The Importance Of Gospel Music
Gospel music is church music. But it has a deeper meaning than that it has a history and it also has a
race background. In general Gospel music is a genre of Christian Music. The word Gospel means
good news. Gospel music spreads a message of christianity of God, it expresses a message of good
news. Gospel Music is joy and hope; it helped African American slaves to go through their daily
challenges and still have hope and faith.
During the late 1800's African American churches started developing this type of music. Gospel
music is deeply rooted in the rich traditions of the African–American church. Music is important in
every aspect of life. Music expresses emotions, suffering, hope and help people to see things from a
different point of view. There's many different type of music, and church decided to have their own
music called gospel music. Music is also entertainment, church needed their own music that they
could identify. Every type of music is important but gospel music has a lot of importance because is
related to church but also has a background race story. Gospel music helped slaves to escape to
freedom and it also helped them to see life in a different way. It helped them to have hope and faith
because gospel music is about God and his power and miracles. Gospel music promotes hope,
wisdom and mercy. Gospel Music had always been important, since the first day it was made. It is
so important because is music with a meaning promotes things that others music don't.

Argumentative Essay On Christian Modern Music
The problem here, is that most of the authors of this music are not Lutheran, a problem that is
recognized by both sides of the argument. "And for those who would point to the genre of Christian
contemporary music and say it lacks theological depth and fullness, I would say this: What do you
expect? It's mostly lay–people who aren't Lutheran who are writing this stuff!"1 "The fact remains
that there's so much garbage out there, you have to constantly be on guard when straying from
orthodox hymns. ... The praise & worship genre has so many pitfalls and nothing of substance to
offer that isn't already found in the historic liturgy or hymnody, it begs the question, why deviate
from it?"2 Why should the Church have to dig through all of this poorly ... Show more content on

When this happens, there is no question that this is not an adiaphron, but rather it is something that
is prohibited by the Scriptures and the Confessions. The Gospel cannot be hidden, "For then
Christians are deprived of the true comfort they have in the Gospel against the Law's terrors, and the
door is again opened in God's Church to the papacy. ... Whatever causes confusion between the Law
and the Gospel should be diligently prevented (i.e., by which the two doctrines, Law and Gospel,
may be confused and mixed into one doctrine."9 Now those who advocate for contemporary
worship would argue that the music doesn't obscure the Gospel,
As a side note, when the song "Trading My Sorrows" says "Yes, Lord. Yes, Lord. Yes, yes, Lord"
those words are used as a reference to Christ's "Verily, verily" or "amen, amen" in the gospels and
are a powerful approval of the message of the verses, which is a lesson in contentment and even in
the theology of the cross: "I'm trading my sorrows, I'm trading my pain, I'm laying them down for
the joy of the Lord." That message is exactly what God wants from us – take the focus off of our
lives, put it on the grace of

Music and Christians Essay
Music is an everyday occurrence for most people. In some way, shape and form, people listen to
music. For Christians, specially those at bible college, this can be in chapel day to day. For others it
may be in a car or even in the workplace, which can be the case for Christians also. Music for me is
an everyday occurrence, not only in chapel but also in other places such as my dorm room and when
I get ready for sports. These things has caused me to research the topic of music. It has a huge
impact on my life. I have sometimes listened to music when I am stressed out and need an escape. I
listen to music to get ready for sports games, such as for football and basketball. Music is in my

The music I listen to most is in the rock genre. Solomon elaborated on this topic when determining
whether rock music is evil or not: "Rock music is not intrinsically evil. It did not originate in a
pagan past, and even if it did that would not mean that it is evil. Nevertheless, since it has been a
prominent and influential part of American culture for several decades, it demands the attention of
evangelicals. The attention it is given should begin with the understanding that the problems that are
a part of rock do not reside in the music itself; they reside in sinful people who can and often do
abuse it. The same can be said about any musical style, or any other art form." (Solomon
leaderu.com) So to look at it this way is to see that rock music is not evil in itself. But it does show
that we are to look at the abuse of it and lean on the fact of the lyrics as stated earlier. Another
source looks at whether God can use rock music for His glory or not. The article says that question
shouldn't be, "Can God use Christian rock music for His glory?" but it should be, "Will He use
Christian rock music for His glory." (Bealer helium.com) The author Paula Bealer follows that with
a question of her own, "Why wouldn't he?" She also goes on to state: This scripture [Psalms 150:3–

Biblical Theology Of Worship. Throughout Our Time In Church,
Biblical Theology of Worship Throughout our time in Church, and here at Moody, it is hard to go
through it without being told that a priority we should put in our relationship with God is that we
should worship him. But what does that mean and how do we do it? What does the bible say about
worshiping God? Worship is the feeling or expression of reverence and adoration for God. I think
that we can show that through our daily actions and also through singing to God and praying to him,
as we most commonly see in Church When we envision worship in our minds, we commonly think
of people in a church singing songs to a powerpoint presentation. But to think that is the only way
that we can worship God is false in every sense of the word. A ... Show more content on

If they knew why we do what we do in worship on Sunday then they would be much more
entertained. When we looked at different things that should be included into Corporate Worship on
Sunday morning, what better place to look than at some of the churches that Paul wrote to in his
epistles, because apparently we aren't the only ones that are struggling to find out what the best way
of planning corporate worship is. The first verse that anyone goes to for Corporate Worship is found
in Colossians 3:16 when Paul tells the Colossians to, "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly,
teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs,
with thankfulness in your hearts to God." The first step that Paul gives to the Colossians is to "let the
word of Christ dwell in you richly", showing there is a connection between Corporate Worship and
the reading of the Word of God. It almost appears as if Paul is saying we need to read the Word first
before we can all come together in worship of God. Then Paul says we should be "teaching and
admonishing one another in all wisdom," This section shows us two things: teaching, and
fellowship. We need to be taught about the word of God and also we need to keep in touch with
other believers and go through life with them, learning from them and vice versa. Hebrews 10:25 is
an example of this, saying "we shouldn't be neglecting seeing each other, but instead should be

Analysis Of ' Walking On Water '
When I mentions my desire to write to an acquaintance of mine, she immediately assumed I would
write "Christian novels." I do wish to write Christian content, but her idea of Christian books and
mine differ vastly. Author of the acclaimed novel A Wrinkle In Time, Madeline L'Engle eloquently
reflects on the relationship between Christianity and art in her book, Walking on Water. Within this
work, she asks what makes art Christian, an artist Christian, and the relationship between faith and
art. After reading her book, I have arrived at certain conclusions regarding "Christian art" and
Christian art. I enjoyed that L'Engle devoted an entire chapter to names and labels, in which she
states her aversion to having the designation of "a Christian children's author," stating her identity as
an author and a Christian separately. Pigeonholing her work because of readership or her own
beliefs troubles her, and she states that if an artist truly follows Christ, their work will be Christian,
whether Jesus appears in the work or not. Much of what appears under the label of "Christian" when
it comes to books, music, or art fits into a specific category that rather lacks quality. Though many
would assert that saving souls should remain the primary goal of any and all Christian interaction
with the world, I simply wish to write the truth as I see it. Christian truths can come out of my
works, but only because they occur naturally and not because they were force–injected. In

Surprising Science: What Music Does To Our Brains By Belle...
Reflection of Music Music is a reflection of the human soul that encompasses the direct emotion of
the inner being. Music has existed from the beginning of time from the very creation of the universe,
as the angles worshiped God. Throughout the centuries music has dramatically changed, exposing
our nature of each generation time and time again. Truth is, you can expose the mindset of an
individual based on the music he or she is currently listening to. The article "Surprising Science:
What Music Does to Our Brains" by, Belle Beth Cooper makes eight points on how a person reacts
when listening to music. Each person will react to music differently depending on their generation
and perception at the given moment and has the ability to control ... Show more content on

The first point is definitely true, as mentioned above, I will listen to different music depending on
my mood based on how it makes me feel. I believe this to be true for most people that we will all
perceive a piece of music differently. The second point makes a good claim that moderate levels of
music increases a person's creativity, but this could also be tied into the first point as people perceive
things differently. Personally, I enjoy listening to my music at a high level in my ear buds while
painting, this allows all other distractions to be at a minimum and I can paint freely. Additionally, I
agree with the third point to an extent. I have listened to almost every different genre of music at one
time or another throughout my life, I have been known to listen to multiple genera's in the same day.
Trying to label a persons' personality type with the music they listen to can be controversial and a
bias opinion. Point four makes a great statement that listening to music can be dangerous while
driving depending on a persons' enthusiasm. I personally rock out to music while driving; singing on
top of my lungs and using my steering wheel as a drum is typical for me while I drive alone.
However, this has caused slight yet unnecessary swerving at times so I try to keep my excitement
down to a reasonable level. I feel that point five is extremely important. There have been a multitude
of studies done reflecting the impact that music training is beneficial to children. I never had the
availability to learn a musical instrument as a child, where my sister who is fourteen years younger
than me is currently learning the piano. I see a significant difference in our creativity and learning
habits. I agree with what point six mentions that music has a strong connection to our brains, studies
have proved that classical music improves the synapses in our brain which I suppose can improve

Oratorio Music Vs Christian Music
Throughout the ages, music has been very important to religion. Ever since the middle ages, the
religious music told a story of a biblical event. The current day Christian music tells a story about
life and how Jesus Christ can fix the problem because he is all powerful. Oratorio is one example of
older religion music. The current type of religious music is called Contemporary Christian music.
There are a lot of different genres between these two. Oratorio and Contemporary music differ
greatly; however, they both speak about the perfect Jesus Christ.
Oratorio music was very sacred music in its time. Oratorio originated in the baroque ere. They were

Handel's oratorio, Messiah, is one of his most well– known works. A part of this oratorio is called
Hallelujah Chorus and the music repeats itself a lot. If there is only one word in that section, that
one word is repeated a lot. If there is a phrase in that section, then that phrase will be repeated at
least two times. The overall story of this song is how Jesus will reign forever. The main line said in
this song is hallelujah. On the other hand, each contemporary music piece is very different. Meridith
Andrew's song, "You're Not Alone," talks about how when people go through hard times, Jesus
Christ is still there. Only the chorus of this song repeats. Two of the main lines in this song is, "You
are not alone because I am here" and "I am the one who has loved you all your life." Francesca
Battistelli wrote the song "Free to be me." She relates to people throughout the whole song by
talking about how she has dents in her fender and rips in her jeans. She uses these to talk about how
she is not perfect, but that God loves her for who she is. One of the main lines in this song is
"perfection is my enemy." The band called Sidewalk Prophets wrote the song "You Love Me
Anyways." This song talks about how we make mistakes, but God still loves us through it all. They
have many examples of things we do wrong in life, but the one that stood out in the song was "I am
the nail in your wrist, but you love me anyways." Casting Crowns is a well– known contemporary
Christian band. One of their songs is "American Dream." This song talks about how people are
starting to put work and money above family and God. The theme of this song is that trying to live
the American dream and trying to be the best does not only push God away from you and your
family, it pushes your family away as well. The end of the song shows that the dad did

Worship and Music
Passionately Pursing our God in Music and Worship Music is of God's creation and an integral part
of our lives, yet much of the current experience is one of the most emotionally charged and divisive
issues facing the Christian Church, families, and individuals in America today. Pastors, worship
leaders, trained musicians, and believers in general face new and powerful forces of change – forces
that bring renewal to some churches and fear and schism to others. No one can sidestep the hot
debate between such matters as the various styles of music, hymns versus choruses, seeker services
versus worship services, choirs versus worship teams, organs versus synthesizers, and flowing
praise versus singing one song at a time. With billions of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Hopefully, the church will exercise diligent study of the more than six hundred passages in the
Scriptures that will gradually define this issue of musical belief and practice in more biblical terms
based on solid exegesis of God's Word.
The purpose of worship is to attribute worth to God (Psalm 27:6), to praise God (Psalm 150:3–4), to
lift the emotions of the heart (Ephesians 5:18–19), to learn Scripture and spiritual truths by singing
(Psalm 32:7–8), to introduce others to Jesus Christ (Psalm 40:3), to instruct and convict through the
proclamation and singing of scriptural texts (Isaiah 55:11; 1 Corinthians 10:31; Ephesians 5:15–21),
and to encourage obedience (James 1:25). God is the primary focus of our worship endeavors, but
we must also consider the effect of our worship upon one another. John Frame addresses this issue,
stating, "The focus of our effort in worship should be on pleasing [God]. From this principle, some
might conclude that we should not pay any attention to human needs in worship. Talk like that can
sound very pious, but it is unbiblical. In worship, we should not be so preoccupied with God that we
ignore one another. For example, worshipers should not ignore the needs of the poor (Isaiah 1:10–
17).

Fundamentalism and Rock and Roll Essay
Holding onto the five fundamentals, as many Christian fundamentalists call them, is according to the
doctrinal truths within the movement. They believe in the inerrancy of Scripture, which reveals
Christ as the Messiah, His virgin birth, the atonement in His blood, and His bodily resurrection.
Additionally, embedded within the movement is the belief that they, "the saved," are engaged in a
cosmic war that is taking place here and now. As Reza Aslan explains a cosmic war or religious war
is, "an earthly battle between rival religious groups...a real, physical struggle in this world and an
imagined, moral encounter in the world beyond." This war is a continuous battle that takes place on
all earthly fonts, even on the airwaves.

With classic evangelical hymns like "are you washed in the blood of the lamb" and "shall the vile
race of flesh and blood" one can get a feel of the bloody imagery within Christian hymns, which
could sit right beside some of the darker black–death and heavy–metal rock genres like "Baptized in
blood" by the artist Death. As a way to fight against such evils, evangelical groups began to create
alternative choices to the satanic unholy offensive music. The cultural phenomenon known as
"Contemporary Christian Music" features Christian rock music, which includes Christian heavy
metal, among many other styles of music that reintroduce themes that reinforce the five
fundamentals. With songs of Christ's divine forgiveness and personal salvation that are backed up by
similar musical accompaniment that their secular counterparts sing but minus all the sex, drugs,

Cause I am in love with You
It burns like a blazing fire
Rises like a mighty flame
My greatest desire
To be seated in love by Your name

Gospel Music As A Genre Of Christian Music
Ever think about what the real definition of Gospel music is? Gospel music is a genre of Christian
music. Gospel is the term used for the first four books of the New Testament, describing the life,
death, and resurrection of Jesus. The word gospel means good news which is derived from the
Greek word ε ὐαγγέλιον. Gospel music serves many purposes such as aesthetic pleasures and
religious purposes and as an entertainment product for the market. Gospel music consists of a strong
harmony and Christian lyrics.
Gospel music became known around the 17t h century and rooted in the black tradition. Hand
clapping and foot stomping are often associated when gospel music is playing. Most of the singing
during that time was a cappella in other words with no music. The first use of the term "Gospel Song
"was in 1874. Some of the original gospel songs were written and composed by autho rs such as
George Root, William Howard Doane and Fanny Crosby.
In the slavery era many slave owners did not allow slaves to use traditional african instruments ,
sing or play their native music. As a result many of the words and melodies were forgotten and
vanished in North America. A new style of music emerged from this limitation. The church allowed
many slaves to express their feelings through gospel songs. Many slaves were not allowed to attend
but met secretly anyway.
The best part about gospel music tradition was the use of a choir. The church choir members

The Music Culture in Puerto Rico during the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries is poorly documented. It
most likely included Spanish church music, military band music, and diverse genres cultivated by

While they only make up 11% of the population in the country, they contributed some of the island's
most dynamic musical features becoming distinct indeed. In the 19th century, Puerto Rican music

Analysis Of The Film 'Joyful Noise'
"Joyful Noise wraps several entertainment modes into a hot fudge Sunday sundae. It is a suspense–
free singing competition drama; a down–home, just–folks bucket of cornpone; a thwarted teenage
romance of sweethearts without chemistry; and a silly extended cat fight with retracted claws"
claims Stephen Holden (Holden). A lot of the time, it is hard to tell what Holden really thinks about
the movie between his creative insults and mysterious, slightly positive comments, but overall, the
review is negative. Holden points out the movie's "minimally sketched subplots" including Vi–
Rose's son with Asperger's and the background romances. He also claims there is only one instance
where the audience sees the Dolly Parton they know and love, saying even the acting is subpar
(Holden). Stephen Holden has a nearly blind hate towards all aspects of the movie, many of which
are actually what give Joyful Noise its delightful charm and character. Holden's irrational distaste
toward the film in his review is misplaced and does not accurately depict the film. The "several
entertainment modes" that Holden finds so despicable are exactly what makes the film enjoyable,
and the film may not be a masterpiece but the quirks are what make it humorous and touching rather
than "a lower echelon of musical comedy hell" (Holden). A reviewer clearly has the right to dislike a
movie; that is a critic's job. However, Holden's language in the review is totally negative and
overlooks the point of the movie. As

Ralph Carmichael: The Father Of Contemporary Christian Music
From the beginning of times, music has played an important role in everyone's life. At first, it started
with drum–based and percussion instruments made out of what was available as rocks and sticks.
Our ancestors proved that human beings have an innate need of music. Nowadays, no one teaches a
baby to follow the beat of a song, he just naturally lets his body get involved with the rhythm. Since
the prehistoric era to Christian times, several forms of music have developed leaving a trail to new
genres of music. For Christianity, hymns and plainchants were the first forms of music considered as
a worship to God. As time passed by, Christian music has evolved giving way to new and fresh

Religious Music Research Paper
Religious music is an important way of proclaiming the Christian message. There are many different
types of religious music: psalm singing, gospel music, black gospel music, and contemporary music.
These types of religious share many things in common but take influences from different sources.
Psalm singing was established by the English Pilgrims and the Puritans that settled in
Massachusetts. These groups waned communities where they worship freely. Their worship
included singing of metered and rhymed versions of the Psalms. Two methods of psalm singing
were present during this time: a formal style present in the more musically literate people, and a
folk–like style present in the rural, small–town places. The formal style involved learning hymns
from notated music, while the folk style required learning songs by memory. Psalm singing was a
major influence to American religious music. Originally, gospel music meant hymns and songs
containing text related to the first four books of the New Testament rather than to the Psalms. This
term came to include a large variety of hymns and songs. Gospel music became widely used in the
early nineteenth century, when preachers strated a massive revival for religion. The southern gospel
music of the present day started from this tradition. The gospel ... Show more content on

Music Plays A Influence On My Life
Music plays a tremendous role in my life and always has. From the age of five, my parents
introduced to me to one particular type of music, which was gospel and it has been a part of who I
am ever since. I can remember waking up early on Sunday morning hearing gospel music from artist
such as Kim Burrell, Shirley Caesar, and Mary Mary. I began learning these particular gospel songs
and then I gained the courage to sing these songs in church. At that moment, I knew singing was a
passion of mine and music became food to my soul. I would have to say the moment in my life
where I strongly became influenced by music was as a child between the ages of five and twelve.
Then when I entered middle school, I joined the school band. I played two instruments, the
trombone and trumpet. Although I truly enjoyed playing those two instruments, I've always dreamed
of playing the piano or violin but I never gained the opportunity to receive lessons. During the
seventh grade, I joined the Needwood Middle School Choir. We sung gospel music and Christmas
music during the holiday season. With gaining so much musical experience during my time in
Middle School, my church appointed me to Youth Choir Director for Salem St. John Baptist Church.
Overall, I prefer Gospel music for so many different reasons. One of the reasons I prefer to listen to
Gospel music is because of the messages behind this type of music. God comes first and he truly is

played, was George Frideric Handel. A few of his most famous pieces came from the subjects, Israel
in Egypt, Jephtha, Judas, Saul, and Messiah (Baily 169). Contemporary Christian music is the
complete opposite of Oratorio music. Contemporary music consist of stories about having a

of hard rock, dance pop, and hip hop (Lindenbaum 70). Femi Adedeji wrote a paper

Personal Narrative-Feminist Christian Girl Life
Decision–making has never been my forte, exactly. I once drove around town with a friend for forty

animatedly; they are mostly white and young. No one sits alone. Floor–to–ceiling windows fill the
auditorium with welcoming light as slides flash on the screen announcing events coming up during
the next month: mostly fellowship picnics and guest speakers. The worship band quietly gathers
onstage, and the worship leader, a tall man in his fifties, plays a few notes on the baby grand piano.
Everyone moves to their seats like clockwork, still whispering amongst themselves. One of the

From the songs to the preaching to the prayers BFCF sets itself apart as a place for loyalists,
Christians who already know what they're looking for in a church. The songs and prayer specifically
appeal to more Christians seeking fellowship and growth with an emotional undertone. Unbelievers
would be welcome, but they would feel out of place, especially due to BFCF's overarching views on
culture. Black Forest Christian Fellowship makes their cultural views clear from the first song. They
sing about winning the nation back, begging God to set their hearts on fire for Him. Even the
sermon illustration about comic books begs the question as to why Christians are spending so much
time and effort on the things of the world. They believe there is hope for the culture, but that God
must bring about change. Seclusion is not preached, but there is a distinct separation between church
and culture. And while some of the songs, sans lyrics, could easily be the background to a song
playing on the radio, the lyrics are distinctly worshipful. Black Forest Christian Fellowship is
attempting to be in the world but not of it, strengthening already–converted Christians in their faith.
It utilizes aspects of the culture, such as music, but it is not incredibly involved in evangelism on a
church basis. Certainly, members of the church are highly involved in evangelizing the community.
Some are even missionaries. It is simply a church not for

Music : My Passion Of Music In My Life
Ever since I was in my mother's womb, music was a part of me. Music was a part of me because of
my dad. He has been playing the guitar and singing even before him and my mom even met. I
remember listening to stories on how when my mom was pregnant with me, he would play music
and I would kick like crazy. Because of this, music was in my blood. I felt destined to play music.
Turns out music became my passion. Listening to music and eventually playing it became my
everything. When I was younger I was taught how to play a few instruments. One of those being the
piano. When I first started lessons, I hated it. The reasoning behind this was because of my teacher.
After I found a new teacher, I became to love it. I loved it so much that I took piano lessons for five
years. I would play for different events at church and during service. Despite all the time and money
spent on learning how to play this instrument, I got tired of it. So I then decided to quit.
Then on May 23, 2013, a package arrived at my house. It arrived in a big box and I was so excited
to see what it was, I wanted to open it so badly. But I couldn't, because at my house we had a rule, if
your name wasn't on the package you couldn't open it. I waited anxiously for my dad to come home
so he could open the package. I was waiting around like a little kid on Christmas. Finally my dad
came home. He then got his exacto knife and began cutting. It felt like he was taking forever. Once
he cut it open I started throwing packing peanuts everywhere. After throwing what felt like millions
of packing peanuts was another box. I lifted that box so gently, as if I was carrying a baby. I lifted
the top and there it was, one of the most beautiful things I had seen. The ukulele was outlined with a
beautiful jade mosaic pattern. The outer part of it and the sound hole was covered with this pattern.
The ukulele itself was a tan color. It had a gloss on top which made it shine. It was so beautiful.
I then picked it up and attempted to play with it, even though I had no idea what I was doing. The
sound was not melodic, the sound made me want to crush it into millions of pieces. Part of that
being it was not tuned and also because I did not know how to play. When it

What Does Cobie Cailop Try Essay
The standards society hold for women today are wiped away in Colbie Caillat's song Try. Caillat
uses simplicity and a contemporary music style in Try to convey the suffocation women feel because
they try to live up to these stereotypes in the 21st century. When Caillat wrote her song, she used
repetition of her lyrics to hit home the theme that women are beautiful inside and out. Caillat stated
in an interview that "When you have a cute outfit on and your makeup looks amazing, the first thing
people comment on is your image . . . when you don't wear makeup, you hear things like, 'Oh wow,
you look tired or you're so brave for not wearing makeup!'" Caillat uses her words, and influence as
a celebrity, to reject the typical stereotypes of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We see all skin types, various ages, different races, and all the women stand in front of a plain and
drab background, putting them at the center of attention. Caillat starts out all dolled up and then
proceeds, along with the other women, to take off the makeup, and in some cases hair extensions
and a wig, to un–Photoshop themselves. A lot of close–up shots showed only their faces, and side by
side videos of "before" and "after" as the women wiped off their makeup with solemn faces, but
showed smiling or laughing faces when not wearing makeup. I saw relief in their faces as they
accepted themselves, and they showed the world their happiness as it literally shined out of their
faces like sunbeams. They stared directly into the camera, challenging it as they sang along with
Caillat's words. Although this song carries a strong body positivity message, the imperfections bore
proudly by the women in the video are the imperfections deemed appropriate, or more common, to
society such as being overweight, having a gap in between teeth, frizzy hair, freckles, and wrinkles.
The lighting was perfect and nobody's skin was oily, had any acne, discoloration, or scars. Those
imperfections society judges more because it is "gross" and easy to point out. These women looked
beautiful with and without makeup, but without they were liberated and showed their true beauty
and who they were. After watching the video all around the world, people understand how society's
expectations make women feel

What Are The Differences Of Music Or Religious Music?
There exists a plethora of religions around the world that each have their own various sects, beliefs
and sacred traditions. Nevertheless, most to all of these religions retain the same ideas of the
existence of higher beings that are omnipotent and omniscient. In order to worship these higher
beings, people that belong to a certain religion participate in rituals, religious holidays or perform
traditional music that belongs to that religion. Music has the power to control the emotions and
thoughts of its listeners. Furthermore, religious music is able to initiate or deepen the spiritual
connection between the listener, performer, and the higher being regardless of sect. Can different
genres of music that belong to various religions share similar musical or spiritual elements? Three
songs that are of distinct genres and religions indeed share the theological concepts of putting all of
one's faith and trust in a higher being, while seeking that entity for strength and refuge.
The summation of the stanzas in a particular contemporary Christian song represents a religious
concept, specifically in the Christian tradition, where in times of weakness or uncertainty, one must
put all of their faith in God. "Oceans" by Hillsong United is simply a powerful story within itself,
where each stanza conveys a part of that story to its listeners. For example, the first stanza begins
with the phrase, "You call me out upon the waters, the great unknown where feet may fail." The

False Dichotomy Essay
Currently, myriads of churches tumble into this false dichotomy. Traditional–based churches sing
church hymns with few instruments. On the other side, the contemporary church demonstrates itself,
replete with stage lighting, mixing boards, projection systems for the lyrics, etc. Nevertheless, either
form of music imparts itself as an acceptable form of worship, moreover, authentic worship puts
God in the center, the object of worship. However, the debate continues in Christian circles over the
superior form of worship music. Now, contemporary music risks the danger of becoming a concert
based solely on the participant's feelings rather than being a true communal worship event. I recently
attended a church who played contemporary music ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The participant dethrones God and puts their feelings of the experience on the throne. The audience
grades the talent of the performers with applause. The church becomes a circus where the title of
entertainer displaces that of the pastor. Perchance, the sermon, itself could degenerate into a feel
good false gospel.
Indeed, traditional, hymn based music gets the inappropriate label as old–fashioned. Opponents
promulgate that it nudges away the youth and it bequeaths little emotional resonance with the
general congregation. This begs the question; what intrinsic value does the music offer in the first
place, whatever the form? Obviously, we sing to give praise to God and not to give ourselves
emotional well–being.
Obviously, the aforementioned may provoke strong feelings either way one views the issue.
However, the parties can meet part way down the road. On the contemporary side, the touchstone of
the worship music necessitates it to be God–centered with a strong scriptural focus. Many of the
great hymns were modeled after Scripture. Plainly, the talent of the performer should not usurp the
glory of God and become the center of focus. Also, applause discontinued. On the traditional side,
perhaps, they could jazz up some of those

A Pastoral Intern At The Evanston Vineyard Church Essay

an intern. The Vineyard is a diverse community that welcomes both religious and secular people
belonging to different ethnic, racial, cultural, linguistic, economic, academic, professional and non–
professional backgrounds. People from more than fifty–fivenations of the world gather together and
worship here at the church. A total of twelve salaried pastors serve on staff, out of which five are
male and seven female. I am one of two female pastoral interns presently in service. In response to
my VFCL assignment of interviewing a pastor from my Field Site, I interviewed the Vineyard
Community Life Pastor, Elizabeth ("Liz") Hawes. Liz shared some information about the historical
emergence of the Vineyard Christian Church of Evanston that is also available on the church
website. According to its history, the Evanston Vineyard was founded in January of 1976. The
founders of this church include the Senior Pastor and his wife, Steve and Cindy Nicholson, the
Executive Pastor and his wife, Bill and Cheryll Hanawalt, and few other people. In 1985, the baby

Essay about Analysis of Song How to Save A Life by The Fray
The Fray's hit song, 'How To Save a Life,' tells a story of a mentor, also a friend, who is trying to
'save a life' of a troubled youth. The story starts off with the teenager and this friend sitting down to
have a talk about what is wrong in the teen?s life. The second line reads, 'he walks, you say sit down
it's just a talk,' this showing anger and fear of what might be brought up in conversation, so he tries
to run away from the problem. Although neither individual wants to have the talk, they both respect
each other enough to be polite, 'He smiles politely back at you/
You stare politely right on through.' Then the narrator mentions a metaphorical 'window to your

Then it is told that, ?he will do one of two things/he will admit to everything/or he'll say he's just not
the same,? which is meaning he might come out and say he needs help and stay, or he might leave
and never return. The last verse ends with, ?and you'll begin to wonder why you came,? once again,
any which way telling us that even at the end of the conversation he is doubting his skills to help the
youth. The chorus takes place in the mind of the mentor, ?where did I go wrong?/I lost a
friend/somewhere along in the bitterness/and I would have stayed up with you all night/had I known
how to save a life.? He is, at heart, telling himself he failed to save someone because he didn?t know
how. The very first line of the song the lyrics read, ?step one, you say we need to talk,? which is
obviously trying to give a step–by–step detail of how someone would go about having a difficult
talk with someone who may be ruining their life. The song was written to guide someone to help
those in need. In an interview that Christian radio personality, Stan Friedman, had with Isaac Slade,
the Fray?s lead vocalist, Friedman mentions, ?The title track to How to Save a Life recounts Slade's
mentoring relationship with a teenager at a Christian halfway house who seemed hell–bent on
destroying himself?but, fortunately, did not? (Christian Music Today). In the same interview Slade

Jesus Made In America By Stephen J. Nicholas
When I was reading the book Jesus Made in America by Stephen J. Nicholas, I came across a very
interesting chapter titled "Jesus on Vinyl". This chapter discussed in detail the state of the use of
Jesus in contemporary music from the 1950s up to the current times. Back 3in the 1950s there were
contemporary artists who putting out albums of hymns, like Johnny Cash's Hymns of Johnny Cash.
Not surprisingly, the most significant time for Christian gospel music was during the hippie era in
the 1960s. During that time, gospel, youth, and music had merged together into songs that preached
about Christ and love. Many people became Christians during that time to protest the ongoing war
in Vietnam so it would make sense that they would start to make that a main topic in the music of
that time.
Hippies usually referred to themselves as the Jesus People (named by Duane Pederson who was one
of the leaders in Los Angeles) which led to this movement called the Jesus Movement. They claimed
to not be a part of the hippie culture that they were born out of nor were they a part of the
fundamental church. This caught the attention of several media outlets which drew more people do
the Jesus Peoples welcoming environment. Many baptisms happened during this time, like in 1967
when Ted and Liz Wise converted four couples into becoming followers of Jesus, usually while on
drugs. The people being baptized actually believed that they were being cleansed while still being
intoxicated. They

Cold Mountain by Charles Frazier Essay example
Cold Mountain
In Charles Frazier's Cold Mountain, the theme of music is one of the novel's most powerful themes.
From symbolizing character growth to the healing of physical wounds, music plays an integral part
in this novel. While many critics will point out that music has little effect on the human psyche,
Charles Frazier shows his belief that music does indeed have a profound effect on the human mind
throughout Cold Mountain. Throughout the novel, Inman, Ada, Ruby, Stobrod, and many other
characters experience music that allows them to keep faith against the odds or even heal their
wounds! There are three major types of music used in this novel; hymn music, folk music, and
"natural music". It is through these types of music that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But Monroe preached that they were misunderstanding the song if they fooled themselves into
thinking all creation would someday love them. What it really required was for them to love all
creation" (78). Monroe used the hymns of his church as a means to spread his ideas of how people
ought to live their lives. This pattern is also apparent with Inman. When he meets Swimmer, a
Native American, he learns of a chant that could "kill the soul of an enemy" (20). Inman cannot
accept this notion because "he had been taught by sermon and hymn to hold as truth that the soul of
man never dies" (20). Charles Frazier believed in the power of hymn to influence what people
believed about spirituality and the soul. This parallels the historical usage of hymns in church during
the Civil War as well as in today's church as a means to pass down culture. Hymn music also had the
ability to strengthen the Church and to solidify the beliefs of the parishioners. There is a large
disagreement over the influence of religious music over a person's beliefs. The evangelical song
leaders believed that religious music moved people with no faith to a life dedicated to praising God,
but people from outside the church described religious music as "cheap and tawdry" (Squire 242).
According to the United Evangelical Front religious music was a way to articulate God's plan and
extend the influence of religion outside of the church

Analysis Of Uncomfortable
The song "Uncomfortable" by Andy Mineo is a Christian rap song that crosses many lines. Andy
Mineo has been a part of the Unashamed Christian rap movement since 2011; he has released two
albums previously and recently released his latest album, Uncomfortable. His inspiration for his
latest album is the quote, "Good art should disturb the comfortable and comfort the disturbed,"
(Billboard.com). The newest album has a completely different sound than his other albums. In fact,
every one of his songs on the album has a different sound. Some of the songs on the album, like the
song "Uncomfortable," has multiple sounds combined into the one song. Andy uses this technique,
in addition to other lyrical techniques, to make the listener uncomfortable just by listening to the
song.
Together, the beginning bridge and the intro, really set the scene for the rest of the song. The music
in this section starts off with a smooth piano accompanied by other classical string instruments. The
words in this section are sung soft and smooth to match the music. The lyrics themselves are in the
perspective of someone who has recently died who spent his life listening to other people in his life
constantly telling him to "live it up". However, he was still met with death, as well as the life after
death. He was met with a post–mortem life that is hell because he was more obsessed with comfort
than with Jesus Christ.
As the song transitions from the intro and bridge into the first verse, the music makes a dramatic
switch from smooth and soft to something upbeat and more trap–sounding. At this abrupt, dramatic
switch, the singing fluidly changes into rap. Andy Mineo starts the verse off by commenting again
on the fact that comfort is the downfall of many people. Andy also makes many scriptural references
for example including the mention of the sword (of the spirit), in reference to Ephesians 6:17. Andy
has other implied references such as the verse "Gotta grip that blade of the sword". Andy is saying
he must check himself before he can point the sword of judgement at others (Matthew 5:7). He also
comments you cannot expect to grow unless you first experience some hardships or pain. Mineo
acknowledges the fact not

Importance Of Biblical Worldview
Wolters writes in his book, Creation Regained, that a worldview is almost essential to human beings
because we cannot live without belief and guidance, which a worldview serves as (Wolters, 76). As
Christians, we must have a biblical worldview, and in order to have a biblical worldview, it is
critical for Christians to understand and discern structure and direction. Structure and direction are
the main biblical themes, which Christians use to reform and renew every sector of their lives.
I. Structure Structure is one aspect that defines an individual's worldview. Wolters defines structure
as the essence of a creation that God placed in His creational law (Wolters, 682). It does not change
despite human's perversity. For Christians, it is necessary to discern and understand structure since it
is in all aspects of society, and it serves as a standard in all those areas. It acts as an anchor that
provides definition and places boundaries and limits. As an example, a structure in government
defines what it is supposed to do and places boundaries and limitations for it to run like a
government, not like a school or a business. In a way, structure is God's mercy because not only
does it set a limit for creations, but it also sets a limit on the enemy and prevents its dominion and
bondage. Structure helps us to think about the questions in this world in a different perspective. It
enables us to think in a Godly, scriptural perspective, which will serve as a guideline for us to

Music Makes Children Smarter : Music Essay

that a specific part of our brain had a major role that can progress to become intellectual when

that listening to classical music is uncertain and does not necessarily make people smarter. Listening

Essay On Church Reflection
For my second church reflection, I attended NewSpring Church. I attended the eleven o'clock
service at the Greenville campus, which was located in the TD Convention Center. Since this was
not the main campus, the sermon had to be watched on the screen. However, the music was live.
This service had a casual and contemporary feel. Although this church is Southern Baptist, it did not
have the typical Baptist feel. Everything seemed to be more casual, modern, and laid back,
especially before and after the service. Interestingly, even though this service was very modern and
contemporary, there was still a great lack of diversity. Their staff, volunteers, band, and pastors were
very diverse, but the people attending the church were less diverse. The general demographic was
made up of Caucasian families as well as many Caucasian teenagers and young adults. There were a
few African Americans (the worship leader was African American), but overall there was a lack of
Hispanics, Asians, and African Americans. There were certainly not very many older adults either.
Interestingly, in addition to the modern atmosphere, all of the people were very casually dressed.
Most of the men had shorts and t–shirts on and the women mostly had pants or shorts on as well. I
do not think that there is anything wrong with this, and Newspring even states that they want you to
come however you are and however you are dressed, but this is an important observation that added
to the culture of the church.

this text, Hungry for Worship, authors Frank Page and L. Gray write about the hunger for

concept of how the body has fallen in love with the method of worship and not the actual act of

They give examples from C.S. Lewis when discussing this subject. They quote Lewis with the term
"Chronological snobbery". This term means that while older generations only find value in the
traditions and heritage of our faith, the younger generations only find relevance in what is current.
They also write this type of separation between the young and old has effectively begun
dismembering the body of Christ limb by limb. The authors also put focus on the act of individual
preferences through church shopping. This according to Page and Gray, result in the encouraging of
churches to offer consumer–driven programming in order to keep members on their rolls. They give
scripture which identifies the importance of unity. Ephesians 4:14–16 shows how the body of Christ
should be unified in the midst of diversity. Leaders should work extra hard to keep the church family
worshipping together. The authors condemn chronological snobbery and suggest that both the young
and old come together. The young generation must grow up and the older generation needs to adapt.
Analysis: The authors point out a huge problem that is alive and well in the church. Due to personal
preferences, the church has separated itself from one another. Not only are different cultures
separate but the age differences within the church are separated amongst themselves. The leaders of
worship within the church whether they are pastors or worship band leaders must not

Favourite Genre Analysis: Contemporary Worship Music?
Favourite Genre Analysis – Contemporary Worship Music (also known as praise and worship
music)
Genre description:
Contemporary Christian Music is often described as praise and worship music that is pop based and
often lead by a piano or guitar. It is common to find these songs in a Pentecostal church, though they
are sung in a lot of western churches. This kind of music originated in the 1950s in the United
States, though is currently becoming more popular around the world. The typical instruments used
in Contemporary Christian Music are: vocals, electric guitar, bass guitar, acoustic guitar, drums,
keyboards and synthesisers.

They only speak of praising God for what he has done for us, this is all one way as the songs aren't
about what we can do but what he has already done for us. Though it is the more happy clappy

genres. A simple way that I look at praise music is this is the music that you have at the start of the
set that is full of energy.
Worship Music; these songs are a lot slower and more intimate. Usually these songs speak of the
relationship you have with God, what he's calling you to do or even just declaring the fact that he's
alive in us. These songs are usually the ones where we hear from God about the things affecting our
lives or the people around our lives. The words in these songs can be very convicting and make you

situations. A simple way to look at this music is that these songs can be played by one person and

Transformative Essay: Contemporary Christian Music In America
Statistics have shown that some Protestants churches, such as the Baptists, tend to have blended
worship services. Thus, several churches are abandoning the traditional hymns and singing more
contemporary Christian music in their worship services. Researchers in church music affirm that this
is happening not only in Brazil, but it is a global tendency. The problem is that some churches can
easily lose their identity if those contemporary songs are not based on a solid theology and biblical
principles.
As an example, the current Brazilian's philosophy of congregational singing could be explained by
the two philosophies of worship developed in America after Charles Finney: the conservative
philosophy and the progressive philosophy. "According ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

a Christian should approach art. The book is divided into two sections. Section one is title Art in the
Bible and section two is titled Some Perspectives on Art. Section one gives examples of art within
the scriptures. This art includes things such as the patterns and details of the tabernacle and the

and dance. Schaeffer concludes section one with a discussion on the art detailed in the descriptions
of Heaven. In section two, Schaeffer gives eleven perspectives the Christian can use to "consider
and evaluate works of art" (Schaeffer 50). The first and most important listed is "A work of art has
value in itself" (Schaeffer 50). This is followed by; "Art forms add strength to the world view"
(Schaeffer 57), "In all forms of writing it makes a tremendous difference whether ... Show more

Although, I have heard them before, when Schaeffer describe the details within scripture, the beauty
of it all really sunk in for me, more so with the temple and the tabernacle, because these were details
laid out by God himself. To really create a mental image of what God had laid out for these
structures is amazing. I found all of the perspectives that Schaeffer lists to evaluate art very
interesting. The one perspective that really sparked my thinking was "Christian art is by no means
always religious art" (Schaeffer 88). Schaeffer explains how God created more than just religious
things during creation, such as flowers, birds, etc. and that these things are worthy of being painted,
photographed, wrote about, sung about, etc. Therefore, as a Christian artist, every one of our works
does not have to be religious in nature. Everything in God's beautiful creation is worth creating art

Essay Can Music Control Teens?
The importance of teens and their music is what get teens through their day. Everyday traveling
down the halls of school there are hundreds of people with headphones. Teens listen to music
everyday and most teens can not live without it. Music is what teens understand and it does not
matter what type of music it is. What types of music do teens listen to? Some music that teens listen
to are rap, rock, country, gospel, contemporary christian and much more. Do particular music genres
affect teens and their attitudes? "When teenagers use music as a mood–modifier, it can be used to
reinforce and perpetuate negative emotions as well as positive emotions" (Allen, 2013). It is clear
that music has an effect on teenagers' attitudes. The type of ... Show more content on

Most people think of the South when they hear gospel music and then started to migrate everywhere
all over. "Records show that gospel music started in the early 1900's, but many believe that it started
in the early 1600's to the 1860's, during American slavery. Gospel was created with a mix of sounds
from the Africans and the Europeans harmony and instruments. The African slaves met secretly and
used their voices to sing songs of Jesus saving them and freedom from the slave owners. "Swing
Low, Sweet Chariot" which on the surface is about life in the hereafter, but any slave knew it was
about the promise of life in the here and now devoid of slavery. 'Home' wasn't necessarily heaven,
but of freedom instead. Some historians argue that all early gospel songs were codified songs of
protest" (Tanner, n.d.). The North started hearing more and more about the South's music and their
music began to spread everywhere and all through the states. The South began to singing their music
in many groups. "The four main groups that spread some gospel were the choirs, a cappella quartets,
progressive quartets, and the solo singers. Choirs today range from "traditional" musical
accompaniment, typically piano and or organ, bass, drums (tambourine), and possibly guitar. Most
choirs normally sing together, but sometimes they have one or two soloist. A choir would consist on
sopranos, altos, tenors, and/or bass. A cappella quartets were a small group of singers. Most A

Music Amoral Research Paper
Is music amoral?
We as Christians will ask or wonder at some point in our life if music is amoral or not. Is music
amoral? If something is to be amoral, that means there is no possibility of it being right or wrong; it
means to be neutral. So is music amoral?
Many CCM (Contemporary Christian Music) artists will say that there is no right or wrong in music,
therefore music cannot be good or bad for a Christian. These contemporary artists will argue that if
the lyrics are okay then it doesn't matter whether or not the way it sounds is right or wrong. This is
not right! Since we as Christians know that there is certainly a difference between rights and wrong,
we know that must mean good music and evil music do exist. If music has a poppy beat that will
make me want to dance or go against Christ then that music is not God honoring. If a song has good
lyrics but a bad sound, then that is mixing the world with God's utmost perfection, and ... Show

God should respond to the music we make today the same way he did in II Chronicles. God was
pleased. Pleasing God through the music we make today will not be achieved through songs that are
filled with simple, shallow and meaningless lyrics.
So in conclusion, the answer to my beginning question is no. Music is not amoral. There is certainly
music that is good and there is music that is evil. We as Christians should strive to listen to and
make music that is only glorifying to God in the highest way possible. The entire reasoning for
God's creation of music was to bring praise to Him. Psalm 19:14, "Let the words of my mouth, and
the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my

The Importance Of Gospel Music

  • 1. The Importance Of Gospel Music Gospel music is church music. But it has a deeper meaning than that it has a history and it also has a race background. In general Gospel music is a genre of Christian Music. The word Gospel means good news. Gospel music spreads a message of christianity of God, it expresses a message of good news. Gospel Music is joy and hope; it helped African American slaves to go through their daily challenges and still have hope and faith. During the late 1800's African American churches started developing this type of music. Gospel music is deeply rooted in the rich traditions of the African–American church. Music is important in every aspect of life. Music expresses emotions, suffering, hope and help people to see things from a different point of view. There's many different type of music, and church decided to have their own music called gospel music. Music is also entertainment, church needed their own music that they could identify. Every type of music is important but gospel music has a lot of importance because is related to church but also has a background race story. Gospel music helped slaves to escape to freedom and it also helped them to see life in a different way. It helped them to have hope and faith because gospel music is about God and his power and miracles. Gospel music promotes hope, wisdom and mercy. Gospel Music had always been important, since the first day it was made. It is so important because is music with a meaning promotes things that others music don't. ... • 3. Argumentative Essay On Christian Modern Music The problem here, is that most of the authors of this music are not Lutheran, a problem that is recognized by both sides of the argument. "And for those who would point to the genre of Christian contemporary music and say it lacks theological depth and fullness, I would say this: What do you expect? It's mostly lay–people who aren't Lutheran who are writing this stuff!"1 "The fact remains that there's so much garbage out there, you have to constantly be on guard when straying from orthodox hymns. ... The praise & worship genre has so many pitfalls and nothing of substance to offer that isn't already found in the historic liturgy or hymnody, it begs the question, why deviate from it?"2 Why should the Church have to dig through all of this poorly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When this happens, there is no question that this is not an adiaphron, but rather it is something that is prohibited by the Scriptures and the Confessions. The Gospel cannot be hidden, "For then Christians are deprived of the true comfort they have in the Gospel against the Law's terrors, and the door is again opened in God's Church to the papacy. ... Whatever causes confusion between the Law and the Gospel should be diligently prevented (i.e., by which the two doctrines, Law and Gospel, may be confused and mixed into one doctrine."9 Now those who advocate for contemporary worship would argue that the music doesn't obscure the Gospel, As a side note, when the song "Trading My Sorrows" says "Yes, Lord. Yes, Lord. Yes, yes, Lord" those words are used as a reference to Christ's "Verily, verily" or "amen, amen" in the gospels and are a powerful approval of the message of the verses, which is a lesson in contentment and even in the theology of the cross: "I'm trading my sorrows, I'm trading my pain, I'm laying them down for the joy of the Lord." That message is exactly what God wants from us – take the focus off of our lives, put it on the grace of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Music and Christians Essay Music is an everyday occurrence for most people. In some way, shape and form, people listen to music. For Christians, specially those at bible college, this can be in chapel day to day. For others it may be in a car or even in the workplace, which can be the case for Christians also. Music for me is an everyday occurrence, not only in chapel but also in other places such as my dorm room and when I get ready for sports. These things has caused me to research the topic of music. It has a huge impact on my life. I have sometimes listened to music when I am stressed out and need an escape. I listen to music to get ready for sports games, such as for football and basketball. Music is in my dorm room when I am doing homework. When reading or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The music I listen to most is in the rock genre. Solomon elaborated on this topic when determining whether rock music is evil or not: "Rock music is not intrinsically evil. It did not originate in a pagan past, and even if it did that would not mean that it is evil. Nevertheless, since it has been a prominent and influential part of American culture for several decades, it demands the attention of evangelicals. The attention it is given should begin with the understanding that the problems that are a part of rock do not reside in the music itself; they reside in sinful people who can and often do abuse it. The same can be said about any musical style, or any other art form." (Solomon leaderu.com) So to look at it this way is to see that rock music is not evil in itself. But it does show that we are to look at the abuse of it and lean on the fact of the lyrics as stated earlier. Another source looks at whether God can use rock music for His glory or not. The article says that question shouldn't be, "Can God use Christian rock music for His glory?" but it should be, "Will He use Christian rock music for His glory." (Bealer helium.com) The author Paula Bealer follows that with a question of her own, "Why wouldn't he?" She also goes on to state: This scripture [Psalms 150:3– 6] is only one of many scriptures that tell us to use ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Biblical Theology Of Worship. Throughout Our Time In Church, Biblical Theology of Worship Throughout our time in Church, and here at Moody, it is hard to go through it without being told that a priority we should put in our relationship with God is that we should worship him. But what does that mean and how do we do it? What does the bible say about worshiping God? Worship is the feeling or expression of reverence and adoration for God. I think that we can show that through our daily actions and also through singing to God and praying to him, as we most commonly see in Church When we envision worship in our minds, we commonly think of people in a church singing songs to a powerpoint presentation. But to think that is the only way that we can worship God is false in every sense of the word. A ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If they knew why we do what we do in worship on Sunday then they would be much more entertained. When we looked at different things that should be included into Corporate Worship on Sunday morning, what better place to look than at some of the churches that Paul wrote to in his epistles, because apparently we aren't the only ones that are struggling to find out what the best way of planning corporate worship is. The first verse that anyone goes to for Corporate Worship is found in Colossians 3:16 when Paul tells the Colossians to, "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God." The first step that Paul gives to the Colossians is to "let the word of Christ dwell in you richly", showing there is a connection between Corporate Worship and the reading of the Word of God. It almost appears as if Paul is saying we need to read the Word first before we can all come together in worship of God. Then Paul says we should be "teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom," This section shows us two things: teaching, and fellowship. We need to be taught about the word of God and also we need to keep in touch with other believers and go through life with them, learning from them and vice versa. Hebrews 10:25 is an example of this, saying "we shouldn't be neglecting seeing each other, but instead should be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Analysis Of ' Walking On Water ' When I mentions my desire to write to an acquaintance of mine, she immediately assumed I would write "Christian novels." I do wish to write Christian content, but her idea of Christian books and mine differ vastly. Author of the acclaimed novel A Wrinkle In Time, Madeline L'Engle eloquently reflects on the relationship between Christianity and art in her book, Walking on Water. Within this work, she asks what makes art Christian, an artist Christian, and the relationship between faith and art. After reading her book, I have arrived at certain conclusions regarding "Christian art" and Christian art. I enjoyed that L'Engle devoted an entire chapter to names and labels, in which she states her aversion to having the designation of "a Christian children's author," stating her identity as an author and a Christian separately. Pigeonholing her work because of readership or her own beliefs troubles her, and she states that if an artist truly follows Christ, their work will be Christian, whether Jesus appears in the work or not. Much of what appears under the label of "Christian" when it comes to books, music, or art fits into a specific category that rather lacks quality. Though many would assert that saving souls should remain the primary goal of any and all Christian interaction with the world, I simply wish to write the truth as I see it. Christian truths can come out of my works, but only because they occur naturally and not because they were force–injected. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Surprising Science: What Music Does To Our Brains By Belle... Reflection of Music Music is a reflection of the human soul that encompasses the direct emotion of the inner being. Music has existed from the beginning of time from the very creation of the universe, as the angles worshiped God. Throughout the centuries music has dramatically changed, exposing our nature of each generation time and time again. Truth is, you can expose the mindset of an individual based on the music he or she is currently listening to. The article "Surprising Science: What Music Does to Our Brains" by, Belle Beth Cooper makes eight points on how a person reacts when listening to music. Each person will react to music differently depending on their generation and perception at the given moment and has the ability to control ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first point is definitely true, as mentioned above, I will listen to different music depending on my mood based on how it makes me feel. I believe this to be true for most people that we will all perceive a piece of music differently. The second point makes a good claim that moderate levels of music increases a person's creativity, but this could also be tied into the first point as people perceive things differently. Personally, I enjoy listening to my music at a high level in my ear buds while painting, this allows all other distractions to be at a minimum and I can paint freely. Additionally, I agree with the third point to an extent. I have listened to almost every different genre of music at one time or another throughout my life, I have been known to listen to multiple genera's in the same day. Trying to label a persons' personality type with the music they listen to can be controversial and a bias opinion. Point four makes a great statement that listening to music can be dangerous while driving depending on a persons' enthusiasm. I personally rock out to music while driving; singing on top of my lungs and using my steering wheel as a drum is typical for me while I drive alone. However, this has caused slight yet unnecessary swerving at times so I try to keep my excitement down to a reasonable level. I feel that point five is extremely important. There have been a multitude of studies done reflecting the impact that music training is beneficial to children. I never had the availability to learn a musical instrument as a child, where my sister who is fourteen years younger than me is currently learning the piano. I see a significant difference in our creativity and learning habits. I agree with what point six mentions that music has a strong connection to our brains, studies have proved that classical music improves the synapses in our brain which I suppose can improve our ... The current day Christian music tells a story about life and how Jesus Christ can fix the problem because he is all powerful. Oratorio is one example of older religion music. The current type of religious music is called Contemporary Christian music. There are a lot of different genres between these two. Handel's oratorio, Messiah, is one of his most well– known works. A part of this oratorio is called Hallelujah Chorus and the music repeats itself a lot. If there is only one word in that section, that one word is repeated a lot. If there is a phrase in that section, then that phrase will be repeated at least two times. The overall story of this song is how Jesus will reign forever. The main line said in this song is hallelujah. On the other hand, each contemporary music piece is very different. Meridith Andrew's song, "You're Not Alone," talks about how when people go through hard times, Jesus Christ is still there. Only the chorus of this song repeats. Two of the main lines in this song is, "You are not alone because I am here" and "I am the one who has loved you all your life." Francesca Battistelli wrote the song "Free to be me." She relates to people throughout the whole song by talking about how she has dents in her fender and rips in her jeans. She uses these to talk about how she is not perfect, but that God loves her for who she is. One of the main lines in this song is "perfection is my enemy." The band called Sidewalk Prophets wrote the song "You Love Me Anyways." This song talks about how we make mistakes, but God still loves us through it all. They have many examples of things we do wrong in life, but the one that stood out in the song was "I am the nail in your wrist, but you love me anyways." Casting Crowns is a well– known contemporary Christian band. One of their songs is "American Dream." This song talks about how people are starting to put work and money above family and God. Worship and Music Passionately Pursing our God in Music and Worship Music is of God's creation and an integral part of our lives, yet much of the current experience is one of the most emotionally charged and divisive issues facing the Christian Church, families, and individuals in America today. Pastors, worship leaders, trained musicians, and believers in general face new and powerful forces of change – forces that bring renewal to some churches and fear and schism to others. With billions of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hopefully, the church will exercise diligent study of the more than six hundred passages in the Scriptures that will gradually define this issue of musical belief and practice in more biblical terms based on solid exegesis of God's Word. The purpose of worship is to attribute worth to God (Psalm 27:6), to praise God (Psalm 150:3–4), to lift the emotions of the heart (Ephesians 5:18–19), to learn Scripture and spiritual truths by singing (Psalm 32:7–8), to introduce others to Jesus Christ (Psalm 40:3), to instruct and convict through the proclamation and singing of scriptural texts (Isaiah 55:11; 1 Corinthians 10:31; Ephesians 5:15–21), and to encourage obedience (James 1:25). God is the primary focus of our worship endeavors, but we must also consider the effect of our worship upon one another. John Frame addresses this issue, stating, "The focus of our effort in worship should be on pleasing [God]. From this principle, some might conclude that we should not pay any attention to human needs in worship. Talk like that can sound very pious, but it is unbiblical. In worship, we should not be so preoccupied with God that we ignore one another. For example, worshipers should not ignore the needs of the poor (Isaiah 1:10– 17). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They believe in the inerrancy of Scripture, which reveals Christ as the Messiah, His virgin birth, the atonement in His blood, and His bodily resurrection. Additionally, embedded within the movement is the belief that they, "the saved," are engaged in a cosmic war that is taking place here and now. As Reza Aslan explains a cosmic war or religious war is, "an earthly battle between rival religious groups...a real, physical struggle in this world and an imagined, moral encounter in the world beyond." As a way to fight against such evils, evangelical groups began to create alternative choices to the satanic unholy offensive music. • 21. Gospel Music As A Genre Of Christian Music Ever think about what the real definition of Gospel music is? Gospel music is a genre of Christian music. Gospel is the term used for the first four books of the New Testament, describing the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. The word gospel means good news which is derived from the Greek word ε ὐαγγέλιον. Gospel music serves many purposes such as aesthetic pleasures and religious purposes and as an entertainment product for the market. Gospel music consists of a strong harmony and Christian lyrics. Gospel music became known around the 17t h century and rooted in the black tradition. Hand clapping and foot stomping are often associated when gospel music is playing. Most of the singing during that time was a cappella in other words with no music. The first use of the term "Gospel Song "was in 1874. Some of the original gospel songs were written and composed by autho rs such as George Root, William Howard Doane and Fanny Crosby. In the slavery era many slave owners did not allow slaves to use traditional african instruments , sing or play their native music. As a result many of the words and melodies were forgotten and vanished in North America. A new style of music emerged from this limitation. The church allowed many slaves to express their feelings through gospel songs. Many slaves were not allowed to attend but met secretly anyway. • 25. Analysis Of The Film 'Joyful Noise' "Joyful Noise wraps several entertainment modes into a hot fudge Sunday sundae. It is a suspense– free singing competition drama; a down–home, just–folks bucket of cornpone; a thwarted teenage romance of sweethearts without chemistry; and a silly extended cat fight with retracted claws" claims Stephen Holden (Holden). A lot of the time, it is hard to tell what Holden really thinks about the movie between his creative insults and mysterious, slightly positive comments, but overall, the review is negative. Holden points out the movie's "minimally sketched subplots" including Vi– Rose's son with Asperger's and the background romances. He also claims there is only one instance where the audience sees the Dolly Parton they know and love, saying even the acting is subpar (Holden). Stephen Holden has a nearly blind hate towards all aspects of the movie, many of which are actually what give Joyful Noise its delightful charm and character. Holden's irrational distaste toward the film in his review is misplaced and does not accurately depict the film. The "several entertainment modes" that Holden finds so despicable are exactly what makes the film enjoyable, and the film may not be a masterpiece but the quirks are what make it humorous and touching rather than "a lower echelon of musical comedy hell" (Holden). A reviewer clearly has the right to dislike a movie; that is a critic's job. However, Holden's language in the review is totally negative and overlooks the point of the movie. As ... At first, it started with drum–based and percussion instruments made out of what was available as rocks and sticks. Our ancestors proved that human beings have an innate need of music. • 29. Religious Music Research Paper Religious music is an important way of proclaiming the Christian message. There are many different types of religious music: psalm singing, gospel music, black gospel music, and contemporary music. These types of religious share many things in common but take influences from different sources. Psalm singing was established by the English Pilgrims and the Puritans that settled in Massachusetts. These groups waned communities where they worship freely. Their worship included singing of metered and rhymed versions of the Psalms. Two methods of psalm singing were present during this time: a formal style present in the more musically literate people, and a folk–like style present in the rural, small–town places. The formal style involved learning hymns from notated music, while the folk style required learning songs by memory. Psalm singing was a major influence to American religious music. Originally, gospel music meant hymns and songs containing text related to the first four books of the New Testament rather than to the Psalms. This term came to include a large variety of hymns and songs. Gospel music became widely used in the early nineteenth century, when preachers strated a massive revival for religion. From the age of five, my parents introduced to me to one particular type of music, which was gospel and it has been a part of who I am ever since. I can remember waking up early on Sunday morning hearing gospel music from artist such as Kim Burrell, Shirley Caesar, and Mary Mary. I began learning these particular gospel songs and then I gained the courage to sing these songs in church. At that moment, I knew singing was a passion of mine and music became food to my soul. I would have to say the moment in my life where I strongly became influenced by music was as a child between the ages of five and twelve. Then when I entered middle school, I joined the school band. I played two instruments, the trombone and trumpet. Although I truly enjoyed playing those two instruments, I've always dreamed of playing the piano or violin but I never gained the opportunity to receive lessons. During the seventh grade, I joined the Needwood Middle School Choir. We sung gospel music and Christmas music during the holiday season. With gaining so much musical experience during my time in Middle School, my church appointed me to Youth Choir Director for Salem St. John Baptist Church. I once drove around town with a friend for forty minutes as we exchanged variants of, "I don't know. Where do you want to eat?" He has been playing the guitar and singing even before him and my mom even met. I remember listening to stories on how when my mom was pregnant with me, he would play music and I would kick like crazy. Because of this, music was in my blood. I felt destined to play music. Turns out music became my passion. Listening to music and eventually playing it became my everything. When I was younger I was taught how to play a few instruments. One of those being the piano. When I first started lessons, I hated it. The reasoning behind this was because of my teacher. After I found a new teacher, I became to love it. I loved it so much that I took piano lessons for five years. I would play for different events at church and during service. Despite all the time and money spent on learning how to play this instrument, I got tired of it. So I then decided to quit. Then on May 23, 2013, a package arrived at my house. It arrived in a big box and I was so excited to see what it was, I wanted to open it so badly. But I couldn't, because at my house we had a rule, if your name wasn't on the package you couldn't open it. I waited anxiously for my dad to come home so he could open the package. I was waiting around like a little kid on Christmas. Finally my dad came home. He then got his exacto knife and began cutting. It felt like he was taking forever. Once he cut it open I started throwing packing peanuts everywhere. After throwing what felt like millions of packing peanuts was another box. I lifted that box so gently, as if I was carrying a baby. I lifted the top and there it was, one of the most beautiful things I had seen. The ukulele was outlined with a beautiful jade mosaic pattern. The outer part of it and the sound hole was covered with this pattern. The ukulele itself was a tan color. It had a gloss on top which made it shine. It was so beautiful. I then picked it up and attempted to play with it, even though I had no idea what I was doing. The sound was not melodic, the sound made me want to crush it into millions of pieces. Nevertheless, most to all of these religions retain the same ideas of the existence of higher beings that are omnipotent and omniscient. In order to worship these higher beings, people that belong to a certain religion participate in rituals, religious holidays or perform traditional music that belongs to that religion. Music has the power to control the emotions and thoughts of its listeners. Furthermore, religious music is able to initiate or deepen the spiritual connection between the listener, performer, and the higher being regardless of sect. Can different genres of music that belong to various religions share similar musical or spiritual elements? Three songs that are of distinct genres and religions indeed share the theological concepts of putting all of one's faith and trust in a higher being, while seeking that entity for strength and refuge. Opponents promulgate that it nudges away the youth and it bequeaths little emotional resonance with the general congregation. The chorus takes place in the mind of the mentor, ?where did I go wrong?/I lost a friend/somewhere along in the bitterness/and I would have stayed up with you all night/had I known how to save a life.? He is, at heart, telling himself he failed to save someone because he didn?t know how. The very first line of the song the lyrics read, ?step one, you say we need to talk,? which is obviously trying to give a step–by–step detail of how someone would go about having a difficult talk with someone who may be ruining their life. The song was written to guide someone to help those in need. In an interview that Christian radio personality, Stan Friedman, had with Isaac Slade, the Fray?s lead vocalist, Friedman mentions, ?The title track to How to Save a Life recounts Slade's mentoring relationship with a teenager at a Christian halfway house who seemed hell–bent on destroying himself?but, fortunately, did not? • 51. Jesus Made In America By Stephen J. Nicholas When I was reading the book Jesus Made in America by Stephen J. Nicholas, I came across a very interesting chapter titled "Jesus on Vinyl". This chapter discussed in detail the state of the use of Jesus in contemporary music from the 1950s up to the current times. Back 3in the 1950s there were contemporary artists who putting out albums of hymns, like Johnny Cash's Hymns of Johnny Cash. Not surprisingly, the most significant time for Christian gospel music was during the hippie era in the 1960s. During that time, gospel, youth, and music had merged together into songs that preached about Christ and love. Many people became Christians during that time to protest the ongoing war in Vietnam so it would make sense that they would start to make that a main topic in the music of that time. Hippies usually referred to themselves as the Jesus People (named by Duane Pederson who was one of the leaders in Los Angeles) which led to this movement called the Jesus Movement. They claimed to not be a part of the hippie culture that they were born out of nor were they a part of the fundamental church. This caught the attention of several media outlets which drew more people do the Jesus Peoples welcoming environment. Many baptisms happened during this time, like in 1967 when Ted and Liz Wise converted four couples into becoming followers of Jesus, usually while on drugs. The people being baptized actually believed that they were being cleansed while still being intoxicated. They ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 53. Cold Mountain by Charles Frazier Essay example Cold Mountain In Charles Frazier's Cold Mountain, the theme of music is one of the novel's most powerful themes. From symbolizing character growth to the healing of physical wounds, music plays an integral part in this novel. While many critics will point out that music has little effect on the human psyche, Charles Frazier shows his belief that music does indeed have a profound effect on the human mind throughout Cold Mountain. Throughout the novel, Inman, Ada, Ruby, Stobrod, and many other characters experience music that allows them to keep faith against the odds or even heal their wounds! There are three major types of music used in this novel; hymn music, folk music, and "natural music". It is through these types of music that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But Monroe preached that they were misunderstanding the song if they fooled themselves into thinking all creation would someday love them. What it really required was for them to love all creation" (78). Monroe used the hymns of his church as a means to spread his ideas of how people ought to live their lives. This pattern is also apparent with Inman. When he meets Swimmer, a Native American, he learns of a chant that could "kill the soul of an enemy" (20). Inman cannot accept this notion because "he had been taught by sermon and hymn to hold as truth that the soul of man never dies" (20). Charles Frazier believed in the power of hymn to influence what people believed about spirituality and the soul. This parallels the historical usage of hymns in church during the Civil War as well as in today's church as a means to pass down culture. Hymn music also had the ability to strengthen the Church and to solidify the beliefs of the parishioners. There is a large disagreement over the influence of religious music over a person's beliefs. The evangelical song leaders believed that religious music moved people with no faith to a life dedicated to praising God, but people from outside the church described religious music as "cheap and tawdry" (Squire 242). According to the United Evangelical Front religious music was a way to articulate God's plan and extend the influence of religion outside of the church ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 55. Analysis Of Uncomfortable The song "Uncomfortable" by Andy Mineo is a Christian rap song that crosses many lines. Andy Mineo has been a part of the Unashamed Christian rap movement since 2011; he has released two albums previously and recently released his latest album, Uncomfortable. His inspiration for his latest album is the quote, "Good art should disturb the comfortable and comfort the disturbed," (Billboard.com). The newest album has a completely different sound than his other albums. In fact, every one of his songs on the album has a different sound. Some of the songs on the album, like the song "Uncomfortable," has multiple sounds combined into the one song. Andy uses this technique, in addition to other lyrical techniques, to make the listener uncomfortable just by listening to the song. Together, the beginning bridge and the intro, really set the scene for the rest of the song. The music in this section starts off with a smooth piano accompanied by other classical string instruments. The words in this section are sung soft and smooth to match the music. The lyrics themselves are in the perspective of someone who has recently died who spent his life listening to other people in his life constantly telling him to "live it up". However, he was still met with death, as well as the life after death. He was met with a post–mortem life that is hell because he was more obsessed with comfort than with Jesus Christ. As the song transitions from the intro and bridge into the first verse, the music makes a dramatic switch from smooth and soft to something upbeat and more trap–sounding. At this abrupt, dramatic switch, the singing fluidly changes into rap. Andy Mineo starts the verse off by commenting again on the fact that comfort is the downfall of many people. Andy also makes many scriptural references for example including the mention of the sword (of the spirit), in reference to Ephesians 6:17. Andy has other implied references such as the verse "Gotta grip that blade of the sword". Andy is saying he must check himself before he can point the sword of judgement at others (Matthew 5:7). He also comments you cannot expect to grow unless you first experience some hardships or pain. Mineo acknowledges the fact not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 57. Importance Of Biblical Worldview Wolters writes in his book, Creation Regained, that a worldview is almost essential to human beings because we cannot live without belief and guidance, which a worldview serves as (Wolters, 76). As Christians, we must have a biblical worldview, and in order to have a biblical worldview, it is critical for Christians to understand and discern structure and direction. Structure and direction are the main biblical themes, which Christians use to reform and renew every sector of their lives. I. Structure Structure is one aspect that defines an individual's worldview. Wolters defines structure as the essence of a creation that God placed in His creational law (Wolters, 682). It does not change despite human's perversity. For Christians, it is necessary to discern and understand structure since it is in all aspects of society, and it serves as a standard in all those areas. It acts as an anchor that provides definition and places boundaries and limits. As an example, a structure in government defines what it is supposed to do and places boundaries and limitations for it to run like a government, not like a school or a business. In a way, structure is God's mercy because not only does it set a limit for creations, but it also sets a limit on the enemy and prevents its dominion and bondage. Structure helps us to think about the questions in this world in a different perspective. It enables us to think in a Godly, scriptural perspective, which will serve as a guideline for us to ... • 63. Essay On Church Reflection For my second church reflection, I attended NewSpring Church. I attended the eleven o'clock service at the Greenville campus, which was located in the TD Convention Center. Since this was not the main campus, the sermon had to be watched on the screen. However, the music was live. This service had a casual and contemporary feel. Although this church is Southern Baptist, it did not have the typical Baptist feel. Everything seemed to be more casual, modern, and laid back, especially before and after the service. Interestingly, even though this service was very modern and contemporary, there was still a great lack of diversity. Their staff, volunteers, band, and pastors were very diverse, but the people attending the church were less diverse. The general demographic was made up of Caucasian families as well as many Caucasian teenagers and young adults. There were a few African Americans (the worship leader was African American), but overall there was a lack of Hispanics, Asians, and African Americans. There were certainly not very many older adults either. Interestingly, in addition to the modern atmosphere, all of the people were very casually dressed. Most of the men had shorts and t–shirts on and the women mostly had pants or shorts on as well. I do not think that there is anything wrong with this, and Newspring even states that they want you to come however you are and however you are dressed, but this is an important observation that added to the culture of the church. ... Page and L. Lavon Gray Chapter 1: Summary: In this text, Hungry for Worship, authors Frank Page and L. Gray write about the hunger for worshipping God that all leaders should possess. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They give examples from C.S. Lewis when discussing this subject. They quote Lewis with the term "Chronological snobbery". This term means that while older generations only find value in the traditions and heritage of our faith, the younger generations only find relevance in what is current. They also write this type of separation between the young and old has effectively begun dismembering the body of Christ limb by limb. The authors also put focus on the act of individual preferences through church shopping. This according to Page and Gray, result in the encouraging of churches to offer consumer–driven programming in order to keep members on their rolls. They give scripture which identifies the importance of unity. Ephesians 4:14–16 shows how the body of Christ should be unified in the midst of diversity. Leaders should work extra hard to keep the church family worshipping together. The authors condemn chronological snobbery and suggest that both the young and old come together. The young generation must grow up and the older generation needs to adapt. Analysis: The authors point out a huge problem that is alive and well in the church. Due to personal preferences, the church has separated itself from one another. Not only are different cultures separate but the age differences within the church are separated amongst themselves. Favourite Genre Analysis – Contemporary Worship Music (also known as praise and worship music) Genre description: Contemporary Christian Music is often described as praise and worship music that is pop based and often lead by a piano or guitar. It is common to find these songs in a Pentecostal church, though they are sung in a lot of western churches. This kind of music originated in the 1950s in the United States, though is currently becoming more popular around the world. The typical instruments used in Contemporary Christian Music are: vocals, electric guitar, bass guitar, acoustic guitar, drums, keyboards and synthesisers. Thus, several churches are abandoning the traditional hymns and singing more contemporary Christian music in their worship services. Researchers in church music affirm that this is happening not only in Brazil, but it is a global tendency. The problem is that some churches can easily lose their identity if those contemporary songs are not based on a solid theology and biblical principles. As an example, the current Brazilian's philosophy of congregational singing could be explained by the two philosophies of worship developed in America after Charles Finney: the conservative philosophy and the progressive philosophy. The book is divided into two sections. Section one is title Art in the Bible and section two is titled Some Perspectives on Art. Section one gives examples of art within the scriptures. This art includes things such as the patterns and details of the tabernacle and the temple, King Solomon's throne, Jesus' use of art, the poetry and music of David, other music, drama and dance. Schaeffer concludes section one with a discussion on the art detailed in the descriptions of Heaven. In section two, Schaeffer gives eleven perspectives the Christian can use to "consider and evaluate works of art" (Schaeffer 50). The first and most important listed is "A work of art has value in itself" (Schaeffer 50). This is followed by; "Art forms add strength to the world view" (Schaeffer 57), "In all forms of writing it makes a tremendous difference whether ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The one perspective that really sparked my thinking was "Christian art is by no means always religious art" (Schaeffer 88). Schaeffer explains how God created more than just religious things during creation, such as flowers, birds, etc. and that these things are worthy of being painted, photographed, wrote about, sung about, etc. Therefore, as a Christian artist, every one of our works does not have to be religious in nature. Gospel was created with a mix of sounds from the Africans and the Europeans harmony and instruments. The African slaves met secretly and used their voices to sing songs of Jesus saving them and freedom from the slave owners. "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot" which on the surface is about life in the hereafter, but any slave knew it was about the promise of life in the here and now devoid of slavery. If something is to be amoral, that means there is no possibility of it being right or wrong; it means to be neutral. So is music amoral? Many CCM (Contemporary Christian Music) artists will say that there is no right or wrong in music, therefore music cannot be good or bad for a Christian. These contemporary artists will argue that if the lyrics are okay then it doesn't matter whether or not the way it sounds is right or wrong. This is not right! Since we as Christians know that there is certainly a difference between rights and wrong, we know that must mean good music and evil music do exist.
