2. Who discovered electricity?
We do not have an exact discoverer of electricity but
we know it was discovered in Greece.
The Greeks discovered that rubbing fur and tree resin
caused an attraction between them.
There were other people who invented electric
machines some centuries later.
3.
4. When was it discovered?
It is thought that electricity was discovered around the
year 600 B.C.
It was found in the form of magnetism.
5. What was the first application for
electricity?
The first application for electricity was a large battery
used to build an electromagnet that had a lot of power.
It was invented by Joseph Henry. He finished building it
in 1831.
6. What was it for?
This battery was used to build an electromagnet.
This electromagnet was used to lift very heavy loads
such as metals.
7. How long was it running?
This application was running for two years, from 1829
to 1831, because after this application, a new one was
invented.
Nowadays this kind of applications have evolved and
they are a lot different.

9. What was the first electric
machine?
Otto von Guericke (1602-1686) was the one who first
invented an electrostatic generator in 1672.
He observed that his machine could produce a
repulsion.
This machine took out sparks from a sulphur globe.
10. Parts of the machine
This machine consisted of a sulphur globe moved by
a handle, on which a charge was induced.
11. Where did the energy come from?
The energy of this electrostatic generator came from a
piece of ambar.
The energy of the piece of ambar was later transported
to a sulphur ball.
This sulphur ball was the source of energy of the
generator.
The generator transformed kinetic energy into
electrical energy.
