SECONDARY LITERACY LAB
The Secondary Literacy Lab
Is a program designed to enhance the literacy development and English
proficiency for multilingual secondary students.
The
Secondary
Literacy
Lab also
provides
hands on
experience
for
secondary
pre-service
teachers.
The Secondary
Literacy Lab
creates a
learning
environment for
both pre-
service teacher
and high school
students.
The Lab
provide a
comfortabl
e
environme
nt in which
student
can strive
to be the
bet they
can be!
Pre-service teachers chose
to work with the novel Bless
Me Ultima by Rudolfo Anaya
Students read the novel during the camp and have
activities to strengthen their literacy skill.
Pre-service teachers make effective lesson plans to
keep the student engaged.
Pre-service teachers are divided into groups according to
their field. This picture shows the English, Math, and
Science groups.
High school students are assigned to one pre-service teacher
each which facilitate the one-on-one session.
The one-on-
one
interaction
creates
meaningful
bonding
which
facilitates the
teaching and
learning
process.
Each pre-
service teacher
creates
different lesson
plans to fit the
need of their
student .
After the students read and finish their classwork , everyone
discuses the book openly.
The Secondary Literacy Lab has attracted visitors from
other Universities around the country.
Students
working
while a
visitor
takes
notes.
Students are
discussing what they
have learned that
day.
Pre-Service
teachers are
reading along
with the
students to
maximize
output.
Pre-service
teachers and
students working
together.
The Literacy Lab provides meaningful opportunities for student
and pre-service teachers in a comfortable learning
environment.
