1. Newsletter Issue 16 June 2013
After a short break from newsletters for personal reasons we’re
back and full of news!
Tesco
Tesco has kindly agreed for Diabetes
UK to be their charity of the year,
pictured here is one of our members
with the Tesco staff after one of the
collections. We will be joining in some
of their activities during the year.
Some of the money raised will be used
for research into a vaccine to prevent
type 1.
Dr Alkharusi Retires
The Lancelots presented Dr
Alkharusi with flowers and
congratulations on her retirement.
Many of us remember the care and
support she gave when she was the
paediatric diabetes consultant at
Southport. Her response- Thank
you so much! The flowers are
beautiful. I am really touched and
humbled. Best wishes to all at the diabetes support network. I still
remember all x x x
2. Therakind
Some of our group went along to the Ramada to meet with a
team from Therakind who specialise in paediatric deliver systems
for medication. They are planning to develop a nasal spray
version of glucagon. This was well attended and very informative.
Look out for this company, lovely team of people.

Easter Quiz
Oh what fun we had at the park
searching for the answers to the clues
of our quiz. Of course the prize at the
end was the most ‘egg-citing’ bit!
Paws in the Park
We had a lovely day in Hesketh park raising awareness of
our group and type 1 diabetes. It generated a lot of
interest including a large dog who was very attracted to
our hot dog sausages. Thanks to all who came along to
say hi to us.
Thank You!
3. Many Thanks to Sew Crafty Hillside for their continuing support
with a collection box.
Thank You!
And a big thank you to Lucy’s grandma who asked for
donations to our group instead of birthday presents.
London
One of our members is off to London with Diabetes UK
next week to lobby parliament to continue to improve care
for children with diabetes and to increase funding for
research for a cure.
Diabetes Week
Diabetes week is from the 9th
to 15th
June this year and we will
be having an awareness stand in Tesco Kew on Sunday 9th from
10 till 4. We will also be doing “bag-packing” there that day so
if anyone can spare some time to help out please let us know,
we hope to raise enough money there to pay for a DUK holiday
or a family weekend.
Summer Fun Day!
4. Don’t
miss out on the fun, games, face painting. Why not
bring a picnic, family and friends.
Anything suitable for a raffle prize will be much
appreciated and can be dropped off to any of the
committee
Hope to see you at our next event!
