“Survival 101… Who Makes the Cut?” Paper
My group chose to keep the scientist, the doctor, the army officer, and the 5 year old girl.
We kept the scientist, who we chose to assume is a male, because most scientists are smart. He
could potentially help grow things in the greenhouse or help find a cure/vaccination for the
Avian Flu. We kept the doctor, who we chose to be a female, because you always need a doctor.
Even in the new world they will need doctors. She could also assist in finding a cure for the flu.
We also thought that maybe the doctor and the scientist could have children, and they both could
teach them since they have to be smart and knowledgeable about many things because of their
occupations. The army officer would help keep everyone safe. He would know how to ration
things to make them last, being in the army, and he would be useful in teaching order in the new
world. The 5 year old girl would be a good choice to keep because she is so young. They could
teach her things to do to help around the bunker, but most importantly, she could assist in the
development of the new world in the years after they can begin building it back up again because
of her long life span. We don’t know for certain how old the scientist, doctor, and army officer
are, but it is safe to assume they are at least in their mid to late thirties. The 5 year old girl could,
later on, have children with the scientist and doctors children to help continue populating the
world.
We decided to not keep the priest because, assuming he is Catholic, he cannot have kids.
The married couple who are hippies and drug addicts would not be good to keep around because
they are drug addicts and will go through withdraws in the bunker. Also, just because they are
drug addicts does not mean they know how to grow anything, and even if they did it would old
2. be weed with is not food or good for you. We didn’t keep the single pregnant women because
she is one person and her new baby makes two, if you can old have 4 people in the bunker it is
not smart for one of the to be a new born baby. The elderly women would not be able to help
much with anything, most old people are slow and she does not have much life left anyway. She
could die while in the bunker, then what would the other three people do with her body? A
disabled person, just like the elderly women, could not do much to help. A lawyer is not needed
because nobody will be suing anyone while in the bunker. The last welfare dependent is lazy and
would not help at all, he/she would just want everything handed to them. Finally, the university
professor is not needed because just about anything they could teach the children the doctor or
scientist could too.
