How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stage?
1. How did you use media
technologies in the construction
and research, planning and
evaluation stage?
2. YouTube
Most of the research I did on music videos in my genre was on YouTube. YouTube
allowed me to look at existing products and analyse them to determine different
codes and conventions for my genre. During my research stage I also used
YouTube to look at other media students work to evaluate the quality of work I
had to produce and also to pick up different ideas for my own video.
I also used YouTube during my planning stage to upload a video of my storyboard
in time with the music. Finally, I uploaded my final product to YouTube which
allowed me to receive feedback from other users on the site and also allowed my
video to be easily accessible by various audiences.
3. Wix.com
I used Wix.com in this project to present my work. Wix.com allowed me to create
my own interactive website to display my work in different sections like research
and planning. Wix.com had various features which made my site more interactive
than that of a blog and it allowed me to present my work in a much neater
format.
Some of the features on Wix.com kept all my work together by letting me embed
YouTube videos and Slideshares directly to the webpage rather than using
hyperlinks. When I first started using Wix.com I was also able to embed Prezis but
unfortunately this feature was removed and I did have to use links to the Prezis
instead.
Wix.com was very easy to use and had many features like galleries and animated
buttons that gave my site a more professional look.
4. iMovie
During the construction of my music video I used iMovie to edit my video. iMovie
had two interfaces a simple one and an advanced one. The simple interface made
it easy to put all the clips in order and edit them to roughly the correct length.
The advanced interface made it much easier to sync the visuals with the audio
and allowed me to add various visual effects to the video.
iMovie also allowed me to create different camera movements in the editing
booth after the recording had been made – for example a zoom in and a zoom
out.
Another handy feature of iMovie was that it allowed me to upload straight to
YouTube without having to mess with different save files, making it a much
smoother experience than the year before.
5. Prezi and slideshare allowed me to add a diversity to the way I presented my
work on my webpage. Although both are very similar they allowed me to present
my work in a more interactive manner and in a way that doesn’t look as plain and
boring as an essay.
Prezi’s features included animated presentations with the ability to add videos
and pictures. It was very good for presenting my research and evaluation and also
when analysing videos.
Slideshare is a site that lets you upload your Microsoft PowerPoint presentations
to the internet and then let you embed it onto your webpage. Slideshare was a
clean way to present a lot of work in one go rather than the work spanning an
entire webpage. It broke up pieces of work to allow for a nicer experience when
reading through my work.

6. Photoshop
I used Photoshop to create my digipak and my magazine advert. Photoshop is one
of the most advanced editing programs I have used and has many features that
enabled me to create a successful product. The use of layers allowed me to
create my digipak to scale by using a template I got from the internet, along with
being able to place any image where I please meant that I could create a very
authentic looking album.
One of the main features I used on photoshop was the adding of and formatting
of different texts, it allowed me to create a specific look for album in which the
typography of the bands name was very unique to the band – as if it was their
own logo.
