use new media technologies
in the construction and
research, planning and
evaluation stages?

2. Research and Planning
Communication:
In the planning and research stage of our music video, technology played a
very important role for us. It largely helped us with communication when
organising our shooting days; where we’re going at what time and taking
which equipment and outfits etc, therefore making it quick and easy to
organise ourselves making the overall process simpler. This technology being
our iPhones, they allow us to communicate in several ways; texting and making
calls for example. The most beneficial use for us was having the ability to have
a group text conversation through iMessage, so everyone was involved
therefore was the most efficient way of organising things and making decisions
when we weren’t all together. It also allowed us to send images of locations
and outfits. Plus, we could send videos and YouTube links to share ideas for our
music video; all very important factors for our research and planning.
3. Research and Planning
Our smartphones allowed us to hold a group conversation for situations like
this; we’d finally decided on Rita Ora’s Hot Right Now however Georgia
had done some extra research and found a song she preferred and
thought our footage would fit the real media conventions better to our
genre of dance music.
5. Research and Planning
Weather:
As shown in the texts, a vital part of planning was checking the weather.
The weather would effect our filming majorly as we intend for lots of
sunshine to fit the conventions of an upbeat dance track. We finally
decided on one of the last days in half term as it was sunny and we had a
full day to shoot and ensure we collected all the footage necessary.
We tried to avoid any predicted rainy days; with the app on our iPhones
we were able to select suitable days, or if the forecasts changed we could
always reschedule. Overall we were lucky on our shooting day in the city.
6. Research and Planning
Travel:
We used the ‘Journey Planner’
webpage to plan our travel, allowing us
to check the route we needed to take
and times we could depart. We chose
to buy a travel card as this would work
out cheaper than topping up our oyster
cards, this way we could get on any bus
or train throughout the day and not
have to worry about the money as it
was all pre-paid. We went from Romford
Station, to Liverpool Street and travelled
on the underground for the remainder
of the day as it was an easy commute.
7. Construction
The camera we used to film our music video was an iPhone, unfortunately we didn’t
have the high tech equipment to film on a high resolution camera. However we still
made the best of it and could get the best shots from our own knowledge. Then for
editing we used Pinnacle, editing software made available to us at school, although
filters are limited we could still edit our video as professional as possible creating an
original piece of film. Due to the perfect weather we had on filming days, we was
lucky we didn’t need special effects to make the day look brighter as it was a
perfect summers day already. We used features on our video such as fastening up
clips to emphasise the excitement of our artist.
For our Ancillary tasks we used Microsoft Publisher and Photoshop to make our
Digipak and Magazine advert, with Photoshop being ‘The world’s most advanced
image editing app lets you enhance, retouch and manipulate photographs and
other images in any way you can imagine.’ We thought it was the best option for us
when creating our designs to ensure they’re attractive and to a high standard.
8. Construction
Social Networking:
We used a variety of social networking sites, such as Twitter,
Instagram and YouTube, throughout the making of our music
video.
During our research and planning YouTube was particularly useful
for us as we used other artists’ music videos as inspirations to help
us develop our ideas for the storyline, narrative, costumes, make-
up and locations. YouTube allowed us to even take screenshots
which we then added to our work within the planning so we could
always refer back to them when needed.
Our main inspiration was Rita Ora, so we focused our ideas on
some from her previous music videos. If we ever need to refer back
for more effective ideas we were able to use our phones or school
computers to gather research on YouTube.
9. Evaluation
Throughout the evaluation
process Instagram was used to
gain feedback, by posting
teaser footage and adding
hashtags to reach a wider
audience. We also received
comments from teenage girls
(our intended audience)
which gave us some idea that
we was appealing to the right
people.
10. Evaluation
We also used major
social networking
site, Twitter, we
could show off
location ideas and
build a relationship
with our audience
so they could feel a
part of the filming
process.
