The document discusses the use of media technologies in the construction and research, planning, and evaluation stages of a music video project. A Canon 1100D camera and tripod were used to film stationary and panning shots. Adobe Premiere Pro was used for video editing and Adobe Photoshop for ancillary tasks. Blogger was used to record planning and research, and YouTube was used to research genre conventions, view other music videos, and upload and receive feedback on the final piece. Additional online research included using Google Earth and weather reports, with phones used to message cast and record audience feedback.
1. Evaluation question 4: How did you
use media technologies in the
construction and research, planning
and evaluation stages.
2. Equipment
To shoot our music video we used a cannon 1100D. We chose the cannon because it was the
highest resolution camera we had available and also because the shots we we’re filming
we’re mainly stationary with some panning and tracking shots. There was not a lot of
movement therefore we did not choose a camcorder to film. Alongside the camera we used
a tripod, we used the tripod in majority of the shots as they had little movement in and
needed to be steady. Although the camera is quite high tech and has a lot of options and
toggles on it, it was fairly easy to use and had a large bitterly life. I think that our choice of
camera was good and I would definitely use the same one if I had to film it again.
3. Editing
The main technology used for our editing was adobe premier pro. This was extremely helpful as
it allowed us to directly edit the footage with relative ease. It allowed us to correct and adjust
the colour of our shoots and add special effects and transitions in (although that was a bit more
difficult.) I also used YouTube a lot for reference and tutorials which showed me how to do
certain things instead of struggling and using more time that I needed to.
We used adobe Photoshop to create our ancillary tasks because it has a lot of different options,
tools and settings that allow you to create a verity of different effects that would be extremely
difficult to do with another program. After exporting the shots from premier we began to edit
them in Photoshop with relative ease.
4. Planning and Research
To record our planning and research we used www.blogger.com. To research the codes and
conventions of our genre and look at music videos with the same genre we mainly used
YouTube. This allowed us to view other peoples content, get a good idea of the codes and
conventions but also allowed us to see comments and feedback from the same target audience
we we’re aiming for which would allow us to see what they liked and disliked about the codes
and conventions. The final piece was also uploaded to YouTube which allowed us to see how
popular it was and what feedback people gave it. We also used the internet for various things
during planning such as using Google earth to scout out possible locations, weather reports to
see what the weather was like on certain days and social media to get feed back from our
audience and see if they liked our ideas. As well as these online features we also used our
phones to message each over and the cast so we could quickly organise shooting and we also
used them to record the voices of the people giving audience feedback. (we recorded instead of
filming because we found most people in our target audience preferred not to be seen on film.
