Radio facilities
1. Radio Facilities
To help with the task of understanding radio facilities I interviewed Eccles
College’s media technician, Chris Gladwin. I asked him questions related to the
equipment wehave in our radio room such as: What are the mostefficient
programmes to use when recording a live radio show? Arethere any good tips
for how to usethe mixing board? Do you think the way a microphoneis used
during a live show can affect how professionalit sounds? Approximately, how
much do you think all of the equipment costs that we havein the radio room?
If there was something important you could improve on in our radio room,
what would it be? And, what is the broadcastrangeof the radio station (within
College)?
Throughoutthis time, as Chris answered my questions he told me the names of
all the facilities and explained whatthey did or what their purposewas.
The facilities are:
- S Radio Octomix Compact with Touch Screen; which is a portable unit which
comes with an 8 channel mixer and USB audio interface
- S Radio SoftwareModules ; which is a live module for
broadcasting, scheduling module for compiling shows,
production module for importing and organizing media
- DAW Reaper and Audacity; which are the programmes
we useto put our work together and edit it
2. - Microphones - AV JEFE STM9 (Presenter Mic), Rode nt2000 (GuestMic) ;
which are used when we record our own radio shows, TV ads, etc.
- Behringer 4 Channel Headphone Amplifier x 4 (Headphones);
this simply transmits the sound fromthe computer to our
headphones
- Streaming Software(PlanetEStream);
this is whatwe use to get music from
online onto the computers so we can get
the latest music to add to our work
