Domestic violence affects a significant portion of the population. Approximately 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men will experience domestic violence in their lifetime. It accounts for 16% of violent crimes but is severely underreported. Survivors often suffer long-term mental health effects like depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder long after leaving an abusive situation. Emotional abuse can be even more damaging than physical abuse and may take longer to recover from.
