Persuasive Electoral College
The United States is globally recognized as a democratic nation, granting voting rights to its citizens
that place the power of government in their hands. This power is held dear by U.S. citizens
nationwide, as well as other nations who strive for democracy and recognition. Unfortunately, this
universally recognized right is quite erroneous. The United States uses a system called the Electoral
College to elect the President and Vice President. This system consists of 538 electors that choose
the President for the people – nullifying the concept of democracy. Therefore, the United States
should abandon the Electoral College system for Presidential elections because it places the power
of government in the hands or politicians and political machines, while revoking power from the
hands of the citizens – from the hands of the people.
On the Tuesday after the first Monday in November, millions of Americans head to voting booths to
cast their vote for the Presidential candidate of their choice. People worldwide assume that these
votes go directly to the individual's candidate of choice, but this assumption is principally incorrect.
According to the National Archives and Records Administration, "You help choose your state's
electors when you vote for President because when you vote for your candidate you are actually
voting for your candidate's electors." (archives.gov) As a result, the American people have no direct
power in the election of the President of the United States.

The Advantages and disadvantages of both sides during the civil war The American Civil War

(South). The South wanted to keep slavery to maintain their economy, but after the North realized
how badly the slaves were being treated, the war became the only answer. Around 620,000 people

Preliminary Emancipation Proclamation Analysis
President Abraham Lincoln first read the Preliminary Emancipation Proclamation to his cabinet on
September 22, 1862, the reason the Proclamation was labelled preliminary was because it was meant
as a warning to the confederacy that the union would take action on New Year's Day if they refused
to surrender and re–join the Union. Under the Preliminary Proclamation if the south refused to
surrender, then all slaves in any state where people were in rebellion against the United States, Shall
be forever freed, the government of the United States, including all military authority will respect
and maintain the freedom of the freed slaves(Striner,2012). The warning to the confederate states

Why Did Lewis And Clark Explore The West
My thesis is, Why did Lewis and Clark wanted to go explore the West and what was the outcome ?
In the year of 1803 President Thomas Jefferson bought a piece of land from France and after the
Louisiana Purchase Treaty was made by Thomas Jefferson. He wanted people to explore the west.
Thomas Jefferson asked his personal secretary Meriwether Lewis to explore and Lewis asked his
friend William Clark to help him explore the west. Lewis was Thomas Jefferson's personal secretary
when Thomas Jefferson was in office he thought Lewis was an intelligent person. Clark was great
draftsman and frontiersman and Lewis respected him a lot that he made Clark Co–Commanding
Captain of the expedition to the West. ( Lewis and Clark Expedition Perry, Douglas. "Lewis & Clark

Iraqi Baath Party Record
This paper explores the political, legal, and ethical issues at stake in the debate over the custody of
the Iraqi Baath Party records. Caswell presents the Iraqi Baath Party records as a lens through which
one can view the complexities of cultural property repatriation on a broader scale – and how the
current frameworks of repatriation only perpetuate dangerously oversimplified binary thinking.
First, a brief outline of the case: During the 2003 U.S. invasion of Iraq, seven million pages of
Saddam Hussein's Baath Party records ended up in the hands of Kanan Makiya, founder of the Iraq
Memory Foundation (often referred to as the IMF). Ultimately, the IMF deposited the records at the

The Impacts Of The Magna Carta In The 12th Century
The late 12th century was plagued by one of the most corrupt governments of all known history. The
government of England was unorganized and corrupt due to the nearly unlimited power held by
King John. In the early 13th century the people had enough and turned on the king forcing him to
sign one of the most important documents to democracies today, the Magna Carta. The Magna Carta
is a document that challenged the authority of the king, forcing him to the rule of the law and
protecting his people from abuse. With all that being said it is hard to argue that the Magna Carta is
not one of the most important political documents of known history in England that also influenced
the United States and other democracies.
Firstly, the magna carta greatly impacted England's democracy. The Magna Carta forced the King to
follow the law of the land which limited his power. Matt Elton states that "the year of Magna Carta,
1215, {was} when an English ruler was first subjected to the law" (Elton). This is stating that the
King is subjected to his own law, meaning that he is not higher than it. This was super important
because it took a lot of power from the king and gave it back to the people. Another impactful thing
on England was the 39th and 40th clause of the Magna Carta which forced, maybe not fair trial, but
at least a trial. This can be supported by a quote from Nigel Saul "Clause 39 says that no free man
shall be arrested ... without judgment of his peers or against the law of the

The Chinese Exclusion Act Of 1882
The Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 was passed while President Chester Arthur was in office. It was
the first law in the United States that restricted immigrants with a detailed agenda. However, before
the act was passed, there were limitations against the Chinese already growing with legislatures and
previous treaties. Although, attitudes towards the Chinese was not always discriminating and hostile,
limitations grew and Chinese immigrants became unwelcome. Legislation ensured Chinese
remained inferior by making it hard to earn money. They had to pay a foreign miner 's tax and an
alien poll tax, even though, U.S merchants advertised and lured Chinese people to America during

The Significance of The Treaty of Paris 1783 In efforts to bring an end to the tedious Revolutionary
War, negotiations were held to form a treaty. Five congressional members were chosen to consult on
these important matters but only three were able to conduct them. The Continental Congress
originally named a five–member commission, however, Henry Laurens was captured by a Bristish

The Americans received much recognition from the British about their achievements, some of them
being the securing of American fishermen's right of access to the Grand Banks off the coast of
Newfoundland and other fisheries in Canada and Great Britain, handing over all of the land between
the east side of the Allegheny Mountains and the west side of the Mississippi River to the United
States, which doubled the size of their nation. In agreement, the United States promised to restore
their property that was impounded during the war (White, 2013). U.S. territory would extend from
the Atlantic Ocean to the Mississippi River in the West, and from the Great Lakes and Canada in the
North to the thirty–first parallel in the South. The U.S. fishing fleet was guaranteed access to the
fisheries off the coast of Newfoundland. Under the treaty navigation of the Mississippi River was to
be open to both the United States and Great Britain. Creditors of both countries were not to be
impeded from collecting their debts. Congress was to recommend to the states that loyalists to the
British cause during the war be treated fairly and have their rights and confiscated property restored

Conspiracy Theories: The Assassination Of John F. Kennedy
Rough Draft
John Fitzgerald Kennedy the 35th US president was assassinated riding through Dallas, Texas. He
was driving with his wife right next to him when he was killed. He was at a 10–mile motorcade with
not only his wife, but his vice president, Lyndon B. Johnson, and the Texas Governor John Connally
and his wife. His vice president was sworn in on November 22nd, at 2:39pm. His death was far
more than unjustified, for all he was trying to for was unify America and its people.
On November 29, 1963, President Lyndon B. Johnson told the Warren Commision to find the truth
behind President Kennedy's death. They soon found out that Lee Harvey Oswald, born in New
Orleans in 1939, was the shooter that killed him. They also found out that Oswald ... Show more

An archive is a collection of historical documents or records providing information about a place,
institution, or group of people. The current collection consists of assassination records, pictures,
artifacts, and sound recordings. There are conspiracy theories to go with every assassination. The
most popular conspiracy theories belong to the 35th president himself. One conspiracy is known as
"Secret Service killer"where they theorize that one of the secret service members shot Kennedy on
accident. Another popular theory is that the witnesses played a part in his death, such as the
mysterious "Umbrella Man". There are many others, including his death being related to the 16th
president, Abraham Lincoln as well. The government has shielded a lot of information from the
public eye regarding Kennedy's assassination. Until February the 4th of 2016, they have withheld
information and files ever since Kennedy's death in 1963. Based on the files given, nobody has
found anything on his death. The head of the Archives' Special Access Branch, Martha Murphy, told
POLITICO herself "I'll be honest. I am hesitant to say you're not going to find out anything about
the assassination." Which fuels more and more people to create ridiculous theories about not only

The Modern Election–Arguments Against the Electoral College
The electoral college is a mash–up of ancient ideas that amalgamate in an outdated mess that doesn
't make sense in the modern day. In the 2000 US election, George W. Bush won the electoral college
and lost the popular vote, This proved that the electoral college has too much power in comparison
to the popular vote and disproved what the founding fathers had planned for the college included all
peoples having equal representation. The founding fathers had planned the electoral college as a
compromise between the people and congress choosing the president. With modern day

The electoral college has not changed since its conception in the first congressional convention in
1836. Even then, many of the pre–existing things are vague and cryptic such as in the constitution
the electoral college is only referenced once in article II. Article II–1 of the U.S. Constitution states
"The executive Power shall be vested in a President of the United States of America. He shall hold
his Office during the Term of four Years, and, together with the Vice– President, chosen for the same
Term, be elected, as follows each State shall appoint, in such Manner as the Legislature thereof may
direct, a Number of Electors, equal to the whole Number of Senators and Representatives to which
the State may be entitled in the Congress: but no Senator or Representative, or Person holding an
Office of Trust or Profit under the United States, shall be appointed an Elector."(Presidental Election
Laws, ). As this reading states briefly that the number of electors is dictated by a legislator and the
legislator bases the number of electors on the population. These things should be fixed in order to
better represent all states equally within the electoral college.

Separate But Equal Essay
Was "Separate but Equal" really equal? In many states colored people were not treated equal, many
were discriminated against and many children were not treated fairly. Their schools and learning
conditions were terrible, many of there schools didn't even have running water. Houston, Charles H.
states in his article that many African Americans were referred to as second class citizens. Many
colored people were separated from whites by the laws put in place; such as "separate but equal" and
many others. There were many groups that stood up against these laws such as the NAACP which
held many protests. These groups also stood up against many laws such as "separate but equal". The
Passing of "separate but equal" laws was unfair to blacks it's discrimination lead to the Brown v.
Board of Education case that had a positive result because public schools were desegregated.
Separate but Equal laws were created to separate colored people from white people. Despite many
disagreements they still made segregation legal "the courts challenged earlier civil rights legislation
and handed down a series of decisions that permitted states to segregate people of color"
(Smithsonian). This quote helps to explain why "separate but equal" was created and that many
people already disagreed with is but instead of revising it they passed it. "Separate but equal" was a
very contravital topic there were many protests and many disagreements involving this topic and the

Should The Government Deplete The Price Of Illegal Drugs
Based on the given scenario, if the government declares marijuana and cocaine illegal the price of
illegal drugs increases, creating more gangs and gang welfare. Due to the high price of illegal drugs,
fewer street drugs are consumed. I personally think that the government trying to be rational about
the drug market would lead them to a market failure. In the article, it stated that a legal dispensary
charged $70 for up to 1 ounce of marijuana and less than that, 0.25 being the maximum, to
customers that were from out of town. Most cartels would take a hard–hit due to the scarcity of their
products because this public policy would put marijuana and cocaine in high demand. If you
consider the fact that most cartels don't give you a limit such as the 1 oz limit offered by the legal
dispensaries portrayed within the article, they will most likely go into short supply soon. ... Show

However, the government has been fighting a war on drugs for quite a while now and it doesn't seem

gangs and drug cartels a more efficient market power because since they have a product that's high
in demand they have more influence over the economy than the government does. The government's
actions could lead to an increase in violence due to addicts killing or stealing to get their product.

Immigrants have also developed and improved technologies and companies because most are
engineers, scientists, and innovators looking for a way to improve the lives of many and to make an
impact in the world. According to the Census Bureau, immigrants take up 33 percent of engineers,
27 percent of mathematicians, statisticians, and computer scientist, and 24 percent of physical
scientists. Additionally, immigrant innovators have contributed to more than 75 percent of patents in
universities. There is an ongoing controversy that claims immigrants are 'taking Americans jobs', but
that is not the case. Most immigrants are actually more than willing to do twice the work that
Americans are not in the job forces that they are placed in. This is because the difference of wages.
For example, compensation in the US for a manufacturing job is actually six times higher than in
Mexico. Despite some of the mistreatment and poor working conditions, immigrants are still willing

Ideals : The Age Of Reason And The Declaration Of...
Brianna Valdez Ms. Loughman English 3A 20 October 2016 Ideals in the Age of Reason Led to the
Declaration of Independance In the Age of Reason, writers were most interested in logical
arguments. They focused on faith and valued reason and order. The important writers in the Age of
Reason were mostly political figures, so the writing concentrated on equality, individualism and self
governance. The Declaration of Independence also focuses on equality and self governance by
giving people their individual rights. The ideals of the Age of Reason shaped the Declaration of
Independance because they both share the values: equality, liberty and individualism. One of the
ideals in the Age of Reason is equality. During the Age of Reason the American colonists felt
violated and angry when King George III and Parliament imposed numerous restrictive regulations.
King George III angered the American colonists to the point where they wanted to become
independant. The Declaration of Independance outlines equality for all people, so this ideal is very
evident in the document. An example of equality in the Declaration of Independance is, "all men are
created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with inherent and inalienable rights; that
among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." (archives.gov) The ideals in the Age of
Reason led to the creation of the formal document that gave the right of equality because the
colonists did not want to be associated with

Essay on The Women's Rights Movement 1848-1920
The Women's Rights Movement was a long and persistent battle fought by many brave female
advocates that came before us such as Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Lucretia Mott and Susan B. Anthony.
These women selflessly dedicated their lives to the ratification of the 19th Amendment, which
forever changed the lives of womankind in America. Prior to their efforts, the United States was still
in shambles over the Civil War and spent most of its focus on rebuilding the country and securing
rights to African American men. Several activists resented the fact that women were not included in
this effort and took matters into their own hands. The first meeting solely dedicated to women's
rights was the Seneca Falls Convention on July 19–20, 1848 and was ... Show more content on

The AWSA was larger and more financially secure than the NWSA, however, they did not have the
national support that their adversary had. Yet, one thing that both groups had in common was their
struggle to gain supporters and spread influence. During the early years of the 1880's, the women in
both groups had a very hard time attracting women, male politicians and voters to adapt the cause
("The Women's Rights Movement, 1848–1920."). In fact, organizations began popping up that
opposed the women's suffrage efforts and many of those factions were made up of women. The
National Association Opposed to Woman Suffrage (NAOWS) in New York City was just one of
many of these antisuffrage parties that believed that women were more helpful to their communities
if they did not participate in voting rights ("ANTI–SUFFRAGE ASSOCIATION."). Despite the
opposition and struggles in the early part of the decade, the women from both the NWSA and
AWSA did not give up. Inevitably, in the early 1890's the cause took off when middle–class
volunteers stepped up to help. Due to the immense devotion of the new constituents and their desire
to spread the movement outside the home, the women's suffrage movement became a legitimate
argument that united both the NWSA and AWSA. In 1890, the two groups merged under one party,

Essay On Electoral College Should Be Abolished

Mr. Burkhartsmeier
The Electoral College
This past election has definitely one of the most controversial ones. It brought up many issues with
the government, the biggest issue being the role of the electoral college in the election process.
Although Donald Trump was elected, due to him losing the popular vote to Hillary Clinton, the
electoral college system has been heavily questioned. Despite arguments that claim the electoral
college gives more power to the minority states, the electoral college should be abolished because it
diminishes voter turnout, weakens votes, and does not support democracy. The electoral college is a
selection of electors who vote for the President/Vice President. There are 538 electoral votes ...

Is National Citizenship Irrelevant Outside the United States?
Introduction The question of whether national citizenship is still relevant as a nationally–ascribed
designator of membership and rights is best answered with a single word: "Depends." Within the
United States, national citizenship has conferred rights and duties that remain viable hundreds of
years after their creation. Outside the United States, national citizenship is essentially irrelevant.
National Citizenship Is Still Relevant as a Nationally–Ascribed Designator of Membership and
Rights Within the United States but It is Essentially Irrelevant Outside the United States Within the
United States In the Ancient World, citizenship conferred valuable rights. After the establishment of
the Athenian city–state in 8th Century B.C., Athens had 200,000 inhabitants, of whom 40,000 were
adult male citizens (Radulovic 27). Citizenship granted full political rights that were denied to other
inhabitants of Athens. So too, if you were a citizen of Ancient Rome, you could supposedly travel
throughout the Roman Empire and needed only the words "Civis Romanus sum" ("I am a Roman
citizen") to protect you from harm because you had the power and swift revenge of the Roman
Empire behind you (Edaburn). Consequently, the concept of citizenship that confers certain rights
and duties reaches back at least as far as Ancient Greece and the Roman Empire. Modern rights and
duties of citizenship are relatively young and their relevance largely depends on whether the citizen

Difference Between Democracy And Democracy
The citizens of the United States today refer to their country as a democracy, when in fact, we have
a more nuanced form of a government. We are a federal republic and a constitutional democracy.
Republic and democracy are often used interchangeably by the common citizens, and even leaders
at times. But they are not synonyms; quite the opposite actually. The differences in the two
approaches can be seen in the fundamentally opposing views of the political parties in the USA that
bear these names.
In its purest form, a democracy means the rule of the majority. They have the potential to turn into
what might be best described as 'mob rule'. In such a situation, the majority takes all the decisions
that favor them, while compromising the interests of the minority. If three cats and a mouse are
voting, the three cats can vote for eating the mouse. But, a constitutional democracy is different in
the sense that the authority of the majority is limited by law, so that the rights of the minorities are
respected. The power is distributed among various branches of the government. Moreover, there are
checks and balances in place that ensure that there is no abuse of power. The elections in a
constitutional democracy are scheduled after a fixed period of time, and the power is transferred
regularly.
On the other hand, in a republic, the government is limited by the constitution or the law and should
recognize the sovereignty of the individual. The concept of a republic pushes the idea

Many things happened during the Civil War. One of the most remembered things that occurred was
the end of slavery. The abolition of slavery happened for multiple reasons. Some people felt that
slaves were people and did not deserve the way they got treated. Other people thought that ending
slavery would help bring the country back together.
The Civil War did not begin with the goal of ending slavery. The people in the North only wanted to
limit the number of slaves and slave owners. There were a number of people who wanted to
completely abolish slavery, but that was not Lincoln's intention at the start of the war. The war was
partly caused by the South not feeling heard by the people in office or anywhere in the country.

What makes a respectable president? Many people say it is the legislation they pass, but what is

The Equal Rights Amendment; first proposed by the National Women's Party in congress in 1923,

Originally the deadline to pass or fail the amendment was 7 years, but that was extended to ten

Mexican Culture : Mexican American Culture
Mexican–American Culture
Many immigrants come to the United States from all over the world. Some bring their families,
some their prized possessions, others come with nothing but determination and the goal of a better
life. One thing that every immigrant brings with them is their culture. One of the most dominant
minority cultures in the United States is the Mexican culture. The US shares a border with Mexico
making it easier for immigrants to stay in contact with their families in their home country and more
closely connected to their culture. In 2014, 64 percent of Hispanic people in the United States

A Mexican–American is a person born in Mexico or a person born in the United States whose
family of origin immigrated from Mexico. Many people assume being Mexican is an ethnicity, it is
not. A good example is an American immigrating to another country and identifying as American, it
is a nationality not an ethnicity. A Mexican can be of any ethnic background and still be considered
Mexican as long as they or their family of origin come from Mexico. The majority of Mexicans are

Persuasive Essay On Childhood Obesity
A Deeper Look into Childhood Obesity The percentage of children with obesity in the United States
has more than tripled since the 1970s ("Healthy Schools."). Childhood obesity is a medical
condition that affects children and teenagers who contain excess body fat. This condition is very
common today, having about 3 million cases per year ("Healthy Schools."). A sign that a child is
suffering from obesity is when their weight is well above the average for a child's height and age.
Today about one in five school children, ages 6–19, are obese ("Healthy Schools."). I will be
addressing the causes, health complications, treatments, controversy, and supporting obese students.
First and foremost, the most common causes of childhood obesity are genetic factors, overeating,
and not exercising enough. Although obesity may run in a family, it does not determine whether a
child will be obese or not ("Obesity in Children"). If a child who comes from a family of obesity,
happens to become overweight like them, the likely cause is due to bad eating and activity habits.
Many children today spend more time inside the house eating and watching television, rather than
being active outdoors ("Obesity in Children"). This is due to the recent popularity of having
electronics such as television, games, and phones serve as entertainment. Another reason for the
excessive eating is because parents are often too busy to cook healthy foods on a regular basis,
leaving children to rely on fast food or

The Strengths And Weaknesses Of The OAIS
Strengths and Weaknesses of the OAIS In addition to the benefits and flaws addressed in Schumann
and Recker's study of the GESIS Data Archive, the OAIS model has additional strengths and
weakness worth noting. One such strength of the model is its use of a controlled vocabulary, which
has helped improve communication among information professionals. Schumann and Recker write
that the terminology the model employs is helpful because it is compiled with terms "that are not
already overloaded with meaning, so as to reduce conveying of unintended meanings." Furthermore,
the model attempts to explain basic concepts, relationships, and processes that are common to the
field of digital preservation. Similar to its use of a set vocabulary, the detailed understanding of
concepts provided by the model offers professionals a common ground of understanding which
promotes better communication, discussion, and collaboration. According to Lee, this common
ground allows professionals to "consolidate understanding of the needs and requirements of digital
preservation." There are also economic benefits that can result from widespread compliancy to the
OAIS model. In his writing from the early days of the OAIS' creation, Lavoie predicted that the
model, with its standardization of concepts and processes, has the potential to create monetary
savings through the use of shared system components, while also promoting a broad market for the
development of such software. Another weakness of the OAIS is that users often forget to
acknowledge that the concept is merely a reference model. Schumann and Recker note that a
reference model is only an abstract framework, and "it is not directly tied to any standards,
technologies, or other concrete implementation details." Because it is more of a guideline, it is
technically impossible to implement the OAIS, and users must instead aim to conform or comply to
its concepts. Schumann and Recker further note that the model "will not translate into a real–world
system seamlessly," and that methods of compliance can vary on an institution by institution basis .
Tarvo Kärberg discusses "completing" the OAIS model to ensure that each institution can, in fact,
create a system out of the model

although they both protect the freedom of citizens they do this in different ways. 2 Civil Liberties
are limitations placed on the government. These are things the government is restricted to do, by the
constitution. Things that could interfere with personal freedom. 3 For example, the 1st amendment

I believe that as I grow older my civil rights will come to protect me more due to older age and

The first case I analyzed was the Weaver v. Massachusetts case. It involved a petitioner who was
convicted of murder. He was tried in a Massachusetts court, in which the courtroom could not
accommodate all the jurors. All non– eligible jurors were asked to leave including the petitioner 's
mother and her minister. The case included "a Sixth Amendment violation" (Weaver, 2017). The
sixth amendment states "all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and

mother to stay due to space, they therefore broke the sixth amendment. This misjustice classifies as
a violation of the civil liberties due to the fact that it violates a constitutional amendment that places

Persuasive Electoral College

  • 1. Persuasive Electoral College The United States is globally recognized as a democratic nation, granting voting rights to its citizens that place the power of government in their hands. This power is held dear by U.S. citizens nationwide, as well as other nations who strive for democracy and recognition. Unfortunately, this universally recognized right is quite erroneous. The United States uses a system called the Electoral College to elect the President and Vice President. This system consists of 538 electors that choose the President for the people – nullifying the concept of democracy. Therefore, the United States should abandon the Electoral College system for Presidential elections because it places the power of government in the hands or politicians and political machines, while revoking power from the hands of the citizens – from the hands of the people. On the Tuesday after the first Monday in November, millions of Americans head to voting booths to cast their vote for the Presidential candidate of their choice. People worldwide assume that these votes go directly to the individual's candidate of choice, but this assumption is principally incorrect. According to the National Archives and Records Administration, "You help choose your state's electors when you vote for President because when you vote for your candidate you are actually voting for your candidate's electors." (archives.gov) As a result, the American people have no direct power in the election of the President of the United States. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Preliminary Emancipation Proclamation Analysis President Abraham Lincoln first read the Preliminary Emancipation Proclamation to his cabinet on September 22, 1862, the reason the Proclamation was labelled preliminary was because it was meant as a warning to the confederacy that the union would take action on New Year's Day if they refused to surrender and re–join the Union. Under the Preliminary Proclamation if the south refused to surrender, then all slaves in any state where people were in rebellion against the United States, Shall be forever freed, the government of the United States, including all military authority will respect and maintain the freedom of the freed slaves(Striner,2012). • 6. Iraqi Baath Party Record This paper explores the political, legal, and ethical issues at stake in the debate over the custody of the Iraqi Baath Party records. Caswell presents the Iraqi Baath Party records as a lens through which one can view the complexities of cultural property repatriation on a broader scale – and how the current frameworks of repatriation only perpetuate dangerously oversimplified binary thinking. First, a brief outline of the case: During the 2003 U.S. invasion of Iraq, seven million pages of Saddam Hussein's Baath Party records ended up in the hands of Kanan Makiya, founder of the Iraq Memory Foundation (often referred to as the IMF). The records generated from the 40–year study underscore the informational and evidentiary value in holding the U.S. government accountable. • 7. The Impacts Of The Magna Carta In The 12th Century The late 12th century was plagued by one of the most corrupt governments of all known history. The government of England was unorganized and corrupt due to the nearly unlimited power held by King John. In the early 13th century the people had enough and turned on the king forcing him to sign one of the most important documents to democracies today, the Magna Carta. The Magna Carta is a document that challenged the authority of the king, forcing him to the rule of the law and protecting his people from abuse. With all that being said it is hard to argue that the Magna Carta is not one of the most important political documents of known history in England that also influenced the United States and other democracies. Firstly, the magna carta greatly impacted England's democracy. The Magna Carta forced the King to follow the law of the land which limited his power. Matt Elton states that "the year of Magna Carta, 1215, {was} when an English ruler was first subjected to the law" (Elton). This is stating that the King is subjected to his own law, meaning that he is not higher than it. This was super important because it took a lot of power from the king and gave it back to the people. Another impactful thing on England was the 39th and 40th clause of the Magna Carta which forced, maybe not fair trial, but at least a trial. This can be supported by a quote from Nigel Saul "Clause 39 says that no free man shall be arrested ... without judgment of his peers or against the law of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although, attitudes towards the Chinese was not always discriminating and hostile, limitations grew and Chinese immigrants became unwelcome. One conspiracy is known as "Secret Service killer"where they theorize that one of the secret service members shot Kennedy on accident. Another popular theory is that the witnesses played a part in his death, such as the mysterious "Umbrella Man". There are many others, including his death being related to the 16th president, Abraham Lincoln as well. Brianna Valdez Ms. Loughman English 3A 20 October 2016 Ideals in the Age of Reason Led to the Declaration of Independance In the Age of Reason, writers were most interested in logical arguments. They focused on faith and valued reason and order. The important writers in the Age of Reason were mostly political figures, so the writing concentrated on equality, individualism and self governance. The Declaration of Independence also focuses on equality and self governance by giving people their individual rights. The ideals of the Age of Reason shaped the Declaration of Independance because they both share the values: equality, liberty and individualism. One of the ideals in the Age of Reason is equality. During the Age of Reason the American colonists felt violated and angry when King George III and Parliament imposed numerous restrictive regulations. King George III angered the American colonists to the point where they wanted to become independant. The Declaration of Independance outlines equality for all people, so this ideal is very evident in the document. An example of equality in the Declaration of Independance is, "all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with inherent and inalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." In fact, organizations began popping up that opposed the women's suffrage efforts and many of those factions were made up of women. Outside the United States, national citizenship is essentially irrelevant. National Citizenship Is Still Relevant as a Nationally–Ascribed Designator of Membership and Rights Within the United States but It is Essentially Irrelevant Outside the United States Within the United States In the Ancient World, citizenship conferred valuable rights. After the establishment of the Athenian city–state in 8th Century B.C., Athens had 200,000 inhabitants, of whom 40,000 were adult male citizens (Radulovic 27). Citizenship granted full political rights that were denied to other inhabitants of Athens. • 31. Difference Between Democracy And Democracy The citizens of the United States today refer to their country as a democracy, when in fact, we have a more nuanced form of a government. We are a federal republic and a constitutional democracy. Republic and democracy are often used interchangeably by the common citizens, and even leaders at times. But they are not synonyms; quite the opposite actually. The differences in the two approaches can be seen in the fundamentally opposing views of the political parties in the USA that bear these names. In its purest form, a democracy means the rule of the majority. They have the potential to turn into what might be best described as 'mob rule'. In such a situation, the majority takes all the decisions that favor them, while compromising the interests of the minority. If three cats and a mouse are voting, the three cats can vote for eating the mouse. But, a constitutional democracy is different in the sense that the authority of the majority is limited by law, so that the rights of the minorities are respected. The power is distributed among various branches of the government. Moreover, there are checks and balances in place that ensure that there is no abuse of power. The elections in a constitutional democracy are scheduled after a fixed period of time, and the power is transferred regularly. On the other hand, in a republic, the government is limited by the constitution or the law and should recognize the sovereignty of the individual. The concept of a republic pushes the idea ... The electors assemble on the Monday after the second Wednesday in December in their homes states to cast their votes (History.com, 2010). The votes are counted by Congress on January 6 of the following year (History.com, 2010). The Congress shall have the power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article. Section 3. This amendment shall take effect two years after the date of ratification." • 35. Mexican Culture : Mexican American Culture Mexican–American Culture Many immigrants come to the United States from all over the world. Some bring their families, some their prized possessions, others come with nothing but determination and the goal of a better life. One thing that every immigrant brings with them is their culture. One of the most dominant minority cultures in the United States is the Mexican culture. The US shares a border with Mexico making it easier for immigrants to stay in contact with their families in their home country and more closely connected to their culture. In 2014, 64 percent of Hispanic people in the United States identify as Mexican("FFF: Hispanic Heritage Month 2015." US Census Bureau. N.p., 14 Sept. 2015. Web. 10 Dec. 2016.). A Mexican–American is a person born in Mexico or a person born in the United States whose family of origin immigrated from Mexico. Many people assume being Mexican is an ethnicity, it is not. A good example is an American immigrating to another country and identifying as American, it is a nationality not an ethnicity. A Mexican can be of any ethnic background and still be considered Mexican as long as they or their family of origin come from Mexico. The majority of Mexicans are a blend of of Indigenous, (Mayan, Nahuatl, Yucatec, Tzotzil, Mixtec, Zapotec, Otomi, Huichol, Totonac) Spaniard and European. I believe in order for health care or the medical field to succeed in the future that social contract should be enforced. By enforcing social contract, it will allow health care to be more efficient by allowing individuals to assume responsibility for their own healthy by having the ability to ensure health. According to The Enduring Democracy book, " from the philosophy of Jean– Jacques Rousseau, an agreement people make with one another to form a government and abide by its rules and laws, an in return the government promises to protect the people's rights and welfare and promote their best interest" (Dautrich, 7). • 39. Persuasive Essay On Childhood Obesity A Deeper Look into Childhood Obesity The percentage of children with obesity in the United States has more than tripled since the 1970s ("Healthy Schools."). Childhood obesity is a medical condition that affects children and teenagers who contain excess body fat. This condition is very common today, having about 3 million cases per year ("Healthy Schools."). A sign that a child is suffering from obesity is when their weight is well above the average for a child's height and age. Today about one in five school children, ages 6–19, are obese ("Healthy Schools."). I will be addressing the causes, health complications, treatments, controversy, and supporting obese students. First and foremost, the most common causes of childhood obesity are genetic factors, overeating, and not exercising enough. Although obesity may run in a family, it does not determine whether a child will be obese or not ("Obesity in Children"). If a child who comes from a family of obesity, happens to become overweight like them, the likely cause is due to bad eating and activity habits. Many children today spend more time inside the house eating and watching television, rather than being active outdoors ("Obesity in Children"). This is due to the recent popularity of having electronics such as television, games, and phones serve as entertainment. Another reason for the excessive eating is because parents are often too busy to cook healthy foods on a regular basis, leaving children to rely on fast food or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. The Strengths And Weaknesses Of The OAIS Strengths and Weaknesses of the OAIS In addition to the benefits and flaws addressed in Schumann and Recker's study of the GESIS Data Archive, the OAIS model has additional strengths and weakness worth noting. One such strength of the model is its use of a controlled vocabulary, which has helped improve communication among information professionals. Schumann and Recker write that the terminology the model employs is helpful because it is compiled with terms "that are not already overloaded with meaning, so as to reduce conveying of unintended meanings." Furthermore, the model attempts to explain basic concepts, relationships, and processes that are common to the field of digital preservation. Similar to its use of a set vocabulary, the detailed understanding of concepts provided by the model offers professionals a common ground of understanding which promotes better communication, discussion, and collaboration. According to Lee, this common ground allows professionals to "consolidate understanding of the needs and requirements of digital preservation." There are also economic benefits that can result from widespread compliancy to the OAIS model. In his writing from the early days of the OAIS' creation, Lavoie predicted that the model, with its standardization of concepts and processes, has the potential to create monetary savings through the use of shared system components, while also promoting a broad market for the development of such software. Another weakness of the OAIS is that users often forget to acknowledge that the concept is merely a reference model. Schumann and Recker note that a reference model is only an abstract framework, and "it is not directly tied to any standards, technologies, or other concrete implementation details." Because it is more of a guideline, it is technically impossible to implement the OAIS, and users must instead aim to conform or comply to its concepts. Schumann and Recker further note that the model "will not translate into a real–world system seamlessly," and that methods of compliance can vary on an institution by institution basis . Tarvo Kärberg discusses "completing" the OAIS model to ensure that each institution can, in fact, create a system out of the model ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Civil Liberties And Civil Rights 1 McGahey 3 Megan McGahey Sherry Sharifian GOVT 2305 71430 20 September 2017 Civil Liberties vs. Civil Rights In the U.S. most use the terms Civil Liberties and Civil Rights interchangeably; although they both protect the freedom of citizens they do this in different ways. 2 Civil Liberties are limitations placed on the government. These are things the government is restricted to do, by the constitution. Things that could interfere with personal freedom. 3 For example, the 1st amendment says that no law can be made establishing a set religion. (Course, 2015) Therefore no laws can be made pertaining to a set religion. Civil liberties can be seen as broader laws, placed against the government. 2 Whereas Civil Rights are almost like curbs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I believe that as I grow older my civil rights will come to protect me more due to older age and being a woman. The first case I analyzed was the Weaver v. Massachusetts case. It involved a petitioner who was convicted of murder. He was tried in a Massachusetts court, in which the courtroom could not accommodate all the jurors. All non– eligible jurors were asked to leave including the petitioner 's mother and her minister. The case included "a Sixth Amendment violation" (Weaver, 2017). The sixth amendment states "all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial" (Staff, 2010). A public trail states that "friends and relatives of a defendant must be initially permitted to attend trial" (Public, 2008). Since the court did not allow the defendant 's mother to stay due to space, they therefore broke the sixth amendment. This misjustice classifies as a violation of the civil liberties due to the fact that it violates a constitutional amendment that places a limitation strictly on our government. 5 The second case that I analyzed was the Advocate Health Care Network vs. Stapleton case. 6 The case involved the "Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974" (Advocate, 2017). This act was set up to help private employers; it offered them pension plans. They were told if they followed the rules and guidelines of the plan it would "plan solvency and protect plan participants." (Advocate, 2017) There was an exception to this ...
