2. Who would listen to teen-pop music and
who would read a teen-pop magazine?
⢠Male and Female teenagers between the ages of
11-17 would listen to teen-pop as its often very
upbeat and the lyrics cover subjects that
teenagers can relate to.
⢠Teen-pop magazines are often aimed at teenage
girls aged between 13 and 16. Content in the
magazine is written to inform and entertain the
younger audience and it includes information on
artists that they listen to which is why it would
not appeal to older audiences.

6. Teen-Pop Audience Profile
Name: Samantha Johnson
Age: 15
âI really like teen-pop and it is probably my favourite genre as there
are many artists within this genre that I am interested in listening to,
especially Taylor Swift. I listen to this type of music all the time but
mostly after school and when Iâm doing homework as it relaxes me
and puts me in a happy mood. I find that most of the teen-pop
songs are up-beat and have
relatable and have cheerful lyrics that I enjoy listening to. Taylor Swift is my favourite artist
because she is different to other artists and her songs are original. She also varies her tone
so that some of her songs are slower and more meaningful than others songs that we can
just dance to at partiesâ.
7. Teen-Pop Audience Profile
Name: Angela Brady
Age: 17
âI enjoy listening to pop music as there are so many new songs out
all the time so I can always listen to something new. There are also
so many different pop singers that I like so I can follow there music
and wait for them to produce something new. There are also loads
of concerts available to go and see and many of these are pop
concerts. I donât really have one favourite artist but I mostly listen
to The Script, Jessie J, Jake Bugg and Naughty Boy. I do listen to all the songs in the charts
though and find that I like certain songs from certain artists even if I donât like the artist
very much. I would also read about an artist in a magazine even if they werenât my
favourite and I didnât listen to their songs very muchâ.
8. Teen-Pop Audience Profile
Name: John Mcloone
Age: 16
âTeen-pop is not really my favourite genre but I do listen to it
sometimes. I am into listening to many different artists from a
variety of genres. I do find that many of the teen-pop artists have
appealing qualities and some have very original and unique voices
such as Jessie J but I do not listen to them very often.
Being in a band myself I get to listen to and play many different songs from many different
genres so I have a wider knowledge on recent and up-to-date music. Pop music is one of
the most up-to-date genres as there are so many pop artists out there. I think it is difficult
not to like certain pop songs as we hear them so oftenâ.
9. What have I learned from the
audience profiles?
⢠I have learned that the majority of teen-pop fans are girls
rather than boys. This is sometimes because of the lyrics
and how they are often quite âemotionalâ or very
âmeaningfulâ.
⢠Many of the artists are female e.g. Jessie J, Katy Perry,
Ariana GrandĂŠ. This means that they lyrics are from a
females perspective so boys/men cannot relate to what
they mean for example, if Katy Perry writes a song about a
break up with a boyfriend, many boys would find it hard to
relate.
⢠I now know that girls enjoy the music as it is up-beat and
relaxing and great to listen to when feeling stressed or just
when you are having fun.
