GLORIOUS REVOLUTION

1.  “” THE GLORIOUS REVOLUTION””

2.  James II took the throne of England in 1685, when
his brother died.

3.  He was a Catholic Christian and he tried to
introduce his own laws which were more tolerant
of Catholics.

4.  But the problem was that the most members of
Parliament were Protestant Christian.

5.  However , he removed Protestant officials, people
from the army , from church and replaced them
with Catholics.

6.  He also suspended laws that the Parliament
had made.

7.  The Parliament was worried and thought this was
an aggressive Act ,because James was going to
try gain absolute power for himself.

8.  The religious rivalry between the Catholic James
and the Protestant Parliament had begun.

9.  The Parliament was hopeful that when James
died his protestant daugther would take the throne
of England..

10.  But in 1688 James had a son,the new catholic
heir to the throne.He was:
JAMES FRANCIS EDUARD STUART

11.  Thus the Parliament had to think about a Plan,
And decided to invite Mary`s husband William of
Orange,who was a prince in the Netherlands, to
invade England and replace James as the King.

some conditions.
We agree with

the throne of
England.

13.  Mary and her husband, Willian of Orange left the
Netherlands and began their journey to England.

14.  For this reason James had to escape to France
to save his life.

16.  James II spent the rest of his life in exile in France.

17.  Parliament made William and Mary sign the Bill of
Rights.

18.  This was an agreement between Parliament and
the new King and Queen about how the country
should be run .

19.  Parliament were able to gain enormous power
while Williams and Mary became a King and a
Queen of England ,but the real power was in the
hands of the Parliament.

20.  This period was called “ The Glorious Revolution “
,because there no were injured and killed people
and the events ended in a peaceful way.
