Book Review- One Crazy Summer
Book Review– One Crazy Summer The genre historical fiction focuses young readers to inform them about historical and significant cultural events in
history, but to do in a way that is comfortable for readers in this age group. One Crazy Summer is a good example of young adult literature of
highlighting cultural/historical events and entertaining to its audience. Two characteristics that make this a greatnovel for middle school readers is that
1– It encourages further inquiry( historical) and 2–The situations and characters are relatable (Y/A novel).
The story is set in 1968 in Oakland, California three young girls Delphine, Vonetta, and Fern who leave their father in Brooklyn to go Oakland to
meet their mother who abandoned them. Oakland at this time is a boiling pot with political and racial turmoil, with the Black Panthers at the head of
a movement fighting for civil rights. In a historical context many readers at this age level have not been exposed to the many freedom fighter
organizations like The Black Panthers, middle school students are usually only exposed to a limited number of figures in the civil rights movement
like Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X. In One Crazy Summer, the racial and social tones are very accurate for the time, this is something that also
resembles in today's society since race relations have improved but as still has a long way to go. This story gives a nice glimpse of the societal issues
of the time with the mention of rioting in

A Model Of Governance Through Capitalistic Ideals
Want to know a little known fact? Local government is one of the most influential factors in the American way of life, but it is not even mentioned in
the U.S. Constitution. Essentially the Constitution set up national and state governments but leaves local governments out creating a gray area. This
area has been filled with many different methods and types of government. One of the ideas which pertains to filling this gray area is the Tiebout
model. In essence this is a model of governance through capitalistic ideals. In the Tiebout model cities and metros are divided up into
micro–jurisdiction entice or deter specific citizens based on the jurisdicition's services and taxes. This train of thought assumes things about the people
who live in these cities. These assumptions, applied to a simple majority, would surely ensure this methods success, but it may not be feasible. Because
many dislike the Tiebout method revision can be made and there are numerous alternatives also.
In order for the Tiebout model to be successful, at least two assumptions must be made about citizens. The first assumption that must be made is that
the average, or at least the majority, of citizens are both informed and motived to stay up to date on policies. Each citizens would need to commit to
enough different news sources to understand local politics and its entirety. This applies to obvious things like watching tax changes in theirlocal
government, as well as other areas. It also entail

Design Strategy For A Skywalk At The Royal Oak Campus
ABSTRACT The design strategy for a skywalk at the Royal Oak Campus entails the use of ramps and steps rising to 5 meters and ramps having a
gradient of 1:10.The skywalk will link the faculty parking and the college with a 3metres wide ramp,5 meters wide steps and a slab width of 6500
meters 500metres above the ground level with a building line on each side of 6 meters. Pedestrians and cyclists will use the proposed Skywalk it
will be situated to allow pedestrians to cross Washington Avenue because there are no nearby roads to necessitate a road for access. This will let
pedestrians cross safely without slowing down the traffic. Upon the approval of the design proposal, our architect designed a skywalk for Washington
Avenue. The designer worked on this project over the course of seven weeks. The architect interviewed ten people on the preferred features of the
proposed skywalk. A survey was also undertaken on the zoning information for the city of Washington in order to determine the maximum garage size
possible. The plan designer compiled the clients' information as well as the zoning information to determine the actual size of the parking lot, designed
the floor plan and completed the report. The recommended design for the skywalk, which is a modification of the design found at http:/
/www.aardvark–house–plans.com. The design provides ample space for pedestrians to walk through. The skywalk features a two–sided walk that can
accommodate light traffic of bicycles and

The Bay Area Technology Boom Continues
Define the Problem
As the bay area technology boom continues, so has one of residents' basic needs: the cost of housing. According to U.S. Census data five of the top
seven fastest growing counties in California are in the bay area, with the fastest growing county being Alameda (2010). Since the 2010 census, it was
estimated Alameda would add a little over 100,000 residents by August of 2014. With the increased population the cost of living has also increased,
especially housing costs. From January 2014 to January 2015, the average rent in Oakland increased by approximately 20 percent in a city struggling to
deal with housing demands (Zillow, 2015).
The core cause of this problem stems from the issues of gentrification. The merriam–webster dictionary defines gentrification as "the process of renewal
and rebuilding accompanying the influx of middle–class or affluent people into deteriorating areas that often displaces poorer residents" (2015). San
Francisco has also seen increasing rents prices as median rent in the city increased approximately 16 percent last year (Zillow, 2015). As rent prices
also soar to record highs in San Francisco residents have flocked to the east bay to try and find cheaper rents. Along with the influx of new affluent
residents come shops, stores and restaurants. A recent article in the San Francisco Chronicle's food blog "Inside Scoop" named four new restaurants
opening in Oakland's Temescal district, a neighbor hood that has rapidly changed over

RUNNING HEAD: OAKLAND COUNTY: A LESSON IN FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY Oakland County: A Lesson in Fiscal Responsibility Percola
Brooks Davenport University Nonprofit Accounting Accounting 742 Prof. Linda Pitsch April 15, 2011 Abstract Oakland County is one of the more
prosperous counties in the State of Michigan. While it has suffered along with other counties, it continues to balance its budget and successfully reduce
its expenditures in response to the constricting financial environment engulfing many parts of the country. County officials have developed a proactive
strategy in dealing with revenue shortfall, and increasing retiree and employee benefit costs. Long–range planning initiatives, as... Show more content

The efficiency of the County's financial management have allowed it to maintain the AAA bond rating, which allows borrowing at the lowest
possible interest rate. This saves the County millions in future borrowing costs. Government Structure The General Fund is Oakland County's
principal operating fund. It has increased by a total of $40.2 million since 2001. This increase can be primarily attributed to County officials' efforts
to limit spending, and require internal service funds to absorb rate increases instead of passing that cost on to the General Fund. Issuance of debt is
also limited. While the County has authority to issue up to $5.8 billion in debt (10% of its State Equalized Value), the actual outstanding debt is $809.9
million which represents 14% of the permissible amount. Other types of funds are used in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
(GAAP). Special revenue funds record activities funded by restricted monies such as Public Health, Friend of the Court, and all grant–funded activities.
Debt Service Funds record transactions related to assessment of tax levies and payment of principal and interest of long–tern debt. Capital project
funds account for the purchase or construction of major facilities such as buildings, drains, and sewer projects. Enterprise funds account for functions
supported by user fees. These funds operate similar to

Graduation Speech : My New College Environment Essay
Eighteen candles blazed before my eyelids as family and friends chimed Las Mananitas around my twin sister and I. The song concluded with
cheers and chants from all sides, as my cousin yells out, "Make a wish!" I closed my eyes and repeated the same wish I had for the last three years.
Taking a deep breath in, it whispered from the recesses of my mind, I wish to change. When I entered my teen years the stronger my wish for a
transformation of some kind, physical or emotional grew. I cannot pinpoint the moment I stopped liking the type of person I was and spent high
searching for communities hoping they would be my catalyst with no avail. As I entered college, I hoped Los Angeles would be my place of
transformation, but adjusting to my new college environment proved challenging and as the semester wore on my wish became a faint memory.
Although I was only eight hours away from the Bay Area the homesickness never left me. Longing for my large intimate family and realized I would
needed to find a community at my college if I were to survive emotionally. I attended meetings for different cultural clubs, the only places I felt
accepted due to the lack of cultural diversity on campus. They were enjoyable yet lacked the intimacy I craved. I wanted a place I could call
home, where I could grow, challenge myself, and contribute to the campus environment. When I heard about Sigma Lambda Gamma Sorority being the
only multicultural Greek organization at my institution I was intrigued.

Descriptive Essay About My Neighborhood
My neighborhood has been many places in the short 15 years of my life. Many consider their neighborhood to include where they went to school, but
no matter where my house happened to be, I went to school in Alameda. My three person family consisting of myself, my mother and my aunt, are
closer to poor than rich, so while we could never afford to live on the little island, some of my other family members could so I used their address and
attended their schools. I went to school, made friends, and found a community in Alameda, but my neighborhood is in Oakland and as such, my
community is there too. The two have little in common as the: people, atmosphere, and average income couldn't be more different. Consequently it
is for the same reasons that I am treated differently in the two places that I call home. Every neighborhood and street in Oakland could be identical,
as seen looking through outside eyes. The streets are unfriendly, enveloped in poverty, filled with people of color, and loud to an average person
driving by. Looking from the inside, however, is different because when I'm not across the Fruitvale Bridge in school, I'm here, experiencing the
livelihood and culture of my town, my default neighborhood. I'm biracial, though for most on the island it's easier to maintain that I just Black, and I
have lived with my white mother and aunt in Oakland since I was born. If I walk down Idlewood, a street parallel to Oakland's infamous MacArthur
Boulevard, I am average;

And he sits on the bench and starts to tear up. While he is sitting there crying he starts to think why all this bad stuff is happening to him.
He wipes his tears off and goes out onto the gym floor and starts warming up away from all the other players. Then out of nowhere there was this one
kid named lucas livingston comes over to the other court with him and starts to talk to him and i said to myself finally someone nice comes upon me.

In 2016, BeyoncГ© Knowles–Carter appeared at the Super Bowl's halftime show, performing her latest song "Formation." During her performance,
some saw her outfit as threatening because she decided to wear a costume similar to a black militia group. She praised the group throughout her
performance which in turn, upset the audience. Dancing as the people, who many saw as a threat to national security, did not sit well. Black pride was
a dominant component within her performance because she shows how history was created by the African Americans. This lead to a big controversy.
Many interpreted her performance as an attack or protest, but it was a performance of paying homage to many great African–Americans that are against

The Black Panther Party
The Black Panthers
The Black Panther Party is a self–defense, African American revolutionary party. This party was founded in Oakland, California by Huey Newton
and Bobby Seale during the 1960's. This party was dedicated to combating white oppression, and did so by the use of both peaceful and violent
actions. Looking back at the history of the Black Panthers, it can be clearly seen that the peaceful idea of equality for all spawned this group and their
violent actions for the main reason that they were willing to do anything to defend their beliefs.
One of the greatest reasons for the violent actions of the party, should be credited to the co–founder named Huey Newton. Huey Newton was a
rebellious individual who was suspected of committing many crimes. As minister of defense within the party, Huey was seen as a leader to the
members of the organization. In an interview with Newton, he made clear what he wanted the party to stand for, and what they needed to do to
achieve this. In an excerpt from the interview transcript, he says that "there are two kinds of nationalism, revolutionary and reactionary nationalism.
Revolutionary nationalism is first dependent upon a People's revolution with the end goal being the people in power... If you are a reactionary
nationalist you are not a socialist and your end goal is the oppression of the people." (Newton 1). From this transcript, it can be inferred what kind of
nationalism Huey wants the party to follow. He wants the people to gain power through the use of violence And extremism. As the interview continues,
Huey states the views of the Black Panther Party by saying "The Black Panther Party, which is a revolutionary group of black people, realizes that
we have an identity. We have to realize our black heritage in order to give us strength to move on and progress" (Newton 1). By saying this, Huey is
announcing to the world that the Black Panthers are going to cause a dramatic change, and implies that they will do whatever is necessary as long as
they have the strength. The cause for violence from peaceful ideas is largely due to the leadership. The minister of Education George Murray made
many speeches that supported the violent actions, and encouraged them. Within

The Relationships Between Cities And Professional Sports...
The relationships between cities and professional sports teams is a complex one that is fraught with many misgivings. Civic pride is a sign of
community strength and solidarity, consequently it goes hand in hand with pride for local sports teams. In the city of Oakland there have traditionally
been the Oakland Raiders (an NFL team), the Golden State Warriors (and NBA team whose city ties are ambiguous), and the Oakland Athletics.
Recently two of these teams have committed to leaving the city of Oakland for supposedly greener pastures in Las Vegas and across the bay in San
Francisco. Oakland sports fans are known as being some of the most committed fans in the country; correspondingly, to lose two of your longtime

What they find is that many people have a budget for entertainment and therefore money spent at a sporting event is money that would otherwise have
been spent at some other entertainment outlet in the city. They call this phenomena the "substitution effect" and accordingly, it is now included in
most all stadium development proposals. In Oakland the situation is no different. While many Oakland A's fans do hail from municipalities outside
of Oakland, the Bay Area as a whole is quite mobile in particular when it comes to entertainment. These non Oakland residents may be going out to
eat or drink in Oakland instead of going to a ball game therefore the substitution effect would render the new stadiums impact rather minimal. At the
present time the Bay Area is already plagued with traffic and public transportation issues as the population has outgrown the systems currently in
place. The Peralta admissions and records offices where the Oakland A's would like to build their ballpark, is served, as well as bordered by interstate

The Skycoaster was a very intimidating ride in which you would be pulled up 40 feet high and then swung like a pendulum at relatively fast speeds.
What made the situation worse was that I absolutely hated roller–coasters. As we were approaching the Skycoaster, I witnessed another instructor from
a different group on the Skycoaster; he was screaming his lungs out. At last, we arrived at the dreadful Skycoaster. My palms were sweating, my body
temperature skyrocketed, and my stomach felt like butterflies were ramming from the inside–out. We had to assemble and wear a full–body harness
that literally felt like a full–steel armor set from the medieval age. My instructor led our group to the Skycoaster several yards forward, and nearly
everyone was ecstatic to go on the ride except for me and a few other kids. Somehow, my instructor noticed myanxiety, and decided to choose me
as the first person to ride the Skycoaster. I had to choose now whether I really wanted to go or not. My mind was going haywire, one side of me
told me that I should not go and that the frightening experience would scar me for life; the other side told me that I need to go or else the other kids
would make fun of me. However, I succumbed to the peer pressure, and I realized that this experience is a once–in–a–lifetime experience, so I finally
decided to ride the Skycoaster. I hooked on the rope, then I was suddenly yanked up 40 feet high in the air. I thought to myself, "There is no turning
back now, so might as well get over it." Suddenly, I pulled the cord and my body swung at extremely fast speeds like a ragdoll. It was an addranealine
rush for the first few swings, and after those swings, I regained my senses. At the end,

A Fan Of The Oakland Raiders
I have been a fan of the Oakland Raiders since I was born. The city of Oakland has a rich history. It is the birthplace of the Black Panther Party and
the home of many influential artists, such as Tupac, MC Hammer, and Too Short. The Raiders shouldn't leave this city because of the culture that has

So, in the long run the Raiders would be making more money by not moving to Vegas. Staying in Oakland will be the best thing to do for the fans as

Raiders fans are some of the best in all of sports. They will travel to games all over the country to watch their team play, and they sell out games
even when the team is bad. The Raiders organization has already once devastated fans, by moving to Los Angeles right when they were getting
good in the 1980s. They went on to win one championship in their decade in LA. When they returned to Oakland the Raiders were never the same,
only going to one more Super Bowl before their playoff drought started. For 14 seasons, the fans have suffered, yet they still have been going to
games faithfully. This past season was the first season they made the playoffs in those 14 years, and it ended in heartbreak. With all these rumors
about moving away from Oakland, us fans couldn't even fully enjoy the spectacular season the team had, in fear that the team that finally is good

Socioeconomic Status And Quality Of Education
In an ideal world, socioeconomic status would not affect the quality of education one would receive. Everyone would have the same opportunities to
do well in life and rise up the social ladder. Durkheim (1893) asserted that with universally great public education, economic opportunities would be
relatively equal. Even with equal education levels, there would still exist some inequality in the form of "legitimate" inequality (Durkheim 1893),
but the excellent public education would level the playing field, so to speak. However, our world is not an ideal world. We live in a society where
money talks and how rich a person is determines the caliber of their educational background. Research has shown that a child from a high income
family will have a better life chance and that a child from a low–income family has less of a chance to move up the ranks. In my paper, I will argue that
there is a correlation between socioeconomic status and quality of education in that the higher socioeconomic status a person has, the better education
opportunities they will be able to obtain.
Statistically data from Piedmont, CA and East Oakland, CA demonstrates the idea that educational quality and opportunities is closely related to
socioeconomic status. Piedmont, CA is a wealthy city surrounded by Oakland, a not so well off area. To clarify, themedian household income of
Piedmont is $207,222 while East Oakland's median household income is $56,944 (US Census 2013). There is an extremely steep

you get as your team celebrates after making the game winning shot or play is exhilarating and being there live to enjoy it is unforgettable. Aside
from the performances of the athletes, the sportscape or "physical environment in which a service is delivered", plays a significant factor in the overall
sporting event experience. Beijing's National Stadium ("Birds Nest") is one of the most intriguing and well–designed sportscape in world, while the
Arthur Ashe Stadium is one of the most poorly designed. There are stark differences between each sportscape and these differences make the... Show

The stadium actually resembles a bird's nest. Really, it is quite fascinating how a structure of that size can be made to resemble something so ordinary.
Surprisingly, according to architects and engineers, the circular shape of the stadium is supposed to represent heaven and is inspired by Chinese–style
crazed pottery (Design–build, 2016). The walk from the parking lot to the stadium would be absolutely breathe taking. Aesthetically, not many stadiums
/arenas come close. Looks are not everything and next to aesthetics is accessibility.
Another key component to a sportscape is accessibility. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) "was passed in 1990, and gives mandates
about construction, design and renovation of public accommodations that allow access to people with disabilities (Clow, Fetchko and Roy, 2013).
Although, this law does not extend to stadiums outside the United States, the "Birds Nest" has set a new standard for other to follow. The stadium
has more than 200 wheelchair seats intended for the disabled, which "architectural experts think that it not only is a symbol building of the 2008
Olympics but also set a very good example to the world 's architectural history" (Travel China Guide, 2016). Not only is it a kind gesture to provided
ample space for the disable, more importantly, it shows how important attending live events are for those who are disable and how vital it is to meet
their needs.

Film Analysis: The Black Panther Party
Over my educational career I have not learned much about the Black Panther Party, most of what I have learned was from watching videos and
documentaries on Malcolm X. I never learned a whole lot about them though my schools. The little that I did learn was that they were a more
aggressive group that tried to show force by caring weapon. Other than that I had never been properly informed about how they started and what they
stood for. After watching this video it has changed my entire perspective on the movement. The difference between what I knew and what I know
now is pretty different, the reason the Black Panthers carried gun was because of the brutality that was being brought upon their community by the
police. They were legally allowed to carry weapon and would follow police around to make sure that when African Americans were stopped they were
not subjected to brutality. Another thing that was different from what I knew was the massive support they had from not only black groups but
different races and different groups from all around the world. I also did not know that the black panthers were and international group. The difference
from what we learn about the group to what they really stood for is astounding. What surprised me most about this documentary was the pure bravery

thought coming into the testing room was there is not going to be enough space for me and the complete set of computer items. But after taking
different kinds of test, I find that the desk space provided is sufficient for a student to comfortably take a test. I only needed to do a little
rearrangement and there is enough space for me to comfortably take the test. In each of these rooms, there are seven security cameras. All security

Black Communities During The 1960's
During the 1960's, there were important events, actions, and organizations that changed the black communities' lives. The 1960's are an important time
period because of the Civil Rights Movement. During that time period, the black community's were able to vote (Voting Rights of 1965) and the Civil
Rights Act of 1968. Between 1965 and 1968, the Black Panthers Party was created. Huey Newton and Bobby Seale created the Black Panther Party in
Oakland, California in 1966. The Black Panther Party was original called, 'The Black Panther Party for Self– Defense'; they implemented Malcolm–X
philosophy of self–defense because during the time The Black Panthers were created there were high rates of police brutality towards the black
community, which meant that Black people were being killed at random with no reason. Before The Black Panther Party had a name, Newton and
Seale created the Ten Point Program, which explained what they wanted, and what they believed in. Newton and Seale both knew that they could not
present their Ten Point Program without a name and they came up with the Black Panther Party (B.P.P). The Ten Point Program consists of ten points
which are Freedom, Full employment, an end of robbery by the white man of the black community, decent housing, Education which teaches black
history, black men to be excepted from military service, stop the murder of black people, wanting all black men to immediately release from all federal

Oakland County: A Short Story
The Case of Oakland County
It was a seemingly calm and peaceful fall night when a soft murmur echoed throughout the damp forest. "I can't believe I just did this," hung in the
cool air and was carried away by the light wind. A motionless body lay on the damp forest floor, blood trickling onto the ground and soaking into the
soil. Loud footsteps became fainter and fainter as they left the corpse and went far away. Lily Lucen, a very depressed ex–wife, was drinking hot
coffee while relaxing on her sofa. She never quite understood why her former husband Luke went off to marry Kristina, and she was unsurprisingly
very resentful towards them. Lily daydreamed about the life she and Luke could have had, with their two beautiful children Casey and Alex. ... Show

They had lost their own mother, and their father seemed to never be around. Casey, being a rebellious 15–year–old, seemed to have completely
changed as a person. She wiped tears out of her sea blue eyes and dried her pale white face. Alex, however hit hard at first, was much more serious
and developed a fresh hatred toward Kristina. He never realized he could hate someone as much as he hated Kristina, as she seemed completely
unfazed with what happened, even though she caused Lily to take her own life. Casey, getting ready for bed, had remembered she needed to work
on her research project. She had always done very poorly in school, but decided to turn things around in respect for her mother. Her computer had
broken down, so she decided to use Alex's. Her mouth almost hit the floor when she saw what he had been searching online. She stared at the article

participation rates of the DUBF program. A good way to accomplish this is through promotion. Promoting the the DUFB program and what is has to

months prior to the beginning of the farmers market season, the community dietitian will have developed numerous promotional advertisements . With
the help of an assistant, the advertisements will be sent out and displayed at local businesses, community centers, government agencies and libraries
within Oakland County. Promotional marketing types will include newsletters, flyers, brochures, and websites. Each advertisement material will
include information about the farmers market, such as day and time of operation and location of market, as well as information on the DUFB program,

Analysis Of The Movie ' Fruitvale Station '
New Year's Day, 2009, a man is brutally shot by the BART Police of Oakland, California. Fruitvale Station, written and directed by Ryan Coogler, took
audiences by surprise as it resonated with twenty–two year old Oscar Grant, a man who was shot down by the BART Police. This movie takes viewers
on an emotional expedition as it takes a peek into the life and death of Oscar Grant and his family. The struggles of originating from an
African–American background become apparent as Oscar Grant struggles with steering away from racial stereotypes and the misunderstandings of
racial profiling. As the movie begins, the audience notices that Oscar Grant is portrayed as a man who is loving and caring toward his family, but
also has a history of convictions and drug dealing experiences. As the movie continues, Grant is shown as being a doer. Acting on situations without
much thought and logic, his life has been full of risks. By depicting Grant as having two completely different sides to him, the director does a great
job in displaying his struggles with himself as he tries to become a better man for the sake of his family. The audience is allowed to see the
humanization of Grant as the film proceeds. His character is portrayed as flawed and misunderstood which relates to the viewers on a more personal
level. The audience notices the shrinking gap between themselves and Grant as the film continues and takes them deeper into Grant's life. The film as a

Essay On Staying In Oakland
Staying in Oakland will be the best solution financially. Oakland has a booming economy that continues to grow at a rapid pace. Many new
companies setting up headquarters in Oakland, such as Uber, are making the prices of living in Oakland rise higher and higher because many rich
tech people are moving in rapidly. As a result, Oakland is becoming a much nicer place than it once was. By staying put, the Raiders would benefit
from more expensive tickets due to Oakland becoming a wealthy city. Also, the Raiders fan base in the Alameda County is second to none, as they
have been selling out games for years. This will also help drive up the ticket prices because there will be lots of demand for the tickets, thus raising the
prices even further.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By moving there, you will be losing money in the long run. Initially, it will be more profitable than staying in Oakland because most of the
stadium funding will be from the casino tycoons and tickets for the first season there will be at an all time high. But, after the first season, less
and less people will come to games because the novelty of the Raiders in Vegas will wear off and Las Vegas isn't a football town. There aren't
many true sports fans in Vegas who will come to every game faithfully like residents of the Alameda County do. A great example of this is when
the Rams moved to Los Angeles last season. Everybody was extremely excited for the Rams coming to LA and as a result, ticket prices boomed and
the Rams were one of the most profitable teams in the NFL. But, as the season progressed, less and less people went to the games, and the Rams
began to self destruct, firing their coach mid–season. So, in the long run the Raiders would be making more money by not moving to Vegas. Staying
in Oakland will be the best thing to do for the fans as

The Night Of The Warriors
I was standing on the logo in Oracle Arena, home of The Warriors. The bright lights and vibrant blue and yellow surrounded me. Then it came to me,
i'm really going to play here. Nobody was in the 20,000 seats besides the other five teams ready to play and their parents.
I got the chills thinking I was really going to play on the same court that NBA players play on. The best part was if we win the tournament then the
parents and players both get tickets for the game later on. I laced up my all white sneakers and thought to myself "it's gametime."

the tickets. She emphasized "I knew you could do it son" and hugged as if there was an an anaconda around my body. She then said ecstatically "well I
know what we are doing later." I said in response "let 's do it!"

As we enter the arena once again, the first thing i could smell was the sweet cinnamon from the churros. As my mom and I were finding our seat, I

had just made a game–winner. Once it was halftime, my mom and I went to get food. She decided that she wanted street tacos loaded with Carne Asada.
I decided I wanted a ginormous, greasy slice of pizza. As they cut the slice my mouth start watering and i could smell the cheese and pepperoni as if it

Sociological Perspective
Coming from AJP, I needed to cross Fifth Avenue to start my walk, and like what I had to do every day when I had class at that building, I found
myself once again waiting for the walk sign to appear across the street. This Sociological Perspective of seeing society in our everyday lives showed
how the smallest personal choices, even the action of walking, is affected and shaped by society and how it functions. As I was walking through Fifth
Avenue, I noticed that there were buildings at every corner of this long street. Students, some wearing Carlow gear while others wore Pitt gear,
populated the sidewalks, conversing with other students. As I got farther into Fifth Avenue, I could see UPMC hospitals and signs with directions of
entrances and parking lots. People populated the end of the sidewalk in this street, waiting at the Bus Stop sign. In the area of Forbes Avenue, there
were a lot of restaurants, and I noticed many students walking to get in and eat.
The pedestrian traffic was very similar to the automobile traffic on the street. Through the Sociological Perspective of seeing the general in the
particular, I was able to identify the general patterns of the group of pedestrians walking on the sides, including myself. There is a systematic way in
society that traffic runs, and as I was walking, I, along with the rest of the pedestrians near me, looked both ways of the street before crossing at the
end of the streets at Forbes. At one point in my walk near in Forbes,

Black Panther Party Reflection
My experience at the Oakland Museum was educational, I learn about the history of Asian American were mistreated and placed to work on the
railroads. The artwork I saw at the Museum was quite amazing that look quite realistic. It was a photograph of lady holding a child during the time of
the Great Depression. Another thing I saw was The Black Panther Party exhibit it was quite small, but I learn that African American does not want to
be seen as second class citizen and being disrespected. This connects to our class in a way it relates to the documentary that we watched about the
Black Panther Party. The Black Panther Party is a movement that revolutionized the Black community like the Black Lives Matter movement that is
around today. This particular movement help fund a breakfast program for low income family which it is a model used in public schools. Lastly, I sat
on a half opened airplane and imagining I was an immigrant coming to the United States looking for new opportunities like the War and Peace
documentary I watched for a homework assignment. Overall, I enjoy the Oakland Museum. The second event I attended was the no A's movement. I
did not really went there close enough since I was in a rush to get to work. However, I took a quick second to take a picture of the event. The
movement is not that big compared to the Black Panther Party movement in the early 1990's where Huey, one of the controversial figures in the party.

AAS 385: Urban History
31 March 2016 The movement of African American migrants out of the South and into northern California laid the foundation for the development of
the Black Panther Party (BPP), which served as a voice for the black community. With this new wave of black migrant families into California came a
new, younger generation whose Southern roots had not yet been formed. As young migrants assimilated into their new environments, their exposure to
higher education mixed with the culture of Oakland to promote the formation of young black militants into a radicalized group. These black youth
benefited from the fact that California was the only state to pass the Master Plan in 1960, which promised to provide its residents higher education if
they had a high school diploma. The education system in East Bay, specifically, laid the foundation for black revolutionary thought in Oakland and
eventually the nation by promoting the development of a politicized community of black youth, ingraining black radical ideas into black students, and
increasing the socialization of blacks from different origins and backgrounds. The passing of the Master Plan in California led to the increase of black
students at East Bay colleges. After its passing, the population of black American students grew at an exponential rate as more and more

Pittsburgh the "Steel City", "City of Bridges", and the "City of Champions" was once considered to be disturbingly polluted. It is now more
environmentally friendly. Green buildings, less water pollution, and all the other things that make Pittsburgh better. The thesis statement goes here.
Pittsburgh geography created a strange city layout. George Woods and Thomas Vickroy created the layout of the Golden Triangle 1784. The design
was called the Woods–Vickroy double–grid plan. The Great of 1854 destroyed roughly 1,000 buildings and one–third of the Golden Triangle. Pittsburgh
is called the City of Bridges because it has 446 of them. The Smithfield Street Bridge is the oldest extant bridges. It was built from 1881 to 1883. It
was not the first bridge to built in that spot. The first bridge to built there was Pittsburgh first bridge, a wooden bridge designed by Lewis Wernwag.
That bridge was destroyed in the Great Fire. John Roebling's suspension bridge was built next. The bridge was destroyed a year later due to stability.
Then there are the "Three Sisters" bridges. Vernon Covell and his group of engineers plus an architect by the name Stanley Roush designed and built the

Before my eyelids blazed eighteen candles as family and friends chimed Las Mananitas around my twin sister and I. Cheers and chants from all

Book Review- One Crazy Summer

  • 1. Book Review- One Crazy Summer Book Review– One Crazy Summer The genre historical fiction focuses young readers to inform them about historical and significant cultural events in history, but to do in a way that is comfortable for readers in this age group. One Crazy Summer is a good example of young adult literature of highlighting cultural/historical events and entertaining to its audience. Two characteristics that make this a greatnovel for middle school readers is that 1– It encourages further inquiry( historical) and 2–The situations and characters are relatable (Y/A novel). The story is set in 1968 in Oakland, California three young girls Delphine, Vonetta, and Fern who leave their father in Brooklyn to go Oakland to meet their mother who abandoned them. Oakland at this time is a boiling pot with political and racial turmoil, with the Black Panthers at the head of a movement fighting for civil rights. In a historical context many readers at this age level have not been exposed to the many freedom fighter organizations like The Black Panthers, middle school students are usually only exposed to a limited number of figures in the civil rights movement like Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X. In One Crazy Summer, the racial and social tones are very accurate for the time, this is something that also resembles in today's society since race relations have improved but as still has a long way to go. This story gives a nice glimpse of the societal issues of the time with the mention of rioting in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. A Model Of Governance Through Capitalistic Ideals Want to know a little known fact? Local government is one of the most influential factors in the American way of life, but it is not even mentioned in the U.S. Constitution. Essentially the Constitution set up national and state governments but leaves local governments out creating a gray area. This area has been filled with many different methods and types of government. One of the ideas which pertains to filling this gray area is the Tiebout model. In essence this is a model of governance through capitalistic ideals. In the Tiebout model cities and metros are divided up into micro–jurisdiction entice or deter specific citizens based on the jurisdicition's services and taxes. This train of thought assumes things about the people who live in these cities. These assumptions, applied to a simple majority, would surely ensure this methods success, but it may not be feasible. Because many dislike the Tiebout method revision can be made and there are numerous alternatives also. In order for the Tiebout model to be successful, at least two assumptions must be made about citizens. The first assumption that must be made is that the average, or at least the majority, of citizens are both informed and motived to stay up to date on policies. Each citizens would need to commit to enough different news sources to understand local politics and its entirety. This applies to obvious things like watching tax changes in theirlocal government, as well as other areas. It also entail ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Design Strategy For A Skywalk At The Royal Oak Campus ABSTRACT The design strategy for a skywalk at the Royal Oak Campus entails the use of ramps and steps rising to 5 meters and ramps having a gradient of 1:10.The skywalk will link the faculty parking and the college with a 3metres wide ramp,5 meters wide steps and a slab width of 6500 meters 500metres above the ground level with a building line on each side of 6 meters. Pedestrians and cyclists will use the proposed Skywalk it will be situated to allow pedestrians to cross Washington Avenue because there are no nearby roads to necessitate a road for access. This will let pedestrians cross safely without slowing down the traffic. Upon the approval of the design proposal, our architect designed a skywalk for Washington Avenue. The designer worked on this project over the course of seven weeks. The architect interviewed ten people on the preferred features of the proposed skywalk. A survey was also undertaken on the zoning information for the city of Washington in order to determine the maximum garage size possible. The plan designer compiled the clients' information as well as the zoning information to determine the actual size of the parking lot, designed the floor plan and completed the report. The recommended design for the skywalk, which is a modification of the design found at http:/ /www.aardvark–house–plans.com. The design provides ample space for pedestrians to walk through. The skywalk features a two–sided walk that can accommodate light traffic of bicycles and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Bay Area Technology Boom Continues Define the Problem As the bay area technology boom continues, so has one of residents' basic needs: the cost of housing. According to U.S. Census data five of the top seven fastest growing counties in California are in the bay area, with the fastest growing county being Alameda (2010). Since the 2010 census, it was estimated Alameda would add a little over 100,000 residents by August of 2014. With the increased population the cost of living has also increased, especially housing costs. From January 2014 to January 2015, the average rent in Oakland increased by approximately 20 percent in a city struggling to deal with housing demands (Zillow, 2015). The core cause of this problem stems from the issues of gentrification. The merriam–webster dictionary defines gentrification as "the process of renewal and rebuilding accompanying the influx of middle–class or affluent people into deteriorating areas that often displaces poorer residents" (2015). San Francisco has also seen increasing rents prices as median rent in the city increased approximately 16 percent last year (Zillow, 2015). As rent prices also soar to record highs in San Francisco residents have flocked to the east bay to try and find cheaper rents. Along with the influx of new affluent residents come shops, stores and restaurants. A recent article in the San Francisco Chronicle's food blog "Inside Scoop" named four new restaurants opening in Oakland's Temescal district, a neighbor hood that has rapidly changed over ... • 6. Oakland County Cafr Analysis RUNNING HEAD: OAKLAND COUNTY: A LESSON IN FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY Oakland County: A Lesson in Fiscal Responsibility Percola Brooks Davenport University Nonprofit Accounting Accounting 742 Prof. Linda Pitsch April 15, 2011 Abstract Oakland County is one of the more prosperous counties in the State of Michigan. While it has suffered along with other counties, it continues to balance its budget and successfully reduce its expenditures in response to the constricting financial environment engulfing many parts of the country. County officials have developed a proactive strategy in dealing with revenue shortfall, and increasing retiree and employee benefit costs. Long–range planning initiatives, as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The efficiency of the County's financial management have allowed it to maintain the AAA bond rating, which allows borrowing at the lowest possible interest rate. This saves the County millions in future borrowing costs. Government Structure The General Fund is Oakland County's principal operating fund. It has increased by a total of $40.2 million since 2001. This increase can be primarily attributed to County officials' efforts to limit spending, and require internal service funds to absorb rate increases instead of passing that cost on to the General Fund. Issuance of debt is also limited. While the County has authority to issue up to $5.8 billion in debt (10% of its State Equalized Value), the actual outstanding debt is $809.9 million which represents 14% of the permissible amount. Other types of funds are used in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Special revenue funds record activities funded by restricted monies such as Public Health, Friend of the Court, and all grant–funded activities. Debt Service Funds record transactions related to assessment of tax levies and payment of principal and interest of long–tern debt. Capital project funds account for the purchase or construction of major facilities such as buildings, drains, and sewer projects. Enterprise funds account for functions supported by user fees. • 7. Graduation Speech : My New College Environment Essay Eighteen candles blazed before my eyelids as family and friends chimed Las Mananitas around my twin sister and I. The song concluded with cheers and chants from all sides, as my cousin yells out, "Make a wish!" I closed my eyes and repeated the same wish I had for the last three years. Taking a deep breath in, it whispered from the recesses of my mind, I wish to change. When I entered my teen years the stronger my wish for a transformation of some kind, physical or emotional grew. I cannot pinpoint the moment I stopped liking the type of person I was and spent high searching for communities hoping they would be my catalyst with no avail. As I entered college, I hoped Los Angeles would be my place of transformation, but adjusting to my new college environment proved challenging and as the semester wore on my wish became a faint memory. Although I was only eight hours away from the Bay Area the homesickness never left me. Longing for my large intimate family and realized I would needed to find a community at my college if I were to survive emotionally. I attended meetings for different cultural clubs, the only places I felt accepted due to the lack of cultural diversity on campus. They were enjoyable yet lacked the intimacy I craved. I wanted a place I could call home, where I could grow, challenge myself, and contribute to the campus environment. When I heard about Sigma Lambda Gamma Sorority being the only multicultural Greek organization at my institution I was intrigued. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Descriptive Essay About My Neighborhood My neighborhood has been many places in the short 15 years of my life. Many consider their neighborhood to include where they went to school, but no matter where my house happened to be, I went to school in Alameda. My three person family consisting of myself, my mother and my aunt, are closer to poor than rich, so while we could never afford to live on the little island, some of my other family members could so I used their address and attended their schools. I went to school, made friends, and found a community in Alameda, but my neighborhood is in Oakland and as such, my community is there too. The two have little in common as the: people, atmosphere, and average income couldn't be more different. Consequently it is for the same reasons that I am treated differently in the two places that I call home. Every neighborhood and street in Oakland could be identical, as seen looking through outside eyes. The streets are unfriendly, enveloped in poverty, filled with people of color, and loud to an average person driving by. Looking from the inside, however, is different because when I'm not across the Fruitvale Bridge in school, I'm here, experiencing the livelihood and culture of my town, my default neighborhood. I'm biracial, though for most on the island it's easier to maintain that I just Black, and I have lived with my white mother and aunt in Oakland since I was born. If I walk down Idlewood, a street parallel to Oakland's infamous MacArthur Boulevard, I am average; ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She praised the group throughout her performance which in turn, upset the audience. Dancing as the people, who many saw as a threat to national security, did not sit well. Black pride was a dominant component within her performance because she shows how history was created by the African Americans. This lead to a big controversy. Many interpreted her performance as an attack or protest, but it was a performance of paying homage to many great African–Americans that are against police brutality. ... • 14. The Black Panther Party The Black Panthers The Black Panther Party is a self–defense, African American revolutionary party. This party was founded in Oakland, California by Huey Newton and Bobby Seale during the 1960's. This party was dedicated to combating white oppression, and did so by the use of both peaceful and violent actions. Looking back at the history of the Black Panthers, it can be clearly seen that the peaceful idea of equality for all spawned this group and their violent actions for the main reason that they were willing to do anything to defend their beliefs. One of the greatest reasons for the violent actions of the party, should be credited to the co–founder named Huey Newton. Huey Newton was a rebellious individual who was suspected of committing many crimes. As minister of defense within the party, Huey was seen as a leader to the members of the organization. In an interview with Newton, he made clear what he wanted the party to stand for, and what they needed to do to achieve this. In an excerpt from the interview transcript, he says that "there are two kinds of nationalism, revolutionary and reactionary nationalism. Revolutionary nationalism is first dependent upon a People's revolution with the end goal being the people in power... If you are a reactionary nationalist you are not a socialist and your end goal is the oppression of the people." (Newton 1). From this transcript, it can be inferred what kind of nationalism Huey wants the party to follow. He wants the people to gain power through the use of violence And extremism. As the interview continues, Huey states the views of the Black Panther Party by saying "The Black Panther Party, which is a revolutionary group of black people, realizes that we have an identity. We have to realize our black heritage in order to give us strength to move on and progress" (Newton 1). By saying this, Huey is announcing to the world that the Black Panthers are going to cause a dramatic change, and implies that they will do whatever is necessary as long as they have the strength. The cause for violence from peaceful ideas is largely due to the leadership. The minister of Education George Murray made many speeches that supported the violent actions, and encouraged them. Civic pride is a sign of community strength and solidarity, consequently it goes hand in hand with pride for local sports teams. In the city of Oakland there have traditionally been the Oakland Raiders (an NFL team), the Golden State Warriors (and NBA team whose city ties are ambiguous), and the Oakland Athletics. What they find is that many people have a budget for entertainment and therefore money spent at a sporting event is money that would otherwise have been spent at some other entertainment outlet in the city. They call this phenomena the "substitution effect" and accordingly, it is now included in most all stadium development proposals. In Oakland the situation is no different. While many Oakland A's fans do hail from municipalities outside of Oakland, the Bay Area as a whole is quite mobile in particular when it comes to entertainment. These non Oakland residents may be going out to eat or drink in Oakland instead of going to a ball game therefore the substitution effect would render the new stadiums impact rather minimal. At the present time the Bay Area is already plagued with traffic and public transportation issues as the population has outgrown the systems currently in place. What made the situation worse was that I absolutely hated roller–coasters. As we were approaching the Skycoaster, I witnessed another instructor from a different group on the Skycoaster; he was screaming his lungs out. At last, we arrived at the dreadful Skycoaster. Everyone would have the same opportunities to do well in life and rise up the social ladder. Durkheim (1893) asserted that with universally great public education, economic opportunities would be relatively equal. Even with equal education levels, there would still exist some inequality in the form of "legitimate" inequality (Durkheim 1893), but the excellent public education would level the playing field, so to speak. However, our world is not an ideal world. We live in a society where money talks and how rich a person is determines the caliber of their educational background. Research has shown that a child from a high income family will have a better life chance and that a child from a low–income family has less of a chance to move up the ranks. In my paper, I will argue that there is a correlation between socioeconomic status and quality of education in that the higher socioeconomic status a person has, the better education opportunities they will be able to obtain. Statistically data from Piedmont, CA and East Oakland, CA demonstrates the idea that educational quality and opportunities is closely related to socioeconomic status. Piedmont, CA is a wealthy city surrounded by Oakland, a not so well off area. Other than that I had never been properly informed about how they started and what they stood for. After watching this video it has changed my entire perspective on the movement. The difference between what I knew and what I know now is pretty different, the reason the Black Panthers carried gun was because of the brutality that was being brought upon their community by the police. I said in response "let 's do it!" Basmagian 3 As we enter the arena once again, the first thing i could smell was the sweet cinnamon from the churros. As my mom and I were finding our seat, I was taking in all the food stands that filled the arena. Eventually, we found our seats and I took a deep breath and soaked in what it felt like to be at an NBA game. All the security, vendors, people, but more importantly the NBA players. Every time The Warriors scored the crowd erupted as if they had just made a game–winner. Once it was halftime, my mom and I went to get food. She decided that she wanted street tacos loaded with Carne Asada. I decided I wanted a ginormous, greasy slice of pizza. As they cut the slice my mouth start watering and i could smell the cheese and pepperoni as if it were right in front of my nose. I could not wait to get back to my seat, so I could devour my pizza. • 35. Sociological Perspective Coming from AJP, I needed to cross Fifth Avenue to start my walk, and like what I had to do every day when I had class at that building, I found myself once again waiting for the walk sign to appear across the street. This Sociological Perspective of seeing society in our everyday lives showed how the smallest personal choices, even the action of walking, is affected and shaped by society and how it functions. As I was walking through Fifth Avenue, I noticed that there were buildings at every corner of this long street. Students, some wearing Carlow gear while others wore Pitt gear, populated the sidewalks, conversing with other students. As I got farther into Fifth Avenue, I could see UPMC hospitals and signs with directions of entrances and parking lots. People populated the end of the sidewalk in this street, waiting at the Bus Stop sign. In the area of Forbes Avenue, there were a lot of restaurants, and I noticed many students walking to get in and eat. The pedestrian traffic was very similar to the automobile traffic on the street. Through the Sociological Perspective of seeing the general in the particular, I was able to identify the general patterns of the group of pedestrians walking on the sides, including myself. There is a systematic way in society that traffic runs, and as I was walking, I, along with the rest of the pedestrians near me, looked both ways of the street before crossing at the end of the streets at Forbes. At one point in my walk near in Forbes, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. Black Panther Party Reflection My experience at the Oakland Museum was educational, I learn about the history of Asian American were mistreated and placed to work on the railroads. The artwork I saw at the Museum was quite amazing that look quite realistic. It was a photograph of lady holding a child during the time of the Great Depression. Another thing I saw was The Black Panther Party exhibit it was quite small, but I learn that African American does not want to be seen as second class citizen and being disrespected. This connects to our class in a way it relates to the documentary that we watched about the Black Panther Party. The Black Panther Party is a movement that revolutionized the Black community like the Black Lives Matter movement that is around today. This particular movement help fund a breakfast program for low income family which it is a model used in public schools. Lastly, I sat on a half opened airplane and imagining I was an immigrant coming to the United States looking for new opportunities like the War and Peace documentary I watched for a homework assignment. Overall, I enjoy the Oakland Museum. The second event I attended was the no A's movement. I did not really went there close enough since I was in a rush to get to work. However, I took a quick second to take a picture of the event. The movement is not that big compared to the Black Panther Party movement in the early 1990's where Huey, one of the controversial figures in the party. He was the one who is seen as a ... • 38. A City Where Black Power Won : The Origins Of The Black... A City Where Black Power Won: The Origins of the Black Panther Party on College Campuses Paula Deroseney Dr. Carl Suddler AAS 385: Urban History 31 March 2016 The movement of African American migrants out of the South and into northern California laid the foundation for the development of the Black Panther Party (BPP), which served as a voice for the black community. With this new wave of black migrant families into California came a new, younger generation whose Southern roots had not yet been formed. As young migrants assimilated into their new environments, their exposure to higher education mixed with the culture of Oakland to promote the formation of young black militants into a radicalized group. These black youth benefited from the fact that California was the only state to pass the Master Plan in 1960, which promised to provide its residents higher education if they had a high school diploma. The education system in East Bay, specifically, laid the foundation for black revolutionary thought in Oakland and eventually the nation by promoting the development of a politicized community of black youth, ingraining black radical ideas into black students, and increasing the socialization of blacks from different origins and backgrounds. The passing of the Master Plan in California led to the increase of black students at East Bay colleges. After its passing, the population of black American students grew at an exponential rate as more and more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Steel City Research Paper Pittsburgh the "Steel City", "City of Bridges", and the "City of Champions" was once considered to be disturbingly polluted. It is now more environmentally friendly. Green buildings, less water pollution, and all the other things that make Pittsburgh better. The thesis statement goes here. Pittsburgh geography created a strange city layout. George Woods and Thomas Vickroy created the layout of the Golden Triangle 1784. The design was called the Woods–Vickroy double–grid plan. The Great of 1854 destroyed roughly 1,000 buildings and one–third of the Golden Triangle. Pittsburgh is called the City of Bridges because it has 446 of them. The Smithfield Street Bridge is the oldest extant bridges. It was built from 1881 to 1883. It was not the first bridge to built in that spot. • 40. My Experience At Mills, Our Community Is Created And... "Una destinatio, viae diversae" is the Mills motto. Translated, it means "one destination, many paths." At Mills, our community is created and sustained by the many unique paths of our students. How has your path led you to Mills? What will you bring to our community, and what do you hope to gain from your time here? Before my eyelids blazed eighteen candles as family and friends chimed Las Mananitas around my twin sister and I. Cheers and chants from all sides, as my cousin yells out, "Make a wish!" My eyes shut and I repeated the wish I had for the last three years. Taking a deep breath in, I wish to change whispered from the recesses of my mind. My teen years were difficult on myself confidence. I cannot pinpoint the moment I stopped liking the person I was, and became obsessed with becoming someone other than myself. I searched for communities throughout high school hoping they would be my catalyst with no avail. As I entered college, I hoped Los Angeles would be my place of transformation, but adjusting to my new college environment proved challenging and as the semester wore on my wish became a faint memory. Although I was only eight hours away from the Bay Area, the homesickness never left me. Longing for my large intimate family find a community at my college was priority if I were to survive emotionally. I attended meetings for different cultural clubs, the only places I felt accepted due to the lack of cultural diversity on campus. The clubs were enjoyable ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
