Rustaveli State University
dates back to 1935.
Initially it was founded as
the Pedagogical Institute
which had trained many
teachers for all over the
Western Georgia
throughout its history.

BSU used to be the classical type of the University until 2006;
In 2006 several research and educational institutions joined BSU
following the high educational system reforming;
The institutions had carried out applied research and trained
personnel in engineering, technologies, agrarian sector and etc.;

BSU offers wide range of options to students
at all the three stages of education: there are
about 42 vocational, 43 Bachelor’s, 23
Master’s, 9 doctoral and 2 single-level
programs.
At present about 6000 students study at the
University.
The staff consists of 245 professors, 67
researchers, over 300 part time staff.

Briefly on the Department of Mathematics:
-The department counts its history from the
very first day of the foundation of the
university;
-It carries quite a wide scale research: Algebra,
Mathematical and Functional Analysis,
Topology, Geometry, Theory of Probability
and others;
-15 professors working;
-5 contracted staff ;

9. Geographical location of the
University
The University is housed in four campuses
located in Batumi and outskirts of it. The
university has also two scientific centers in the
outskirts of Batumi and in Kobuteli;

Batumi is a seaside town along the Black Sea coast.
Batumi is the capital of Ajara Autonomous Republic in
southwest Georgia. Sometimes the town is considered to
be Georgia's second capital, with the population of about
125 000. Batumi serves as an important port and a
commercial center.
It is situated in a
subtropical zone, rich in
agricultural produce such
as citrus, fruit and tea.
Most of its economy
revolves around tourism.
