Weighing OER: Final Project
1. Brief Observations of Open Education Resources
Lindsay Christopher's Final OER Training Project
March 2015
2. OER HAS
Possibilities!
Support!
Safety Goggles!
Brains!
So What?
With a little hard work and internet access,
we can create and sustain a socially just and
socially connected educational model.
Students and teachers can feel supported by
the wealth of quality materials available.
Worried that course construction might land a
splinter in your eye? CC licensing provides the
goggles needed to ensure materials are safe to
use and reuse and remix.
Two heads are better than one, so imagine
what can happen when materials are created
by a diverse array of international minds.
Brilliant!
3. OER ALSO HAS
Trust issues
Developing math skills
An unsizable bank account
Fear of commitment
So?
Not all materials are fully developed
or guaranteed to meet quality
standards
Learning assessment and outcome
achievement is largely unknown
No money, mo problems
Say yes to licensing, say no to going
back
4. Despite the challenges of OER, the bottom line is
Sharing is caring
Whether infusing courses or overhauling curriculum, OER cares for
students' pocketbooks, expands access to quality resources, and increases
instructors' creativity and range of materials. It's the just thing to do.
