Toyoda start become an industrial Person in Japan and established his weaving company that very
successful and well–known at that time. But his son, Kiichiro Toyoda has a different passion with
his father. Kiichiro founds his passion in automobile rather than the weaving machine.
At the beginning of the establishment, Toyota Motor Corporation is just as a division of Toyoda

In 1996, Toyota engineers discovered an issue with the Hilux Surf, a sport utility vehicle (SUV) that
was sold in England. Toyota sold this same SUV in the United States, but it was called the 4Runner.
The engineers were concerned because with a combination of heavy loading and severe steering
maneuvers, the SUVs could lose directional stability. This resulted in the possible consequence of
drivers losing control of the vehicle and increasing the risk of a crash. Toyota did make a design
change to correct the steering mechanism, but instead of issuing a recall on the existing Hilux Surfs
and 4Runners that were already on the road, Toyota simply installed the design change on the new
models. Eight years later, there was an accident that involved an out of control Hilux Surf that
prompted a police investigation. The Japanese government heavily criticized Toyota and ordered
them to overhaul its recall system. Since 2007, Toyota has received major criticism regarding the

After WW2 Japan was in an economic crisis which continued until 1949 when the company
obtained a loan from several banks. In June 1950 the company only produced 300 trucks and
management announced layoffs and wage reductions and in response, the union went on strike
which last for two months. While the strike did eventually end and layoffs and wage reductions did

Today, Toyota like other automotive companies has problem in their products.
The main problem of Toyota is that Toyota cannot compete in the luxury level car market, and so it
can lose market share in this level. (Toyota annual report, 2014).
In Toyota's luxury line, Lexus, they are still losing market share to BMW in sedan sales and in SUV
sales because Toyota will quickly lose market share due to a failure to meet customer requirements.
If it doesn't find the solution for this problem, it will not be able to compete with its other
