2. Dark lighting/Shadows- This is very useful for
showing a sense of suspense and danger.
Slow paced editing and fast paced editing –
This depends on what is happening in the
scene, for example where tension is building
up long shots tend to be used.
Damsel in distress- A lot of the time the main
female character is the one in danger and needs
saving.
3. When doing research we particularly found
scenes with low lighting quite good as it
showed a sense of danger and mystery, such as
this scene from American Psycho (left). We
tried to use this in our film when ‘Kieran’ was
on the phone, to emphasise that something was
about to happen.
4. As we only did an opening to our thriller film
not much action is included. However, we have
aimed to build up suspense and tension for the
film. For this reason, we tended to use quite
long shots in our film. This is shown below.
5. In the majority of films, thrillers especially,
have the convention of the male being the
danger, or the villain, and the female being the
target. In our film we wanted to challenge this
convention because our preferred reading for
our media product is that this could happen to
anyone, not just females. So we made the target
of the cyber-stalking the main character,
Kieran. Lauren is the so-called villain in this
and she stalks Kieran.
