Amway in China
Amway in China (A): A New Business ModelAssignment Questions1.What are Amway's core competencies?Amway has been a successfully growing
business since 1959 due to its unique adaptation of direct marketing. The company has now expanded into over 80 countries and has been to some, an
example of the American dream. This was what caused the tremendous growth and is what gave Amway its most valuable asset; its distributors.
Amway's distributors are all Independent Business Owners (IBOs) because they have no legal ties to Amway other than they buy the products directly
and sign a brief code of conduct agreement. This however does not mean that IBOs are not extremely loyal to Amway.
IBOs are literally the foundation of Amway's pyramid shaped ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Amway is similar to other direct marketing companies such as Dell Computers in that it reduces product costs to consumers by bypassing retailers.
Dell is also similar to Amway because by dealing directly with consumers it can find out exactly what the consumer needs without incurring consumer
research costs that will be passed onto the consumer. Although Amway did not invent direct marketing it has been said that it reinvented it. Therefore
Amway is unlike most companies that use direct marketing. Amway's direct marketing design resembles a pyramid but it not however a pyramid
scheme or a ponzi scheme. A ponzi scheme is a illegal operation that promises high returns on short term investments. It continues with investors
keeping their money in the investments thinking they are making large sums of money. News spreads to others who also invest and the amount
collected continues to grow. If a few people decide to get out they are paid in order to disguise the scheme. Unfortunately for those who keep their
money invested, they will never see any profits or perhaps their initial investment again. This is unlike a pyramid scheme because there are no levels
of entry. A person who gets involved first does not collect more money than someone who gets in last. Pyramid schemes are characterized by costly
start up costs, requirements to purchase products with virtually no value, promises of exponential

Abstract
Purpose – The purpose of this article is to examine the bottom of the pyramid (BOP) proposition, where private companies can both be proп¬Ѓtable
and help alleviate poverty by attending low–income consumers.
Design/methodology/approach – The literature on BOP was reviewed and some key elements of the BOP approach were proposed and examined.
Findings – There is no agreement in the literature about the potential beneп¬Ѓts of the BOP approach for both private companies and ... Show more

Those studies portray the poor as motivated by similar desires as the rich. They want quality products and any company that can supply those products
at the right price will gain their business. Some of the case studies show the strategies for reducing the effective price of products through packaging
and developing lower cost sizes.
Prahalad and others describe the untapped potential of the
BOP, and list strategies that companies may use to tap that potential. An opposing branch of the literature (Karnani, 2007a;
Martinez and Carbonell, 2007) analyzes the nature of the
BOP market, the applicability of the case studies that

Pyramid Door Case Analysis
I. Problem statement Which strategy should Pyramid Door, Inc. implement, along with increased advertising for 100 dealers to achieve the sales goal
of $12.5 million for the year of 2006? The four strategic options are increasing the number of non–exclusive dealers by 100, developing a formal
executive franchise with 27 dealers so they would exclusively sell Pyramid Door products, reduce the number of non–exlusive dealers by 100, and the
last plan was to only do a better job with current distribution policy and network. II. Industry Analysis A. National industry analysis: In the residential
garage door industry sales are projected to be $2.25 billion representing a 2.4% increase. There are several large national ... Show more content on

Steel garage doors were preferred to wood garage door by a 9 to 1 margin. With everything being said, it is important to be available in as many stores
as possible so consumers don't have to seek out Pyramid Door brand garage doors and they can find them just by walking around a store. In 2005
the residential garage door industry sales were expected to reach $2.2 billion with 90% of sales being steel garage doors. Demand for replacement
garage doors was driven by the continued aging of the housing stock and the conversion of homeowners from wood doors to lighter weight,
easier–to–maintain steel doors. Also, product innovations such as insulated steel doors, new springing systems, and residential garage doors with
improved safety features have made steel doors increasingly popular. B. Industry analysis in Pyramid's trade area: Pyramid Door's projected
market share for 2005 was 2.6%. Independent dealers typically sold 3 different brands and there was a clearly dominant brand which accounted for
60% of total garage door sales, the second brand which accounted for 30% of sales, and the weakest brand which accounted for 10% of sales. Since
there are 50 exclusive dealers serving 50 markets and 300 non–exclusive dealers serving 100 markets that means that there are 3 non–exclusive dealers
per market. Exclusive dealers accounted for 70% of total

Corporate Social Responsibilities : Carroll 's Pyramid
Model 1. Carroll's Pyramid
Carroll (1991) organized different corporate social responsibilities as a four–layered pyramid model and called it the pyramid of responsibilities. The
four different responsibilities – economical, legal, ethical and philanthropic are the layers of the pyramid. Corporate social responsibility involves the
conduct of a business so that it is economically profitable, law abiding, ethical and socially supportive. To be socially responsible then means that
profitability and obedience to the law are foremost conditions when discussing the firm's ethics and the extent to which it supports the society in which
it exists with contributions of money, time and talent". And the different layers in the pyramid help managers... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This model is relating to Primark. Primark source globally, they don't have their own factories that make their own products. They work with
around 700 suppliers and all of their suppliers are from China, India and Bangladesh to Turkey and Eastern Europe. They take worker welfare
seriously and they make sure that suppliers must follow the Code of Conduct to make products in good working conditions. Every factory of the
suppliers is carefully inspected against the code before Primark replace and order with a supplier. If there is an any issues or problems they find in the
products they will sent their inspected team to check all the products.
Model 2. Mintzberg conceptual Horseshoe (1984) This model is relating to RBS where they said that RBS believes every decision and action is
shaped by the purpose, vision and the value of RBS. RBS purpose is to serve their customers well and do the right things which includes,
environmental, social, and ethical risks. Building a more sustainable RBS by putting customers first. RBS strategy based on customers trusting this

Pyramid Schemes
Scams are happening all around us, and we often don't even notice them. Pyramid schemes are very harmful towards investors, and are hard to watch
out for unless you know exactly what they are, why they fail, the effect of the failure, common victims, how to avoid them, and how to prevent them
from spreading. More individuals are hurt than are helped when dealing with these scams. Individuals should be more informed about pyramid
schemes, because they can be easily disguised.
Participating in scams, will more than likely lead to a loss in money. "A pyramid scheme is a get–rich–quick business fraud that usually hurts investors
in the end" ("Pyramid Schemes"). "Pyramid schemes need a constant supply of new participants in order to survive, ... Show more content on

These schemes can also hurt the economy because of the loans taken out to pay off for the starter kits needed to recruit new members. If the scheme
collapses, individuals could fall into poverty and lose their possessions. Relationships could also be broken if people start recruiting friends and/or
spouses into the scheme. Pyramid schemes have caused divorces and suicides because of the broken trust between the bonds.
Select victims are usually chosen for pyramid schemes. Individuals with certain types of personalities are more likely to get drawn into a scheme. One
common target for scammers, says Swierczynski, is the "easygoing people–pleaser". "It's the kind of person who would rather buy an entire new sump
pump system than insult a stranger" (Hobson). In this case, it pays not to be so friendly and to stand up for yourself by saying no (Hobson). Con
artists are good at figuring out what pushes an individual off the edge, and they use that against him/her. Individuals, who are lonely, vulnerable, or
desperate, make scamming more accessible. People in dire straits are also very vulnerable to scams (Hobson). Those who are vulnerable might have
recently had a tragic death in the family or are in uncontrollable debt (Hobson). Leaders of these schemes also look for people who wear their heart
and brain on their sleeve (Hobson). Individuals who talk about what's going on in their lives with people they don't know

The Madoff Case Hickery
Investing in the market or different ventures are an opportunity for many American citizens to acquire wealth, separate from the income earned from a
salaried job. Regardless of whether an individual has $10,000 or $1 million, there are opportunities to invest in a range of sources where returns on
investments can be either in the long–term or short–term. There is opportunity to invest in traditional sources like Gold or recent popular stocks such
as Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat. In those cases the returns were ten fold and the original investors believe in the success of the product in the
long–term. Individuals who chose not to invest but to sell products to make a secondary source of income. However, there are major risks when

The most obvious problem with detecting is no one in a part of the scheme is willing to do due diligence and internal reporting. The values of a
company are an important indicator of the practices which benefits all participants as a whole(shareholders, employees, public). Companies that
promote Corporate Social Responsibility believe that disclosure and transparency are just as important as profits. "Firms that stake a claim in CSR
view their responsibilities as extending to a wide variety of disclosures and social reporting (e.g., the triple bottom line–social, environmental, and
financial; Council on Economic Priorities[...]" (Laufer, 2010). The willingness of a company in disclosing financial information and reporting, helps
shareholders as well as regulators determine whether or not there is illegal activity within the company. There can be a growing trust of financial
institutions from shareholders, regulators and the public if more companies practice corporate social responsibility on a consistent basis. For
example, if Bernie Madoff had to disclose all of his reports to investors and regulators, then there would have been a chance that he would have not
succeeded in duping for as long as he did. As recent as 2014, companies defined as either pyramid schemes or multi–level marketing programs have

John Wooden On Leadership And The Wooden's Pyramid Of Success
Introduction:
Leadership is an action of leading a group of people or an organization. For the purpose of the report, I will be looking at John Wooden on
leadership and the Wooden's Pyramid of Success. I will be reflecting on how the Wooden's philosophy of what leadership should be relates to today's
business environment. I will be discussing the pyramid of success, looking at various building blocks and see how that holds together and how it can
help anyone to achieve whatever they want to achieve in life.
I will also be analyzing how the coaching philosophy of John Wooden and the Pyramid of Success can be use in today's projects. John Wooden said,

I remember when I joined in the 90s the team was very welcoming and I could see the enthusiastic about what they do, very cooperative and the team
spirit was very high. The other thing that I saw was how loyal the employees were in everything they did, they are always will go that extra mile for
the company.
I.Firstly, the company invested so much money on the people to improve the employees' skills and there were lots of specialized management training
courses for team leaders and managers to lead effectively. John Wooden said in his book Wooden onleadership "Mastery of the skills you need in your
job requires learning and it is why leaders and those who are high achievers are lifelong learners. I had this motto tacked on my office wall for many
years: "It 's what you learn after you know it all that counts." (Wooden, 2005)
II.Secondly, Loyalty was a big thing for Nokia to grow and became a leader. The company took very good care of the employees, the benefit was
so good that must people would like to work for Nokia. They were one of the first companies to introduce profit sharing with the employees in
Europe. We all so believed in Jorma Ollila the then Nokia CEO that loyalty was a common thing amongst the employees. Wooden mentioned is his
book that "a leader who has Loyalty is the leader whose team I wish to be a part" (Wooden, 2005).

Cyber Security : A New Form Of Crime
Cyber Security is considered to be one of the hot topics in modern era. It is a national security challenge that the United States and other countries
face today. Cyber Security is an important factor to be considered if one is to be able to protect oneself from malicious people and software from the
internet. While the Internet has been providing immense opportunities to individuals, organizations, and nations in diverse areas, at the same time it
has also given birth to a new form of crime – cybercrime. This case study is about an Indian company named Pyramid Cyber Security (P) Ltd, which
specializes in digital crime, fraud and forensic solutions and services in India. This company provides solutions for digital forensics and security
projects for agencies in law enforcement, the public sector and corporate organizations. However, with more and more organizations moving towards
cloud computing for their applications, cyber security throws up a different challenge for Pyramid. This challenge put Pyramid into the dilemma of
whether they should focus on their existing business or explore new opportunities in cloud forensics. Additionally, they also in doubts whether to offer
pre–incident or post–incident digital network security architecture. Alok Gupta, the founder and managing director of Pyramid Cyber Security (P) Ltd,

White Collar Crimes: The Pyramid Scheme And Ponzi Scheme
A Ponzi scheme and a pyramid scheme are white collar crimes, that have been around for about a century. While they both differ in many ways, they
also share many characteristics. They are both a form of fraud and while most white collar workers commit fraud through Ponzi schemes and pyramid
schemes, almost anyone can commit these types of fraud. A Ponzi scheme is when the criminal, often someone that is trusted, respected, and is already
successful makes a promise to investors to invest their money into stock but does not actually invest the money at all. Many times these white collar
criminals use the money for their lavish lifestyle or to feed their own side business ventures. They often promise a consistent, high return on their
investment, which can come off as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Madoff. Madoff was highly respected and was considered a talented and successful market genius. While it was uncovered that there were losses of
$65 billion, Madoff has confessed that he made no where near that amount. He was able to pull such a notorious Ponzi scheme because of his respected
name and his "invite–only" method for investors, making it seem as if the investments were legitimate (Ferrell, et. al., 2017). A pyramid scheme,
however, is also fraud but different in terms of how investors actually become investors. Pyramid schemes require individuals to pay an upfront fee
to join and promises that they will gain a return depending on how many other individuals they can get to join. This may cause some confusion to
people on whether a business is legit or a pyramid scheme. One of the main flags that a business can be a pyramid scheme, is if one must pay to
join. Another red flag, is if one is not making returns on the products they sell or if the products they sell are of no value. Pyramid schemes usually
collapse quicker than Ponzi schemes as pyramid schemes require more and more individuals to join without any major push of a product being

Corporate Social Responsibility Definition
This research study is about what the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is, how people define and how I understand this term? According to
my research and observations, CSR does not have only one and constant definition. I have read a lot of definitions of CSR and in fact, they are
similar but not the same. Briefly, definition and understanding of CSR depends on person to person. Thus, I am going to talk about definitions of the
CSR and I will define my own perspective about the CSR. As I mentioned, CSR does not have one definition. There is huge amount of CSR
definitions published by business world and economists. For example, "CSR is about how companies manage the business processes to produce an

THE PYRAMID OF CORPORATESOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
According to Archie Caroll, who found CSR pyramid, there are 4 aspects of Corporate Social Responsibilities which is divided in Economic, Legal,
Ethical and Philanthropic Responsibilities. Corporate Citizens are expected to be profitable, be abiding the laws, be ethical and be charitable to
society. (Carrol, July–Aug. 1991.) This pyramid reflects what the CSR is by defining the responsibilities of the corporations in four different stages.
First level is Economic responsibilities of the corporations which refers the corporations' main goal, making or being profitable. Second step Legal
Responsibilities, this stage explains how the corporations act when they do business, obey the laws and follow the rules. Third part of the pyramid is
about Ethical responsibilities of the corporations. This step reflects being ethical. On the other word, what the right and wrong is. In addition,
Corporations should avoid unfair and non–ethical actions in the society. Finally, top of the pyramid reflects being good corporate citizen. I think, it
suggests corporations should follow the laws and rules, pay the taxes, do the right and ethical, and take care of its workers and environment. In my
opinion this pyramid reflects my exact definition about the CSR.

Pyramid schemes in albania essay
1– Introduction
At the beginning of the year's 1990th, with the falling of the communism, many Albanians people went through the foreign embassy to left Albania and
go abroad for a better life. They started to create a real income. In this time we have some mountebanks in the market which created the pyramid
schemes and offered high interest rate. People invested in this scheme their savings. According to the data of the different official institutions, the
number of the Albanian which invested in schemes is increased time after time. Deposits of these schemes take e big part of the GDP. This means that
they have had an important role in our economy.

Sudeoperated as a pyramidal scheme. This was the first scheme that fell on November 1996 and its debt ranged $40–90 million and had no assets.
Other pyramidal schemes were: Kamberi, Silva, Cenaj&Co, ect. All of dates ore taken by Chris Jarvis, 2000: p 11.
2.2–Favorable factors
As we all know Albania was a communist country for many years and has followed a centralized economy under Dictator Enver Hoxha, who isolated
the country from other countries. This made that the process of crossing in open economy has been very difficult for Albanians. The population was
uninformed, uneducated with market structures and the way of how capitalism worked. This fact, the lack of private property and big poverty made
people easily fall prey of these deceptions. (Jarvis, 2000: p.7)
Another factor that has favored the establishment of these schemes was the lack of formal market. There were only 3 banks that operate in the market,
taking deposits and possessed 90% of deposits, which were not reliable intermediary (Bank of Albania, 2003).
The problem with the existing banks was not lower interest rates but the system of payments was inadequate for a simple

Problem Statement
Should Pyramid Door Inc. change their distribution strategy in order to meet their 2006 profit goal of 12.5 million dollars which is 3.4 million dollars
more than the previous year?
Industry Analysis The residential garage door industry is has projected sales of 2.25 billion dollars in 2006 which is a 2.4% increase from the 2.2
billion dollar projected sales in 2005. This shows that there is growth in this industry. 90% of these sales were from steel garage doors rather than
wood. There are 3002 independent garage door dealers, who bring the market size to 348.5 million dollars. Some of Pyramid Door's competitors in
this industry are Overhead Door Corporation, Wayne Dalton Corporation, Amarr Garage Doors, and Raynor Garage Doors. The largest manufacturer in
the United States is Clopay Corporation, which has 2,000 independent dealers and also markets through well–known chains like Home Depot and

Carroll's pyramid of Corporate social responsibility: A...
IntroductionFor the past 27 years, Carroll's corporate social responsibility pyramid (CSR) has been widely used by top management and journals to
better define and explore CSR. The different components in the pyramid help managers see the different types of obligations that society expects of
businesses. It is easily understandable and simple. However, the new challenges faced by corporations in the 21st century have warranted a
re–examination of Carroll's pyramid. Carroll's CSR PyramidCarroll's four part CSR pyramid depicts the economic, legal, ethical and discretionary

(Hopkins, 2006) Multi–national companies (MNC) such as Wal–Mart have revenues which exceed the gross domestic product of nations. MNCs
dominate the global marketplace. Businesses need to expand internationally to remain competitive. Globalization has come to encompass everything
from "factories shifting around" to "international bodies that set the rules for the global economy." It has resulted in the outsourcing of jobs to
less–developed nations. In the United States, jobs in manufacturing are being outsourced to China and India. In a USA Today poll in 2004, 68
percent of Americans felt outsourcing of jobs was bad for the economy. (Carroll and Buchholtz, 2006:293)Companies from banks to
pharmaceuticals operate and compete in a global environment. When MNCs start work in another country, they must fulfil their social
responsibilities in order to be perceived as legitimate. MNCs are caught in dilemmas. For example, if it were to repatriate a large part of its profits,
it would be seen as depriving the host country of wealth. If it were to invest profits locally, it may be perceived to be tightening its control on the
host country's economy. Pay is another sensitive issue. MNCs seem to be exploiting labour with its low wages. However, if it were to pay more to its
employees, local businesses would be hurt in the long run. (Carroll and Buchholtz, 2006: 297–300)MNCs may also be assailed for not adhering to

Major Challenges of Organizational Management
MAJOR CHALLENGES OF ORGANIZATIONAL MANAGEMENT
There are a number of differences between FMC 's Aberdeen and Green River, the two facilities of discussion. One may assume, therefore, that
managerial styles, business practices, and other aspects of business and the employees involved, would be very different from one another. On the
other hand, it is quite possible to use very similar styles of doing business and managing a company, despite differences in the company, as a good
style of managing, and good practices would assist any business in succeeding. Management, employees and productivity being the main focus 's at

Good communication between all management levels and employees is also necessary in keeping any business running efficiently. Again, seeing as
how the Aberdeen facility has already established these practices, and has them running smoothly, they need only to maintain them and increase
innovation with the times.
If I were to use an analogy to describe these two types of managerial styles, I would state that the original style of managing was like a pyramid, and
this new style of managing was a linked chain. The pyramid is dependent on all of its ' members, but there is a definite sense of superiority, as the
higher management levels shrink down in numbers, but tower over all else. This pyramid, upon producing positive results, is viewed by others as
having produced them due to the excellence of the peak of the pyramid, with very little or no recognition at the bottom of said pyramid. The linked
chain on the other hand, though still managed with upper and lower levels, reacts more as a team, giving those involved more recognition for their
accomplishments. People who are recognized as such, and appreciated for their individual strengths, may be more likely to utilize these strengths and
feel that they are a part of the company, rather than a pawn of the company. There is something very positive to be said for this type of thinking, if
everyone on the Earth felt

Maslow 's Theory Of Motivation Based On A Holistic Approach
Maslow dealt with the psychological growth process, considered man as a biological organism, and began his study with the theory of motivation based
on a holistic approach. The holistic approach paints a multidimensional whole picture of a person integrating the physical, mental, and spiritual through
a growth perspective. According to Sengupta (2011), "Maslow defines growth as the continuous development of talents, capacities, creativity, wisdom
and character, the various processes, which bring the person toward ultimate self–actualization" (p. 102). Maslow did not ignore the spiritual
dimension, but mainly focused on the biological nature of man. He believed the entire person, not just part of him is motivated. "Maslow's
motivational theory is based on the idea that human behavior is controlled through a number of developing fundamental needs that operates in a
fixed sequence and needs are defined as a condition of deficit" (Sengupta, 2011, p. 102). Needs are not always caused by shortfalls, however, they
may be founded on an individual's understanding of inner strength and high ethical standards in order to understand their maximum potential.
Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs pyramid consists of five basic levels of needs, progressing from physiological, safety, social, esteem, and
self–actualization. According to Robbins and Judge (2014), physiological and safety needs are lower levels needs that are predominantly satisfied
externally whereas social, esteem, and

very close to what has been used since then. In 1988 the groups were formed into a picture that could show what they were trying to say. A

Comparing Herbalife And Burnlounge
Pyramid schemes have been a problem for the federal government since 1967 and continue today (Walsh, 2016). The right to recruit others and the
right to sell products are two of the most common and important characteristics related to illegal pyramid schemes (Walsch, 2016). In a comparison of
Herbalife and BurnLounge, both direct marketing companies accused of pyramid schemes, there are several key differences between the two
companies. These differences can be seen in both of the areas of the right to recruit and the right to sell. While Herbalife promoted recruitment of
participants, that was not the primary source of income. Also, they had appropriate sales quotas to support the incentives associated with the
participants. There are several ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The primary payout comes from recruiting others into the program, and not necessarily from the sales of the products. This shell game places the
burden on the participant to constantly be recruiting new participants instead of actually selling the products. The test for demonstration of pyramid
schemes has two different primary factors that are evaluated. Is the company primarily making money off of recruits that purchase sales packages and
must those participants recruit other participants to be able to make any money? BurnLounge was proven to be primarily based on recruiting new
members and getting them to purchase sales packages instead of the sales of the products. Failure to disclose that most investors actually lose money
was part of the downfall of the BurnLounge system as well. The investigation into illegal activity centered on the evaluation of sales activity and
recruits. Unfortunately, it took 7 years to shut down BurnLounge, which delayed the protection of an estimated 30,000 salespeople that were roped into
the scam. Multilevel marketing should not vow large earnings from recruiting, charge large start–up fees, or compensate primarily from recruiting fees

The bottom of the pyramid represents the largest, and poorest social economical segment of the population. Some companies are seeing great

Since the topic of this essay has to do with the BoP market, it is relevant to understand what the bottom of the pyramid represents. The bottom of the

Since the term "poor" can be very vague, the bottom of the pyramid represents the population who live with less than $2.50 a day and are excluded

The First Level Of The Pyramid
The first level of the Pyramid is in regards to the economic responsibilities. The original responsibility of companies was to provide goods and
services, which consumers wanted, and make profit from that provision. This is the primary motivation for companies to be created. All the other
responsibilities are built on the economic responsibility, as the company could not exist if it was not making profit. Legal responsibilities are at the
second level of the Pyramid in terms of the historical development, but they are just as important as economic responsibilities. This means that the
company has to conform with the laws and regulations provided by governmental institutions, which means that it has to pursue its economic plan as
long as it operates within the framework of the law. Ethical responsibilities involve activities and practices, which are either expected or prohibited by
key stakeholders, but the company is not obligated to follow these by law. The company finds itself in a continuous state of development as it tries to
adjust to changing ethics or values in society. These are often proposed by NGOs who are fighting for the environment, workers' rights, consumer
movements, etc. These changing norms and ethics often precede the law and can be difficult to deal with for companies as stakeholders often have
higher standards for companies than required by the current law, therefore making this level in constant interaction with the legal responsibilities. In

Marketing Process Of Any Product Or Service
The marketing process of any product or service begins with potential consumers; it is a customer–centric environment which primary function seeks to
fulfil the needs and wants of each individual customer (Sheth, Sisodia, Sharma, 2000, p.55). It is these 'wants' that marketers have to identify and
manipulate to turn them into a need and subsequently a sale, "people have narrow, basic needs but almost unlimited wants" (Kotler, Armstrong, Wong,
& Saunders, 2008, p.9). The majority of the population may have unlimited wants however they also have limited resources so value for money is a
crucial factor in the process of turning potential customers into consumers. Understanding the market is therefore the first step in determining whether a

each sub–group, in this example the target group refers to their 'student membership' offer. Characteristics of this group would primarily be
highlighted as low income and the service being offered may not be a 'need' or even seen as an important 'want', so it may seem difficult to appeal to
this market. However according to Kotler (1980, p.78) a segment must be 'sufficiently large' and with more than 20,000 students living in the city centre
it would be essential to identify the student population as potential consumers; this has been implemented through allowing a somewhat exclusive and
cheaper deal for students only which allows for the service to appear more lucrative. A successful organisation however will not just appeal to one
segment of the market, "Marketers often use multiple segmentation bases in an effort to identify smaller, better–defined target groups" (Kotler &

Whole Foods Corporate Social Responsibility Essay
Going above and beyond may be defined by making a profit and still following the laws expected in management, which is exactly how Whole
Foods involves itself in the corporate social responsibility concept (Kreitner & Kinicki, 2013). Consequently, Whole Foods has made it to the top due
to great leadership, and valuable knowledge of ethical responsibility to stakeholders. As the leadership of this great company engages daily in business
meetings, just as all upper management does, it is evident that leading with excellence is first on the management list. The evidence of such strong
leadership shows how Whole Foods has a main goal and that is to do good for all and to seek to improve the world (Mackey, 2011). However, this
cannot be accomplished without this great knowledge which is valuable for the overall operations of the company as we all know revolves around
management. Being adequately knowledgeable about culture barriers and understanding how to deal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With investors, employees and all other stakeholders getting the most out of the experience due to this excellent service, loyalty becomes valuable.
Long–term loyaltys proves Whole Foods lives up to their motto being, "Whole Foods, Whole People, Whole Planet", and that is supported globally
(Cheretis & Mujtaba, 2014). Profits alone are not this company's priority, but rather valuable ethical behavior in which has brought them great success,
by integrating Corporate social responsibility (CSR), into Whole Foods and putting people first has made this company successful (Cheretis &
Mujtaba, 2014). Assessing the long run of the company overall, indicates Whole Foods has continually stayed on top of goals and their philosophy by
maintaining value–driven managers, which shows within the functions, and success. Through maximizing investors and other stakeholders Whole
Foods has made it to the top of the

Amway In China

  • 1. Amway in China Amway in China (A): A New Business ModelAssignment Questions1.What are Amway's core competencies?Amway has been a successfully growing business since 1959 due to its unique adaptation of direct marketing. The company has now expanded into over 80 countries and has been to some, an example of the American dream. This was what caused the tremendous growth and is what gave Amway its most valuable asset; its distributors. Amway's distributors are all Independent Business Owners (IBOs) because they have no legal ties to Amway other than they buy the products directly and sign a brief code of conduct agreement. Dell is also similar to Amway because by dealing directly with consumers it can find out exactly what the consumer needs without incurring consumer research costs that will be passed onto the consumer. Although Amway did not invent direct marketing it has been said that it reinvented it. Therefore Amway is unlike most companies that use direct marketing. Amway's direct marketing design resembles a pyramid but it not however a pyramid scheme or a ponzi scheme. A ponzi scheme is a illegal operation that promises high returns on short term investments. It continues with investors keeping their money in the investments thinking they are making large sums of money. News spreads to others who also invest and the amount collected continues to grow. If a few people decide to get out they are paid in order to disguise the scheme. Unfortunately for those who keep their money invested, they will never see any profits or perhaps their initial investment again. This is unlike a pyramid scheme because there are no levels of entry. A person who gets involved first does not collect more money than someone who gets in last. Pyramid schemes are characterized by costly start up costs, requirements to purchase products with virtually no value, promises of exponential ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Those studies portray the poor as motivated by similar desires as the rich. They want quality products and any company that can supply those products at the right price will gain their business. Some of the case studies show the strategies for reducing the effective price of products through packaging and developing lower cost sizes. Prahalad and others describe the untapped potential of the BOP, and list strategies that companies may use to tap that potential. • 4. Pyramid Door Case Analysis I. Problem statement Which strategy should Pyramid Door, Inc. implement, along with increased advertising for 100 dealers to achieve the sales goal of $12.5 million for the year of 2006? The four strategic options are increasing the number of non–exclusive dealers by 100, developing a formal executive franchise with 27 dealers so they would exclusively sell Pyramid Door products, reduce the number of non–exlusive dealers by 100, and the last plan was to only do a better job with current distribution policy and network. With everything being said, it is important to be available in as many stores as possible so consumers don't have to seek out Pyramid Door brand garage doors and they can find them just by walking around a store. In 2005 the residential garage door industry sales were expected to reach $2.2 billion with 90% of sales being steel garage doors. Demand for replacement garage doors was driven by the continued aging of the housing stock and the conversion of homeowners from wood doors to lighter weight, easier–to–maintain steel doors. Also, product innovations such as insulated steel doors, new springing systems, and residential garage doors with improved safety features have made steel doors increasingly popular. B. Industry analysis in Pyramid's trade area: Pyramid Door's projected market share for 2005 was 2.6%. Independent dealers typically sold 3 different brands and there was a clearly dominant brand which accounted for 60% of total garage door sales, the second brand which accounted for 30% of sales, and the weakest brand which accounted for 10% of sales. Carroll's Pyramid Carroll (1991) organized different corporate social responsibilities as a four–layered pyramid model and called it the pyramid of responsibilities. Corporate social responsibility involves the conduct of a business so that it is economically profitable, law abiding, ethical and socially supportive. Pyramid schemes are very harmful towards investors, and are hard to watch out for unless you know exactly what they are, why they fail, the effect of the failure, common victims, how to avoid them, and how to prevent them from spreading. More individuals are hurt than are helped when dealing with these scams. Individuals should be more informed about pyramid schemes, because they can be easily disguised. Participating in scams, will more than likely lead to a loss in money. "A pyramid scheme is a get–rich–quick business fraud that usually hurts investors in the end" ("Pyramid Schemes"). These schemes can also hurt the economy because of the loans taken out to pay off for the starter kits needed to recruit new members. If the scheme collapses, individuals could fall into poverty and lose their possessions. Relationships could also be broken if people start recruiting friends and/or spouses into the scheme. Pyramid schemes have caused divorces and suicides because of the broken trust between the bonds. Select victims are usually chosen for pyramid schemes. Individuals with certain types of personalities are more likely to get drawn into a scheme. One common target for scammers, says Swierczynski, is the "easygoing people–pleaser". "It's the kind of person who would rather buy an entire new sump pump system than insult a stranger" (Hobson). In this case, it pays not to be so friendly and to stand up for yourself by saying no (Hobson). Con artists are good at figuring out what pushes an individual off the edge, and they use that against him/her. Individuals, who are lonely, vulnerable, or desperate, make scamming more accessible. People in dire straits are also very vulnerable to scams (Hobson). Those who are vulnerable might have recently had a tragic death in the family or are in uncontrollable debt (Hobson). There is opportunity to invest in traditional sources like Gold or recent popular stocks such as Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat. The most obvious problem with detecting is no one in a part of the scheme is willing to do due diligence and internal reporting. The values of a company are an important indicator of the practices which benefits all participants as a whole(shareholders, employees, public). Companies that promote Corporate Social Responsibility believe that disclosure and transparency are just as important as profits. "Firms that stake a claim in CSR view their responsibilities as extending to a wide variety of disclosures and social reporting (e.g., the triple bottom line–social, environmental, and financial; Council on Economic Priorities[...]" (Laufer, 2010). The willingness of a company in disclosing financial information and reporting, helps shareholders as well as regulators determine whether or not there is illegal activity within the company. There can be a growing trust of financial institutions from shareholders, regulators and the public if more companies practice corporate social responsibility on a consistent basis. For example, if Bernie Madoff had to disclose all of his reports to investors and regulators, then there would have been a chance that he would have not succeeded in duping for as long as he did. John Wooden said in his book Wooden onleadership "Mastery of the skills you need in your job requires learning and it is why leaders and those who are high achievers are lifelong learners. While they both differ in many ways, they also share many characteristics. They are both a form of fraud and while most white collar workers commit fraud through Ponzi schemes and pyramid schemes, almost anyone can commit these types of fraud. A Ponzi scheme is when the criminal, often someone that is trusted, respected, and is already successful makes a promise to investors to invest their money into stock but does not actually invest the money at all. A pyramid scheme, however, is also fraud but different in terms of how investors actually become investors. Pyramid schemes require individuals to pay an upfront fee to join and promises that they will gain a return depending on how many other individuals they can get to join. This may cause some confusion to people on whether a business is legit or a pyramid scheme. One of the main flags that a business can be a pyramid scheme, is if one must pay to join. Another red flag, is if one is not making returns on the products they sell or if the products they sell are of no value. This fact, the lack of private property and big poverty made people easily fall prey of these deceptions. Maslow 's Theory Of Motivation Based On A Holistic Approach Maslow dealt with the psychological growth process, considered man as a biological organism, and began his study with the theory of motivation based on a holistic approach. The holistic approach paints a multidimensional whole picture of a person integrating the physical, mental, and spiritual through a growth perspective. According to Sengupta (2011), "Maslow defines growth as the continuous development of talents, capacities, creativity, wisdom and character, the various processes, which bring the person toward ultimate self–actualization" (p. 102). Maslow did not ignore the spiritual dimension, but mainly focused on the biological nature of man. He believed the entire person, not just part of him is motivated. "Maslow's motivational theory is based on the idea that human behavior is controlled through a number of developing fundamental needs that operates in a fixed sequence and needs are defined as a condition of deficit" (Sengupta, 2011, p. 102). Needs are not always caused by shortfalls, however, they may be founded on an individual's understanding of inner strength and high ethical standards in order to understand their maximum potential. Since the topic of this essay has to do with the BoP market, it is relevant to understand what the bottom of the pyramid represents. The bottom of the pyramid (BOP) is massive. It represents about 4 billion of people. Although it is the largest segment, it also represents the world's poorest citizens. Since the term "poor" can be very vague, the bottom of the pyramid represents the population who live with less than $2.50 a day and are excluded from the modernity of our globalised civilised societies. Countries such as Gambia, Ethiopia, Angola, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Brazil, China, Tanzania, and Bangladesh have a very high poverty rate. • 31. The First Level Of The Pyramid The first level of the Pyramid is in regards to the economic responsibilities. The original responsibility of companies was to provide goods and services, which consumers wanted, and make profit from that provision. This is the primary motivation for companies to be created. All the other responsibilities are built on the economic responsibility, as the company could not exist if it was not making profit. Legal responsibilities are at the second level of the Pyramid in terms of the historical development, but they are just as important as economic responsibilities. This means that the company has to conform with the laws and regulations provided by governmental institutions, which means that it has to pursue its economic plan as long as it operates within the framework of the law. Ethical responsibilities involve activities and practices, which are either expected or prohibited by key stakeholders, but the company is not obligated to follow these by law. The company finds itself in a continuous state of development as it tries to adjust to changing ethics or values in society. These are often proposed by NGOs who are fighting for the environment, workers' rights, consumer movements, etc. These changing norms and ethics often precede the law and can be difficult to deal with for companies as stakeholders often have higher standards for companies than required by the current law, therefore making this level in constant interaction with the legal responsibilities. Marketing Process Of Any Product Or Service The marketing process of any product or service begins with potential consumers; it is a customer–centric environment which primary function seeks to fulfil the needs and wants of each individual customer (Sheth, Sisodia, Sharma, 2000, p.55). It is these 'wants' that marketers have to identify and manipulate to turn them into a need and subsequently a sale, "people have narrow, basic needs but almost unlimited wants" (Kotler, Armstrong, Wong, & Saunders, 2008, p.9). The majority of the population may have unlimited wants however they also have limited resources so value for money is a crucial factor in the process of turning potential customers into consumers. Characteristics of this group would primarily be highlighted as low income and the service being offered may not be a 'need' or even seen as an important 'want', so it may seem difficult to appeal to this market. However according to Kotler (1980, p.78) a segment must be 'sufficiently large' and with more than 20,000 students living in the city centre it would be essential to identify the student population as potential consumers; this has been implemented through allowing a somewhat exclusive and cheaper deal for students only which allows for the service to appear more lucrative. A successful organisation however will not just appeal to one segment of the market, "Marketers often use multiple segmentation bases in an effort to identify smaller, better–defined target groups" (Kotler & Armstrong, 2011). Another form of segmentation which a company can appeal to relates to location; geographic segmentation occurs to attract customers in their immediate surroundings and is a technique shown by the the Pyramids Centre, "The rationale behind this approach is that people who ...
