House On Mango Street Entrapment Theme
We all have had times where we have felt trapped, times where we have been cornered, with no escape. Times where we have felt entrapped.
Entrapment makes you feel like you have no way out or like there are no choices that can be made. In the book The House on Mango Street, the author,
Sandra Cisneros has a theme of entrapment; the theme is shown through the symbol of windows which represents freedom, something that women in
the book were not granted, the author was showing us that freedom is a privilege and not something to take for granted.
The windows show the outside world, showing you what lies beyond the four walls which you are stuck between. Many cases throughout the book
result in a woman's character being trapped and not being able to leave the house they are in. The women then result in looking out the windows only
to dream about leaving. "She looked out the window her whole life, the way so many women sit their sadness on an elbow" (11). The main
character's grandmother was trapped in her own house, her husband had stripped her of her freedom and was enable to leave. Windows are tricky, they
are sweet like honey showing you the outside world, but in the book the character, then realizes they cannot venture past them so they ... Show more

Rafaela was another character who fell victim to entrapment and couldn't leave her house, her father forbid her, so she resulted in looking out of
her window. "She throws a crumpled dollar down and always asks for coconut or sometimes papaya juice" (80). Esperanza helped Rafaela out by
getting her fruit drinks she asked for, such as coconut and papaya juice. Esperanza helped by being on the other side of the window. Windows are
wonderful, because when you are inside you are still able to see the beautiful outdoors, although most of us know that we can go outside to what lies
beyond our windows, but some people can't leave, and are just always stuck on one the wrong

Apple Vs. Microsoft Computers
Apple vs Microsoft computers
Which brand is better, Apple's Mac computers or Microsoft's window computers? Both are huge technology motivators in our era. The two companies
are constantly battling each other with their products. While most common users buy a computer that 's mainstream or popular don't seem to realize
which computer is really best for them. Here we will talk about which computer is best for one by hardware, operating system, and software.
Although some people think Apple's computer hardware is the flagship of computers , people underestimate the price and power of Microsoft's
Windows computers. Now hardware of a Computer is and consists of Random access memory (ram),Central processing unit (CPU), Graphics card
(GPU), and data storage. Hardware defines how fast your computer is , now let 's find out which is more convenient for a user. So here we have a Mac
Pro for three thousand dollars. It has 12 Gigabytes of RAM, a Quad Core CPU at the speed of 3.5Ghz (gigahertz), 2 AMD D300 graphic cards , along
with 256 Gigabyte Solid state Hard Drive (storage). On the other hand we have a Windows ABS berserker computer for eight hundred dollars. It has
16 gigabytes of RAM , an eight core processor at the speed of 3.5ghz, a r9 380x graphics card , and 2 terabytes (2,000 Gigabytes) of a regular hard disk
memory, with an addition of a 256 gigabyte solid state Hard Drive for eighty dollars. Now if we look at a benchmark chart of the two , we see the

Microsoft's Operating Systems And Security Features
Microsoft Windows has evolved into an operating system that is very reliable and dependable when it comes to getting task done on a daily basis
when a computer system is needed. "In 1975, Gates and Allen form a partnership called Microsoft. Like most start–ups, Microsoft begins small, but has
a huge vision–a computer on every desktop and in every home" (Microsoft.com). In this paper I will discuss the history of Microsoft's Operating
systems and security features available during each stage of advancement over the years. In 1980 MSDOS was created which was used to be able to
execute programs but there was a learning curve when it came to the commands that was needed to navigate around the operating system. Security
and virus protection was not thought of during this time because a typical infection we are use of in todays world was less effective during the
beginning of the Windows OS and the Internet was not a factor. MSDOS was a wide–open system where anybody could access and edit any file.
Windows 1.0 was released in 1985 and added a interface feel to the operating system which made it easier for users to navigate. Now, rather than
typing MS‑DOS commands, you just move a mouse to point and click your way through screens, or "windows." Bill Gates says, "It is unique
software designed for the serious PC user" (Microsoft.com). "In Microsoft's official history of Windows, it recounts that Windows 1.0 shipped with
"several programs, including MS–DOS file management,

Analysis Of Bill Gates And Paul Allen
When it comes to the term "revolution" we probably don't often associate a company like Microsoft for initiating significant changes to our lives or the
way we live them. Nonetheless, Bill Gates and his team of "techies" have brought about a revolution of change in the field of technology, particularly
the Windows operating system. Microsoft has changed the way we use computers and they have incorporated themselves into nearly every aspect of
our lives. We use Microsoft or programs created by them every day without ever thinking of what the world would be like without their
technology. Microsoft was founded in 1975 by the iconic Bill Gates and Paul Allen. By 1980, it was clear the Microsoft was a little company with
a big dream. It took many years of trial and error for Bill Gates and his team to make Microsoft the company it is today. Over the course of 30 or so
years, they have invested trillions of dollars to give us the technology we now possess, and that's not even including the salaries of their employees.
Sure, Microsoft wasn't an overnight sensation like some companies, but they made a name for themselves by stepping out on a ledge and being the best
that they could be. I remember when the Internet became the latest and greatest thing, but that surely didn't happen overnight either. By the time the
Internet rolled around in the 90's, there was still a mass percentage of the world that still had yet to lay eyes on, let alone touch, a computer. My father

The Effect Of The Mouse And Gui On Society And Business
The Affect of the Mouse and GUI on Society and Business
How the Mouse and GUI Enabled Other Technologies
The rapid proliferation of computers has made both our social and business world more and more convenient. Although the first modern significant kind
of computer was introduced the world in the 1940s, the major event which has changed the history of human– computer interaction was the advent of
the graphical user interface at Xerox PARC in the 1970s. Along with a pointing device, typically a mouse, users are able to point to parts of the display.
With the GUI which makes the interface to the computer primarily a visual medium, the virtual world inside the computer is portrayed graphically on
the display. According to Shneiderman's the future of interactive systems and the emergence of direct manipulation [1] in 1982, he describes the GUI
paradigm as "direct manipulation", which is a breakthrough.
At the same time, under the influences of GUI and mouse development, multiple technology devices are showing up for the world to use and
changing the way of doing things in both social and business life. For example, ATM systems are available for 24/7 banking, self–check–out systems
are in many supermarkets and self–check–in systems are at airports in addition to online purchasing and home delivery available both major and niche
retailers. Based on GUI, these systems have had a tremendous influence on modern business bringing convenience and efficiency to both customers and

Richard Wilbur 's Boy At The Window
War has changed many people 's lives, including Richard Wilbur. Richard is a poet who was in the U.S. army in World War II. According to the
Poetry Foundation, the war influenced his poetry. He was born in 1912 in New York City and won the Pulitzer Prize two times and won many
other awards, such as the Wallace Stevens award. One poem Richard Wilbur wrote was "Boy at the Window". This poem is about a boy looking out
a window at a snowman, but the young boy does not quite understand why the snowman has to suffer out in the cold. The theme of the poem is as
one grows older they will start to understand the world more. This relates to Richard's experience in the war. Richard was young when he went into
the war and he had many fears that he could not understand before going into the war. In the poem, "Boy at the Window", by Richard Wilbur, he
shows a central idea of misunderstanding which shows the theme of as one grows older they will start to understand the world more by the context,
literary devices, and mood in the poem.
In the poem, "Boy at the Window", the first way that the theme of as one grows older they will start to understand the world more is shown in the
context of the poem. An example of how the context of the poem helped to show is by the quote in line 1, "Seeing the snowman standing all alone"
(Wilbur). This quote is talking about a little boy looking out the window at the snowman. It helps to explain the theme because he is young and does

A Window Of Your Dreams
A Window To Your Dreams
In J.M. Barrie's classic children's story Peter Pan, a young boy named Peter takes three children on the adventure of their dreams in a faraway place
called Neverland. The story, revolving around how "all children, except one, grow up" (1) takes the reader back to mindsets of children and their
elaborate fantasies that might actually be true if they could only remember. With sword fights between pirates, fairy dust, flying away from home
right out the window and death being only "an awfully big adventure" (113), not many can see how they would ever forget such a place, but by
keeping their windows open and unlocked, any child can enter Neverland through their dreams. Barrie's use of the window isn't simply an entrance
or exit way for Peter, it represents the blurred line between a child's dreams and reality, how the trust of a mother's love can be the best form of hope,
and how every child should cherish their years of youth and innocence when they can fly to Neverland and not be brought down by age.
According to Barrie's Peter Pan, every child's mind flies into their own personal Neverland at night, and sometimes, the lands can be breached when
a window is open. Children have a way to keep this window open for the possibility of their dreams to come true, while adult's windows are kept shut
due to age and therefore, losing the ability to travel to their Neverland. Every child's mind has access to a map consisting of "zigzag lines...probably

The Forest Of Gombe By Jane Goodall
"In the Forest of Gombe" by Jane Goodall describes her own perspective of the correlation between religions and science through her experiences in
the forest at Gombe where she finds comforting to recover from the loss of her husband. Developed several new concepts regarding life, Goodall
comes up with the idea of the coexistence of science and religion. Agreeing with Goodall, however, the windows that Goodall sees through have no
drawbacks.
"Taught as s scientist", Goodall is trained "to think logically and empirically" (145). As a scientist, Goodall is supposed to be logical and not
affected by personal or emotional factors. At Cambridge College, "those who believed in god kept it hidden from peers" (145). Even though her
"beliefs had already been molded as that she was not influenced by these opinions" (145), she also has to keep he religion as a secret out of the
pressure. When Goodall's husband passed away, she was devastated and she "rejected God" for a while because she was mad at fate and God she
undoubtedly believes in for taking her beloved husband away from her. She thus went to the forest to seek comfort. There, she enjoyed the serenity of
the nature, the beauty of the world and the unity of everything on this planet.
Goodall's faith is renewed when she sees the world through the new windows she discovered in the forest. She is accustomed to think separately, in a
scientific and religious way. However, during her time at the forest, she realizes how the two

On The Leveling Of The World Is Flat By Thomas Friedman
THE FLATTENING OF THE WORLD Technological advancements are held accountable for contributing to the flattening of the world. Thomas L.
Friedman, a journalist and the author of The World Is Flat, used the word "flat" to convey the leveling of the economic and social playing fields.
Friedman declared that the initial factor that flattened the world was "when the walls came down, and the windows went up." The wall that Friedman
was referencing in his statement was the Berlin Wall. Once the Berlin Wall came down, government control over the economy became very limited.
The windows that Friedman was referring to were Microsoft Windows. Months after the fall of the Berlin wall, Microsoft presented Windows to the

Evolution Of Windows: The Evolution Of Windows
The Evolution of Windows
Background
On the 10th November 1983 Microsoft founders Paul Allen and Bill Gates announced their company's next generation graphic user interface
operating system (OS). Windows OS was launched in 1985 by Microsoft and since then it has been the most popular OS available on the market,
overtaking its competitor Mac OS which launched in 1984. The main advantage of the Windows OS was its user friendly nature. It was the beginning
of a new era for OS technology as it allowed the average user to access the PC without any complexities. (Bellis 2007)
Windows 1.0
The first Windows OS was Windows 1.0. This interface allowed users to use their mouse to navigate through different a number of screens or

On the 9th December Microsoft Windows 2.0 was released. New features included desktop icons and extra hard drive memory. Designed for the
Intel 286 processor Windows 2.0 provided an increase in speed reliability and usability. The graphics support also improved meaning that windows
were now able to overlap and the user had greater control over the layout of the screen. By 1988 computers were growing in popularity and becoming
more commonplace in offices. (A History of Windows 2014)
Windows 3.0 and 3.1
Windows 3.0 was announced in May 1990 followed by the swift release of Windows 3.1 in 1992. This became the most widely used Windows OS
yet, selling 10 million copies in its first two years, again underlying the increase in use and demand of the PC. This particular OS provided
significantly better performance. Improved graphics provided the allowance for 16 different colours and icons. Fully supported by the Intel 386
processor, there was a notable increase in program speed. (A History of Windows 2014)
Windows NT 3.1
In 1993 a 32–bit OS that supported high–end engineering and scientific programs was developed. Known as Windows NT 3.1 it was described by Bill
Gates at its release as "nothing less than a fundamental change in the way companies can address their business computing requirements." (A History

The Forest Of Gombe By Jane Goodall
"In the Forest of Gombe" by Jane Goodall, Goodall describes her own perspectives of the correlation between religions and science through her
experiences in the forest at Gombe after she loses her husband to cancer. She comes up with several new concepts which she calls windows during her
time in the forest. Goodall develops the idea of the coexistence of science and religion for her deeper understanding of life and the world. I agree with
her which the windows that Goodall sees through have no drawbacks because the windows enrich her scientific and religious thinking, represent the
combination of science and religion as well as inspires ideas about future development. To begin with, the windows are beneficial because they can
help understand the world more profoundly in a scientific way. Goodall's view is renewed when she sees the world through the new windows she
discovered in the forest. The scientific window allows her to "see ever farther, ever more clearly, into areas which until recently were beyondhuman
knowledge" (Goodall 148). This implies the new sight that the windows have opened for herself as well as her study. Her thoughts and knowledge
are refreshed by the scientific window that the forest unfolds to her. The window broadens her horizon by presenting a world of larger scale with
more innovative ideas and discoveries. She considers that window not only in favor of her years of study in chimpanzees, but also "help people

Rear Window, By Alfred Hitchcock And The Last Laugh
The films Rear Window, directed by Alfred Hitchcock, and The Last Laugh, directed by Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau, both feature protagonists going
through change, for better or for worse. Rear Window features L.B. 'Jeff' Jefferies, a professional photographer who is stuck in his wheelchair, in his
apartment, because of an accident he had while on the job. The Last Laugh features a hotel doorman that gets demoted to a lesser job, who then
undergoes a psychological change. Both films use elements of mise–en–scene to show how the protagonists adapt and change to their confinement and
isolation. The use of the set, framing, and motifs of doors and windows in both films emphasizes the idea of the protagonists dealing with change, from
freedom to confinement and isolation.
In Rear Window, the set is used show the freedom Jeff had before he was confined to his apartment. During the opening scene, the camera pans over
and zooms out – through the window – from the other apartment onto Jeff. The opening scene is significant because it demonstrates how Jeff confines
himself to his apartment; instead, he could be outside venturing in his wheelchair, despite his disability. Also, the set only consists of the apartment
across from Jeff, and his own apartment, while there are several of buildings looming in the background. This segment of the setting, Jeff's apartment
and the one across from him, suggests that the set is very enclosed and restricted of freedom; for no other areas of the

Marcel Duchamp Fresh Widow Essay
Marcel Duchamp's Fresh Widow was created in 1920, and is on display at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). Fresh Widow is a bluish green
miniature French window, which he constructed with wood and leather. The Fresh Widow is considered to be a part of the Dadaist period and retains
qualities of dadaism in that it is a stand alone object, that has been completely stripped of its utility and function. In addition, across the window sill,
Duchamp wrote "COPYRIGHT" in capitalized black letters referring to the classic dadaist rejection of the commodification or reproduction of art.
Duchamp created the Fresh Widow two years after the end of World War I. World War I was traumatizing and horrific for most of Europe, with
millions of men being killed. The timing of Duchamp's Fresh Widow, the title, as well as the form of his piece all work together to represent the
losses felt by wives in France during the war. The use of a French window that has been blacked out by black leather, as well as the bluish–green color
of the wood is a reference to the macabre realities of war and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Following World War I, widows were abundant. Duchamp's piece illustrates the grief stricken emotional and deadened vision widows had after the
war when their wounds were ripe and unable to be restrained. The widow is much like Duchamp's window– impenetrable and unreadable. The viewer
cannot see the vision of the widow because the widow herself cannot she her own vision. Much like the inability of the viewer to look through the
glass, the widow cannot look to somewhere else, to a different place. The viewer is left with an intimate bond with the widow, experiencing her
inability to create a vision but is also left at a distance from the widow because of the viewer's inability to read her emotions and thought processes.
The widow is draped in a veil of mourning and sadness much like the window is covered by black

major influence throughout American history and how it has shaped the interactions of difference cultures, races and ethnicities by characterizing
drinking as "conflict between coexisting value structures" (98). Simmel's ideas about the core differences between dyads and triads was applied in the

Your Assumptions Are Your Windows On The World Summary
"Your assumptions are your windows on the world. Scrub them off every once in awhile, or the light won't come in." Isaac Asiman describes an
assumption in a visual way. When people make an assumption, their view of the world becomes dimmer and darker. The window will get more
tainted and the outside world won't be as clear as it used to be. Their windows will be completely dark until all they can see is their reflections
staring back at them with wondering eyes. The individual has been so sure of themselves that they didn't realize the world was slipping away into a
dimming light. Now, all they are left with is darkness. Everyone has been pushed away by that individual's vision of how things are ought to be. It's
until that they see their own reflection do they see that the world has closed off. For the light to reappear in their life again, the person will have to see

Broken Window Fallacy: An Analysis Of Hazlitt's Story
The broken window fallacy is a belief that something has to be broken or destroyed to stimulate the economy. In Hazlitt's story, a young boy
breaks a bakery's window. The bystanders think that that what the boy did is good for the village's community. They believe that it would help the
glazier because the baker will go to him to repair his window. However, this is not the case. The window does not have to be broken to trigger the
community's economy. The bystanders from Hazlitt's story who believe that it is good to break the bakery's window are wrong. Sure, the broken
window is beneficial to the glazier, but for the baker, it is not. He lost the money that could have been spent to something else. Even if we say that
those bystanders just see the good in a bad situation, their reasoning is still wrong. To stimulate the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I also believe that there are people nowadays who think that a calamity will bring fortune to a community, especially the economy. Maybe they
just see the good in bad just like the bystanders but what they don't recognize is the unseen costs and unseen profits behind the adversity. The
bystanders on Hazlitt's story only see the benefit of the broken window to the glazier. Yes, the glazier will benefit from the payment of the baker to
repair his window. However, the baker lost some of his profit just to repair his window and it is not even his fault why it got broken. He has to
spend a fortune to fix it because of a young boy and bystanders think that it is good. If the community thinks that their economy would benefit from a
broken window, then it would be ok for them if someone burns the whole village. Everything would be gone. However, there would be a lot of things
to repair and rebuild that would stimulate their economy, like what they want. Burning the whole village would bring more money than the broken
window so it makes perfectly sense if someone does it. But obviously this is

Reading Characters In Walter Dean Myers's 'Bad Boy'
Reading characters as windows is better because it allows one to get a look into different people's lives. When a character in a book is a window it
is so easy to learn about the character's life and how it differs from my own. As a reader this lets you see life in a whole new manor. When you read
about lives that are different from your own you start to think about what someone had to go through compared to you. Characters that are windows
will help the reader make a connection and reflect on the situations the characters are in. In the memoir, Bad Boy, by Walter Dean Myers, the author
describes his life growing up as a poor young African American. Walter comes to realize that the racial struggles that surround him will mean he will
have to overcome many obstacles in his life to succeed. Walter had to go through many tragedies and hardships in his life... Show more content on

worthless and not manly. Walter's world is vastly different from mine. Growing up here in Westport, academic success is not only expected but
desired. Comparing the differences in Walter's environment to mine allows me to have empathy towards the struggles he had to overcome as a young
man. As I read the character as a window, I thought more about the harsh environments that exist around the world where young children struggle.
Reading characters as windows, is better because it truly allows the reader to learn about others and how their worlds are different from their own.

JS Browser BOM Introduction
Window and Browser
What is a browser? When you open a browser what do you see? The browser has many parts such as menus, status bar, page itself to name a few.
Collectively, these parts are called Browser Object Model. These different objects can be accessed by JavaScript.
Window is the browser. There are other objects under window. These objects allow you to access all HTML objects on the page, redirect the user to
another page, get browser window size to name a few.
BOM (Browser Object Model)
BOM stands for Browser Object Model. As the name suggests, it is used to communicate with the browser. BOM does not have any set specific
standards therefore there is no standard for implementation. The browser vendors are free to implement BOM any way they want.
The browser views the window as a collection of objects. For example, when a browser encounters a document, it creates a collection of objects that
define that object and detail how it should be displayed. As we have already learnt, this object is called Document Object Model (DOM). Similarly there
are other objects that the browser makes use of. These are collectively called Browser Object Model (BOM).
BOM is a group of objects that allow control of the browser.
The window object is the browser. The other objects defined under windows are:

Windows 10 : Positive And Negative Perspective
Everything in this world has a positive and negative perspective no matter what it is. Upgrades are a great thing for any type of software or technology
throughout this essay I will try to convey the pros and cons of windows 10 as well as the positive perspective of this new upgraded software for
windows. In just the first few weeks of Windows 10 being available for the public it was downloaded millions of times by countless people. The new
windows 10 is not like any of its predecessors such as windows 7 or 8 it is full of new features like never before it truly seems like it was built from
the ground up. Just to point out a few examples of what is new in windows ten that it previous software did not have is "fast Internet Explorer
replacement called Edge; Microsoft 's Siri–like voice–controlled virtual assistant, Cortana; and the ability to stream real–time games to your desktop
from an Xbox One in another room" (CNET.com). These are all great advancements to this software, which is why so many people are switching
to this new software. Another feature that is also very big and popular on this new software is the multiple virtual desktops windows so that way if
you just click one button you are able to see multiple windows of what you are doing for example, if you have you internet app open and word app
open as well with just a simple click of a button you are able to see both screens of both apps at the same time. I feel like that is a very nifty tool to

he had influenced the most was Steve Ballmer, current Microsoft's Chief Executive Officer, whose room was down the hall from Bill's.

He was the second billionaire of his time. Just like Henry Ford, his main motivation was to create a product that would be used by everyone
around the world, and positively change the way people compute; he explains in his biography, "Guided by a belief that the personal computer
would be a valuable tool on every office desktop and in every home, they began developing software for personal computers. " This was a huge step up
from the weak, and commonly used Mac OS, which was released by Apple Computers earlier. Over a short period of time, Microsoft's new product
became very popular for its simplicity in operation. Millions of people around the world decided to switch to Microsoft Windows. The sudden
change from Mac OS to Windows was incredible. Bill Gates' product became such an important tool to businesses, homes, and schools. His foresights
in the change of the computer industry were a large part of his success, "Gates' foresight and vision regarding personal computing have been central to
the success of Microsoft and the software industry. "
Microsoft was able to knock out all of its competitors easily. Bill Gates' strategy was to promote all of his products together. For example, he would
attach Internet Explorer to Microsoft Windows, which was his top selling product. The majority of computer users around the world used Microsoft
Windows, leaving a door open. It is said that they are able to buy out all of their competitors and

Doomsday: Windows XP End of Support
Doomsday, the beginning of the end, there are many words which can describe what is to come from the end of support for one of the most widely
used Computer Operating Systems in the world; windows XP. The software was introduced almost twelve years ago, and it still remains relevant, and
regarded highly by many today ("A History of Windows"). With the announcement of software giantMicrosoft's end of support date, those using the

Now twelve years after the October release of Windows XP, there is a crisis in the computer world. The operating system was very popular, and so
widely adapted over the years that most companies are still using it to this very day (Wolpe, "Windows XP: One Year to Go but Is It Already Too
Late to Move?"). For example a survey on what percentage of computers still run Windows XP was conducted on information technology
departments across the United Kingdom (Wolpe, "End of XP Support: Why so Many CIOs Are Still Not Ready"). The results yielded a staggering
40 percent of desktop computers are still running XP, which is almost half of all of the corporate computer systems in the United Kingdom (Wolpe,
"End of XP Support: Why so Many CIOs Are Still Not Ready")! Why is it so devastating if Windows XP goes out of support? Spyware, malware,
computer viruses will all likely infect machines running the operating system without any hesitation ("What does it mean if Windows isn't
supported?"). This is due in part to Microsoft no longer sending out security patches, which are basically updates that protect the computer from new
threats being produced ("What does it mean if Windows isn't supported?"). For consumers that are using XP at home on personal machines, this means
that the computer can become susceptible to an infection, and personal

The Pc And Its Operating Systems
The PC and its Operating Systems The information technology field is a field that covers a vast amount of technologies and ideas that have evolved
to be much more than what they were during the infancy of the technology movement. Perhaps the greatest innovator and most recognizable face of
the field is Bill Gates, the creator of the Windows operating system. Windows revolutionized the way the public interacted with their personal
computers and catapulted the devices into the majority of American's homes. Running counter to Windows, and taking a completely open source route
for ease of access and distribution is Windows rival Linux. Linux has a very different approach to how the PC should operate and had a number of
different versions that are tailored to individual user's needs. All of these different operating systems have at least one thing in common however. The
ability to run on a personal computer. The personal computer, or PC, the personal computer is a general–purpose computer that make it useful for
individuals and are intended to be operated by an end user. Bill Gates was born October 28th, 1955 in Seattle, Washington. Gates showed an early
interest in the world of computing, writing his first software program at age 13 and helping a group of programmers computerize their schools payroll
system ("Encyclopedia Brittanica"). Taking his love and interest for the world of computing even further, Gates created his first company Traf–O–Data

Computers Have An Operating System
Operating system All computers have an operating system (OS). An OS is very important because it controls the computer's resources, such as its
hardware and software. Many computer programs need an operating system to be able to work. An operating system is what basically makes a
computer work properly. These are major functions of an operating system: Read and write data Allocate main memory Perform memory swapping
Start and stop programs Respond to error conditions Facilitate backup and recovery Types of operating systems Single– and multi–tasking In a
single–tasking system you can only run one program at a time, while in a multi–tasking operating system you can run more than one program at a time.
Single– and multi–user In a single–user operating systems there is no way you can differentiate the user, but you can run multiple programs at the

Communication In Julie And Julia, By Nora Ephron

preconceived notions we may block off all lines of communication that disrupt our expectations. Even so these efforts may all be in vain, sometimes the
outside world infiltrates our private world. Most abruptly through the adoption of phones. They serve as lines of constant communication to the outside
world, and therefore sources of information as Nora Ephron exposes in her film. In one scene from "Julie and Julia," Julia is sitting in a chair and the

Good Replacement Window Analysis
What are good replacement windows? That is an excellent question, and one many people try to answer before they go to a showroom or schedule a
home consultation with a replacement window dealer on the island. There are so many factors that go into evaluating what makes a good replacement
window, it is hard to cover everything in one blog post. That's one of the reasons we published our free, 28–page replacement window guide for Long
Island residents. However, there are four key factors that drive replacement window performance. This Renewal by Andersen post will cover those
key drivers to hopefully help you get a better understanding of what to look forward in your quests for high–quality fixtures for your home.

If you're looking for the highest energy–efficiency ratings, look at double–hung, casements and fixed windows. Here's why we recommend those three
options for Long Island homeowners.
Double–hung windows have two movable sash – one slides up, and the other lowers for ventilation. They are very popular in our area and work well
in virtually every home style from colonial ranch to cod.
Casement windows are the most energy–efficient operable window we offer. The compression closure design means less friction on weather–stripping
than windows that slide across air and moisture blocking insulation. Crank–type windows may need some minor maintenance to keep the fixtures
opening smoothly and/or remediate problems with sealants weakening after many years of service.
Fixed windows have permanent seals and no movable parts that may eventually develop leaks over time with daily use. Fixed windows also offer
Long Island homeowners other advantages when it comes to creating beautiful curb appeal. For example, they can be built in almost any shape from
square and boxy, to attention drawing geometric shapes like triangles, trapezoids and

friends and become the place to meet new friends. People that have not connected in years reconnect. However a problem in this new social world
is the applications that are addicting. There are "places", games, as in Yoville, Farmville, My Town and many more that become addictive and steal
family time and reality away. People have even had to seek addiction help because of these social games. The popular television personality Dr. Phil
has had a Farmville addict on his television program to help her see where she is neglecting her children and family. Another problem is the chat

Windows And Windows Operating System
Windows has become a household name. The company logo is familiar to almost everyone across the world. This revolutionary company has played a
major role in the current technology explosion. Windows was one of the first affordable operating systems that enabled computers to be more widely
available. Many changes and updates have been made to the Windows operating system to keep Microsoft at the top of its market.
The history of Windows dates back to 1975 when Bill Gates and Paul Allen founded a partnership called Microsoft. They had a monumental vision
that there would be a computer on every desktop and in every home (Microsoft, Era 0, para 2). Microsoft rewrote a previously purchased operating
system to support subdirectories and hard disks naming it MS–DOS (Software Gems, para 3–5). This is short for Microsoft Disk Operating System.
MS–DOS was an effective foundation that ran the personal computer. However, it was difficult for users to master. Specific commands required
memorization.
To combat the frustration caused by MS–DOS, Microsoft released Windows 1.0 in 1983. Windows 1.0 was introduced as "unique software designed
for the serious PC user" (Microsoft, Era 1, para 2) by Bill Gates. Windows 1.0 enabled users to maneuver a mouse to point and click versus typing in
difficult to remember commands. This was not, however, the first operating system to use the point and click technology. The low price is what really

Operating Systems And Operating System
Operating Systems Every computer needs an operating system to operate. The operating system controls everything that the computer does, the
master controller. It is the gasoline of the computer. According to Parsons and Oja (2014), they state that an operating system is "the integral part
of virtually every computer system. It fundamentally affects how you can use your computer" (p 184). Most computers are bought with the
operating system already installed. Once the computer is turned on, the operating system does a "check" of the system, which includes the
hardware of peripheral devices attached. Once the check is complete, the operating system is loaded into the ROM of the computer. There are
several different operating systems that can run a computer system. Just like software, the operating system has been upgraded to perfection over
the years. Back in the earlier years of computers, there was only one operating system. This was the well known , Disk Operating System, also
known as DOS. Looking back, DOS was a complicated operating system. Once a computer was turned on, you would see a flashing MS DOS:.
This was its way of telling you, that it is ready for its next command. This is when you had to rely on the book. Because it did not provide you with
an on screen list of what you could do from there. You had to specifically type in the command, of what you wanted to do next. However, the life of
the computer changed forever with the birth of

Diving : A Window Of An Unexplored World
DIVING: A Window to an Unexplored World Mankind has always been very curious about the ocean and its secrets. In the past centuries,
countless numbers of inventions and experiments have been made in an attempt to maximize the time that a person can stay underwater. Thanks
to a device called the aqualung, invented in 1943 by Jacques Cousteau, people were able to dive down and explore the ocean with his/her own air
source without the need to be connected to an air source at the surface. Eventually, this lead to the formation of a subculture around the sport, with
many divers around the world exploring the world's oceans. There are many reasons to be a part of this subculture. I interviewed Luke Inman, a
successful Instructor Trainer for the Professional Association of Dive Instructors, and an avid filmmaker and photographer who constantly works
with the BBC, Discovery Networks, National Geographic, & Animal Planet, and after asking him what rituals or practices a person must do to
become part of this subculture, he answered: "You have to have a love for the ocean, you have to love fish". You also need to take a Scuba course.
This course is called an Open Water Diver course (or OWD for short); this will be the diver's first certification. It teaches you about atmospheric
pressure, how your body is affected underwater, the risks of diving, and how easy they are to evade by following simple procedures. After the diver
gets certified as an open water diver, he or she may want to

Essay on Asher Lev and The Window
Looking Beyond the Glass Could humiliation and pain come from something as simple as a glass in a wooden frame? Throughout the novel, My
Name Is Asher Lev by Chiam Potok, much of inner characters are revealed through the symbol of the window. The mother, the father, and Asher all
face many struggles and the use of the window helps one to understand them. To begin with, themother, Rivkeh, is shown a great deal by the window.
Potok writes, "About an hour after supper, it began to snow heavily. My mother and I stood at the living–room window, watching for my father. 'I hate
this,' my mother murmured, staring out the window" (79–80). This expresses the worry that she has for her husband, Aryeh, and his journey back

The father's troubles are also shown through the symbol of the window. Aryeh spends a great deal of time traveling for theRebbe. In book one, "He

desks, Asher.' He rubbed the side of his face, 'I should be there, not here'" (26–27). This shows how the window is a barrier for his father. Aryeh thinks
that he should not be behind it, but instead, out helping people and continuing to travel for the Rebbe. Also in book one, Potok writes, "He stood
looking through the window at the street outside, quietly singing his father's melody... He held his hands to both sides of his head. Standing there,
with the room in shadows and his faintly illumined features reflected in the window that looked out onto the dark street..." (15). As well as a
barrier, the window also serves as a passage way to the master of the universe. To show the passage way again, Potok says, "He was standing in front
of the window chanting softly from the Book of Psalms" (26). For the father, the window is ultimately a way out of the apartment into the religious
world. Many of Asher's characteristics are exposed through the window as well. When Asher is on the train with Jacob Kahn, he sees his reflection in
the window. He tells that, "I spent the rest of the journey looking at my reflection in that dark window of the

Coffee Daily: Windows to the World
People all over the world wake up to a cup of coffee but is this harmful or beneficial? Research shows that the pros to coffee, at responsible amounts
per day, outweigh the cons or negative effects of coffee and even have the same effects as medicines given over the counter at pharmacy or even
prescribed by a pharmacist. Many people just drink coffee without even knowing the location of where coffee began but this can be very crucial to the
understanding to finding the benefits of coffee.
"In the Ethiopian highlands, where the legend of Kaldi, the goatherd, originated, coffee trees grow today as they have for centuries. Though we will
never know with certainty, there probably is some truth to the Kaldi legend. It is said that he discovered coffee after noticing that his goats, upon
eating berries from a certain tree, became so spirited that they did not want to sleep at night. Kaldi dutifully reported his findings to the abbot of the
local monastery who made a drink with the berries and discovered that it kept him alert for the long hours of evening prayer. As word moved east and
coffee reached the Arabian peninsula, it began a journey which would spread its reputation across the globe." ("The History Of Coffee")
Lots of benefits that come from coffee come from the caffeine such as giving you energy to stay awake just like the Kaldi in the story ,but caffeine

House On Mango Street Entrapment Theme

  • 1. House On Mango Street Entrapment Theme We all have had times where we have felt trapped, times where we have been cornered, with no escape. Times where we have felt entrapped. Entrapment makes you feel like you have no way out or like there are no choices that can be made. In the book The House on Mango Street, the author, Sandra Cisneros has a theme of entrapment; the theme is shown through the symbol of windows which represents freedom, something that women in the book were not granted, the author was showing us that freedom is a privilege and not something to take for granted. The windows show the outside world, showing you what lies beyond the four walls which you are stuck between. Many cases throughout the book result in a woman's character being trapped and not being able to leave the house they are in. The women then result in looking out the windows only to dream about leaving. "She looked out the window her whole life, the way so many women sit their sadness on an elbow" (11). The main character's grandmother was trapped in her own house, her husband had stripped her of her freedom and was enable to leave. Windows are tricky, they are sweet like honey showing you the outside world, but in the book the character, then realizes they cannot venture past them so they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rafaela was another character who fell victim to entrapment and couldn't leave her house, her father forbid her, so she resulted in looking out of her window. "She throws a crumpled dollar down and always asks for coconut or sometimes papaya juice" (80). Esperanza helped Rafaela out by getting her fruit drinks she asked for, such as coconut and papaya juice. Esperanza helped by being on the other side of the window. Windows are wonderful, because when you are inside you are still able to see the beautiful outdoors, although most of us know that we can go outside to what lies beyond our windows, but some people can't leave, and are just always stuck on one the wrong ... • 2. Apple Vs. Microsoft Computers Apple vs Microsoft computers Which brand is better, Apple's Mac computers or Microsoft's window computers? Both are huge technology motivators in our era. The two companies are constantly battling each other with their products. While most common users buy a computer that 's mainstream or popular don't seem to realize which computer is really best for them. Here we will talk about which computer is best for one by hardware, operating system, and software. Although some people think Apple's computer hardware is the flagship of computers , people underestimate the price and power of Microsoft's Windows computers. Now hardware of a Computer is and consists of Random access memory (ram),Central processing unit (CPU), Graphics card (GPU), and data storage. Hardware defines how fast your computer is , now let 's find out which is more convenient for a user. So here we have a Mac Pro for three thousand dollars. It has 12 Gigabytes of RAM, a Quad Core CPU at the speed of 3.5Ghz (gigahertz), 2 AMD D300 graphic cards , along with 256 Gigabyte Solid state Hard Drive (storage). On the other hand we have a Windows ABS berserker computer for eight hundred dollars. It has 16 gigabytes of RAM , an eight core processor at the speed of 3.5ghz, a r9 380x graphics card , and 2 terabytes (2,000 Gigabytes) of a regular hard disk memory, with an addition of a 256 gigabyte solid state Hard Drive for eighty dollars. Now if we look at a benchmark chart of the two , we see the Windows machine is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Microsoft's Operating Systems And Security Features Microsoft Windows has evolved into an operating system that is very reliable and dependable when it comes to getting task done on a daily basis when a computer system is needed. "In 1975, Gates and Allen form a partnership called Microsoft. Like most start–ups, Microsoft begins small, but has a huge vision–a computer on every desktop and in every home" (Microsoft.com). In this paper I will discuss the history of Microsoft's Operating systems and security features available during each stage of advancement over the years. In 1980 MSDOS was created which was used to be able to execute programs but there was a learning curve when it came to the commands that was needed to navigate around the operating system. Security and virus protection was not thought of during this time because a typical infection we are use of in todays world was less effective during the beginning of the Windows OS and the Internet was not a factor. MSDOS was a wide–open system where anybody could access and edit any file. Windows 1.0 was released in 1985 and added a interface feel to the operating system which made it easier for users to navigate. Now, rather than typing MS‑DOS commands, you just move a mouse to point and click your way through screens, or "windows." Bill Gates says, "It is unique software designed for the serious PC user" (Microsoft.com). "In Microsoft's official history of Windows, it recounts that Windows 1.0 shipped with "several programs, including MS–DOS file management, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Analysis Of Bill Gates And Paul Allen When it comes to the term "revolution" we probably don't often associate a company like Microsoft for initiating significant changes to our lives or the way we live them. Nonetheless, Bill Gates and his team of "techies" have brought about a revolution of change in the field of technology, particularly the Windows operating system. Microsoft has changed the way we use computers and they have incorporated themselves into nearly every aspect of our lives. We use Microsoft or programs created by them every day without ever thinking of what the world would be like without their technology. Microsoft was founded in 1975 by the iconic Bill Gates and Paul Allen. By 1980, it was clear the Microsoft was a little company with a big dream. It took many years of trial and error for Bill Gates and his team to make Microsoft the company it is today. Over the course of 30 or so years, they have invested trillions of dollars to give us the technology we now possess, and that's not even including the salaries of their employees. Sure, Microsoft wasn't an overnight sensation like some companies, but they made a name for themselves by stepping out on a ledge and being the best that they could be. I remember when the Internet became the latest and greatest thing, but that surely didn't happen overnight either. By the time the Internet rolled around in the 90's, there was still a mass percentage of the world that still had yet to lay eyes on, let alone touch, a computer. My father was, at the ... • 5. The Effect Of The Mouse And Gui On Society And Business The Affect of the Mouse and GUI on Society and Business How the Mouse and GUI Enabled Other Technologies The rapid proliferation of computers has made both our social and business world more and more convenient. Although the first modern significant kind of computer was introduced the world in the 1940s, the major event which has changed the history of human– computer interaction was the advent of the graphical user interface at Xerox PARC in the 1970s. Along with a pointing device, typically a mouse, users are able to point to parts of the display. With the GUI which makes the interface to the computer primarily a visual medium, the virtual world inside the computer is portrayed graphically on the display. According to Shneiderman's the future of interactive systems and the emergence of direct manipulation [1] in 1982, he describes the GUI paradigm as "direct manipulation", which is a breakthrough. At the same time, under the influences of GUI and mouse development, multiple technology devices are showing up for the world to use and changing the way of doing things in both social and business life. For example, ATM systems are available for 24/7 banking, self–check–out systems are in many supermarkets and self–check–in systems are at airports in addition to online purchasing and home delivery available both major and niche retailers. Based on GUI, these systems have had a tremendous influence on modern business bringing convenience and efficiency to both customers and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Richard Wilbur 's Boy At The Window War has changed many people 's lives, including Richard Wilbur. Richard is a poet who was in the U.S. army in World War II. According to the Poetry Foundation, the war influenced his poetry. He was born in 1912 in New York City and won the Pulitzer Prize two times and won many other awards, such as the Wallace Stevens award. One poem Richard Wilbur wrote was "Boy at the Window". This poem is about a boy looking out a window at a snowman, but the young boy does not quite understand why the snowman has to suffer out in the cold. The theme of the poem is as one grows older they will start to understand the world more. This relates to Richard's experience in the war. Richard was young when he went into the war and he had many fears that he could not understand before going into the war. In the poem, "Boy at the Window", by Richard Wilbur, he shows a central idea of misunderstanding which shows the theme of as one grows older they will start to understand the world more by the context, literary devices, and mood in the poem. In the poem, "Boy at the Window", the first way that the theme of as one grows older they will start to understand the world more is shown in the context of the poem. An example of how the context of the poem helped to show is by the quote in line 1, "Seeing the snowman standing all alone" (Wilbur). This quote is talking about a little boy looking out the window at the snowman. It helps to explain the theme because he is young and does not understand ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. A Window Of Your Dreams A Window To Your Dreams In J.M. Barrie's classic children's story Peter Pan, a young boy named Peter takes three children on the adventure of their dreams in a faraway place called Neverland. The story, revolving around how "all children, except one, grow up" (1) takes the reader back to mindsets of children and their elaborate fantasies that might actually be true if they could only remember. With sword fights between pirates, fairy dust, flying away from home right out the window and death being only "an awfully big adventure" (113), not many can see how they would ever forget such a place, but by keeping their windows open and unlocked, any child can enter Neverland through their dreams. Barrie's use of the window isn't simply an entrance or exit way for Peter, it represents the blurred line between a child's dreams and reality, how the trust of a mother's love can be the best form of hope, and how every child should cherish their years of youth and innocence when they can fly to Neverland and not be brought down by age. According to Barrie's Peter Pan, every child's mind flies into their own personal Neverland at night, and sometimes, the lands can be breached when a window is open. Children have a way to keep this window open for the possibility of their dreams to come true, while adult's windows are kept shut due to age and therefore, losing the ability to travel to their Neverland. Every child's mind has access to a map consisting of "zigzag lines...probably roads in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Forest Of Gombe By Jane Goodall "In the Forest of Gombe" by Jane Goodall describes her own perspective of the correlation between religions and science through her experiences in the forest at Gombe where she finds comforting to recover from the loss of her husband. Developed several new concepts regarding life, Goodall comes up with the idea of the coexistence of science and religion. Agreeing with Goodall, however, the windows that Goodall sees through have no drawbacks. "Taught as s scientist", Goodall is trained "to think logically and empirically" (145). As a scientist, Goodall is supposed to be logical and not affected by personal or emotional factors. At Cambridge College, "those who believed in god kept it hidden from peers" (145). Even though her "beliefs had already been molded as that she was not influenced by these opinions" (145), she also has to keep he religion as a secret out of the pressure. When Goodall's husband passed away, she was devastated and she "rejected God" for a while because she was mad at fate and God she undoubtedly believes in for taking her beloved husband away from her. She thus went to the forest to seek comfort. There, she enjoyed the serenity of the nature, the beauty of the world and the unity of everything on this planet. Goodall's faith is renewed when she sees the world through the new windows she discovered in the forest. She is accustomed to think separately, in a scientific and religious way. However, during her time at the forest, she realizes how the two ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. On The Leveling Of The World Is Flat By Thomas Friedman THE FLATTENING OF THE WORLD Technological advancements are held accountable for contributing to the flattening of the world. Thomas L. Friedman, a journalist and the author of The World Is Flat, used the word "flat" to convey the leveling of the economic and social playing fields. Friedman declared that the initial factor that flattened the world was "when the walls came down, and the windows went up." The wall that Friedman was referencing in his statement was the Berlin Wall. Once the Berlin Wall came down, government control over the economy became very limited. The windows that Friedman was referring to were Microsoft Windows. Months after the fall of the Berlin wall, Microsoft presented Windows to the world. Although Windows was a huge ... • 10. Evolution Of Windows: The Evolution Of Windows The Evolution of Windows Background On the 10th November 1983 Microsoft founders Paul Allen and Bill Gates announced their company's next generation graphic user interface operating system (OS). Windows OS was launched in 1985 by Microsoft and since then it has been the most popular OS available on the market, overtaking its competitor Mac OS which launched in 1984. The main advantage of the Windows OS was its user friendly nature. It was the beginning of a new era for OS technology as it allowed the average user to access the PC without any complexities. Designed for the Intel 286 processor Windows 2.0 provided an increase in speed reliability and usability. The graphics support also improved meaning that windows were now able to overlap and the user had greater control over the layout of the screen. By 1988 computers were growing in popularity and becoming more commonplace in offices. (A History of Windows 2014) Windows 3.0 and 3.1 Windows 3.0 was announced in May 1990 followed by the swift release of Windows 3.1 in 1992. This became the most widely used Windows OS yet, selling 10 million copies in its first two years, again underlying the increase in use and demand of the PC. This particular OS provided significantly better performance. Improved graphics provided the allowance for 16 different colours and icons. Fully supported by the Intel 386 processor, there was a notable increase in program speed. (A History of Windows 2014) Windows NT 3.1 In 1993 a 32–bit OS that supported high–end engineering and scientific programs was developed. • 11. The Forest Of Gombe By Jane Goodall "In the Forest of Gombe" by Jane Goodall, Goodall describes her own perspectives of the correlation between religions and science through her experiences in the forest at Gombe after she loses her husband to cancer. She comes up with several new concepts which she calls windows during her time in the forest. Goodall develops the idea of the coexistence of science and religion for her deeper understanding of life and the world. I agree with her which the windows that Goodall sees through have no drawbacks because the windows enrich her scientific and religious thinking, represent the combination of science and religion as well as inspires ideas about future development. To begin with, the windows are beneficial because they can help understand the world more profoundly in a scientific way. Goodall's view is renewed when she sees the world through the new windows she discovered in the forest. The scientific window allows her to "see ever farther, ever more clearly, into areas which until recently were beyondhuman knowledge" (Goodall 148). This implies the new sight that the windows have opened for herself as well as her study. Her thoughts and knowledge are refreshed by the scientific window that the forest unfolds to her. The window broadens her horizon by presenting a world of larger scale with more innovative ideas and discoveries. She considers that window not only in favor of her years of study in chimpanzees, but also "help people understand a little ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Rear Window, By Alfred Hitchcock And The Last Laugh The films Rear Window, directed by Alfred Hitchcock, and The Last Laugh, directed by Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau, both feature protagonists going through change, for better or for worse. Rear Window features L.B. 'Jeff' Jefferies, a professional photographer who is stuck in his wheelchair, in his apartment, because of an accident he had while on the job. The Last Laugh features a hotel doorman that gets demoted to a lesser job, who then undergoes a psychological change. Both films use elements of mise–en–scene to show how the protagonists adapt and change to their confinement and isolation. The use of the set, framing, and motifs of doors and windows in both films emphasizes the idea of the protagonists dealing with change, from freedom to confinement and isolation. In Rear Window, the set is used show the freedom Jeff had before he was confined to his apartment. During the opening scene, the camera pans over and zooms out – through the window – from the other apartment onto Jeff. The opening scene is significant because it demonstrates how Jeff confines himself to his apartment; instead, he could be outside venturing in his wheelchair, despite his disability. Also, the set only consists of the apartment across from Jeff, and his own apartment, while there are several of buildings looming in the background. This segment of the setting, Jeff's apartment and the one across from him, suggests that the set is very enclosed and restricted of freedom; for no other areas of the ... • 13. Marcel Duchamp Fresh Widow Essay Marcel Duchamp's Fresh Widow was created in 1920, and is on display at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). Fresh Widow is a bluish green miniature French window, which he constructed with wood and leather. The Fresh Widow is considered to be a part of the Dadaist period and retains qualities of dadaism in that it is a stand alone object, that has been completely stripped of its utility and function. In addition, across the window sill, Duchamp wrote "COPYRIGHT" in capitalized black letters referring to the classic dadaist rejection of the commodification or reproduction of art. Duchamp created the Fresh Widow two years after the end of World War I. World War I was traumatizing and horrific for most of Europe, with millions of men being killed. The timing of Duchamp's Fresh Widow, the title, as well as the form of his piece all work together to represent the losses felt by wives in France during the war. The use of a French window that has been blacked out by black leather, as well as the bluish–green color of the wood is a reference to the macabre realities of war and the ... Duchamp's piece illustrates the grief stricken emotional and deadened vision widows had after the war when their wounds were ripe and unable to be restrained. The widow is much like Duchamp's window– impenetrable and unreadable. The viewer cannot see the vision of the widow because the widow herself cannot she her own vision. Much like the inability of the viewer to look through the glass, the widow cannot look to somewhere else, to a different place. The viewer is left with an intimate bond with the widow, experiencing her inability to create a vision but is also left at a distance from the widow because of the viewer's inability to read her emotions and thought processes. The history of Windows dates back to 1975 when Bill Gates and Paul Allen founded a partnership called Microsoft. They had a monumental vision that there would be a computer on every desktop and in every home (Microsoft, Era 0, para 2). Microsoft rewrote a previously purchased operating system to support subdirectories and hard disks naming it MS–DOS (Software Gems, para 3–5). This is short for Microsoft Disk Operating System. MS–DOS was an effective foundation that ran the personal computer. However, it was difficult for users to master. Specific commands required memorization. To combat the frustration caused by MS–DOS, Microsoft released Windows 1.0 in 1983. Windows 1.0 was introduced as "unique software designed for the serious PC user" (Microsoft, Era 1, para 2) by Bill Gates. Windows 1.0 enabled users to maneuver a mouse to point and click versus typing in difficult to remember commands. This was not, however, the first operating system to use the point and click technology. The low price is what really made Windows 1.0 stand out from the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Operating Systems And Operating System Operating Systems Every computer needs an operating system to operate. The operating system controls everything that the computer does, the master controller. It is the gasoline of the computer. According to Parsons and Oja (2014), they state that an operating system is "the integral part of virtually every computer system. It fundamentally affects how you can use your computer" (p 184). Most computers are bought with the operating system already installed. Once the computer is turned on, the operating system does a "check" of the system, which includes the hardware of peripheral devices attached. Once the check is complete, the operating system is loaded into the ROM of the computer. There are several different operating systems that can run a computer system. Just like software, the operating system has been upgraded to perfection over the years. Back in the earlier years of computers, there was only one operating system. This was the well known , Disk Operating System, also known as DOS. Looking back, DOS was a complicated operating system. Once a computer was turned on, you would see a flashing MS DOS:. This was its way of telling you, that it is ready for its next command. This is when you had to rely on the book. Because it did not provide you with an on screen list of what you could do from there. You had to specifically type in the command, of what you wanted to do next. However, the life of the computer changed forever with the birth of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Diving : A Window Of An Unexplored World DIVING: A Window to an Unexplored World Mankind has always been very curious about the ocean and its secrets. In the past centuries, countless numbers of inventions and experiments have been made in an attempt to maximize the time that a person can stay underwater. Thanks to a device called the aqualung, invented in 1943 by Jacques Cousteau, people were able to dive down and explore the ocean with his/her own air source without the need to be connected to an air source at the surface. Eventually, this lead to the formation of a subculture around the sport, with many divers around the world exploring the world's oceans. There are many reasons to be a part of this subculture. I interviewed Luke Inman, a successful Instructor Trainer for the Professional Association of Dive Instructors, and an avid filmmaker and photographer who constantly works with the BBC, Discovery Networks, National Geographic, & Animal Planet, and after asking him what rituals or practices a person must do to become part of this subculture, he answered: "You have to have a love for the ocean, you have to love fish". You also need to take a Scuba course. This course is called an Open Water Diver course (or OWD for short); this will be the diver's first certification. It teaches you about atmospheric pressure, how your body is affected underwater, the risks of diving, and how easy they are to evade by following simple procedures. After the diver gets certified as an open water diver, he or she may want to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Essay on Asher Lev and The Window Looking Beyond the Glass Could humiliation and pain come from something as simple as a glass in a wooden frame? Throughout the novel, My Name Is Asher Lev by Chiam Potok, much of inner characters are revealed through the symbol of the window. The mother, the father, and Asher all face many struggles and the use of the window helps one to understand them. To begin with, themother, Rivkeh, is shown a great deal by the window. Potok writes, "About an hour after supper, it began to snow heavily. My mother and I stood at the living–room window, watching for my father. 'I hate this,' my mother murmured, staring out the window" (79–80). This expresses the worry that she has for her husband, Aryeh, and his journey back home. For example, the ... In book one, "He [goes] to the window and stood gazing out at the busy parkway. He paced the floor. He [seems] caged. He saw me looking at him, 'I'm not made for desks, Asher.' He rubbed the side of his face, 'I should be there, not here'" (26–27). This shows how the window is a barrier for his father. Aryeh thinks that he should not be behind it, but instead, out helping people and continuing to travel for the Rebbe. Also in book one, Potok writes, "He stood looking through the window at the street outside, quietly singing his father's melody... He held his hands to both sides of his head. Standing there, with the room in shadows and his faintly illumined features reflected in the window that looked out onto the dark street..." (15). As well as a barrier, the window also serves as a passage way to the master of the universe. To show the passage way again, Potok says, "He was standing in front of the window chanting softly from the Book of Psalms" (26). For the father, the window is ultimately a way out of the apartment into the religious world. Many of Asher's characteristics are exposed through the window as well. When Asher is on the train with Jacob Kahn, he sees his reflection in the window. He tells that, "I spent the rest of the journey looking at my reflection in that dark window of the ... • 38. From Rags Programming For Riches Programming From Rags Programming to Riches Programming Microsoft Visual Studio.Net is an object–oriented program that is used to develop website and software application. In the early 60's Visual Basics was developed to help beginners to learn essential programming techniques. In the 70's when Microsoft was founded by Bill Gates programmed computers with basic. In the late 80's and early 90's he wanted to make programming windows program simpler, so he developed a whole new visual user interface (GUI), which is the visual part of the operating system that humans can interact with (Deitel & Deitel, 2011). This is where the concept for Visual Basic and C# programs to be developed in Visual Studio, which is a collection of software tools called an Integrated Development Environment (IDE).Visual Studio 2010 IDE, that gives the programmer the ability to "write, run, test, and debug in Basic and C# programs" faster and easier than previous versions (Deitel & Deitel 2011, p. 6). In the early 70's, the C program language was developed, which became popular as the programming language used for the UNIX operating system. C is an independent language used for hardware, however with the right design it can be transfer to other computers (Deitel & Deitel, 2011). To liven thing up, in the early 80's C++ object–oriented program (OOP) was developed. It added objects to the C language, which added more features that made turned objects in to reusable software components that resembles the real ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Coffee Daily: Windows to the World People all over the world wake up to a cup of coffee but is this harmful or beneficial? Research shows that the pros to coffee, at responsible amounts per day, outweigh the cons or negative effects of coffee and even have the same effects as medicines given over the counter at pharmacy or even prescribed by a pharmacist. Many people just drink coffee without even knowing the location of where coffee began but this can be very crucial to the understanding to finding the benefits of coffee. "In the Ethiopian highlands, where the legend of Kaldi, the goatherd, originated, coffee trees grow today as they have for centuries. Though we will never know with certainty, there probably is some truth to the Kaldi legend. It is said that he discovered coffee after noticing that his goats, upon eating berries from a certain tree, became so spirited that they did not want to sleep at night. Kaldi dutifully reported his findings to the abbot of the local monastery who made a drink with the berries and discovered that it kept him alert for the long hours of evening prayer. As word moved east and coffee reached the Arabian peninsula, it began a journey which would spread its reputation across the globe." ("The History Of Coffee") Lots of benefits that come from coffee come from the caffeine such as giving you energy to stay awake just like the Kaldi in the story ,but caffeine can be addictive just like a drug.
