Sex offenders can be described as a person who has committed any of a variety of offenses,

After criminals pay their debt to society, many criminals will start a fresh life, those convicted of
felons are limited to job selection, they lose the ability to vote and if they are a sex offender then

Most sex offeneders are male. Aileen Wuronos is one serial killer the residents of Florida have look

When entering the social work program I never gave much thought to who I did not want to work
with, rather my focus was entirely on what population I do want to work with. After long thought, I
decided I do not want to work with sex offenders, I'd rather work with children and perhaps that is
where I get my bias against sex offenders or perhaps it stems from other reasons. Through my
research, I am hoping to discover new information about sex offenders that may change my opinion
and help me to see them in a new light.
When I think of a sex offender what automatically comes to my mind is a creepy middle aged white
man who lives in close vicinity to their victims. Through my research, I have found that in certain
aspects my vision of what a sex offender is right while in other aspects I was wrong. When looking
at gender it has been found that sex offenders are overwhelmingly male, however, offenders can still
be female with an estimated of 14% of offenders in the cases involving boys and 6% of cases
involving girls being female (Statistics). Female sex offenders is a concept that rarely if ever crosses
my mind as I am so used to men being portrayed as sex offenders in the media. As for the age of

The youngest person that can be place on the National Sex Offender Registry is age 6. Yes, a
kindergarten and be found to be a sexual predator as society puts it. Individuals on the registry are
all treated equal by the public no matter the details of their actual crime. Even though the sex
offender registry is a positive tool in the protection of society, the registry needs to be evaluated

They brought "R" in for questioning and he was released. Later arrested again for statutory rape and
the mother (of the girl) came to defend him saying she knew and approved. He received a year in
jail and so did the mother. Ten years later was required to start registering and was given life. He
should not have been given a life sentence. He is a tier one offender and should only be required to
register for 15 years. Tier three individuals the most violent are required to register for life. He is
now 42 years old and is functioning however being on the registry has caused extreme difficulty in
getting jobs and being able to function without society opinions being forced upon him. I just think
that this story is one of many who are non– violent and are lifelong registrants. All crimes that a
person is on the registry for are wrong; I just think that the non–violent ones need to be reviewed

In contrast the deontology approach I think that a lot of people fall into the emotivism approach.
Emotivism is a non–cognitive theory of ethics, because it denies, among other things, that moral
claims can appeal to "facts." Rather, emotivism, as the name indicates, simply says that moral
claims express an emotional response, or an attitude, we may have toward a given kind of behavior

Imagine a life of not choosing how a person's day will go, being forced to live a certain way. Most
people have no idea what it feels like to be in prison. Statistically only one out of every five people
will know what it's like to be in prison. Most of us imagine that prison life is hard and extremely
difficult to endure, but because of the life long lasting debt to society many struggle with adapting to
life on the outside. Much of their time is structured. They are told where they can live, how they can
interact with people, or even where the can work. Many lives of the convicted are hindered because
of the laws we have set in place for them.
The words "sex offender" immediately make you think of horrible memories of a crime show that
portrays sex offenders being a stranger who continually again rapes women, or a pedophile harming
multiple children but in many cases this is not the case. Worldwide sexual offenders are the most
sought out to continue to offend even after sentencing. Investigated by the Bureau of Justice
statistics it showed that us of 9,700 tracked sex offenders only 5.3% of these were re–arrested for a
