Summary of The Glorious Revolution

1. THE GLORIOUS REVOLUTION
This Revolution took place in England
in 1688. It is also known as
the Bloodless Revolution because
there was no fighting or bloodshed
in order to achieve success.

2. After Charles II's death,
James II became king of England.
He converted to Catholicism.
James's wife was Anne Hyde and
they had three surviving children,
Mary, Anne and James Francis Edward Stuart.
The heir of the throne,
boy who will adopt his
father's ideology.

3. The members of Parliament thought
that James II was promoting
Roman Catholics to important positions.
He also wanted a Catholic Britain;
consequently his main idea and plan was
to reduce the power of Parliament.

4. The members of the Parliament took action!
James II Vs Protestants
and William III
◦ Parliament's Plan in itself!
They invited William of Orange
and his wife Mary ( James II's daughter)
over to England from the Netherlands
to make a deal. They were committed
protestants.
Parliament words: ''Help us get rid of James II, and you can be our king and queen.''
Finally they agreed and they became King and Queen of England.

5. James II fled to
France. He did not
fight to remain in the
parliament.
The Parliament
had more
power than the
Monarchy.

Jacobite's Movement:
Inaugurated by the English
and Scottish of the exiled
house of Stuart. They were
in favour of James II and
Catholicism.
France against William III:
Louis XIV from France
declared war to England.
The Battle of The Boyne:
Battle fought in 1690. James
II was against William III.
William III won so James II
could not regain the crown
and it led the continuation
of protestants predominance
in Ireland.
