Emma, Joy and Barnie at Ednburgh Zoo
On October 3rd Blue Peter featured Joy and I on their programme to highlight the
befriending service The Butterfly Trust offer to support those with Cystic Fibrosis and other
respiratory conditions. Filming took place over a weekend a few weeks earlier with Joy
being filmed at home with her family showing her daily routine, followed by filming at
Edinburgh Zoo with myself. Joy was surprised with a visit from Blue Peter presenter
Barney who also joined us at the Zoo. He spent time chatting and getting to know us, and
The Butterfly Trust, and interviewed Joy. We had a brilliant time filming and loved seeing
ourselves on tv too! It was great to be given the opportunity to share and promote the work
of The Butterfly Trust.

2. Directors Dialogue
Dear Friends
It has been a good and very productive summer and autumn in The Butterfly Trust.
The work we have done has been more varied than ever before and the demand for
our help continues to grow with an increase of 24% in the last financial year.
We continue to monitor closely the developments regarding the planned welfare
reforms relevant to our client group and shape our response programme
accordingly. Our managers have been attending external training and we have
begun our process of up skilling our support workers. Our planned extended
recruitment programme to ensure we can respond effectively to the changed system
is in infancy stage at present and will gather momentum in 2012 in preparation for
changes to be introduced in 2013.
From the Trust's inception much emphasis has been on the value of a skilled
volunteer resource as an ideal model for delivering prompt, professional services in
response to a fluctuating and unpredictable demand. These volunteers are one of
our most valuable resources contributing in areas that range from befriending to
fundraising and from transport to massage therapy. We have appointed a new
Volunteer Co-ordinator to supervised and support our growing team over the coming
year.
Spread the word
We are looking for your help to raise awareness of The Butterfly Trust and
Cystic Fibrosis. Can you think of ways that you can let people know about who
we are and how we make a difference to the lives of people with Cystic Fibrosis
in Scotland. Please help us and spread the word!

Kirsteen
Kirsteen was off doing her school work experience at the local primary school as a
classroom assistant and thoroughly enjoyed helping to educate the youngsters. She
said “My work experience as a classroom assistant was really good. I was given
different tasks and enjoyed completing them.” Kirsteen has Cystic Fibrosis but she
does not let that prevent her from leading a full and productive life. Well done Kirsteen!
Hollie
Hollie has been spending time at her local art gallery for school work experience. Hollie
is a keen photographer and the gallery has agreed to hang one of her photographs.
Here in the photo they are discussing her photograph and where to hang it in the
gallery. Well done Hollie for this great a achievement and good luck with a future career
in photography.
Esme
Esme, looking lovely in her butterfly costume, thanked us for making her family holiday
possible. Her mum said “After a long winter of hospitalisations we really needed some
time together to just have fun!” Esme loved the Owls at the World Owl Centre and
