The Vaka Eiva festival is celebrated annually in the Cook Islands from November 14th to 21st to honor the cultural significance of ocean going canoes. The festival was started in 2004 and features international paddlers competing in challenging races around Rarotonga like the Avana Iron Challenge and relay races, drawing participants from places like New Zealand, Australia, Tahiti, Hawaii, Samoa and Guam.
