Compare And Contrast The San Francisco Earthquake
Earthquakes are terrible, heartbreaking events. Being caught in one could turn the whole world as
you know it, upside down. The San Francisco Earthquake of 1906 went down in history as one of
the most deathifying, tragic earthquakes of all time. The main character in the fictional novel
Dragonwings describes this earthquakeas he lives through it. The main character, Moon Shadow,
can only describe the earthquake to a certain point, whereas a factual short story called The Great
1906 Earthquake and Fires of San Francisco , can provide a much broader span of information.
While both stories give valid data about this natural disaster, the two stories are very different and
provide various points of view about The San Francisco Earthquake.

Airport Security Research Paper
Many years ago airport security was not even an issue. People felt secure and safe and rarely
worried about being searched. As time went on, the prevealance of terrorism became an
increasing issue. There began more acts of terrorism by threatening and holding hostages on
board commercial planes. As these acts continued, the government as well as citizens became
vulnerable and an airport safety procedure was implemented as a way to ensure the safety of the
United States. The implemented procedures over the years included a check and scan of all carry
on and checked baggage, body scans, hire government airport employees, and a strict list of carry
on items. This made travelers feel safer as it decreased the ability of terrorist to commit... Show

Thirty years ago, a man named Martin Annis invented a fully body X ray scanner (Nickisch). After
9/11 and a few terrorist s attacks, airports finally became interested in this scanner. The person
behind the push for heightened security is Michael Chertoff, the head of the Department
Homeland Security (Nickisch). Today he is the cofounder of the Chertoff group, which is a risk
management and security consulting company and is one of the biggest manufactures of body
imaging screening machines (Nickisch). Michael Chertoff represents some of the manufactures
that make this technology. So perhaps his interests in body scanners and security is not just
about protecting the American people. He seems to be abusing his relationship with the public
by pretending to be a public servant and how these scanners are going to make us safer. He
stands to benefit because he is getting paid by the manufacturing companies to go all over the
television network saying these scanners are the solution to security. Flying now is even more
bothersome then ever before with the new procedures after 9/11. These body scanners became
nicknamed Nude o scopes for the intrusive naked pictures they create. These body scanners see
through clothes but not through the body itself, leaving the possibility for some to hidemalicious
items internally. I am sure there are ways around this system to try and detonate bombs during the
flights. Do they really need to go so far as to be looking at pictures of

Analysis Of Snow Country
Snow Country is a novel written by Japanese writer Yasunari Kawabata. This romantic fictional
novel is about a rich man named Shimamura, who travels to a remote mountain area for a retreat
and ends up meeting a woman named Komako who later becomes a geisha and Yoko who does
not really appear as much but has a huge influence on Shimamura. Komako begins to fall in love
with Shimamura, and an affair starts to blossom between Shimamura and , but this ends in a
disaster due to Shimamura s apathetic character. Snow country is a medium of escapism both as
a place and also, emotionally due to the fact that it is a recreational retreat far away from the
commotion of the city. Psychologically, Snow country offers a sense of escape because of its
seclusion from the fast moving activities of Tokyo. Its seclusion from the city offers a sense of
serenity for those who visits. Snow country is a place where these individuals get to experience
something different from the dull daily routines in the city. Shimamura s venture is an evident
example, his journey to Snow country gives him a sense of freedom from his dull daily
activities. Komako s remark about Tokyo residents gives one an idea of how life is in Tokyo as
it reads: They live in such noise and confusion that their feelings are broken to little bits
(118).People in Tokyo are like robots they are all detached from their feelings due to the many
activities in the city these people do not have the time to calm down and reflect on one s life.
Just like the people in the city, Shimamura is like a robot. The man is an empty soul in search of
something new and exciting to fill up the void in his soul, and Snow country offers that
psychological freedom from Tokyo. Just to reiterate, Snow country s location is symbolic to the
disparity between the city and nature, from the dirty carbon filled air to the natural fresh air from
the forests. Snow country s isolation from the modern world is a form of loneliness and this
loneliness is symbolic of Shimamura and Komako. It is just as Komako confirms, people in Tokyo
live in noise and confusion that their soul are broken into little bits. Shimamura s apathetic
character makes him lonesome and this void

Comparison of Las Meninas and Arnolfini Double Portrait...
Two of the most extensively analyzed works of art are Diego Velasquez s Las Meninas and Jan
Van Eyck s Arnolfini Double Portrait. Both of these artist s talent won them recognition not only
during their lifetime but after as well. Both Velasquez and Van Eyck have a justly earned title as the
most talented artists of their respective times. A detailed examination of the details and intricacies
of these artist s respective masterpieces, their similarities, and what sets them apart not just from
each other but from other paintings from their time period and style, will lead the viewer to a better
understanding of the mentalities of these gifted artists and how they transcend their respective
genres and contemporaries to create their own... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The couple s outfits are thick and even have fur, although the painting suggests that it is spring or
summer, due to the amount of sunlight entering from the window and the fresh oranges (most
oranges are harvest during the spring). The furniture and the drapery is impressive, and the
oranges themselves are rare and are therefore a symbol of wealth. The painting also illustrates the
relationship between the two subjects through various objects. The painting suggests that the
subjects are married. There is a dog in between the couple, which represents loyalty. Both
characters have rings on their ring fingers, which suggests that they are both married. Also, the
painting shows that both characters have removed their shoes, which implies that they are
standing on holy ground, such as Moses was when speaking to god through a burning bush in
the bible. The reason they are on holy ground is because a holy ceremony has taken place, that
is, a wedding. Notice the characters body language is composed of the dominant husband and the
submissive wife. There is also various references to the newlywed couple s intentions of starting a
family. Not only does the wife s attire exaggerate her belly, making her seem as if she were
pregnant, but behind here there is a statue of Saint Margaret, the saint of childbirth and fertility.
When the individual objects of this painting are viewed as a whole, the message becomes clear. Jan

Why Is Feudalism Important In The Middle Ages
In our society, we believe money is the key facet for power, however, in the medieval ages,
money barely had any value compared to land. Feudalism was a political, economic and social
system which organized the government by using land. The manor was a key aspect of feudalism
because it was where the feudal levels worked together to improve the economy. One of these
feudal levels contained the shepherd, who was an important role in the manor as he helped
feudalisms ability to meet its people s needs. Feudalism allowed for military to protect the culture
of its people, and without the shepherd, the whole system would have collapsed (Biel 9).
Feudalism was an important part of the Middle Ages (Biel 8). This system was created to organize

It helped the European empire rise from the dark ages, making the empire civilized.
Charlemagne, a Frankish King who reigned for about half a century, used feudalism as a base
for building his empire by establishing a central government (Biel 20). The key to be successful
in the feudal system was land, and the fiefs would be given based off of loyalty. During the
Medieval times, the people who owned land had power. Land provided the possibility to gain
military and political power (Nardo 14). Because of this, the feudal system evolved to become a
political tool to gain land and power. There are 3 main levels in this system, that depend on each
other to get what they need and contribute to others. Firstly, the king, who gave fiefs in exchange
for an army to protect his empire. Then the vassals, who receive the

Organisational Theory In Organizational Behavior
Sociology, psychology, communication, management, economics and human resource studies are
fields that comprise of organizational behavior. Within each of the theorists preferred model of
theory, their basis for conducting research is to examine how individuals and their behaviors
influence the environment. As evident by the available literature, each theorist uses modern
organizational studiesin order to understand, control, predict, and explain some phenomenon based
on a particular need. In the 1900s, theories were formulated around production and economic goals.
In the 1960 and 70s, theories were heavily influenced by social psychology and quantitative
research and in the 1980s, literature then expanded to providing cultural explanations of
organizations with influences from psychology, sociologyand anthropology, shifting from
quantitative to qualitative research as an acceptable method for conducting research.
The vast literature on organizational theory demonstrates that while there is no single way to
structure an organization, there are some commonly accepted general principles that can be
identified. For this particular literature review, my topic will focus primarily on the variation of
productivity and its influence in organizational theory as it relates to participant involvement,
motivation and decision making.

Reflection About My Writing Course
At the end of this course, I feel that a lot has improved with my writing. When I first started this
course, I was struggling with a lot of writing mechanisms. One of the things was transition. I was
just writing without thinking of how to connect my thoughts. After completing numerous writing
assignments, I am fully confident with my ability to have a paperthat flows. Another thing that I
struggled with was organization. Although I still have a lot of improvement to make, I think this
aspect of my writinghas improved. One of the things that helped me immensely was creating an
outline before writing my paper. Another aspect of my writing that also improved has to do with

I Beat The Odds Analysis
Some people wish for success while others work for it. I Beat The Odds: from homelessness to
the blind side and beyond is an engaging work of nonfiction written by Michael Oher, a renowned
NFL football prodigy today. Mr. Oher takes readers through his world of challenges, through his
emotional background and past the film based on his experiences, and significantly how he beat
the odds of society. Michael Oher s journey began as he grew up in the ghettos of Memphis,
Tennessee along with eleven half siblings. His mother, often high on cocaine would usually

could be. He adds later, I might be working at a Taco Bell. ... But you know what? That would

and doesn t involve breaking the law or hurting people. The reader receives an impression of a
man with remarkable maturity starting at a young age; compassion and kindness toward others
are even more outstanding given the lack of nurturing he received early in life. Even from a
young age, he could differentiate right from wrong. The book definitely gives the reader a better
idea of the real Michael Oher as he expresses a maturity beyond his years.
The simple and plainspoken style makes it easier for the reader to receive the loud message. The
word choice is simple, but the powerful story is unaffected. The tone is passionate and the author
is emotionally invested. However, the book is not very chronologically organized skips from

A Special Last Night By Diane Sawyer
Most of the humans in the world live on just a couple of dollars a day. In fact, I watched a special
last night where Diane Sawyer exposes the startling working middle class struggle in America. The
show followed several middle class Americans struggling to support their families and trying to
make ends meet. The recent economic struggles have seen the layoffof several employees in
companies and even some in public service. It is, however, significant to realize that since every
business and or sector is different, there must be various criteria used when laying off employees.
The general rule is that it must be justified and fairness considered across the board. You would
apply organizational planning, theories of human motivation,... Show more content on

Therefore, because of prioritized staffing, I will reduce the other departments carefully
considering the work done by each department. The focus for layoff would be in certain job
positions like secretary or assistant. Laying off individual police Captain s secretaries might not
be a popular decision and could cause more work for some of the departmental leaders, but that
would be the first resource to lose. That means if there are five secretaries or assistants, I will lay
off four of them and leave only one. Making that position for the entire department and not just one
indivdual. I would eliminate the position of office messenger because most of the communications
happen online and most departments have Wi Fi. Another thought is to offer and early retirement
option. Early retirement could hopefully generate some stimulus, and it may be able to get at least
three to four officers to retire early. Offering early retirement can identify persons willing to take
retirement and give them a retirement package with full benefits (George, 2003). Thereby ensuring
federal laws of age discrimination are not a factor.
Completing the plan takes insight. You must be a realist and deal with the ethical issues that may
arise. It is most certain that in any working environment, especially if you have been there a while,
you tend to build close and trusting relationships with your coworkers. Even as a leader you have
those employees that stand out. It is also

Leslie Marmon Silko s The Border Patrol State
Leslie Marmon Silko is a Tucson based Laguna Pueblo fiction author and poet. Having been based
in the southwestern area since 1978, she began to notice the increase in border security and
checkpoints. In 1994, her essay, The Border Patrol State, was published in The Nation magazine.
In it, she explains her concerns and criticisms for the development and enforcement of the US
Mexican border, arguing that it is an infringement on the free right to travel. She backs these
arguments up with a series of anecdotal accounts and experiences, using few statistical evidence. As
a result, Silko s essay becomes very powerful pathos wise, but weak when it comes to logos and
ethos.

The next few paragraphs is a retelling of her personal experience with the border patrol. In the story,
she and her companion were on their way home from a book promotion. This creates credibility by
establishing her as a well known author. At some point, they come up to a checkpoint where they
are confronted by some border patrol officers. During the confrontation, she begins to get a feeling
of menace from them liking them to Argentine police during Argentina s dirty war. This
comparison helps push her argument on the infringement of rights by comparing border patrol
actions to the oppressive actions of the Argentine police. It also allows readers who have gone
through similar experiences to relate or affirm their feelings.
During the confrontation, the border patrol officers bring in a dog to check for illegal substances or
immigrants. She described the dog as a small female German shepherd which was treated very
roughly by the border patrol officers. This use of diction paints the dog as a victim of sorts to the
border patrol officer s brutish actions. This acts as an appeal to emotion, allowing readers to
sympathize with the dog. The dog is first brought to the vehicle to check, but shows no interest.
During the search she describes the dog as resistant and showing contempt for the officers. After
searching the vehicle, the dog is made to search Silko and her companion. During the search, she
and the dog made eye contact. In that moment,

he saves himself. After the death of Mary, Dean was raised on two principles: hunting and taking
care of Sam. He feels it is his job and duty to do everything in his power to protect Sam. Dean s
family is his world, and after his father dies, all he has left is Sam. In every situation where Sam
is hurt or in danger, Dean loses any inhibition or fear in order to save him. As Sam grew, Dean
did his best to shield him from the world they knew so that he could be a normal happy kid.
Flashbacks throughout many episodes show viewers their lives as they grew up. What Dean

life. He knows it is too late for him. Later in the series, Dean gets involved with an old flame and

from the hazards of his lifestyle. He eventually gives them up to keep them out of harm. The
constant conflict he faces prevents him from becoming close with people. Therefore, occasionally
he has to remind Sam that they are all they have. Every episode tends to include and end with

A Christmas Carol Scrooge Essay
Once, Nikos Kazantzakis, a Greek writer, said, Since we cannot change reality, let us change the
eyes which see reality. Some people may think that you can only look at things in one
perspective, your own. Unfortunately, in the play A Christmas Carol, Ebenezer Scrooge

into light a few essential factors that, though seemingly irrelevant, lead to the final outcome of
this tale. And though those of you, with severely practical minds, may find the story of which I
am about to relate highly improbable. I beg of thee, pay heed. For not everything of importance
is visible to the human eye. You must accept that this ancient world in which we live can be a
strange and uncanny one. Just as the mire where mysteries, the villagers say, sleep undisturbed.
Hitherto, I had looked upon my situation in a skeptical manner. Let this story be a warning then
for those of you who should one day wish to visit Lofter and lay eye upon the mire for yourselves.
And so my dear readers, with no further delay, I ll begin this tale with my arrival to the village of
Lofter. I had traveled from London, leaving behind the great success of which I had established
for myself, to accept a job as a private physician for the Cardew family. Mr. Cornelius Cardew, of

First Decade Of The 1900s
What do you see as the most serious problem in the first decade of the 1900s? In the first decade of
the 1900s, I think the most serious problem was the high levels of poverty among the American
people (Barnes Bowles, 2014). Though there was racial, discrimination that time, it is evident that
the Americans discriminated each other in through the industrial capitalist power. Why was this
problem more serious than the other problems? The working conditions that time were extreme.
The working environments were unsafe; on the other hand, they were unsanitary ones. More often,
they created incidents that raised the public concerns (Barnes Bowles, 2014). Employers hired
children and women so that they can save by paying fewer wage. Individuals

Designing A Business Strategy For Business
Customizing Complex Buying Processes
Buyers with house accounts are easier to shepherd through complex buying processes such as
purchase order systems, gaining multiple approvals for business buys, authorizing multiple account
users and developing long term relationships and business partnerships. Many B2B companies are
moving toward using their platforms as marketplaces for multiple vendors, manufacturers and B2B
sales companies. Offering house credit is a good first step for positioning a B2B company at the
top of the chain for this forward thinking business strategy. When companies share financial
interests,. it s easier to work together from shared marketing platforms.
3. Fulfillment Convenience Applications
Customers enjoy faster processing of their orders when they ve been qualified for an account
because no immediate payment arrangements are necessary. B2B companies have all the
information they need to ship immediately, and customers with accounts generally provide more
complete information about their companies, buying habits and financial strengths so that
eCommerce platforms can segregate them with the high degrees of accuracy. When salespeople
know a company s limits, they can better target their sales efforts.
Gartner predicts that personalization on B2B ecommerce sites will enable companies to outsell
their competitors by 30 percent by 2018, and offering customers purchasing accounts delivers the
kind of personal service and easier ordering that ensure

Basic Types Of Price Discrimination
Price discrimination is defined as charging customers a different price for the same product. One
major factor of price discrimination is elasticity of demand. Elasticity of demand measures the
percentage of change in quantity to percentage of change in price. If the percent of change is
greater than one, it is elastic. On the other hand, if the percentage of change is less than one, it is
inelastic. For customers who are not pricesensitive, or the demand is elastic, when using price
discrimination, the price would rise. The price would be lower for customers who respond more to
changes in price, or the demand is elastic. Whenever price discriminationis possible, it can be highly
profitable for a business.
Further, there are three different types of price discrimination. First degree price discrimination,
otherwise known as perfect price discrimination, is when a firm charges every customer exactly
how much they are willing to pay for that good and charges a different price for every unit
consumed. Some examples include car sales and roadside sellers of fruit and produce. Next,
second degree price discrimination is when firms discriminate though volume discounts. This is
when a firm charges a different price for different qualities and allows buyers to purchase a higher
inventory at a reduced price. An example of this would be quantity discounts for bulk purchases.
While benefiting the high inventory buyers, it can hurt the low inventory buyer who is forced to
pay a

Lao Tzu Beliefs
2.Lao tzu s focus is more on collective peace than individual happiness. He believes that peace
can be achieved when the people are content. Lao tzu writes with some inclination of humanism.
He believes that people have inborn goodness, and he writes that citizens will act trustworthy
when their leader treats them that way. If they feel restricted, or believe they are being cheated,
they will act out and attempt to change their situation. Lao tzu explains that people function best
under a wise, distant ruler, and he believes that a peaceful society is one where the people are
happy. If people stop looking at the world with hope that it will change and start to appreciate what
it really is, their simple lives will start to bring them more joy.... Show more content on

In the Tao te Ching, Lao tzu recognizes the need for military action, but supports it only to a
limited extent. His belief is that a good ruler will avoid war unless it is necessary. This ruler will
engage in battle only if it is to protect his people; he will feel sorry for his enemy and for the
situation. An ideal leader would never be able to rejoice after a victory, because the death of an
enemy is still a tragedy. Lao tzu believes that violence will always be followed by violence, and
that the act of war itself is not virtuous. He believes that it is ideal to have no enemies.
Compromise is often favorable to violence. A war is only as good as the intentions behind
fighting it. When leaders start wars with selfish motives, they are resisting the natural order of
the universe. If people act in accordance with the Tao, they will find that violence is less frequent
in their lives. Lao tzu is morally opposed to war, and he would prefer a world without it. He is
practical, however, and believes that a leader should do what is necessary to protect the

Personal Narrative Soccer Team
Soccer is one of my first loves in life, so given the opportunity to pass this love on to someone
else I jumped at the chance. During the spring soccer season of 2016 a competitive U12 girls
soccer team needed a coach, and I jumped at the opportunity. The team consisted of fifteen girls
between the ages of ten and twelve. I ve played soccer for eleven years; in the past, I coached two
recreational soccer teams. Coaching a competitive soccer team was something I figured I was up
for the challenge of. Regular season playwent reasonably well, but the highlight of the season was
when the team went to The Yellowstone Cup in Rexburg, Idaho. This is where we had the most
growth as a team and where I learned the most about tactics as a coach.

After warm ups the referees had us line up and walk onto the field and face the crowd, so our

intensity instantly doubled. Right as the game started, I could see the new formation we
worked on in our game against Bridger valley that morning wasn t going to work. The Pocatello
players were penetrating our defense. Changing formations on the fly with young players is
extremely difficult. While I was struggling to get the team to understand what I wanted them to

regular formation. We continued to fight for the rest of the half, but we just couldn t get any

another player and went down. Her knee popped and hurt to walk on, so she could no longer

Meaning Of Words In Adah s A Silent Vow
Has a speech ever been presented that was very meaningful, but was also short and cut straight to
the point? The proverb words should be weighed, not counted perfectly shows that. When someone
is giving advice, a person doesn t just sit there and count the amount of words that are being said;
they pay attention to the message and grasp the concept. This proverb originates from a Yiddish
(Jewish) author. It s understandable why he would say something like this because his ancestors
went through the Holocaust. They tried explaining how they felt, but no one (especially Hitler)
listened to them which caused them to forcefully adapt. Another example, FBLA has planned a

Adah s poem is very revealing. Within the first few lines, the author wrote; But the silence of a
pen on a paper is a great sound (Adah). Although using pen and paper could be used to count the
words, what the person wrote down made a great sound . It shows that sometimes, people can t
just speak their mind; each thought needs to be written out, taking each word into deep
consideration. This poem shows that you don t have to speak literal words to get your point
across. Tony states, Here I have taken a silent vow and my pen spits liquid pellets on the faces of
retreating army (Adah). Without moving a single facial muscle, words that are written down can
mean the world to the right person. Fighting battles could be as easy as an arrangement of the
alphabet 26 simple letters. Tony s work enhances this proverb by taking a silent vow against
stereotypes. Worded better than anyone else could have, Adah says, Here where I am the
commander of the silent war and the pen my silent gun (Adah). As the author, commander, of this
work of literature; Adah controls the silent gun (pen). He battles the stereotype that one has to
openly speak without thinking about what they re saying. Contemplate all expressions; don t argue
blindly. A person shouldn t think on their feet . A Silent Vow elaborates on quality over quantity

The Tenants Of A Foolproof Governmental System
What are the tenants of a foolproof governmental system? How does one man or a group lead a
much larger society to prosper and grow? These are hard questions to answer, but there have been
a few key figures in history who have tried to answer them. Among the earliest texts on this topic,
Confucius Analects give some key insights into the topic. He seems to think the key to this perfect
government is for the leader and the people to be a gentleman . Plato brings a more detailed view
on the topic with his The Republic. He decides that the key is to have everyone specialized in the
job they have the most aptitude in. Then comes Machiavelli and his The Prince, with his
seemingly pessimistic view on life, to give stricter rules for the leader to follow. He says to always
be prepared in war and to put up a façade of virtuewhile doing what needs to be done in the
background. Once someone takes all three of these texts into context, they can begin to form a
picture how ancient and even modern governments are and have been run. Although, one has to
keep in mind that each of these men also thought they had the definite answer to this perfect society,
so keep studying their and even more modern works. Confuciusmain attribute for a model
government was a model leader that the people could follow and try to mimic. This leader should
be virtuous and a gentleman while studying history and ritual. He explains that one is virtuous If he

Our cities are growing and so is our rate of power consumption. Luckily for us there is an
alternative to traditional HVACsystems. Geothermal technology uses a piping system (commonly
called a loop ) filled with water installed underground that absorbs the heat from solar energy stored
just below the earth s surface [2]. Geothermal HVAC systems differentiate themselves from
common systems as they do not burn fossil fuel to generate heat [3]. They do, however, use
minimal electricity to power the pump to circulate water through the piping system, but compared
to current HVAC methods three to five units of energy are supplied as heat for every one unit used
to power the system. During the summer the system essentially functions in the opposite manner by
absorbing the heat in your home and transferring it back into the earth [4]. In this report the reader

New York Schools Struggle With New Rules Essay
The article, New York Schools Struggle With New Rules to Help Students Learning English, by
Elizabeth A. Harris from the New York Times, documents the current struggle of New York state
public school ESL programs to fully accommodate the immigrant students needs. Overall, the ESL
program is not effective in helping second language students catch up in subjects taught in English.
In addition, the supply and demand is heavily unbalanced. More immigrant students are enrolling
in public schools yet there is a lack of trained ESL teachers available even if the schoolwanted to
hire more or establish more ESL programs. Take Bengali, for example. It is the fourth most
common language among pupils learning English in the city s public schools. But there are only
three bilingual Bengali programs in the schools.
The article points out several main problems the administration is facing. The first is the obvious
low funding due to the insufficient attention given to ESL learning as part of the public school
education. Ms. DeJesus, of the teachers union, said...almost every city school needed to hire one or
two teachers, which would put the numbers required in the thousands. And the new rules came with
very little in the way of resources $1 million for the entire state, which has left schools scrambling.
In addition, there is a lack of qualified, well trained ESL teachers to hire even with enough funding.
However, lack of ESL teachers doesn t just happen overnight. Different

Usually when the company has to go through any kind of changes it faces resistance from the
existing employees, since the fear of the unknown is one of the most common types of the
resistance of change. Corporate R D engineers were worried by the fact that some young students,
who were coming to the company and doing something innovative and revolutionary and change
the already existing structure and even eliminate the jobs that already exist in the corporate R D.
5. How might Plattner have used Lewin s and Kotter s models of change to increase the probability
of achieving positive organizational change? Provide specific recommendations.
Lewin s change model is consisting of three steps: unfreeze, change, refreeze. When Kotter is
suggesting an expanded version, which consists of eight steps model, where steps one to four are
representing the unfreezing, steps five to seven represent changing and the last eighth step stands
for refreezing.
If Plattner has involved the corporate R D and let them take part in creating the change and has
created the cross functional, cross level groups of people, who were strong enough to lead the
change and has tried more in selling his idea to the SAP and the corporate engineers, the
unfreezing stage would have been better facilitated. Also these actions would have reduced the

The Importance Of Landfills
The population has grown immensely within the last hundred years. Along with population growth
is the increase of production and trash. In the later years, most people threw their trash wherever
they wanted until they realized that they were killing our environment. So we evolved to having
legal landfills. Unfortunately, landfills are changing surrounding areas and polluting our space.
Landfills has change the earth through landforms, contaminations, and economy. Citizens can
change the way that they collect and distribute trash in a few simple ways.
Landfills change the structure of earth by producing hills. An example of changing landscape
through landfills is Puente Hills. Puente Hills used to be the largest landfill not only in Los
Angeles, California, but also in the United States. Puente Hills grew over 500 feet in just a
minimum of fifty years (Anwar). Fortunately, that landfill officially stopped receiving any kind of
waste products in October of 2013 (Anwar). In order to make the shutdown official, the supervising
engineer of the facility ordered to put five feet of soil on top of the trash in the landfill without
actually disposing any of trash (Anwar). This changed Puente Hills into an even larger mountain
than it was before. Most activists agree with Author Edward Humes, that covering up the landfill
with dirt means that the citizens are not fully comprehending how much garbage they actually
produced over the years, and the damages that comes along with

Research Paper On Keivlar
Properties of Kevlar:
Kevlar is an organic fiber that has both high tensile strength and thermal stability. Tensile strength is
strength in terms of pulling forces. Its high tensile strength comes from its chemical structure.
Kevlar s chemical structure arranges itself in a straight line and form extra hydrogen bonds
between there links. This is depicted in the image below:
The line structure that Kevlar compounds show is called nematic behavior. Nematic behavior just
means that the elements all line up in the same direction. Liquid crystals also demonstrate nematic

The Most Important Contributions Of Scientific Management...
One of the most important activities of human being is managing . The twentieth century saw a rise
of number of new theories in management which gave it a new shape and which are still used in
todays business world. The two main theories were scientific management and the human relation
approach . Scientific managementwas founded by F.W. Taylor which explained the systematic things
of doing things in a cheapest way (Gupta,2016). Scientific managementis the art of knowing exactly
what you want your men to do and then seeing that they do it in the best and cheapest way
(Gupta,2016). The human relationship management was an outcome of the exploits of the
scientific management (Bruce Nyland,2011). Elton mayo noticed the social person and their
centrality in the working environment. Elton mayo s theoryexplained that employees were not only
motivated by the financial reward but also by a range of social factors such as praise and a sense of
belonging.
Everyone may differ in their opinions regarding the significance of theories of management as it is
a subjective opinion and thinking may differ from one individual to another. The employees would
surely prefer human relationship management as it helps to satisfy them socially and increase
productivity by appreciation of work. The employees feel a sense of belonging which keeps them
motivated (mayo,2003). I personally feel that human relationship management can be compared

The Characteristics Of Characters In Homer s The Iliad
To begin with, to work in common means to work together within a community or to not live in
isolation, as opposed to living without any desire or requirement of other people. Consequently,
it is someone whom relies only on their own wits without an oath or pledge into partnership with
or to anyone outside of themselves. Aristotle makes the simile of this type of person to a beast or
god, as neither requires approval from any person, to describe someone that lives a life in this way.
In Homer s book The IliadAchillesappears to portray this description.
A characteristic to point out is that Achilles fought in battle given that he enjoyed fighting. He did
not fight for a nation or for a king. He fought for his own personal reason and that was for the
exhilaration he felt whilst conquering any opponent in a battle. Achilles is adamant and he avows
he has no motive to fight the Trojans given that they have done nothing to offend him that warrants
his wrath (Puchner, et al. 193).
(Puchner, et al. 183) mentions that Achilles rage sets him apart from the rest of humanity which for
him consisted of the Greeks. However, first, he raged against the Trojans and in turn against

Achilles stated publicly to him, You shameless, profiteering excuse for a commander! How are

the Trojans by saying, It s for you, dogface, for your precious pleasure and Menelaus honor that

The World Of The Arab Emirates
Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, is
planning a new megaproject, The Mall of the World. This project will be located in Al Sufouh,
Dubai, which is one of the seven emirates that compose the United Arab Emirates. The United Arab
Emirates is located in the eastern end of the Arabian Peninsula. It also extends part of the Gulf of
Oman and the Persian Gulf on its southern coast. This positioned the country to have bordering
countries such as Saudi Arabia to the southwest, Qatar and Iran in the north, and Oman in the east.
This enhances the United Arab Emiratestrading with neighboring countries which led to a positive
effect on the economy. Yet, the sandy and barren city strives to improve their economic standing
each and every day. With a population of 9.2 million, the country continues to grow and expand to
further their reputation as one of the richest country in the world. One of the most important part
of the United Arab Emirates history is their federation being formed in 1971. Specifically, this
federation had a huge effect on Dubai. In Dubai becoming part of the seven emirates, there was an
increased influence on the city s development and growth. Even as the city saw an influx in
immigrants fleeing from the Lebanese civil war in December 1971, Dubai together with Abu
Dhabi, the capital, and 5 other emirates, formed the United Arab Emirates after the formal protector
of Britain left the Persian Gulf. The country s

Internet based computing is known as cloud computing, where software and hardware resources
provided to the user on demand. Cloud computing is new paradigm that uses dynamically
scalable shared resources e.g. networks, servers, storage, applications and services. It provides
different cloud services through which resources can be swiftly providing and released with
minimum management efforts. In this paper, we aim to pinpoint the types of cloud, services and
difference that shows how effective cloud computing from other paradigm (Grid computing,
Utility computing and Mainframe). Last, we will provide an overview on the various challenges
and risk associated to cloud computing that deserves future research. I. INTRODUCTION Cloud

Black Tar Heroin Epidemic Analysis
One of the only foreseeable problems of truth is the representation of the heroin epidemic as just
that an epidemic. Many people see heroin abuse as a choice which it is, initially and a crime that
should be punished, not necessarily treated. Hopefully, conversations with law enforcement and
medical professionals can provide objective, expert opinions that will balance with firsthand
accounts that the audience can empathize with. This approach will seek to strike a balance between
the personal and the professional to minimize that problem of truth . Supporting assertions with
evidence and expert testimony will put objectivity at the forefront of the documentary.
Much of the documentary will be based around interviews: interviews with ... Show more content

Black Tar Heroin(1999) is perhaps one of the best examples. Black Tar Heroin is an HBO piece
that focuses on the lives of five addicted young people and the poor decisions that arise as a result
of their abuse. While it gives some humanity to the issue of heroin addiction, it does not delve into
the overarching, underlying causes of the heroin problem in the same way that Mistakes on the
Lake will seek to. Mistakes on the Lake will be less of a slice of life piece, though it will
emphasize that anyone can get addicted to heroin. In 2016, the PBS documentary series
Frontline produced a two hour investigative episode called Chasing Heroin that sought to
educate people about addiction and reach the root of the opioid problem. Mistakes on the Lake
will focus more on the stories of individuals, and it will center specifically around the Northern
Ohio region. Chasing Heroin focuses on the big picture , the nation at large. While the issue of
heroin abuse and overdose obviously did not happen overnight, it is still a relatively new issue.
Most of the literature surrounding heroin does not focus on the source of the epidemic and the
real stories of those addicted to it. For the most part, books relating to heroin are fictionalized
accounts like Dopefiend or self help books that seek to help addicts in

Pro Tobacco Advertising
Although tobacco advertisements are banned, people still consume it. The ban started in 1971
and since then has become even more strict on the sponsoring and promotion of tobacco brand
logos. Now, all tobacco ads used, dissuade users from consuming. Advertisements in general can
be obnoxious and tiresome, but they are sometimes necessary for the seller to get their point
across. Ads are either trying to get money from the consumer or driving to change a person s mind
positively. The main reasoning for the creation of advertisements is to persuade the viewer or
audience through the evocation of ethos, pathos, and logos, to have a change of mind about the
product. The ads I chose are both similar, but have different goals towards their audience.... Show

This ad has an emotional appeal to the audience, as the result of both objects is not something
people really look forward to: death. Of course, nobody wants to die, its only human nature.
Looking at this ad, the viewer might start questioning him or herself emotionally, thinking about
the loved ones around them. In the end it will only hurt the people who care for them. A simple
yet powerful logical appeal towards its audience is accomplished ambiguously or dualistically. I
think it questions the viewer or smoker rationally, why they would want a slow and painful death.
The viewer can choose to die quick or slow , either option, you re going to die so you might as
well choose the bullet, a fast and less painful choice. But that is not what it is suggesting, it seems
to be getting at the point that death by either choice is unnecessary and ignorant of the user.
This type of advertisement is selfless in that it seeks to achieve satisfaction from the possibility of
stopping its intended audience from smoking and nothing more. It even asks at the bottom of the
picture if the individual needs help. Following up with a smokeline expresses concern for the
person. In its design, the layout has a depressing background. This gloomy image is possibly
representing what comes along with each deed. A glowing white font captures the viewer s eyes,
but is present to sort of highlight and make it clear that the

Roger Chillingworth Character Analysis
Characters to People Appearance is representative of a character s current state development
along their journey of either growing as a person, or falling back into more feral tendencies that
ultimately destroy their body, soul, or both. Despite what a character may express to the outside
world, their appearance and actions delivers a relatable context of their hidden motives and well
being thus imbuing them with human life. The outward appearance of Roger Chillingworth is one
of the most distinct in the entire novel, even going as far as giving a glance into his future. When
first introduced to Chillingworth, he is a quiet astute individual that is described multiple times as
inquisitive and observant, traits that are red flags for a character searching for something. The
work of Bethany Reid within, Narrative of the Captivity and Redemption of Roger Prynne , reveals
similar sentiment. She starts her observation by noting, [In] Our first view of Roger
Chillingworth... what we first observe about him underscores his mutable nature. (Reid, 46). Roger
s nature starting off the story in this fashion is consistent to his inner motives; he simply wishes to
learn more about Hester and her whereabouts. On the same page, however, it is noted that he has a
slight hunch in his shoulders, a disfigurement of sorts. This disfigurement is our first clue into his
future involvement in the conflict of the story as he becomes more and more disfigured within.

Porphyrin
There are many unique compounds that can be synthesized using methods of chemistry that are
serve as biological importance in the human body. Porphyrins are an example of one of these
compounds and it helps create many substances utilized by the body, like hemoglobin (National
Library of Medicine, 2013). Porphyrin, when it is in its purified form, can be mixed with several
metals to form metalloporphyrins, for example if magnesium s the metal mixed with the
porphyrin it can create chlorophyll (Weldegirma, 2014). An important characteristic to porphyrin
is that it is aromatic and this is determined by utilizing Huckel s rule. Huckel s rule simply uses
two different formulas, 4n+2 and 4n, and the amount of pi electrons present in a compound to
determine if a compound is either aromatic or non aromatic. One must simply count up the
amount of delocalized pi electrons present and if it is satisfied by 4n+2 it is aromatic, but if it
satisfied by 4n then it is nonaromatic. For example, porphyrin has 18 delocalized pi electrons, it
cannot be nonaromatic because if one... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A possible explanation for a low percent yield is that the starting materials did not completely react
with each other meaning that the reaction did not produce the full amount of product possible,
which could be avoided by allowing the reflux to continue for more time. For copper
tetraphenylporphyrin the theoretical yield was 0.023g and the actual was 0.0274g, making the
percent yield 118%. Possible explanation for a large percent yield could have been due to the
product not being completely dry when being weighed or the presents of contaminates in the final
product. A TLC was conducted during the synthesis of tetraphenylporphyrin; this is useful in
monitoring the progression of the reaction because it helps identify what is present in the reaction

The Declarative Process Model
to create an infographic with the keywords Declarative process model . Background information
about this topic The constraint based approach in business process management regards pro
cesses not as imperative, but as declarative models. Traditional process modeling languages work
with models of the imperative approach. Imper ative process modeling defines that processes
must be executed strictly in the course they have been specified, i. e. activities need to be
performed in exactly in the form of the predefined model. Any change in execution or omitting of
activities is prohibited by this means. This is why imperative process model fall into the trap of
being over specified sometimes. However, not all processes need an exact representation of the
control flow, such as informal processes. On the contrary to the traditional imperative approach, the
declarative process model is more flexible and in this model, are no strict... Show more content on

A lot of the time there is an infinite number of possible executions in a process model allowed.
This allows peo ple to choose from a high number of possibilities that satisfy the model, to pick the
activity which fits the process best. In Declare the constraints are based on templates. These
constraints are graphical representations of LTL (linear temporal logic) semantics. With this
graphical representation declare templates are understandable people even if they are no experts in
logic. [6] The constraint templates of Declare can be divided into four groups: 1) Ex istence
constraints, 2) Relation constraints, 3) Mutual relation constraints, 4) negation constraints
Existence constraints can define how often an activity is allowed to be repeated and can specify a
particular position for an activity. Existence con straints only refer to one single activity, whereas
relation constraints and negation constraints refer to more than one

Bell Jar Depression
While it is sad, it is interesting to see how depression can slowly break down an individual to
someone who feels nothing but apathy. For people who struggle with the illness, no happy
thoughts can changed how they perceive the life and the world around them. It s not as easy as
getting a massage or thinking happy thoughts to change their mood and take away all that sadness,
emptiness, and all that negative self talk. The Bell Jar is a contemplation of the despairing life of
Esther Greenwood and her descent into darkness. She personifies the actual mental struggle and the
tumultuous life of the author, Sylvia Plath who, at a very young age suffered from clinical
depression. While many believed that Bell Jar in this novel symbolizes the... Show more content on

Story Of An Hour Disillusionment Essay
Disillusionment is the feeling of disappointment resulting from the discovery that something is not
as good as one believed it to be. The Story of an Hour by Kate Chopin and Hills like White
Elephants by Ernest Hemingway are both short stories of woman protagonists in oppressed
relationships. In one of the stories, the womanrealizes the oppression in her marriage. While in the
other story, the protagonist is facing towards the oppression. A woman can be oppressed in a
marriage in many different ways, such as not having their own independence. In The Story of an

mentioned that the girl s nickname is Jig , which indicates that the two characters are dancing
around each other and the issue at hand without saying anything meaningful. In The Story of an

marriage that robs people of all their independence.
The epiphany in The Story of an Hour is Louise s realization of the freedom she will now

Janis Ian Literary Devices
In the excerpt we got to hear about Janis Ian s experience, about how much hate she got during
her concert in 1960th. People yelled words like Nigger lover at her. It was hard to accept the
black people in the 60 s people didn t like her song, because of the interracial relationship was
considered as an outrageous thing. Her style of writing bears on her way of thinking. It is very
personal and gets influenced by her thoughts. She seems trustworthy because of her utilize of
credibility in the way she speaks to the reader, and also her knowledge as she had experience it
on her own, which is ethos. Janis also appeals to pathos; she writes for instance I could feel tears

themselves. She also uses anaphors and repetitions which magnifies her message and enhance
her opinions Yes, I was going to stand for that Of course I was going to stand for it The intention
behind this story must be the moral of it. The theme is to believe in yourself and stand by your
principles. Even though she feels everything is against her, she decided to go back and sing
even though she didn t want to. She had something in her, that was more important than to be
scared, and that was to be a hero, a hero for herself because heroism was something she had in her

  • 2. Compare And Contrast The San Francisco Earthquake Earthquakes are terrible, heartbreaking events. Being caught in one could turn the whole world as you know it, upside down. The San Francisco Earthquake of 1906 went down in history as one of the most deathifying, tragic earthquakes of all time. The main character in the fictional novel Dragonwings describes this earthquakeas he lives through it. The main character, Moon Shadow, can only describe the earthquake to a certain point, whereas a factual short story called The Great 1906 Earthquake and Fires of San Francisco , can provide a much broader span of information. While both stories give valid data about this natural disaster, the two stories are very different and provide various points of view about The San Francisco Earthquake. Moon ... • 3. Airport Security Research Paper Many years ago airport security was not even an issue. People felt secure and safe and rarely worried about being searched. As time went on, the prevealance of terrorism became an increasing issue. There began more acts of terrorism by threatening and holding hostages on board commercial planes. As these acts continued, the government as well as citizens became vulnerable and an airport safety procedure was implemented as a way to ensure the safety of the United States. The implemented procedures over the years included a check and scan of all carry on and checked baggage, body scans, hire government airport employees, and a strict list of carry on items. This made travelers feel safer as it decreased the ability of terrorist to commit... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thirty years ago, a man named Martin Annis invented a fully body X ray scanner (Nickisch). After 9/11 and a few terrorist s attacks, airports finally became interested in this scanner. The person behind the push for heightened security is Michael Chertoff, the head of the Department Homeland Security (Nickisch). Today he is the cofounder of the Chertoff group, which is a risk management and security consulting company and is one of the biggest manufactures of body imaging screening machines (Nickisch). Michael Chertoff represents some of the manufactures that make this technology. So perhaps his interests in body scanners and security is not just about protecting the American people. He seems to be abusing his relationship with the public by pretending to be a public servant and how these scanners are going to make us safer. He stands to benefit because he is getting paid by the manufacturing companies to go all over the television network saying these scanners are the solution to security. Flying now is even more bothersome then ever before with the new procedures after 9/11. These body scanners became nicknamed Nude o scopes for the intrusive naked pictures they create. These body scanners see through clothes but not through the body itself, leaving the possibility for some to hidemalicious items internally. I am sure there are ways around this system to try and detonate bombs during the flights. Do they really need to go so far as to be looking at pictures of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Analysis Of Snow Country Snow Country is a novel written by Japanese writer Yasunari Kawabata. This romantic fictional novel is about a rich man named Shimamura, who travels to a remote mountain area for a retreat and ends up meeting a woman named Komako who later becomes a geisha and Yoko who does not really appear as much but has a huge influence on Shimamura. Komako begins to fall in love with Shimamura, and an affair starts to blossom between Shimamura and , but this ends in a disaster due to Shimamura s apathetic character. Snow country is a medium of escapism both as a place and also, emotionally due to the fact that it is a recreational retreat far away from the commotion of the city. Psychologically, Snow country offers a sense of escape because of its seclusion from the fast moving activities of Tokyo. Its seclusion from the city offers a sense of serenity for those who visits. Snow country is a place where these individuals get to experience something different from the dull daily routines in the city. Shimamura s venture is an evident example, his journey to Snow country gives him a sense of freedom from his dull daily activities. Komako s remark about Tokyo residents gives one an idea of how life is in Tokyo as it reads: They live in such noise and confusion that their feelings are broken to little bits (118).People in Tokyo are like robots they are all detached from their feelings due to the many activities in the city these people do not have the time to calm down and reflect on one s life. Just like the people in the city, Shimamura is like a robot. The man is an empty soul in search of something new and exciting to fill up the void in his soul, and Snow country offers that psychological freedom from Tokyo. Just to reiterate, Snow country s location is symbolic to the disparity between the city and nature, from the dirty carbon filled air to the natural fresh air from the forests. Snow country s isolation from the modern world is a form of loneliness and this loneliness is symbolic of Shimamura and Komako. It is just as Komako confirms, people in Tokyo live in noise and confusion that their soul are broken into little bits. Shimamura s apathetic character makes him lonesome and this void ... • 5. Comparison of Las Meninas and Arnolfini Double Portrait... Two of the most extensively analyzed works of art are Diego Velasquez s Las Meninas and Jan Van Eyck s Arnolfini Double Portrait. Both of these artist s talent won them recognition not only during their lifetime but after as well. Both Velasquez and Van Eyck have a justly earned title as the most talented artists of their respective times. A detailed examination of the details and intricacies of these artist s respective masterpieces, their similarities, and what sets them apart not just from each other but from other paintings from their time period and style, will lead the viewer to a better understanding of the mentalities of these gifted artists and how they transcend their respective genres and contemporaries to create their own... The couple s outfits are thick and even have fur, although the painting suggests that it is spring or summer, due to the amount of sunlight entering from the window and the fresh oranges (most oranges are harvest during the spring). The furniture and the drapery is impressive, and the oranges themselves are rare and are therefore a symbol of wealth. The painting also illustrates the relationship between the two subjects through various objects. The painting suggests that the subjects are married. There is a dog in between the couple, which represents loyalty. Both characters have rings on their ring fingers, which suggests that they are both married. Also, the painting shows that both characters have removed their shoes, which implies that they are standing on holy ground, such as Moses was when speaking to god through a burning bush in the bible. The reason they are on holy ground is because a holy ceremony has taken place, that is, a wedding. Notice the characters body language is composed of the dominant husband and the submissive wife. There is also various references to the newlywed couple s intentions of starting a family. Not only does the wife s attire exaggerate her belly, making her seem as if she were pregnant, but behind here there is a statue of Saint Margaret, the saint of childbirth and fertility. When the individual objects of this painting are viewed as a whole, the message becomes clear. Jan van ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Why Is Feudalism Important In The Middle Ages In our society, we believe money is the key facet for power, however, in the medieval ages, money barely had any value compared to land. Feudalism was a political, economic and social system which organized the government by using land. The manor was a key aspect of feudalism because it was where the feudal levels worked together to improve the economy. One of these feudal levels contained the shepherd, who was an important role in the manor as he helped feudalisms ability to meet its people s needs. Feudalism allowed for military to protect the culture of its people, and without the shepherd, the whole system would have collapsed (Biel 9). It helped the European empire rise from the dark ages, making the empire civilized. Charlemagne, a Frankish King who reigned for about half a century, used feudalism as a base for building his empire by establishing a central government (Biel 20). The key to be successful in the feudal system was land, and the fiefs would be given based off of loyalty. During the Medieval times, the people who owned land had power. Land provided the possibility to gain military and political power (Nardo 14). Because of this, the feudal system evolved to become a political tool to gain land and power. There are 3 main levels in this system, that depend on each other to get what they need and contribute to others. Firstly, the king, who gave fiefs in exchange for an army to protect his empire. Within each of the theorists preferred model of theory, their basis for conducting research is to examine how individuals and their behaviors influence the environment. As evident by the available literature, each theorist uses modern organizational studiesin order to understand, control, predict, and explain some phenomenon based on a particular need. In the 1900s, theories were formulated around production and economic goals. In the 1960 and 70s, theories were heavily influenced by social psychology and quantitative research and in the 1980s, literature then expanded to providing cultural explanations of organizations with influences from psychology, sociologyand anthropology, shifting from quantitative to qualitative research as an acceptable method for conducting research. The vast literature on organizational theory demonstrates that while there is no single way to structure an organization, there are some commonly accepted general principles that can be identified. For this particular literature review, my topic will focus primarily on the variation of productivity and its influence in organizational theory as it relates to participant involvement, motivation and decision making. Michael Oher s journey began as he grew up in the ghettos of Memphis, Tennessee along with eleven half siblings. In fact, I watched a special last night where Diane Sawyer exposes the startling working middle class struggle in America. The show followed several middle class Americans struggling to support their families and trying to make ends meet. The recent economic struggles have seen the layoffof several employees in companies and even some in public service. It is, however, significant to realize that since every business and or sector is different, there must be various criteria used when laying off employees. The general rule is that it must be justified and fairness considered across the board. You would apply organizational planning, theories of human motivation,... The focus for layoff would be in certain job positions like secretary or assistant. Laying off individual police Captain s secretaries might not be a popular decision and could cause more work for some of the departmental leaders, but that would be the first resource to lose. That means if there are five secretaries or assistants, I will lay off four of them and leave only one. Making that position for the entire department and not just one indivdual. I would eliminate the position of office messenger because most of the communications happen online and most departments have Wi Fi. Another thought is to offer and early retirement option. Early retirement could hopefully generate some stimulus, and it may be able to get at least three to four officers to retire early. Offering early retirement can identify persons willing to take retirement and give them a retirement package with full benefits (George, 2003). Having been based in the southwestern area since 1978, she began to notice the increase in border security and checkpoints. In 1994, her essay, The Border Patrol State, was published in The Nation magazine. In it, she explains her concerns and criticisms for the development and enforcement of the US Mexican border, arguing that it is an infringement on the free right to travel. She backs these arguments up with a series of anecdotal accounts and experiences, using few statistical evidence. As a result, Silko s essay becomes very powerful pathos wise, but weak when it comes to logos and ethos. Silko s audience seems to be targeted at people who would likely or ... In the story, she and her companion were on their way home from a book promotion. This creates credibility by establishing her as a well known author. At some point, they come up to a checkpoint where they are confronted by some border patrol officers. During the confrontation, she begins to get a feeling of menace from them liking them to Argentine police during Argentina s dirty war. This comparison helps push her argument on the infringement of rights by comparing border patrol actions to the oppressive actions of the Argentine police. It also allows readers who have gone through similar experiences to relate or affirm their feelings. During the confrontation, the border patrol officers bring in a dog to check for illegal substances or immigrants. She described the dog as a small female German shepherd which was treated very roughly by the border patrol officers. This use of diction paints the dog as a victim of sorts to the border patrol officer s brutish actions. This acts as an appeal to emotion, allowing readers to sympathize with the dog. The dog is first brought to the vehicle to check, but shows no interest. During the search she describes the dog as resistant and showing contempt for the officers. Rain was to be expected. As it always rained in Lofter. And the rain would saturate the mire, which stretched on for miles. I remember my arrival to the villageof Lofter. Even after all these years. As it s dismal appearance would be a precursor of the things to come. All of which I shall share with you in due course. But first, I must bring into light a few essential factors that, though seemingly irrelevant, lead to the final outcome of this tale. And though those of you, with severely practical minds, may find the story of which I am about to relate highly improbable. I beg of thee, pay heed. For not everything of importance is visible to the human eye. You must accept that this ancient world in which we live can be a strange and uncanny one. Just as the mire where mysteries, the villagers say, sleep undisturbed. Hitherto, I had looked upon my situation in a skeptical manner. Let this story be a warning then for those of you who should one day wish to visit Lofter and lay eye upon the mire for yourselves. And so my dear readers, with no further delay, I ll begin this tale with my arrival to the village of Lofter. In the first decade of the 1900s, I think the most serious problem was the high levels of poverty among the American people (Barnes Bowles, 2014). Though there was racial, discrimination that time, it is evident that the Americans discriminated each other in through the industrial capitalist power. Why was this problem more serious than the other problems? The working conditions that time were extreme. The working environments were unsafe; on the other hand, they were unsanitary ones. More often, they created incidents that raised the public concerns (Barnes Bowles, 2014). Employers hired children and women so that they can save by paying fewer wage. Individuals ... • 23. Basic Types Of Price Discrimination Price discrimination is defined as charging customers a different price for the same product. One major factor of price discrimination is elasticity of demand. Elasticity of demand measures the percentage of change in quantity to percentage of change in price. If the percent of change is greater than one, it is elastic. On the other hand, if the percentage of change is less than one, it is inelastic. For customers who are not pricesensitive, or the demand is elastic, when using price discrimination, the price would rise. The price would be lower for customers who respond more to changes in price, or the demand is elastic. Whenever price discriminationis possible, it can be highly profitable for a business. Further, there are three different types of price discrimination. First degree price discrimination, otherwise known as perfect price discrimination, is when a firm charges every customer exactly how much they are willing to pay for that good and charges a different price for every unit consumed. Some examples include car sales and roadside sellers of fruit and produce. Next, second degree price discrimination is when firms discriminate though volume discounts. This is when a firm charges a different price for different qualities and allows buyers to purchase a higher inventory at a reduced price. An example of this would be quantity discounts for bulk purchases. While benefiting the high inventory buyers, it can hurt the low inventory buyer who is forced to pay a ... Lao tzu explains that people function best under a wise, distant ruler, and he believes that a peaceful society is one where the people are happy. An ideal leader would never be able to rejoice after a victory, because the death of an enemy is still a tragedy. Lao tzu believes that violence will always be followed by violence, and that the act of war itself is not virtuous. He believes that it is ideal to have no enemies. Compromise is often favorable to violence. A war is only as good as the intentions behind fighting it. When leaders start wars with selfish motives, they are resisting the natural order of the universe. These are hard questions to answer, but there have been a few key figures in history who have tried to answer them. Among the earliest texts on this topic, Confucius Analects give some key insights into the topic. He seems to think the key to this perfect government is for the leader and the people to be a gentleman . Plato brings a more detailed view on the topic with his The Republic. He decides that the key is to have everyone specialized in the job they have the most aptitude in. Then comes Machiavelli and his The Prince, with his seemingly pessimistic view on life, to give stricter rules for the leader to follow. He says to always be prepared in war and to put up a faГ§ade of virtuewhile doing what needs to be done in the background. Once someone takes all three of these texts into context, they can begin to form a picture how ancient and even modern governments are and have been run. Although, one has to keep in mind that each of these men also thought they had the definite answer to this perfect society, so keep studying their and even more modern works. • 37. Research Paper On Keivlar Properties of Kevlar: Kevlar is an organic fiber that has both high tensile strength and thermal stability. Tensile strength is strength in terms of pulling forces. Its high tensile strength comes from its chemical structure. Kevlar s chemical structure arranges itself in a straight line and form extra hydrogen bonds between there links. This is depicted in the image below: The line structure that Kevlar compounds show is called nematic behavior. Nematic behavior just means that the elements all line up in the same direction. Liquid crystals also demonstrate nematic behavior and it is due to this that Kevlar is so strong. While Kevlar does demonstrate high tensile strength, it lacks compressive strength. However, it is important to note that Kevlar does have its limits when it comes to protection from ballistics. The cost of the International Space Station alone has been estimated to cost about $142 billion (Thompson). Due to high costs, people question why money is being put toward space explorationwhen there are large amounts of human suffering on Earth. It seems as though putting even a small fraction of the money that is used to support space programs and exploration towards aid to areas and countries that are suffering would solve many problems. • 39. The Most Important Contributions Of Scientific Management... One of the most important activities of human being is managing . The twentieth century saw a rise of number of new theories in management which gave it a new shape and which are still used in todays business world. The two main theories were scientific management and the human relation approach . Scientific managementwas founded by F.W. Taylor which explained the systematic things of doing things in a cheapest way (Gupta,2016). Scientific managementis the art of knowing exactly what you want your men to do and then seeing that they do it in the best and cheapest way (Gupta,2016). The human relationship management was an outcome of the exploits of the scientific management (Bruce Nyland,2011). Elton mayo noticed the social person and their centrality in the working environment. Elton mayo s theoryexplained that employees were not only motivated by the financial reward but also by a range of social factors such as praise and a sense of belonging. Everyone may differ in their opinions regarding the significance of theories of management as it is a subjective opinion and thinking may differ from one individual to another. The employees would surely prefer human relationship management as it helps to satisfy them socially and increase productivity by appreciation of work. The employees feel a sense of belonging which keeps them motivated (mayo,2003). I personally feel that human relationship management can be compared better to scientific management only on the ... The Characteristics Of Characters In Homer s The Iliad To begin with, to work in common means to work together within a community or to not live in isolation, as opposed to living without any desire or requirement of other people. Consequently, it is someone whom relies only on their own wits without an oath or pledge into partnership with or to anyone outside of themselves. Aristotle makes the simile of this type of person to a beast or god, as neither requires approval from any person, to describe someone that lives a life in this way. In Homer s book The IliadAchillesappears to portray this description. A characteristic to point out is that Achilles fought in battle given that he enjoyed fighting. He did not fight for a nation or for a king. He fought for his own personal reason and that was for the exhilaration he felt whilst conquering any opponent in a battle. Achilles is adamant and he avows he has no motive to fight the Trojans given that they have done nothing to offend him that warrants his wrath (Puchner, et al. 193). (Puchner, et al. 183) mentions that Achilles rage sets him apart from the rest of humanity which for him consisted of the Greeks. However, first, he raged against the Trojans and in turn against Agamemnon; thus, raging inadvertently against the Greeks. In his contempt for Agamemnon, Achilles stated publicly to him, You shameless, profiteering excuse for a commander! How are you going to get any Greek warrior to follow you into battle again? later on, he reinforced his feelings for Agamemnon s motives, for all to hear, as to why he brought on the attacks toward the Trojans by saying, It s for you, dogface, for your precious pleasure and Menelaus honor that we came here, a fact you don t have the decency even to mention! (Puchner, et al. 193). Pallas Athena intervened Achille s murderous thoughts and convinced him to not strike out at Agamemnon, which resulted in him bursting out, You bloated drunk, with a dog s eyes and a rabbit s heart! Ads are either trying to get money from the consumer or driving to change a person s mind positively. This ad has an emotional appeal to the audience, as the result of both objects is not something people really look forward to: death. Of course, nobody wants to die, its only human nature. Looking at this ad, the viewer might start questioning him or herself emotionally, thinking about the loved ones around them. In the end it will only hurt the people who care for them. A simple yet powerful logical appeal towards its audience is accomplished ambiguously or dualistically. I think it questions the viewer or smoker rationally, why they would want a slow and painful death. The viewer can choose to die quick or slow , either option, you re going to die so you might as well choose the bullet, a fast and less painful choice. But that is not what it is suggesting, it seems to be getting at the point that death by either choice is unnecessary and ignorant of the user. This type of advertisement is selfless in that it seeks to achieve satisfaction from the possibility of stopping its intended audience from smoking and nothing more. It even asks at the bottom of the picture if the individual needs help. Following up with a smokeline expresses concern for the person. In its design, the layout has a depressing background. The outward appearance of Roger Chillingworth is one of the most distinct in the entire novel, even going as far as giving a glance into his future. When first introduced to Chillingworth, he is a quiet astute individual that is described multiple times as inquisitive and observant, traits that are red flags for a character searching for something. The work of Bethany Reid within, Narrative of the Captivity and Redemption of Roger Prynne , reveals similar sentiment. Porphyrins are an example of one of these compounds and it helps create many substances utilized by the body, like hemoglobin (National Library of Medicine, 2013). Porphyrin, when it is in its purified form, can be mixed with several metals to form metalloporphyrins, for example if magnesium s the metal mixed with the porphyrin it can create chlorophyll (Weldegirma, 2014). An important characteristic to porphyrin is that it is aromatic and this is determined by utilizing Huckel s rule. Huckel s rule simply uses two different formulas, 4n+2 and 4n, and the amount of pi electrons present in a compound to determine if a compound is either aromatic or non aromatic. One must simply count up the amount of delocalized pi electrons present and if it is satisfied by 4n+2 it is aromatic, but if it satisfied by 4n then it is nonaromatic. Background information about this topic The constraint based approach in business process management regards pro cesses not as imperative, but as declarative models. Traditional process modeling languages work with models of the imperative approach. Imper ative process modeling defines that processes must be executed strictly in the course they have been specified, i. e. activities need to be performed in exactly in the form of the predefined model. Any change in execution or omitting of activities is prohibited by this means. This is why imperative process model fall into the trap of being over specified sometimes.
