Advantages Of Qualitative Method
According to Patton, (2001) qualitative method enables the researcher to have a good knowledge of
certain aspects of social life and as such try to make meaning out of it. Data from qualitative
methods comes in form of words which can be recorded and later transcribed, thus making it easy
for the researcher to re–frame, re–analyze and check the responses at a later time. Locke, et al.,
(2000) as cited in Steele, (2008) argued that one of the goals of qualitative method is to get the
understanding about peoples' idea of a particular phenomenon. One merit of the method is that it
helps the researcher to fathom the true experience of many people about a concept or a happening
under investigation which other methods may not decipher (Creswell, 1997). ... Show more content

Another advantage of qualitative methods is the use of the open–ended questions for collecting the
data. This form of questions allows the participants to answer the questions in a different way by
dictating individual responses which makes the method different from other methods of research.
The method also allows the researcher to gather essential information directly from the affected
participants which he/she may not have known about. More generally, the method can be said to
provide an avenue for respondents to talk freely without necessarily been restricted to certain
answers. Thus, qualitative methods allows the researcher to carefully engage with the respondent,
thus creating a good interactive platform through which the researcher is able to ask questions such
as what happened?, what is your experience?, how do you feel it can be improved? etc. The method
especially the face to face interview technique or observation could provide information necessary
for a further research where little or nothing is known about the topic in question (Patton,

The Scientific Method
The scientific method is an organized way that helps anyone answer a question or begin to solve a
problem. It is used in all types of Sciences such as Chemistry, Physics, Geology, and Psychology.
For psychologists it offers a standardized way to test a hypothesis, build on theories, and gain
knowledge about the mind. There are several steps to The Scientific Method and each step serves its
own purpose. By using the Scientific Method, you can understand better what psychologists go
through to arrive at conclusions about human behavior.
The first step in the Scientific Method is to formulate a specific question that can be tested. Once
you have identified the question, you can formulate a hypothesis. The hypothesis explains the

Morita Therapy Method And The Montessori Education Method
This paper endeavors to overlay the two concepts of living naturally from the Morita Therapy
Method and the Montessori Education Method. In doing so, the author will illustrate the ways in
which the two combine education and mental health and healthy living synergistically. To this end,
the paper will first define the basics of the living naturally according to the Morita Method. Next,
the Montessori method of education will be defined, including the background information of each
method. Following this the ways in which the two work together will be discussed. A critical
assessment of the Montessori Method from the stance of the Morita method will then follow, taking
not to the ways in which the Montessori methods could better incorporate ... Show more content on

The census data over many decades showed that teachers' wages around the U.S. have been
declining about 20% from 1960 to 2000 and still continuously diminishing compared to other
comparable workers' wages in other fields which in turn leading to the feeling of overburdened that
may result in, loss of teacher quality, and student achievement (Mishel, 2012). Students are also
overburdened. In a study about teacher and teaching quality influence students ' achievement the
researchers investigated the impact of specific aspects of teacher quality (experience, certification,
professional development,.. etc.) and teaching quality (time spent on teaching, basic practical...etc.)
influence students' achievement in math (Desimone & Long, 2010). Evidence indicated that low
achiever students tend to be taught by teachers who are scarcely prepared and spend less time
teaching. Therefore, the researchers found that the utilization of advanced procedural teaching and
time spent on class teaching were correlated to achievement development for normal disadvantaged
student populations such as students of color and low–SES students (Desimone & Long, 2010). In
addition to this, the system is profoundly underfunded. In Kansas alone, there some broadly known
trouble with the mass education system. In a 2015 article from the Kansas City gives a good brief
vignette about what teachers and students have to work

These investments have had great impact on the cost structure and consequently, on the bottom line
of these companies. Because of the fact that many of the companies have reached the maximum
potential of the Six Sigma approach, what would be the next step for productivity improvement?
Studies have shown that the design stage directly influences more than 70% of a product's life cycle
cost. Companies with high product development effectiveness have earnings three times the average
earnings, and have revenue growth two times the average revenue growth. These observations are
persuading more and more companies to adopt improved product development processes under
Taguchi Method. This method's approach is focused on increasing engineering productivity so that
new products can be developed rapidly and at low cost, and value based management. Taguchi
Method Strategy Variation reduction is recognized all around the world as a key to productivity
improvement. There are many approaches to reducing the variability, each one having its place in
the product development cycle. By focusing on variation reduction at the design stage, you can
prevent failures in the following stages of a product's life cycle. The Six Sigma approach has made
fantastic improvements in cost reduction by finding problems that occur in manufacturing
operations and fixing the immediate causes. The Robust

1) Chapter title: Introduction, Acquiring Knowledge, and the Scientific Method
Short summary of the chapter:
In short, chapter 1 was about learning how research methodology can be useful in everyday life.
Through the scientific method, the methods of tenacity, intuition, authority, rationalism, and
empiricism we can develop a better understanding of information obtained. The scientific method,
however, is the most acceptable way to answer questions because it allows us to find the most
accurate answer. Through the scientific method our study is shown to be empirical, public and
objective. When researching qualitative studies, you can expect narrative reports while quantitative
studies will show numerical data. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The method of tenacity was a new method of acquiring knowledge that I learned, which stems from
information that is accepted as true because it has always been believed to be or because superstition
supports it. I also became educated on the five steps of the scientific method that consist of
observing behavior, forming a hypothesis, making a predictable prediction, making systematic,
planned observations, as well as supporting, refuting or refining the original hypothesis.

Research Methods
Introduction of research and research methods
What is research method? As a matter of fact, according to Saundra et al. (2003), the term method in
the entire research process or project can be considered as tool or technique which help researcher
obtain, collect and analyze data or different types of information. To be more specific, Saundra et al.
(2003) point out that in order to fulfill different research projects and objectives, couples of methods
have to be properly utilized, in this case, these approaches usually include questionnaire,
observation and interviews. What is the nature of research? Saundra et al. (2003) argued that the
genuine research should be defined as a project that the outcomes or objectives can be obtained and

The quantitative data is usually collected from number or numerical data such as ration or frequency
rate, on the contrary, the qualitative data is acquired from non–standardized recording. The
quantitative data can be visualized through different graphics such as table, diagram. The qualitative
data, however can be demonstrated through statement and conceptualization.
Introduction and review of research project and research process
The research project is about the use the catering facility in catering outlets in city campus of SHU.
In order to achieve the research task and objectives, the researcher was mainly using three research
methods–observation, interview and questionnaire in terms of collecting relevant data and statistics.
Observation
The researcher chose the use of catering facility as the observation topic and set the observation
place at one of catering outlet which is in the first floor of Furnival Building and a detailed record of
the entire observation was made, The time span of this observation is about 15 minute and the time
when this observation was undertaken is in afternoon. The final data that derived from observation
is quantitative–based data and more concerned with the frequency of each action and behavior.
According to Saunders et al. (2003), there are two types of observation and each of them is
responsible for collecting different types of

The Montessori Method
In order to discuss the suitability of the Montessori Method to the revised primary school
curriculum, one must gain some understanding of both. This essay will briefly explore the revised
primary curriculum, the Montessori Method and finally discuss the suitability of the Montessori
Method in teaching the new curriculum.
The revised Primary School Curriculum (1999) developed as a result of input from the Review
Body on the Primary Curriculum (1990), the National Convention on Education (1994) and the
White Paper on Education (1994). It considers the Philosophical ethos of Curriculum Na Bunscoile
and is guided by the Education Act (1998). It is in fact an amalgamation of "current educational
thinking" and the most innovative and effective ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Working in a Montessori classroom that promotes choice, demands one to move constantly,
particularly when choosing what or who to work with (p21).
Montessori curriculum can be broken down into the following headings. Each has a selection of
graded exercises which are presented to the child in sequence when they are ready:
Practical life exercises,
Sensorial
Number work
Language
In John Holt's very interesting book "How Children Fail" (1966 ) he poses the concept that although
children love learning they don't like being thought. He argues children thought in traditional ways
become "unintelligent" (p56). They strive for teacher approval by focusing importance on getting
the right answer; mechanisms such as reflecting and having an enquiring mind are supressed. Holts
(1966) suggests children had to "teach him before he could begin to teach them" (p.22), he
emphasises the importance of teachers observing, listening, and encouraging creative ways of being.
This philosophy sits very comfortably with the Montessori Method of teaching. As mentioned
earlier directors must be a "guide" observing children in their work. The new Primary School
Curriculum calls for this approach in that it promotes the development of children's capacity for
"creative expression and response"

Mixed Methods
Carmen, Why did the researchers use a mixed methods design? One way a mixed method is used is
when the quantitative approach or qualitative approach, by itself, is inadequate to develop multiple
perspectives and a complete understanding about a research problem (). It this study, the researcher
want to investigate whether parental perception of the type of involvement in the EoL DMP for their
child in the NICU is related to their long–term grief outcome. To me, both parental perception and
long–term grief outcome contain several aspects and require further exploring. In order to obtain
how the parents feel about their involvement in EoL DMP, qualitative study is suitable because it
focuses on contexts and meaning of human lives and experiences.

Quantitative And Quantitative Methods Of Methods
This chapter illustrates the approaches in terms of techniques the study uses in collecting data,
followed with a detailed analysis and the way in which they will be interpreted. The chapter starts
with a brief discussion of how the general research designs for the whole study and its basic layout.
After that, a discussion of previous studies and models that were applied would be present and an
explanation of why this specific qualitative and quantitative study method is employed will be
following, as well as their suitability. Finally, the sources of data and their scope, reliability and their
limitations concerning this study will also be discussed in later this chapter.

A quantitative study on the topic will be on the later part of the paper, with the aim of figuring out
the numerical relationship and correlation between the key variables, and to see if there is an
empirically significant relationship between them. To investigate the hypothesis empirically, this
paper uses an up–to–date database on key variables including GDP per capita, aid effectiveness,
governance indicators, and net official development assistance (ODA) per capita, which were
developed by the World Bank and OECD.
3.2 Qualitative Research
Qualitative method will be used in this paper, mainly when introducing the research topic,
discussing about the previous studies in the Literature Review, explaining the quantitative research
results and providing conclusion with the respect of the specific Sub–Saharan African countries
cases. And this makes it 'secondary qualitative data'.
3.3 Quantitative Research
To answer the research questions mentioned earlier, economic growth would be the dependent
variable, as well as the share of aid in GDP. A number of key explanatory variables will be taken
into consideration in the following part.
In Victor Levy's (1987) study, which concentrates on aid and economic growth in Sub–Saharan
Africa, data of GDP growth

The data from this experiment supports this. Out of all the girls, only one 8 year old failed to wait
for the second marshmallow, lasting only 46 seconds. Out of the boys, 4 of them did not wait (ages
5, 3, 7, and 6). The boys who didn't wait had times of 0:24, 2:46, 6:08, and 0:20. Most of the
children looked around the room or turned away from the marshmallow, but eventually looked back
at it. One child (age 3) sang songs to distract her. Many of the children tried to start up
conversations and a 7 year old boy started sliding the paper plate across the desk. However, most of
the girls just sat at the desk looking around the room, while the boys fidgeted in the chair or fiddled
with their hands. One 3 year old sucked on his fingers, but only for 2 minutes and 46 seconds before
he ate the marshmallow (age 3). One interesting result was that one boy (age 6) only waited for 20
seconds, but his brother (age 4) waited the entire time, which contradicts that self–control improves

The Scientific Method
Learning Goal: To understand how the scientific method can be used to search for explanations of
nature. The scientific method is a procedure used to search for explanations of nature. The scientific
method consists of making observations, formulating hypotheses, designing and carrying out
experiments, and repeating this cycle. Observations can be either quantitative or qualitative.
Quantitative observations are measurements consisting of both numbers and units, such as the
observation that ice melts at . In contrast, qualitative observations are observations that do not rely
on numbers or units, such as the observation that water is clear. A hypothesis is a tentative
explanation of the observations. The hypothesis is not necessarily ... Show more content on

4. Compounds are formed when atoms of more than one element combine; a given compound
always has the same relative number and kind of atoms. Scientists later discovered isotopes, which
showed that the second postulate was not entirely true. Consider two different compounds of carbon
and oxygen: carbon dioxide, , and carbon monoxide, . The number of oxygen atoms per carbon
atom in is double the number of oxygen atoms per carbon atom in . So we can predict that the mass
of oxygen per gram of carbon in is double the mass of oxygen per gram of carbon in . And, in fact,
if other carbon–oxygen compounds existed, we could predict small, whole–number ratios for the
masses of oxygen per gram of carbon in all of them. This is exactly what John Dalton predicted for
compounds using his atomic theory of matter. It came to be known as the law of multiple

the program do not have research training (for example an honours or research masters

quantitative research design and methods training on entry to the program. The research training is
currently delivered as two separate coursework subjects. 3
Doctoral theses produced from the program are examined by academics from all over the globe
and anecdotal evidence collected from the examination reports was suggesting that many of the
research projects in the program were adopting a mixed method approach, utilising both quantitative
and qualitative aspects in the research design. In some studies, the two approaches were utilised
with similar weighting while in other studies; one approach was dominant, with the other
supporting.
As a reaction to the anecdotal evidence, structured and formal mixed methods research training was
included in the Qualitative Research Unit for the program from 2008 in response to the noted
increasing trend for candidates to include mixed method designs in their projects. The teaching of
mixed methods as a formal component in the research training subjects has been welcomed by both
the candidates and their supervisors. In addition,

Advantage Of Direct Method
I realized that students must be taught things that they cannot learn on their own at home and that
are the hardest for them, they must learn to speak, and to achieve this goal I think the Direct Method
is the best for several reasons. The Direct Method gets a great response among the beginners who
start to speak a foreign language from the very beginning. Intermediate and advanced students like
the method as well; they appreciate primarily the fact that the DM method helps them transform
"theory into practice". To them, the pace of the lesson is very important since it enables them to
repeat things as well as learn a lot of new words and phrases.

There are various situations that can not be dramatized or acted out. Especially with intermediate
and advanced language material, dramatization in various cases becomes impossible, and wastes a
lot of time because some teachers are excessively rigorous in applying the Direct Method and
eliminate the native language completely. This can result in non–learning or very little learning. The
student's dissatisfaction in the long run causes and invalidates the classroom situation. In spite of
these objections, the Direct Method has still been used and defended rigorously by various teachers
in different parts of the world. It is true that the Direct Method is superior to the grammar translation
method in many ways. It has brought in to language teaching a clear purpose, and more important, a
technique both of which have been tremendous importance and benefit. We are not now at that point
to reject the Direct Method as a hole, and it is not wise to ignore the advantages which it has
introduced. It is superior to several of the older methods because it has emphasized the importance
of language contact, and it is not only by the Direct Methodists that the idea of learning a foreign
language for communication has been put forward." (king

Science in the early childhood classroom is mostly over looked. In the article Using the Scientific
Method to Guide Learning: An Integrated Approach to Early Childhood Curriculum, by Gerde,
Schachter, and Wasik, they focus on weaving the steps of the scientific method into all aspects of
learning from English Language Arts to Math. Gerde, Schachter, and Wasik contend that,
incorporating the scientific method into the already existing framework of the early childhood
classroom, it will lead to a better understanding of science concepts later on. The article also gives
specific examples of how to combine a child's natural curiosity about a topic such as worms, into
several Literacy and Math lessons. These lessons naturally allow for the incorporation of the
scientific method which includes the following steps:
1. Observation
2. Asking questions
3. Generating hypotheses and predictions
4. Experimentation or testing of a hypothesis
5. Summarizing or analyzing data to draw a conclusion
6. Communicating discovery and process to others :verbally or in writing

The Comparative Method: Moving Beyond Qualitative and Quantitative Strategies by Charles C.
Ragin describes several aspects of the comparative research process. He describes in detail the
strategies a comparative researcher can employ and the differences and similarities of these
strategies. He notes that the comparative approach is primarily of a qualitative nature and is by its
very nature different from quantitative scientific methodology based upon statistical inference.
During the course of this report, Ragin's "The Comparative Method" will be described by its major
points and descriptions of comparative research. Several weaknesses will be identified and
described. And finally, this report will seek to discuss how these weaknesses can be overcome or
mitigated.
Description of "The Comparative Method".
This book describes several components of comparative research and some factors which influences
this type of research. The author first explains the Distinctiveness of Comparative social Science.
He notes that the comparative method is typically used to refer to the comparison of large macro–
social units. He states that he goals of comparative and non–comparative work are identical; to
explain social phenomena by establishing controls over the conditions and causes of variation. Even
though the underlying goals of both types of research may be the same, there is a wide gulf between
qualitative and quantitative work. Regan describes this gulf as being: 1) wider in

All information that I have gained for my secondary data is all reliable, because it has come from
recommended sites, books and journals that have been approved from the Government or from
hospitals and doctors themselves. There are many research methods used to gain information, but it
is important to use the right one to ensure that you get the best results possible. One method that is

This would leave my results as unreliable because I personal effected them. Another method of
researching is an unstructured interview, which is where an interview is conducted on the topic area
and it has no set questions. The advantages are the topic is explored in depth, you are able to explore
people opinions and it is good for handling sensitive topics. The disadvantages are it can be difficult
to compare answers, it is easy to get off the subject area and that the interviewee may lie. I did not
choose to do this method because it is very difficult to analyse answers, it can be very time
consuming and it is difficult to record the answers.
My chosen method of research is a questionnaire, to test my hypothesis. I chose a questionnaire
because it can reach a large amount of people and it is reliable and easy to replicate. Another reason
is it can be easily changed into statistical data by using graphs and tables. An advantage is that the
questionnaire can be anonymous, which is good, because my topic can be a sensitive topic for some
people. Being able to stay anonymous may encourage more people to participate, because it means
that their views and opinions can not be referenced back to them and they may feel more inclined to
answer truthfully. Another benefit is that my questionnaire can be taken away to do in the
participants own leisure time. This is a benefit because my targeted groups, mothers, are very busy

The Scientific Method is simple set of rules meant to help people find an answer to any question
through experimentation and research. It is globally known for its effectiveness in answering
difficult problems. While some steps may seem complicated, they can be more simple then was
thought beforehand. While some people think only scientists use it, it's actually used by everyone all
the time, which is why it's important to learn the process.
While some steps are more complicated than others, there are only six to memorize. The first to find
a question that people don't know the answer to, and go from there. Step two is to form a hypothesis
as to what the answer will be. Afterwards, it is a smart decision to research the question being
answered to help understand it more. Experimentation is the next step in the process, and is more
hands on than the others. The second to last step is to collect data and information from the
experiment that was just completed. Lastly, the person using the scientific method will used the data
to determine the answer of the dilemma. However, some areas state differences in the steps, as this

Recapture Method
This experiment is being conducted to use the capture, mark, and recapture method to determine an
estimate population size of an individual in an area. We are testing whether or not this method can
be used to accurately estimate the population size. Our approach is to capture as many individuals as
we possibly can in a set time, mark and release the individuals, and then attempt to recapture said
marked individuals. The overall class estimates received from this experiment were not that far off
the actual population size of the individuals. The class data in the end yielded an approximate 12%
difference. Introduction: There are a variety of methods that can be used when trying to estimate
population size. A common method used by wildlife biologists is the capture, mark, and recapture
method. This method is particularly useful when trying to estimate the population size of a mobile
or far–ranging species. Some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There were two groups who received a difference of over 800 for their estimated population size
which affected the class data. On average the groups population estimates varied by roughly 550
individuals. The team that came closest to the actual population was Team 12 who estimated the
population to be 2508, while the actual population was 2400. The class data overall yielded an
approximate 12% difference. Discussion: Advantages that come with the capture, mark, and
recapture method is that you will be dealing with the same species of animal during the capture
periods and it will give you an idea of the population size. Unfortunately, there are some factors that
make this method unreliable which include, whether or not the population is closed or open, and life
and death. An open population makes data collected less accurately measured due to immigration

A null hypothesis is a statement that there is no actual relationship between variables (Meenakshi,
2012). For example, my null hypothesis would state that there is no relationship between how much
free time a child has and how much legal trouble they get into. There are several reasons why it is
important to adhere to ethical norms in research. First, norms promote the aims of research, such as
knowledge, truth, and avoidance of error. For example, prohibitions against fabricating, falsifying,
or misrepresenting research data promote the truth and avoid error. Second, since research often
involves a great deal of cooperation and coordination among many different people in different
disciplines and institutions, ethical standards promote the values that are essential to collaborative
work, such as trust, accountability, mutual respect, and fairness. For example, many ethical norms in
research, such as guidelines for authorship, copyright and patenting policies, data sharing policies,
and confidentiality rules in peer review, are designed to protect intellectual property interests while
encouraging collaboration. Most researchers want to receive credit for their contributions and do not
want to have their ideas stolen or disclosed prematurely. Third, many of the ethical norms help to
ensure that researchers can be held

The Scientific Method
The Scientific Method is represented by a reasonable order of steps used to come across a
conclusion obtained by an experiment or attentive observations. There are five orderly steps which
are the following; asking a question or stating the problem, creating a hypothesis, conduct an
experiment, evaluate the results, and create a conclusion. A method used by scientists to find an
answer a question or the solution to a problem. Now, let's take a closer look of what each of these
five steps consist of. Asking a question or stating the problem is very important to clearly avoid any
misunderstand later in the scientific method process. It is the statement as to why you will be

Utilizing The Scientific Method
SCI110, Introduction to Science
May 1, 2015
The Scientific method is a process that scientists use to solve a problem. It generally involves four
distinct steps that constitute the "Scientific Method". This paper describes the steps of the scientific
method, and its application in a real–world scenario we experienced.
Step 1: Formulating a Problem
Formulating a problem can range from simple to difficult solutions to a problem. In order to solve a
problem, you must first know what the problem is. To begin with we can determine what the
problem is not, just based on facts known by yourself, coworkers, friends or family. By asking a
question, eliminating ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the water level in the sump pit rises, this switch turns on the pump. This pumps the water out
of the pit and into a pipe which ejects the drainage water out of the house and (hopefully) far away
from the house."
With the sump pump installed, we waited for severe rainstorms to hit before observing the results.
After one light storm, there was no flooding. But after a second, more severe storm, the floor
continued to take on water, which led us to the Conclusion that either the flooding was not due to
the rising water table, or the sump pump was ineffective at stopping the rising water table.
At that point we decided to observe the flow of water outside during the next big storm. When it
finally hit, we went outside and observed a significant amount of water flowing straight down the
wall just outside the walkway, from the top of the walkway under the deck. Once again, the
walkway floor took on water. We revised our Hypothesis to state that the basement walkway was
flooding due to water flowing directly down the exterior wall, underground, where it entered gaps in
the wall to the walkway.
Our solution to test the Hypothesis was to install a gutter under the deck, under the flashing which
separated the walkway roof to the walkway exterior wall. This would catch rain water and funnel it
away from the wall, therefore preventing water from flowing directly down the wall where it could
enter the walkway

What is the difference between direct and indirect observational methods of research? Direct
observation is when researchers observe the behavior while it is occurring. Indirect (unobtrusive)
observation is when researchers examine physical traces and archival records. (Zechmeister,
Zechmeister, & Shaughnessy 2001) Direct observation of behavior can be seen in simply
psychology: question and answer, as well as simple observation of a person's daily activities. The
researcher can choose to change the atmosphere, or change the study to intervene and observe the
changes, while indirect observations main goal is to be unseen and non–influential on the behavior

He has not looked into if this study has been performed before, or any other studies like it. And, as I
said before, he doesn't have any background information on the subjects themselves, which isn't
exactly necessary, but could be helpful in his conclusion. He comes up with a quick and inadequate
hypothesis and then jumps into testing this with his experiment.
His experiment is short lived and, though it gives him positive results, these are the results he was
looking for. There in lies another bias problem. He went into the experiment, observing others
behavior as well as his own, wanting a certain outcome. Rather than creating a useful test study he
created a game for himself. He most likely felt that he NEEDED to have the conversation come to a
friendly outcome to prove his point, rather than take in information to decide if he even had a valid
point to begin with. This is why he needs a separate observer, or a separate confederate, not himself,
to distinguish a more open view of his original question.
He then takes his biased results and configures a positive conclusion based on his findings. Though
he has convinced himself, these findings would not hold up in the scientific world. There is too
much vagueness, bias, and also self–gratification in his conclusion to give this a scientific stamp of
approval.

The sociologist is interested in understanding the self, other, and social environment, questioning
and searching for an interpretation of the common, everyday, and taken for granted. In order to do
this, the sociologist needs to apply some form of research and method, however the most successful
direction for doing so has been long disputed. Although sociological method has been subject to
many different styles and approaches, being constantly updated with new ideas and concepts, this
essay will argue that in order to best reflect upon and develop an understanding of today's world, the
researcher needs to use and apply both qualitative and quantitative methods. To make this argument
clear, this essay will first go into the understanding of sociological methods through epistemological
and ontological views. Then this essay will explore the debate of quantitative or qualitative
methods, and then argue for a mixed methods approach. Finally, this essay will utilise an existing
research paper and evaluate one of the many ways to inter–relating quantitative and qualitative
method, being the concurrent triangulation design. In conclusion, this essay will prove that through
the utilisation of both quantitative and qualitative method, the sociologist has the ability to open "a
free space for innovation and creativity" (Martin, Gutman & Hutton, 1988, p.163), in which both
methods are able to strengthen each other and further support the interpretation of the phenomena at
hand.

Knowledge and Scientific Methods As we talk about scientific thinking in class, we come upon the
term of critical thinking to describe scientific thinking. When evaluating any sort of scientific
claims, we must make sure that we are able to justify them and ignore any evidence that can blind
from the truth. When we think scientifically, we must look at all the possibilities which are crucial to
help us think critically. There are some explanations that need more evidence than what we really
see because sometimes we do not see all the truth behind the reasoning, which include the six
principles. Those six principles are ruling out rival hypothesis, correlation vs. causation,
falsifiability, replicability, extraordinary claims and last ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We found that many scientist have been trying to research stem cells for a while now. Because it is a
very controversial topic, many seems to not agree with this idea as stated in (Rehman, 2014). It
takes so much research to be able to find out the results that stem cells can actually have. In the stem
cell research they claim that they can have specialized cells (embryotic cells), to help produce more
cells that able to cure other diseases. Since this research take a lot of time and embryotic cells to do
it makes the research harder to do. In this claim I think that the principle of replicability is necessary
in order to make sure that this claim can actually help in bone–narrow and other things. If we are not
sure that this cannot help certain diseases as it claims then why should be using the embryotic cells
on research that does not help. For these reason, having this research replicable by many people is
an important factor to find the effectiveness of this procedure. Since bone–narrow is common we
must replicate this process to make sure that this claim can be used in the future as this article states.
Just like this article stated above said, we must use our six principles of scientific thinking when
looking at claims to make sure that our claims are true or not, which in this case included

Methods And Methods Of Qualitative Research
Method Approach
Qualitative research is normally recognizable via the use of methods that include, in–depth
interviews and group moderation techniques; a particular objective to answer is "why?" and "how?"
(Bailey, 2014). One of the great benefits of the qualitative research method is that it offers a wide
range of approaches that can be used to capture data. In order to ensure credibility, two approaches
will be used to conduct this research. The ethnographic approach will be used to understand the
organization as a whole and the norms and behaviors, both verbal and non–verbal, which make up
the organization's identity. Individual and group observation of each participant will be conducted
over a period of three to six months in order to gain full understanding. Data will also be gathered
through informal interviews such as general conversation and storytelling with the participants.
Informal interviews can be beneficial as they allow the researcher to review key data elements
which often may be missed during general observation (Merrigan & Huston, 2009).
The second approach will be to apply a form of action research, which is the notion of inquiring
into, or investigating something in a systematic manner (Merriam & Tisdell, 2015). Often used in
organizational settings, action research is designed to evaluate practices in order to bring social
change. This approach will be implemented through a one on one structured interview where the
researcher will reference a

Research methods are divided in two big blocks: quantitative and qualitative. Quantitative methods
are those where results are explained in numbers, whereas qualitative methods define outcomes by
what respondents answer. It is more subjective and more open, as results are not described by

Fifth type of research method is observation. It can be an observation of a person or of some activity
or some model. This method can include when over seeing what people do, what is their behaviour,
their relationship with others. Observation can also be on some cases or models, or even comparing
two or more activities and making conclusions. This is more called analysis and is very detailed in
its structure; therefore it is one of the qualitative methods.
In conclusion, in this essay were described most popular research method types, which can be used
almost by every chosen topic to investigate. Before choosing a topic it is important to consider what
kind of data researcher wants to collect– quantitative or qualitative, because method aims differ.
Surveys and questionnaires are used to collect quantitative and objective data, whereas interviews,
experiments and observations are used to gather qualitative and subjective data.

In science, one system of deduction has brought about many significant breakthroughs, more than
any other used. This system is called the Scientific Method, and without it, mankind would not be as
advanced as it is today. The first, and probably the most important part in the Scientific Method is
observing and stating a problem. For example, one might wonder why the sky is blue during the
day, and black during the night. Since our curiosity might get the better of us, we would wonder
why the sky changes color, and try to find out. Next, we would form a hypothesis, or in layman's
terms and educated guess, as to why the sky changes color. For example, we might observe that the
sky changes color when the earth makes its daily rotation. Then,

. Choice of Research Method: Quantitative, Qualitative or Mixed?
Research methods are procedures for research that informs not only the techniques chosen for the
data collection, but also informs the selection of data analysis techniques in order to deal with
research questions or hypotheses. It can be distinguished as three types: quantitative, qualitative, and
mixed methods. Qualitative research is a method of investigation for exploring and in–depth
understanding the behaviour and process within individuals or groups and the cause of those of
behaviour and process. Qualitative data is typically collected directly from the people in which data
analysis is built based on an impression from particulars to general themes. Hence, researcher make
interpretations of the meaning of the data with some influences from personal background,
subjectivity and experiences. In contrast, a quantitative research method is based on previously
defined epistemological stance based on empiricism knowledge creation. Thus, it investigates to test
the hypothesis and theories by examining the relationship among variables and measurement the
analytical outcomes of variables. In between qualitative and quantitative methods, mixed methods
research combines qualitative and quantitative methods, techniques or data (Rao and Woolcock,
2004; Creswell, 2009).The research methods should be designed based on research questions and

observe children scientifically, learning which teaching methods works best for young child. In
1907, Maria opened the first Montessori school, where she implemented her observations into
practical teaching methods. Montessori's work is revolutionary in the field of education of young
children. Maria's book, lays out her study of methods in an educational program for children ages 3

perfection within the classroom, to promote the liberation of the student, allowing the child's right to

Report on the unique characteristic of qualitative and quantitative research strategy
Quantitative and qualitative researches are based on different paradigms. Qualitative research
strategy focuses mainly on words, human behaviour in the cultural context, attitudes and life
experiences rather than numerical data (IPA Research Strategy. 2010). It focuses on collecting
information to confirm how the variables interrelate. It is subjective and always relies on the
interpretation of the situation of the individual undertaking the study.
As for the quantitative it put emphasis on specific standard or numerical data and applies different
kind of statistical analysis. The researcher always stays independent, apart and uses random
sampling to prevent personal prejudices to misrepresent the results which can easily be generalized
(IPA Research Method, 2010).
Both strategies have their own characteristics.

consequence to the hypothetical relationships. Although this limitation is overcome by applying the
qualitative research techniques in explaining the quantitative accounts that are accumulated from
quantitative methods. This mode of using the two types of research techniques is referred as the

Using Mixed Methods For A Mixed Method Design
Mixed methods are a combination of both qualitative and quantitative data. According to Sherperis,
most researchers define themselves as either a qualitative or a quantitative researcher (Sherperis, C.
J., Young, J. S., & Daniels, M. H. (2010). Although it seems that combining the two would be a
win–win situation for the researcher as both sides are considered, it is important that there is
trustworthiness and that coding is done appropriately. Having said this, it is important that whatever
research method is used, the method must be valid Laureate Education (Producer). (n.d.). Using a
mixed methods design allows for research to be broader, vast, and have more depth (Sherperis et al.,
2010). When conducting research, it has also been mentioned that Sherperis that although researches
define themselves as one or the other (qualitative or quantitative) it is not necessary to do so. When
performing a mixed–methods design, one must think about how they wish to go about this research.
It is imperative to be informed so that there are no issues with validity of the research. Cresswell
(1999) has suggested the following prior to partaking in research using mixed methods "1)
Determine the order in which you will implement the qualitative and quantitative data of your study,
2) Determine the weight that will be given to the quantitative and qualitative data, 3) determine how
the two types of data will be mixed/combined, and 4) determine the theory that will guide your
design"

helping them understanding what is going on as well as seeking help. This is also a primary reason
for service users preferring intensive community based home treatment as apposed to admission into

Scientific Method
Science is an objective method used explain the natural phenomena of the universe. The practice of
a scientific method provides a detailed outline that contributes to expressing how to determine if a
theory is scientific. A continual cycle that emphasizes the techniques of observations, questions,
hypothesis, prediction, experiment, and conclusion. The complications that arise when applying the
scientific method to all theories is that science is subject to change; therefore, it is hard to modify
extensive ideas to a few simplified steps. A scientific explanation depends on existing experimental
theories to validate or disprove present and future logical arguments. This is because previous
observations support abstract methods that may not be testable and the continual change is
dependent on specific predictions and discoveries.
Many aspects of scientific knowledge are hypothetical ideas, however, they contribute the same
level of importance compared to a logical fact. A scientific explanation is shaped from existing

Advantages Of Qualitative Method

  • 1. Advantages Of Qualitative Method According to Patton, (2001) qualitative method enables the researcher to have a good knowledge of certain aspects of social life and as such try to make meaning out of it. Data from qualitative methods comes in form of words which can be recorded and later transcribed, thus making it easy for the researcher to re–frame, re–analyze and check the responses at a later time. Locke, et al., (2000) as cited in Steele, (2008) argued that one of the goals of qualitative method is to get the understanding about peoples' idea of a particular phenomenon. One merit of the method is that it helps the researcher to fathom the true experience of many people about a concept or a happening under investigation which other methods may not decipher (Creswell, 1997). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another advantage of qualitative methods is the use of the open–ended questions for collecting the data. This form of questions allows the participants to answer the questions in a different way by dictating individual responses which makes the method different from other methods of research. The method also allows the researcher to gather essential information directly from the affected participants which he/she may not have known about. More generally, the method can be said to provide an avenue for respondents to talk freely without necessarily been restricted to certain answers. Thus, qualitative methods allows the researcher to carefully engage with the respondent, thus creating a good interactive platform through which the researcher is able to ask questions such as what happened?, what is your experience?, how do you feel it can be improved? etc. The method especially the face to face interview technique or observation could provide information necessary for a further research where little or nothing is known about the topic in question (Patton, ... • 2. The Scientific Method The scientific method is an organized way that helps anyone answer a question or begin to solve a problem. It is used in all types of Sciences such as Chemistry, Physics, Geology, and Psychology. For psychologists it offers a standardized way to test a hypothesis, build on theories, and gain knowledge about the mind. There are several steps to The Scientific Method and each step serves its own purpose. By using the Scientific Method, you can understand better what psychologists go through to arrive at conclusions about human behavior. The first step in the Scientific Method is to formulate a specific question that can be tested. Once you have identified the question, you can formulate a hypothesis. The hypothesis explains the association between ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Morita Therapy Method And The Montessori Education Method This paper endeavors to overlay the two concepts of living naturally from the Morita Therapy Method and the Montessori Education Method. In doing so, the author will illustrate the ways in which the two combine education and mental health and healthy living synergistically. To this end, the paper will first define the basics of the living naturally according to the Morita Method. Next, the Montessori method of education will be defined, including the background information of each method. Following this the ways in which the two work together will be discussed. A critical assessment of the Montessori Method from the stance of the Morita method will then follow, taking not to the ways in which the Montessori methods could better incorporate ... The census data over many decades showed that teachers' wages around the U.S. have been declining about 20% from 1960 to 2000 and still continuously diminishing compared to other comparable workers' wages in other fields which in turn leading to the feeling of overburdened that may result in, loss of teacher quality, and student achievement (Mishel, 2012). Students are also overburdened. In a study about teacher and teaching quality influence students ' achievement the researchers investigated the impact of specific aspects of teacher quality (experience, certification, professional development,.. etc.) and teaching quality (time spent on teaching, basic practical...etc.) influence students' achievement in math (Desimone & Long, 2010). Evidence indicated that low achiever students tend to be taught by teachers who are scarcely prepared and spend less time teaching. Therefore, the researchers found that the utilization of advanced procedural teaching and time spent on class teaching were correlated to achievement development for normal disadvantaged student populations such as students of color and low–SES students (Desimone & Long, 2010). In addition to this, the system is profoundly underfunded. In Kansas alone, there some broadly known trouble with the mass education system. Because of the fact that many of the companies have reached the maximum potential of the Six Sigma approach, what would be the next step for productivity improvement? Studies have shown that the design stage directly influences more than 70% of a product's life cycle cost. Companies with high product development effectiveness have earnings three times the average earnings, and have revenue growth two times the average revenue growth. These observations are persuading more and more companies to adopt improved product development processes under Taguchi Method. This method's approach is focused on increasing engineering productivity so that new products can be developed rapidly and at low cost, and value based management. Taguchi Method Strategy Variation reduction is recognized all around the world as a key to productivity improvement. There are many approaches to reducing the variability, each one having its place in the product development cycle. By focusing on variation reduction at the design stage, you can prevent failures in the following stages of a product's life cycle. The Six Sigma approach has made fantastic improvements in cost reduction by finding problems that occur in manufacturing operations and fixing the immediate causes. The Robust ... This assignment should be single spaced. 1) Chapter title: Introduction, Acquiring Knowledge, and the Scientific Method Short summary of the chapter: In short, chapter 1 was about learning how research methodology can be useful in everyday life. Through the scientific method, the methods of tenacity, intuition, authority, rationalism, and empiricism we can develop a better understanding of information obtained. The scientific method, however, is the most acceptable way to answer questions because it allows us to find the most accurate answer. Through the scientific method our study is shown to be empirical, public and objective. When researching qualitative studies, you can expect narrative reports while quantitative studies will show numerical data. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (2003), the term method in the entire research process or project can be considered as tool or technique which help researcher obtain, collect and analyze data or different types of information. To be more specific, Saundra et al. (2003) point out that in order to fulfill different research projects and objectives, couples of methods have to be properly utilized, in this case, these approaches usually include questionnaire, observation and interviews. This essay will briefly explore the revised primary curriculum, the Montessori Method and finally discuss the suitability of the Montessori Method in teaching the new curriculum. The revised Primary School Curriculum (1999) developed as a result of input from the Review Body on the Primary Curriculum (1990), the National Convention on Education (1994) and the White Paper on Education (1994). It considers the Philosophical ethos of Curriculum Na Bunscoile and is guided by the Education Act (1998). Working in a Montessori classroom that promotes choice, demands one to move constantly, particularly when choosing what or who to work with (p21). Montessori curriculum can be broken down into the following headings. Each has a selection of graded exercises which are presented to the child in sequence when they are ready: Practical life exercises, Sensorial Number work Language In John Holt's very interesting book "How Children Fail" (1966 ) he poses the concept that although children love learning they don't like being thought. He argues children thought in traditional ways become "unintelligent" (p56). They strive for teacher approval by focusing importance on getting the right answer; mechanisms such as reflecting and having an enquiring mind are supressed. Holts (1966) suggests children had to "teach him before he could begin to teach them" (p.22), he emphasises the importance of teachers observing, listening, and encouraging creative ways of being. This philosophy sits very comfortably with the Montessori Method of teaching. As mentioned earlier directors must be a "guide" observing children in their work. The new Primary School Curriculum calls for this approach in that it promotes the development of children's capacity for "creative expression and response" ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Out of all the girls, only one 8 year old failed to wait for the second marshmallow, lasting only 46 seconds. Out of the boys, 4 of them did not wait (ages 5, 3, 7, and 6). The boys who didn't wait had times of 0:24, 2:46, 6:08, and 0:20. Most of the children looked around the room or turned away from the marshmallow, but eventually looked back at it. One child (age 3) sang songs to distract her. Many of the children tried to start up conversations and a 7 year old boy started sliding the paper plate across the desk. However, most of the girls just sat at the desk looking around the room, while the boys fidgeted in the chair or fiddled with their hands. One 3 year old sucked on his fingers, but only for 2 minutes and 46 seconds before he ate the marshmallow (age 3). One interesting result was that one boy (age 6) only waited for 20 seconds, but his brother (age 4) waited the entire time, which contradicts that self–control improves with ... The scientific method is a procedure used to search for explanations of nature. The scientific method consists of making observations, formulating hypotheses, designing and carrying out experiments, and repeating this cycle. Observations can be either quantitative or qualitative. Quantitative observations are measurements consisting of both numbers and units, such as the observation that ice melts at . In contrast, qualitative observations are observations that do not rely on numbers or units, such as the observation that water is clear. A hypothesis is a tentative explanation of the observations. Compounds are formed when atoms of more than one element combine; a given compound always has the same relative number and kind of atoms. Scientists later discovered isotopes, which showed that the second postulate was not entirely true. Consider two different compounds of carbon and oxygen: carbon dioxide, , and carbon monoxide, . The number of oxygen atoms per carbon atom in is double the number of oxygen atoms per carbon atom in . So we can predict that the mass of oxygen per gram of carbon in is double the mass of oxygen per gram of carbon in . And, in fact, if other carbon–oxygen compounds existed, we could predict small, whole–number ratios for the masses of oxygen per gram of carbon in all of them. Advantage Of Direct Method I realized that students must be taught things that they cannot learn on their own at home and that are the hardest for them, they must learn to speak, and to achieve this goal I think the Direct Method is the best for several reasons. The Direct Method gets a great response among the beginners who start to speak a foreign language from the very beginning. Intermediate and advanced students like the method as well; they appreciate primarily the fact that the DM method helps them transform "theory into practice". To them, the pace of the lesson is very important since it enables them to repeat things as well as learn a lot of new words and phrases. There are various situations that can not be dramatized or acted out. Especially with intermediate and advanced language material, dramatization in various cases becomes impossible, and wastes a lot of time because some teachers are excessively rigorous in applying the Direct Method and eliminate the native language completely. This can result in non–learning or very little learning. The student's dissatisfaction in the long run causes and invalidates the classroom situation. In spite of these objections, the Direct Method has still been used and defended rigorously by various teachers in different parts of the world. It is true that the Direct Method is superior to the grammar translation method in many ways. It has brought in to language teaching a clear purpose, and more important, a technique both of which have been tremendous importance and benefit. We are not now at that point to reject the Direct Method as a hole, and it is not wise to ignore the advantages which it has introduced. It is superior to several of the older methods because it has emphasized the importance of language contact, and it is not only by the Direct Methodists that the idea of learning a foreign language for communication has been put forward." In the article Using the Scientific Method to Guide Learning: An Integrated Approach to Early Childhood Curriculum, by Gerde, Schachter, and Wasik, they focus on weaving the steps of the scientific method into all aspects of learning from English Language Arts to Math. Gerde, Schachter, and Wasik contend that, incorporating the scientific method into the already existing framework of the early childhood classroom, it will lead to a better understanding of science concepts later on. The article also gives specific examples of how to combine a child's natural curiosity about a topic such as worms, into several Literacy and Math lessons. These lessons naturally allow for the incorporation of the scientific method which includes the following steps: 1. Observation 2. Asking questions 3. Generating hypotheses and predictions 4. Ragin describes several aspects of the comparative research process. He describes in detail the strategies a comparative researcher can employ and the differences and similarities of these strategies. He notes that the comparative approach is primarily of a qualitative nature and is by its very nature different from quantitative scientific methodology based upon statistical inference. During the course of this report, Ragin's "The Comparative Method" will be described by its major points and descriptions of comparative research. Several weaknesses will be identified and described. And finally, this report will seek to discuss how these weaknesses can be overcome or mitigated. Description of "The Comparative Method". This book describes several components of comparative research and some factors which influences this type of research. The author first explains the Distinctiveness of Comparative social Science. He notes that the comparative method is typically used to refer to the comparison of large macro– social units. He states that he goals of comparative and non–comparative work are identical; to explain social phenomena by establishing controls over the conditions and causes of variation. Even though the underlying goals of both types of research may be the same, there is a wide gulf between qualitative and quantitative work. Regan describes this gulf as being: 1) wider in ... While some steps are more complicated than others, there are only six to memorize. The first to find a question that people don't know the answer to, and go from there. Step two is to form a hypothesis as to what the answer will be. Afterwards, it is a smart decision to research the question being answered to help understand it more. Experimentation is the next step in the process, and is more hands on than the others. The second to last step is to collect data and information from the experiment that was just completed. For example, my null hypothesis would state that there is no relationship between how much free time a child has and how much legal trouble they get into. For example, prohibitions against fabricating, falsifying, or misrepresenting research data promote the truth and avoid error. Second, since research often involves a great deal of cooperation and coordination among many different people in different disciplines and institutions, ethical standards promote the values that are essential to collaborative work, such as trust, accountability, mutual respect, and fairness. For example, many ethical norms in research, such as guidelines for authorship, copyright and patenting policies, data sharing policies, and confidentiality rules in peer review, are designed to protect intellectual property interests while encouraging collaboration. With the sump pump installed, we waited for severe rainstorms to hit before observing the results. After one light storm, there was no flooding. But after a second, more severe storm, the floor continued to take on water, which led us to the Conclusion that either the flooding was not due to the rising water table, or the sump pump was ineffective at stopping the rising water table. At that point we decided to observe the flow of water outside during the next big storm. When it finally hit, we went outside and observed a significant amount of water flowing straight down the wall just outside the walkway, from the top of the walkway under the deck. Once again, the walkway floor took on water. We revised our Hypothesis to state that the basement walkway was flooding due to water flowing directly down the exterior wall, underground, where it entered gaps in the wall to the walkway. Our solution to test the Hypothesis was to install a gutter under the deck, under the flashing which separated the walkway roof to the walkway exterior wall. This would catch rain water and funnel it away from the wall, therefore preventing water from flowing directly down the wall where it could enter the walkway ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The sociologist is interested in understanding the self, other, and social environment, questioning and searching for an interpretation of the common, everyday, and taken for granted. In order to do this, the sociologist needs to apply some form of research and method, however the most successful direction for doing so has been long disputed. Although sociological method has been subject to many different styles and approaches, being constantly updated with new ideas and concepts, this essay will argue that in order to best reflect upon and develop an understanding of today's world, the researcher needs to use and apply both qualitative and quantitative methods. To make this argument clear, this essay will first go into the understanding of sociological methods through epistemological and ontological views. Then this essay will explore the debate of quantitative or qualitative methods, and then argue for a mixed methods approach. Finally, this essay will utilise an existing research paper and evaluate one of the many ways to inter–relating quantitative and qualitative method, being the concurrent triangulation design. In conclusion, this essay will prove that through the utilisation of both quantitative and qualitative method, the sociologist has the ability to open "a free space for innovation and creativity" (Martin, Gutman & Hutton, 1988, p.163), in which both methods are able to strengthen each other and further support the interpretation of the phenomena at hand. In the stem cell research they claim that they can have specialized cells (embryotic cells), to help produce more cells that able to cure other diseases. Methods And Methods Of Qualitative Research Method Approach Qualitative research is normally recognizable via the use of methods that include, in–depth interviews and group moderation techniques; a particular objective to answer is "why?" and "how?" (Bailey, 2014). One of the great benefits of the qualitative research method is that it offers a wide range of approaches that can be used to capture data. In order to ensure credibility, two approaches will be used to conduct this research. The ethnographic approach will be used to understand the organization as a whole and the norms and behaviors, both verbal and non–verbal, which make up the organization's identity. Individual and group observation of each participant will be conducted over a period of three to six months in order to gain full understanding. Data will also be gathered through informal interviews such as general conversation and storytelling with the participants. Informal interviews can be beneficial as they allow the researcher to review key data elements which often may be missed during general observation (Merrigan & Huston, 2009). The second approach will be to apply a form of action research, which is the notion of inquiring into, or investigating something in a systematic manner (Merriam & Tisdell, 2015). Often used in organizational settings, action research is designed to evaluate practices in order to bring social change. This approach will be implemented through a one on one structured interview where the researcher will reference a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This system is called the Scientific Method, and without it, mankind would not be as advanced as it is today. The first, and probably the most important part in the Scientific Method is observing and stating a problem. For example, one might wonder why the sky is blue during the day, and black during the night. Since our curiosity might get the better of us, we would wonder why the sky changes color, and try to find out. Next, we would form a hypothesis, or in layman's terms and educated guess, as to why the sky changes color. For example, we might observe that the sky changes color when the earth makes its daily rotation. Then, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Quantitative Research Method . Choice of Research Method: Quantitative, Qualitative or Mixed? Research methods are procedures for research that informs not only the techniques chosen for the data collection, but also informs the selection of data analysis techniques in order to deal with research questions or hypotheses. It can be distinguished as three types: quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods. Qualitative research is a method of investigation for exploring and in–depth understanding the behaviour and process within individuals or groups and the cause of those of behaviour and process. Qualitative data is typically collected directly from the people in which data analysis is built based on an impression from particulars to general themes. Hence, researcher make interpretations of the meaning of the data with some influences from personal background, subjectivity and experiences. In contrast, a quantitative research method is based on previously defined epistemological stance based on empiricism knowledge creation. Thus, it investigates to test the hypothesis and theories by examining the relationship among variables and measurement the analytical outcomes of variables. In between qualitative and quantitative methods, mixed methods research combines qualitative and quantitative methods, techniques or data (Rao and Woolcock, 2004; Creswell, 2009).The research methods should be designed based on research questions and issues being addressed, epistemological assumptions of study and specific techniques of ... • 33. The Montessori Method : Maria Montesori Method The primary document I choose is the "The Montessori Method" that Maria Montessori wrote in 1909, later translated into English in 1912. Maria Montessori, an physician with her focus in psychiatry, eventually developing an interest in education. Maria used her medical background to observe children scientifically, learning which teaching methods works best for young child. In 1907, Maria opened the first Montessori school, where she implemented her observations into practical teaching methods. Montessori's work is revolutionary in the field of education of young children. Maria's book, lays out her study of methods in an educational program for children ages 3 to 6. Giving much consideration to how a child learns, through training of a child's senses, allowing for constructive and imaginative play. Montessori's method is the first to combine the liberty of the student, along with formal sensory training, motor skills and metal capabilities into a practical system for "normal" or regular educated students. Montessori's method is to take out the need for perfection within the classroom, to promote the liberation of the student, allowing the child's right to be active, achieve a higher level of learning through experiment, investigation and study. Maria's method changes the teachers propose within the classroom, the teacher is to only nourish and encourage students learning, through observing, gentle guidance without restricting or interfering with the student's natural ... Question 2 Part (c) Report on the unique characteristic of qualitative and quantitative research strategy Quantitative and qualitative researches are based on different paradigms. Qualitative research strategy focuses mainly on words, human behaviour in the cultural context, attitudes and life experiences rather than numerical data (IPA Research Strategy. 2010). It focuses on collecting information to confirm how the variables interrelate. It is subjective and always relies on the interpretation of the situation of the individual undertaking the study. As for the quantitative it put emphasis on specific standard or numerical data and applies different kind of statistical analysis. The researcher always stays independent, apart and uses random sampling to prevent personal prejudices to misrepresent the results which can easily be generalized

There are two mainly different ways of research. First, there is the basic research that appears not to go into the study field and the second, way is the applied research that studies given area into the aspect. It applies to resolve, understand and advance the methods and systems that are used in the search for human understanding of abnormal matters to do with the society. These methods are also applied in mathematical sciences like Chemistry and Physics but the experimentation here is limited. The results from this type of research methods are convinced through statistics, graphs and tabulations. Although, quantitative research methods have the limitation that they tend to neglect and ignore the non–measurable actors, which may be of great consequence to the hypothetical relationships. Although this limitation is overcome by applying the qualitative research techniques in explaining the quantitative accounts that are accumulated from quantitative methods. This mode of using the two types of research techniques is referred as the Mixed–Research Technique. (Becker 1994, 53–71) The distinctions between qualitative and quantitative research methods; The term qualitative applies to the fact that the data collected is non–numerical, while quantitative means that the data collected can be quantified into numbers or numerals. An example of a qualitative research method is one that relates the environment of individuals and the character that they develop over time. The data collected from this research will be convinced in terms of answers where one may hypothesize that, children who are brought up in slums grow up to become deviant adults. • 37. Using Mixed Methods For A Mixed Method Design Mixed methods are a combination of both qualitative and quantitative data. According to Sherperis, most researchers define themselves as either a qualitative or a quantitative researcher (Sherperis, C. J., Young, J. S., & Daniels, M. H. (2010). Although it seems that combining the two would be a win–win situation for the researcher as both sides are considered, it is important that there is trustworthiness and that coding is done appropriately. Having said this, it is important that whatever research method is used, the method must be valid Laureate Education (Producer). (n.d.). Using a mixed methods design allows for research to be broader, vast, and have more depth (Sherperis et al., 2010). When conducting research, it has also been mentioned that Sherperis that although researches define themselves as one or the other (qualitative or quantitative) it is not necessary to do so. When performing a mixed–methods design, one must think about how they wish to go about this research. It is imperative to be informed so that there are no issues with validity of the research. Cresswell (1999) has suggested the following prior to partaking in research using mixed methods "1) Determine the order in which you will implement the qualitative and quantitative data of your study, 2) Determine the weight that will be given to the quantitative and qualitative data, 3) determine how the two types of data will be mixed/combined, and 4) determine the theory that will guide your design" ... • 38. The Scientific Method The scientific method, a long debated question to weather or not it accurately proves and aids in human knowledge or not. In order to have unquestionable and accurate findings, the scientific method is essential in guaranteeing accuracy. The scientific method includes imperative steps that help scientists prove whether or not a hypothesis is correct. To begin, the scientific method does indeed help scientists prove if their hypothesis is correct. Experimentation, one of the main steps in the scientific method helps scientists prove if their hypothesis is supported or not. Experimentation helps test the hypothesis and prove whether or not the hypothesis is correct. According to "The Scientific Method" scientists make predictions based off the ... • 39. Research Methods For A Research Method Research methods assignment LQXIH1 This assignment will be comparing and contrasting two journal article's, with a focus upon the research methods used. It will begin by summerising the main findings and key arguments of both articles. Followed by identifying the research methods used, whilst comparing and contrasting their strengths and limitations. It will then move onto looking at how the methodological limitations of each study may be overcome. To conclude this essay a reflection shall be carried out to identify lessons learnt from this process, which may be useful in carrying out future academic research. The first article by Weich et al, begins by looking at existing research within the field and finds that the evidence suggests that people from black and minority ethnic groups experience poorer mental health services in comparison to the rest of the UK population. Upon carrying out the research the study finds that family and friends play a central but challenging role in service users lives, both in helping them understanding what is going on as well as seeking help. This is also a primary reason for service users preferring intensive community based home treatment as apposed to admission into hospital. Furthermore, no evidence was found in relation to ethnic differences in admission, timing of seeking help leading up to a psychotic episode, the willingness to engage with home treatment services, cooperation with medical recommendations and service users ... • 40. Scientific Method Science is an objective method used explain the natural phenomena of the universe. The practice of a scientific method provides a detailed outline that contributes to expressing how to determine if a theory is scientific. A continual cycle that emphasizes the techniques of observations, questions, hypothesis, prediction, experiment, and conclusion. The complications that arise when applying the scientific method to all theories is that science is subject to change; therefore, it is hard to modify extensive ideas to a few simplified steps. A scientific explanation depends on existing experimental theories to validate or disprove present and future logical arguments. This is because previous observations support abstract methods that may not be testable and the continual change is dependent on specific predictions and discoveries. Many aspects of scientific knowledge are hypothetical ideas, however, they contribute the same level of importance compared to a logical fact. A scientific explanation is shaped from existing intelligence to develop future studies and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, when a new theory is published, the scientific method for the examination is accessible for others to review. Whichever you want to do, you have to do with one very easy method: the Scientific Method. The Scientific Method comes in seven easy steps– observing, asking questions, forming and testing a hypothesis, analyzing results, concluding your experiment, and telling others about it. The first step is observing. In science, this is when you are taking in what people and objects are doing, and wondering how to fix a flaw that is in their actions. You could never go on with your experiment without observing things in order to identify a problem. Also, observing is research for your For example, if I am asking how many ...
