2. Introduction After getting a brief understand about what music videos are ,and their purpose, if I am to make a music video myself, having to know and understand the codes and conventions I also need to be familiar with the institutions. Music Institutions are essential to understand as they are the companies that fund and create the music videos that we consumers watch, this presentation expands upon existing institutions including EMI and Sony Music.
3. Sony Music Entertainment Sony Music Entertainment is the second-largest global recorded music company. The company, which evolved into Sony Music, was founded in 1929 as the American Record Corporation through the merger of several smaller record companies. Sony renamed the record company Sony Music Entertainment on January 1, 1991, fulfilling the terms set under the 1988 buyout, which granted only a transitional license to the CBS trademark. To replace the CBS label, Sony reintroduced the Columbia label worldwide, which it previously held in the united States and Canada only. It is based in New York and artist like: Avril Lavinge Michael Jackson Work alongside Sony Music Entertainment.
4. Warner Music Group Warner Music Group was founded in 1958, during this time it was known as Warner Bros Records but was sold to another company called Seven Art Production in the 1960’s. As the years progresses Warner Group has evolved and built a up status within the music industry. In 2004 the company renamed to Warner Music Group as it be came an independent holder. Like Universal music group and Sony their headquarters are located in New York. Artist like: Paramore Ashley Tisdale Coolio Work alongside Warner Music Group.
5. Universal Music Group This particular institution is one of the largest business in the music industry founded in 1934 as DECCA records USA but developed in 1990. After six years, the first UMG incarnation was formed which was then further developed to what we are familiar with as Universal Music Group. The headquarters are based in the state of New York, in the United States. UMG has assigned well – known artists within the music industry examples are; 50 Cent Kanye West ABBA
6. EMIMusicPublishing EMI Music Publishing is the forth largest music company within the recording industry and is a British music company. EMI was founded in 1931 once known as Electric and Musical Industries Ltd by the merger of the Columbia Graphophone Company and the Gramophone Company, with its "His Master's Voice" record label, firms that have a history extending back to the origins of recorded sound.
