John Harrison: Legends and Legacies
The legends and legacies of our world have shaped society and have impacted our daily lives and will continue to for centuries. John Harrison is one
of many legends and legacies that has shaped our lives. John Harrison changed and developed technology in an enormous way that saved numerous
lives and still affects how we live and travel today. John Harrison's developments in technology of time keeping and longitude and latitude coordinates
created the legacy that he improved society for which he will be remembered forever.
John Harrison was born March 24th, 1693 in Foluby, Yorkshire. He was the oldest child of a carpenter and a joiner. John Harrison had little formal
education but was a clock maker and the son of a carpenter. He married his first wife Elizabeth, in 1718. She died eight years later and he remarried to

Even though John Harrison did not have the advantages of a formal education so he used his knowledge from his father about clocks to his
advantage. John Harrison's knowledge from his father led him to create the chronometers that led many people on many safe journeys. John
Harrison's son William followed in his father's footsteps also by helping him in creating the chronometer. John Harrison had a huge impact on society
especially for fixing "The Longitude Problem" which still has effects society today and we wouldn't be able to travel through space. Before John
Harrison created the chronometer it was thought that you could only tell longitude by looking at astronomy, but the problem was if you were sailing
on a stormy night that you cannot see the stars and you would get lost. IN fact, it was John Harrison's arch nemesis's theory that you could tell
longitude by looking at astronomy which John Harrison proved to be false. John Harrison discovered the chronometer that contradicted this

Richmond High School: A Short Story
t was like any normal day at Richmond high school. Everyone was walking to or from class, getting in their lockers, or using the restroom. As
everyone got to their class the bell rang and the teachers shut the doors. I was sitting in my first–hour waiting watching the clock tick slowly. I had
already finished my work so I was just sitting quietly staring at the clock. The bell rang as we all went to our lockers, then our next class. In the second
hour my phone went off while I was trying to listen to music, my friend messaged me but I ignored it. While sitting in the second hour I accidentally
fell asleep while waiting for the teacher to tell everyone it was time

History of Time Telling Machines
The Tick in the Clock New technology often begins with the clear intention of solving an ongoing problem or satisfying a societal need. Many
times, this new piece of technology is simple, such as the toothpick. Other times, a new technology can be a thing of great complexity, such as a
computer hard drive or Facebook. One piece of technology in particular has changed the way human society has functioned over the past few
centuries. Everyone strives to keep track of time, as more and more technologies arise and give way to an increased demand for a structured day. In
order to do this, one looks up at a clock.
The clock, to put it simply, is a device used to tell the hours, minutes, and seconds of a day. According to Artemidorus of Daldis, a second century A.D.
writer, "A clock signifies occupations and undertakings, movements and the start of transactions. For men keep their eyes on the time in all that they
do," (Dohrn–van Rossum 17). Not only does a clock keep track of time, it signifies the need for the human race to organize and control their
surroundings, as it has been from the first encounter between technology and the human race.
The technology of a clock is simple yet varied. The clock's shell is usually made out of brass, copper, tin or zinc. After the shell is molded the
components of the clock are assembled; significant working parts including the face, arms, power source, gear train, escapement, wheels, mainspring,
pendulum and quartz are all

Smiley Face In Watchmen
The smiley face in the comic book Watchmen is the most recognized image, which is iconic throughout the entire storyline, especially in the
beginning and at the end of the story. The smiley face has a blood stain spattered from its center to the upper left which is interpreted as a clock's
minute hand that points at twelve minutes to the hour which is in particularly implied to have a connection with the Doomsday Clock. According to
this, the few minutes left are interpreted to be representing how the "catastrophic destruction of the world is very close." The smiley faces being a
representation of innocence and how everything appears to be very well but have been tainted by the blood stain. This is also seen in the badge of the
comedian which... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This clearly shows how the smiley face has been used in the comic work. It reflects, the character, The Comedian, who is described to be ruthless
and very cynical. The symbolism here is very profound and well illustrated all to support the major theme of the book as it is developed by the
characters like The Comedian who are involved in various scenes as superheroes of the society. Throughout his role, The Comedian reflects a
character with deeper insights as part of the heroes who are costumed in the society. The symbol, smiley, is used in a religious poster featuring Buddha
(V.7–22). A yellow sun is seen behind him and the sun is spattered with blood in the same position as the blood stained badge. The stain of blood
also covers the left eye of Buddha just as it does on the smiley face. In the comic, Mrs. Hirsch's is the mother of two children who were killed by their
father and later on is questioned by police office. Definitely, the symbolism here portrays Buddha as part of the society, and the innocent faces that are
stained with crimes and other injustices within the

Parallels Between "Mrs Dalloway" and "The Hours"
The ongoing relationship between the literary movements of modernism and post–modernism is encompassed by the intertextual relationships between
Stephen Daldry's "The Hours" and Virginia Woolf's "Mrs Dalloway". These relationships communicate the inadequacy of previous writings to convey
trauma, cultural crisis and the deep fragmentation within their respective societies. The immediate context of these social dialogues creates a clear
division between each text, however the intertextual similarities between minor and major characters create an effective parallel to traverse decades,
years, months and days. This is in order to assess the lasting impacts of society on an individual's desire to escape either physically or metaphorically....

" The coffee was very slow ... until Mr Whitbread had finished ... Hugh was so very slow" the agonising sense of immediacy both draws our attention
back to clock time whilst allowing us to delve into Clarissa's past as she recalls that Hugh is always so absurdly slow. As reality is blurred in
psychological time, external time punctuates the novel "There! Out it boomed. First a warning, musical, then the hour, irrevocable" this reminds the
reader that this story is in fact occurring in a single day and every event experienced outside of this timeframe is a figment of a characters memory.
Woolf makes these memories the focus of the novel rather than external time to create a mobile reality where she fabricates the sense of movement
by traversing time through the consciousness of her characters. These memories therefore are from a specific point of view and therefore exclude
some properties of the remembered moment and parts of said reality may simply be "dissolved in the air" as the memory fades with ongoing time.
Daldry approaches Woolf's tunnelling technique with sensitivity and subtlety in order to unify Virginia, Laura and Clarissa. The repetitive musical
score by Philip Glass creates a sense of the cyclical nature of time and is evocative of the relentlessness of time. This too creates an illusion of both
time and timelessness as the regular rhythm simulates that of a clock as

Relationship Between Marketing And Customer Value
INTRODUCTION
This paper aims to explain the relationship between marketing and customer value and their relevance when promoting and ensuring customer
satisfaction. It will discuss marketing as a business philosophy and its importance in organisations. The concept of customer value will also be
examined and its significance to the success of a product. Throughout the paper, the Apple Watch will be drawn on to further explore the concepts and
to put them into context.
Marketing has been defined in a number of ways. Kotler (1983,p.7) defined marketing as a "human activity directed at satisfying needs and wants
through exchange processes." He felt this encapsulated the fundamentals of marketing and went on to present the basic concepts of needs, a state of
felt deprivation, that are plentiful and complex, they include basics such as food or clothing, wants which he described as an "expression of human
needs, shaped by a person's culture or individual development" (Kotler, 1972, p. 8), demands, wants that are backed by buyer power, exchanges, "the
act of obtaining a desired object from someone by offering something in return." (Kotler, 1972, p. 10), an exchange can also occur between a person
and a television program (Bagozzi, 1975) and transactions, a trade of values between any two parties. The main aim of Kotler's definition was to
highlight the importance of customer satisfaction, and the significance of needs and wants.
Businesses need marketing in order to reach

Persuasive Essay: Why School Should Start Later
Have you ever woken up in the morning to get ready for school but have the urge to go straight to bed again? Well, you're not alone. Here's how it
all starts. The alarm rings and you lay in bed hoping it's just a part of your dream. When you realize it's not, you are forced to move and have to
turn the horrible sound off. There are two ways you could go from here. You could either "close your eyes for a bit", but actually end up sleeping in.
Or you could get up and have to face a long school day that comes with negative outcomes. Students are always sleepy, unfocused, and have an
unbalanced time schedule when they have to wake up early in the morning, therefore school should start later. First of all, if school were to start later,

Essay On Swatch
Swatch is a watch brand that was created in the late 1970s. It has a strong identity which separates it's from many other watch brands such as rolex,
ice, dolce and gabbana. For example rolex is a brand that is known to be expensive and valuable. Ice are known for plastic watches which have
exciting colours and are bold. Swatch watches are also made out of plastic and is marketed to fit anyone of any age. As a company Swatch has had a
huge connection with the pop culture industry. You may have recognised the brightly coloured watches that reminds you of pop art. Things like that is

Swatch was also founded 33 years ago in 1983 by Nicolas Hayek and the headquarters base was in Biel, Switzerland. Looking back at the history of
Swatch the company didn't succeed in the 1970s. Hitting the 80s it made a break through by remodelling the company then only had to compete with
50 components.
The general watches are usually silver or gold and quite bold. Hakey's designs were more phenomenal and colourful. They inspired people to be
themselves as the Swatch watch today is commonly known to be bright with a funky unique design on the strap.
The Swatch logo incorporates the swiss flag which signifies the country of the watchmaker. There are three main colours to the Swatch logo which are
black, red and white. Those three colours are often seen as something important which should get your attention in a way it shows it's dominance,
excellence and powerful reputation. By studying the logo it incorporates a custom typeface which is simple and bold. The logo is powerful enough

A Brief Note On The Assembly Operator
Chapter 15
15.4) Starving is defined as the situation where the assembly operator has finished the assigned work on the give work unit time load but they didn't
receive the next unit at the station. Workers are forced to the situation of starving. Blocking is defined as the work completed at the assignedtime limit
but cannot be passed to the downstream station because of the reason that the worker is not ready to receive the unit. In that case, worker is blocked
from working.
15.7) In production line terminology, line efficiency means when the time of downtime of the line is averaged in, the proportion time limit on the
production line. It is basically the ration of theoretical cycle time to actual production time.
15.9) Service time Ts is defined as the actual amount of period available for work at the station to complete the assigned task and the cycle time Tc is
defined as the periodic time interval between the arrival of work load at the station. The difference between the both is the repositioning time, Tr.
Mathematically it can be defined as the Ts= Tc– Tr.
15.11) Precedence constraint is the restriction on the purchase where the work elements are performed. There are few elements that must be completed
before others. For instance, a threaded hole must be drilled before it is tapped.
15.12) Balance efficiency is defined as the work content time limit is portioned into the total possible service time limit on the specific line.

Technology : The Positive Influence Of Technology In Our Life
When it comes to technology, I feel that it is used quite a lot in our lives. Whether it be listening to the radio or using our cell phones to
communicate with others. Technology has helped us in many ways which made it part of our daily routine. When I start of my day, I use my phone's
alarm clock to wake myself up. Once I am up, i grab my ipad and play some video on youtube. The video is usually like some type of podcast just to
listen to while i get ready. Then i sometimes eat breakfast while still listening to the podcast. After eating breakfast, it's about that time to go to
school. Before i leave, i make sure i have my phone because without it, I feel like i lose connection to the "world". As i drive to school, i listen to my
spotify music. Once i get to school, i usually don't use much of my phone. I occasionally check the time and to see if i got any texts. Other than that, I
am paying attention and taking notes. By the time my classes end, I head to my car but while doing so, i check some of my social media accounts.
The social media accounts i use the most are instagram and snapchat. I realized that i only check it while i walk because i feel that the walk to my car
seems quicker. Once i get home, i make sure to feed my dogs and either make something to eat or eat something i bought. While doing so, i watch
youtube videos of the people im subscribed to. So far, throughout the morning and afternoon, I realized i use technology quite a lot. It just increases

Calia Brown-Personal Narrative
By: Calia Brown
"All you gotta do is open yo legs!" Said the boy I had only seen a couple of times around school before. I felt like my life was flashing before my eyes.
I was hoping for this moment to end. The smell of weed and cigs filled the air. It was a beautiful day outside and yet all I could hear was cars and
buses rushing by. This is how I knew no one would hear my cry for help.
Beep Beep Beep!!! Goes my alarm. It was time for school. Stuck in my bed not wanting to move from this warm comfortable spot, I started digging
at the crust in the corners of my eyes. The smell of bacon filled the air in my room pushing me out of the bed and leading me to the hallway. I head to
the kitchen where I find my mother ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My friends were cracking up because they knew these females loved to talk but we were always about action. We all knew what was going to take
place after school without even saying it. It was now time for us to split up and go to our next class. We would see each other later in the day at lunch
so this wasn't a big deal. As I head down the hallway and make my way to the second floor I hear a loud Yo! coming from the opposite end of the
hallway. By this time I was thinking the hallway was empty because I was a minute late for class just because I took the long way there. I turned
around to see who was making the noise. It was one of the boys that wasn't even supposed to be on our floor. He was a junior and I was a freshman so
we were always separated by floors. I kept walking because my name wasn't yo so he couldn't have been talking to me. He ran up behind me and
grabbed me by my waist. I resisted and turned to him and said; "Why are you touching me Tank?" He stared at me and started laughing. I looked at
him and said; "What's funny?'' He said in his deep raspy voice , "You acting like I can't touch you." I said to him "You can't I don't know you like that
for you to be touching on me and grabbing me." I turned away from him and continued on my way to class. Half way down the hallway I see a group

The Atomic Bombs Released On The Doomsday Clock

Seconds to Midnight on the Doomsday Clock
The Atomic bombs released on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan by an American B–29 bomber, the Enola Gay, brought WWII to a significant end.
During WWII, the United States and Soviet Union served as allies against the Axis Powers. Though this wasn't the only alliance standing against Japan,
Italy, Hungary, Romania, and Bulgaria; The United States' and USSR's relationship at this point in history was controversial because the two nations
never completely trusted each other although fighting common enemies. According to historian Gar Alperovitz, "The bomb made it possible for the
United States to do whatever it wanted to Europe because we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
"My clothes were burnt and so was my skin. I was in rags. I had braided my hair, but now it was like a lion's mane. There were people, barely
breathing, trying to push their intestines back in. People with their legs wrenched off. Without heads. Or with faces burned and swollen out of
shape. The scene I saw was a living hell." (Michiko 385). A civilian who was exposed to the atomic bomb, Yamamoka Michiko, reflects on the scene
she so devastatingly was a part of the day the bomb was dropped. Her description of the cities ruins gives us an idea of just how brutal and horrific the
nuclear weapon turned to be. Not only did the United States privately construct such a ruthless weapon, but also used the Atomic Bomb as an
unfortunate way to instantaneously end WWII. The United States' decision to bomb Japan was seen as directed against the Soviet Union because
during this time, Stalin had moved troops to the far East in order to enter war with Japan to secure and strengthen a soviet strategic position for
combat. The bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki is seen as an unnecessary war crime because allied nations were making moves to prepare to defeat
Japan. Though nations such as the Soviet Union worked vigorously to defeat Japan, the United States wanted to end the war quickly while letting other
nations know the they were in charge due to their possession of the world's first nuclear weapon. The aftermath of WWII left many nations in a

Salvador Dali’s The Persistence of Memory Essay
Way more than time just melting away
This paper will take a look at Salvador Dali's painting, The Persistence of Memory, painted in 1931. As the viewer can tell, this is a story of time and
life. The memories start in the background where all is well and things are straight and calm. Moving on to the cliff, the observer possibly sees a
well–behaved teenager. There is nothing horrible here that leads the spectator to gasp, and the viewer knows this person made it through that time in
their life. Then the picture moves on to the age of about twenty, the memories are fond but in the distant past. The memories are protected by a white
blanket so that they do not just fall into the background. Then something happened where the person had some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The next item that the eye is drawn to is the fly, resting on this clock. Although this clock seems to be melting like the others in the picture, the fly
plays an important part in this painting. Being the painting is named, The Persistence of Memory, the fly leads the onlooker to think these memories
might not be as old as the rest. Flies are drawn to items that are rotting but still have some nutritional value; this clock is fresh enough to have more
value than the other clocks around it, giving the spectator the thought that maybe while the clock is a memory, it is not distant and is still brought to
the frontal lobe now and then to be revisited. After looking beyond the focal point, to the left of that clock and even a little bit closer is a pocket watch.
This watch is in a contrasting orange color. This is the only orange used in the painting. The placing of the pocket watch is strategic, as it too is on
the shelf with the most recent memory, but the line and angle of the shelf automatically pulls your eye to it. The pocket watch is closed and highly
decorated with black. Although, the viewer cannot make out what the clock is decorated in, it seems to convey that this clock is very important to the
scene. The onlooker might even see this as a memory that has not been opened yet. Something grand will take place in this time line portrayed by this
painting. Oddly as this is, the eye begins to then follow

An Analysis Of Cold As Heaven By Judith Ortiz Cofer
"Cold as Heaven"Judith Ortiz Cofer's poem "Cold as Heaven" is a very sweet interaction between a granddaughter and her dying grandmother. The
granddaughter is the narrator. After reading the poem, I believe the meaning of the poem is that the cold is something that the grandmother never
experienced, and the cold refers to heaven. The grandmother has not yet experienced heaven and she is curious. In lines 25–30: "When her eyes return
to me, I can see she's waiting to hear more about the purifying nature of ice, how snow makes way for a body, how you can make yourself an angel
by just lying down and waving your arms" (Cofer). These lines describe winter as a place where angels are made. It mentions that even when the snow
touches you, it is a feeling of purification. This symbolizes that heaven is a place filled with angels that purify you.
The poem consists of many different uses of figurative language in order to connect snow to death. Cofer included the use of similes to allow the
readers to make a connection to what she was saying, so that they could grasp a better understanding. An example of a simile can be found in lines
6–7: "the Caribbean sun winds up the world like an old alarm clock" (Cofer). The author is comparing two unlike things, the sun and an alarm clock,
however they have a similar connection. The Caribbean sun is what wakes the world, just like an alarm clock does. The use of this simile adds to the
poem's meaning because it describes the life that the grandmother lives and that is warmth in her home in the Caribbean.
There is a lot of imagery included in the poem. Throughout the poem I was able to visualize what the author descriptively shared. The poem includes
descriptions of where the grandmother lives in the Caribbean, where the granddaughter lives with the winter weather, and how heaven looks through
the eyes of the granddaughter's comparison to winter. As I read through the poem several time, I looked for some mention of Christianity. I found it in
lines 1–2: "Before there is a breeze again before the cooling days of Lent, she may be gone" (Cofer). Obviously, it is a Christian belief that when you
die you will go to heaven. I wondered how long grandma

The question is if reading all of these short snippets of information is nearly as valuable to us as reading whole texts was to us in the past.
The internet that so many of us have come to depend on is a vast trove of information that is readily available to all of us. Having access to all of
that information is an amazing thing but we should also consider what we may be loosing because of the way that we consume that information. Is

What Does Rain Mean To Me
The song begins with multiple clocks chiming. The chimes were incorporated into the song to act as a wake up call, some people can take the song
acting as something like an alarm. The alarms would signify that there is no time to waste, it is time to get up and be productive or it is time for
happiness and success. It means that time is ticking away. In the first stanza of the lyrics it quotes, "Ticking away the moments that make up a dull
day, fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way. Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town, waiting for someone or something to
show you the way." In this stanza the writer means that days can be wasted by not living life to the fullest. It is easy to let life slip away not doing

writer is symbolizing that when people are young they have all the time in the word to do whatever they please, but when they do not take action,
they are wasting their life away. Before they know it ten years have passed by and they have not fulfilled any of their dreams or goals. The third
stanza says, " So you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking. Racing around to come up behind you again. The sun is the same in a
relative way but you're older, Shorter of breath and one day closer to death." It implies that with the days passing on poeple keep aging and are

Descriptive Essay On My Thursday Morning
The clock glares off the white tile floor, my blushed face matches the bright lettering on the clock. Collected dust and dirt from the students shoes has
now ended up all along of the back of my pants. What a great way to start off my thursday morning. Beep, beep, beep, sounded my alarm, 7:05 glared
across the screen of my fluorescent alarm clock into my squinted eyes in the barely lit room. My legs quickly jolted out of my bed, I was late again,
I was supposed to be in the car by 7:25, of course since I was already running very late, it was also the type of morning when I had nothing prepared.
I had no idea what to wear, and hadn't packed my lunch or backpack, but at this point i had only been awake for around 5 minutes, so I wasn't

How Does Time Regulate Our Daily Lives?
We use time to regulate our daily lives. We look at our watches, moreover, our phones now to deduce our actions timely. Well, those clocks on phones
are controlled by the atomic clock administered by the National Institute Standards and Technology, NIST. Before mechanical clocks were invented,
using "celestial bodies and sundials" were the accepted forms of timekeeping (Catwright). After the suggestion of a possible creation of a clock by
physicist Isidor Rabi using his "resonance method for recording the magnetic properties of atomic nuclei" in 1945, NIST creates the first atomic clock
based on Rabi's method with ammonia molecule later in 1949 (Levine). Through decades of new developments on the atomic clock, we now have our

A physics professor at Columbia university named Isidor Rabi in 1945 indicated a creation of clock using his method called the atomic beam
magnetic resonance established in the 1930s. This was a "resonance method for recording the magnetic properties of atomic nuclei," now applicable to
the "atomic clock...and the laser, as well as the nuclear magnetic resonance imaging used in diagnostic medicine" (Levine). Four years later, NIST
proposes the first atomic clock using ammonia molecules. In 1952, NBS–1 was created that used cesium atoms (NIST). Through decades of new
inventions and refinements in the atomic clocks, we now have a cesium atomic clock of NIST–F2 with an accuracy to one second in 300 million years
(NIST).
The National Institute of Standards and Technology established NIST–F2 in 2014 which is a fountain atomic clock using cesium atoms. After the
announcement of the NIST–F1 atomic clock in 1999 which doesn 't lose or gain a second in 20 million years, NIST–F2 now doesn 't lose or gain a
second in 300 million years improving the accuracy of the atomic clock making it the most accurate clock in the world. The function of the current
atomic clock, NIST–F2, follows the functions of a fountain clock consisting of cooling of the cesium atomic cloud, microwave interaction, and
detection. When an

Discussion on the Success of Hublot Watches
Hublot watches
This paper will discuss the positioning and success of Hublot watches in achieving the luxury watch worldwide. In order to make a good analysis, a lot
of information has been gathered through the official website as well as the advertisement on TV. These information is also combined with the
knowledge of marketing mix and positioning acquired earlier in the course. The main concepts mentioned have been sourced from Brassington F. And
Pettitt S.(2007). Discussion will focus on the usage of the four element of marketing mix–––product, price, place and promotion.
Background
Hublot is a Swiss enterprise founded in 1980 by Maksim Kuts creating ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The target market of Hublot aims to the young entrepreneurs at the age of 25~45. Compared with other luxury watches consumers, those entrepreneurs
are younger, and they prefer the sense of future plans. At the same time, they are the generations of the "Internet". Take the USA and China for
example, most Internet users are 20~40 years old. The are more likely to accept the creative products rather than the historical classic ones, and they are
believed to be influenced by the information on the Internet much easier.
In terms of Internet and media, Beaver created Hublot TV in June, 2006, which becomes the first one to create an online television channel of luxury
brands in history. The television will broadcast all kinds of news of the brand and spread around the world. Furthermore, Hublot also take advantage of
the usage of communication web. Up to now, Hublot have more than 370 thousand fans on Facebook, and keep the rapid growth.
Young entrepreneurs are energetic, dynamic and vigorous. Swisswatch brands have always been keen on sponsor sporting events. Rolex and
Wimbledon have a cooperation up to 42 years, their spokesperson varies from classical musicians to tennis super star. Omega has been the official
timekeeper in the Olympic Games 22 times, and held the quite famous Lake Golf Competition. In this section, Hublot broke the tradition again. In
2005, it began the cooperation with Manchester United and

A few days later, after sealing the letter and hiding in between my mattress and spring box, Alfred told me to pack for an important meeting. I tucked
the letter for Vlad into a small pocket of the suitcase before tossing it into the trunk. The next morning, Alfred woke up earlier than usual and told me
to get ready. I thought he told me the flight was at 11 am., why are we getting ready at five o' clock? I took a quick shower and dressed for the Spring
weather outside, carrying an extra coat for the blistering cold of Russia. I double–checked my room for anything I would need such as a toothbrush or

wasn't until we got inside that I found out just how much the airport has changed. We checked in our luggage and printed out our tickets at this
machine that scanned our passports. We went up an escalator to find our gate, but before we could get to it there was this huge line we had to go
through.
"What the hell is this?" I exclaimed.
"Oh, right, I haven't told you yet. You know how we got attacked by terrorists with our own planes? Well, since then, the government formed the
TSA. They make sure fliers are safe to travel by checking for banned items through a metal detector and a conveyor belt that screens your baggage.
So nowadays we have to get to our flights earlier than usual because of this line." Alfred quickly said. It's amazing what the government can get done
when people die from a terrorist attack rather than a homicide at a public school.
"So how long does this take?" The line looked about a mile long, zig–zagging up to these two guys stationed at

Huygens Accomplishments
While he was not observing the stars, one problem that plagued Huygens throughout his life was that of time. In 1658, he was the first to build a
pendulum clock –– the first great step towards modern timekeeping (Magill et. al.). He published the schematics and his speculations about future
improvements in his Horologium in 1658. While this solved the problem of keeping time, one of the most important applications of this technology
continually evaded him. In order to reliably determine ones latitude while at sea, some form of accurate timekeeping is needed. As a citizen of the
Dutch Republic, whose economy was heavily dependent on shipping via the sea, Huygens was especially desperate to solve this problem. However,

Huygens was one of the first scientists to recognize that the speed of light must necessarily be a finite quantity, and from this he was able to determine
a kinematic theory of light. The theory details spherical waves which emanate at the speed of light (which Huygens did not explicitly define other than
saying that it was a finite quantity) in uniform wave fronts. Huygens' spherical light waves propagated in a longitudinal fashion, and thus must
necessarily have a medium through which to propagate. Huygens envisioned this ether was "composed of tiny, closely spaced, elastic particles, which
vibrate and pass on the waves of light" (Charles). However, not all of Huygens' contemporaries agreed with his formulation of the wave nature of light.
Isaac Newton, in particular, was a vocal opponent of his theory in favor of his own 'corpuscular' theory of light. Huygens, as stated in his Ebscohost
Biography: "...regarded the transmission of such particles through empty space to be mere Newtonian "action at a distance" again and incompatible
with a mechanistic view of nature". However, Newton's prominence at the time meant that Huygens's theory of light remained relatively unknown until
mid–19th century, when it was rediscovered and eventually reformulated into what we now know as the Maxwell

How do deaf people use telephones? What about doorbells...
How do deaf people use telephones? What about doorbells and alarm clocks?
There are many everyday devises that we hearing people take for granted, among these are telephones, smoke alarms, doorbells, and alarm clocks.
When we look at how members of the deaf community use these everyday items we must consider that members within the community have very
different communication needs, abilities, and preferences. Hard–of–hearing people for example can use a standard telephone with the addition of a
headset or amplifier, while some hard–of–hearing people may prefer a TTY deaf persons rely on it, or a relay service to communicate as we (hearing
people) would on a telephone.
Teletype or Teletypewriter, commonly... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The advance of the internet has had an effect on the use of TTYs with wide availability of e–mail, and real time chat programs. An internet relay
service is also available, and toll–free; it connects internet 'callers' with voice telephone parties. With a relay service the operator types what is
spoken and also speaks what is types to the appropriate party. While there are members of the deaf community that must rely on these devises in
whole, others may prefer to use voice carryover, or VCO. With VCO users read the message on their TTY but then speak their response to the other
party into a microphone. This is a time saving option for those members of the community that may no be able to hear, but that can speak clearly.
When it comes to alarm clocks, doorbells, phone calls, and safety systems lighting is often key.
Flashing lights are used to alert users of a doorbell, phone call, or emergency. These flashing systems cause a dedicated light to flash in response to
the action. A whole house can be wired so that one might be aware of such 'alerts' from any room; these systems can very from a relatively
inexpensive system that uses signal lights and lamp flashers, to a professionally installed system – all and all it comes down to what is necessary and
the price one is willing to pay. These signal systems can be wired in such that specific lights

How To Write A Personal Narrative Essay
When I woke up that Tuesday morning in 7th grade, I thought it would be like any other day, until my head started excruciatingly pounding. Even
worse, it didn't go away. Something was wrong. Prior to this, I was a relatively healthy child. I participated in many sports; played "the floor is lava"
constantly with my brothers (who doesn't know that game?!), climbed trees in our front yard every day, and hung upside down on the monkey bars at
recess all the time. I did everything any other kid would do. My seeming headache though became a debilitating condition, which has made many
things difficult over the last six years. For one, I've come to face many physical challenges. Although it seems insignificant, I no longer was able ...

that my first neurologist when I was twelve told my parents that "it's all in her head." I knew I felt pain, but I would question whether I was

Complexity in American Education Control Essay
Complexity in American Education Control Often times, we hear the words complex and complicated used interchangeably. In fact, out of curiosity, I
highlighted the two words in Microsoft Word after typing them in the previous sentence and looked at the synonyms provided. Oddly enough,
complex is synonymous with words such as multifaceted and intricate. Yet, when I pulled up the synonyms for complicated, complex was the first
word listed. What is complexity? How does it differ from complicated issues? Complicated systems are exactly what Microsoft Word said. They are
multifaceted and intricate. They have several parts, but there is only one determined way for these systems to work. This means that a change in one

Spring (2014) introduced the issue as a complicated question, but I think it is more complex. Who controls American education? More importantly, who
should control American education?
My obvious choice would be the teachers, but after much debate, I'm not sure that is the best solution. Whoever controls what should be taught in
public schools also chooses what morals and behaviors to teach students. I can remember as a child, teachers would tell my mother that they wished
they had a whole classroom of kids like me. Sure, I was bright. But more importantly, I was quiet and well–behaved. Not all teachers think this way, but
a majority would rather have students to not speak or move during class. Is that what we want the future of America to be? I don't know about you, but
I want to raise a generation that will stand for what they believe in, form their own opinions, and think critically.
Don't get me wrong. I don't believe it is the intention of any teacher to actually constrain a child from obtaining the education they want. But with the
standards they have to meet and the laws in place, it makes teaching easier to have cooperative students. As Ishmael says in Daniel Quinn's book, My
Ishmael, " What one sees first is how far short real schooling falls from the ideal of 'young minds being awakened.' Teachers for the most part would be
delighted to awaken young minds, but the system within which they must work fundamentally frustrates

Globe's Most Precise Atomic Clock Invented
Time is an adventure that humans seem to be preoccupied in for everything from when we get up in the morning, when we go to work and when we
go to bed, but if you compared all the clocks and watches of the world, there's a new atomic clock out that is so accurate that it will only lose one tiny
second in a timeframe of 15 billion years!
Apple may have invented its new Apple Watch, but this new optical lattice clock, or it is also being called the strontium atomic clock, will put it to
shame when it comes to accuracy. The new atomic clock was created by scientists from the National Institute of Standards and Technology
(www.nist.gov/index.html), last year, but now they have adjusted it to the point where it is the most precise atomic clock in existence.... Show more

When it comes to defining precision in this case, it means how close the new atomic clock can get to the actual frequency in which the strontium atoms
inside of it resonate and oscillate in–between two electronic energy levels.
In this case, this new atomic clock is so precise that it can even measure how the passage of time changes at higher levels of elevation on the Earth, as
clocks will actually tick faster if you travel to a higher elevation area. This fact fits in with Einstein's theory of relativity (en.wikipedia.org/wiki
/Theory_of_relativity). According to the scientists who created it, this means the clock can measure gravitational shits if you raise it up a mere two
centimeters from the surface of the Earth.

Cultural Artifact Of Watch History
Most people have a different perception of what would be considered a "popular cultural artifact" just because everyone enjoys and thinks of things in
a different way. What might be popular or used every day for me could be something someone has never even see before. Along with that, most of
those artifacts are just fads that last a year or two and then they are forgotten. Pet rock, parachute pants, and ankle warmers just to name a few. Although
some artifacts stick around for the long run.
The history of Watches shows simply how the evolution of watches has taken place:

Father Time, By Elie Wiesel
Time, from one person's experience to another, from day to day, from emotion to emotion, varies more than the individuals who experience it. Yet time
still can be measured. People, almost from the earth's inception, have had a desire to regulate time. This is still seen today, with all the watches, phone
clocks, wall clocks, analog clocks, digital clocks, grandfather clocks, atomic clocks, timers, and stopwatches. Unfortunately, while it is possible to
measure the actual emissions from an atom's atomic transition, it is impossible to measure time perception in different circumstances. Both the poem

"Good morning" We all mumbled to the driver as we stepped aboard the bus. Our stop was one of the last ones on the route, so almost all the seats
were taken. I walked all the way to the back of the bus to find a seat.
"Hello" I said to the girl in my seat. She reluctantly moved her pack and scooted over to make room for me. I sat down in the seat, and closed my

Personal Narrative: My American Dream
I wake to the sound of harsh car horns and street vendors yelling at tourists to buy their "limited edition" bobble heads of our president Donald
Trump VIII. What a way to wake up. Back home I was greeted with the crash of sleepy morning waves and calls of the seagulls letting me know it
was morning. Carlsbad was where I grew up for the seventeen years I have been alive and planned to spend the rest of my life. That dream was
crushed when Trump decided to start testing his nuclear weapons off the coast of California to show off his power to North Korea. The toxic waste
became so great that everyone living on the West Coast had to move inland. My dad John applied to work as a secret service agent to the president
when we realized there was a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My nose fills with the sensational smell of garlic bread as I bound down the stairs. My dad just got home from work and I greet him with a massive
hug. Dinner is just about ready so my brother and I set the table. My mom, dad, brother, and I sit down and begin eating our spaghetti dinner. We
sit in the sad, scared silence we usually do ever since we moved here.We all know that we wish we were still in Carlsbad with the rest of our family
and that with everything going on there's nothing we can do to change that. So, we sit in silence because we are also tired of hearing about how
close we are to nuclear war. Then out of nowhere my brother slings a fat meatball at me from across the table. For the first time in a long time, I
can hear the cackle of my mom and dad's laughter that sounds like music to my ears. The table erupts with laughter and I can feel the mood of my
whole entire family shift back to the happy easy going people that I know and love. For the first time since we moved here, I thought I could actually
get used to living here with my one of a kind family. Then the bomb sirens go off, only this time we can see the bright balls of light headed our

  • 1. What Is John Harrison Legends And Legacies Charlotte Moore NHD ROUGH DRAFT 1/5/2015 John Harrison: Legends and Legacies The legends and legacies of our world have shaped society and have impacted our daily lives and will continue to for centuries. John Harrison is one of many legends and legacies that has shaped our lives. John Harrison changed and developed technology in an enormous way that saved numerous lives and still affects how we live and travel today. Even though John Harrison did not have the advantages of a formal education so he used his knowledge from his father about clocks to his advantage. John Harrison's knowledge from his father led him to create the chronometers that led many people on many safe journeys. John Harrison's son William followed in his father's footsteps also by helping him in creating the chronometer. John Harrison had a huge impact on society especially for fixing "The Longitude Problem" which still has effects society today and we wouldn't be able to travel through space. Before John Harrison created the chronometer it was thought that you could only tell longitude by looking at astronomy, but the problem was if you were sailing on a stormy night that you cannot see the stars and you would get lost. IN fact, it was John Harrison's arch nemesis's theory that you could tell longitude by looking at astronomy which John Harrison proved to be false. John Harrison discovered the chronometer that contradicted this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Richmond High School: A Short Story t was like any normal day at Richmond high school. Everyone was walking to or from class, getting in their lockers, or using the restroom. As everyone got to their class the bell rang and the teachers shut the doors. I was sitting in my first–hour waiting watching the clock tick slowly. I had already finished my work so I was just sitting quietly staring at the clock. The bell rang as we all went to our lockers, then our next class. In the second hour my phone went off while I was trying to listen to music, my friend messaged me but I ignored it. • 3. History of Time Telling Machines The Tick in the Clock New technology often begins with the clear intention of solving an ongoing problem or satisfying a societal need. Many times, this new piece of technology is simple, such as the toothpick. Other times, a new technology can be a thing of great complexity, such as a computer hard drive or Facebook. One piece of technology in particular has changed the way human society has functioned over the past few centuries. Everyone strives to keep track of time, as more and more technologies arise and give way to an increased demand for a structured day. In order to do this, one looks up at a clock. The clock, to put it simply, is a device used to tell the hours, minutes, and seconds of a day. According to Artemidorus of Daldis, a second century A.D. writer, "A clock signifies occupations and undertakings, movements and the start of transactions. For men keep their eyes on the time in all that they do," (Dohrn–van Rossum 17). Not only does a clock keep track of time, it signifies the need for the human race to organize and control their surroundings, as it has been from the first encounter between technology and the human race. The technology of a clock is simple yet varied. The clock's shell is usually made out of brass, copper, tin or zinc. After the shell is molded the components of the clock are assembled; significant working parts including the face, arms, power source, gear train, escapement, wheels, mainspring, pendulum and quartz are all ... Smiley Face In Watchmen The smiley face in the comic book Watchmen is the most recognized image, which is iconic throughout the entire storyline, especially in the beginning and at the end of the story. The smiley face has a blood stain spattered from its center to the upper left which is interpreted as a clock's minute hand that points at twelve minutes to the hour which is in particularly implied to have a connection with the Doomsday Clock. According to this, the few minutes left are interpreted to be representing how the "catastrophic destruction of the world is very close." The smiley faces being a representation of innocence and how everything appears to be very well but have been tainted by the blood stain. This is also seen in the badge of the comedian which... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This clearly shows how the smiley face has been used in the comic work. It reflects, the character, The Comedian, who is described to be ruthless and very cynical. The symbolism here is very profound and well illustrated all to support the major theme of the book as it is developed by the characters like The Comedian who are involved in various scenes as superheroes of the society. Throughout his role, The Comedian reflects a character with deeper insights as part of the heroes who are costumed in the society. The symbol, smiley, is used in a religious poster featuring Buddha (V.7–22). A yellow sun is seen behind him and the sun is spattered with blood in the same position as the blood stained badge. The stain of blood also covers the left eye of Buddha just as it does on the smiley face. In the comic, Mrs. Hirsch's is the mother of two children who were killed by their father and later on is questioned by police office. • 6. Parallels Between "Mrs Dalloway" and "The Hours" The ongoing relationship between the literary movements of modernism and post–modernism is encompassed by the intertextual relationships between Stephen Daldry's "The Hours" and Virginia Woolf's "Mrs Dalloway". These relationships communicate the inadequacy of previous writings to convey trauma, cultural crisis and the deep fragmentation within their respective societies. The immediate context of these social dialogues creates a clear division between each text, however the intertextual similarities between minor and major characters create an effective parallel to traverse decades, years, months and days. This is in order to assess the lasting impacts of society on an individual's desire to escape either physically or metaphorically.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... " The coffee was very slow ... until Mr Whitbread had finished ... Hugh was so very slow" the agonising sense of immediacy both draws our attention back to clock time whilst allowing us to delve into Clarissa's past as she recalls that Hugh is always so absurdly slow. As reality is blurred in psychological time, external time punctuates the novel "There! Out it boomed. First a warning, musical, then the hour, irrevocable" this reminds the reader that this story is in fact occurring in a single day and every event experienced outside of this timeframe is a figment of a characters memory. Woolf makes these memories the focus of the novel rather than external time to create a mobile reality where she fabricates the sense of movement by traversing time through the consciousness of her characters. These memories therefore are from a specific point of view and therefore exclude some properties of the remembered moment and parts of said reality may simply be "dissolved in the air" as the memory fades with ongoing time. Daldry approaches Woolf's tunnelling technique with sensitivity and subtlety in order to unify Virginia, Laura and Clarissa. The repetitive musical score by Philip Glass creates a sense of the cyclical nature of time and is evocative of the relentlessness of time. This too creates an illusion of both time and timelessness as the regular rhythm simulates that of a clock as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Relationship Between Marketing And Customer Value INTRODUCTION This paper aims to explain the relationship between marketing and customer value and their relevance when promoting and ensuring customer satisfaction. It will discuss marketing as a business philosophy and its importance in organisations. The concept of customer value will also be examined and its significance to the success of a product. Throughout the paper, the Apple Watch will be drawn on to further explore the concepts and to put them into context. Marketing has been defined in a number of ways. Kotler (1983,p.7) defined marketing as a "human activity directed at satisfying needs and wants through exchange processes." He felt this encapsulated the fundamentals of marketing and went on to present the basic concepts of needs, a state of felt deprivation, that are plentiful and complex, they include basics such as food or clothing, wants which he described as an "expression of human needs, shaped by a person's culture or individual development" (Kotler, 1972, p. 8), demands, wants that are backed by buyer power, exchanges, "the act of obtaining a desired object from someone by offering something in return." (Kotler, 1972, p. 10), an exchange can also occur between a person and a television program (Bagozzi, 1975) and transactions, a trade of values between any two parties. The main aim of Kotler's definition was to highlight the importance of customer satisfaction, and the significance of needs and wants. Businesses need marketing in order to reach ... Here's how it all starts. The alarm rings and you lay in bed hoping it's just a part of your dream. When you realize it's not, you are forced to move and have to turn the horrible sound off. There are two ways you could go from here. You could either "close your eyes for a bit", but actually end up sleeping in. Or you could get up and have to face a long school day that comes with negative outcomes. Students are always sleepy, unfocused, and have an unbalanced time schedule when they have to wake up early in the morning, therefore school should start later. A Brief Note On The Assembly Operator Chapter 15 15.4) Starving is defined as the situation where the assembly operator has finished the assigned work on the give work unit time load but they didn't receive the next unit at the station. Workers are forced to the situation of starving. Blocking is defined as the work completed at the assignedtime limit but cannot be passed to the downstream station because of the reason that the worker is not ready to receive the unit. In that case, worker is blocked from working. 15.7) In production line terminology, line efficiency means when the time of downtime of the line is averaged in, the proportion time limit on the production line. It is basically the ration of theoretical cycle time to actual production time. 15.9) Service time Ts is defined as the actual amount of period available for work at the station to complete the assigned task and the cycle time Tc is defined as the periodic time interval between the arrival of work load at the station. The difference between the both is the repositioning time, Tr. Mathematically it can be defined as the Ts= Tc– Tr. 15.11) Precedence constraint is the restriction on the purchase where the work elements are performed. There are few elements that must be completed before others. For instance, a threaded hole must be drilled before it is tapped. 15.12) Balance efficiency is defined as the work content time limit is portioned into the total possible service time limit on the specific line. Whether it be listening to the radio or using our cell phones to communicate with others. Technology has helped us in many ways which made it part of our daily routine. When I start of my day, I use my phone's alarm clock to wake myself up. Once I am up, i grab my ipad and play some video on youtube. The video is usually like some type of podcast just to listen to while i get ready. Then i sometimes eat breakfast while still listening to the podcast. After eating breakfast, it's about that time to go to school. Before i leave, i make sure i have my phone because without it, I feel like i lose connection to the "world". As i drive to school, i listen to my spotify music. Once i get to school, i usually don't use much of my phone. I occasionally check the time and to see if i got any texts. Other than that, I am paying attention and taking notes. By the time my classes end, I head to my car but while doing so, i check some of my social media accounts. The social media accounts i use the most are instagram and snapchat. I realized that i only check it while i walk because i feel that the walk to my car seems quicker. Once i get home, i make sure to feed my dogs and either make something to eat or eat something i bought. While doing so, i watch youtube videos of the people im subscribed to. As I head down the hallway and make my way to the second floor I hear a loud Yo! coming from the opposite end of the hallway. By this time I was thinking the hallway was empty because I was a minute late for class just because I took the long way there. I turned around to see who was making the noise. The Atomic Bombs Released On The Doomsday Clock Jadis Chavez–Storrs Professor Myers English 1A 26 February 2017 Seconds to Midnight on the Doomsday Clock The Atomic bombs released on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan by an American B–29 bomber, the Enola Gay, brought WWII to a significant end. During WWII, the United States and Soviet Union served as allies against the Axis Powers. Though this wasn't the only alliance standing against Japan, Italy, Hungary, Romania, and Bulgaria; The United States' and USSR's relationship at this point in history was controversial because the two nations never completely trusted each other although fighting common enemies. A civilian who was exposed to the atomic bomb, Yamamoka Michiko, reflects on the scene she so devastatingly was a part of the day the bomb was dropped. Her description of the cities ruins gives us an idea of just how brutal and horrific the nuclear weapon turned to be. Not only did the United States privately construct such a ruthless weapon, but also used the Atomic Bomb as an unfortunate way to instantaneously end WWII. The United States' decision to bomb Japan was seen as directed against the Soviet Union because during this time, Stalin had moved troops to the far East in order to enter war with Japan to secure and strengthen a soviet strategic position for combat. The bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki is seen as an unnecessary war crime because allied nations were making moves to prepare to defeat Japan. As the viewer can tell, this is a story of time and life. The memories start in the background where all is well and things are straight and calm. Moving on to the cliff, the observer possibly sees a well–behaved teenager. There is nothing horrible here that leads the spectator to gasp, and the viewer knows this person made it through that time in their life. Then the picture moves on to the age of about twenty, the memories are fond but in the distant past. The memories are protected by a white blanket so that they do not just fall into the background. Then something happened where the person had some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The next item that the eye is drawn to is the fly, resting on this clock. Although this clock seems to be melting like the others in the picture, the fly plays an important part in this painting. Being the painting is named, The Persistence of Memory, the fly leads the onlooker to think these memories might not be as old as the rest. Flies are drawn to items that are rotting but still have some nutritional value; this clock is fresh enough to have more value than the other clocks around it, giving the spectator the thought that maybe while the clock is a memory, it is not distant and is still brought to the frontal lobe now and then to be revisited. After looking beyond the focal point, to the left of that clock and even a little bit closer is a pocket watch. This watch is in a contrasting orange color. This is the only orange used in the painting. The placing of the pocket watch is strategic, as it too is on the shelf with the most recent memory, but the line and angle of the shelf automatically pulls your eye to it. The pocket watch is closed and highly decorated with black. Although, the viewer cannot make out what the clock is decorated in, it seems to convey that this clock is very important to the scene. The onlooker might even see this as a memory that has not been opened yet. Something grand will take place in this time line portrayed by this painting. • 15. An Analysis Of Cold As Heaven By Judith Ortiz Cofer "Cold as Heaven"Judith Ortiz Cofer's poem "Cold as Heaven" is a very sweet interaction between a granddaughter and her dying grandmother. The granddaughter is the narrator. After reading the poem, I believe the meaning of the poem is that the cold is something that the grandmother never experienced, and the cold refers to heaven. The grandmother has not yet experienced heaven and she is curious. In lines 25–30: "When her eyes return to me, I can see she's waiting to hear more about the purifying nature of ice, how snow makes way for a body, how you can make yourself an angel by just lying down and waving your arms" (Cofer). These lines describe winter as a place where angels are made. It mentions that even when the snow touches you, it is a feeling of purification. This symbolizes that heaven is a place filled with angels that purify you. The poem consists of many different uses of figurative language in order to connect snow to death. Cofer included the use of similes to allow the readers to make a connection to what she was saying, so that they could grasp a better understanding. An example of a simile can be found in lines 6–7: "the Caribbean sun winds up the world like an old alarm clock" (Cofer). The author is comparing two unlike things, the sun and an alarm clock, however they have a similar connection. The Caribbean sun is what wakes the world, just like an alarm clock does. The use of this simile adds to the poem's meaning because it describes the life that the grandmother lives and that is warmth in her home in the Caribbean. There is a lot of imagery included in the poem. Throughout the poem I was able to visualize what the author descriptively shared. The poem includes descriptions of where the grandmother lives in the Caribbean, where the granddaughter lives with the winter weather, and how heaven looks through the eyes of the granddaughter's comparison to winter. As I read through the poem several time, I looked for some mention of Christianity. I found it in lines 1–2: "Before there is a breeze again before the cooling days of Lent, she may be gone" (Cofer). Obviously, it is a Christian belief that when you die you will go to heaven. I wondered how long grandma ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In 1658, he was the first to build a pendulum clock –– the first great step towards modern timekeeping (Magill et. al.). He published the schematics and his speculations about future improvements in his Horologium in 1658. While this solved the problem of keeping time, one of the most important applications of this technology continually evaded him. In order to reliably determine ones latitude while at sea, some form of accurate timekeeping is needed. Huygens' spherical light waves propagated in a longitudinal fashion, and thus must necessarily have a medium through which to propagate. Huygens envisioned this ether was "composed of tiny, closely spaced, elastic particles, which vibrate and pass on the waves of light" (Charles). However, not all of Huygens' contemporaries agreed with his formulation of the wave nature of light. Isaac Newton, in particular, was a vocal opponent of his theory in favor of his own 'corpuscular' theory of light. Huygens, as stated in his Ebscohost Biography: "...regarded the transmission of such particles through empty space to be mere Newtonian "action at a distance" again and incompatible with a mechanistic view of nature". There are many everyday devises that we hearing people take for granted, among these are telephones, smoke alarms, doorbells, and alarm clocks. Hard–of–hearing people for example can use a standard telephone with the addition of a headset or amplifier, while some hard–of–hearing people may prefer a TTY deaf persons rely on it, or a relay service to communicate as we (hearing people) would on a telephone. While there are members of the deaf community that must rely on these devises in whole, others may prefer to use voice carryover, or VCO. My parents spend time from their already busy lives accompanying me to doctors and treatment sessions, leaving my two brothers often on their own. The worst part has been mentally. The condition caused me to have a lot of stress and anxiety. Medicines I took wouldn't work; I became desensitized to treatments like acupuncture (something that got me through 10th grade); and getting to school became more difficult. There were many days where I'd think to myself: "I quit. I can't do this anymore." It didn't help that my first neurologist when I was twelve told my parents that "it's all in her head." I knew I felt pain, but I would question whether I was overreacting, since few people other than my family believed me. It took almost five years and over 200 days of missed school to finally be correctly diagnosed. I had Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS), which is not yet well understood, but has caused me countless severe migraine headaches, constant vertigo, and perpetual ... • 28. Complexity in American Education Control Essay Complexity in American Education Control Often times, we hear the words complex and complicated used interchangeably. In fact, out of curiosity, I highlighted the two words in Microsoft Word after typing them in the previous sentence and looked at the synonyms provided. Oddly enough, complex is synonymous with words such as multifaceted and intricate. Yet, when I pulled up the synonyms for complicated, complex was the first word listed. What is complexity? How does it differ from complicated issues? Complicated systems are exactly what Microsoft Word said. They are multifaceted and intricate. They have several parts, but there is only one determined way for these systems to work. This means that a change in one area will always create a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Spring (2014) introduced the issue as a complicated question, but I think it is more complex. Who controls American education? More importantly, who should control American education? My obvious choice would be the teachers, but after much debate, I'm not sure that is the best solution. Whoever controls what should be taught in public schools also chooses what morals and behaviors to teach students. I can remember as a child, teachers would tell my mother that they wished they had a whole classroom of kids like me. Sure, I was bright. But more importantly, I was quiet and well–behaved. Not all teachers think this way, but a majority would rather have students to not speak or move during class. Is that what we want the future of America to be? I don't know about you, but I want to raise a generation that will stand for what they believe in, form their own opinions, and think critically. Don't get me wrong. I don't believe it is the intention of any teacher to actually constrain a child from obtaining the education they want. But with the standards they have to meet and the laws in place, it makes teaching easier to have cooperative students. As Ishmael says in Daniel Quinn's book, My Ishmael, " What one sees first is how far short real schooling falls from the ideal of 'young minds being awakened.' Teachers for the most part would be delighted to awaken young minds, but the system within which they must work fundamentally frustrates ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Personal Narrative: A Girl's Death? "Wake up," Josie Said to me as she pulled the comforter off of my bed. "Five more minutes," I slowly griped. "No, Gabriel, we have to get our bags packed, today's the day," Said Josie. I sat up noticing the monumental amount of light that was pouring into my room through my window. A few minutes later, I decided that I was ready to get out of my bed. While I was getting up, I quickly realized that I wasn't ready; I got up anyway. My bones were aching worse than a two day old flu shot, and my head spinning quicker than a hurricane. Once I was ready to go downstairs, I picked up a blanket lying on the floor, I then wrapped it around my half naked body, and I walked out of my bedroom and down the stairs I headed. After going down the inevitably long stairs, I went to the kitchen to get me a glass of orange juice–a glass fresh from our small city of Destin, Florida. I drank the entire glass in under a minute. (That was a personal record of mine that changes from time to time.) When I got done drinking the orange juice, I went to Josie's room to see what I needed to... • 30. A Report On Tick Tock Tick–Tock 1 Every day brings a new surprise and this day sure brought a good one. The thing that I dealt 1with that day was something I never would imagine happening to me or anyone in a million years. I 2 was home with just my two brothers. It was an ordinary summer afternoon. The wind blowing, the 3birds tweeting. Not a problem in sight. Until I took a short nap and rose a few hours later. My eyes 4quickly opened to a vexatious sound. A continues ticking which messed with my head. Tick –tock 5tick–tock over and over again. I took a deep breath and calmed down for a second. Then, the 6monstrous noise hit me again. Out in my dad's garage, I grabbed a hammer and then dumped the bag of 32watches out on the floor. I deathly gripped the hammer and smashed each watch one by one. After I 33had finished, I piled the watch scraps back in the bag and grabbed a shovel. I ran to the side of the 34house and dug a small hole where I buried each and every watch. After I was done, I returned my 35items and went back inside and I swear that the ticking went away for a few minutes, but the 36moments of glory didn't last long. Suddenly, the deplorable sound started again. I cringed. I took a 37deep breath and thought for a second. Then, something in my kitchen caught my eye. Aclock. 38How could I not know that a clock in the house was making the noise! Relief struck me like 39lightning, powerfully and quickly. I skedaddled and grabbed the clock I had originally spotted. After, 40I collected the few other clocks that hung in my house. Once more, I flew out the door to get the 41hammer. Just like before, I smashed each clock to its death. Just like you do to people, I buried the 42clocks right by the watches I earlier put in the ground. Globe's Most Precise Atomic Clock Invented Globe's Most Precise Atomic Clock Invented Time is an adventure that humans seem to be preoccupied in for everything from when we get up in the morning, when we go to work and when we go to bed, but if you compared all the clocks and watches of the world, there's a new atomic clock out that is so accurate that it will only lose one tiny second in a timeframe of 15 billion years! Apple may have invented its new Apple Watch, but this new optical lattice clock, or it is also being called the strontium atomic clock, will put it to shame when it comes to accuracy. The new atomic clock was created by scientists from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (www.nist.gov/index.html), last year, but now they have adjusted it to the point where it is the most precise atomic clock in existence.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When it comes to defining precision in this case, it means how close the new atomic clock can get to the actual frequency in which the strontium atoms inside of it resonate and oscillate in–between two electronic energy levels. In this case, this new atomic clock is so precise that it can even measure how the passage of time changes at higher levels of elevation on the Earth, as clocks will actually tick faster if you travel to a higher elevation area. This fact fits in with Einstein's theory of relativity (en.wikipedia.org/wiki /Theory_of_relativity). According to the scientists who created it, this means the clock can measure gravitational shits if you raise it up a mere two centimeters from the surface of the Earth. Cultural Artifact Of Watch History Most people have a different perception of what would be considered a "popular cultural artifact" just because everyone enjoys and thinks of things in a different way. What might be popular or used every day for me could be something someone has never even see before. Along with that, most of those artifacts are just fads that last a year or two and then they are forgotten. Pet rock, parachute pants, and ankle warmers just to name a few. Although some artifacts stick around for the long run. Some one in eight say they wear their watch as a status symbol, but this rises to one in four of those 25–34s. Yet time still can be measured. People, almost from the earth's inception, have had a desire to regulate time. This is still seen today, with all the watches, phone clocks, wall clocks, analog clocks, digital clocks, grandfather clocks, atomic clocks, timers, and stopwatches. Unfortunately, while it is possible to measure the actual emissions from an atom's atomic transition, it is impossible to measure time perception in different circumstances. Harold Crick's Views In Stranger Than Fiction An important theme that is shown throughout the film, Stranger than Fiction, directed by Marc Forster, is the power of growth and the ideological behavior of changing one's views. Only once Harold finally accepts the fact his future is not controlled by him or his watch, only by fate, does he realize true happiness and freedom are in the palms of his hands. "This is a story about a man named Harold Crick and his wristwatch. Harold Crick was a man of infinite numbers, endless calculations, and remarkably few words. Throughout the film Harold's life is controlled by his wrist watch, ultimately always relying on the function of his watch to guide him in life with every decision he makes.
