Who are they?
What do they do?
• EMI (electric and musical industry) – they are
a British multinational company. It’s the forth
largest business group of record labels in the
recording industry and was, however isn’t any
longer on of the big four record companies.
They are a major publishing group as well as a
record label.
3. HISTORY
• EMI was formed in march 1931 by the merger
of the Columbia graphophone company, with
its record label HMV (His Masters Voice). The
new vertically integrated company produced
sound recordings as well as recording and
playback equipment.
4. DOWNFALL
Downfall of EMI
• On 12th November, 2011 it was announced
that EMI has sold it’s recorded music
operations to Universal Music group for $1.9
billion and its publishing operations to Sony
for $2.2 billion.
