My Favorite Quote Analysis
My favorite quote will always be by Sappho in which she says, "Someone, I tell you, in another time
will remember us." She was right. She's remembered for being a gay poet and is immortalized
despite a lot of her works not being found completely. It's one of my favorite quotes because
identifying as a nonbinary queer person who also likes girls, I can relate to Sappho a lot when she
writes about her desire for love and personal heartbreaks. This quote also brings me ease as even in
"another time" someone will still remember me. I think we all want to leave a legacy of some sort,
and for me I want my legacy to be centered around my experience and accomplishments as an
American born Punjabi artist and social activist, who was also highly active in the LGBTQ+
community. I want someone to remember me because it is a vicious cycle that people of color and
members of the color in the LGBTQ+ community get forgotten in history. History is white– washed.
But the idea that I will do enough in my life to be remembered in some shape or form, reminds me

Moving on, my strength and determination did not magically appear one day. I had a lot of amazing
people who are a part of my support network who helped show me what healthy self love and
growth is supposed to be. One of the people I will be highlighting is my AP English teacher.
Candice Ligator, was one of the best, and one of my favorite teachers in my high school career. She
was a big part of my support system when it came to being a trans and queer student who had a lot
of family issues. She was also a big inspiration to me as she told us stories full of struggles growing
as a teacher. She talked about how starting off as a teacher at first made her cry every night, showing
me that it takes persistence to be adept in a profession. Her choices on the pieces of literature she
taught were engaging as they touched upon feminism, gay rights, and race. This allowed me to
explore both my interest in writing and in social justice. Reading about personal experiences from
Mary Shelley, Oscar Wilde, and Ralph Ellison was inspiring as it allowed me to see that I can

My Strength In Life
Lily has had a pretty rough life. From her parents getting divorced when she was 4, her dad abusing
her, her mom becoming a drug addict and her sister passing away when she was 10. Lily has always
stayed strong even though she has been through a lot. She finds different ways to get her mind of
things such as hanging out with friends and playing the sport she loves, volleyball. Although Lily is

The Importance Of Friendship In My Life
One thing I plan to do to meet people who can help me is to make more friends. Making friends is
one way I can build relationships that will benefit me during and after college. I have already built
some friendships with students I have met this year that are beneficial to me in regard to studying. I
can study with the friends I make during college and get help with assignments that I do not
understand. As for after college, the friends that I keep in touch with may inform me of a job
opportunity they have heard of or a job opportunity in their current job. They may be able to connect
me to future employers. Building lasting friendships will benefit me in the long run whether it be
career wise or socially. However, to make more friends I would have to stop being shy and initiate a

Personal Reflection
Growing up I became accustomed to being in academic environments that were heavily populated
by minorities. Due to this I was constantly surrounded by people who shared similar backgrounds
and experiences as me. When I began my studies at the University of Maryland it was a completely
different atmosphere. Coming into an environment where I was no longer surrounded by minorities
made me feel out of place. Often times I would ask myself if this was the right place for me, but
then I would remind myself that my hard work and dedication got me there. Still, I would have my
doubts. During my second semester (Spring 2017) I met a couple of girls on campus who were
members of SIA. As I began to talk to them more I quickly noticed their strong work ethic and all of
their achievements. Meeting them helped me stop feeling out of place at school as I was able to
meet more people with similar ethnic backgrounds as me. I admired their interest in creating a
community of Latina empowerment. This is one of the reasons I became interested in joining SIA.
Being in a place where the issues minorities face are often ignored makes it even more important to
have organizations that focus on giving people the support system much needed in college. Another
reason I became interested in SIA was through their events on campus. Members are constantly
organizing events on many topic such as domestic violence and environmental racism. These events
were interesting to me because they were on topics that aren't often talked about. For example, when
I saw flyers about their environmental racism event I became interested in doing my own research
on these topics. Events like these are important because they help educate people on topics that are

The idea of home is a loose image for me, one that wobbles and threatens to be blown away at the
lightest breath. Home will never be a singular place, as I've become familiar with too many walls,
each a distinct color of beige that is friendly, but not inviting, like a stranger you greet briefly as you

Think of a mother deer raising its fawn, while the fawn is being raised, it is being taught about
survival, how to hunt and catch food. In a short period of time, that fawn is released into the wild on
its own, without its mother. The fawn has to rely on its mother 's teachings and also its own instincts,

In the fall of 2015 I was given orders to report to Baumholder, Germany. I had anticipated my first
assignment eagerly ever since I signed up for the Army in March of that same year. Without any

Sheila was my personal favorite person in this story not only because she designed websites but also
for many other reasons. One reason was because Sheila kept to herself.
One more main character was Alicia. Alicia was blind, and she didn't mind it at all. Alicia's
blindness happened when she was 12 years old during the middle of the night. The covers on her
bed wouldn't stop falling off and when she went to go pick the quilt she used to cover with she
bumped her head and got back in bed and when she got up she was blind and couldn't see anymore.

I would make a self–assessment for the reason that I can critically reflect on my life this far and
realize all I have went through and all of my achievements. People rarely have the chance to reflect

The critical theory reading reminds me of the idea of Frankenstein's monster . This idea describes
any process that sets up to destroy itself. It helps us to appreciate the links in the building blocks of
any process and how those links create weaknesses that unravel the same process. As it relates to
critical theory, we will see quite clearly how the theory builds up and eventually collapse as we
study its evolution.
I am attracted to critical theory first of all due to its links with Marxism. For me, Marxism is the
exact model of what a theory should be. It describes, explains and predicts the outcome of a specific
social situation. While the processes prescribed may be contestable– in fact, every idea should be
contestable–, the fact that it attempts to fulfill all aspects of a theory makes Marxism the all–time
great. But this reading is not about Marxism, it is about critical theory. So, what is critical theory?

grew up in a Catholic household, but I never paid attention during mass. I believed that my
background was going to help me but saying that I am a catholic does not mean the same as being a
