Persuasive Electoral College
The United States is globally recognized as a democratic nation, granting voting rights to its citizens
that place the power of government in their hands. This power is held dear by U.S. citizens
nationwide, as well as other nations who strive for democracy and recognition. Unfortunately, this
universally recognized right is quite erroneous. The United States uses a system called the Electoral
College to elect the President and Vice President. This system consists of 538 electors that choose
the President for the people – nullifying the concept of democracy. Therefore, the United States
should abandon the Electoral College system for Presidential elections because it places the power
of government in the hands or politicians and political machines, while revoking power from the
hands of the citizens – from the hands of the people.
On the Tuesday after the first Monday in November, millions of Americans head to voting booths to
cast their vote for the Presidential candidate of their choice. People worldwide assume that these
votes go directly to the individual's candidate of choice, but this assumption is principally incorrect.
According to the National Archives and Records Administration, "You help choose your state's
electors when you vote for President because when you vote for your candidate you are actually
voting for your candidate's electors." (archives.gov) As a result, the American people have no direct
power in the election of the President of the United States.

The late 12th century was plagued by one of the most corrupt governments of all known history. The
government of England was unorganized and corrupt due to the nearly unlimited power held by

is a document that challenged the authority of the king, forcing him to the rule of the law and

The electoral college has not changed since its conception in the first congressional convention in
1836. Even then, many of the pre–existing things are vague and cryptic such as in the constitution
the electoral college is only referenced once in article II. Article II–1 of the U.S. Constitution states
"The executive Power shall be vested in a President of the United States of America. He shall hold

Was "Separate but Equal" really equal? In many states colored people were not treated equal, many
were discriminated against and many children were not treated fairly. Their schools and learning

A Deeper Look into Childhood Obesity The percentage of children with obesity in the United States
has more than tripled since the 1970s ("Healthy Schools."). Childhood obesity is a medical
condition that affects children and teenagers who contain excess body fat. This condition is very
common today, having about 3 million cases per year ("Healthy Schools."). A sign that a child is
suffering from obesity is when their weight is well above the average for a child's height and age.
Today about one in five school children, ages 6–19, are obese ("Healthy Schools."). I will be
addressing the causes, health complications, treatments, controversy, and supporting obese students.
First and foremost, the most common causes of childhood obesity are genetic factors, overeating,
and not exercising enough. Although obesity may run in a family, it does not determine whether a
child will be obese or not ("Obesity in Children"). If a child who comes from a family of obesity,
happens to become overweight like them, the likely cause is due to bad eating and activity habits.
Many children today spend more time inside the house eating and watching television, rather than

The Strengths And Weaknesses Of The OAIS
Strengths and Weaknesses of the OAIS In addition to the benefits and flaws addressed in Schumann
and Recker's study of the GESIS Data Archive, the OAIS model has additional strengths and
weakness worth noting. One such strength of the model is its use of a controlled vocabulary, which
has helped improve communication among information professionals. Schumann and Recker write
that the terminology the model employs is helpful because it is compiled with terms "that are not
already overloaded with meaning, so as to reduce conveying of unintended meanings." Furthermore,
the model attempts to explain basic concepts, relationships, and processes that are common to the
field of digital preservation. Similar to its use of a set vocabulary, the detailed understanding of
concepts provided by the model offers professionals a common ground of understanding which
promotes better communication, discussion, and collaboration. According to Lee, this common
ground allows professionals to "consolidate understanding of the needs and requirements of digital
preservation." There are also economic benefits that can result from widespread compliancy to the
OAIS model. In his writing from the early days of the OAIS' creation, Lavoie predicted that the
model, with its standardization of concepts and processes, has the potential to create monetary
savings through the use of shared system components, while also promoting a broad market for the
development of such software. Another weakness of the OAIS is that users often forget to
acknowledge that the concept is merely a reference model. Schumann and Recker note that a
reference model is only an abstract framework, and "it is not directly tied to any standards,
technologies, or other concrete implementation details." Because it is more of a guideline, it is
technically impossible to implement the OAIS, and users must instead aim to conform or comply to
its concepts. Schumann and Recker further note that the model "will not translate into a real–world
system seamlessly," and that methods of compliance can vary on an institution by institution basis .

The first case I analyzed was the Weaver v. Massachusetts case. It involved a petitioner who was
convicted of murder. He was tried in a Massachusetts court, in which the courtroom could not
accommodate all the jurors. All non– eligible jurors were asked to leave including the petitioner 's
mother and her minister. The case included "a Sixth Amendment violation" (Weaver, 2017). The
sixth amendment states "all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and
public trial" (Staff, 2010). A public trail states that "friends and relatives of a defendant must be
initially permitted to attend trial" (Public, 2008). Since the court did not allow the defendant 's
mother to stay due to space, they therefore broke the sixth amendment. This misjustice classifies as
a violation of the civil liberties due to the fact that it violates a constitutional amendment that places
a limitation strictly on our government. 5 The second case that I analyzed was the Advocate Health
Care Network vs. Stapleton case. 6 The case involved the "Employee Retirement Income Security
Act of 1974" (Advocate, 2017). This act was set up to help private employers; it offered them
pension plans. They were told if they followed the rules and guidelines of the plan it would "plan
