The document discusses potential topics for a documentary project focusing on social pressures. It considers plastic surgery, makeup in the workplace, the influences of social media, and pressures of beauty as options. It ultimately decides that doing a documentary on the pressures of beauty would be the best choice, as it could provide an overview of those topics and gather information through surveys of college students on their experiences with societal beauty standards and the money spent on cosmetics.
1. We already know that we want to base it
around social pressures
PLASTIC SURGERY
We thought about basing our
documentary on plastic surgery as it
is a huge medium at the moment for
altering appearances. There are lots
of cases we could use and could
potentially get a few interviews for
this. However, it could deem quite
difficult to provide a balanced
argument for this topic are there are
already lots of programmes about
this already.
MAKEUP IN THE
WORKPLACE
We all thought this would be an
interesting topic to cover because
we found from a few of our friends
that they were forced to wear
makeup at work. It is a controversial
topic as it would provide many
contradicting opinions. However, it
could be difficult to gain interviews
because we don’t think that many
companies would own up to making
women wear makeup.
INFLUENCES OF SOCIAL MEDIA
Social media is becoming a very negative place at the
moment and there is now the influence of Instagram
to look a certain way and to look “Instagram worthy”.
Yet, this is another topic which is always covered so it
would be hard to make something outstandingly
original.
PRESSURES OF BEAUTY
This would be a great topic to
cover because it offers a more
general overview. We would be
able to include all of the other
topics within this singular one.
We would discuss how both
men and women feel pressured
to look a certain way and find
out what is the cause of this.
Also for this we could find great
statistics for the amount of
money people spend on
cosmetics as well as finding out
who wears them and what
exactly they wear. This would
be especially good for target
audience research as we have
the ability to ask the college
students.
A-LEVEL AND COLLEGE PRESSURES
This would be an interesting topic to cover as it is relevant to the audience we are surrounded
by in college. From looking across more TV channels and existing documentaries we can see
that there isn’t a lot of documentaries that include stress for students. The ones that do cover
this are usually biased and tell us not to worry. We would be able to gain a proper insight to
how college students actually find A-Levels. However, we are trying to appeal to a larger
audience and not all of our target audience would be in college or any form of education.
