I stop before a closed butcher shop (B. 1938)
There is a single light in the store
Like the light in which the convict digs his tunnel.
An apron hangs on the hood
The blood on it smeared into a map
Of the great contents of blood,
The rivers and oceans of blood.
There are knives that glitter like altars
In a dark church
Where they bring the cripple and the imbecile
To be healed.
there’s a wooden block where bones are broken,
Scraped clean– a river dried to its bed
Where I am fed,
Where deep in the night I hear a voice.
3. Butcher introduction
Butcher is actually a person who sells
meat or cuts meat for the different
purpose.
A butcher’s is generally used to mean a
shop where meat is sold.
A butcher may be employed by
supermarkets, grocery stores, butchers
shops and fish markets, slaughter
[killing] house or may be self-
employed.`
4. Meaning of butcher shop
The butcher shop is a shop which cut the innocent
animals and sells to the person.
The butcher shop is about the cruel human act of
killing innocent animals for food.
The poet claims to have heard the voice of those
innocent animals which were killed in the shop.
The butchers man is use to cloth of apron, sharp
knife, wooden block and light.
The poet is created some powerful image seen
which is the image of a blood apron, glistening
knives, a wooden butcher block, single light in the
shop and wailing of the voices.
6. Description:-
The poet describes a dark and lonely place
where only light comes form a butcher’s
shop. The speaker is all alone as there is
no movement of people around.
The poet also describes the butcher shop
as much like a prison where great sins of
killing and sacrificing innocent, weak and
helpless animals is done. All these helps
the poet to create a situation and arouse
scary feeling of the place.
