The Importance Of Persistence In Life In DArthur
John Howard and Sasha Grey have once said "The Capacity to reach achievable answers to a
difficult issue. But, sometimes you needed to analyze the situation." Additionally, Arthur had to trust
himself to motive that he will be able to make it. Not knowing it was going to be a king or not. Life
always works with persistence or will disappear throughout time. Learning to become right and
wrong with the decision humidity makes. In the section sword of the stone by Thomas Malory's
D'Arthur how persistence can be given in life? Or will it be always necessary to have it? How it will
repeat itself and until it can be changed. Arthur, Sir Ector, Sir Kay, Archbishop and the nobles how
they are given the test of Arthur being the rightful king. Prove himself, Commoners said the final
word, the nobles begged forgiveness, and Arthur swore to be a great king. Throughout the obstacles
in life that are also in the modern life. Central theme in the section Sword in the Stone is Persistence
is necessary to achieve difficult / Impossible good. Arthur proves to Sir–Kay, Sir Ector, and
Archbishop that he was able to remove the sword. They wanted to see it with their very own eyes
that he pull it. Sir Kay and Sir Ector rode back to the churchyard where the stone was supposed to
be at and relive that Arthur did pull it with no hesitation. The three of the men went to visit the
Archbishop and told them what had happened. They protested against him for being young and
having a low position

The Persistence of Temperament and Personality.
12. October. 2015
Abstract
This paper will explore the topic of temperament and personality in developmental psychology. I
will provide definitions, statistics and examples to explain what temperament is then following what
personality is. After drawing the connection between temperament and personality I will conclude
that although temperament is the building block to what results a person's personality it does not
mean personality is unchangeable.
The Persistence of Temperament and Personality
According to data collected in 2013 by The National Institute of Mental Health ,forty–eight million
adults of age eighteen and older were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However there is a difference according to Developmental Psychology between the personality you
have in the present and the temperament you were both born with and developed in childhood. One
question posed by Developmental Psychology is: to what extent does a person's temperament
developed in childhood affect their personality in adulthood (Keniston, A., & Peden, B. (1995).
Although temperament is the building block for the personality of the person it does not have
complete control over what the developing personality will be. Temperament can be defined through
both a biological perspective and through an environmental perspective. The Psychology and
Neuroscience Department of The University of Colorado Temperament defines temperament as the
differences in both emotional and motor reactions and self–regulation techniques that remain
consistent over time and through various situations. For example temperament can be expressed in a
person through their personal coping techniques and in their emotional reactions that stay the same
over time. Biologically temperament is defined as the neurological and hormonal factors passed
down through inheritance that affects ones response to the environment. Environmental
Temperament is how one responds to the environment that has been shaped by how a parent
modulates and responds to the child in infancy. From these definitions we can

Persistence And Compassion In Hamlet
Never have I ever considered that Hamlet, a classic literary piece, would play a pivotal role in my
life. I have to admit that the challenges put forth in preparation of the performance are formidable.
Nevertheless, they do not undermine, but rather accentuate my growing alter egos: persistence and
compassion. Struggles pierced in all sorts of forms over the period of analyzing Hamlet. However, I
am determined to achieve this full revolutionary literary experience because my persistence,
partially strengthened from incessantly focusing on a sole character (Ophelia) throughout the play,
enables me to push my limits, sharpening my eagerness to seize the knowledge of the world beyond.
It is true that hard work contributes to rewards reflective ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

I pondered over the thought of how ultimately, we are all that we have. It all depends on the
individual and only he himself has the full right to exercise his conscience, power, will to break
away from the matters dragging him. One's loved ones would perhaps be present to hold one's hand
in times of need, but they won't be able to understand first–hand on how much one has gone
through. Another contemplation is that of how selfish desires consume the creator and poison
surrounding relationships. A person may begin to adopt materialism, but exhibits those qualities
without that person knowing he/she possesses them. Individuals let their inner selves succumb to
these ideal visions because they are blinded by the fact that getting hold of something signifies more
benefits or control, which on the other hand suppresses the latter. Imagine if the world is profoundly
aware that each person only has himself or herself in the end. In this type of society, loneliness and
pessimism would surely disseminate. Internally, people would start to secretly engender egocentric
desires and would act on impulse because they have learned that eventually, the choices the person
makes only affects that individual. Perchance, there would be an emergence of social groups,
engaging people with activities that remind them to surround themselves with positivity, which
could influence their decision–making. Therefore, if

Benefits Of A Online Business
Persistence is a prerequisite to success in online business. There is no way you can make money
online if you are not persistent. Training yourself to become persistent, despite all eventualities, is
one important factor that you need to learn right from the day you venture into online business. It
should be understood right from the start that making money online takes time. Do not be fooled by
those scams who promise you heaven and who make you think that you can make thousands of
dollars overnight. To benefit from online business, it 's really dependant upon several factors among
which include skill, knowledge, effort, time, will–power and persistence.
I have observed that most people are longing to earn money online. This is evident in the number of
people that sign up in some of the affiliate programs I promote. However, when you consider those
who persist and become serious online marketers, you get tightlipped. I believe it 's not only with
me. Even other marketers have a similar problem. Do you know why? It 's partly because many
people join hoping to make quick money without necessarily knowing what it takes to succeed in
online business.
Persistence is an unknown secret to most would–be successful people in online business. But it 's
what has turned many online marketers into millionaires. Of course there are other contributing
factors, but persistence plays a pivotal role and is a key ingredient to success in your business. Hard
work and persistence can

The Mark Of The Dragonfly Theme Analysis
Themes are really important in books, and sometimes they can change. Some of the themes in the
novel The Mark of the Dragonfly are: when difficult things happen, you have to get through them, if
you put your mind and effort into what you are doing you will accomplish it, and, always persist no
matter how hard the challenge is. I will explain how they change over time and how they are
different. A theme that occurred towards the beginning of the novel is 'When difficult things happen,
you have to get through them.' An example is Piper's dad died and she had no say in it whatsoever.
"He sent letters and money every week until about a year ago, when he died."(Page 66). This shows
that even if Piper wanted to or did not want to accept her dad's death, she had to either way. She had
to persist and accept that she had no one but herself. Another example is when Micah got hit on the
head with some caravan debris. Piper noticed that Micah got hit in the head and that he was
bleeding, Piper was not going to just stand there and cry for Micah. Piper got up and tried looking
for help. This shows that Piper put everything aside and was not going to stop for anything until she
got help for Micah. Another example is Piper needed a way for Anna to get to Noveen, so Piper and
Anna broke into the train. "It's still here.' Gasping, Piper skidded to a stop and changed directions,
heading for the station.'Come on, we're getting on that train."(Page 78). That shows Piper had a
problem that

The Three Sins Of Persistence
These terms enable us to identify when and why memories might fall short. The three sins of
omission are situations that most people can relate to which just goes to show how difficult it
sometimes can be to remember the simplest of things. Each sin plays a part in both Fuller and
Conway's memoirs. There are only few places where the authors reveal a sense of uncertainty as to
whether they remember correctly or not; they both express themselves as if they remember
everything they write quite clearly. This makes the reader believe that the authors never experience
Transience, Absent–mindedness or Blocking, which might raise a red flag as no one can remember
everything. However, the authors might easily explain this by saying that they simply did not
include the minor details that they did not remember. Still, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Fuller especially have several traumatic memories that obviously still cause her pain, and because
they will not go away, she can relate them more accurately. Some of Fuller's more traumatic
experiences are the attempted rape of her and her sister, the death of her younger sister, her getting
lost in the forest and the list just goes on. Conway's memories are a bit less severe, but she still lost
most of her family in one way or another, was bullied and discriminated, and such events leave their
mark. Of course, it is important to keep in mind that traumatic memories might actually not be as
accurate as they seem since the involved party might build upon the event over time to better cope
with them or because of guilt. Fuller, for example, blames herself fully for the death of her younger
sister, though she can hardly be blamed. All of Schacter seven sins can give different explanations to
memories' inaccuracy, and as a reader, one has to be aware that no memory is objective as they are
as much a feeling as a recollection affected by so many

Unrealism In Salvador Dalli's The Persistence Of Memory
Art is an application of the human's creative skill and imagination. This can mean many different
things, as art comes in numerous forms. Typically, art is visual. John Berger from Ways of Seeing
began his first chapter stating, "Seeing comes before words. It is seeing which establishes our place
in the surrounding world". Seeing things for ourselves gives a more in depth explanation of life and
what it may truly mean. The artwork that I chose was a painting by surrealist artist, Salvador Dalí,
called The Persistence of Memory. Salvador Dalí incorporates surrealism throughout this entire
painting. In fact, this is one of the most famous paintings for surrealism, as he incorporates much of
the unconscious mind and realms of experience (Totally History). This painting contains several
objects that act as symbolistic meanings, which relates to human life. Stephen Davies and Philip
Alperson from The Philosophy of Art stated, "The bases for artistic features also include relations to
matters outside the work, such as the artist's intentions or conventions of symbolization, and so on".
Throughout the painting one is able to see these symbols in Dalí's incorporation of the melting
clocks, a human figure, and an orange clock covered in ants. There are many interpretations of the
melting clocks in Salvador Dalí's painting. One of the interpretations is that the melting clocks
represent the softness and hardness of different objects. There is a significant contrast between the

Reflection On Nature
I have read several pieces of literature on nature, which has directed me to the understanding on how
nature and I are similar with the ability to adapt, be resilient , and persistence. During large–scale
obstacles that I have had in my life, I was able to adapt, be resilient, and be persistent. Having those
characteristics has pulled me through moving states and schools, coming out as bisexual, and the
loss of my best friend . Moving schools is a very difficile experience that showed how I am capable
of adapting. When I moved to washington from california, I was introduced to many new people
that were extremely different that me. It took a few months but I was still able to adapt to the new
people, just like the pythons did when in the everglades from Andrew Revkins blog. The pythons
and I were capable to adapt to our new environments and strive there. The school in washington was
teaching stuff that I hadn't learned yet in california. When I entered my math class, they started
talking about factoring and synthetic division. I showed persistence when I spent extra time learning
it at home and by going to tutoring, just like the wind kept savagely blowing everything on land
from Murakami's short story. The wind was persistently blowing furiously just as I had persistently
kept trying to understand the new material I was being taught. Moving schools was very difficult for
me but in the end, I had overcome, and found the new school to be much better. Coming out was an

What Is The Devil's Hole Pupfish?
Evaluating an icon of population persistence: The Devil's Hole pupfish Devil's Hole, located in the
Nevada desert, is a deep, cavern–like geologic formation just east of Death Valley National Park.
The hole is a fissure caused by regional tectonic shifts in the Paleozoic and acts as part of a
subterranean drainage network (Riggs & Deacon, 2002). Though at first glance it seems rather
insignificant, Devil's Hole is the home of one of the most iconic examples of population persistence
in conservation biology: the Devil's Hole pupfish, (Cyprinodon diabolic). The Devil's Hole pupfish
is a small species, measuring between 2 and 3 centimeters. They also exhibit semalparity in their
fairly short existence, breeding just once in their one year lifespan. ... Show more content on

this claim is certainly intriguing, it hasn't been

Janelle's Persistence: Summary
Persistence is a firm continuance in course of action despite difficulty or opposition. In the world of
entrepreneurship and business you can't be weak even if you fail a couple of times. Janelle Shanise
James is the embodiment of this strength and ideology. She prides herself as a mother, beauty lover,
rule breaker, and truth seeker. Make–up has always been Janelle's passion throughout life, but, up
until a few years ago, she had always discounted it as something that girls just play around with.
Although most business owners can look back to a time in their childhood where they were selling
postcards or making a few dollars wiping windows – Janelle admits that she hadn't been grooming
herself for self–employment at a young age. She began ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Spending all this money recklessly forced Janelle to learn a lot on her own. When she decided to
open a website one web developer quoted her an invoice of two–thousand dollars for the project.
Obviously, she couldn't afford it at that time. Instead she chose to seek out the local Barnes & Noble
and picked up WordPress for Dummies the book. From this point on Janelle made the decision to
educate herself about every aspect of her own business, not like she had much of a choice at this
point. This persistence of hers is what kept the business afloat during the roughest times. She now
knew with some research that the makeup market was indeed penetrable and companies like Estée
Lauder did about 50 billion dollars in sales each year. She wanted a slice of that pie. After building
her own website she focused on dialing down her niche. There was much more money in bridal
makeup then just making her friends look cute for a night out on the town. She decided that she
wanted to stand out in this market place. A fine–tuned, and perfected Chocolate & Glitter now hit
the marketplace. Janelle grinded it out and taught herself how to be

Student Success, Persistence, And Support
Student Success, Persistence, and Support
When discussing the extensive body of literature surrounding student involvement, engagement, and
retention, overarching themes begin to emerge. These themes find themselves interwoven
throughout the diverse set of concepts that set the foundation for understanding the theories that are
pertinent to this study. Understanding the concepts of student success, student persistence, and
student social support allows for a deeper consideration of the relevant frameworks.
Student success. There are multiple concepts and aspects of student success that play a role in
understanding how student success impacts involvement and retention. Komives, Owen,

Students learn how they interact in a group setting and what role they are comfortable filling.
In a study surrounding student success and quantity of student involvement, Huang and Chang
(2004) studied whether there was an optimal amount or combination of involvement for a student's
cognitive and emotional growth. Is there always a positive relationship with involvement and
student success, or is there a point when the relationship becomes negative? Astin (1999) claim that
there are upper "limits beyond which increasing involvement ceases to produce desirable result and
can even become counterproductive" (p. 528). Eventually, there is a point where students begin
having their development harmed by their workload and quantity of involvement. Huang and Chang
(2004) assert that an increase in cocurricular involvement does not show a decrease in academic
involvement. Their study shows that more involvement is indeed better, despite Astin's research
claiming the contrary.
Braxton (2006) provides another understanding of student success, concludingded that there are
eight areas that have a significant impact on student success during an undergraduate career.
Academic attainment, the first area, involves multiple factors that play a role in signifying success:
persistence through senior year, cumulative grade point average, and overall academic learning.

Movie Persistence
Persistence & Amorality: The Keys to Success
The film The Founder directed by John Lee Hancock is a business drama released in 2016 that
follows the rise of the McDonald's empire. The film's protagonist, Ray Kroc (Michael Keaton) is a
struggling milkshake machine salesman, who happens upon a revolutionary "fast food" restaurant
during one of his deliveries. He recognizes the potential of McDonald's and strikes a deal with the
two brothers to franchise the company. As the film progresses, Kroc proves persistence is the key
factor to success, as he turns a roadside burger joint into an international multimillion dollar empire.
Ultimately, our capitalistic society and his persistence enabled the unprecedented rise of
McDonald's. Surprisingly, the film has a very serious and dark tone despite the subject matter. While
the film follows Kroc's ascension from struggling salesmen to business mogul which seems very
exciting, it's also a grim examination of society's values. During the film one has an unsettling
feeling as you watch Kroc succeed despite betraying the McDonald brothers, abandoning his wife
and forsaking all morals. Typically, films attempt to convey a moral message, so the audience can
learn from the mistakes of the character. Yet, at no point does Kroc experience an internal conflict or
enlightenment that demonstrates that integrity is more valuable than commercial success. In fact, it's
quite the opposite. Kroc's character development is almost reversed and he

Analysis Of Andrew Sarris 's ' Odyssey '
Andrew Sarris, a renowned film critic, clarified the Auteur Theory to be the notion that "the way a
film looks and moves should have some relationship to the way a director thinks and feels," and that
"good directors express style and theme across their body of work," (Stam 89; Sampson, Lecture
8.2). Although director Jonathan Glazer has a diverse body of work, his personal themes and style
are able to shine through across all visual mediums, thus proving him to be a good director,
according to Andrew Sarris's interpretation of the Auteur Theory. In his "Odyssey" commercial for
Levi Strauss, his music video for "Rabbit in Your Headlights" by Unkle, and his film Birth, the
combination of his themes of persistence and unclear identities, along with his style of capturing
people's faces and use of tracking shots reveals his worldview that human beings are complex and
strong entities. The theme of persistence is prominent among the three mediums. The "Rabbit in
Your Headlights" music video portrays the persistence of a will to survive in a lone man who is
walking on a busy road. Cars keep hitting and knocking him down, but he gets back up every time.
Despite the hits and presumed physical pain, he persists and endures until finally, a car hits him but
he remains standing, and the car suffers more impact. The Levi Strauss commercial portrays a
similar persistence in that the runners, no matter how many walls stand in their way, they break
through them and continue to run. At the

Blind Persistence Essay
The play Othello by William Shakespeare is a portrayal of jealousy and deception. The two
characters Cassio and Roderigo play a vital role throughout the play in portraying Shakespeare's
theme of how ignorance, whether it be words of advice from others or just indications, can lead to
one's downfall. Cassio and Roderigo both play an essential role in showing how being persistent–
ignoring everything that could be signs of warning–to attain what we want is not always the correct
approach.
The first similarity that links Cassio and Roderigo is their attraction towards Desdemona. Cassio's
relationship with Desdemona is really just on a platonic level. However, because of the

(I.i.98), Roderigo still manages to pursue after Desdemona. Roderigo's persistence is one of the
major causes that are responsible for the tragedy in the play. Both Cassio and Roderigo did exactly
opposite of what the Duke advised in Othello, I.iii.199–209; They allowed their desires to take over
them, not realizing that it would've been best if they had not done so. The notable difference
between Cassio and Roderigo is the outcome of their quest and what happens to them. Cassio
realizes that it is more trouble than it's worth asking Desdemona to help him obtain his position
back. Thus, Cassio tells Desdemona to disregard what he had asked of her. Instead of mourning over
the situation, he accepts it because he understands that "To mourn a mischief that is past and gone /
Is the next way to draw new mischief on" (I.iii.204). In doing so, Cassio shows that he is willing to
accept his position and will try and make the best out of what he has got. Roderigo also realizes that
asking Iago to help him attain Desdemona is a lost cause. Roderigo shows that his patience is
draining when he tells Iago "if she will return me my jewels, I will give over my suit and repent my

business owner. It is difficult to find a company that will hire you or to run a successful business
without a college degree. A college student could benefit from persistence in three ways: growth in
self–discipline, good work ethic, and achievement. The first benefit you can gain from persistence is
growth in self–discipline. Self–discipline teaches you how to prioritize your work and figure out

it should come as no surprise to anyone that a majority of the population are aware of their

power comes in the form of real tangible power when we speak of the politicians. Or maybe, it
simply stems, more passively, from the power to influence the masses through digital avenues via

regardless of their specific capabilities, make no mistake, these people exist separate from us, above

In eighth grade, my piano teacher cajoled me into competing in a piano competition. She gave

Not only does the pocket watch have a distinct color but it is also the only hard, non–melting
pocket–watch. The orange pocket–watch, which is being swarmed by ants, represents the anxieties
associated with the concrete perception of time like being late or getting older. Along the same vain,
the orange pocket watch can also represent death and decay as the only factors of life that are not
free of the irrelevancy of time. Dali uses light and shadows to evoke a dreamlike state of perception.
In the background we see two tiny rocks, one in the shadows and one in the light while everything in
the foreground is engulfed in shadow. The only other things that are in the light are the ocean and
the craggy rock structure. Clearly, a majority of the painting is engulfed in shadow. This dichotomy
between light and shadow represents the difference between conscious and unconscious perception,
between certainty and uncertainty. Since a majority of the painting is consumed by shadow, Dali is
implying that humans can barely be certain about their conscious perception. Alternatively, Dali
could be using the light as a symbol of hope and certainty that is largely overwhelmed by the
uncertainty created when humans attempt to fully understand and control their surroundings. The
surrealist movement of the 1920s–1930s was largely based on the notion that excessive rational
thought is a catalyst of conflict and war throughout the world. Salvador Dali's The Persistence

The Persistence of Imperialism Essay
The Persistence of Imperialism
Following World War II, the concrete nature of imperialism, or the subjection of people or groups
based on a social, economical, or racial hierarchy, was seemingly in decline. For instance, India and
Pakistan had both gained their independence from Britain in 1947 (p.761), and the French, though
unwillingly, gave up their colonies in Vietnam (p.754), but with the development of the Cold War
there became a need to ideologically separate the free "First World", which was made up of western
Europe and the United States, from the communist "Second World", which was primarily made up
by the Soviet Union. This separation unintentionally formed yet another hierarchy, and further
perpetuated imperialistic notions. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During this time (1950 – 1968) the United States was undergoing an anticommunist movement
headed by Wisconsin Senator, Joseph McCarthy (Tignor et al., p.770). One of the purposes of this
movement was to inhibit the diffusion of communism to former colonial states such as south
Vietnam, and was the primary reason the U.S. invaded Vietnam. Though the implicit imperial nature
of the invasion eluded U.S. President Johnson, it was quite evident among the countries citizens and
civil rights leaders, such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who noted this repetitious trend in American
values for the past century. In his "Beyond Vietnam" meeting at Riverside Church , New York, Dr.
King took stance that the domestic problems the U.S. was facing was symptomatic of a nature of
persistent suppression of other ideas, races, and cultures. He felt that if the U.S. government could
overcome these maladies, that the civil rights movement, which was in direct opposition domestic
racial imperialism, and the threat of further foreign dispute could be considered a concern of the
past. In this, Dr. King speaks out against the imperialistic nature of suppression, in favor of peaceful
acceptance. The United States and other former colonizers were not the only culprits in perpetuating
imperialistic tendencies during this Cold War dichotomous context. The newly

Unrealism In Salvador Dali's The Persistence Of Memory
In art, the details and elements involved help create meaning. Without the elements of art, people
could not interpret the meaning of the artwork. The painting called "The Persistence of Memory,"
created by Salvador Dali, uses shapes, background, lines, focal point, eye movement, texture, and
value to make the statement: Time will melt away eventually no matter what happens. The
importance of "The Persistence of Memory" stems from the history of Salvador Dali and the 1930s.
For example, the artwork demonstrates Einsteins' special relativity theory, which suggests that time
exists as a relative concept and not a fixed concept. In addition to possessing the traits of surrealism,
the artwork also gives a sense of realism. The realism depicted in the images shows how the images
can more likely exist in dreams than while awake. In fact, "The theme that time is melting came
when Dali saw a runny piece of cheese on a hot August day, thus giving him the idea to form the
melting clocks" (Puchko). To help illustrate the theme, Dali uses several elements of art, such as
shapes. Shapes hold importance in illustrating the meaning of art. The shape of the three–
dimensional object, for example, illustrates a rectangle, making it look like the objects sitting on it
exist higher up than the rest of the artwork. The tree looks like a thick line of bark with a thin line of
bark branching off of it, which gives it the appearance of holding up the clock. The clocks exist in

The Persistence of Memory
Spain, 1931, Salvador Dali creates an abstract oil on canvas portrayal or the knowledge that is
gained through ones dreams, visions, and intuition. The Persistence of Memory, 1931 portrays an
abstract view of time and visions that Dali envisioned. Perhaps, his most famous work was The
Persistence of Memory, which he painted in his younger years in the 30s. The Persistence of
Memory, 1931, elevates the influence of the subconscious mind through fantasy like images, color,
composition, and thought provoking images.
Dali uses abstract images to represent a balance of altered views, conveying what is reality and what
is from the mind's eye. Note the mysterious rugged ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dali also used the use of two secretive elevated rectangular planes in the work which balance out the
left side of the painting. A cold tree trunk standing on the largest elevated surface leads the viewer's
eyes in a circle back to where focus began at. This stub is seemingly cold and lifeless, with one time
piece hanging from its outstretched limb. Dali stimulates the spectator's mind, leading the individual
on a subconscious escapade (as he initially intended during composition).
The different abstract images shown in The Persistence of Memory, 1931, create a merry–go–round
as each image leaves the observer in a state of wonder, drawing them in. The image of what seems
to be some sort of shapeless human form brings about questions of the relevance of the images
existence. Dali attempted to portray an insignificant self–image in a world possessing a significant
amount of more chaos and importance. These timepieces are intended to demonstrate the importance
in daily living that time and measurement play in each individual's life. The melting watches are a
profound representation that is frequently linked with hallucinations and surrealism. These images
are used to convey an alternate sense of reality which takes place in human cognition, further
guiding individuals away from the actuality of reality. In my opinion, Dali accurately portrays the
human mind in the way that it views precisely what it favors. His extremely

Movie Review : ' The Fault Of Love '
Most romance movies will follow the generic Hollywood formula of love. The Hollywood formula
consists of "boy wants girl, girl rejects boy, boy persists and boy gets girl." When this formula is
expressed in so many movies, it teaches young boys that if you keep persisting, it will eventually
pay off and get you want you want. It teaches people to be stubborn and controlling in the hopes of
proving their love. As stated in DeBeckers, 1997, "Persistence only proves persistence; it does not
prove love." The Hollywood formula of love is expressed in the movie The Fault in Our Stars by
John Green which is a movie about a teenage romance affected by real problems. The story is about

friendly person and Augustus did it on purpose. As stated in DeBecker, 1997, "a smile is a typical
way to mask true emotions". Augustus continues to have small talk with Hazel and after talking to
her for a while, he decides to call her beautiful. Hazel is not interested in any relationships and
Augustus is pushing it upon her. Even after the first interaction, Augustus continues to be overly
friendly with Hazel to please her. He does numerous things to showcase his friendliness like
dropping flowers over to her house and starting to pick her up from school. He goes out of his way
to make the effort in getting her. This is one of the survival signals that De Becker mentions in his
book because this can be seen as "someone trying to charm her" rather than that person being
charming. Although Augustus had no bad intentions towards her, since he was trying to be very
friendly it could seem that he is trying to force on an expression which he does not have already.

Odysseus Persistence In The Odyssey
Odysseus and I have shown persistence. In The Odyssey, Odysseus came upon an island and
ventured out to see what was on the island. After a little wandering, he found his men and himself
trapped in a cave with a Cyclops. After a little bit, the Cyclops started eating the men. There, with no
way to escape the cave, Odysseus explained while he watched his men being eaten, "But I kept
thinking how to win the game: death sat there huge; how could we slip away? I drew up my wits,
and ran through tactics, reasoning as a man will for dear life until a trick came"(907). Odysseus'
persistence of not giving up with no way out, saved them from the evil Cyclops. His persistence has
saved him and his crew many times. Yet another example was when they were on their way to

Persistence: noun – firm or obstinate continuance in a course of action in spite of difficulty or
opposition. I learned in logic class that when the focus of an argument or discussion is on a term, it
is important for that term to be defined. Persistence is my defining characteristic and it is an
important part of who I am. My parents have best exemplified the value of persistence to me in my
upbringing, but first their parents imparted it to them. Grandpa Casper ("Cap"), my mother's father,
had a difficult life. His mother died shortly after he was born and he grew up in the tiny town of
Judge, Missouri. His family did not have much money; it was sometimes necessary to get up early
to shoot a squirrel so that he would have food for breakfast. Grandpa Cap completed a sixth–grade

The Importance Of Student Persistence
It is apparent that the continued educational development of the young minds in America and
beyond prove to be successful. The likelihood that a college–level learner will complete their degree
is known as student persistence, and it is worthwhile to study. According to Rong Chen3,
approximately "one fifth to one quarter of college students drop out at the end of their freshmen
year" (as cited from Ryan 2004). If such a sizable portion of potentially skilled employees is lost,
then the impact to the various civil circles and artistic endeavors could be crippling. It is therefore
imperative that research be done to discover ways of reversing this terrible trend, and applying
results of such studies detailed below is not a lousy way to start. The importance of utilizing
cutting–edge methodical techniques along with identifying factors controlled both by students and
institutions that impact student persistence should not be understated. Since the significance of this
subject is soundly put it would be wise to implement advanced data–gathering methods to procure
reasons why a student would drop–out. College students, as people usually do, terminate hardships
for a variety of reasons. Some may be obvious, they cannot deal with the workload; some are
personal, a loved one passed away; some are discrete, they were caught plagiarizing; some others
could be seemingly unrelated to their academic careers entirely. However, the vasts pool of potential

constitutes someone as a hero? The Odyssey, an epic poem by Homer, centers on Odysseus' journey

head home; unfortunately, for Odysseus, it would take him 20 years to do so. Along Odysseus' 20
year journey, he faced numerous challenges, and his ability to overcome those obstacles with his
cleverness, skill, and persistence. Heroes who embody these traits are needed across time and

Odysseus demonstrated being skilled multiple times, especially when he disguised himself as a
beggar to help Greece win the Trojan War, and when he shot an arrow through 12 axes at his home.
Although both of the aforementioned feats require incredible skill, the most skillful feat Odysseus
achieved is when he returned to his home and disguised himself as a beggar for numerous days.
When Odysseus is disguised as a beggar and begins to get into a fight with the suitors who plague
his house, maintains his composure and disguise by saying "Leave blows alone, do not press me too
hard, or you may make me angry so that, old as I am, I may give you a bloody chest and mouth.
Then I could have peace, and still more of it tomorrow, for I do not think you will make your way
back here a second time to the house of Odysseus, son of Laertes.' (XVIII, 20–24). Odysseus being
able to remain in his beggar character and eventually revealing himself and killing the suitors, even
while he was under immense stress shows just how skilled he is. Another example of an incredibly
skilled individual is the legendary artist, inventor, musician; scientist, and architect; Leonardo Da

including, but not limited to designing the first parachute, helicopter, airplane, tank, repeating rifle,

Persistence Of Memory Edge Of The Trees Analysis
Persistence of Memory [See Appendix 4] and Edge of the Trees [See Appendix 1] are two examples
of artworks that both aim to communicate a social comment that is relevant to the artist's
background and beliefs. Persistence of Memory was painted by Salvador Dali who was a Spanish
artist, celebrated for his surrealistic dreamscapes. Since his birth in 1904, Dali was an eccentric
individual with limitless creativity. His fiercely technical yet highly unusual paintings, sculptures,
films and life–size interactive art pieces were achieved by pouring his boldness and creativity in to
each one. Edge of the Trees was collaboratively created by Janet Laurence and Fiona Foley; two
Australian artists of completely different backgrounds. Janet Laurence (1947) is a Sydney based
artist and architect of more than 25 years. Fiona Foley (1964) is another contemporary Australian
painter, printmaker, photographer, sculptor, installation artist, writer and community activist, whose
work is greatly influenced by her heritage and history. Foley's work often discusses the hidden
histories of Australia's colonial past and its interface with Aboriginal people. Edge of the Trees

Persistence is defined as the "the act of persisting or persevering..." also "continuing or repeating
behavior." It is closely related to words like commitment as well as perseverance. The most
successful people in life are always persistent. This is why it is important to cultivate the quality of
persistence, no matter what you are aiming for. Of course there is a clear distinction between the
quality of persistence and the term "pesky", which is alternatively defined as annoying. Persistence
must always have a purpose or else it will become grating to those practicing and to those listening
to the message.

The Existence And Persistence Of Poverty
There are three main arguments believed to be the explanations for the existence and persistence of
poverty. The first account is the Dependency–Based Explanation that puts the blame of poverty to
the individual or to their cultural background. The Exclusion–Based Explanation and Structural–
Based Explanation are the next two which establishes the society that condemns people to poverty.
Dependency–based Explanation
Individual Deficiency. This explanation views that poverty is caused by the individual's choice.
Influenced by New Right idealism, David Marsland (1997) coined the term 'individual deficiency'
that relates to the dependency of the poor people to the welfare state. The generosity of the welfare
state is being challenged in this view because of the dependency culture it created among people
who abandon their will to work to improve their situation. Marsland strongly recommended the use
of means testing where the benefits to be given would be based from the assessment of incomes and
savings. This is to prevent undeserving people to get assistance that they can provide for themselves.
Culture of Poverty. In his study entitled 'La Vida: A Puerto Rican Family in the Culture Poverty',
Oscar Lewis (1966) explained the second approach of dependency–based explanation which is
dependency culture. He made a research among the urban poor of Mexico and Puerto Rico in the
1950s. He found out that poor people in a class–stratified society were likely to develop a set of

The Importance Of Persistence In Life In DArthur

  • 1. The Importance Of Persistence In Life In DArthur John Howard and Sasha Grey have once said "The Capacity to reach achievable answers to a difficult issue. But, sometimes you needed to analyze the situation." Additionally, Arthur had to trust himself to motive that he will be able to make it. Not knowing it was going to be a king or not. Life always works with persistence or will disappear throughout time. Learning to become right and wrong with the decision humidity makes. In the section sword of the stone by Thomas Malory's D'Arthur how persistence can be given in life? Or will it be always necessary to have it? How it will repeat itself and until it can be changed. Arthur, Sir Ector, Sir Kay, Archbishop and the nobles how they are given the test of Arthur being the rightful king. Prove himself, Commoners said the final word, the nobles begged forgiveness, and Arthur swore to be a great king. Throughout the obstacles in life that are also in the modern life. Central theme in the section Sword in the Stone is Persistence is necessary to achieve difficult / Impossible good. Arthur proves to Sir–Kay, Sir Ector, and Archbishop that he was able to remove the sword. They wanted to see it with their very own eyes that he pull it. Sir Kay and Sir Ector rode back to the churchyard where the stone was supposed to be at and relive that Arthur did pull it with no hesitation. The three of the men went to visit the Archbishop and told them what had happened. They protested against him for being young and having a low position ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. The Persistence Of Temperament And Personality Swati Upadhya The Persistence of Temperament and Personality. 12. October. 2015 Abstract This paper will explore the topic of temperament and personality in developmental psychology. I will provide definitions, statistics and examples to explain what temperament is then following what personality is. After drawing the connection between temperament and personality I will conclude that although temperament is the building block to what results a person's personality it does not mean personality is unchangeable. The Persistence of Temperament and Personality According to data collected in 2013 by The National Institute of Mental Health ,forty–eight million adults of age eighteen and older were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However there is a difference according to Developmental Psychology between the personality you have in the present and the temperament you were both born with and developed in childhood. One question posed by Developmental Psychology is: to what extent does a person's temperament developed in childhood affect their personality in adulthood (Keniston, A., & Peden, B. (1995). Although temperament is the building block for the personality of the person it does not have complete control over what the developing personality will be. Temperament can be defined through both a biological perspective and through an environmental perspective. The Psychology and Neuroscience Department of The University of Colorado Temperament defines temperament as the differences in both emotional and motor reactions and self–regulation techniques that remain consistent over time and through various situations. For example temperament can be expressed in a person through their personal coping techniques and in their emotional reactions that stay the same over time. Biologically temperament is defined as the neurological and hormonal factors passed down through inheritance that affects ones response to the environment. Environmental Temperament is how one responds to the environment that has been shaped by how a parent modulates and responds to the child in infancy. From these definitions we can ... • 3. Persistence And Compassion In Hamlet Never have I ever considered that Hamlet, a classic literary piece, would play a pivotal role in my life. I have to admit that the challenges put forth in preparation of the performance are formidable. Nevertheless, they do not undermine, but rather accentuate my growing alter egos: persistence and compassion. Struggles pierced in all sorts of forms over the period of analyzing Hamlet. However, I am determined to achieve this full revolutionary literary experience because my persistence, partially strengthened from incessantly focusing on a sole character (Ophelia) throughout the play, enables me to push my limits, sharpening my eagerness to seize the knowledge of the world beyond. It is true that hard work contributes to rewards reflective ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I pondered over the thought of how ultimately, we are all that we have. It all depends on the individual and only he himself has the full right to exercise his conscience, power, will to break away from the matters dragging him. One's loved ones would perhaps be present to hold one's hand in times of need, but they won't be able to understand first–hand on how much one has gone through. Another contemplation is that of how selfish desires consume the creator and poison surrounding relationships. A person may begin to adopt materialism, but exhibits those qualities without that person knowing he/she possesses them. Individuals let their inner selves succumb to these ideal visions because they are blinded by the fact that getting hold of something signifies more benefits or control, which on the other hand suppresses the latter. Imagine if the world is profoundly aware that each person only has himself or herself in the end. In this type of society, loneliness and pessimism would surely disseminate. Internally, people would start to secretly engender egocentric desires and would act on impulse because they have learned that eventually, the choices the person makes only affects that individual. Perchance, there would be an emergence of social groups, engaging people with activities that remind them to surround themselves with positivity, which could influence their decision–making. Therefore, if ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Benefits Of A Online Business Persistence is a prerequisite to success in online business. There is no way you can make money online if you are not persistent. Training yourself to become persistent, despite all eventualities, is one important factor that you need to learn right from the day you venture into online business. It should be understood right from the start that making money online takes time. Do not be fooled by those scams who promise you heaven and who make you think that you can make thousands of dollars overnight. To benefit from online business, it 's really dependant upon several factors among which include skill, knowledge, effort, time, will–power and persistence. I have observed that most people are longing to earn money online. This is evident in the number of people that sign up in some of the affiliate programs I promote. However, when you consider those who persist and become serious online marketers, you get tightlipped. I believe it 's not only with me. Even other marketers have a similar problem. Do you know why? It 's partly because many people join hoping to make quick money without necessarily knowing what it takes to succeed in online business. Persistence is an unknown secret to most would–be successful people in online business. But it 's what has turned many online marketers into millionaires. Of course there are other contributing factors, but persistence plays a pivotal role and is a key ingredient to success in your business. Hard work and persistence can ... • 5. The Mark Of The Dragonfly Theme Analysis Themes are really important in books, and sometimes they can change. Some of the themes in the novel The Mark of the Dragonfly are: when difficult things happen, you have to get through them, if you put your mind and effort into what you are doing you will accomplish it, and, always persist no matter how hard the challenge is. I will explain how they change over time and how they are different. A theme that occurred towards the beginning of the novel is 'When difficult things happen, you have to get through them.' An example is Piper's dad died and she had no say in it whatsoever. "He sent letters and money every week until about a year ago, when he died."(Page 66). This shows that even if Piper wanted to or did not want to accept her dad's death, she had to either way. She had to persist and accept that she had no one but herself. Another example is when Micah got hit on the head with some caravan debris. Piper noticed that Micah got hit in the head and that he was bleeding, Piper was not going to just stand there and cry for Micah. Piper got up and tried looking for help. This shows that Piper put everything aside and was not going to stop for anything until she got help for Micah. Another example is Piper needed a way for Anna to get to Noveen, so Piper and Anna broke into the train. "It's still here.' Gasping, Piper skidded to a stop and changed directions, heading for the station.'Come on, we're getting on that train."(Page 78). That shows Piper had a problem that ... • 6. The Three Sins Of Persistence These terms enable us to identify when and why memories might fall short. The three sins of omission are situations that most people can relate to which just goes to show how difficult it sometimes can be to remember the simplest of things. Each sin plays a part in both Fuller and Conway's memoirs. There are only few places where the authors reveal a sense of uncertainty as to whether they remember correctly or not; they both express themselves as if they remember everything they write quite clearly. This makes the reader believe that the authors never experience Transience, Absent–mindedness or Blocking, which might raise a red flag as no one can remember everything. However, the authors might easily explain this by saying that they simply did not include the minor details that they did not remember. Still, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Fuller especially have several traumatic memories that obviously still cause her pain, and because they will not go away, she can relate them more accurately. Some of Fuller's more traumatic experiences are the attempted rape of her and her sister, the death of her younger sister, her getting lost in the forest and the list just goes on. Conway's memories are a bit less severe, but she still lost most of her family in one way or another, was bullied and discriminated, and such events leave their mark. Of course, it is important to keep in mind that traumatic memories might actually not be as accurate as they seem since the involved party might build upon the event over time to better cope with them or because of guilt. Fuller, for example, blames herself fully for the death of her younger sister, though she can hardly be blamed. All of Schacter seven sins can give different explanations to memories' inaccuracy, and as a reader, one has to be aware that no memory is objective as they are as much a feeling as a recollection affected by so many ... • 7. Unrealism In Salvador Dalli's The Persistence Of Memory Art is an application of the human's creative skill and imagination. This can mean many different things, as art comes in numerous forms. Typically, art is visual. John Berger from Ways of Seeing began his first chapter stating, "Seeing comes before words. It is seeing which establishes our place in the surrounding world". Seeing things for ourselves gives a more in depth explanation of life and what it may truly mean. The artwork that I chose was a painting by surrealist artist, Salvador Dalí, called The Persistence of Memory. Salvador Dalí incorporates surrealism throughout this entire painting. In fact, this is one of the most famous paintings for surrealism, as he incorporates much of the unconscious mind and realms of experience (Totally History). This painting contains several objects that act as symbolistic meanings, which relates to human life. Stephen Davies and Philip Alperson from The Philosophy of Art stated, "The bases for artistic features also include relations to matters outside the work, such as the artist's intentions or conventions of symbolization, and so on". Throughout the painting one is able to see these symbols in Dalí's incorporation of the melting clocks, a human figure, and an orange clock covered in ants. There are many interpretations of the melting clocks in Salvador Dalí's painting. One of the interpretations is that the melting clocks represent the softness and hardness of different objects. There is a significant contrast between the two ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Reflection On Nature I have read several pieces of literature on nature, which has directed me to the understanding on how nature and I are similar with the ability to adapt, be resilient , and persistence. During large–scale obstacles that I have had in my life, I was able to adapt, be resilient, and be persistent. Having those characteristics has pulled me through moving states and schools, coming out as bisexual, and the loss of my best friend . Moving schools is a very difficile experience that showed how I am capable of adapting. When I moved to washington from california, I was introduced to many new people that were extremely different that me. It took a few months but I was still able to adapt to the new people, just like the pythons did when in the everglades from Andrew Revkins blog. The pythons and I were capable to adapt to our new environments and strive there. The school in washington was teaching stuff that I hadn't learned yet in california. When I entered my math class, they started talking about factoring and synthetic division. I showed persistence when I spent extra time learning it at home and by going to tutoring, just like the wind kept savagely blowing everything on land from Murakami's short story. The wind was persistently blowing furiously just as I had persistently kept trying to understand the new material I was being taught. Moving schools was very difficult for me but in the end, I had overcome, and found the new school to be much better. Coming out was an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. What Is The Devil's Hole Pupfish? Evaluating an icon of population persistence: The Devil's Hole pupfish Devil's Hole, located in the Nevada desert, is a deep, cavern–like geologic formation just east of Death Valley National Park. The hole is a fissure caused by regional tectonic shifts in the Paleozoic and acts as part of a subterranean drainage network (Riggs & Deacon, 2002). Though at first glance it seems rather insignificant, Devil's Hole is the home of one of the most iconic examples of population persistence in conservation biology: the Devil's Hole pupfish, (Cyprinodon diabolic). The Devil's Hole pupfish is a small species, measuring between 2 and 3 centimeters. They also exhibit semalparity in their fairly short existence, breeding just once in their one year lifespan. ... • 11. Janelle's Persistence: Summary Persistence is a firm continuance in course of action despite difficulty or opposition. In the world of entrepreneurship and business you can't be weak even if you fail a couple of times. Janelle Shanise James is the embodiment of this strength and ideology. She prides herself as a mother, beauty lover, rule breaker, and truth seeker. Make–up has always been Janelle's passion throughout life, but, up until a few years ago, she had always discounted it as something that girls just play around with. Although most business owners can look back to a time in their childhood where they were selling postcards or making a few dollars wiping windows – Janelle admits that she hadn't been grooming herself for self–employment at a young age. She began ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Spending all this money recklessly forced Janelle to learn a lot on her own. When she decided to open a website one web developer quoted her an invoice of two–thousand dollars for the project. Obviously, she couldn't afford it at that time. Instead she chose to seek out the local Barnes & Noble and picked up WordPress for Dummies the book. From this point on Janelle made the decision to educate herself about every aspect of her own business, not like she had much of a choice at this point. This persistence of hers is what kept the business afloat during the roughest times. She now knew with some research that the makeup market was indeed penetrable and companies like Estée Lauder did about 50 billion dollars in sales each year. She wanted a slice of that pie. After building her own website she focused on dialing down her niche. There was much more money in bridal makeup then just making her friends look cute for a night out on the town. Students learn how they interact in a group setting and what role they are comfortable filling. In a study surrounding student success and quantity of student involvement, Huang and Chang (2004) studied whether there was an optimal amount or combination of involvement for a student's cognitive and emotional growth. Is there always a positive relationship with involvement and student success, or is there a point when the relationship becomes negative? Astin (1999) claim that there are upper "limits beyond which increasing involvement ceases to produce desirable result and can even become counterproductive" (p. 528). Eventually, there is a point where students begin having their development harmed by their workload and quantity of involvement. Huang and Chang (2004) assert that an increase in cocurricular involvement does not show a decrease in academic involvement. Their study shows that more involvement is indeed better, despite Astin's research claiming the contrary. Braxton (2006) provides another understanding of student success, concludingded that there are eight areas that have a significant impact on student success during an undergraduate career. Academic attainment, the first area, involves multiple factors that play a role in signifying success: persistence through senior year, cumulative grade point average, and overall academic learning. • 13. Movie Persistence Persistence & Amorality: The Keys to Success The film The Founder directed by John Lee Hancock is a business drama released in 2016 that follows the rise of the McDonald's empire. The film's protagonist, Ray Kroc (Michael Keaton) is a struggling milkshake machine salesman, who happens upon a revolutionary "fast food" restaurant during one of his deliveries. He recognizes the potential of McDonald's and strikes a deal with the two brothers to franchise the company. As the film progresses, Kroc proves persistence is the key factor to success, as he turns a roadside burger joint into an international multimillion dollar empire. Ultimately, our capitalistic society and his persistence enabled the unprecedented rise of McDonald's. Surprisingly, the film has a very serious and dark tone despite the subject matter. While the film follows Kroc's ascension from struggling salesmen to business mogul which seems very exciting, it's also a grim examination of society's values. During the film one has an unsettling feeling as you watch Kroc succeed despite betraying the McDonald brothers, abandoning his wife and forsaking all morals. Typically, films attempt to convey a moral message, so the audience can learn from the mistakes of the character. Yet, at no point does Kroc experience an internal conflict or enlightenment that demonstrates that integrity is more valuable than commercial success. In fact, it's quite the opposite. Kroc's character development is almost reversed and he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Analysis Of Andrew Sarris 's ' Odyssey ' Andrew Sarris, a renowned film critic, clarified the Auteur Theory to be the notion that "the way a film looks and moves should have some relationship to the way a director thinks and feels," and that "good directors express style and theme across their body of work," (Stam 89; Sampson, Lecture 8.2). Although director Jonathan Glazer has a diverse body of work, his personal themes and style are able to shine through across all visual mediums, thus proving him to be a good director, according to Andrew Sarris's interpretation of the Auteur Theory. In his "Odyssey" commercial for Levi Strauss, his music video for "Rabbit in Your Headlights" by Unkle, and his film Birth, the combination of his themes of persistence and unclear identities, along with his style of capturing people's faces and use of tracking shots reveals his worldview that human beings are complex and strong entities. The theme of persistence is prominent among the three mediums. The "Rabbit in Your Headlights" music video portrays the persistence of a will to survive in a lone man who is walking on a busy road. Cars keep hitting and knocking him down, but he gets back up every time. Despite the hits and presumed physical pain, he persists and endures until finally, a car hits him but he remains standing, and the car suffers more impact. The Levi Strauss commercial portrays a similar persistence in that the runners, no matter how many walls stand in their way, they break through them and continue to run. At the ... • 16. Blind Persistence Essay The play Othello by William Shakespeare is a portrayal of jealousy and deception. The two characters Cassio and Roderigo play a vital role throughout the play in portraying Shakespeare's theme of how ignorance, whether it be words of advice from others or just indications, can lead to one's downfall. Cassio and Roderigo both play an essential role in showing how being persistent– ignoring everything that could be signs of warning–to attain what we want is not always the correct approach. The first similarity that links Cassio and Roderigo is their attraction towards Desdemona. Cassio's relationship with Desdemona is really just on a platonic level. Roderigo's persistence is one of the major causes that are responsible for the tragedy in the play. Both Cassio and Roderigo did exactly opposite of what the Duke advised in Othello, I.iii.199–209; They allowed their desires to take over them, not realizing that it would've been best if they had not done so. The notable difference between Cassio and Roderigo is the outcome of their quest and what happens to them. Cassio realizes that it is more trouble than it's worth asking Desdemona to help him obtain his position back. Thus, Cassio tells Desdemona to disregard what he had asked of her. Instead of mourning over the situation, he accepts it because he understands that "To mourn a mischief that is past and gone / Is the next way to draw new mischief on" (I.iii.204). In doing so, Cassio shows that he is willing to accept his position and will try and make the best out of what he has got. • 21. The Persistence of Memory Rami El–Abidin Miss Hansen First Year Writing Seminar 22 February 2012 The Persistence of Memory Salvador Dali's 1931 painting The Persistence of Memory is a hallmark of the surrealist movement. Dali famously described his paintings as "hand–painted dream photographs" and The Persistence of Memory is a prime example of that description. The Persistence of Memory depicts striking and confusing images of melting pocket watches and a mysterious fetus–like structure all sprawled over the dreamscape representation of Dali's home of Port Lligat, Spain. Dali uses strange images, color, and shadows in The Persistence of Memory to convey an abstract view on dreams, time, and reality. Beginning in the 1920s the surrealist movement sought to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Not only does the pocket watch have a distinct color but it is also the only hard, non–melting pocket–watch. The orange pocket–watch, which is being swarmed by ants, represents the anxieties associated with the concrete perception of time like being late or getting older. Along the same vain, the orange pocket watch can also represent death and decay as the only factors of life that are not free of the irrelevancy of time. Dali uses light and shadows to evoke a dreamlike state of perception. In the background we see two tiny rocks, one in the shadows and one in the light while everything in the foreground is engulfed in shadow. The only other things that are in the light are the ocean and the craggy rock structure. Clearly, a majority of the painting is engulfed in shadow. This dichotomy between light and shadow represents the difference between conscious and unconscious perception, between certainty and uncertainty. Since a majority of the painting is consumed by shadow, Dali is implying that humans can barely be certain about their conscious perception. Alternatively, Dali could be using the light as a symbol of hope and certainty that is largely overwhelmed by the uncertainty created when humans attempt to fully understand and control their surroundings. The surrealist movement of the 1920s–1930s was largely based on the notion that excessive rational thought is a catalyst of conflict and war throughout the world. Salvador Dali's The Persistence ... For instance, India and Pakistan had both gained their independence from Britain in 1947 (p.761), and the French, though unwillingly, gave up their colonies in Vietnam (p.754), but with the development of the Cold War there became a need to ideologically separate the free "First World", which was made up of western Europe and the United States, from the communist "Second World", which was primarily made up by the Soviet Union. Though the implicit imperial nature of the invasion eluded U.S. President Johnson, it was quite evident among the countries citizens and civil rights leaders, such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who noted this repetitious trend in American values for the past century. In his "Beyond Vietnam" meeting at Riverside Church , New York, Dr. King took stance that the domestic problems the U.S. was facing was symptomatic of a nature of persistent suppression of other ideas, races, and cultures. He felt that if the U.S. government could overcome these maladies, that the civil rights movement, which was in direct opposition domestic racial imperialism, and the threat of further foreign dispute could be considered a concern of the past. • 24. Unrealism In Salvador Dali's The Persistence Of Memory In art, the details and elements involved help create meaning. Without the elements of art, people could not interpret the meaning of the artwork. The painting called "The Persistence of Memory," created by Salvador Dali, uses shapes, background, lines, focal point, eye movement, texture, and value to make the statement: Time will melt away eventually no matter what happens. The importance of "The Persistence of Memory" stems from the history of Salvador Dali and the 1930s. For example, the artwork demonstrates Einsteins' special relativity theory, which suggests that time exists as a relative concept and not a fixed concept. In addition to possessing the traits of surrealism, the artwork also gives a sense of realism. The realism depicted in the images shows how the images can more likely exist in dreams than while awake. In fact, "The theme that time is melting came when Dali saw a runny piece of cheese on a hot August day, thus giving him the idea to form the melting clocks" (Puchko). To help illustrate the theme, Dali uses several elements of art, such as shapes. Shapes hold importance in illustrating the meaning of art. The shape of the three– dimensional object, for example, illustrates a rectangle, making it look like the objects sitting on it exist higher up than the rest of the artwork. The tree looks like a thick line of bark with a thin line of bark branching off of it, which gives it the appearance of holding up the clock. The clocks exist in the shape of ... The Persistence of Memory, 1931 portrays an abstract view of time and visions that Dali envisioned. Perhaps, his most famous work was The Persistence of Memory, which he painted in his younger years in the 30s. The Persistence of Memory, 1931, elevates the influence of the subconscious mind through fantasy like images, color, composition, and thought provoking images. In the last few seconds, I used every muscle in my body, and pinned the guy I was wrestling. Not only that time, but another time I showed persistence was the summer when I was eight years old. My family and I were in Nebraska at my brother's baseball tournament. Outside our hotel was an enormous rock climbing structure that I wanted to climb. Everyone doubted I could climb it. However, I didn't give in to what they were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Persistence Personified Definition Persistence Personified Persistence: noun – firm or obstinate continuance in a course of action in spite of difficulty or opposition. I learned in logic class that when the focus of an argument or discussion is on a term, it is important for that term to be defined. Persistence is my defining characteristic and it is an important part of who I am. My parents have best exemplified the value of persistence to me in my upbringing, but first their parents imparted it to them. Grandpa Casper ("Cap"), my mother's father, had a difficult life. His mother died shortly after he was born and he grew up in the tiny town of Judge, Missouri. His family did not have much money; it was sometimes necessary to get up early to shoot a squirrel so that he would have food for breakfast. Grandpa Cap completed a sixth–grade education at age sixteen because Pointer's Creek, the public one–room schoolhouse, was far from home and he had to walk the distance; however, he strove to attend. This award marks the apex of the countless people and experiences that I have been exposed to: service projects, campouts, high adventure, and time on summer camp staff. Not only do I know the fundamentals of an outdoor excursion, but I have also learned skills that go beyond the outdoors and will remain relevant throughout my life. Black Persistence Summary Discussion Prince Edward County, VA as a Location to Study "Black Persistence" In Brown's Battleground: Students, Segregationists, and the Struggle for Justice in Prince Edward County, Virginia (2011), historian Jill Titus argues that embedded racial hierarchies, race–based salary discrimination, and political discontent in the African–American community with the Farmville Town Hall leadership created a state of social ferment in Farmville, Virginia during the early 20th century. According to Titus, "Jim Crow set the parameters of life in Prince Edward County" (Titus). She later writes, "privileged white men controlled the banks, the businesses, and the schools, as their fathers had before them. Raised in a world defined by the principle of separate and unequal, they reserved the best jobs and schools for whites, congratulating themselves for their generosity in laying aside the leftovers for blacks" (Titus). Although it was true that financing problems existed, all–white schools still tended to fare better." (VA GOV). • 34. The Importance Of Student Persistence It is apparent that the continued educational development of the young minds in America and beyond prove to be successful. The likelihood that a college–level learner will complete their degree is known as student persistence, and it is worthwhile to study. According to Rong Chen3, approximately "one fifth to one quarter of college students drop out at the end of their freshmen year" (as cited from Ryan 2004). If such a sizable portion of potentially skilled employees is lost, then the impact to the various civil circles and artistic endeavors could be crippling. It is therefore imperative that research be done to discover ways of reversing this terrible trend, and applying results of such studies detailed below is not a lousy way to start. The importance of utilizing cutting–edge methodical techniques along with identifying factors controlled both by students and institutions that impact student persistence should not be understated. Since the significance of this subject is soundly put it would be wise to implement advanced data–gathering methods to procure reasons why a student would drop–out. College students, as people usually do, terminate hardships for a variety of reasons. Some may be obvious, they cannot deal with the workload; some are personal, a loved one passed away; some are discrete, they were caught plagiarizing; some others could be seemingly unrelated to their academic careers entirely. However, the vasts pool of potential causes for a student to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. Persistence In The Odyssey The concept of a hero is something pondered upon by generations of people, so what really constitutes someone as a hero? The Odyssey, an epic poem by Homer, centers on Odysseus' journey home from the Trojan War. After the Greeks defeated Troy, it was time for everyone to pack up and head home; unfortunately, for Odysseus, it would take him 20 years to do so. Along Odysseus' 20 year journey, he faced numerous challenges, and his ability to overcome those obstacles with his cleverness, skill, and persistence. Heroes who embody these traits are needed across time and culture because they provide hope and inspiration for people when they need it most. Three other people who demonstrate these traits are Superman, Einstein, and Leonardo Da Vinci. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Odysseus demonstrated being skilled multiple times, especially when he disguised himself as a beggar to help Greece win the Trojan War, and when he shot an arrow through 12 axes at his home. Although both of the aforementioned feats require incredible skill, the most skillful feat Odysseus achieved is when he returned to his home and disguised himself as a beggar for numerous days. When Odysseus is disguised as a beggar and begins to get into a fight with the suitors who plague his house, maintains his composure and disguise by saying "Leave blows alone, do not press me too hard, or you may make me angry so that, old as I am, I may give you a bloody chest and mouth. Then I could have peace, and still more of it tomorrow, for I do not think you will make your way back here a second time to the house of Odysseus, son of Laertes.' (XVIII, 20–24). Odysseus being able to remain in his beggar character and eventually revealing himself and killing the suitors, even while he was under immense stress shows just how skilled he is. Another example of an incredibly skilled individual is the legendary artist, inventor, musician; scientist, and architect; Leonardo Da Vinci. Throughout Da Vinci's lifetime, he demonstrated exceptional skills in multiple fields; including, but not limited to designing the first parachute, helicopter, airplane, tank, repeating rifle, motor car, and painting the famous Mona Lisa. ... • 37. Persistence Of Memory Edge Of The Trees Analysis Persistence of Memory [See Appendix 4] and Edge of the Trees [See Appendix 1] are two examples of artworks that both aim to communicate a social comment that is relevant to the artist's background and beliefs. Persistence of Memory was painted by Salvador Dali who was a Spanish artist, celebrated for his surrealistic dreamscapes. Since his birth in 1904, Dali was an eccentric individual with limitless creativity. His fiercely technical yet highly unusual paintings, sculptures, films and life–size interactive art pieces were achieved by pouring his boldness and creativity in to each one. Edge of the Trees was collaboratively created by Janet Laurence and Fiona Foley; two Australian artists of completely different backgrounds. Janet Laurence (1947) is a Sydney based artist and architect of more than 25 years. Fiona Foley (1964) is another contemporary Australian painter, printmaker, photographer, sculptor, installation artist, writer and community activist, whose work is greatly influenced by her heritage and history. Foley's work often discusses the hidden histories of Australia's colonial past and its interface with Aboriginal people. Edge of the Trees (1995) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is closely related to words like commitment as well as perseverance. The most successful people in life are always persistent. This is why it is important to cultivate the quality of persistence, no matter what you are aiming for. Of course there is a clear distinction between the quality of persistence and the term "pesky", which is alternatively defined as annoying. Persistence must always have a purpose or else it will become grating to those practicing and to those listening to the message. What really is the difference between being persistent and being a royal pain in the butt? Persistence requires a great degree of premeditated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In fact, without cultivating the quality of persistence, there is not much for a person to do in the world besides become a follower and allow him or herself to be controlled by the wisdom (and or stupidity) of others. • 39. The Existence And Persistence Of Poverty There are three main arguments believed to be the explanations for the existence and persistence of poverty. The first account is the Dependency–Based Explanation that puts the blame of poverty to the individual or to their cultural background. The Exclusion–Based Explanation and Structural– Based Explanation are the next two which establishes the society that condemns people to poverty. Dependency–based Explanation Individual Deficiency. This explanation views that poverty is caused by the individual's choice. Influenced by New Right idealism, David Marsland (1997) coined the term 'individual deficiency' that relates to the dependency of the poor people to the welfare state. The generosity of the welfare state is being challenged in this view because of the dependency culture it created among people who abandon their will to work to improve their situation. Marsland strongly recommended the use of means testing where the benefits to be given would be based from the assessment of incomes and savings. This is to prevent undeserving people to get assistance that they can provide for themselves. Culture of Poverty. In his study entitled 'La Vida: A Puerto Rican Family in the Culture Poverty', Oscar Lewis (1966) explained the second approach of dependency–based explanation which is dependency culture. He made a research among the urban poor of Mexico and Puerto Rico in the 1950s. He found out that poor people in a class–stratified society were likely to develop a set of ...
