Motivation:-
Definition and Meaning
Motivation is the word derived from the word ‘motive
’which means needs ,desires ,wants or drives with in the
individual.
It is the reason for people's action, willingness and goals.
It is the process of stimulating people to action to
accomplish the goals
Motivation can be termed as driver of human behavior that
stimulate desire and energy in people to attain there goals.
Types of motivation
 Generally there are two types of motivation:-
 Intrinsic motivation
 Extrinsic motivation
1. Intrinsic motivation means that an individual is motivated from
within. It is internal in nature For example:- Curiosity, power
,social status, mastery, love etc.
1. Extrinsic motivation means that an individual is motivated from
outside. In other words our desire to perform work are controlled
by outside source. It is external in nature. For example:- Rewards,
money, competition, fear of punishment etc.
Why one needs to be
motivated
 As mentioned earlier motivation is desire to
do something and this desire is what keeps
us working or moving forward in any given
task.
 The reason we need motivation is because it
keep us moving forward, even when we face
challenges, it helps us with problem solving
and creativity. To get most out of an individual
he needs to be motivated
How can one be motivated
 Being able to motivate people is key to your success at work, at
home, and in the future because no one can achieve anything
alone. We all need help of others. Here are some ways to
motivate others:-
 Listen carefully to the people what actually they want to do. Find
out what the person’s goals and dreams are.
 Ask open ended questions from them.
 Encourage them to do well and treat them kindly.
 Allow other people to dream and try to connect that dream to
future reality.
 Ask them how you can help, not because they need your help
but its always good to offer.
Who is motivated
 Motivated people are driven to go above and beyond, they are trusted by
others, focused and have great confidence in there abilities.
1. Motivated people don’t waste there time in comparing and judging and
gossiping others.
2. They are humble and apologize when they make mistake and accepts the
feedback from others. They don’t argue unnecessesarly.
3. They look at the upside of the goal
4. They are authentic.
5. They push themselves beyond there comfort zone.
6. They continue to learn.
7. They don’t give up.
8. They don’t blame others
9. They take time for temself.
10. They don’t set limits.
11. They seek advice when needed.
12. They set there goals and plan for them
Motivating factors and forces
 There are numbers of factors that a human being
is surrounded with that motivates him. They act as
a force or influence that causes him to do
something. Motivation factors include:-
1. Achievement
2. Advancement
3. Autonomy
4. Personal growth
5. Recognition
6. Responsibility and
7. Work itself
Components of motivation
 Major components of motivation are:-
1. Activation ; It involves the decision to do a
action
2. Persistence; Persistence is where we
continue to strive for a goal even there are
obstacles in our way to each the goal.
3. Intensity; Intensity is where you put in the
concentration and vigor to achieve your
goal.
Importance of motivation
 There are several reasons why motivation is
important, mainly because it allows us to
meet our goals; achievement of goals gives
satisfaction to the individual; satisfaction
gives peace of mind and eventually increase
in performance.
Can motivation be increased
 Yes, motivation can be increased at every
step of life.

Sources of motivation
 Motivation comes from several different sources; some of these
sources are internal while others are external. Internal motives
push a person toward a desired goal. External motives pull the
person towards the goal and incentives they wish to obtained
the end of the task.. Sources can be biological or physical and
learned or stimulated.

2. Incentives and rewards
3. Social belongingness
4. Power
5. Money
6. Recognition
7. Fear

Motivation:- Definition and Meaning Motivation is the word derived from the word ‘motive ’which means needs ,desires ,wants or drives with in the individual. It is the reason for people's action, willingness and goals. It is the process of stimulating people to action to accomplish the goals Motivation can be termed as driver of human behavior that stimulate desire and energy in people to attain there goals.

  • 4. Types of motivation  Generally there are two types of motivation:-  Intrinsic motivation  Extrinsic motivation 1. Intrinsic motivation means that an individual is motivated from within. It is internal in nature For example:- Curiosity, power ,social status, mastery, love etc. 1. Extrinsic motivation means that an individual is motivated from outside. In other words our desire to perform work are controlled by outside source. It is external in nature. For example:- Rewards, money, competition, fear of punishment etc.

Why one needs to be motivated  As mentioned earlier motivation is desire to do something and this desire is what keeps us working or moving forward in any given task.  The reason we need motivation is because it keep us moving forward, even when we face challenges, it helps us with problem solving and creativity. To get most out of an individual he needs to be motivated
  • 7. How can one be motivated  Being able to motivate people is key to your success at work, at home, and in the future because no one can achieve anything alone. We all need help of others. Here are some ways to motivate others:-  Listen carefully to the people what actually they want to do. Find out what the person’s goals and dreams are.  Ask open ended questions from them.  Encourage them to do well and treat them kindly.  Allow other people to dream and try to connect that dream to future reality.  Ask them how you can help, not because they need your help but its always good to offer.
  • 8. Who is motivated  Motivated people are driven to go above and beyond, they are trusted by others, focused and have great confidence in there abilities. 1. Motivated people don’t waste there time in comparing and judging and gossiping others. 2. They are humble and apologize when they make mistake and accepts the feedback from others. They don’t argue unnecessesarly. 3. They look at the upside of the goal 4. They are authentic. 5. They push themselves beyond there comfort zone. 6. They continue to learn. 7. They don’t give up. 8. They don’t blame others 9. They take time for temself. 10. They don’t set limits. 11. They seek advice when needed. 12. They set there goals and plan for them
  • 9. Motivating factors and forces  There are numbers of factors that a human being is surrounded with that motivates him. They act as a force or influence that causes him to do something. Motivation factors include:- 1. Achievement 2. Advancement 3. Autonomy 4. Personal growth 5. Recognition 6. Responsibility and 7. Work itself
  • 10. Components of motivation  Major components of motivation are:- 1. Activation ; It involves the decision to do a action 2. Persistence; Persistence is where we continue to strive for a goal even there are obstacles in our way to each the goal. 3. Intensity; Intensity is where you put in the concentration and vigor to achieve your goal.

  • 12. Importance of motivation  There are several reasons why motivation is important, mainly because it allows us to meet our goals; achievement of goals gives satisfaction to the individual; satisfaction gives peace of mind and eventually increase in performance.

  • 17. Sources of motivation  Motivation comes from several different sources; some of these sources are internal while others are external. Internal motives push a person toward a desired goal. External motives pull the person towards the goal and incentives they wish to obtained the end of the task.. Sources can be biological or physical and learned or stimulated. 1. Growth and achievement 2. Incentives and rewards 3. Social belongingness 4. Power 5. Money 6. Recognition 7. Fear
