2. Mise-on-scene
The short campaign film uses a lot of props, settings, costumes, make up, movements and visual effects. At the start of short film we
can see costumes like birthday dress or suits, that let us see normal girls birthday. They also used props at the start like birthday cake
with a lot of colourful candles.
In a next second we can see the same girl with school uniform and props like ice cream. In the background we can see her mother
making food in the kitchen this reinforces about normal girls life and shows families routine.
However in the next couple of moments we can still see happy girl playing with her mothers lipstick and hat. The girl looks happy and
interested in staff that she's doing that represents that this girl is ordinary British girl just making the most of her childhood.
In the couple of seconds we can see girl playing in the park with her dad that shows us how close this family is and the big love from
parents to the child.
In a couple of moments we can see lightening changed to light key in low key lighting that represents that something is about to
happen and that mode is about to change.
The next cut begins at home we can see props like TV and toys, however girls mother looks really worried watching TV and girl
ignores everything around her and plays with her toys.
The action comes to the place were we can see suitcases, bags, car and girl with uniform that shows us that family is leaving
somewhere also girl looks a bit confused about what's happening. In the next couple of seconds we can see dark location so it let us
think that is families house but electricity is cut-off so they use a lot of candles, the costumes are just casual home clothes.
The next cut shows the girl with school uniform and her mothers hands giving medicines for girl, that shows us that girl feels unwell
and it can be that she's sick. In the next scene location changed from the house to the car, girl is holding teddy bear and have cookie
in her hands. The girls hair is messy and she's dirty and have bruises everywhere around her face.
In the next scene we can see girl with mask to protect here from the smoke and her mother in the background helping her. The
costumes are hats and coats that explains us that it’s cold outside.
The next cut is in the hospital, we can see props like doctors equipment's, glasses and gloves. The girl wears hospital band this shows
us that girl is most likely ill.
The Last scenes starts the same as a first scene but this time girl is in the hospital and she's not happy like her last birthday. The girls
mother holds plate with little cake and one candle in it. This shows us that year went from the first scene and how everything
changed.
3. Camerawork
• The short campaigning film use a lot of camera work in different scenes. However the
camera use a lot of eye line match angle, the reason they use this angle is that
audience would connect with the girl and watch girls emotions. The film also use
close ups which are really effective to show emotions and let the audience feel the
same as a little girl. In this case the film use close up to show how girl feels about
events happening around her that lets the audience feel the same devastation like in
the film. The film also use shallow focus which is when camera focus on one thing
and background is blurry. In this case they use shallow focus is to show how girl sees
world around her so we can see that girl is playing with toys and in background is TV
witch showing news. The title in the news says “hundreds dead” but girl don’t give
attention so that shows how girl fells about events around her.
4. Sound
• In the short campaign film they used sound effects like diegetic, post-
synchronised radio and TV sound in scenes. They used radio ant TV
diegetic sounds in a background to inform audience about events
that happening in the short film. They also used dialogs in a
background which was arguments. That let audience feel that family
have some problems and something bad is coming. The non-diegetic
sounds of helicopters, planes, shooting and bombing was also used
to connote war.
5. Editing
• The short film used editing like fades. The fade was used after a last scene so it showed that
short film just finished. However after the fade slogan came on the screen with hashtag and
logo. The slogans lets audience remember the company also as logos. The most used editing
in short film is cutting. The cutting rate is fast it's every second. The every second of a cut
represents a day of girls life. They also used jump cuts to show the difference between the
scenes from happy family to fear and devastation, the similar shots was also used. However
editing also use SFX which is special effects, they are used in scene with bomb . The special
effect in this short campaign makes film more realistic.
