Gang Graffiti And Violence
Graffiti is writing or drawings that are scribbled on walls or surfaces. But these drawings or code
writings are illegally written or drawn on public properties of not their own. Lots of places that have
odd or racist writing on public properties are known to be illegal drawings. A lot of known groups
draw specific signs and codes to communicate to others or to claim properties that aren't theirs, to
show intimidation and fear to others. Those groups are called gang graffiti. Gang graffiti accede
violence to show preeminence of there such called territories. When gangs have indicated their
neighborhood, anyone that's not part of their gang will have a higher chance of being attacked. An
example occurred on April 6, 2016, fifteen–year–old high school player had a brutal bleeding due to

When he stated that he was not in a gang that's when he was assailed. This shows that if you have
entered a gang member "territories" and you are not in a gang you will have a high chance of being

be reported to the police no cares resulting to people who keep on illegally scrawling. In western
Australia, it is very popular to have graffiti that has is drawn illegally, but it grows the public's
sensitivity. Meaning that it is a threat to the civic order and the safety of the community. Not only
that but it cost a lot of money to remove illegal graffiti that has is drawn and graffiti takes a lot of
time to remove from walls meaning you will need to buy expensive equipment. In 2010 Seattle's
metro transit spent $734, 000 just to remove graffiti of buses, tunnels, parks, rides, and bus shelters.
If it only cost $734,00 in Seattle imagine the world. Aside from that, it has been estimated that it

seriousness of these early gangs. The best available evidence suggests that the more serious street
gangs likely did not emerge until the early part of the nineteenth century (Sante, 1991)." Based on

Teens And Gang Violence
About one third of every community experiences some sort of gang violence (Tucker). Although, it
may not directly affect one specific community. It is making a great impact on the new generation.
Gang violence among teens has become more prevalent in today's society. For example, during the
summer of 2017 in Lancaster South Carolina, five teenagers were murdered by other teens in gang
affiliated behaviors. Thus, resulting in imprisonment. The question is how we punish these teens.
Should they receive the death penalty for committing an act of murder? Or should they spend the
rest of their lives in prison with a chance of being released back into society. What is the value of
their lives? Understand they are in the prime of their lives. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Philosopher Michel Foucault's work Discipline and Punish speaks about the changes punishment
and discipline have taken. Punishment has always been used to discourage criminals from unlawful
acts. In the beginning, punishment was aimed at the body through things like corporal punishment.
Now with prison systems in place, the aim is at what Foucault calls the "soul". Foucault questions if
these new methods of punishment and discipline are indeed affective.
Commonly the criminals who receive death penalties have committed an act of terrorism, hate
crimes, or murder. There are currently thirty–one states in which the death penalty is legalized,
including South Carolina. In the state of South Carolina, by law, a person receives the death penalty
when murder is committed with one of twelve aggravating circumstances. "A person who is
convicted of or pleads guilty to murder must be punished by death, or by a mandatory minimum
term of imprisonment for thirty years to life. If the State seeks the death penalty and a statutory
aggravating circumstance is found beyond a reasonable doubt pursuant to subsections (B) and (C),
and a recommendation of death is not made, the trial judge must impose a sentence of life
imprisonment" ("Code of Laws").
The support for and against the death penalty is equally weighted. Those who are for the death
penalty say that it creates both specific and general deterrence. Deterrence is the action of
discouraging an action or event

Youth Gang Violence
Youth gang violence has turned into an unmistakable issue in the public eye reaching across national
boundaries as well as socio–economic, cultural, racial, and class distinctions. Not only is the
problem widely dispersed geographically, but its incidence is also extensive, making it a common,
acknowledged, and a mainstream behavior for many teens. Gang activity is extremely common in
lower income neighborhoods and ethnic ghettos where underprivileged children are regularly
recruited. Youth gang violence has always been an issue in the United States since the 1950's but
many crime analysts tended to overlook the problem of youth gang violence in major cities due to
historical events such as the Korean War, U.S. Supreme Court ruled segregation was illegal in the
Brown v. Board of Education decision, and the Civil Rights Movement. The first nationwide study
undertaken of the nature and extent of gang violence was reported by Walter B. Miller. Miller whose
study concentrated primarily on the increase of gang violence and four major motives such as
respect, guarding local communities, control, and gain the of monetary goods.
According to a study shown in Seattle, upheld by the Office of Juvenile Justice Delinquency

Gang Violence
Did you know that gang violence affects our world today? In this century we're experiencing more
gang related crimes ever than before. Current research shows that there is an estimate of 250,000
gang members in America (Almonte and Desmond 4). The more gangs the more killings.
Adolescents are getting more involved in gangs, because of this dropout rates are increasing. The
more dropouts the more drug dealers. Once they begin to sell drugs they end up in jail. This is where
we come in as taxpayers. Gang violence affects the public with the crimes they commit. Murders,
robbery, and vandalism are some of the main crimes that are committed. These things can be
prevented if we pay more attention to our teens. Rehab centers and ... Show more content on

This is when you have to duck and hide or break out running. The public is put at high risk because
of this, because you have innocent bystanders who can be killed or injured badly. Children to the
elderly have to be aware of their surroundings. Knives are also a weapon that gang members mainly
use but knives and guns aren't the only weapons. . Current research shows that gun violence costs
the economy at least $229 billion every year. This is including $8.6 billion in direct expenses for
medical and emergency care, the direct costs of hospital use for gun assault injuries by itself was
estimated to $8.4 million on 2010. Taxpayers paid 65% of these costs (Follman and Lurie par.1).
Vandalism or graffiti is another crime that affects the public. Taxpayers have to deal with this
because we have to pay for the graffiti to get off of buildings, cars, or homes. Graffiti encourages
more crimes to happen because if one gang doesn't like what another gang puts out there, then it
becomes a gang fight. Graffiti promotes gangs, this shows that this is that particular gangs turf. Once
you notice the graffiti you automatically know that a gang has taken over this area. Members wear
graffiti tags to announce what gang they're in (Almonte and Desmond 13). Gangs may identify
themselves in many different ways, graffiti is just one of the most common ones. According to
Justice, "the removal and preventing of graffiti vandalism is way costly to the

The Problem Of Gang Violence
Gang violence has grown to be a great problem in El Salvador in the last 30 years. Gangs have
grown into large, complex organized crime units; the two largest gangs, MS13 (also known as Mara
Salvatrucha 13) and Barrio18 (also known as Calle18), now encompass large parts of Central
America. Both gangs rely heavily on local drug–peddling, which drives most of the general gang
violence. The desire for control over certain areas had forged a fierce rivalry, in which civilians are
often endangered when caught in the crossfire. In 2014, El Salvador alone counted 900 homicides a
month, in which at least 30 of those murders were ruled femicides. Both MS13 and Barrio18 are
active in the human–trafficking trade; the kidnapping of women and girls who are eventually sold
into sex slavery is extremely common, which perpetuates a toxic cycle of exploitation of women by
men by enforcing toxic masculinity based in the oppression of women. El Salvador is not only
facing a domestic women 's rights emergency, but a internal safety crisis of epic proportions. State
authority officials are often involved in extortion rings, which has only heightened the prevalence of
public transport extortion. The pervasiveness of extortion has become an extensive problem; local
economies cannot prosper while paying costly gang–taxes, which despite offering the residents a
promise of security and protection, only contribute to the poverty by hindering any surplus which
typically characterizes the beginnings of

In society most people feel safe and do not have a sense of urgency that something appalling will
transpire around them. Although these people may hear about the surplus of current events going on
around the world today that may be abysmal they tend to not care because they perceive that it will
not arise around their home. Gang violence in youths is a prominent problem around numerous
portions of the world today. Youths are forced to go along with the engagements taken place in the
gang which can be cataclysmic to society and themselves. The life of a youth and their family can be
altered by just one simple decision to join a gang, put many people in danger of being hurt, however

This is noticeable because it not only affects the appearance of the youth but it also affects their
decisions. Due to the colossal amounts of drugs consumed by these teens they are habitually
subconscious while making decisions which leave them susceptible to constructing bad decisions. .
It is tough for a family of a youth in a gang but it is even tougher for the youth themselves to
acclimate to. Therefore as portrayed, it can be really overwhelming for both a youth and their family
when their child decides to join a gang. Gangs put society in an unsafe state filled with destruction.
Lee states that "A twenty one year old man was stabbed to death by several gang members" (2). This
is just a portion of the massive deterioration caused by a gang. Gangs tend to do things that are even
more severe, especially youth gangs. Hagdorn justifies this by stating "youth gangs destroy society
both mentally and physically". (8) They destroy society physically by hurting people and killing
innocent people. The mental obliteration takes a more sophisticated method. They use stereotypical
comments that portray prejudice conceptions which pertain to mainly ethnic groups and different
racial groups. Cohan mentions that "the number of street gang killings has risen up more than 50 %
between 2005 to 2008" (1). This means many innocent people are losing their lives while doing their
everyday routine such as walking on the streets. If walking on the streets puts

Gangs And Gang Violence In The UK
It was once the case, that organised criminals used firearms specifically and temporarily to address a
given incident or conflict. This was evident in the days of the Kray brothers, when on March 8th,
1966 three men were shot and wounded and one man killed (Greco 2015). However, in reality we
are now far from those days as guns are now routinely carried. Youth fights, which might once have
been settled with fists are now settled with knives and handguns. Over the years the succession of
youth killings in the UK has astonished, horrified and saddened the nation. The full impact of gang
crime in London, was revealed in 2014 with Met figures showing, 6,600 violent offences were

This can be verified in the fact that, communication is a lot simpler with the development of
technology and we share each other's cultures and life experiences through travel and the
importation and exportation of goods. As a result we are living in a huge global economy, where if
something happens in one part of the world it can have a rippling effects worldwide. This process is
referred to as globalisation. This was validated by Middens (1990:64) who argued that
"globalisation can be described as the intensification of worldwide social relations which link distant
localities in such a way that local happenings are shaped by events occurring many miles away"
(Smith, M. K. and Doyle M. 2002). This proclamation, can be evidenced by occurrences of the early
1970's, which saw a decline in the manufacturing industry which affected major inner cities, both in
the UK and in the USA. During this period cities such as Chicago, Philadelphia and New York lost
more than fifty percent of their manufacturing industry. It may also be accepted that the impact of
this decline had a detrimental effect on subordinate communities, consequently permitting the social
divisions and income inequality between the rich and the poor during the latter part of the twentieth
century to become steadily wider. In addition, these occurrencese resulted in greater social problems
in the inner cities, an increase in poverty and petty crime (Wilson,

The Importance Of Gang Violence
I. Gang members are 10 times more than the amount of law enforcement agencies with the
thousands of distinct sets of gangs. With the diverse types of gangs evolving throughout the country,
gang violence is a consistent amongst gangs for the control of neighborhood turf and retributions for
violation of gang norms.
a) The Corner: Neighborhood Attachment and the Importance of Turf:
With constant violence within their turf of boundaries in retaliation against other gangs and
protecting their neighborhood would cause their community to think that they are engaging in such
violent acts as protectors. To be in control and to have control of their turf comes into consideration
that gang members will engage in violent activities to send set a point across to other gangs that they
have ownership and the means of controlling what goes on within their boundary.
b) The Crew: Group Processes and Social Networks:
The formation of gang groups is based on the common interests that sets them apart from society
through the act of violence and retributions toward other gangs and anyone who thinks different of
them. This section describes the distinct type of specific identities that set each gang apart from one
another which influenced the facilitation in the creation of gangs, the norms within their gang, and
the violence that they carry out. Such identity are as follows: group processes, intergroup conflict,
reciprocity, and status seeking.

Gangs And Violence Essay
Gangs are not a new phenomenon, but they are still a problem that has to be addressed. Gangs are
involved in a number of criminal activities. In the last few years or so many urban cities have
experienced an epidemic of youth violence that is rapidly spreading from the inner cities to the
suburbs. Gangs are no longer the problem of those who live in the crime–ridden neighborhoods
where the gangs thrive; they are now everyone's problem. Along with the violence that comes from
gangs, there are also other economic costs of gangs, such as medical costs and incarceration. There
are many factors for why young people get involved with gangs. Communities and law enforcement
have come up with a number of programs and ideas dedicated to preventing gang development and
recruitment. Gangs often form along ethnic and racial lines, although more recently youths are
joining for economic purposes. According to Jill Leovy gangs are created as a replacement for law
enforcement because minority groups feel that law enforcement doesn't care about them. She states
that, "Black America has not benefited from a state monopoly on violence" (Leovy, pg8). Usually,
the state is the only institution that's allowed to use force to ensure the law is held in place. She
explains that because of this failure to stand up for black people, these black communities came up
with their own, alternative systems of justice to replace the governmental law. In response to this

In the teenage years there is a fight for identity, and belonging. Thus gangs will take advantage of
this desire, and need, because young people are highly impressionable. A common public perception
is that most youth are coerced into joining a gang (Howell, 2007). The opposite is indeed true. Most
join of their own volition. "Gangs are often at the center of appealing social action– parties, hanging
out, music, drugs, and opportunities to socialize with members of the opposite sex. The gang may be
appealing because it meets a youth's social needs." (Howell, 2007) Many young people willing join
gangs because of their protection, fun, respect, money, or because a friend was in the gang.
Many innocent civilians are caught in the crossfire of gang violence. Like terrorism, many civilians'
homes, work places, and transportation, is "up for grabs" in aiding ongoing turf– wars, and gang
retaliations. Many of the gang members obviously have varying perspectives and perceptions on
dealings with one another, over both serious, and more trivial situations.
From an "order" perspective, the situation is looked at from an objective point of view. To keep

Gangs: Crime and Gang Violence
Gangs Gangs are a violent reality that people have to deal with in today 's cities. What has made
these groups come about? Why do kids feel that being in a gang is both an acceptable and
prestigious way to live? The long range answer to these questions can only be speculated upon, but
in the short term the answers are much easier to find. On the surface, gangs are a direct result of
human beings ' personal wants and peer pressure. To determine how to effectively end gang violence
we must find the way that these morals are given to the individual. Unfortunately, these can only be
hypothesized. However, by looking at the way humans are influenced in society, I believe there is
good evidence to point the blame at several ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The new anti social structure of cities also effects the ease in which a boy/girl can join a gang. " The
formation of gangs in cities, and most recently in suburbs, is facilitated by the same lack of
community among parents. The parents do not know what their children are doing for two reasons:
First, much of the parents ' lives is outside the local community, while the children 's lives are lived
almost totally within it. Second, in a fully developed community, the network of relations gives
every parent, in a sense, a community of sentries who can keep him informed of his child 's
activities. In modern living–places (city or suburban), where such a network is attenuated, he no
longer has such sentries."2, (Merton Nisbet, 1971). In male gangs problems occur as each is the
members tries to be the most manly. This often leads to all members participating in "one–up–
manship". Quite often this will then lead to each member trying to commit a bigger and more
violent crime or simply more crimes than the others. With all members participating in this sort of
activity it makes for a never ending unorganized violence spree (A sort of Clockwork Orange
mentality). In gangs with more intellegent members these feelings end up making each member
want to be the star when the groups commit a crime. This makes the gang much more organized and

There are a total of 1,150,000 gang members in the United States and 40% of them are under the age

Causes Of Gang Violence
Are we fixing gang violence the correct way? We should use all acts to stop gang violence and use
all the proper ways to build and get great results. Before solving the problem, we should first try to
understand the problem. A person's tough experiences whether in their childhood or from just going
through times creates them to be violent. An example of this would be such experiences within a
certain gang of people and un–happiness with social economic status within the community. The
cause of gang violence is determined by difficult experiences, the one factor we need to be

The background of violent gangs is very important. There are about 33,000 dangerous street gangs,

illegal activities that gangs do. There are many gang members who commit crimes while after being

she ended up doing what she was supposed to, but she also had no contribution when we made the
essay, works cited, and did not finish up her part of the project until 11:30PM. Another group
member was Nolan Bargy, he was in charge if stating the multiple perspectives. I believe Noland
deserves a D or C. I know that grade is low, but he also had no contribution in the essay, works

he could state and that ended up being the only cite he used. He also ignored the group chat and my
individual messages when trying to contact him and put the visual aid in the presentation ten
minutes before first hour ended. The last group member was Drew Wicklund, which had to state
there were no simple solutions and then conclude with the conclusion. I believe he deserves an A
because he researched multiple sites, helped with the essay, and helped with the works cited. He was
a very independent group member and I could trust him getting his slides together. My group

Causes Of Gang And Gang Violence
Gang and gang violence has always been an ongoing problem within the country. Street gangs have
evolved into some of the most notorious group associated with murders and killings that law
enforcement agencies have encountered. Gang violence has become one of the most serious crime
problem happening in the country that involves physical assaults, drive–by shootings, homicides,
robberies, prostitutions, and home–invasion along with a long list of criminal activities. It had
occurred and multiplied so fast in which it reach an all–time high epidemic of young gang people

If the family associates love and respect for each other and themselves and engages in such act then
it may deter them from trying to find it elsewhere. Juveniles engages in gang related activities
because they lack the love and respect or living in abusive homes in which leads to troubled
childhood delinquency. It encourages them to engage in gang to fulfill their emotional needs while
at the same time vulnerable to the temptation of making money, the freedom and respect that comes
with it. There are several positive and successful programs that are put in place in which involves
the help and deterrence of youth from engaging into gangs. Such task of helping out the youth and
future generations takes time and commitment. Possible solutions of getting involved in helping the
youth that are in the gangs to get them off the streets are implementing the same gang model that
they already know in which involves the commitment of one to another as members of a close–
knitted family but without the drugs and violence. With the ideas and belief that they have already
known would be easier to implement and develop programs that they are familiar to. Such programs
should instill the same love, respect, and belonging as one would receive when joined a gang;
therefore, it gives them another option of committing themselves in a positive way as a model
citizen. It gives them

Violence is a big issue today. Not only is it an issue, but it is global. Many people end up getting
hurt because some people are violent. They are also dying because of violence. It is not that they are
violent it is just that sometimes they get mad and do stupid things. For example, gangs, fights,
shootings, and terrorism. Everyone is affected by this around the world. Everyone is scared about
what happens around the world. The community should be helping each other out instead of hurting
ourselves. People need to act now. People need to get together to address the problem. Get

should the communities get involved, but the government should help out too. Later on they will see

Violence And Gang Violence In The Alvarez Family
When working with the Alvarez family it is important to understand the complex nature of their
situation. The Alvarez family is currently dealing with a difficult situation by way of their son, JC,
losing one of his friends to gang violence. Additionally, JC is involved heavily involved in gang
activity himself and is causing the family anxiety as they are afraid that he will place himself in
danger attempting to obtain "revenge". Rather than working from micro level, it can be helpful to
approach this case from the broader mezzo level. As Mr. Alvarez is highly involved in the
community, it would be beneficial to partner with him when approaching any community related
issues, including the gang activity. The two most critical social issues that are impacting the Alvarez
family are gang involvement and violence, and a lack of community involvement. Gang
involvement is especially troubling to both the community and the immediate family as it is directly
related to violence and crime. "Gang members engage in a higher level of serious and violent crime
than their non–gang–involved peers. Research about gangs is often intertwined with research about
gun violence and drug crime. It is clear that gangs, guns, drugs, and violence are interconnected."
(Gangs and Gang Crime, 2017) A lack of community involvement can lead to further discourse for
not only the Alvarez family but the future of the community itself. "A weak civic culture undermines

Gang Violence In America
Gang violence is a severe problem in the United States. It effects people in all sorts of ways. The
death rate due to gangs is bizarrely high. They kill each other for no reason at all. Even if you're not
involved with gangs physically you might be involved financially. Taxpayers might not even know it
but money is being deducted from their checks without their consent, possibly because a gang
member shot someone without insurance and the bill has to be paid some type of way. Gang
members can also effect tax payers by destroying property. Vandalism, like graffiti is a typical thing
that gang members do to show what gang they're in. No one ever thought about how that graffiti
gets cleaned though. The "city" pays its workers to clean those walls and get that graffiti off. That
money is really coming from the checks of the people in that city or town.
Chicago is one of the deadliest cities in America, due to its gangs. Recently there have been a lot of
coverage in the news about gangs especially in Chicago. Gang violence was at an all–time high.
Many innocent people were killed by stray bullets during shoot outs. Many people in Chicago don't
have insurance and they're the same ones shooting and getting shot. Some survive but they still need
treatment. Since they don't have insurance and the doctors still need to be paid, the city will take it
out taxpayers' checks to make sure all those services are paid for. Even though you might not know
any of these people, you're still

especially with Asian–American fraternities and sororities. Originated from Chinese men in 1916
attending Cornell University, there are now more than 65 Asian–American fraternities and sororities
throughout the country today. They were created because Asians found themselves excluded from
the other white fraternities in many universities. Unknown to many because it's members keep the

Although gang violence has tendencies to be familiar for its participants, there are more negative
factors that should prevent someone from joining its ranks. A famous former baseball player once
said in an interview: "A team is where a boy can prove his courage on his own. A gang is where a
coward goes to hide." (Mantle). Members of gang violence usually are hiding from who they truly
are in the inside. They find that the gang is the best path out of their personal situation which
definitely is not the right choice. A gang is an organized group of people affiliated with acts of
violence or illegal behavior. Such things like gang violence as a whole have been a great problem
with the social society of American people. Gang members are usually referred to as gangsters and
most take great pride in that name. In the effort of joining gangs it is difficult to see the practical or
beneficial aspects in the long run. On the eastern side of the United States, gangs first started in the
post World War II era. It was a time in which African Americans, Puerto Ricans, and Euro–
Americans were at battle over territory in the changing neighborhoods after urban renewal. By 2008,
according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, there were an estimation of 640 different street
gangs along with more than 1700 active gang members in the New England area. A drastic increase
in gangs in the eastern part of the Unites States in the late 1990s is of because of a route

Papers On Gang Violence
Gang Violence Youth violence is a problem among young teens because it causes a division, which
unfortunately result into gangs. Moreover in the past, gang violence results into youth crimes such
as robbery, and drug sales. In this new generation, the youth resort in selling marijuana and heroin,
even more than crack cocaine now, this means where the drugs are is where the gangs are, also the
weapons to protect to their territory. While writing his article Michael Blanding quotes a young man
of 16 years of old named Sharodeny Finch, who said, "People get tired of wearing the same damn
jeans". This young man was referring to the fact that he gets tired of the gangs, and tries to do the
right thing by finding an actual job. But when he got turned down his response was, " You try to do
the right thing, find a job to earn money, and you can't. You got a block right here, you know what
I'm saying?" Basically Finch is explaining that, sometimes young people will try to escape the gang
life, but when they try and do not get what they intended for, they go back to the gangs. This overall
shows in order for the youth not to resort back to the gangs, they have to be dealt with in the proper
format. Gang violence does not have broaders, however in the urban areas of Boston it tends to
receive the most attention. This problem causes emotional stress, group tensions in communities,
and many other troubles. This issue tends to thrive in communities that already have drug
addictions, and low property rates. Moreover, gang violence influences these other issues to worsen
over time. Therefore, youth violence should be a priority to resolve for it causes and affects many
other issues in Boston. Gang violence affects many people, but it targets certain ethnic groups. The
majority of gangs nationwide have a percentage of 47% Hispanics and 31% African Americans.
Moreover since 2009 the majority of gangs consist of males, and 37% of them are under the age of
18. Also it has been estimated that in Boston 66% of youth homicides can be connected with gang
violence. Since the 1980s through 1990s youth violence increased tremendously. Many homicides
were happening throughout this time, which connects back with the gang

Causes Of Gang Violence
As someone living in a community where gang violence is a problem, I am grateful that you are able
to take part in a movement to decrease the amount of gang violence today. According to
NeighborhoodScout.com, gang–related crimes occur an average of seven times a week in my small
community of Delhi. The number may sound small but considering the size of my community where
everyone knows each other this gang violence is affecting us a lot so it needs to stop. These numbers
show that gang–related violence is an everyday problem in Merced communities every year. As this
is a highly complicated issue where there is no simple solution, it is very important to focus on just a
couple of the many factors that help fix the problem.
According to the Merced Sun Star, the main individuals that join gangs are often people who are at a
social disadvantage or have inequality compared to others. These people are more likely to have
lower income and live in neighbourhoods that are surrounded by people who live in these
conditions. In order to put up with these cases, it is important to start at the root of the cause in order
to make changes happen for a better future. Since one of the main similarities among the gang–
related issues revolves lower income families, we should create programs that can help rebuild their
neighbourhoods. For example holding fundraisers and raising money to create a park or play place
near the neighborhood that way when these individuals are young thye will have

GANG VIOLENCE
Introduction
According to the Criminal Justice of Canada, gangs are defined as "an organized group who plan
and carry out crime for profit, often using violence" (CJC, 2017). Gangs promote their lifestyle to
our youth by glorying their materialistic objects such as expensive cars, jewelry and brand named
clothes. Youth fall for the false illusion and make themselves vulnerable to the hazards of gang
violence. Many troubled youths crave for a sense of belonging and gangs recruit them into their
own. Gangs vary from committing petty crimes to complicated organized crime. Everyone including
communities and children suffer from the losses of the violence. Conversely, there are some
approaches law enforcement make to reduce gang violence.
Why do Youth join gangs? There are many factors that contribute to youth joining gangs. Children
who are raised in a single–parent household, multiple family/foster home transitions, or come from
low income homes have a higher risk of participating in gang activities (Howell, 2010). Growing up
with a disadvantage these children struggle in school due to poor concentration, attention deficit and
low intelligence (O'Brien, Daffern, Chu & Thomas, 2013). Alongside with education, they also have
behavioral issues of violence and aggression which makes it difficult to get along with fellow peers
(O'Brien, Daffern, Chu & Thomas, 2013). This rejection tends to lead to low self–esteem, anger,
self–harm, drugs and vulnerability. Hence

No parent wants to see their child becomes gang that uses weapon, hurts someone, or goes to prison.
Gang violence affects children, their families, and their community. In 1980s, African American
gangs in Los Angeles became drug dealers, specifically cocaine, as a means of earnings. High rates
of unemployment in African American community in Los Angeles forced young people to turn on
drugs, and large number of youth became drug dealers to gain economic security. Main problem was
drug availability and its huge profit to be made in the drug dealing. Political groups such as The
Black Panther Party emerged to deal with racism and police brutality in Los Angeles because of
white officers involved abusing African American citizens. Many also blame racism, injustice, and
the War on Drugs was the causes for long imprisonments for non–violent drug offenders. A massive
imprisonment policy of African Americans, led to huge racial inequality in the criminal justice
system by excluding jobs, education, housing, and voting after their released. Injustice, racism,
unemployment, drugs, gangs and gang crime were primary problems that African American
community in Los Angeles experienced in 1980s.
Young African Americans were encountered with many difficulties from lack of jobs to racial
discrimination. The restrictions that were made by the majority and police forced Black teenagers to
establish their own identity through the formation of clubs. The clubs gave African American youth

Re: Increased Incidents of Gang Violence within Broward County, Florida
The purpose of this paper is to review and verify a recent study by Scott H. Decker of the University
of Missouri – St. Louis, entitled Collective and Normative Features in Gang Violence (Decker &
VanWinkle, 1996). The study will attempt to address why our local increase in gang violence has
reached monumental heights causing an increase in gang members appearing your court. The overall
theme of the study depicts overall "mechanisms and processes that result in the spread and
escalation of gang violence" (Pope, Lovell & Brandl, 2001, p. 160). This was achieved by the author
by directing his studies on 'contagion as an aspect of collective behavior that produces expressive
gang violence" researchers of this study did this by focusing on "contagion as an aspect of collective
behavior that produces expressive gang violence (Pope, Lovell & Brandl, 2001, p. 161). 'Contagion'
is defined as 'subsequent acts of violence caused by an initial act; such acts typically take the form
of retaliation" (Pope, Lovell & Brandl, 2001, p. 163). These gang related acts can take the form of
games, fights, meeting and sometimes homicide. It can also be said that all gang behavior is
committed as a group. It then follows that this behavior can safely be categorized as 'collective' or
grouped behavior. Often times a designated
leader makes the official decision to act (retaliate, perform robbery, commit rape etc)

In my community the problem of gang violence has become more of an issue. There are many ways
to prevent this from happening. First, you have to be educated and aware of your children's actions.
Second, you have to improve your community's supervision. Last, you have to be able to properly
deal with young adults who are in a gang and handle it properly. Those are some ways you can
prevent gang violence.
Being educated and aware of your children's action is key to a safe environment. First by knowing
the signs that your child is in a gang will help prevent it. Second, you have to realize gang activity

Gang Violence
Nowadays gangs are big issues in America. People who are in gang feel like they belong some
where and people care about them. There are various reasons people join gangs, and almost all age
group between ages 12–40 are involved in gangs. One of the big reasons people join gangs is
because of their needs, protection, and also they want attention from people around them. Gang's
should be taken seriously because today's gangs are more violent and brutal then they were in 60's.

and made more then $100 dollars a week. Because of money Luis and his friends joined a gang in
which they made good money illegally and became more violent.
If you live in a neighborhood where there are lots of gangs, then you need to be in a gang or move to
a better neighborhood. If you have gangs in your neighborhood you will need protection from
someone like police or join another gang. If you don't have protection you will get beaten down. For
example, when Luis and his brother Rano went to a store to get some grocery, few gang members
beat Rano up and tried to rob him. So if Luis joins a gang he get protection from his member
friends. Also in a tough neighborhood like Luis's its not hard to join a gang because there are gangs
all over the area and somehow you will end up in a gang just like Luis and his friends. In addition,
violence has increased a lot more then before. Before gangs used to fight with their fist and knives,
but today almost every gang member has a gun. Also there are fights almost every day between
gangs whether you are in school, work, or on the street.
As well, there are many people who lack attention. Attention is a big role in life. For example, to get
more attention from parents, friends, and peers an adolescent joins a gang to get respected. Gangs do
different things to get people's attention. For example, teens who are in gangs try to do crazy things

GANG VIOLENCE In society today, there is a major problem We live in a society where gangs are
taking over our neighborhoods in numbers. It is the responsibility of the individuals to part take in
getting their neighborhoods back under control. Gangs are becoming a growing problem in
American society. More young people are turning to gangs to solve problems in their lives or for
acceptance. When youths join gangs, they drop all their social activities with school, family, and
friends. However, individuals ruin their lives, and the chances of them having a decent education,
and a successful life by getting involved in gang activity. When individuals decided to get involve in
those type of activities many of them do it for specific reasons. For example, people join gang for
acceptance, protection, and some are forced into it, because of their family are gang affiliated.
Gangs partake endlessly in finding different method for individuals to more effectively get the
things they want, particularly power. Therefore, people that are easily influenced tends to gravitate
toward gang activities for recognition in the community. According to Goldman, Giles, & Hogg

everyone is at risk of being a victim of gang violence" (p. 825). Gang violence goes further than

Teenage homicides have increased by one hundred and fifty percent, largely due to gang violence.
Gang violence is increasing at a rapid pace in the United States. In today's larger cities, gang
violence is a reality that people have to deal with every day. As gang related crimes increase,
officials are trying to
find out why people join and remain loyal to gangs. Authorities have been trying to find a way to
reduce gang related crime and violence. Federal authorities and local law enforcement also have
combined resources to create task forces and other bodies to investigate and prosecute gang
members.
Although authorities are looking to try and find a way to prevent gang violence it does not seem to
be working. More gangs are being started whether in prison or out on the street. More kids are
starting to join gangs as a way to have fun. Reasons kids may be in gangs range from it being that
they are being forced, pressured into it, are joining to have fun, or they were born into the gang.

Thousands of U.S. citizens have visited Honduras every year to study, for business, and even

Department of State has issued a Travel Warning for Honduras since late 2012 (Miller, 2016).
Honduras has one of the highest murder rates in the world. While not all the murder rates can be

Gang violence that has been displayed through media portrays stereotypes that exist in real life to

Gang Violence And Crime
As developing nations become more independent, it is perceived crime rate would be decreasing as
well. However, gang–related violence has increased as developing countries improve economically
and become an established nation. A plethora of evidence exemplifies that the law enforcement
system corruption has increased to gain influence and power. Thus, the paradigm of gang violence
and crime has become prevalent over the decade of economic growth. To minimize the threat of
organized gang crime among developing nations, governmental agencies must increase law
enforcement and reduce internal corruption.
Weak law enforcement is admittedly a cause of the growth of gang crime amongst developing
crime. Police often participate in barbaric acts such as "fired tear gas at and arrested protesters"
(Torres 1). In addition, Venezuela "[police are] dismissed from a job that pays less than $1.75" (
Kohut). Thus, this propels these law enforcement members to become dominated by gangs because
they have no governmental protection. Police are prone to gang dominance and often carry inside
jobs for them, resulting in an increase in crime. According to report established by the United States
Department of State, "...the government reported 8,813 killings committed by police, which it
classified as 'resistance to authority'. Of those cases, 97 percent were dismissed or remained pending
with no action taken by the Public Ministry" (Kerry). As a result, it is a compliment to the weak

In western Australia, it is very popular to have graffiti that has is drawn illegally, but it grows the public's sensitivity. Meaning that it is a threat to the civic order and the safety of the community. Not only that but it cost a lot of money to remove illegal graffiti that has is drawn and graffiti takes a lot of time to remove from walls meaning you will need to buy expensive equipment. In 2010 Seattle's metro transit spent $734, 000 just to remove graffiti of buses, tunnels, parks, rides, and bus shelters. If it only cost $734,00 in Seattle imagine the world. • 3. Essay On Gang Violence Many of us are against gang violence because we all know that it's not the solution to anything. It just increases the violences in the U.S. which is not necessary. The gang–related activity and violence has increased along the U.S southwest border region, as US–based gangs 2 Thesis Context Paper act as enforcers for Mexican drug cartels. A gang is a type of small war that occurs when two gangs end up in a feud over territory. Based on these reasons we have every right to stop the gang violence before it's too late. Nowadays many teenagers can relate to it, it can affect some of us in many ways in our society. In the article "History Of Street Gangs In The United States" By James C. Howell (Howell, james. National Gang Center Bulletin , 2 May 2010) States "The history of street gangs in the United States begins with their emergence on the East Coast around 1783, as the American Revolution ended (Sante, 1991). But there is considerable justification for questioning the seriousness of these early gangs. The best available evidence suggests that the more serious street gangs likely did not emerge until the early part of the nineteenth century (Sante, 1991)." Based on this quote James article offers us some honest advise on why it's important, dangers and respectful to know the trust history about gangs. The article is very ... • 5. Teens And Gang Violence About one third of every community experiences some sort of gang violence (Tucker). Although, it may not directly affect one specific community. It is making a great impact on the new generation. Gang violence among teens has become more prevalent in today's society. For example, during the summer of 2017 in Lancaster South Carolina, five teenagers were murdered by other teens in gang affiliated behaviors. Thus, resulting in imprisonment. The question is how we punish these teens. Should they receive the death penalty for committing an act of murder? Or should they spend the rest of their lives in prison with a chance of being released back into society. What is the value of their lives? Understand they are in the prime of their lives. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Philosopher Michel Foucault's work Discipline and Punish speaks about the changes punishment and discipline have taken. Punishment has always been used to discourage criminals from unlawful acts. In the beginning, punishment was aimed at the body through things like corporal punishment. Now with prison systems in place, the aim is at what Foucault calls the "soul". Foucault questions if these new methods of punishment and discipline are indeed affective. Commonly the criminals who receive death penalties have committed an act of terrorism, hate crimes, or murder. There are currently thirty–one states in which the death penalty is legalized, including South Carolina. In the state of South Carolina, by law, a person receives the death penalty when murder is committed with one of twelve aggravating circumstances. "A person who is convicted of or pleads guilty to murder must be punished by death, or by a mandatory minimum term of imprisonment for thirty years to life. If the State seeks the death penalty and a statutory aggravating circumstance is found beyond a reasonable doubt pursuant to subsections (B) and (C), and a recommendation of death is not made, the trial judge must impose a sentence of life imprisonment" ("Code of Laws"). The support for and against the death penalty is equally weighted. Those who are for the death penalty say that it creates both specific and general deterrence. • 7. Youth Gang Violence Youth gang violence has turned into an unmistakable issue in the public eye reaching across national boundaries as well as socio–economic, cultural, racial, and class distinctions. Not only is the problem widely dispersed geographically, but its incidence is also extensive, making it a common, acknowledged, and a mainstream behavior for many teens. Gang activity is extremely common in lower income neighborhoods and ethnic ghettos where underprivileged children are regularly recruited. Youth gang violence has always been an issue in the United States since the 1950's but many crime analysts tended to overlook the problem of youth gang violence in major cities due to historical events such as the Korean War, U.S. Supreme Court ruled segregation was illegal in the Brown v. Board of Education decision, and the Civil Rights Movement. The first nationwide study undertaken of the nature and extent of gang violence was reported by Walter B. Miller. Miller whose study concentrated primarily on the increase of gang violence and four major motives such as respect, guarding local communities, control, and gain the of monetary goods. According to a study shown in Seattle, upheld by the Office of Juvenile Justice Delinquency Prevention, gang members (15 percent of the sample) self–revealed conferring 58 percent of general delinquent acts in the entire sample, 51 percent of minor assaults, 54 percent of lawful offense burglaries, 53 percent of minor robberies, 62 percent of ... • 9. Gang Violence Essay Gang Violence Did you know that gang violence affects our world today? In this century we're experiencing more gang related crimes ever than before. Current research shows that there is an estimate of 250,000 gang members in America (Almonte and Desmond 4). The more gangs the more killings. Adolescents are getting more involved in gangs, because of this dropout rates are increasing. The more dropouts the more drug dealers. Once they begin to sell drugs they end up in jail. This is where we come in as taxpayers. Gang violence affects the public with the crimes they commit. Murders, robbery, and vandalism are some of the main crimes that are committed. These things can be prevented if we pay more attention to our teens. Rehab centers and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is when you have to duck and hide or break out running. The public is put at high risk because of this, because you have innocent bystanders who can be killed or injured badly. Children to the elderly have to be aware of their surroundings. Knives are also a weapon that gang members mainly use but knives and guns aren't the only weapons. . Current research shows that gun violence costs the economy at least $229 billion every year. This is including $8.6 billion in direct expenses for medical and emergency care, the direct costs of hospital use for gun assault injuries by itself was estimated to $8.4 million on 2010. Taxpayers paid 65% of these costs (Follman and Lurie par.1). Vandalism or graffiti is another crime that affects the public. Taxpayers have to deal with this because we have to pay for the graffiti to get off of buildings, cars, or homes. Graffiti encourages more crimes to happen because if one gang doesn't like what another gang puts out there, then it becomes a gang fight. Graffiti promotes gangs, this shows that this is that particular gangs turf. Once you notice the graffiti you automatically know that a gang has taken over this area. Members wear graffiti tags to announce what gang they're in (Almonte and Desmond 13). Gangs may identify themselves in many different ways, graffiti is just one of the most common ones. • 11. The Problem Of Gang Violence Gang violence has grown to be a great problem in El Salvador in the last 30 years. Gangs have grown into large, complex organized crime units; the two largest gangs, MS13 (also known as Mara Salvatrucha 13) and Barrio18 (also known as Calle18), now encompass large parts of Central America. Both gangs rely heavily on local drug–peddling, which drives most of the general gang violence. The desire for control over certain areas had forged a fierce rivalry, in which civilians are often endangered when caught in the crossfire. In 2014, El Salvador alone counted 900 homicides a month, in which at least 30 of those murders were ruled femicides. Both MS13 and Barrio18 are active in the human–trafficking trade; the kidnapping of women and girls who are eventually sold into sex slavery is extremely common, which perpetuates a toxic cycle of exploitation of women by men by enforcing toxic masculinity based in the oppression of women. El Salvador is not only facing a domestic women 's rights emergency, but a internal safety crisis of epic proportions. State authority officials are often involved in extortion rings, which has only heightened the prevalence of public transport extortion. The pervasiveness of extortion has become an extensive problem; local economies cannot prosper while paying costly gang–taxes, which despite offering the residents a promise of security and protection, only contribute to the poverty by hindering any surplus which typically characterizes the beginnings of ... • 13. Gang Violence Essay In society most people feel safe and do not have a sense of urgency that something appalling will transpire around them. Although these people may hear about the surplus of current events going on around the world today that may be abysmal they tend to not care because they perceive that it will not arise around their home. Gang violence in youths is a prominent problem around numerous portions of the world today. Youths are forced to go along with the engagements taken place in the gang which can be cataclysmic to society and themselves. The life of a youth and their family can be altered by just one simple decision to join a gang, put many people in danger of being hurt, however there are still many workable solutions to put these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is noticeable because it not only affects the appearance of the youth but it also affects their decisions. Due to the colossal amounts of drugs consumed by these teens they are habitually subconscious while making decisions which leave them susceptible to constructing bad decisions. . It is tough for a family of a youth in a gang but it is even tougher for the youth themselves to acclimate to. Therefore as portrayed, it can be really overwhelming for both a youth and their family when their child decides to join a gang. Gangs put society in an unsafe state filled with destruction. Lee states that "A twenty one year old man was stabbed to death by several gang members" (2). This is just a portion of the massive deterioration caused by a gang. Gangs tend to do things that are even more severe, especially youth gangs. Hagdorn justifies this by stating "youth gangs destroy society both mentally and physically". (8) They destroy society physically by hurting people and killing innocent people. The mental obliteration takes a more sophisticated method. They use stereotypical comments that portray prejudice conceptions which pertain to mainly ethnic groups and different racial groups. Cohan mentions that "the number of street gang killings has risen up more than 50 % between 2005 to 2008" (1). This means many innocent people are losing their lives while doing their everyday routine such as walking on the streets. If walking on the streets puts ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Street gangs commit a lot more senseless crimes without reason. A murder can take place for something as simple as stepping on ones shoe or looking at someone a certain way. All taken as signs of disrespect in the gang world; even the insane acts of what's known as "initiation week" where many random murders take place. • 17. Gangs And Gang Violence In The UK It was once the case, that organised criminals used firearms specifically and temporarily to address a given incident or conflict. This was evident in the days of the Kray brothers, when on March 8th, 1966 three men were shot and wounded and one man killed (Greco 2015). However, in reality we are now far from those days as guns are now routinely carried. Youth fights, which might once have been settled with fists are now settled with knives and handguns. Over the years the succession of youth killings in the UK has astonished, horrified and saddened the nation. The full impact of gang crime in London, was revealed in 2014 with Met figures showing, 6,600 violent offences were committed by gang members in just three years (Bentham 2014). ... This can be verified in the fact that, communication is a lot simpler with the development of technology and we share each other's cultures and life experiences through travel and the importation and exportation of goods. As a result we are living in a huge global economy, where if something happens in one part of the world it can have a rippling effects worldwide. This process is referred to as globalisation. This was validated by Middens (1990:64) who argued that "globalisation can be described as the intensification of worldwide social relations which link distant localities in such a way that local happenings are shaped by events occurring many miles away" (Smith, M. K. and Doyle M. 2002). This proclamation, can be evidenced by occurrences of the early 1970's, which saw a decline in the manufacturing industry which affected major inner cities, both in the UK and in the USA. During this period cities such as Chicago, Philadelphia and New York lost more than fifty percent of their manufacturing industry. It may also be accepted that the impact of this decline had a detrimental effect on subordinate communities, consequently permitting the social divisions and income inequality between the rich and the poor during the latter part of the twentieth century to become steadily wider. In addition, these occurrencese resulted in greater social problems in the inner cities, an increase in poverty and petty crime (Wilson, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. Gang Violence Essay familial, cultural and community ties, gangs are often formulated upon strong common interests. In fact, many gangs have a unity strong enough to expand beyond any physical frontier, representing an issue not just for cities like Los Angeles but also for states like California. For the purpose of my research, I will narrow in on the city of Los Angeles which houses more than 400 gangs and about 39,000 gang members (Villaraigosa 2017). That being said, the City of Los Angeles lies at the center of gang violence and health discourses simultaneously. • 25. Gangs And Violence Essay Gangs are not a new phenomenon, but they are still a problem that has to be addressed. Gangs are involved in a number of criminal activities. In the last few years or so many urban cities have experienced an epidemic of youth violence that is rapidly spreading from the inner cities to the suburbs. Gangs are no longer the problem of those who live in the crime–ridden neighborhoods where the gangs thrive; they are now everyone's problem. Along with the violence that comes from gangs, there are also other economic costs of gangs, such as medical costs and incarceration. There are many factors for why young people get involved with gangs. Communities and law enforcement have come up with a number of programs and ideas dedicated to preventing gang development and recruitment. Gangs often form along ethnic and racial lines, although more recently youths are joining for economic purposes. According to Jill Leovy gangs are created as a replacement for law enforcement because minority groups feel that law enforcement doesn't care about them. She states that, "Black America has not benefited from a state monopoly on violence" (Leovy, pg8). Usually, the state is the only institution that's allowed to use force to ensure the law is held in place. She explains that because of this failure to stand up for black people, these black communities came up with their own, alternative systems of justice to replace the governmental law. Why do kids feel that being in a gang is both an acceptable and prestigious way to live? The long range answer to these questions can only be speculated upon, but in the short term the answers are much easier to find. On the surface, gangs are a direct result of human beings ' personal wants and peer pressure. Second, in a fully developed community, the network of relations gives every parent, in a sense, a community of sentries who can keep him informed of his child 's activities. • 47. Gang Violence In America Gang violence is a severe problem in the United States. It effects people in all sorts of ways. The death rate due to gangs is bizarrely high. They kill each other for no reason at all. Even if you're not involved with gangs physically you might be involved financially. Taxpayers might not even know it but money is being deducted from their checks without their consent, possibly because a gang member shot someone without insurance and the bill has to be paid some type of way. Gang members can also effect tax payers by destroying property. Vandalism, like graffiti is a typical thing that gang members do to show what gang they're in. No one ever thought about how that graffiti gets cleaned though. The "city" pays its workers to clean those walls and get that graffiti off. That money is really coming from the checks of the people in that city or town. Chicago is one of the deadliest cities in America, due to its gangs. Recently there have been a lot of coverage in the news about gangs especially in Chicago. Gang violence was at an all–time high. Many innocent people were killed by stray bullets during shoot outs. Many people in Chicago don't have insurance and they're the same ones shooting and getting shot. Some survive but they still need treatment. Moreover in the past, gang violence results into youth crimes such as robbery, and drug sales. In this new generation, the youth resort in selling marijuana and heroin, even more than crack cocaine now, this means where the drugs are is where the gangs are, also the weapons to protect to their territory. While writing his article Michael Blanding quotes a young man of 16 years of old named Sharodeny Finch, who said, "People get tired of wearing the same damn jeans". This young man was referring to the fact that he gets tired of the gangs, and tries to do the right thing by finding an actual job. But when he got turned down his response was, " You try to do the right thing, find a job to earn money, and you can't. You got a block right here, you know what I'm saying?" Basically Finch is explaining that, sometimes young people will try to escape the gang life, but when they try and do not get what they intended for, they go back to the gangs. This overall shows in order for the youth not to resort back to the gangs, they have to be dealt with in the proper format. Gang violence does not have broaders, however in the urban areas of Boston it tends to receive the most attention. This problem causes emotional stress, group tensions in communities, and many other troubles. This issue tends to thrive in communities that already have drug addictions, and low property rates. Moreover, gang violence influences these other issues to worsen over time. Gang Violence Essay GANG VIOLENCE Introduction According to the Criminal Justice of Canada, gangs are defined as "an organized group who plan and carry out crime for profit, often using violence" (CJC, 2017). Gangs promote their lifestyle to our youth by glorying their materialistic objects such as expensive cars, jewelry and brand named clothes. Children who are raised in a single–parent household, multiple family/foster home transitions, or come from low income homes have a higher risk of participating in gang activities (Howell, 2010). Growing up with a disadvantage these children struggle in school due to poor concentration, attention deficit and low intelligence (O'Brien, Daffern, Chu & Thomas, 2013). In 1980s, African American gangs in Los Angeles became drug dealers, specifically cocaine, as a means of earnings. High rates of unemployment in African American community in Los Angeles forced young people to turn on drugs, and large number of youth became drug dealers to gain economic security. Main problem was drug availability and its huge profit to be made in the drug dealing. Political groups such as The Black Panther Party emerged to deal with racism and police brutality in Los Angeles because of white officers involved abusing African American citizens. • 63. Gang Violence Essay Re: Increased Incidents of Gang Violence within Broward County, Florida The purpose of this paper is to review and verify a recent study by Scott H. Decker of the University of Missouri – St. Louis, entitled Collective and Normative Features in Gang Violence (Decker & VanWinkle, 1996). The study will attempt to address why our local increase in gang violence has reached monumental heights causing an increase in gang members appearing your court. The overall theme of the study depicts overall "mechanisms and processes that result in the spread and escalation of gang violence" (Pope, Lovell & Brandl, 2001, p. 160). This was achieved by the author by directing his studies on 'contagion as an aspect of collective behavior that produces expressive gang violence" researchers of this study did this by focusing on "contagion as an aspect of collective behavior that produces expressive gang violence (Pope, Lovell & Brandl, 2001, p. 161). 'Contagion' is defined as 'subsequent acts of violence caused by an initial act; such acts typically take the form of retaliation" (Pope, Lovell & Brandl, 2001, p. 163). These gang related acts can take the form of games, fights, meeting and sometimes homicide. It can also be said that all gang behavior is committed as a group. It then follows that this behavior can safely be categorized as 'collective' or grouped behavior. Often times a designated leader makes the official decision to act (retaliate, perform robbery, commit rape etc) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 77. Gang Violence And Crime As developing nations become more independent, it is perceived crime rate would be decreasing as well. However, gang–related violence has increased as developing countries improve economically and become an established nation. A plethora of evidence exemplifies that the law enforcement system corruption has increased to gain influence and power. Thus, the paradigm of gang violence and crime has become prevalent over the decade of economic growth. To minimize the threat of organized gang crime among developing nations, governmental agencies must increase law enforcement and reduce internal corruption. Weak law enforcement is admittedly a cause of the growth of gang crime amongst developing crime. Police often participate in barbaric acts such as "fired tear gas at and arrested protesters" (Torres 1). In addition, Venezuela "[police are] dismissed from a job that pays less than $1.75" ( Kohut). Thus, this propels these law enforcement members to become dominated by gangs because they have no governmental protection. Police are prone to gang dominance and often carry inside jobs for them, resulting in an increase in crime. According to report established by the United States Department of State, "...the government reported 8,813 killings committed by police, which it classified as 'resistance to authority'. Of those cases, 97 percent were dismissed or remained pending with no action taken by the Public Ministry" (Kerry). As a result, it is a compliment to the weak ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
