The Goal I Have For The High Schoolers
The purpose statement I have chosen reflects the goal I have for the high schoolers in my youth
group. It also lets others know why I want to work with youth in a Christian setting and in general.
The purpose of Craftsman's Heart is to Teach young people about God, crafting them into disciples
equipped with Knowledge of the Gospel, so that they may Reach the lost of the world.
Rationale: The Bible is full of stories about people who need saving. Not just people alone, but
whole countries and nations. God alone gives us the choice to obey and follow him or to turn away
from him. Though he wants us to live for him and give our lives to him. For this reason he sent his
son, Jesus, to die on the cross. Because of what he did at calvary we have the opportunity to spend
eternity in Heaven with our Saviour. I believe that every single living person should know about this
option they have. The people of the world deserve to know about Christ and what he did for them. It
should not be a knowledge or religion only allowed to those in first world countries.In Matthew

Funds are a serious problem in third world countries and the fact is that they just don't have all the
money to support your work among them. The job would not enable supply for a family and keep it
going without outside help. Business missionaries have the skills needed to work with people in and
out of country to identify money raising opportunities. In addition, using the skills learned in math
classes and accounting class, one would be able to manage the funds appropriately. Working papers
and figuring out expenses can cause long work hours, but these hours do not have to be spent far
from home. Doing work at home and around the kids will show them the amount of effort that is

The United Methodist Church is growing and it is happening in nontraditional areas. Between 2005
and 2013 outreach ministries connected the UMC with diverse communities and created over

Clinical Observation Of Shawnee Mission School
I had my clinical rotations at Westwood View Elementary. The school is under the Shawnee mission
School District (SMSD). It is located in the city of Westwood, North East corner of Shawnee
mission. The school's population is about 305 children, ages 5 – 11 and 12, ranging from
kindergarten –sixth graders. The school has only one school nurse. Westwood community is not an
economically deprived area, so, the children have enough resources for their education.
Some of the kids go through emotional and psychological stress which come from Parents divorce,
parents wanting their children to be the best in class, making them go above and beyond their
academic limits My main involvement with this agency was teaming up with the school's nurse to

activity that we performed for the students. The aim of this activity is to teach students the
importance of handwashing. How the activity works, we come to the class with the glow kit which
comprises of a box with an inbuilt mercury light called Glitter Bug Lamp. It also contains the Glitter

The main theme of the story in the mission is about a group of Jesuits who established a mission
station around the borderland of Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil around 1750. Meanwhile, they
converted the local Indians to Christianity. At the end, Cardinal Altamirano ordered Jesuits to leave
the mission. Without the protection of the church, the local Indians were killed or slaved by
Portuguese. The script of the movie was written from a real historic event in 1754–1756, the
Guarani War, which Guarani communities defend their homeland against Spanish–Portuguese for
almost three years. The fuse of the war was ignited by the Treaty of Madrid in 1750, which was
signed by the king of Spain and Portugal to completely determine the border between Spain and
Portugal in South America by the area around Uruguay river. Around that time, the Jesuit mission
stations and the local Indians were growing rapidly both economically and regionally with their
outstanding plantations, which was much better than those in Portugal's own territory. As a
consequence, the Portuguese wanted to take over control the land and slave the Indians. They forced

The Mission was filmed in 1986, was directed by Roland Joffé and written by Robert Bolt. The film,
set in the year 1758, depicts the story of the building of the missionaries in South America. The film
stars an award–winning cast and most of the filming locations are historically accurate (e.g.,
Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil). However, the movie presents an unrealistic portrayal of the three
main groups, those groups being the native Guaranís, the Jesuits and the Catholic Church

The next time we see the natives come in contact with a Jesuit it is when Father Gabriel makes his
way over the falls into their land and begins playing his music. The Guaraní in the film are
seemingly enchanted with the music father Gabriel plays from his oboe, so much so that they don't

Approximately six miles north of Frankenmuth, lies Frankentrost. It was also founded in 1847 and it

Bran Nue Dae purposefully represents Catholics in a negative light, using specific film codes to
persuade the viewer to see them as the villains of Bran Nue Dae. They are stereotyped as
disciplined, committed and vindictive for the duration of the film. When Willie first arrives at
school, the camera zooms in while non–diegetic horror music plays and a dark light is cast over the
school. Technical codes such as these present the school as menacing and eerie and help the
audience to see the school and Catholics as Willie does – a sort of own personal horror movie.

Relationships hold the keys to success
Church leadership, along with teams that are sent to the mission field should work together in
identifying what needs to be done for the particular community of people. A relevant example of
critical caring was in a local church body. The Worship Experience team, made up of a 200+
member choir, had clearly identified a group within this church community that would care for one
another in satisfying common goals, and to accomplish the task of helping people get through tough
times. While there was a general fund of money to help with occasional supermarket gift cards, this
critical care group was charged with building relationships to find out real needs. When an actual
couple was having hospital–related illnesses among each family member, they didn't necessarily
need money–rather someone to help clean their house and do much–needed loads of laundry.
Implementing solutions are where most people get stuck. Whether leading by example in a local
church choir, or shepherding a mission's team into Juarez, Mexico takes courage and the willingness

might call the place you come to worship God, I have always called it home. The Church I have
been attending, Memorial Baptist Church, which is also where I attend high school, I have been

a professional doctor. He was very interested in exploration and his main goal was to stop

The Mission Movie Analysis
"The Mission" is a film that gives a historically accurate depiction of the events that took place in
South America around 1750, displaying the jesuit missions and their attempt at expanding
missionary ventures in the area. These missions foresaw the Jesuits going to uncharted areas of the
jungle inhabited by the Guarani people, demonstrating the significance assimilating the Guarani
people meant to the Jesuits. Additionally, the Guarani people were accurately displayed as a self–
sustained society where basic components such as: productivity, protection, justice regulations and a
form of a leader was evident in the form of their King. Nonetheless, the Guarani were an isolated
group of individuals who were secluded to the outside world; their only contact with outside
personnelles were slave traders who would put them into forced slavery for personal benefits. Not to
mention the "Treaty of Madrid", which resulted in the social and political disputes between the,
Portuguese, Spanish and Catholic community; manifesting in the form of territorial conflicts and
misunderstandings amongst the three vigorous societies, where each have a different purpose for the
Guarani people.
The opening scenes in the movie shows a man tied to a cross who is set to float down the river and
eventually falls over the robust waterfall. He was a man sent by the jesuits to assimilate the Guarani
people, however his death is unjustified in the movie which leads us to consequently assume that the
Guarani people were at fault for his death. Correspondingly, father Gabriel comes to deliver the
message of christianity to the Guarani people and establish a mission on their land. Most Jesuit
missions served as a form of protection for the Guarani natives from slave traders, owing to the fact
that the Jesuit missions had strict regulations about visiting outsiders. By means of enforcement
Jesuits only allowed the spanish or Portuguese to spend a maximum of three days in their
community. Nonetheless, Jesuit beliefs were conflicted by the actions of the Portuguese and the
spanish that conflicted with their impact on societal function, coming into the new world.

Being the Best Missionary to the Indians
A good missionary is one that simply is respected and accepted by the Indians and who has
successfully spread the word of God to them. Many qualities however though play into obtaining
this presence. A lot of Europeans that came to the new world did not possess these many qualities to
understand the Indians. As a Jesuit myself who is a part of the New France mission I do know on a

Tim Stewart, creator of the Dictionary of Christianese website, in his article "Missionary Kid (MK)"
(2013), argues that missionary kids can either be little devils or precious angles, but either way they

The first half of Discovering Missions written by Culbertson and Gailey introduce the countless
aspects of missions and related terminology in reference to missions. Throughout the book, the
focus is then directed to the important factors that play a part in missions. Chapters eight through

development of missionaries, the contrasting philosophies and strategies of mission, the new

Although some might argue that the neighborhoods that are becoming gentrified are safer, there are
many other problems. The neighborhoods that are becoming whitewashed have a lot more security
but this doesn't include Black or Latino. The SFPD keeps these gentrified neighborhoods clean by
criminalizing and removing Black and Latino young men from these upgraded areas. As a result of
this many Black and Latino young men suffer from police brutality. A clear case of this is Alex
Nieto, his death was due to gentrification. He was 28 years old when he was killed,in the
neighbourhood where he had spent his whole life. Like we see he was killed by the SFPD because
of two calls they got saying that there was a young Latino, probably a gang member, with his hand
resting on a gun. This two calls were from two white men that were walking their dogs, not knowing
that Alex was in the neighboorhood he grew up in.After the violent death of Alex the police got
acquitted.It's really sad that this is happening and that we can no longer feel safe in our own
neighborhood. Based on what I experienced, I also feel the different vibe when I hang out with my
friends. All of the friends I hang out on the weekends are Latino and they live in the same
neighborhood, but when a group of new neighbors pass by they think that we are some sort of gang.

Machiavelli's Beliefs In The Film, The Mission
The movie, The Mission, begins with Jesuit priest, Father Gabriel, entering the Guarani tribe in
South America. Shortly after, he is joined by Rodrigo Mendoza, a nearby prisoner who has been
seeking penance. With the intent of converting the natives to Christianity, they were able to generate

My Mission Trip From The United States
I have never known a time in my life where I have not gone to church. With that being said, it's not
my largest priority. I tend to get distracted during the school year with deadlines and hanging out
with friends. It's when I'm able to go on a mission trip that I can truly show and see what I believe
in. I have been on four mission trips altogether and this summer I took a leap of faith and left the
country for the first time to serve. Nicaragua held the same focuses as trips in the United States, but
what I consider a mission trip from my experience in the past was not what this trip had in store. My
first mission trip was five years ago when I was in eighth grade. Both my sisters and brother had
gone on various mission trips and the one to Detroit was my first opportunity. On that trip we
worked on fixing up a couple churches that held youth group events. My team and I weeded,
painted, planted flowers, organized and cleaned the churches different offices and activity rooms
during the first couple days of the week long trip, the second half of the week, my team and I

The Short Term Mission Trips
Think about the poverty and problems that all countries around the world are facing today and every
day. As Americans we have an urge to go into these countries to help as much as possible because of
that we have begun a revolution. Americans began going on mission trips around the 1960s but did
not really pick up until the 1990s. The trend grew after multiple natural disasters, Americans saw
and need and went, since then short term mission trips show no sign stopping anytime soon. As the
popularity of leaving our comfort zones, many people have found issues with the way the trips are

The first wave of gentrification ended when the dot com bubble burst and the number of Ellis act
evictions plunged. In 2005, however, after new technology companies like Google, Facebook, and
cisco began attracting thousands of high–paid employees to the bay, the number of Ellis evictions
tripled.1 In 2013, Ellis evictions grew 175 percent from the year before.1 The companies moved to
the south bay but the city attracted many of these young techies. The techies would live in the city
and end up commuting to the Bay area. During that time more than half of the Ellis evictions were
carried out less than a year after a building had changed hands. Since 2011, 69 percent of the
evictions have occurred n the mission no more than a few blocks from the private tech company's
shuttle bus stops.1 The Companies provide shuttle bus service to the city in order to carry their
employers in to the bay. Not only do the buses cause overcrowding of the streets but they also traffic
and a trend of living more than 30 miles from work. The tech workers flooding into the Mission
creates the profit motive for landlords to push people out. Whether the individual tech workers are
conscious of it or not, they are complicit in the process of gentrification. The Google bus protests

I like to think my life is a rather typical teenage life, however, there are many things about me that
are rather interesting. At a very young age, I was adopted by my parents, Mark and Karen. Ever
since then I have been raised on a farm along with my older sister, Bailey. I have gone to and been
raised up in a small church in Jeffersonville, Indiana known as Northside Church of Christ. Every
Sunday and Wednesday my family and I go to church. The family and friends I have made growing

person I am today. I have a passion for serving others and putting people before myself. I am

How Gentrification Is Damaging Neighborhoods
Gentrification is damaging neighborhoods because it forcibly displaces the lower income residents
on the streets to make room for luxurious more expensive apartments. The term gentrification means
to conform to middle–class taste, which is exactly what is happening to places like the Mission
District, Placita Olvera Street, East Los Angeles, and many more urban areas. Not only are our
neighborhoods being gentrified, but also so is our food.
Culture vulture, as defined in Urban Dictionary, means "Someone who steals traits, language and/or
fashion from another ethnic or social group in order to create their own identity." In urban and poor
neighborhoods you now see newer condos, stores, and restaurants. Great deals of middle to high–
income people think that they are helping our hoods, and making them safer. There are few hoods
that can be improved, but not with rent increase. The residents who live in these urban hoods already
moved there because of cheap rent, so to raise cost on them because hipsters want to steal their
culture is wrong. Theses hoods are not being made safer and nicer, they are being white washed.
When hipsters see a place that would look aesthetically pleasing for them to live, they give their
own personalization to something that did not ask to be changed.

Discuss the make–up of your central office and the ways roles are delegated in order to have a
smooth running central office that supports district mission and vision.
Our collective mission is 'to nurture and educate our children in accordance with all curriculum
standards to prepare them for responsible citizenship and success in life'. The district's strategic plan
was created with the community after holding several meetings with a variety of stakeholders and
demonstrates the community's values as well as integrating 21st century skills into the classroom so
students can succeed in a global economy. This was the first time our district included the
community in planning and the Superintendent and Director of Curriculum were new so it was a
positive change. I remember the notices we received via email encouraging teachers to attend,
however, many did not because our previous administration was very bold about punishing those

In the first chapter of "Christianity Rediscovered" by Vincent J. Donovan he is introducing us to the
idea that missionaries now have a poor reputation due to their history. He says "History has offered
the opportunity to deflect and distort the meaning of missionary work in every age". For a long time
a missionary was a person spreading the word of God and after years of doing so we have
diminished many different beliefs, practices, cultures and history. At the time it was thought to be
the right thing, to spread out and share the gospel to help people find meaning and acceptance. In
today's age a missionary is a lot of different things, in many cases it is more focused on the health
and physical wellbeing of the people. Many people still share the gospel through missionary work,
but in other cases it is more of a material aid. Donovan introduces the book as a voyage of discovery
he wants us to put our normal beliefs aside to see his perspective of living a missionaries life and
struggling with the fact of if you are helping or hurting.

The movie The Mission brought to light many of the issues that the developing world has faced in
the past and continues to face today. The indigenous people of Paraguay and Southern Brazil, the
Guarani, faced terrifying encounters with the powerful European colonizers during the period of
European colonialism. Many innocent people on both sides of the battle lost their lives. The Jesuits
were a Christian missionary group that brought the Good News of Jesus Christ, all the while helping
to defend the indigenous people by respecting their culture and human dignity, also referred to as
"inculturation". The Jesuit presence paved the way for later ideas such as liberation theology and the
post–colonial theory. The Commonweal article, "What We Can and Cannot Fix: Rewatching The
Mission prompts viewers to reassess the film and notice other possible issues that were related to the
Jesuit's presence.
The Jesuits had a huge presence during the brutal attacks that occurred between the European

The cultural means relating to the ideas, customs, and social behavior of a society. Therefore, when
doing world mission we must be able to relate to the culture in which we are ministering to. We are
not to forget who we are as far as culturally, but we are to have the knowledge of that particular
culture. For example, in Chapter 3 in our textbook, it speaks of Patrick, an English slave who
escaped from Ireland and later returned as a missionary. Being that he "understood the people and
their language, their issues, and their ways", served as a channel for the people to easily receive
from him. Being able to relate to a group of people, having the knowledge of that particular group,
and being able to understand the group in which you are ministering to is very essential in doing

with either the Portuguese or Spanish. There are also governors who find them dangerous. Working
as opponents, they make it a goal to shut down missionaries and capture or kill the Guarani. In the
end, they are successful and the movie documents the fall of the mission, and the deaths of Mendezo

The process for acceptance by the missionaries involved him having to read the bible, become

just socialized with them, whether by playing with children, helping the women care for them, going
to hunt with the men, and helping to build the church and housing. In the end, he became a warrior
