1. Codes and Conventions
There a quite a few codes and conventions that the producers follow wen
creating a trailer for their film. In this case, I will be following codes and
conventions for the horror genre.
Firstof all the setting, in horror the victims are usually isolated or have few
people around when there are tense moments. The atmosphereis always dark
and scary which symbolises loneliness, fear, mystery and death. When filming
the clips for my project I will be following mostif not all of these codes and
conventions, making the mise en scene look as mysterious as possibleto
hopefully create some enigma.
The main actors are always shown themost throughoutthe trailer which helps
the viewer’s understand who thecharacters are and vaguely what happens in
the film. There should be a lot of dramatic camera shots also; getting different
angles of the character will show more. I am adding a paranormaltheme into
my choice of genre so I need to include sudden signs of ghosts by including
jump scares.
Editing the clips together in a way that will intrigue yet scarethe audience is
the mostimportant part of the process. Normally the trailer contains a few
clips fromthe beginning, middle and end, most of the clips and he ‘best’ clips
which entices he viewers. When editing the trailer I will be adding shorter clips
together to create suspensewhen something dramatic is about to happen,
adding certain music to this partwill indicate the terrifying moment coming up
in the trailer.
