The Walt Disney Company is one of the popular and successful organizations in the world. The
business was started from 1923 at California and it is still very trendy in games, entertainments,
resorts and destinations, television programs, theme parks and in movies (Pride, Hughes, & Kapoor,
2010). The Disney Company is a diversified international entertainment organization with functions
in four principal business parts which are consumer products, parks and resort, media networks and
studio entertainment. The firm has 11 theme parks across the globe, cable television network such as
ESPN and Disney channel. Similarly, the company has an intercontinental website in 37 nations.
Disney was chosen for this research as there is huge information regarding it (The Walt Disney
Company, 2016). The aim of this paper is thus to explore the organizational structure of Disney
including its use of teams.

significantly, resulting in a high concentration of ownership. In 2011, only six media companies
were responsible for 90% of the things we saw and heard on a daily basis compared to fifty
companies in 1983 (Lutz, 2012). The Walt Disney Company is one of them. In this report, we will
take a look at how the Company has succeeded in growing into the media corporation it is today.
A Look into the Company's History
The Walt Disney Company was first founded in 1923 by Walt and Roy Disney (Wasko, 2011). It
was first known under the name of the Disney Brothers Studio, before changing its name in 1986
(Disney's history of magic: Timeline, 2013) (Timeline, 2013). In 1927, Mickey Mouse was created
and soon became the symbol of the Company (Wasko, 2011). Internationally recognized for its
animation, the Studio was the first to present a ''full–color cartoon'', Flowers and Trees, which later

Disney Studio 's main focus is on idea generation and storytelling through film and animation. In
order to be successful in its mission, Disney needs to be a strong, financially stable company, and
judging by its recent blockbuster hits, it is obvious Disney is achieving that mission. Disney's
strengths lie most notably in its ability to appeal to different crowds through a variety of studios, its

Walt also attended night classes at the Chicago Art Institute just before he dropped out at the age of
16 to join the army. He was rejected from the U.S Army for being underage and instead joined the
Red Cross. Walt lived in France for a year working as an ambulance driver, until he moved back to

billion dollars. The company has continues to grow and over the last 5–10 years have aggressively
