1. The fundamentals of university training were set up in Eskisehir in 1958 under the name of “Eskisehir Economic and
Administrative Sciences Academia” which is the basis of the Eskisehir Osmangazi University. In 1982 Faculty of Medicine
and Faculty of Engineering were joint under a new name “Anadolu University”. Eskisehir Osmangazi University gained the
status of an independent state university from the body of Anadolu University and has begun to run as a new institution by
the law enacted 496 on 18th August 1993.
•Faculty of Medicine,
•Faculty of Engineering and Architecture,
•Faculty of Science and Letters
were established within this new formation.

2. These faculties have a history of nearly 32 years.
Furthermore, with the rule of foundation, two vocational
schools and three institutions are turned over to our university;
and it is foreseen to open up the Faculty of Economic and
Administrative Science.
After the foundation,
• Faculty of Agriculture,
• Faculty of Theology, Faculty of Education,
• Graduate School of Social Sciences,
• Sivrihisar Vocational School, Eskisehir,
• Medical Services Vocational School
are also added to its constitution. There are also six research
centers running today.

3. Currently there are over 40 undergraduate
programs in seven faculties named above of
Eskisehir Osmangazi University. The University is
employing a total of 1500 faculty staff, 1300
administrative staff and offering education to a
total of 35.000 students at undergraduate and
graduate levels.

4. Department of Civil Engineering
Department of civil engineering was established in 1970. Since then undergraduate programs for the bachelor degrees
and graduate programs for the degrees of Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy in the specializations of Structural,
Geotechnical, Hydraulics and Transportation Engineering are offered. Major laboratory facilities, appropriate to those
areas, are available to carry out research at a state-of-the-art level.
Eskisehir Osmangazi University
5. • Department of Civil Engineering provides for the inculcation of state-of-the-art knowledge
in applied science and technology and aim at the creation of new and original information
in all civil engineering disciplines. Specific attention is paid to national and regional
research needs. The activities of the department are divided into the following main
branches of specialization:
• Structural Division,
• Geotechnical Division,
• Transportation Division,
• Hydraulics Division.

6. The main activities are in the fields of building technology, concrete
research, geotechnology and earthquake engineering In most of these
fields, the activities are: materials testing, quality control, applied research
and consulting.
Department of civil engineering have approximately 1500 undergraduate
students, 60 graduate students, and 26 full time faculty members. The
curriculum is designed such that the first two years is filled with the
science underlying the practice of engineering, especially mathematics,
physics, and chemistry. In addition, students take initial engineering
courses in mechanics, surveying, and computer programming. In the third
year, students take engineering courses in each of the subdisciplines.
This provides breadth to the education, and also allows the student to
gain a better understanding of what areas are of particular interest to him
or her. In the fourth year, students have the opportunity to take more
advanced courses in areas of most interest to them.

7. Geotechnical division is dedicated to teaching,
research, and professional service, consistent with the
role of a major research university. There are two sub
laboratory facilities regarding classical soil mechanics
and soil dynamic problems.

8. There are several projects being undertaken by our
geotechnical division funded by the university research fund,
scientific and technological research council of Turkey and
State Planning Organization.
Some of the projects are as follows:
• Problems of swelling soil for light engineering structures and
design construction measures for Şanliurfa-Harran clays
• Use of dispersive clays in embankment dams and
investigation on the criteria of design and construction
measures
• Geotechnical properties of Eskişehir Meselik clays
• Evaluation of dynamic soil properties of Meselik clays
• Dynamic nonlinear analysis of soil structure of Eskişehir
