2. The Comparison between
“The Internship” and “Bean”
( Comedy )
So, to begin the comparison, let’s talk about the genre of film.
Comedy, A professional entertainment consisting of jokes
and satirical sketches, intended to make an audience laugh.
In simple words, a movie or a play that intended to make
audience laugh and feel happy. For example, “Hangover”,
“How I Met Your Mother”(HIMYM, Comedy-drama). In this
3. essay I would like to talk about the differences between
“The Internship” directed by Shawn Levy and “Bean” by Mel
Smith in the view of Characters, target audiences,
Circumstances that they faced in the movie, and moral
values.
First of all, Characters in “The Internship” and “Bean”. The
main characters of “The Internship” are Billy McMahon and
Nick Campbell whose cast by Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson
respectively. Billy and Nick is best partner in sales, they know
the art of speaking. They always know how to pursue
customers to buy their product but then, their boss shut
down the company, and they lost their job. Until now,
everything happen in the movie is just like other movie, so
they need to change. Billy struggle for his life and he try to
find a job through Googling and one in the sudden, a crazy
idea appear, Billy quickly fill the word in the search blank and
then “Google” is show in the computer screen. Day after that,
Billy bring nick along go to a public library for a Google
interview, later on, the journey of 2 Google intern begin. On
the other hand, “Bean” is about Mr Bean, a security guard of
Royal National Gallery in London. As usual, Mr Bean always
did some hilarious thing anytime anywhere and in a
coincidental chance, Mr Bean took the flight to Los Angeles
as a representative of Royal National Gallery of London. Later,
Mr Bean team up with the Grierson Art Gallery’s curator,
David Langley (Peter MacNicol ) have plenty of adventures.
So now, the difference of these characters is Billy and Nick is
more to verbal communication to entertain the audience.
4. They use the power of words to entertain the audience, for
example, Billy: “No, we can't talk about it later. The future
doesn't know later. ”. Nick: “All the future is, is later. That's
literally what the future is. It's later.” On the other hand, Mr
Bean is more adapt to non-verbal communication towards
audience. He uses action to represent the words, or in other
words, body language. To show you an image, Mr Bean was
late for work and he no time to make himself a coffee, so he
was just poured the coffee powder into his mouth, adding 2
spoon of sugar, milk and boiled water. Instead of saying he is
late for work, he just show us by his action.
Second, The Circumstances they had faced in “The Internship
and “Bean”. In “The Internship” Billy and Nick are good in
selling thing but other than that, they are nothing, they don’t
have degree, they don’t have any skills other than soft skills.
So this is the first challenge for them to go to Google do their
intern. They don’t know how to write the code, but daring to
get an intern in the IT Company, Google. In “Bean” , the
problem that Mr Bean faced is kind of unrealistic: sneezing
on the real “Whistler’s Mother” and ruin the art paint. The
thing I want to talk here is the circumstance in “The
Internship” is more realistic than “Mr Bean”, I guess you will
have no chance to sneeze on the “Whistler’s Mother” once in
the life time? If you have it, just do it!
Lastly, the moral value in “The Internship” and “Bean”. “The
Internship” taught me don’t give up so easily even though
you are so old to do the new stuff, Billy and Nick are old,
5. outdated, do not obtain diverse skills, but then, they learn,
they study, they get the skill. For example, before Nick enter
Google he does not know any shit of coding, but he learn, he
study hard and later he knows how to write HTML5 and
many coding language. We are never too old the learn the
new thing. In “Bean”, I learn that family is the first priority.
This can be shown when Jennifer, the daughter of David got
an accident. David is so anxious, worried for his daughter. It is
kind of sad to see this scene. In addition, the moral value that
I learned from “Bean” is every problem has a solution, it is
kind of same with “The Internship”, even though the
“Whistler’s Mother” is ruined by Mr Bean, but after inspired
by David’s son, Mr Bean successfully settle the problem, by
replacing the real painting by a poster. So, when there is a
will, there is a way.
In conclusion, I can’t tell which movie is better, because both
of them are awesome in their own way. It is worth to spend
your time, sit down and watch both movies. So, what are you
waiting for?
