Presentation
Hellotoeveryone, we are Nyuma and Leti and
todaywewillexplainthelife of Michael Faraday and
playonone of hismostfamousinventions, thefirstelectric
motor.
Michael Faraday
He excelled in thehistory of science as a physicist and a
chemist. He wasconsideredone of
themostinfluentialscientist of all time. He wasbornon 22
September 1791 in Newington, Surrey, England.

Son of a blacksmith, had a poorchildhood. He
waseducated at Sandemanianmaintained by thesect,
whichfollowedthebiblicalbookofJob, emphasizing human
weakness.
ThisledtoanapproximationcautiousFaraday'swork.
In 1805, he leftschoolwith 13 yearsandwenttoLondon,
where he becameapprenticeofa bookbinderandbookseller.
In the store he found a
copyoftheEncyclopediaBritannicaandwithitsreadinghe
becamefascinatedby electricity.

In 1812, Sir Humphry Davy (from 1778 until 1829),
thefamousEnglishchemist, isworkingtemporarilyblindedin
hislaboratoryat the Royal Institute. A
customerofthebookstorerecommendedforFaraday
assistant. In 1813, with 21 years, Faraday assumedthe
post ofassistant.
In 1815, he becamesuperintendentofequipmentoftheRoyal
Institute in London. In thefollowingyears,
followstheworkoftheDanishphysicistHans Christian Orsted
(from 1777 until 1851),
andtheworkoftheFrenchphysicistAndre-Marie Ampere
(from 1775 until 1836). He buildshisownbatteries.

In 1821, he discoversthatelectricitycan produce a
rotatorymotion, theprincipleoftheelectricmotor. Constructs
a primitivemodelofengine. In 1823, he studies how gases
becomeliquidsat lowtemperatures. Liquefiedchlorine.
In 1824, he became a memberoftheRoyal
SocietyofLondon. In 1825,
workingwithAnalyticalChemistry. Faraday
discoveredbenzene. With 33 years, becomes director
ofthe Royal Institute.

In 1831, discoversthatelectricitycan be produced at one
time waspassingitby a magnet.
Youcallthiselectromagneticinduction.
Publishesitsdiscoveryin "Experimental
ResearchAboutElectricity(First Series).”
In 1841, with 50 years,
suffersfrompoorhealthandwenttolive in the country side. In
1845, he discoveredthata magneticfieldcan
rotatetheplaneofpolarization(vibration) ofthelight.
Thisbecameknownas the Faraday rotation,
whichprovidesthedesiredlink betweenlightandmagnetism.

In 1860, with 69 years, waivestheRoyal Institute. Lives in
"graceandfavor" oneoftheroyal castles at Hampton Court,
nearLondon. In 1867, with 75 years, Faraday dies at
Hampton Courton August 25 andisburiedin
HighgateCemetery.
