Question 6 evaluation
1. Question 6
What have you learnt about
technologies from the process of
constructing this product?
2. Blogging
When writing up the information we found from filming, planning and research and the
preliminary task we decided to use blogger as it is a popular and well-known blogging site.
It gave us the chance to list sections in our piece and put different information under
different titles. By doing this we were able to organise and structure the our work
effectively and easily. Another advantage of posting on blogger was that it meant our work
was online and our teacher and my friend that I worked with on the piece could access the
work at anytime with ease. As a result things were more efficient and work could be done a
lot more easily than if we had to email every time.
Although, we found that blogger did have some downfalls. When inserting pictures and
embedding codes into the blog it could sometimes cause blogger to crash or react badly
resulting in a more time consuming process in which had a negative impact on the group as
it meant there was more pressure and less time. Blogger was also quite unreliable,
sometimes when something would be written in a certain font in a certain size the next
time we accessed it it would be totally different and would not let us change it back which
could be frustrating for us. To overcome this we decided that we would try to insert our
work onto the blog and try to pay little attention to the smaller details. I wrote my
evaluation on powerpoint and inserted it as it was easier to do so and meant I did not have
to worry about the technical issues.
3. Mobile phones
Using mobile phones was a huge advantage to us when creating our piece. Not only
did we use it to communicate within in the group but we used it within our final piece
as a prop. Using a mobile phone meant we could call eachother at any time and have
easy access to information – it was a lot easier than emailing or texting and it resulted
in the piece being developed a lot more quickly because it was easier. By using our
phones we could also access information online at any time, anywhere. It’s a portable
device that has 4G so meant we could look up things online at any time we needed
which was extremely useful for us to overcome any issues we faced when working
from home on our blogs or filming.
The mobile phone in the piece meant we could use the ambient sound rather than
foley sound which enhanced our piece and helped keep its verisimilitude.
4. Editing
When editing the piece we used Adobe Premier Pro which allowed us to import all of
our shots and edit them within the software which made it a lot easier. It was a simple
and easy application to use which meant that we could edit with ease and simplicity.
To increase the effect of our piece we used some of the tools within the software such
as: increasing the time of the shot/slow motion, cutting (razor tool) and sound booth.
The only downfall that I felt there was to this app was that when importing the videos
we had to ensure that all the images and shots were from the same source/folder
otherwise they would not play within the film and would instead just show a black
screen. This could sometimes be inconvenient as it meant that we had to transfer all
the files to one folder before being able to actually edit them within Adobe Premiere
Pro.
5. Survey Monkey
Survey Monkey was used within our research and production to enable us to do some
target audience research. We put it online and posted them on our personal social
media sites to find information about the possible target audience we should aim our
piece at. By doing this we could understand and research further into what features
we should include to appeal to our target audience and make it as alluring as possible.
By using this we were able to reach a large audience quickly and efficiently and it
saved us time in the future when creating our piece as we knew exactly who we
needed to appeal to. I feel that there were no downfalls to survey monkey and overall
it was an extremely useful webpage.
6. Camera
For location one we used the camera as this is the tool that our school provided for us.
It had good quality but did not capture sound as well as we would have hoped. The
camera fitted on a tripod, therefore this allowed us to capture shots with a steady film
and keep it stable. The camera was bulky and large which restricted us being able to
carry it around when filming and getting physical shots.
In location two of the filming we used the mobile phones as we felt they offered just
as good quality but the sound was a lot better. It was also a lot smaller so therefore
meant we could shoot the physical and movement shots with ease and it allowed us
to import them a lot quicker than when using the camera.
Both of the filming devices had their positives and negatives but by using both of
them collaboratively meant we could produce the best possible outcome.
7. Prezi
I used Prezi to display my ideas within the planning and research section. It meant I
had to develop my creative and technology skills to be able to produce an attractive
and informative piece of work that gave me and the reader of my blog a visual of the
possible ideas for my final opening sequence.
The site was extremely useful as it was easy to use and allowed me to create a visually
appealing piece of work to use within my blog but sometimes the templates that were
offered on the site were pretty basic and were all very similar to each other which
limited my creativity.
8. Overall I feel as if the technologies I have used form the process have been extremely useful.
By using a range of them collaboratively meant that I could create, research and plan for my
opening sequence successfully and efficiently.
The only downfall that I feel that has had an impact on my work is blogger, the site was
extremely difficult to use at times and rarely cooperated when trying to manipulate it to
adapt to my work. It made it very time consuming at times and could become very
frustrating when trying to work on it. Although, as a summary I feel that the work I have
achieved with the technologies I was given was produced to the best of my ability and could
not of been done if I did not have the diverse choice of technologies around me.
