Race for Nuclear Arms and Power
Race for Nuclear Arms and Power
Harry Truman (1884–1972) was the most influential person in the race for the super bomb. As
President Roosevelt's Vice President, he knew nothing about the development of the atomic bomb.
But within months of assuming the office of President of the United States on April 12, 1945, he
became the first and only American leader to authorize the use of atomic weapons against an enemy
target. Truman's era only marked the beginning of the race for nuclear weapons. The development of
nuclear weapons is still an issue today, decades after Truman left office.
Enrico Fermi (1901–1954) succeeded in splitting the uranium atom and the Nobel Committee later
awarded him the 1938 prize for physics. At Columbia ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The scientists underestimated the size of the explosion because they thought it would yield the
equivalent of 5 million tons of TNT, but in fact, "Bravo" yielded 15 megatons making it more than a
thousand times bigger than the bomb dropped on Hiroshima.(9) The blast gouged a crater about a
mile wide in the reef. Within seconds the fireball was nearly three miles in diameter and was visible
for almost one minute on Rongerik, an island 135 miles east of the burst.
About an hour–and–a–half later a gritty, snow–like substance began raining down on a Japanese
fishing vessel called the Lucky Dragon that was about 80 miles east of Bikini. When the 23
fishermen returned to port two weeks later they were all suffering severe radiation sickness and their
radio operator later died. In 1955, the United States paid two million dollars as restitution for
damage to the Lucky Dragon, its 23 members and its cargo after negotiations with Japanese
officials. Marshall Islanders were also exposed to the fallout considering that a few hours after the
explosion, radioactive fallout began to drop on the people, into the drinking water, on the food, and
into the hands of children who were playing with it.(10) As of December 31, 1997, $63,127,000 has
been awarded to or on behalf of 1,549 people of the Marshall Islands, with personal injury claims
and several class action suits pending.(11)

Comparison of the 1938 Munich Crisis and 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis and the Role of Nuclear
Arms
Introduction
In annals of the 20th century, the Munich crisis of 1938 and the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962 are
two of the more riveting examples of crisis diplomacy (Richardson 1994). Comparisons of the two
cases yield a robust discourse on their similarities and differences. The two cases illustrate the
complexity of international leadership through 'summit diplomacy' (Dobbs 2008; Faber 2008;
Reynolds 2008).
The outcomes of the two historic events are vastly different. For instance, the Munich crisis
eventually became a prelude to World War II that dragged Great Britain to war with Germany. The
Cuban Missile Crisis turned out to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1939, Hitler annexed the rest of Czechoslovakia in violation of the agreement. Germany also
invaded Poland and Hungary dragging Britain and France to World War II against it. Likewise, the
USSR discarded its pro–western policy and signed a Nazi–Soviet Pact.
Chamberlain's appeasement policy was derided by British as a failure (Reynolds, 37). Considering
that Hitler was deceptive, appeasement will never work. It may have been more strategic if the
purpose was to buy time while Britain was preparing for war. On hindsight, the one–year interim
period between the Munich agreement in 1938 to Britain's war in 1939 provided the opportunity for
Britain to boost its artillery before going to a crucial war in 1940 (Reynolds, 93).
1962 Cuban Missile Crisis
The thirteen days of October 1962 is considered to have no parallel in the history of mankind. It is
regarded as the moment when the world came too close to the fringes of nuclear Armageddon
(Allison and Zelikow, 1). The Cuban Missile Crisis was a confrontation involving the two
ideologically–opposed nuclear superpowers – the United States and the Soviet Union– over Cuba
set in the Cold War era. The crisis escalated when the US took photographs of Soviet missile bases
secretly being built in Cuba. These bases stock piled a number of medium–and–intermediate–range
ballistic nuclear missiles pointed to the US.
The US favored militarily 'quarantine' by blocking Soviet

Virtual Reality Rehabilitation : An Upper Extremity...
The experimenters, from the Journal of Neuroengineering and Rehabilitation, use this study to
explain how patients who had a stroke and are experiencing an upper extremity functional deficit
can benefit from virtual reality rehabilitation. Upper extremity functional deficit can include
weakness, coordination problems, swelling, changes of muscle tone and changes in sensation.
Patients are given high intensity repetitive task specific training to help improve the deficit, and it
does work. But the patients get bored of the training and it is also hard to find the necessary
resources to even do the training. This is where the virtual reality rehabilitation comes in. Virtual
reality rehabilitation is a computer generated interactive simulation that imitates reality and provides
users with an artificial environment including sensory information similar to real world experience.
With this program patients are able to play different games to help them combat the deficit. They
also do not get bored with the rehabilitation since they can play many games. There had been studies
in the past that had looked at this form of rehabilitation and shown that it does work and help the
patients. But, the study never assessed the functional outcome or the effectiveness in a randomized
controlled experiment. Experimenters Joon–Ho Shin, Hokyoung Ryu and Seong Ho Jang from
Japan took this idea of virtual reality and expanded on it. They made two aims of their study: to
develop a task–specific

Orthopedic Physical Assessment and Physical Therapy Essay
In physical therapy, patients come to the clinic with a long list of symptoms and a specific
mechanism of injury. It is the physical therapists job to take this information and form hypotheses of
what pathology may be affecting the patient. With the patient that has been presented in this case, a
full history shows a very good description of symptoms and what the patient remembers happening
when the injury occurred. With this history, an examination plan can be created in order to make this
examination process thorough, but efficient.
A hypothesis that can be made from the patient's report is that she is suffering from cervical
radiculopathy, or a nerve root lesion. Symptoms that describe cervical radiculopathy include: arm

375). That is why it is still important to perform red flag testing to keep the patient as safe as
possible. Red flag tests indicate if something potentially dangerous or life threatening is going on
with the patient. This will cause a physical therapy examination to stop and that patient may be
referred to their primary care physician for further care before physical therapy can proceed. These
tests include vertebral artery testing and cervical instability testing (Dutton, 2012). The vertebral
artery test rules out any blood supply being cut off to the brain (Magee, 2008, p. 150). In terms of
cervical instability testing, the transverse ligament and alar ligament tests should be done to avoid
any bones in the cervical spine moving out of place to damage the spinal cord (Magee, 2008, p.
180). When these two red flags are tested and found to be negative, the rest of the exam can start. If
they turn out to be positive, a referral back to the patient's primary care physician should be made
before any excursion of the cervical spine occurs. Active range of motion testing with passive end
feel testing should be done next. This will allow the physical therapist to observe and feel the range
of motion the patient is able to do. Also, the therapist will be able to note motions that elicit pain and
if radiating pain occurs. Next, muscle length testing will detect any shortening due to the

The Soviet Union's Nuclear Arms Race
Within four years of the United States' bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the Soviet Union
successfully tested its first nuclear weapon. Ultimately, this test would begin the arms race between
the US and the USSR, which would come to be one of the largest sources of political tension
between the two countries throughout the Cold War. While lack of information and historical bias
from an American point of view suggests that the USSR created its nuclear industry solely to "beat
the west," further analysis shows that the Soviet Union had wide ranging purposes for the creation
of its nuclear industry. Therefore, while the United States' successes in nuclear technology may have
expedited the launch of the Soviet Union's nuclear program, ultimately, ... Show more content on

The investment in alternate energy that the USSR made, especially for a highly industrial country
whose economic development largely relied on the production of fossil fuels, is unparalleled. The
Soviet Union had two main, long–term incentives for investing in nuclear energy: One, 80% of the
countries fossil resources were located in the eastern half of the country while 75% of the population
lived in the western half, and two, nuclear power is less damaging to the local environments than
conventional fossil power. Interestingly, the USSR actually led the world in the use of nuclear power
to generate electricity, creating the world's first nuclear power plant at Obninsk on June 27th, 1954.
The success and speed of the Soviet Union's reactor production shows both advantages and
disadvantages of the country's political system, as the country was able to allocate all resources to
the research of various power generation methods without the limits of waiting for individual
company investment; however, this often incurred high costs both with safety standards and
economically. However, by 1985, the countries investments in nuclear energy production appeared
to have paid off, with nuclear energy

Arms Control (Nuclear Disarmament)
Arms Control (Nuclear Disarmament) Arms control refers to any international limitation or
regulation where developing, testing, producing, deploying, or even using weapons is concerned on
the basis that it is inevitable for some national military establishments to continue existing. This
concept points to some type of collaboration between states that are antagonistic or competitive in
general when it comes to military policy, in a bid to lower the chances of war and in the event of
such, to limit its damage (Jones 4). From a broader perspective, arms control is a product of
historical state practices involving disarmament that has seen many successes and challenges since
the 20th century. The two terms have at some point been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In the four decades following its entry into force, the NPT has ensured massive growth in the
peaceful employment of nuclear energy. Nuclear applications in water resources, medicine,
environmental management, disease prevention, and food security contribute to improvement of
people's lives around the world on a daily basis. Today, the benefits outlined in NPT's Article IV
have seen widespread acceptance by worldwide nations with the U.S. leading in commitment to
ensuring that benefits accruing from peaceful application of nuclear energy get to be shared
equitably amongst states exhibiting commitment to their NPT responsibilities (Browne, Shetty and
Somerville 385). Moreover, the NPT has proved an important and integral part of sustaining
progress in line with disarmament. This arises from the fact that NPT is the principal legal barrier to
proliferation of nuclear weapons and its party states have vowed to have good faith in pursuing
negotiations regarding effective measures as related to quickest possible cessation of the nuclear
arms race and nuclear disarmament (Jones 11). In fact, since the NPT entered into effect, significant
progress has been made on disarmament with treaties banning chemical and

Reflection Paper
It felt as if each step I took was going to be my last at any second. It has been sixteen hours of just
plain hunger, thirst, and exhaustion which worried me very much. I was walking for hours just to get
to the "other side" while being 3 months pregnant. My over thinking became extreme but my main
concern was if it was really worth my babies life incase something wrong happened? Who would
have thought anyone could physically and mentally survive this kind of thing let alone a pregnant
one, luckily here I am about to tell you the living nightmare I went through. I would not wish this
experience on anyone walking on this earth, this journey was something I will never forget. I
ambled through the desert for hours feeling as if it was draining my soul and body by each second
that was plodding by. With all the extra time I had I couldn't help but just think of all the negative
things that could happen. What if when I was going to go over to the United States I couldn't find a
job? What if later on I was going to get deported and all my hard work was going to be for nothing?
What if life isn't better over there? So many questions haunting me throughout the slow minutes
going by. I finally was able to think about all the positive things that would happen to me if I
succeeded after 8 hours of pure negativity. I thought to myself that I would finally be having the
American Dream, meet the perfect husband, have a beautiful family and most importantly give my
unborn child the

Nuclear Arms are Weapons of Mass Destruction
Nuclear arms can easily be classified as weapons of mass destruction, as they destroy all ecosystems
that come in contact with it in a matter of seconds, this fairly new and evolving breed of warfare is
continuously becoming a bigger threat to society due to the fact that; the government can turn to
nuclear power if opposing countries do not comply with their needs. The Cold War was essentially
defined by nuclear weapons and the nuclear arm race between United States and the Soviet Union. A
high degree of anxiety existed between the two superpowers and millions of citizens around the
world were put to risk by nuclear arm race. The use of these nuclear weapons were exceedingly
destructive and the consequences were so enormous that the protection of human rights were
questioned. However the use of these weapons were merely to prevent their use by others. In other
words nuclear weapons were devices of deterrence not warfighting. There was a mutual nuclear
weapon ownership with both states possessing nuclear weapons, therefore the odds of war dropped
quickly. Both superpowers quickly came to the realization that nuclear war between the two
countries could lead to a devastation effect on the world which concluded the cold war. "From 1968
the only universal treaty that stops the spread of nuclear weapons is the Non– Proliferation Treaty
(NPT) with about 130 members. China is a nuclear weapon state but not a party to the treaty. Also
missing are India, Pakistan, Brazil, Argentina

My Initial Assessment From Module 4
As discussed in Module 4, the workstation I described involved washing dishes on an industrial
scale where meals are served in high volumes, up to 2000 people per meal. This particular
workstation is not equipped with mechanical or automated processes which requires employees to
accomplish this massive undertaking. The workplace stressors related to this task includes, awkward
postures, excessive force, repetition, and compression. During my initial assessment from Module 4,
I identified significant posture issues regarding excessive bending and twisting from the trunk and
waste which could lead to disc bulges, muscle strain and lower back WMDSs. I also identified
excessive force hazards regarding relocating, lifting, pulling and ... Show more content on

Step 4 (Wrist Twist) was scored as a +1 because minimal twisting action were required. For step 5,
the precious scores were plotted in Table A of the RULA guide which resulted in an overall score of
4. Step 6 and step 7 both resulted in a +1 score due to the repetitiveness of the process and the
weight of the objects handled by the employee. Step 8 consisted of adding the values of steps 5–7
(4+1+1 respectively) to indicate an overall wrist/arm score of 6. Step 9 (Neck Position) resulted in a
+2 because the employee's neck primarily stayed within the 0–20 degree range. Step 10 (Trunk
Position) in a +3 because the individual was bent forward at a 20–60 degree angle. Step 11 (Legs)
resulted in a +1 because the employee's legs were stable and supported. Using Table B (Trunk
Posture Score) resulted in a score of 4 for step 12. Steps 13 and 14 both resulted in a +1 score
because the of the weight of the objects handled and number of repetitive tasks. Step 15 indicated a
final score of 6 for the neck, trunk and legs. Plotting the final scores while using Table C of the
RULA guide resulted in a final score of 7. This result indicates that major ergonomics risk factors
were prevalent at this workstation and significant engineering and administrative controls are
needed. (Stack, Ostrom, & Wilhelmsen, 2016) Much like the RULA assessment tool the Rapid

King Aspelta Analysis
The Colossal Statue of King Aspelta appears to be especially influenced by the statue design of Old
Kingdom Egypt, despite being a Kushite work from the Nubian region produced between the years
of 593 and 568 BC. Due to the larger than life size of Aspelta, the eye is initially drawn to the
pectoral and abdominal region of the body. This portion of the statue is especially idealized as the
pectorals are toned and the abdomen is similarly muscular. Furthermore, there is no indication of
any weakness or fat, which would be typical of the average human being. Even in the absence of the
work's title, this makes it evident that subject was in a position of power and wish to be seen as an
ideal and powerful portion. The arms are large, yet not well ... Show more content on

Mentuemhet was a mayor and prophet from the city of Amen responsible for the reconstruction of
temples that had been destroyed by invading Assyrians. The statue itself is quite similar that of King
Aspelta in terms of form. For example, the Mentuemhet is also shown to have an idealized body yet
individualized face in the same way as King Aspelta. Furthermore, Mentuemhet is posed in the
characteristic left foot forward stance of Old Kingdom Egypt. Likewise, the respective statues wear
the same attire, a skirt with the same designs. This also appears to be a nod to the Old Kingdom
Egypt as the same piece of clothing can be viewed on statues of leaders from this period, like
Menkaure. Also, both are high reliefs in the sense that the figures are not liberated from the granite
stone, though their standing depiction gives the illusion that they are free–standing statues when
viewed from the front. However, the free–standing illusion provides both with a sense of
permanence and longevity of statue which hints toward the timeless aspect of Egyptian statues due
to their concept of the

The Nuclear Arms Race : The Cold War Between The United...
Starting in the 1949 with the explosion of an atomic bomb(RDS–1) in Russia and ending with the
dissolvement of the Soviet Union, the nuclear arms race was an extremely tense few decades that
forever changed the United States in many ways. The Arms Race is exactly what it sounds like; a
race to amass more advance weapons. During these four decades, the Nuclear Arms Race affected
Americans socially through instilling a variety of emotions ranging from fear, to awe of the power
of the nuclear weapons, economically through enlarging governmental role within the economy and
mostly importantly, the political impacts were more involvement required by the U.S government in
world affairs and as a force against Russia.
Background:
The Nuclear Arms race was part of the Cold War between the U.S. and the U.S.S.R taking place
between 1949 and 1991. The race officially started on August 29, 1949 when the Soviets
successfully tested their first atomic bomb which scared the U.S. Previously only the U.S. had
access to the technology capable of creating an atomic bomb which was conceived during the
Second World War as part of the Manhattan Project. Now with U.S.S.R. gaining nuclear technology,
the monopoly the U.S had on it was gone. During World War Two the U.S and U.S.S.R were allies
(not enemies) fighting against Germany, Japan and Italy but that 's when the similarities ended. They
both had very different ideologies once the war ended on which economic system was superior and

The Nuclear Arms Of The United States And The Soviet Union
In order to maintain peace and stability in the world, there must be a balance of power between
countries. The Nuclear Arms Race was started because there wasn 't a balance of power after World
War II. The U.S. was the only country at that time which possessed nuclear weapons. Russia, fearing
a United States domination of world power, developed a nuclear bomb of its own. Thus started the
Arms Race, in which both countries attempted to gain the upper hand in terms of the number of
nuclear warheads each possessed. However, the Arms Race ended when several treaties in arms
reduction were passed. I believe that in the end, the United States and the Soviet Union realized that
one country would eventually win, and the balance of power would ... Show more content on

Typically, in popular depictions of arms races, the political calculations that start and regulate the
pace of the game remain obscure. As Charles H. Fairbanks, Jr., has noted, "The strange result is that
the activity of the other side, and not one's own resources, plans, and motives, becomes the
determinant of one's behavior." And what constitutes the "finish line" of the game is the province of
assertion, rather than analysis. Many onlookers, and some participants, have claimed that the
likelihood of war increases as the accumulation of arms proceeds apace. A close examination of the
historical evidence reveals a different picture. Political purposes almost always drive and govern
arms races. It is common for a major race to be initiated by a state interested in changing the
political status quo. In some cases, the response of states content with the status quo is swift and
resolute, but in other cases it is constrained by domestic political or economic considerations or
diverted by diplomatic calculations. The course of an arms race has frequently exacerbated a sense
of rivalry and occasionally even determined the timing of a war; but most often it has ended in a
political settlement between rivals or in a decision by one side to moderate its buildup. The first
competitive buildup in which contemporaries used the arms race metaphor seems to have been the
naval rivalry in the late nineteenth century, in which France and Russia challenged Britain in the
context of

Unilateral versus Bilateral Training in Stroke Rehabilitation of Persons with Upper Limb

Abstract
Purposeful movement of an upper limb can be difficult for many individuals with post–stroke
functional limitations such as hemiparesis. Due to the level of disability caused by stroke,
researchers have investigated rehabilitation protocols such as unilateral and bilateral training, and
the benefits of each in expediting progress towards recovery. Neurophysiological mechanisms were
studied, analyzing the effects of unilateral training, bilateral training, and a combination of the two
and their effect on the brain. Participants of the studies varied widely. However, ... Show more

Mudie & Matyas (2000) claim that long–term potentiation may result from initial bilateral
rehabilitation, which in turn established a perpetual firing pattern of the brain. Once this firing
pattern is established, simultaneous activation of both hemispheres aids the more affected limb's
hemisphere via crossed corticospinal pathways. This is suspected to occur because the strong
neuronal inputs to the less affected hemisphere are able to assist the weaker inputs to the more
affected hemisphere. Through this association, the stronger input assists the weaker input to become
potentiated, thereby increasing supply to the more affected upper extremity (Mudie & Matyas,

initial injury. After arriving at the hospital, focus on survival is key by monitoring the airway.
Respiratory support may be required via mechanical ventilation through a noninvasive intermittent

aloud is lost. Interventions to improve communication include instructing the individual on how to
communicate by with mouthing the words, or by having the caregiver plug the trach with a gloved
finger (finger occlusion), or if applicable, using the plugging/capping/button intervention which
occludes the trach while allowing voice production so that the individual can speak. Mouthing of
words is used if the other interventions are not tolerated, and tactics such as intraoral sounds are
utilized to get the caregiver's attention. In the case that vocal cord impairment is present after
removal of the trach, vocal cord exercises may be implemented. If the individual is having
dysphagia, a food consistency a liquid level evaluation will be performed to assess any impairments

swallowing safety. If the individual is suspected to have a brain injury, cognition may be evaluated

The Nuclear Arms Race During The Cold War
The Cold War, basically a gigantic nuclear arms race, was built on suspicion and tension between
the two major power brokers after World War II: The United States and the USSR. Speculation of
what perpetuated it has many veins; however, three major ideologies contributed. Fear of
communism become an international reality as the main governing polity, making an enemy out of
the USSR. Second is the Russian response to invasion across their borders in the past wars, and thus
fear drove them to it. The USA and the USSR have different political cultures and interests which
intensified fear of dangerous conflict and confrontations a reality. As one can see, these ideologies
have a very real threat in common, worse than any arms race... fear. Once

I Come Hurtling Towards The Club. I Realized At The Last
I come hurtling towards the club. I realized at the last second that I left my keys at the bar where me
and Henry were talking. Kailey 's stupid vomiting made me put my keys and my purse down so that
I could assist her. I must 've picked up my purse and assumed the keys were inside. God! Of all
places and people to live those keys with!
What was I supposed to expect? Of course they wouldn 't be there. I start asking the bartender for
the keys as a last resort, even if he could 've taken them for all I knew. He thinks for a moment and
then he looks at me with an idea. "I think I saw a big guy with a red shirt and black jeans take them
into that room." The bartender points to the very back of the room on the right side of the stage,

But this guy looks like he 's 80% muscle or something. His red shirt is barely keeping it together
being so tight on him. Yeah, big on steroids maybe. He 's at one of the pool tables surrounded by his
lackeys I 'm guessing. They 're all smaller than him and they all seem to be joking around. Great.
This is going to go well. All that matters is that I can see my keys hooked onto his belt.
"Excuse me." I say as steadily as I can. No room for fear here.
Big red turns around and eyes me, as if he were undressing me. He 's not drunk though, unlike his
friends. "What?" He 's got a big nose. an ugly big nose. Ugh.
"Those are my keys. I don 't want trouble, but I need to get home."
He starts laughing hysterically and so do his lackeys. "Sorry, sweetheart," he grins, "come at me
with a cop or don 't leave your shit around so casually." He turns around to resume his game, but I
persist.
"Listen, asshole, I just need to get home! My car isn 't worth shit and we both have lives to get back
to, so just give it to me." I 've gotten in his face now, in between him and the pool table.
He eyes my body again and then puts his arm around me! Ugh! "Well, maybe if you can offer

Advantages Of Robots
What are the advantages of having robots in our lives? Today, some of the most boring and
repetitive jobs in manufacturing are done by robots. The military and police use robots for
dangerous jobs, such as manipulating explosive devices. Robots are used in inaccessible places,
such as exploring our solar system or the bottom of the sea. Robots also appear in entertainment,
research, medicine, and education. Mankind is only beginning to see the use and value of robotics.
With a great emphasis being placed on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in our
education system, robotics play an important part in motivating and exciting students about these
subjects. Robotics involve multiple types of design: physical design of structures and mechanisms
that building a creation using construction materials, motors, and gears, as well as computational
design of writing a computer program to determine how a creation should move and respond.

A revolute or rotary joint is capable of rotation but not extension. A simple hinge joint is an
example, as is a "lazy susan." A prismatic joint is capable of a sliding motion, but not rotation. A
drawer slide is a type of prismatic joint. Robotic arms are often divided into four types depending
upon the shape of the space that the arm can reach. This space is called the work envelope. For the
human arm, the work envelope is about three–fourths of the inside of a sphere whose diameter is
equal to the length of the arm when fully extended. A robotic arm with the same work envelope is
said to have a revolute or articulated configuration. Revolute robotic arms have a shoulder and an
elbow. The shoulder is mounted on a rotating base (like a "lazy susan") that allows the arm to rotate,
and has a rotary hinge joint that allows the "upper arm" to move up and down. The elbow of a
revolute robotic arm also has a rotary joint that allows the "forearm" to move up and

H & M: A Short Story
"How's the not dying going?"
"Not very well," Elliot replied as he pressed his fingers of the continuously growing red stain on his
new white shirt. The cause of that stain was not quite something Elliot wanted to see at all, so he
simply kept his fingers pressed to his side as gunfire rained fiery hell on the people behind him.
Somehow, even the soft cloth of the rack of dresses he currently leaned against could not help ease
his stress. In fact, the sickening scent of the spilled perfumes that had spread across the sparkling
tiles only gave him a headache and made him even more likely to succumb to his wounds.
"We can't hide in the women's section forever, you know." Thalia, his friend, replied.
"Well, you won't know if you don't try." Elliot quipped.
Thalia rolled her eyes, seemingly unnerved by the second round of gunfire that echoed behind her.
She looked over her shoulder, possibly to see if the men behind her had finally left after the section
of the store they were in had gone silent. Thalia turned back to Elliot and snaked a mocha colored
arm behind his back as she hoisted him up, which was quite the task, considering Elliot was easily a
foot taller than her.
Together, the two hobbled out of what used to be H&M. Quickly and swiftly Thalia hauled Elliot

Social Pressure On The Government Crisis
I measure domestic political volatility through observable events that are likely to indicate
leadership change or social pressure on the government, in both cases using variables constructed
with data from the Cross–National Time Series (CNTS) dataset.footnote{cite{Banks2011Cross–
National}. A number of studies have used the CNTS data to capture political volatility or instability,
but there is no consensus on the best approach or best variables to use. To list a few:
cite{Sasikumar2009testingtheories} codes a measure of political instability using a weighted index
of CNTS variables, combining general strikes, demonstrations and government crises;
cite{ghosn2011domestic} uses demonstrations and government crises as separate variables;
cite{Brunetti1998uncertainty} use number of changes in the national constitution as a measure of
policy uncertainty; cite{Roe2011politicalinstability} use the government crisis measure. My
constructed variables build on ideas developed in these prior studies and adapts the measures to
better fit the volatility concepts I seek to capture with this measure.} For public pressure, I use a
measure of demonstrations, riots and political strikes. The goal is to capture events which would be
substantial enough as to be observable internationally as domestic pressures. Since the data do not
record the sizes or issue areas associated with these social unrest events, I rely on their frequency. I

Personal Essay : How Did I Get In A Tree
Through the murky depths, pain was the first thing I felt.
Stabbing brands of pain radiated outwards in eternal waves, dragging me awake. I opened my eyes,
blinking as I took in my surroundings. The sky was overcast but light, suggesting the time as
somewhere in the afternoon.
Rain crashed down from above, creating a constant droning sound as it hit the forest floor in a
million different places at once. Leaves flailed not from wind, but from the impact of droplets.
Then I looked at the factory of pain that was my arm, and remembered everythung that happened.
Knife. He took my knife. And broke my arm. How did I get in a tree?

a push inwards, letting out a pained hissing noise the whole time.
When it was knuckle's length in, I took a rest, breathing heavily as the fire came in, unending in it's
siege. I lay there for a while as the pain lessened over time. Once it was back to its former level of
agony, I continued readjusting the bone.
Resting the arm on my knee, I was avout to give the bone another push, when my hand slipped. I
ended up shoving the end in a lot harder than I wanted or needed.
I think I might have screamed, but I wasn't sure. My vision turned blindingly white, then red, before

I awoke not that long later, judging by the sky. Or perhaps it was an entire day later, there was no

Round two, I thought. I took hold of the arm in my other hand, and with an explosion of pain,
snapped the bone back into place. I fell backwards again,st the trunk and lay there for a while more,
panting and trying to calm my senses. Now for the other bone. This one was much easier, and was
nudged into place with no small amount of lightning bolts flying to my head.
Thankfully, I didn't pass out again.

The Politics And Last National Security Essay
Arms Trade, Weapons Sales, Armament Sales are just few terms used for the manufacture and sale
or trade of devices to protect a country, attack another and quite possibly benefit economically, or
politically on a global scale. Countries, entities, factions, make, sell, and give things of destruction
to others. This is a reality. The intent of this paper is to provide information that individuals can use
to determine the necessity. The economics, the politics and last the National Security are the three
main discussion points.
History
History of Arms Trade, Weapons Trade or the trade any of items necessary to protect, feed or
conquer dates back to the dawn of time. Scholars note that arms trade or weapons trade could be
traced back 300,000 years (Thieme). As "humans" evolved and interacted with each other, scholars
speculate that the trade of many things occurred. The trade would include stories, knowledge, which
can be considered intangibles, then the tangibles, seeds for food, things to make tools, how to make
a shelter, weapons for protection and survival. Basically trade included instruction and things
needed for every aspect of life; to survive. Agers 2
Elements of Thought

with really good wood staffs. You put both together you have a more lethal device, for protection
and providing food. An item that was designed to help a human to survive evolved

What Is The Eight Head Theory
2. PATTERN MAKING 2.1 Body Measurement Garment fitting is based on taking body
measurements. So it is very important for a dress maker to know how to take accurate
measurements. For a successful garment cutting, one must know the size and shape of the human
body, for which designing has to be done. Anatomy begins with the eight head theory (Adu–Boakye
et.al 2012). 2.1.1 Body Anatomy The father of tailoring Mr. Wampon drew seven imaginary lines
across the body structure for the purpose of easy measurement in tailoring. The whole body
structure was lengthwise divided into eight equal parts, which is known as the eight head theory.
This theory has become the foundation of all fashion drawing and for understanding the body shape

The Nuclear Arms Race
The nuclear arms race involving both the Unites States of America and the Soviet Union will forever

the result of the need to prepare, not only for nuclear war, but also the fallout. In order to properly
prepare for and react to a potential nuclear attack, almost every level of State and Local Government
had a designee responsible for Civil Defense. Eventually, this led to the creation of different
government entities such as; The Federal Civil Defense Administration [FCDA] and the Office of
Defense Mobilization which was a Department of Defense [DOD] function. The FCDA, although a
federal entity was not properly financed or staffed. Furthermore,

Nuclear Arms Race Research Paper
There were many impacts of the nuclear arms race. Some we're positive, and some were negative.
The nuclear arms race was a race to advance nuclear technology. This race was primarily between
the Soviet Union and the United States. There were large monetary investments from both nations
into their nuclear arms programs. Everyone thought both sides would be destroyed in the end, both
economically and physically. The nuclear arms race impacted civilians, economies, military, and
technology in both nations.
The nuclear arms race was caused by the decreasing Soviet–American relations. This was because
the United States wanted to control all atomic knowledge and weaponry. The United States proposed

The United States and the Soviet Union gained technology to provide nuclear energy. They also

Designing an Exoskeleton Robotic Arm
It was believed that the decisive factor for designing a robotic arm is its inexpensiveness and
friendly interfacing with the user. Teleoperated master–slave anthropomorphic robotic arm with the
single axis revolute joints having six degree of freedom was designed [13]. The master used the
human machine interface (HMI) to operate in RTOS. The master incorporated the motion capture
devices, such as vision sensors to transform the motion into analog voltages so as to actuate the
exoskeleton robotic arm. The human machine interface comprised of GUI (Graphical User
Interface) system, an Exoskeleton Robotic Arm and a Mode selector which enabled the operator to
choose among the three modes of operation (manual, autonomous and semi–autonomous).
We humans are companionable with the amorphous environment which is the principal benefit of
advancement of Exoskeleton robots in the field of teleoperation. The 6–DOF exoskeleton enables
the robot to elevate and shift items anywhere in space. A 6–DOF exoskeleton is very analogous to
homo–sapiens in regards to no. and joints position. The limitation of this model was inadequate
precision because of the non–linearity and mechanical coupling of the joints. [13]
Nakai implemented a human interface technique using force feedback mechanism attached to the
operator's hand and named it Sensor Arm System [5]. The arm served the basis of the Master–Slave
manipulator system in Teleoperation. The arm with which he experimented had 7–DOF same as that

The Korean War was essentially a war that was started when North Korea decided to invade South
Korea, each backed up by their respective allies. When Canada first intervened in the war, Canada
supplied three Royal Canadian Navy destroyers (HMCS Athabaskan, HMCS Cayuga, and HMCS
Sioux) and a Royal Canadian Air Force transport squadron, the No. 426 "Thunderbird" Squadron.
After being pressured by the American, UN, and domestic pressure, Prime Minister Louis St.
Laurent announced that the Canadian Army Special Force (CASF), later dubbed the 25th Canadian
Infantry Brigade Group, was to be created and used to expand contributions to South Korea. This
was very important because the extra squadrons and machinery helped turn the tides in many battles
within the war. Canada also contributed 26000 as part of a United Nations force which consisted of
16 countries at the time. These troops were sent for both combat and for peacekeeping after the war.
Out of the 516 Canadians that died, 312 died from combat. The peacekeepers that were left behind
after the war stayed for three years as military observers, and the final few Canadian soldiers left
Korea in 1957. These troops were extremely important to the war because they provided backup and

The Nuclear Arms Race
After the end of World War II, the world was left with the two global Superpowers, the U.S and the
the Soviet Union. Having completely contradicting government ideologies, these two countries
desperately fought each other over foreign influence, inspiring what is known as the Cold War.
Named for it's lack of military action, the Cold War was hardly a war at all but more an arms race
between American democracy and Russian Communism. Though it never felt the heat of battle, this
altercation between the two Superpowers (the U.S. and the Soviet Union) included one of the

These missiles were a critical product of the Cold War itself. Following the introduction of the

dictating that any major Soviet attack would be met with a massive nuclear response. Inspired by
fear and skeptical assumptions of what the Soviet Union could do, this policy in turn acted as an
empty unneeded form of retaliation, attempting to discourage any possible Soviet Union
capitalization. But, after all these threats, Dulles acts upon this assumption declaring that "the
United States will protect its allies through the "deterrent of massive retaliatory power." The policy
announcement was further evidence of the Eisenhower administration's decision to rely heavily on
the nation's nuclear arsenal as the primary means of defense against communist aggression,"
("Dulles Announces Policy of "massive Retaliation"). Later, in the 1960's, the strategic doctrine

Consequently the concern about India surfaces more strongly in the minds of the NNWS than any
other state. Besides, India is so close to each one of them in terms of shared history, inheritance and
culture that one cannot help but recognize her overwhelming influence. For them, to divorce the
past, which all these countries shared with India, is to cut themselves off from their roots.
6. None of the NNWS of South Asia matches the Indian power capabilities with respect to any of
the attributes of power. The power difference is so enormous that no NNWS can either singly or
collectively encounter the Indian pressure and threat. Therefore, both militarily and economically
the states are extremely vulnerable vis–à–vis India. All these issues bear out the fact that India, a

Erb's palsy is a form of brachial plexus palsy. Brachial plexus palsy occurs when nerves in the
brachial plexus get damaged and signals cannot travel in their normal pattern from the brain to the
arm muscles. This causes paralysis (palsy) or weakness in the arm (brachial) region, as well as
atrophy of the deltoid, biceps, and brachialis muscles. About two out of every 1,000 babies have this
condition and it often occurs during birth when the infant's neck is stretched during a difficult
delivery. Common risk factors of Erb's palsy include use of forceps or a vacuum during delivery,
large infant size, small maternal size or excessive maternal weight gain, a large infant, breech birth,
or prolonged labor. Recovery of movement and feeling in the arm can reoccur with daily physical
and occupational therapy, as well as an active role by the parents to help maintain maximum
function (Erb's Palsy Ortho Info).
The brachial plexus is made up of five large nerves, which come out of the spinal cord between the
vertebrae and give movement and feeling to the arm. After coming out of the neck, the nerves come
together and then divide amongst the muscles and tissues of the arm. The area of the brachial plexus
runs from the neck and passes under the collarbone and is the major area of the nerves of the armpit.
When the upper nerves are affected, this is known as Erb's palsy. The infant may not be able

Summary Of Are We Too Casual About Nuclear Arms Threat By...
Are we too casual about nuclear arms threat? by John M. Crisp. The genre is an editorial (January
3,2017). Crisp shows that people are too nonchalant about nuclear weapons and their dangerous
effects because of their daily lives and work which do not allow for them to worry about these
threats through the use of rhetorical appeals. The earth already suffers from the climate change, yet
the American people still ignore the history of what happened to Hiroshima and Nagasaki and all the
damages U.S inflicted. Countries yet race to develop plentiful nuclear weapons that are having
conflict with other countries. Crisp appeals to logos by utilizing factual information such as the
effects of climate change inflicted by nuclear bombs. The author

What Were The Main Cause Of The Post War Nuclear Arms Race?
What were the main causes of the post–war nuclear arms race?
The post World War Two nuclear arms race can arguably be seen as the defining event of the Cold
War. For the first time in history a weapon had been created that had the potential to end humanity
as we knew it, a weapon with such power that one single use could decisively change the course of
war and reduce a potent enemy to an impotent conquest. Yet it is because of the magnitude and
influence of this weapon that the nuclear arms race began and then grew, and ultimately remained
just that – a race: two competing blocs chasing nuclear supremacy over the other, without ever
committing to its use. The post–war nuclear arms race is therefore defined as the competition during
the Cold War between the United Sates and the Soviet Union for nuclear weapon supremacy. Allies
of these two countries were aligned in opposing blocs and did pursue their own nuclear weapon
programmes, however none engaged in warhead production on the same scale as the US and the
USSR.
The first atomic weapon was developed by the United States during World War Two under the
Manhattan Project. Even though the US (and UK) and the USSR were key allies, Stalin had not
been informed of the development and production of a nuclear weapon due to distrust on the part of
the US and UK (In actuality Stalin had known about the Manhattan project through a network of
spies). Following the successful test at Trinity the US President, Harry Truman, authorised

Race For Nuclear Arms And Power

  • 1. Race for Nuclear Arms and Power Race for Nuclear Arms and Power Harry Truman (1884–1972) was the most influential person in the race for the super bomb. As President Roosevelt's Vice President, he knew nothing about the development of the atomic bomb. But within months of assuming the office of President of the United States on April 12, 1945, he became the first and only American leader to authorize the use of atomic weapons against an enemy target. Truman's era only marked the beginning of the race for nuclear weapons. The development of nuclear weapons is still an issue today, decades after Truman left office. Enrico Fermi (1901–1954) succeeded in splitting the uranium atom and the Nobel Committee later awarded him the 1938 prize for physics. At Columbia ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The scientists underestimated the size of the explosion because they thought it would yield the equivalent of 5 million tons of TNT, but in fact, "Bravo" yielded 15 megatons making it more than a thousand times bigger than the bomb dropped on Hiroshima.(9) The blast gouged a crater about a mile wide in the reef. Within seconds the fireball was nearly three miles in diameter and was visible for almost one minute on Rongerik, an island 135 miles east of the burst. About an hour–and–a–half later a gritty, snow–like substance began raining down on a Japanese fishing vessel called the Lucky Dragon that was about 80 miles east of Bikini. When the 23 fishermen returned to port two weeks later they were all suffering severe radiation sickness and their radio operator later died. In 1955, the United States paid two million dollars as restitution for damage to the Lucky Dragon, its 23 members and its cargo after negotiations with Japanese officials. Marshall Islanders were also exposed to the fallout considering that a few hours after the explosion, radioactive fallout began to drop on the people, into the drinking water, on the food, and into the hands of children who were playing with it.(10) As of December 31, 1997, $63,127,000 has been awarded to or on behalf of 1,549 people of the Marshall Islands, with personal injury claims and several class action suits pending.(11) On May 10, 1955, the Soviet Union unexpectedly accepted a UN proposal for nuclear ... Comparison of the 1938 Munich Crisis and 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis and the Role of Nuclear Arms Introduction In annals of the 20th century, the Munich crisis of 1938 and the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962 are two of the more riveting examples of crisis diplomacy (Richardson 1994). Comparisons of the two cases yield a robust discourse on their similarities and differences. The two cases illustrate the complexity of international leadership through 'summit diplomacy' (Dobbs 2008; Faber 2008; Reynolds 2008). The outcomes of the two historic events are vastly different. For instance, the Munich crisis eventually became a prelude to World War II that dragged Great Britain to war with Germany. The Cuban Missile Crisis turned out to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1939, Hitler annexed the rest of Czechoslovakia in violation of the agreement. Germany also invaded Poland and Hungary dragging Britain and France to World War II against it. Likewise, the USSR discarded its pro–western policy and signed a Nazi–Soviet Pact. Chamberlain's appeasement policy was derided by British as a failure (Reynolds, 37). Considering that Hitler was deceptive, appeasement will never work. It may have been more strategic if the purpose was to buy time while Britain was preparing for war. On hindsight, the one–year interim period between the Munich agreement in 1938 to Britain's war in 1939 provided the opportunity for Britain to boost its artillery before going to a crucial war in 1940 (Reynolds, 93). 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis The thirteen days of October 1962 is considered to have no parallel in the history of mankind. It is regarded as the moment when the world came too close to the fringes of nuclear Armageddon (Allison and Zelikow, 1). The Cuban Missile Crisis was a confrontation involving the two ideologically–opposed nuclear superpowers – the United States and the Soviet Union– over Cuba set in the Cold War era. The crisis escalated when the US took photographs of Soviet missile bases secretly being built in Cuba. These bases stock piled a number of medium–and–intermediate–range ballistic nuclear missiles pointed to the US. The US favored militarily 'quarantine' by blocking Soviet ... • 9. Virtual Reality Rehabilitation : An Upper Extremity... The experimenters, from the Journal of Neuroengineering and Rehabilitation, use this study to explain how patients who had a stroke and are experiencing an upper extremity functional deficit can benefit from virtual reality rehabilitation. Upper extremity functional deficit can include weakness, coordination problems, swelling, changes of muscle tone and changes in sensation. Patients are given high intensity repetitive task specific training to help improve the deficit, and it does work. But the patients get bored of the training and it is also hard to find the necessary resources to even do the training. This is where the virtual reality rehabilitation comes in. Virtual reality rehabilitation is a computer generated interactive simulation that imitates reality and provides users with an artificial environment including sensory information similar to real world experience. With this program patients are able to play different games to help them combat the deficit. They also do not get bored with the rehabilitation since they can play many games. There had been studies in the past that had looked at this form of rehabilitation and shown that it does work and help the patients. But, the study never assessed the functional outcome or the effectiveness in a randomized controlled experiment. Experimenters Joon–Ho Shin, Hokyoung Ryu and Seong Ho Jang from Japan took this idea of virtual reality and expanded on it. They made two aims of their study: to develop a task–specific ... • 13. Orthopedic Physical Assessment and Physical Therapy Essay In physical therapy, patients come to the clinic with a long list of symptoms and a specific mechanism of injury. It is the physical therapists job to take this information and form hypotheses of what pathology may be affecting the patient. With the patient that has been presented in this case, a full history shows a very good description of symptoms and what the patient remembers happening when the injury occurred. With this history, an examination plan can be created in order to make this examination process thorough, but efficient. A hypothesis that can be made from the patient's report is that she is suffering from cervical radiculopathy, or a nerve root lesion. That is why it is still important to perform red flag testing to keep the patient as safe as possible. Red flag tests indicate if something potentially dangerous or life threatening is going on with the patient. This will cause a physical therapy examination to stop and that patient may be referred to their primary care physician for further care before physical therapy can proceed. These tests include vertebral artery testing and cervical instability testing (Dutton, 2012). The vertebral artery test rules out any blood supply being cut off to the brain (Magee, 2008, p. 150). In terms of cervical instability testing, the transverse ligament and alar ligament tests should be done to avoid any bones in the cervical spine moving out of place to damage the spinal cord (Magee, 2008, p. 180). When these two red flags are tested and found to be negative, the rest of the exam can start. If they turn out to be positive, a referral back to the patient's primary care physician should be made before any excursion of the cervical spine occurs. Active range of motion testing with passive end feel testing should be done next. This will allow the physical therapist to observe and feel the range of motion the patient is able to do. Also, the therapist will be able to note motions that elicit pain and if radiating pain occurs. Next, muscle length testing will detect any shortening due to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. The Soviet Union's Nuclear Arms Race Within four years of the United States' bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the Soviet Union successfully tested its first nuclear weapon. Ultimately, this test would begin the arms race between the US and the USSR, which would come to be one of the largest sources of political tension between the two countries throughout the Cold War. While lack of information and historical bias from an American point of view suggests that the USSR created its nuclear industry solely to "beat the west," further analysis shows that the Soviet Union had wide ranging purposes for the creation of its nuclear industry. Therefore, while the United States' successes in nuclear technology may have expedited the launch of the Soviet Union's nuclear program, ultimately, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The investment in alternate energy that the USSR made, especially for a highly industrial country whose economic development largely relied on the production of fossil fuels, is unparalleled. The Soviet Union had two main, long–term incentives for investing in nuclear energy: One, 80% of the countries fossil resources were located in the eastern half of the country while 75% of the population lived in the western half, and two, nuclear power is less damaging to the local environments than conventional fossil power. Interestingly, the USSR actually led the world in the use of nuclear power to generate electricity, creating the world's first nuclear power plant at Obninsk on June 27th, 1954. The success and speed of the Soviet Union's reactor production shows both advantages and disadvantages of the country's political system, as the country was able to allocate all resources to the research of various power generation methods without the limits of waiting for individual company investment; however, this often incurred high costs both with safety standards and economically. However, by 1985, the countries investments in nuclear energy production appeared to have paid off, with nuclear energy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Arms Control (Nuclear Disarmament) Arms Control (Nuclear Disarmament) Arms control refers to any international limitation or regulation where developing, testing, producing, deploying, or even using weapons is concerned on the basis that it is inevitable for some national military establishments to continue existing. This concept points to some type of collaboration between states that are antagonistic or competitive in general when it comes to military policy, in a bid to lower the chances of war and in the event of such, to limit its damage (Jones 4). From a broader perspective, arms control is a product of historical state practices involving disarmament that has seen many successes and challenges since the 20th century. In the four decades following its entry into force, the NPT has ensured massive growth in the peaceful employment of nuclear energy. Nuclear applications in water resources, medicine, environmental management, disease prevention, and food security contribute to improvement of people's lives around the world on a daily basis. Today, the benefits outlined in NPT's Article IV have seen widespread acceptance by worldwide nations with the U.S. leading in commitment to ensuring that benefits accruing from peaceful application of nuclear energy get to be shared equitably amongst states exhibiting commitment to their NPT responsibilities (Browne, Shetty and Somerville 385). Moreover, the NPT has proved an important and integral part of sustaining progress in line with disarmament. This arises from the fact that NPT is the principal legal barrier to proliferation of nuclear weapons and its party states have vowed to have good faith in pursuing negotiations regarding effective measures as related to quickest possible cessation of the nuclear arms race and nuclear disarmament (Jones 11). I was walking for hours just to get to the "other side" while being 3 months pregnant. My over thinking became extreme but my main concern was if it was really worth my babies life incase something wrong happened? Who would have thought anyone could physically and mentally survive this kind of thing let alone a pregnant one, luckily here I am about to tell you the living nightmare I went through. I would not wish this experience on anyone walking on this earth, this journey was something I will never forget. I ambled through the desert for hours feeling as if it was draining my soul and body by each second that was plodding by. With all the extra time I had I couldn't help but just think of all the negative things that could happen. What if when I was going to go over to the United States I couldn't find a job? What if later on I was going to get deported and all my hard work was going to be for nothing? What if life isn't better over there? So many questions haunting me throughout the slow minutes going by. I finally was able to think about all the positive things that would happen to me if I succeeded after 8 hours of pure negativity. • 29. Nuclear Arms are Weapons of Mass Destruction Nuclear arms can easily be classified as weapons of mass destruction, as they destroy all ecosystems that come in contact with it in a matter of seconds, this fairly new and evolving breed of warfare is continuously becoming a bigger threat to society due to the fact that; the government can turn to nuclear power if opposing countries do not comply with their needs. The Cold War was essentially defined by nuclear weapons and the nuclear arm race between United States and the Soviet Union. A high degree of anxiety existed between the two superpowers and millions of citizens around the world were put to risk by nuclear arm race. The use of these nuclear weapons were exceedingly destructive and the consequences were so enormous that the protection of human rights were questioned. However the use of these weapons were merely to prevent their use by others. In other words nuclear weapons were devices of deterrence not warfighting. There was a mutual nuclear weapon ownership with both states possessing nuclear weapons, therefore the odds of war dropped quickly. Both superpowers quickly came to the realization that nuclear war between the two countries could lead to a devastation effect on the world which concluded the cold war. "From 1968 the only universal treaty that stops the spread of nuclear weapons is the Non– Proliferation Treaty (NPT) with about 130 members. Step 8 consisted of adding the values of steps 5–7 (4+1+1 respectively) to indicate an overall wrist/arm score of 6. Step 9 (Neck Position) resulted in a +2 because the employee's neck primarily stayed within the 0–20 degree range. Step 10 (Trunk Position) in a +3 because the individual was bent forward at a 20–60 degree angle. Step 11 (Legs) resulted in a +1 because the employee's legs were stable and supported. Using Table B (Trunk Posture Score) resulted in a score of 4 for step 12. Steps 13 and 14 both resulted in a +1 score because the of the weight of the objects handled and number of repetitive tasks. Step 15 indicated a final score of 6 for the neck, trunk and legs. Plotting the final scores while using Table C of the RULA guide resulted in a final score of 7. This result indicates that major ergonomics risk factors were prevalent at this workstation and significant engineering and administrative controls are needed. King Aspelta Analysis The Colossal Statue of King Aspelta appears to be especially influenced by the statue design of Old Kingdom Egypt, despite being a Kushite work from the Nubian region produced between the years of 593 and 568 BC. Due to the larger than life size of Aspelta, the eye is initially drawn to the pectoral and abdominal region of the body. This portion of the statue is especially idealized as the pectorals are toned and the abdomen is similarly muscular. Furthermore, there is no indication of any weakness or fat, which would be typical of the average human being. Even in the absence of the work's title, this makes it evident that subject was in a position of power and wish to be seen as an ideal and powerful portion. The arms are large, yet not well ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mentuemhet was a mayor and prophet from the city of Amen responsible for the reconstruction of temples that had been destroyed by invading Assyrians. The statue itself is quite similar that of King Aspelta in terms of form. For example, the Mentuemhet is also shown to have an idealized body yet individualized face in the same way as King Aspelta. Furthermore, Mentuemhet is posed in the characteristic left foot forward stance of Old Kingdom Egypt. Likewise, the respective statues wear the same attire, a skirt with the same designs. This also appears to be a nod to the Old Kingdom Egypt as the same piece of clothing can be viewed on statues of leaders from this period, like Menkaure. Also, both are high reliefs in the sense that the figures are not liberated from the granite stone, though their standing depiction gives the illusion that they are free–standing statues when viewed from the front. However, the free–standing illusion provides both with a sense of permanence and longevity of statue which hints toward the timeless aspect of Egyptian statues due to their concept of the ... Starting in the 1949 with the explosion of an atomic bomb(RDS–1) in Russia and ending with the dissolvement of the Soviet Union, the nuclear arms race was an extremely tense few decades that forever changed the United States in many ways. The Arms Race is exactly what it sounds like; a race to amass more advance weapons. During these four decades, the Nuclear Arms Race affected Americans socially through instilling a variety of emotions ranging from fear, to awe of the power of the nuclear weapons, economically through enlarging governmental role within the economy and mostly importantly, the political impacts were more involvement required by the U.S government in world affairs and as a force against Russia. Background: The Nuclear Arms race was part of the Cold War between the U.S. and the U.S.S.R taking place between 1949 and 1991. The race officially started on August 29, 1949 when the Soviets successfully tested their first atomic bomb which scared the U.S. Previously only the U.S. had access to the technology capable of creating an atomic bomb which was conceived during the Second World War as part of the Manhattan Project. Now with U.S.S.R. gaining nuclear technology, the monopoly the U.S had on it was gone. During World War Two the U.S and U.S.S.R were allies (not enemies) fighting against Germany, Japan and Italy but that 's when the similarities ended. They both had very different ideologies once the war ended on which economic system was superior and this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Nuclear Arms Race was started because there wasn 't a balance of power after World War II. The U.S. was the only country at that time which possessed nuclear weapons. Russia, fearing a United States domination of world power, developed a nuclear bomb of its own. Thus started the Arms Race, in which both countries attempted to gain the upper hand in terms of the number of nuclear warheads each possessed. However, the Arms Race ended when several treaties in arms reduction were passed. I believe that in the end, the United States and the Soviet Union realized that one country would eventually win, and the balance of power would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Typically, in popular depictions of arms races, the political calculations that start and regulate the pace of the game remain obscure. As Charles H. Fairbanks, Jr., has noted, "The strange result is that the activity of the other side, and not one's own resources, plans, and motives, becomes the determinant of one's behavior." And what constitutes the "finish line" of the game is the province of assertion, rather than analysis. Many onlookers, and some participants, have claimed that the likelihood of war increases as the accumulation of arms proceeds apace. A close examination of the historical evidence reveals a different picture. Political purposes almost always drive and govern arms races. It is common for a major race to be initiated by a state interested in changing the political status quo. In some cases, the response of states content with the status quo is swift and resolute, but in other cases it is constrained by domestic political or economic considerations or diverted by diplomatic calculations. The course of an arms race has frequently exacerbated a sense of rivalry and occasionally even determined the timing of a war; but most often it has ended in a political settlement between rivals or in a decision by one side to moderate its buildup. The first competitive buildup in which contemporaries used the arms race metaphor seems to have been the naval rivalry in the late nineteenth century, in which France and Russia challenged Britain in the context of ... Unilateral Training Research Paper Unilateral versus Bilateral Training in Stroke Rehabilitation of Persons with Upper Limb Hemiparesis Celeste James, Lindsay Konal, and Jenell Nadolski OT 6230 March 1, 2017 Abstract Purposeful movement of an upper limb can be difficult for many individuals with post–stroke functional limitations such as hemiparesis. Due to the level of disability caused by stroke, researchers have investigated rehabilitation protocols such as unilateral and bilateral training, and the benefits of each in expediting progress towards recovery. Neurophysiological mechanisms were studied, analyzing the effects of unilateral training, bilateral training, and a combination of the two and their effect on the brain. Participants of the studies varied widely. However, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mudie & Matyas (2000) claim that long–term potentiation may result from initial bilateral rehabilitation, which in turn established a perpetual firing pattern of the brain. Once this firing pattern is established, simultaneous activation of both hemispheres aids the more affected limb's hemisphere via crossed corticospinal pathways. This is suspected to occur because the strong neuronal inputs to the less affected hemisphere are able to assist the weaker inputs to the more affected hemisphere. Through this association, the stronger input assists the weaker input to become potentiated, thereby increasing supply to the more affected upper extremity (Mudie & Matyas, ... A number of studies have used the CNTS data to capture political volatility or instability, but there is no consensus on the best approach or best variables to use. To list a few: cite{Sasikumar2009testingtheories} codes a measure of political instability using a weighted index of CNTS variables, combining general strikes, demonstrations and government crises; cite{ghosn2011domestic} uses demonstrations and government crises as separate variables; cite{Brunetti1998uncertainty} use number of changes in the national constitution as a measure of policy uncertainty; cite{Roe2011politicalinstability} use the government crisis measure. The Politics And Last National Security Essay Arms Trade, Weapons Sales, Armament Sales are just few terms used for the manufacture and sale or trade of devices to protect a country, attack another and quite possibly benefit economically, or politically on a global scale. Countries, entities, factions, make, sell, and give things of destruction to others. This is a reality. The intent of this paper is to provide information that individuals can use to determine the necessity. The economics, the politics and last the National Security are the three main discussion points. History History of Arms Trade, Weapons Trade or the trade any of items necessary to protect, feed or conquer dates back to the dawn of time. Scholars note that arms trade or weapons trade could be traced back 300,000 years (Thieme). As "humans" evolved and interacted with each other, scholars speculate that the trade of many things occurred. The trade would include stories, knowledge, which can be considered intangibles, then the tangibles, seeds for food, things to make tools, how to make a shelter, weapons for protection and survival. Basically trade included instruction and things needed for every aspect of life; to survive. Agers 2 Elements of Thought Think about it this way. You have a clan or tribe with really good sharp rocks and a clan or tribe with really good wood staffs. You put both together you have a more lethal device, for protection and providing food. So it is very important for a dress maker to know how to take accurate measurements. For a successful garment cutting, one must know the size and shape of the human body, for which designing has to be done. Anatomy begins with the eight head theory (Adu–Boakye et.al 2012). 2.1.1 Body Anatomy The father of tailoring Mr. Wampon drew seven imaginary lines across the body structure for the purpose of easy measurement in tailoring. The whole body structure was lengthwise divided into eight equal parts, which is known as the eight head theory. This theory has become the foundation of all fashion drawing and for understanding the body shape and structure ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Nuclear Arms Race The nuclear arms race involving both the Unites States of America and the Soviet Union will forever be part of the foundation of what we know emergency management to be today. This foundation was the result of the need to prepare, not only for nuclear war, but also the fallout. In order to properly prepare for and react to a potential nuclear attack, almost every level of State and Local Government had a designee responsible for Civil Defense. Eventually, this led to the creation of different government entities such as; The Federal Civil Defense Administration [FCDA] and the Office of Defense Mobilization which was a Department of Defense [DOD] function. • 118. Nuclear Arms Race Research Paper There were many impacts of the nuclear arms race. Some we're positive, and some were negative. The nuclear arms race was a race to advance nuclear technology. This race was primarily between the Soviet Union and the United States. There were large monetary investments from both nations into their nuclear arms programs. Everyone thought both sides would be destroyed in the end, both economically and physically. The nuclear arms race impacted civilians, economies, military, and technology in both nations. The nuclear arms race was caused by the decreasing Soviet–American relations. This was because the United States wanted to control all atomic knowledge and weaponry. The United States proposed the Acheson Lilienthal report on March 28th, 1946. ... Teleoperated master–slave anthropomorphic robotic arm with the single axis revolute joints having six degree of freedom was designed [13]. The master used the human machine interface (HMI) to operate in RTOS. The master incorporated the motion capture devices, such as vision sensors to transform the motion into analog voltages so as to actuate the exoskeleton robotic arm. The human machine interface comprised of GUI (Graphical User Interface) system, an Exoskeleton Robotic Arm and a Mode selector which enabled the operator to choose among the three modes of operation (manual, autonomous and semi–autonomous). We humans are companionable with the amorphous environment which is the principal benefit of advancement of Exoskeleton robots in the field of teleoperation. The 6–DOF exoskeleton enables the robot to elevate and shift items anywhere in space. A 6–DOF exoskeleton is very analogous to homo–sapiens in regards to no. and joints position. The limitation of this model was inadequate precision because of the non–linearity and mechanical coupling of the joints. [13] Nakai implemented a human interface technique using force feedback mechanism attached to the operator's hand and named it Sensor Arm System [5]. The arm served the basis of the Master–Slave manipulator system in Teleoperation. The arm with which he experimented had 7–DOF same as that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Canada's Nuclear Arms Race Right after the end of World War II with the Allied forces rejoicing over a marginal victory over Germany, a new and different kind of war was brewing over the tensions of the Western and Eastern blocs, a kind that wouldn't be fought on the battlefield. The Cold War began in the year of 1945 and lasted all the way until 1991. A cause of the Cold War was the tension between two former allies of World War II, the United States of America and the Soviet Union (also known as the USSR, which stood for the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics). The United States had a democratic government and a capitalist economy, while the Soviet Union had a communist government, each trying to spread their political views and gain world power. The Korean War was essentially a war that was started when North Korea decided to invade South Korea, each backed up by their respective allies. When Canada first intervened in the war, Canada supplied three Royal Canadian Navy destroyers (HMCS Athabaskan, HMCS Cayuga, and HMCS Sioux) and a Royal Canadian Air Force transport squadron, the No. 426 "Thunderbird" Squadron. After being pressured by the American, UN, and domestic pressure, Prime Minister Louis St. Laurent announced that the Canadian Army Special Force (CASF), later dubbed the 25th Canadian Infantry Brigade Group, was to be created and used to expand contributions to South Korea. This was very important because the extra squadrons and machinery helped turn the tides in many battles within the war. Canada also contributed 26000 as part of a United Nations force which consisted of 16 countries at the time. These troops were sent for both combat and for peacekeeping after the war. Out of the 516 Canadians that died, 312 died from combat. The peacekeepers that were left behind after the war stayed for three years as military observers, and the final few Canadian soldiers left Korea in 1957. These troops were extremely important to the war because they provided backup and aid to the UN force, and also acted as peacekeepers after the war was over to ensure that the Korean War wouldn't have a repeat. Nuclear Arms Race Research Paper Kennedy Johnson AP Euro Mr. Chin May 26, 2016 The Nuclear Arms Race After the end of World War II, the world was left with the two global Superpowers, the U.S and the the Soviet Union. Having completely contradicting government ideologies, these two countries desperately fought each other over foreign influence, inspiring what is known as the Cold War. Named for it's lack of military action, the Cold War was hardly a war at all but more an arms race between American democracy and Russian Communism. Though it never felt the heat of battle, this altercation between the two Superpowers (the U.S. and the Soviet Union) included one of the quickest advancements of military technology in global history. Following the introduction of the IBM's, Secretary of State John Foster Dulles coined the policy known as "Massive retaliation" , dictating that any major Soviet attack would be met with a massive nuclear response. Inspired by fear and skeptical assumptions of what the Soviet Union could do, this policy in turn acted as an empty unneeded form of retaliation, attempting to discourage any possible Soviet Union capitalization. But, after all these threats, Dulles acts upon this assumption declaring that "the United States will protect its allies through the "deterrent of massive retaliatory power." The policy announcement was further evidence of the Eisenhower administration's decision to rely heavily on the nation's nuclear arsenal as the primary means of defense against communist aggression," ("Dulles Announces Policy of "massive Retaliation"). Later, in the 1960's, the strategic doctrine known as "Mutually Assured Destruction" was developed as a scapegoat in case Russia ever gained superiority over the United States. I just whimper and close my eyes waiting for the impact of his fist but, it never came. I open my eyes to see a tall boy with a red head of hair. I'm pretty sure you know what happened next. Now you're all caught up. The boy I don't know, I presume, is a new kid. Who's fighting Ethan in the middle of the school hallway because of me, I think. The nuclear age opened during World War II with a blinding light; a deafening roars fire and blood. The world's first nuclear bomb exploded at Alamogordo on 16 July 1945. It had a very complex history. The sensational discovery of nuclear fission first came in Germany in December 1938. British research then showed that the manufacture of a nuclear weapon was almost possible. The American technological, scientific and industrial effort in the "Manhattan Project", that actually built the bomb. At last initial test was carried out in the wastes of New Mexico desert. Besides, India is so close to each one of them in terms of shared history, inheritance and culture that one cannot help but recognize her overwhelming influence. For them, to divorce the past, which all these countries shared with India, is to cut themselves off from their roots. 6. None of the NNWS of South Asia matches the Indian power capabilities with respect to any of the attributes of power. The power difference is so enormous that no NNWS can either singly or collectively encounter the Indian pressure and threat. Therefore, both militarily and economically the states are extremely vulnerable vis–à–vis India. All these issues bear out the fact that India, a single overwhelming factor, and looms very large in the minds of the small states of South Asia when matters not only of external relations but also of domestic importance are considered. 7. • 146. Erb 's Palsy : A Form Of Brachial Plexus Palsy Erb's Palsy Amanda Metrikin 5/11/16 Pediatrics Erb's palsy is a form of brachial plexus palsy. Brachial plexus palsy occurs when nerves in the brachial plexus get damaged and signals cannot travel in their normal pattern from the brain to the arm muscles. This causes paralysis (palsy) or weakness in the arm (brachial) region, as well as atrophy of the deltoid, biceps, and brachialis muscles. About two out of every 1,000 babies have this condition and it often occurs during birth when the infant's neck is stretched during a difficult delivery. Common risk factors of Erb's palsy include use of forceps or a vacuum during delivery, large infant size, small maternal size or excessive maternal weight gain, a large infant, breech birth, or prolonged labor. Recovery of movement and feeling in the arm can reoccur with daily physical and occupational therapy, as well as an active role by the parents to help maintain maximum function (Erb's Palsy Ortho Info). The brachial plexus is made up of five large nerves, which come out of the spinal cord between the vertebrae and give movement and feeling to the arm. After coming out of the neck, the nerves come together and then divide amongst the muscles and tissues of the arm. The area of the brachial plexus runs from the neck and passes under the collarbone and is the major area of the nerves of the armpit. When the upper nerves are affected, this is known as Erb's palsy. The infant may not be able ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Crisp shows that people are too nonchalant about nuclear weapons and their dangerous effects because of their daily lives and work which do not allow for them to worry about these threats through the use of rhetorical appeals. The earth already suffers from the climate change, yet the American people still ignore the history of what happened to Hiroshima and Nagasaki and all the damages U.S inflicted. Countries yet race to develop plentiful nuclear weapons that are having conflict with other countries. • 154. What Were The Main Cause Of The Post War Nuclear Arms Race? What were the main causes of the post–war nuclear arms race? The post World War Two nuclear arms race can arguably be seen as the defining event of the Cold War. For the first time in history a weapon had been created that had the potential to end humanity as we knew it, a weapon with such power that one single use could decisively change the course of war and reduce a potent enemy to an impotent conquest. Yet it is because of the magnitude and influence of this weapon that the nuclear arms race began and then grew, and ultimately remained just that – a race: two competing blocs chasing nuclear supremacy over the other, without ever committing to its use. The post–war nuclear arms race is therefore defined as the competition during the Cold War between the United Sates and the Soviet Union for nuclear weapon supremacy. Allies of these two countries were aligned in opposing blocs and did pursue their own nuclear weapon programmes, however none engaged in warhead production on the same scale as the US and the USSR. The first atomic weapon was developed by the United States during World War Two under the Manhattan Project. Even though the US (and UK) and the USSR were key allies, Stalin had not been informed of the development and production of a nuclear weapon due to distrust on the part of the US and UK (In actuality Stalin had known about the Manhattan project through a network of spies). Following the successful test at Trinity the US President, Harry Truman, authorised ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
