3. The body and the movement
• We make many different movements.
• Some are voluntary movements, for
example when we pick
up a glass.
• Others are involuntary.
• Our muscles and bones
work together to move
our body.
4. The skeleton
• The skeleton is made up of all the bones
in our body.
• The skeleton has two important functions:
- It holds the body up and gives it
shape.
- It protects some organs like the
brain, the heart and the lungs.
5. The skeleton
• The skeleton is made up of bones and
cartilages.
• Bones are hard and rigid. They are
different in shape and size.
• Cartilages are soft and flexible.
We have cartilages at the end
of some bones like the nose.
6. The joints
• A joint is a place where two bones meet.
• Some joints can move, for example:
- The neck, the joint between the head
and the trunk.
- The shoulder, elbow
and wrist are some joints
in our arms.
- The hip, knee and ankle,
are some joints in our legs.
