2. The genre for the music video
• The alternative genre will attract people who will obviously listen to the
music and will be both genders and the age boundary could be early
teenagers to young adults (15-24)
• This is because the alternative genre is for a more mature audience and
wouldn’t be suitable for a younger generation as the lyrics and the music
video generally focuses on more mature issues and life experiences.
3. The genres affect on the target audience
• As with any trend the target audience of the alternative music
genre will follow trends that are inspired off the alternative
bands that they will listen to their music and /or go to the
concerts.
• This could reflect on the dress sense on the audience as they
will most likely follow the dress sense of the alternative bands
which will be formal attire. As the audience will get inspiration
off their idols who are the band members.
4. The Social demographics
• The social demographics of the target audience is that they would usually
be within the category of C1,C2 and D this is usually considered to be the
norm category as most of the population fall within these three
categories.
• This also reflects on the genre that I have chosen as it is the alternative
genre so it hasn’t gained the high amount of popularity as a whole. As
others have for example the pop genre has gained a large amount of
popularity over the years and is now recognised as one of the main types
of music genre. As with the alternative genre it doesn’t share the
characteristics that pop music shares so it will not have the renown that
pop has so not many people will have much knowledge about it. It will
only be the younger generations that will know about it who will
statistically be within the social demographics echelons of C1,C2 and D.
5. Media Grouping
• The fans of the alternative music genre will not follow conventional media
conventions as it is a unique category of music that doesn’t follow a set
path so the TV channels and radio stations that the target audience listens
to could be quite varied it is an relatively new genre in the music industry.
• However examples of alternative music artists are as follows:
• 30 Seconds To Mars
• Depeche Mode
• Fall out Boy
• Nine Inch Nails
• Unkle
• Nirvana
6. Style
• The style of the alternative music genre is quite dark and could be
confused with rock or metal genres of music how ever it is of a more
realistic genre as it focuses on important and real life issues that the
audience can relate to and might have experienced themselves.
• For example a video titled “The Kill” by 30 Seconds To Mars the story
behind it is that the band are in a abandoned hotel and each band
member goes through a process in which they are questioning their sanity
as each one begins to see things that are not there. These experiences are
bred out of boredom and isolation in the environment.
• Some people could relate to this as they themselves might have felt
isolated in the world and can find a common ground with the real life
issues that the alternative genre creates, another example of a real issue
that the audience can relate to is bullying.
