A Good Deed Can Brighten Even The Darkest Of Worlds
It is said that a good deed can brighten even the darkest of worlds. Opportunities to help others can come in a variety of ways and each is important,
in its own respect. While microfinancing and charitable programs both have their respective benefits, in certain circumstances one may be more
appropriate than the other. Charity should be implemented in times of emergency because it provides short term aid with no strings, prevents banks
from capitalizing on tragedy and provides massive aid, whereas microfinancing loans should be utilized so that individual borrowers experience long
term assistance and so that jobs can be created in impoverished areas. Charity is more beneficial tham microfinancing loans particularly in times of
severe crisis. Philanthropy is absolutely vital when tragedy strikes. After natural disasters, individuals are not thinking about long term financial
security for their family but rather when their children may get their next meal and where they will lay their heads at night. Loans are not effective
these situations. The effects of loans cannot be appreciated because the borrower immediately must begin planning how to pay them back. Although it
is not directly stated on the Kiva website, it can be inferred that the microfinancing system in Nepal crumbled beneath the rubble of the earthquake in
early 2015. There are currently no borrowers in Nepal despite an impoverished lower class that Kiva frequently lends to in other countries. Charity

How Did Pueblo Indians Use Their Contributions To American...
The Pueblo Indians have taught a lot of people about their rich culture. The famous rebellion was about the Pueblos breaking away from the Spanish.
The techniques that they handed down about farming and architecture that are still being used today. Without the contributions that they have given to
America, the country would not be where it is today. Throughout history the Pueblo Indians have grown in culture tremendously, showing that they
are a very complex group of people. The Pueblo Indians had very diverse communities in their time. Pueblo history is made up of six periods. "The
periods and their approximate dates are Late Basketmaker II (ad 100–500), Basketmaker III (500–750), Pueblo I (750–950), Pueblo II (950– 1150),
Pueblo III (1150– 1300), and Pueblo IV (1300–1600)" ("Ancestral Pueblo... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Pueblos themselves were very intelligent and intricate. Throughout all Pueblos there are certain factors that separate them; for example, the
number of kivas or the gender of initiates into the kachina cult (Hoxie 519). To avoid confusion among communities the leaders would keep the
languages in rituals precise, making sure it's understandable (Hoxie 521). If the leaders of communities didn't make sure to use the same languages
there would huge amounts of confusion among the people. The communities wouldn't just have to keep one language in rituals, they would also have
to do the same for farming and other social interactions with people. "Traditionally, Pueblo peoples were farmers, with the types of farming and
associated traditions of property ownership varying among the groups" ("Pueblo Indians" 1). The Pueblos would originally be farmers unless there was
no good soil around, then they would become a nomadic type of group. Women in Pueblo communities did the farming while the men hunted unless the
hunting was scarce, then the men would start farming as well ("Pueblo Indians"

Cedar Mesa 1967-1969
The 1967–1969 surveys of the Cedar Mesa were conducted by Assistant Professor Dee L. Green of Weber State University in conjunction with field
students, and Dr. Ray T. Matheny. We only have access to the reports to the Depart of the Interior that were published by the Weber State College
Department of Sociology and Anthropology in March 1969 and January 1970. From the introductions written in these two reports, we find the
objective was to survey and test, as possible, in the Cedar Mesa area in order to investigate the culture and settlement patterns of San Juan County,
Utah (Green 1969). The areas of concentration in 1968 were Dry Wash (canyon?), Picket Fork Peninsula and the head of Tower Canyon. In 1969 the

Developing World 's Issue Of Poverty
Almost half of the world lives on less than $2.50. At least 80% of humanity lives on less than $10 a day. According to UNICEF, 22,000 children die
each day due to poverty. Poverty is an ever–present issue that affects the lives of billions of people each day. There are many government subsidies
that come into impoverished areas, but does money solve the issue of poverty? No, money alone cannot solve the world's issue of poverty. In this
paper, I want to discuss the role of microfinance in the developing world. Microfinance can be done poorly, which will continue to stunt the economic
growth of an area, but if done properly microfinance can being human flourishment to a developing area. In order to take a closer look into
microfinance, I will highlight the efforts that Kiva, an online lending company, has done to improve the economic horizon for many areas of the world.
The result of scarce economic growth can have catastrophic results on a community, region, and even country. A downward spiral will be begin when
there is no growth; parents are unable to send their children to school due to a lack of money, which creates the need for the children to work to help
bring in money. Uneducated youth will then start to become a cycle that will slowly decrease the economic growth of the community due to lack of
education and the loss of upward mobility. Stunted economic growth will affect the well being of future generations. This picture of poverty is seen

Anti-Bullying Program Analysis
When discussing our prevention project my group thought that we should look for other effective bullying programs and see how they achieved
success. That is when I came across and article on the Great Schools website. This article explained that a group from the University of Kansas was
looking in to implementing an anti–bullying program at the local elementary schools. The program, KiVa, was very successful in Finland and these
college students wanted to see if it would work in schools here in the United States. The article only explained that they planned to implement this
program and did not provide any follow up on if it was implemented and if it was successful. While the article was, short and didn't give a lot of
information to go on, it did give me a starting point to look for the research on the KiVa program to see if... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some of the outcomes from the study involved improved view of school as a caring environment which led to better learning in core subjects. This
program lowered overall depression symptoms for the fourth through sixth grade students, but was significant especially for the students in sixth grade
that were reported victims of bullying. Lowering depression symptoms also improved self–esteem among the sixth–grade victims as well. Not only
were significant improvements seen following the study, but these improvements were seen to have long lasting effects six months after the
completion of the program. Results like this suggest that these children will possibly carry what they have learned into future school environments
and on to post school or career fields. The only down side I saw to this program is that it has yet to have been replicated using other cultures, but I
have hope that the University of Kansas students are in the process of completing this

Analysis Of The Haunted Mesa
This book, The Haunted Mesa, was written by author Louis L'Amour, under the publishing company Bantam Books. It was published in New
York in 1987 and the story of the book takes place around this time as well. The significance of the title is to hint at the central idea of the story,
which revolves around a mesa in the deserts of southern Utah. The place is very odd, having bizarre occurrences described by both the main
character and another character in the story. These occurrences advance the plot astronomically. Not only this, the setting is what pulls the reader
into the book, intriguing and making the reader curious for more. This book has three main characters, Mike Raglan, Erik Hokart, and a strange
young woman named Kawasi. Mike Raglan is a keenly intelligent person, as well as determined, which is what drives the plot onward. Erik Hokart
is also very intelligent, but also wealthy, which enables him to inadvertently start the conflict of the story. The young woman Kawasi is a strange
woman with brown skin and a heavy accent. She is a very odd addition to the story as she is alien to the world in Utah. Of the three characters, Erik
Hokart has the largest influence on the plot, being that he is the reason there is a conflict. In addition, the main character, Mike Raglan, learns a
tremendous amount from his experiences in this book as he tries to remedy the conflict. He learns about alternate dimensions and worlds and new
people from these worlds. Overall, as he learns

The Issue of Transnational Aid Intervention
The issue of transnational aid intervention has become a worldwide topic for debate regarding its role in ethics and legitimacy in international relations.
Historically, international aid had been provided by developed worlds governments. However, aid provided by the developed world became
problematic because of international treaties, violation of state sovereignty, and the spread of capitalist enterprises (Willetts). In addition to, many of
the developing world leaders, consider the concept of aid intervention to be potentially threatening and an excuse for more powerful nations to
undermine and threaten their state sovereignty through a change in the nations economic and social discourses (Willetts). In an attempt to
counterbalance this predicament, institutions known as Non–Governmental Organizations (NGOs) were formed to emphasize humanitarian issues,
developmental aid and sustainable development (Willetts). An NGO is defined as a citizen–based association that operates independently of
government, usually to deliver resources or serve some social or political purpose (Willetts 1). Currently, NGOs play a crucial role in providing
mechanisms which enhance global human progress. To understand the work of NGOs one must know the history of humanitarian aid and
developmental assistance. History of Humanitarian Aid and Developmental Assistance Humanitarian aid is defined as physical resources and or
logistical assistance intended to save lives, alleviate suffering, and

Information system is not just technology (conveyor systems, hardware and software), but it also includes the subsystems data, people, and procedures.
Describe how Amazon leverages different technology for the two processes shown below (include at least two subsystems in each process)?
Process 1: Begin: New product shipped by suppliers arrive at Amazon. –> End: New Product is stocked

Analysis Of Amazon Robotics ( Kiva Systems ) And Cloud...
Introduction:
.
This report will investigate some of the major technologies in Supply Chain management, which significantly impacted the fulfillment and delivery of
an organization. The report will also look specifically at Amazon robotics (Kiva Systems) and Cloud computing technology and how it can help to ease
the process while reflection on models and frameworks.
Supply Chain management definition:
According to Hugos (2013), The term Supply chain management arose in the late 1980s, and prior to that time, many business used terms such as
operation management and logistics, and supply Chain management can be defined as :" A supply chain consist of all stages involved, directly or
indirectly, in fulfilling a customer request. The supply chain not only includes the manufacturer and supplier, but also transporters, warehouses,
retailers and customer themselves"
A general view on recent technologies in order fulfillment and delivery:
As the technology reaches a new level of development and with the continuous growth of customers or consumers expectations, many companies are
competing to provide the best way to ease the process of ordering and fulfillment while achieving a maximum customer satisfaction, even the
responsibilities, and roles in the actual companies have changed and nowadays became bigger and more specific (Ross, 2003). Supply chain now
became more complex than before, it is clear that the tradition of watching and monitoring the delivery or goods

Case Study : Greening Of Management
Chapter 11: "Greening of Management"
The concept of "greening of management," describes the actions taken by managers of all levels within organizations to align their interests with
environmentally–friendly interests. More specifically, it is the practice of implementing ecosystem–friendly practices in their everyday management
decisions. A prime example of "green management," can be found through the "khaki conservation" of the United Kingdom military. The UK military
has utilized "recycling (practices), waste management, energy efficiency, and conservation," when using land spaces open to the public (Fiott 2014).
The actions taken towards "greening" the military lands was a management decision in reaction to the excessive pollution created through the
activities of the military, in addition to the tactical decision to justify military use of areas open to the public. It was also a strategic public relations
decision, because green management strategies applied to the Military of Defense was a response to the population's dislike of the pollution created
(Fiott 2014). In this case, the military utilized green practices like recycling and proper disposal of wastes within their everyday functions.

Analysis Of The Speech Of Muhummad Yunas ( A Microfinancier )
Motivated by the speech of Muhummad Yunas (a Microfinancier), Jessica and her husband Matt Flannery took a trip to Africa where they discovered
that small loans (between $100–$150) could significantly improve the standards of living for people in impoverished nations. They decided to find
KIVA as a non–for–profit organization, as means to alleviate poverty and inspire entrepreneurs in developing African countries through crowdsourced
microloan financing. Suffering general cash–flow problems since inception, KIVA was able to maintain operations by relying on friends and
colleagues as an initial source of funds, and providing them with non–monetary forms of remuneration for services rendered. Following their failure at

Field partners then transfer the funds to the entrepreneurs, whom make loan repayments back to the Field partners, which then get dispersed to the
lenders through KIVA, where they earn a rate of return and get back their principal amount. KIVA's small
–scale informal business model makes it
easier manage and helps to foster a more personal relationship for lenders to feel a greater connection to the person they are helping, with a direct
person to person impact encouraging more lenders and a greater success rate. A major advantage to being a non–for–profit are the significant cost
savings enjoyed through the use of volunteers as opposed to paid labor, which allows KIVA the ability to offer more attractive small andinterest–free
loans. KIVA's emphasis on generosity, human connectedness and community help to reinforce its reputation and to attract organizations that wish to
publicly demonstrate their corporate social responsibility. Though there are many advantages to KIVA, most are theoretically based on the business
structure, model and mission, and as such can only be actualized if the company reaches a certain level of efficacy; making room for a great number
of potential disadvantages. The business model as an indirect P2P lending platform, forces a heavy reliance on partners, participating MFIs and

The Anasazi Research Paper
The Anasazi were a Native American people who were the ancestors of another group called the Pueblos. The Anasazi are a group that first started
in 300 A.D. to 1500. They stayed in what today called is the four corners. ( Where the states Utah, Colorado, , Arizona, and New Mexico meet).
The name Anasazi is not used for often by the descendants . It is a Navajo word that is translated to " ancestors of our enemies". Anasazi society
began as scattered settlements of farmers living in a small town called pueblos. In 1050 they were staying at Chaco Canyon in New York. They had
more than one hundred villages. From studies archaeologist know that there were three classes. The elite class lived in the great houses of Chaco

Why The Kiva System Has Become A Successful
There are many reasons why the Kiva system has become very successful in delivering results to the companies who have made the investment of
implementing it to their pick and packing stations. The concern with these station is that they are considered cost centers in the supply chain of a
company. Labor is a huge part of the cost associated with these centers as well as the cost with expanding automated retrieval and storage systems. By
improving the efficiency in this part of the value chain would mean huge savings for the company. Kiva systems are intended to improve efficiency,
reduce power consumption, and essentially eliminate some processes necessary under the old method of pick and packing. Labor cost would be
reduced by picking up... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They would be more concerned in inventory space. Description of the Logistical Practice To better understand how the Kiva System works, one
needs to understand how the need for the Kiva System was created. Warehouses play an important role in the supply chain from the manufacturer to
the consumer. They serve as giant pick and packing centers. The product comes in usually in large pallets that are sold in bulk, but then they are
broken down and either repackaged or organized to be stored at the warehouse. These distribution centers are considered cost centers because the
work done at the facility add no inherent value to the product (Kamarthi). This means that all the cost is being placed on the company and not the
consumer because it adds no value to the product. This would mean that it is really important for a company to keep the operational costs at a
minimum by improving the accuracy of the distribution center high. The process of filling and order in a distribution center requires a few people,
pickers, sorters, and packers. This means that a lot of money is tied up to labor. Another method the DC's use to make the process faster is by using
automation processes such as conveyors and sorting equipment. These automation–handling systems are very expensive and involve large design
cycles that take 12 to 24 month to bring online (article citation). Another drawback is that once they are set, they are set in stone

New Mexican Culture Essay
From January 20 to 23, I went to Santa Fe and San Ildefonso in New Mexico with Dr. Laughlin and my classmates. I was totally surprised by the
architecture of the housing and the rich collection of Native American cultures. I expected to see traditional suburbs but instead I found almost
everyone has built houses resembling traditional adobe homes which I had never seen. Houses, businesses, government buildings including museums
are almost built in this style. The colors seem to blend in with the desert. One of the most exciting events I attended in New Mexico was the museum

I actually encountered with many vaguely familiar words when studying Native Americans cultures such as Kachina, Sacagawea, and Maria Montoya
Martinez. Both Zunian and Japanese are unique and distinct from all the world's languages, and I believe that there is language connection between
Zuni and Japanese.
Moreover, Zunian is not only the language and a way of communication; it also helps in teaching traditions to younger generations. As time progresses,
the quality and amount of language spoken is affected by other languages such as English and Spanish. However, all generations can speak both
Zunian and English fluently today (5). The Zunian traditionally learned from elders and parents by words of mouth. Many projects have been
established to transform the knowledge communicated in spoken language to written form such as books. The language is incorporated into teaching
methods in public schools and other cultural resources. For instance, the Zuni literacy program was introduced into the School District in 1989. The
Zuni Public School District media centers were awarded an electronic storage to restore Zunian language from Apple as part of its Apple Library of
Tomorrow Program. According to the official website of the Zuni tribe, this equipment has allowed the district to begin production of both print and

Bystanders In Bullying
Alternatives
However, teachers are not the only ones helping the victims. Several research studies have looked at the role of bystanders in bullying students.
Teachers and students who witness bullying can work together to reduce bullying in schools and classrooms. But there is also evidence that those who
were bystanders were not willing to help the victims (Espelage, Green, & Polanin, 2012). Students often do not support victims when there are multiple
witnesses (Salmicalli, 2010). Students expect someone else to intervene or ignore the victim or may consider the bullying to be a joke ( Terasahjo &
Salmivalli, 2003). Consequently, bullied victims feel that they are not only suffering pain from being bullied, but also from being ignored by peers

Microcredit: The Solution to Global Poverty Essay
Over 1.4 billion people live on less than $1.25 per day (Singer 7). In impoverished nations, the life expectancy is below fifty, compared to the average
of seventy–eight years in rich nations. The mortality rate of children is twenty times greater in "least developed" countries than in developed nations.
Nearly 18 million people die every year from avoidable, poverty–related causes (UNICEF). On the other side of the spectrum, there were more than
1,100 billionaires in the world in 2007 (Singer 9). According to Singer, "[t]here are about a billion [people] living at a level of affluence never

An old Chinese proverb states: "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime." This wise saying
applies to the act of giving aid to impoverished countries as well, as is currently demonstrated in many underdeveloped nations around the world,
including Somalia:
"Somalians need food and water right now, but what they need in the long term is the same as the rest of us: functioning market economies based on
democracy and the rule of law, where they have trade and industry rather than tents and food parcels. Oxfam Ireland will never understand that,
because they come from a background which takes the efficacy of aid as a given, rather than merely one of a number of options" (O'Hanlon).
In addition, statistics show that nations that have received foreign monetary aid develop slower than those that have not, specifically because of a
type of foreign aid called tied aid. Tied aid refers to aid that must be expended on exorbitantly priced products and services from the donor country
("How Aid Works (Or Doesn't)"). According to Reality of Aid, foreign aid has failed to deliver real progress for the bulk of the poor.World Bank data
reveals that, "the proportion of donor aid considered to be tied to purchases in the donor's country is 58% while the proportion of aid tied to purchases
is 32%." African Business cites Frans Lammerson, an aid specialist with the OECD, who claims that "[t]he main

Bullying And Its Effect On Schools
While bullying has occurred for many years, anti– bullying programs in schools are having a strict development. Bullying was not an important subject
that was paid much attention in schools or classrooms before 1999. When the Columbine and Virginia Tech shooting happened, schools did not have
any anti–bullying programs. In 1999, schools started to implement anti–bullying programs like The Espelage Lab and Collaborator and many others.
Unfortunately, bullying is still happening in nowadays. Bullying tragedies are in nowadays active. One big example is the bullying tragic ending:

All these interactive activities are also known as Universal actions. As for results, the Kiva program has demonstrated reductions in bullying and
victimization, while it promoted students' empathy toward victimized peers and self–efficacy to help them. The Kiva program has shown increases in
school liking and social motivation ( Salmivalli et al, 2013).
Emphasis on the Teacher
Teachers' Roles Teachers can be seen as authority figures, and can stand up for behavioral norms in classrooms (Veenstra, Lindenberg, Tinga, & Ormell,
2010). When teachers are more involved in preventing bullying and help to create a positive environment, students can feel confident to talk to the
teacher if there is a bullying problem (Veentra et al, 2014). Positive relationships between students and teachers can help strengthen anti–bullying norms
(Veentra et al, 2014). Programs to support teachers' efficacy and attitudes are very important to help bullying victims in a classroom. Bullying incidents
mostly take place on the playground, hallways, lunchroom, and other place where teachers are not around (Veenstra et al, 2014). Unfortunately,
teachers are not able to support anti–bullying norms while they are not around (Atlas, & Pepler, 1998). But still victims feel teachers are not able to
protect them, when teachers are around (Novick & Isaacs, 2010).

Ancestral Novo National Park Essay
Mesa Verde National Park Located in the southwestern part of Colorado, Mesa Verde National Park was the home of Ancestral Puebloans from
AD 600 to 1300. Located within the park are thousands of archaeological sites and hundreds of cliff dwellings. Whether you have half of a day or a
week at the park, there are many opportunities to see not only the cliff homes that were built so long ago, but also to enjoying some truly amazing
geographically features in and around the park. When the Ancestral Pueblo first inhabited this area, they lived on the mesa tops, close to their
farmlands, but during the 1190s, they "began living in pueblos they built beneath the overhanging cliffs" (Cliff Dwelling). Numerous cliff dwellings
have their own names and can be visited while at the park, along with hiking, and sites on the top of the mesas. The geology of the Mesa Verde is

Loans to Cambodia through Kiva
There exists an overwhelming amount of people on Kiva who are requesting funds for their loan. When reading each individual's profile it can be
rather difficult to choose only one person to which to loan, for each individual seeks the loan to better their lives or the lives of their children. In
order to help myself narrow done the list of individuals seeking help, I created a list of preferences of who I was to give the loan. My requirements
were that the borrower be a female seeking to help her children obtain a higher education. Upon placing my requirement I was finally able to find the
person to whom I desired to give a loan. The chosen individual was Nara from Cambodia of the Kampon Speu Province. Nara is a 43–year–old woman

Within day of the Khmer Rouge coming into power, Cambodia entered into the darkest time of its history. Two million people were forced to
evacuate from the cities to the countryside in which they would undertake agriculture work. The Khmer Rouge's goal was to create a rural, classless
society and would force people to work in the fields for more than 12 hours a day without adequate rest or food. The Khmer Rouge placed a ban on
family relationships and began an aggressive campaign to brainwash children and encourage them to spy on their parents. The children were taught to
report their parents to authorities and turn in their parents as enemies of the state. Following their coming into power and the evacuations of the
citizens, the Khmer Rouge turned its sights on the people in its own organization.
The Khmer Rouge soon claimed that only pure people were qualified to build their revolution. They arrested and killed thousands of their soldiers,
military officers and civil servants. In the next three years, the Khmer Rouge would ban religious practice and abolish money, markets, and private
property. School, hospital, shops, offices, and monasteries were closed. The Khmer Rouge persecuted intellectuals, city residents and minorities;
murdering hundreds of thousands of people over the three year period. During the Khmer Rouge regime tensions built between the Khmer Rouge and
communist Vietnam. In 1979, the Vietnamese invaded Cambodia and push the Khmer Rouge to

Hopi Butterfly Dance Research Paper
Taylor Burt MUNM 3213–006 Dr. Jennifer Peck 6 November 2014 The Hopi Butterfly Dance The Hopi tribe is found in the Southwest region of the
United States in Arizona, where they trace their ancestry back 2,000 years; however, tribal legends suggest that the Hopi tribe migrated to Arizona
from the south, which is present day South America, Central America, and Mexico. The Hopi is considered one of the oldest living cultures by
historical documentation (Hopi Tribe). The Hopi Butterfly Dance, or Bulitikibi as the Hopi call it, is a two–day ceremony usually performed in the
late summer that falls into the social dance category. The dance is a celebration of the end of the harvest season and thankfulness for a good crop.
The Butterfly Dance is sponsored by a family and held specifically for the young people of the tribe (Lomahaftewa). Important aspects of the dance
include the public performance, with no sacred altars or secret rites associated, and the fact that the dance is social in nature and open to spectators
(Fewkers). When a family decides that they would like to sponsor a Butterfly Dance, ceremonial preparations begin in order to arrange for the dance
to take place. The village crier announces that a Butterfly Dance will take place in the coming weeks, and the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

some anthropologists believe the butterfly previously played an even larger role in the culture than it does among the present day tribe (Fewkes). It is

hoping to spread the word so we can change hundreds of people's lives for the better. Kiva is an organization that loans to people who need money
for everyday struggles that the majority of us in our small town don't face. I know what you're thinking " What's the point if they just have to pay it
right back?". That's the thing, with Kiva all the borrowers only have to pay back the money over a span of time every month for what we hope is for
a lifetime of happiness.

Has anyone ever wondered why someone would help people in need, there must be a reason; right? Well, there are a lot more people in need than

The Access Of Equity Finance Through Crowdfunding
From almost the beginning, the idea of community and local based Slow Money ideals being served through crowdfunding was acknowledged here
in Southern California. Our Slow Money SoCal founding members were working against a conservative legal backdrop and a sprawling suburbia that
made local investing and the community building it entails all the more difficult. In our early days, while we measured the idea of crowdfinancing
still serving the Slow Money Principles, we decided it was a legitimate sounding of our regional voice. Today, the access to equityfinance through
crowdfunding is just another opportunity to continue to serve ways to catalyze capital while exploring the inherent tension between the virtual world
and the visceral character of a place based investing.
We were broached by Kiva, the grandfather to all technology based crowdfinancing in 2013. Slow Money SoCal had worked without much
success, for an approach to local investment during its first year and was ready to consider another way. Still reticent about the rules and regulations
that served to inhibit a local investing story, we chose to sign on as an early Kiva Trustee hoping to get our feet wet as we continued to develop our
more down to earth, place based approach. We endorsed our first Kiva loan in March 2014.
In those early days of Slow Money SoCal, though some of us were comforted by the Kiva partnership and its legal sanctions, some thought the
partnership was a distraction. If we were busy doing

Anasazi Culture Essay
Long before the coming of the so–called "civilized" Europeans, North America was inhabited by traveling bands of ancient people. Nomadic tribes,
these early ancestors of Southwest Native Americans traveled the land in search of food from the thriving herds of large animals. But possibly as
early as A.D. 900, as the wandering herds began to diminish, these people began to settle down and developed societies and cultures around what is
called the Four Corners area of the southwest, in southern Utah and Colorado, and northern Arizona and New Mexico. Referred to as "Hisatsinom" by
their Hopi descendants, the people are probably better known as "Anasazi," the Navajo name said to mean "ancient enemies." Other, more traditional,

Throughout the ages, the kiva has remained a sacred site, a place of spiritual energy and space. The early Anasazi people lived in small groups of a few
families, with perhaps 10–25 people living in each village, on average, for about 10–20 years. However, the Anasazi population exploded during the
last half of the 11th century, filling the Grand Canyon region of the Southwest. And, as their society grew, the Anasazi villages banded together to
control their water supply with earthen dams and irrigation systems, turning parts of the high arid desert into gardens of various crops to feed their
people. The old culture was able to develop crops with deep roots, able to reach underground water, and thus afford the Anasazi greater access to
food supplies. As their food grew, their society grew, and with that, culture and art flourished. Baskets and pottery were plentiful, with both functional
uses and artful appearances. As the tribes grew, they also developed elaborate trading routes, enabling them to travel to far away places, trading for
goods which they, themselves, lacked. These trade roads also allowed other people of the regions to come into the Anasazi villages for equal trade, as
well. Life was good for these once nomadic and unsettled people. Settlements around what we know today as Chaco Canyon,

Who Is The Bystander In Lord Of The Flies
The first psychological theory to focus on is the bystander effect: a social psychological experience where an individual, usually placed in a group,
is less motivated towards a goal to benefit self or victims. The bystander effect can be shown in various situations, such as bullying, protesting,
debates and more. In the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding, there are many instances where characters, mostly littluns, supported as
bystanders to the bullying of Piggy by Jack. From the beginning Jack immediately displays a dislike for Piggy for talking too much, coming to a
point where he insults Piggy by calling him "Fatty" in front of everyone. This later affects the children's decisions to vote for a leader, and even though
the "intelligence...shown was traceable to Piggy...there was a stillness about Ralph as he sat that marked him out: there was his size, and attractive
appearance; and most powerfully, there is the conch"(22).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Golding displays an apathetic tone on the subject of bullying and the bystander effect; for example, Golding doesn't reveal much information on the
bystanders, but mainly focuses on the struggles Piggy has to overcome to be heard, in other words, the bystanders are just background noise. The
bystander effect shown in the children strike a significance because it torments Piggy to be recognised only as a fat kid with no other important role.
Additionally, the bystander effect emotionally abuses victims, such as Piggy, into believing no one else will help, and in return, bystanders will accept
bullying and restrain from interfering unless someone stronger stands up. In modern society, the bystander effect presents in a majority of bullying
situations, just like in Lord of the

Native Americans have inhabited this country for many generations. We see so many things that are influenced by the Native Americans and we find
ourselves in awe of the independence of these peoples and the culture that they have come from.
When we look at art through the eyes of the Native American we should see a functional and usable art. Art was not for aesthetic reasons; it had real
purpose. The folk art that came from these cultures were for religious and moral reasons. Everything that these people had had a necessity in their

"By A.D. 700 they had built houses above ground in adjacent clusters, which over time developed into the typical pueblo structure. (1)".
In these structures were built a large number of kivas. A kiva is "an underground ceremonial room which are believed to provide entry from
and to the Underworld" (2). "Each Kiva has a symbolic representation of the Sipaapu, the hole to the underworld from which the Hopi
believed they came and the pathway to the upper spirit word, the symbol of emergence in Hopi belief. As in the modern Hopi kivas, the prehistoric
structures had a fireplace or stove with a heat deflector, benches along the kiva walls, and niches for ritual objects. Then as now, the entrance to the
kiva was by a ladder through the roof." (3).
No evidence of the Katsina religion would be found until about the thirteenth and fourteenth century. Archaeological finds state that Katsina most likely
came from Mexico and this was because of a great drought in the south. During this drought many tribes moved north. With the sudden population
boom, there became a necessity for law, thus comes the religion. "Religion provided the matrix for this cohesion, and the Katsina religion
involved every man, woman, and child. Even today every Hopi is initiated into the Katsina religion, thus uniting members of different clans and

Microfinance Is The Best Option Help People Out Of Poverty
Microfinance is grown to one of the biggest areas in fighting again poverty, it can be discussed, if microcredits are the best option to help people out
of poverty. In the past it was almost impossible for the poor population of the world to get a loan with acceptable conditions. Banks would not lend to
the poor, because the risk of losing the money was too high for them, which meant poor people in Africa had no chance of getting aloan from big
banks. The so called "money lenders" would take advantage of this situation, and give the poor an opportunity to receive a loan. The "money lenders"
were not trying to help the poor, they just wanted to earn money, thinking on their own personal benefit. That's why their loans have insane conditions
with interest payments of a couple hundred percent. If someone could not pay back the loan in time, they would take everything from the customers,
and maybe even kill them. This was the only opportunity for poor people to get a loan until microfinance was born. Another problem is, that women
have been excluded from the banking system in general in some regions of the world, because that was nothing women would do in their culture. In
most cultures it was implemented, that women are staying at home, taking care of the house, children, and food. Men would go to work and earn the
money for the family needed for the cost of living. It would also be more complicated for women to get a loan, because they traditionally work less
than men, and

Ancestral Puebloans: The Southwest American Indians
"Man corn", warfare and atlatls were not the only interesting aspects of the Anasazi culture. The history and lifestyles of the Ancestral Puebloans may
have contributed to their mysterious disappearance. Their societies were more complex than most humans realize.
The Anasazi, or to be politically correct, the Ancestral Puebloans, traveled to the Southwest from Mexico around 100 A.D. (Southwest Indian Relief
Council, 2001). The word "Anasazi" originated from the Navajo word that translates to "ancestral enemies." The name was changed from Anasazi to
Ancestral Puebloans so that their ancestors today do not take offense to the history of the people in their past.

Their game meat was killed using either a snare, net, bow and arrow, or an atlatl (Ferguson, 1996). An atlatl consisted of a throwing stick with a
separate dart, it functioned almost the same as a bow and arrow does (Roberts, 1996).
The Anasazi have been characterized into two categories: Basketmakers and Pueblo. The Basketmaker people were then divided into subcategories:
Basketmaker II and Basketmaker III. The Pueblo however, were categorized into four subcategories: Pueblo I, Pueblo II, Pueblo III, and Pueblo IV.
The people remained the same, only little things in their society changed (Roberts, 1996).
The early Basketmakers are known for their yucca–leaf woven baskets. These baskets were so tightly woven that water was stored in them regularly.
They used yucca leaves for medicinal purposes and made sandals out of the yucca leaves as well. They lived in caves and on rock ledges, but they soon
began building pithouses to store food. They made their tools and hunting gear out of bones and stones (Ferguson, 1996).
By the late Basketmaker time, pottery was replacing yucca baskets, and the bow and arrow was replacing the atlatl. The lifestyles of the Basketmakers
changed slightly as they evolved into the Pueblo period.
By A.D. 700, the Anasazi people were categorized as Pueblo (Ferguson, 1996). The Pueblo people built great kivas and used simple black–on–white
pottery. By the Pueblo II times, "Great Houses" and more great

Why The Anasazi Lived
Two thousand years ago the American southwest was populated by a group of people called the Anasazi or "the ancient ones". They began to build a
series of great housing complexes and by the middle of the 12–century the Anasazi disappeared and no one knows why. These early Anasazi were
nomadic hunters–gatherers ranging over great territories then began to settle in communities such as the Chaco Canyon which is now in New Mexico.
Four hundred years later Spanish settlers stumbled upon these cities and called it Pueblo Bonito. The Anasazi settled in the states of New Mexico,
Arizona, Utah, and Colorado. When the Spanish settlers found this city in New Mexico, they named it Pueblo Bonito, which translates to "beautiful

A Good Deed Can Brighten Even The Darkest Of Worlds

  • 1. A Good Deed Can Brighten Even The Darkest Of Worlds It is said that a good deed can brighten even the darkest of worlds. Opportunities to help others can come in a variety of ways and each is important, in its own respect. While microfinancing and charitable programs both have their respective benefits, in certain circumstances one may be more appropriate than the other. Charity should be implemented in times of emergency because it provides short term aid with no strings, prevents banks from capitalizing on tragedy and provides massive aid, whereas microfinancing loans should be utilized so that individual borrowers experience long term assistance and so that jobs can be created in impoverished areas. Charity is more beneficial tham microfinancing loans particularly in times of severe crisis. Philanthropy is absolutely vital when tragedy strikes. After natural disasters, individuals are not thinking about long term financial security for their family but rather when their children may get their next meal and where they will lay their heads at night. Loans are not effective these situations. The effects of loans cannot be appreciated because the borrower immediately must begin planning how to pay them back. Although it is not directly stated on the Kiva website, it can be inferred that the microfinancing system in Nepal crumbled beneath the rubble of the earthquake in early 2015. There are currently no borrowers in Nepal despite an impoverished lower class that Kiva frequently lends to in other countries. Charity prevents ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. How Did Pueblo Indians Use Their Contributions To American... The Pueblo Indians have taught a lot of people about their rich culture. The famous rebellion was about the Pueblos breaking away from the Spanish. The techniques that they handed down about farming and architecture that are still being used today. Without the contributions that they have given to America, the country would not be where it is today. Throughout history the Pueblo Indians have grown in culture tremendously, showing that they are a very complex group of people. The Pueblo Indians had very diverse communities in their time. Pueblo history is made up of six periods. "The periods and their approximate dates are Late Basketmaker II (ad 100–500), Basketmaker III (500–750), Pueblo I (750–950), Pueblo II (950– 1150), Pueblo III (1150– 1300), and Pueblo IV (1300–1600)" ("Ancestral Pueblo... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Pueblos themselves were very intelligent and intricate. Throughout all Pueblos there are certain factors that separate them; for example, the number of kivas or the gender of initiates into the kachina cult (Hoxie 519). To avoid confusion among communities the leaders would keep the languages in rituals precise, making sure it's understandable (Hoxie 521). If the leaders of communities didn't make sure to use the same languages there would huge amounts of confusion among the people. The communities wouldn't just have to keep one language in rituals, they would also have to do the same for farming and other social interactions with people. "Traditionally, Pueblo peoples were farmers, with the types of farming and associated traditions of property ownership varying among the groups" ("Pueblo Indians" 1). The Pueblos would originally be farmers unless there was no good soil around, then they would become a nomadic type of group. Women in Pueblo communities did the farming while the men hunted unless the hunting was scarce, then the men would start farming as well ("Pueblo Indians" ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Matheny. We only have access to the reports to the Depart of the Interior that were published by the Weber State College Department of Sociology and Anthropology in March 1969 and January 1970. From the introductions written in these two reports, we find the objective was to survey and test, as possible, in the Cedar Mesa area in order to investigate the culture and settlement patterns of San Juan County, Utah (Green 1969). The areas of concentration in 1968 were Dry Wash (canyon?), Picket Fork Peninsula and the head of Tower Canyon. In 1969 the Exhaustion Point Kiva in Fish ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Developing World 's Issue Of Poverty Almost half of the world lives on less than $2.50. At least 80% of humanity lives on less than $10 a day. According to UNICEF, 22,000 children die each day due to poverty. Poverty is an ever–present issue that affects the lives of billions of people each day. There are many government subsidies that come into impoverished areas, but does money solve the issue of poverty? No, money alone cannot solve the world's issue of poverty. In this paper, I want to discuss the role of microfinance in the developing world. Microfinance can be done poorly, which will continue to stunt the economic growth of an area, but if done properly microfinance can being human flourishment to a developing area. In order to take a closer look into microfinance, I will highlight the efforts that Kiva, an online lending company, has done to improve the economic horizon for many areas of the world. The result of scarce economic growth can have catastrophic results on a community, region, and even country. A downward spiral will be begin when there is no growth; parents are unable to send their children to school due to a lack of money, which creates the need for the children to work to help bring in money. Uneducated youth will then start to become a cycle that will slowly decrease the economic growth of the community due to lack of education and the loss of upward mobility. Stunted economic growth will affect the well being of future generations. This picture of poverty is seen throughout ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Anti-Bullying Program Analysis When discussing our prevention project my group thought that we should look for other effective bullying programs and see how they achieved success. That is when I came across and article on the Great Schools website. This article explained that a group from the University of Kansas was looking in to implementing an anti–bullying program at the local elementary schools. The program, KiVa, was very successful in Finland and these college students wanted to see if it would work in schools here in the United States. The article only explained that they planned to implement this program and did not provide any follow up on if it was implemented and if it was successful. While the article was, short and didn't give a lot of information to go on, it did give me a starting point to look for the research on the KiVa program to see if... This program lowered overall depression symptoms for the fourth through sixth grade students, but was significant especially for the students in sixth grade that were reported victims of bullying. Lowering depression symptoms also improved self–esteem among the sixth–grade victims as well. Not only were significant improvements seen following the study, but these improvements were seen to have long lasting effects six months after the completion of the program. Results like this suggest that these children will possibly carry what they have learned into future school environments and on to post school or career fields. The only down side I saw to this program is that it has yet to have been replicated using other cultures, but I have hope that the University of Kansas students are in the process of completing this ... • 7. Analysis Of The Haunted Mesa This book, The Haunted Mesa, was written by author Louis L'Amour, under the publishing company Bantam Books. It was published in New York in 1987 and the story of the book takes place around this time as well. The significance of the title is to hint at the central idea of the story, which revolves around a mesa in the deserts of southern Utah. The place is very odd, having bizarre occurrences described by both the main character and another character in the story. These occurrences advance the plot astronomically. Not only this, the setting is what pulls the reader into the book, intriguing and making the reader curious for more. This book has three main characters, Mike Raglan, Erik Hokart, and a strange young woman named Kawasi. Mike Raglan is a keenly intelligent person, as well as determined, which is what drives the plot onward. Erik Hokart is also very intelligent, but also wealthy, which enables him to inadvertently start the conflict of the story. The young woman Kawasi is a strange woman with brown skin and a heavy accent. She is a very odd addition to the story as she is alien to the world in Utah. Of the three characters, Erik Hokart has the largest influence on the plot, being that he is the reason there is a conflict. In addition, the main character, Mike Raglan, learns a tremendous amount from his experiences in this book as he tries to remedy the conflict. He learns about alternate dimensions and worlds and new people from these worlds. Overall, as he learns ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Issue of Transnational Aid Intervention The issue of transnational aid intervention has become a worldwide topic for debate regarding its role in ethics and legitimacy in international relations. Historically, international aid had been provided by developed worlds governments. However, aid provided by the developed world became problematic because of international treaties, violation of state sovereignty, and the spread of capitalist enterprises (Willetts). In addition to, many of the developing world leaders, consider the concept of aid intervention to be potentially threatening and an excuse for more powerful nations to undermine and threaten their state sovereignty through a change in the nations economic and social discourses (Willetts). In an attempt to counterbalance this predicament, institutions known as Non–Governmental Organizations (NGOs) were formed to emphasize humanitarian issues, developmental aid and sustainable development (Willetts). An NGO is defined as a citizen–based association that operates independently of government, usually to deliver resources or serve some social or political purpose (Willetts 1). Currently, NGOs play a crucial role in providing mechanisms which enhance global human progress. To understand the work of NGOs one must know the history of humanitarian aid and developmental assistance. History of Humanitarian Aid and Developmental Assistance Humanitarian aid is defined as physical resources and or logistical assistance intended to save lives, alleviate suffering, and ... • 11. Case Study : Greening Of Management Chapter 11: "Greening of Management" The concept of "greening of management," describes the actions taken by managers of all levels within organizations to align their interests with environmentally–friendly interests. More specifically, it is the practice of implementing ecosystem–friendly practices in their everyday management decisions. A prime example of "green management," can be found through the "khaki conservation" of the United Kingdom military. The UK military has utilized "recycling (practices), waste management, energy efficiency, and conservation," when using land spaces open to the public (Fiott 2014). The actions taken towards "greening" the military lands was a management decision in reaction to the excessive pollution created through the activities of the military, in addition to the tactical decision to justify military use of areas open to the public. It was also a strategic public relations decision, because green management strategies applied to the Military of Defense was a response to the population's dislike of the pollution created (Fiott 2014). In this case, the military utilized green practices like recycling and proper disposal of wastes within their everyday functions. KIVA's emphasis on generosity, human connectedness and community help to reinforce its reputation and to attract organizations that wish to publicly demonstrate their corporate social responsibility. Though there are many advantages to KIVA, most are theoretically based on the business structure, model and mission, and as such can only be actualized if the company reaches a certain level of efficacy; making room for a great number of potential disadvantages. • 15. Why The Kiva System Has Become A Successful There are many reasons why the Kiva system has become very successful in delivering results to the companies who have made the investment of implementing it to their pick and packing stations. The concern with these station is that they are considered cost centers in the supply chain of a company. Labor is a huge part of the cost associated with these centers as well as the cost with expanding automated retrieval and storage systems. By improving the efficiency in this part of the value chain would mean huge savings for the company. Kiva systems are intended to improve efficiency, reduce power consumption, and essentially eliminate some processes necessary under the old method of pick and packing. Description of the Logistical Practice To better understand how the Kiva System works, one needs to understand how the need for the Kiva System was created. Warehouses play an important role in the supply chain from the manufacturer to the consumer. They serve as giant pick and packing centers. The product comes in usually in large pallets that are sold in bulk, but then they are broken down and either repackaged or organized to be stored at the warehouse. These distribution centers are considered cost centers because the work done at the facility add no inherent value to the product (Kamarthi). This means that all the cost is being placed on the company and not the consumer because it adds no value to the product. This would mean that it is really important for a company to keep the operational costs at a minimum by improving the accuracy of the distribution center high. The process of filling and order in a distribution center requires a few people, pickers, sorters, and packers. This means that a lot of money is tied up to labor. Another method the DC's use to make the process faster is by using automation processes such as conveyors and sorting equipment. These automation–handling systems are very expensive and involve large design cycles that take 12 to 24 month to bring online (article citation). Another drawback is that once they are set, they are set in stone ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Moreover, Zunian is not only the language and a way of communication; it also helps in teaching traditions to younger generations. As time progresses, the quality and amount of language spoken is affected by other languages such as English and Spanish. However, all generations can speak both Zunian and English fluently today (5). The Zunian traditionally learned from elders and parents by words of mouth. Many projects have been established to transform the knowledge communicated in spoken language to written form such as books. The language is incorporated into teaching methods in public schools and other cultural resources. For instance, the Zuni literacy program was introduced into the School District in 1989. The Zuni Public School District media centers were awarded an electronic storage to restore Zunian language from Apple as part of its Apple Library of Tomorrow Program. Teachers and students who witness bullying can work together to reduce bullying in schools and classrooms. But there is also evidence that those who were bystanders were not willing to help the victims (Espelage, Green, & Polanin, 2012). Students often do not support victims when there are multiple witnesses (Salmicalli, 2010). Students expect someone else to intervene or ignore the victim or may consider the bullying to be a joke ( Terasahjo & Salmivalli, 2003). Oxfam Ireland will never understand that, because they come from a background which takes the efficacy of aid as a given, rather than merely one of a number of options" (O'Hanlon). In the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding, there are many instances where characters, mostly littluns, supported as bystanders to the bullying of Piggy by Jack. Microfinance Is The Best Option Help People Out Of Poverty Microfinance is grown to one of the biggest areas in fighting again poverty, it can be discussed, if microcredits are the best option to help people out of poverty. In the past it was almost impossible for the poor population of the world to get a loan with acceptable conditions. Banks would not lend to the poor, because the risk of losing the money was too high for them, which meant poor people in Africa had no chance of getting aloan from big banks. The so called "money lenders" would take advantage of this situation, and give the poor an opportunity to receive a loan. The "money lenders" were not trying to help the poor, they just wanted to earn money, thinking on their own personal benefit. That's why their loans have insane conditions with interest payments of a couple hundred percent. If someone could not pay back the loan in time, they would take everything from the customers, and maybe even kill them. This was the only opportunity for poor people to get a loan until microfinance was born. Another problem is, that women have been excluded from the banking system in general in some regions of the world, because that was nothing women would do in their culture. In most cultures it was implemented, that women are staying at home, taking care of the house, children, and food. Men would go to work and earn the money for the family needed for the cost of living. It would also be more complicated for women to get a loan, because they traditionally work less than men, and ... • 35. Robots In A Dystopian Society Imagine, for a second, a not–so–distant future produced not by humans, but a dystopian society engineered by humanity's most amoral of computational artificial intelligence. Built without empathy by their equally emotionless robotic predecessors. Robots that make robots which make more robots, which could make more robots to divide and diversify. Robots that learn and develop based on their interactions, and robots that respond to a variety of external stimuli. Each robot has the capability to learn and store informational data. This matrix of machines uses the remains of our biological and chemical energies, humans: young, old, babies, adults and everything else that could no longer contribute to their robotic overlords, as batteries to power themselves as they systematically replace human life with their robotic and psychopathic need for efficiency. To perfection, for flesh tears and withers, but metal is eternal. But don't worry, these billions of robots have been provided with a manual of the Laws of Robotic Interactions with Humans ... to share. While that dystopian future may seem rather extreme, a more modest proposal would follow that robots may not be eating babies, but they uncertainly threaten the value of our time within a workplace. Machines, to many companies, are a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He laments the loss of thousands of jobs and foretells of an economic collapse as jobs grow stagnant. A vast array of skillsets and creativity will become the new base requirements for even the most minimalistic of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. Ancestral Puebloans: The Southwest American Indians Essays Ancestral Puebloans: The Southwest American Indians "Man corn", warfare and atlatls were not the only interesting aspects of the Anasazi culture. The history and lifestyles of the Ancestral Puebloans may have contributed to their mysterious disappearance. Their societies were more complex than most humans realize. The Anasazi, or to be politically correct, the Ancestral Puebloans, traveled to the Southwest from Mexico around 100 A.D. (Southwest Indian Relief Council, 2001). The word "Anasazi" originated from the Navajo word that translates to "ancestral enemies." The name was changed from Anasazi to Ancestral Puebloans so that their ancestors today do not take offense to the history of the people in their past. The Anasazi were ... An atlatl consisted of a throwing stick with a separate dart, it functioned almost the same as a bow and arrow does (Roberts, 1996). The Anasazi have been characterized into two categories: Basketmakers and Pueblo. The Basketmaker people were then divided into subcategories: Basketmaker II and Basketmaker III. They lived in caves and on rock ledges, but they soon began building pithouses to store food. They made their tools and hunting gear out of bones and stones (Ferguson, 1996). By the late Basketmaker time, pottery was replacing yucca baskets, and the bow and arrow was replacing the atlatl. The lifestyles of the Basketmakers changed slightly as they evolved into the Pueblo period. By A.D. 700, the Anasazi people were categorized as Pueblo (Ferguson, 1996). The Pueblo people built great kivas and used simple black–on–white pottery. By the Pueblo II times, "Great Houses" and more great
