REPORT
GOVERNMENT DEGREE COLLEGE FOR WOMEN

Women Empowerment Cell
Report
Women empowerment cell established in our college to empower girl students to enhance
understanding of issues related to women, to develop, promote and disseminate knowledge about
their role in society. It provides a platform to share their experiences and voices regarding their
status in society and suggests ways to improve and empower themselves.
Aim: Strengthening communities by empowering women and elevating their position in terms of
capacity building.
Objectives:
 To sensitive the students on the need for empowerment of women.
 To help them understand their strengths and potential.
 To conduct seminars, workshops and awareness programs- to impart knowledge of
opportunities and rights.
 To train and empower the girl students.
 To provide advisory, consultancy and counseling services.
 To help them to identify inherent talents and develop skills.
Constitution of the committee
Every year in consultation with faculty members the Head of the Institution constitutes Women
Empowerment Cell to plan and execute women awareness activities.
Given below is the committee constituted for the year 2015-16

Initiatives:-
 The committee plans and executes several initiatives for the benefit of the students.
 Women empowerment cell is very actively working in the college aiming at Intellectual
and social upliftment of female students. The cell stands for facilitating women’s
empowerment through seminars, awareness programs and providing advisory and
counseling services.
 Conducted certificate course in Tailoring Trade in collaboration with Women and Child
Welfare Agency - Govt. of A.P. in 2013 for, 52 days and trained 30 students. Two
students were provided with sewing machines by Women and Child Welfare Department.
 Dr.Ch.Nagamani was awarded with state second best Women Empowerment Cell
Coordinator for her enlightening services, at Youth Festival by CCE, Hyderabad.

presented by the organizers on
superstitions cultural events, Photo
exhibition too were arranged.
Impact:
Many of the students felt that these programs are highly effective and beneficial to them.
They were made aware of women’s rights, importance of Women Empowerment and these
programs also helped in improving self confidence and building capacities. The evidence was
based on the feedback received from them.

Women Empowerment Cell Report Women empowerment cell established in our college to empower girl students to enhance understanding of issues related to women, to develop, promote and disseminate knowledge about their role in society. It provides a platform to share their experiences and voices regarding their status in society and suggests ways to improve and empower themselves. Aim: Strengthening communities by empowering women and elevating their position in terms of capacity building. Objectives:  To sensitive the students on the need for empowerment of women.  To help them understand their strengths and potential.  To conduct seminars, workshops and awareness programs- to impart knowledge of opportunities and rights.  To train and empower the girl students.  To provide advisory, consultancy and counseling services.  To help them to identify inherent talents and develop skills. Constitution of the committee Every year in consultation with faculty members the Head of the Institution constitutes Women Empowerment Cell to plan and execute women awareness activities. Initiatives:-  The committee plans and executes several initiatives for the benefit of the students.  Women empowerment cell is very actively working in the college aiming at Intellectual and social upliftment of female students. The cell stands for facilitating women’s empowerment through seminars, awareness programs and providing advisory and counseling services.  Conducted certificate course in Tailoring Trade in collaboration with Women and Child Welfare Agency - Govt. of A.P. in 2013 for, 52 days and trained 30 students. Two students were provided with sewing machines by Women and Child Welfare Department.  Dr.Ch.Nagamani was awarded with state second best Women Empowerment Cell Coordinator for her enlightening services, at Youth Festival by CCE, Hyderabad. Niranjan Rao He explained various legal aspects related to human rights. 5 11-01-2013 Atrocities against women preventive measures 1. Justice Niranjan Rao, 2.Sri.Hari Chandra Reddy, Circle Inspector Different legal opportunities were informed to students by guests and the demo was given on self defence. Students were enlightened with various websites related to educational as well as career opportunities 6 04-02-2013 Certificate course in Skill training in Tailoring Trade Sri.A.Dinakar Babu, IAS, District Collector 45 days course in Tailoring and Embroidery were inaugurated.

Hospital Focused on the scientific approach to breastfeeding culture. 9 26-08-2013 Women Equality Day Sri.A.Dinakar Babu, Dist. Collector District collector Sri.A.Dinakar Babu has motivated the stdents by his speech and distributed certificates of Tailoring trade course. 10 10-9-2013 to 13-9-2013 Certificate course on Gender and Human rights ASMITHA Hyderabad based NGO Conducted 4 days certificate course on Gender and Human rights by ASMITHA. 11 25-11-2013 Violence against women Smt. Kalyani, Principal WEC organized a program on violence against women and resource person discussed about violence against women, consequences of discrimination against women. 12 21-01-2014 Legal Awareness Programme Smt. Kanaka Durga, Senior civil judge, Dist. Court. WEC and legal Awareness Services Authority has organised an awareness programme on legal aspects relating to women. 13 24-01-2014 National Girl Child day Smt. Shobha, DEO WEC and students union of the college in coordination with Jana Vignana Vedika which is affiliated to All India People's science network arranged an awareness programme 14 14.07.2014 to 17.07.2014 Certificate course in gender & human rights ASMITA Resource Center, Hyderabad In Collaboration with ARC Hyderabad 4 days certificate course was conducted. A team of 6 resource persons enlightened through PPT & documentaries, various aspects like domestic violence, child marriages, RTI, Discrimination Dalits, Adivasis, HIV AIDS affected people. 15 01.08.2014 to 07.08.2014 Awareness program on the culture of Breast Feeding. Smt. K Laxmi, ICDS Supervisor. Smt. K Laxmi emphasized, the need of giving priority to natural and child care, explained breast feeding culture and brief account of the historic importance of the event.
  • 5. 16 05.08.2014 Awareness Program on Anti- Ragging Smt. Kanakadurga, Sr.Civil Judge& Security, Sri. Rama Rao, Advocate, member dist Legal service authority, Mr. K. Venu, Advocate, State CADCO vice chairman & member dist. anti raging committee, Ms. Umadevi, Manager- Andhra Bank The spokes persons spoke about Anti- Ragging Act, Causes, and Methods of ragging, prevention, prohibition & punishment under the act and real life examples discussed. And also discussed various matrimonial issues, RTI Act, Domestic violence Act, Free Legal Aids. 17 22.08.2014 Awareness on RTI Sri Yadaiah, member in Mundadugu- Eenadu Resource person provided detailed information about RTI- uses, procedure for application to RTI etc. 18 05.02.2015 Sexual Harassment on Women remedial measures Smt. Sumati, IPS, SP Medak Dist. Resource person enlightened about women’s problems especially sexual harassment and protection from the police department, information about help line centers, “She” protection teams, department face book account etc. She instilled courage to face any kind of situation. Students of our college and surrounding junior colleges, schools attended the program. 19 06.07.2015 Movement Against Trafficking (MAT) Sri. Venkataiah, Program Coordinator, Miss. Reshma, Field assistant from Prajwala NGO, Hyderabad Presented documentaries, short films and spoke about the ways and means of trafficking women and children, how they are exploited. 20 05.08.2015 Breast feeding week K. Laxmi, UNICEF member Resource person explained the importance and advantages of the breast feeding. 21 10.09.2015 The power of Women - An awareness and motivational program Ms. Vani Prasad - Commissioner of Collegiate Education, Smt. Shailaja, Advocate and CPDC member, D. Sathyam, JVV president. The resource person spoke about the importance of women empowerment, need to bring out the inherent talents, role of women, role models etc. eliminating myths and misconceptions of superstitions etc. Demo was presented by the organizers on superstitions cultural events, Photo exhibition too were arranged.
  • 6. Impact: Many of the students felt that these programs are highly effective and beneficial to them. They were made aware of women’s rights, importance of Women Empowerment and these programs also helped in improving self confidence and building capacities.
