Introduction
Although Gender Identity Disorder (GID) and homosexuality has been in the American Psychiatric Association's (APA) Diagnostic and Statistical
Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) for many years, I was personally unaware of the controversy that surrounded it. I realized that I needed to educate
myself in the issues and changes that have occurred in the DSM regarding GID and homosexuality over the years.

There is a consumer representative on the task force and the members of the task force are diverse in ethnic and racial groups and gender. There are
13 workgroups, and the workgroups focus on specific diagnostic areas (Narrow & Cohen–Kettenis, 2010). The taskforce and workgroups are
composed of 163 members, 39 of whom are from outside the United States. Thirty percent of the members are female, 18% are non–Caucasian, and
there is a diversity of disciplines represented. There is a DSM–5 Web site, www.dsm5.org, which contains Task Force meeting summaries, workgroup
progress summaries, the names of the members of the taskforces and workgroups and their disclosure information (Narrow & Cohen–Kettenis,
2010) . There has been a subworkgroup formed to work on the Gender Identity Disorder. Four topics were nominated by the group to discuss: general
issues, the differences and similarities between homosexuality and GID with regard to the DSM; and specific research literature of the criteria for GID
in adolescents and adults (Narrow & Cohen–Kettenis, 2010) . One of the first things that the subgroup did was distribute a short survey amongst
transgender organizations. The survey was designed to help the group learn what transgender organizations, not only in the United States and Europe
but also worldwide, were thinking about various hot topics in gender identity. They were interested in suggestions for possible reconstruction of the
diagnosis if it were to

The DSM-V: The Diagnoses For The Winchester Family
Relationships, especially primary ones like intimate partnerships or child/ parent relationships have a profound impact on a person's health physical as
well as mental. They can have positive affects or negative ones. (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). According to the DSM–V, the diagnoses for
the Winchester family consist of two primary and one secondary problem. After conducting the initial interview and reviewing the assessments, the
therapist has diagnosed the family with the following problems.
The first problem the Winchester family is experiencing deals with the intimate partnership between John and Mary. John and Mary are experiencing

Mental Health Illnesses Have A Genetic Contribution
Studies revolving around twin and family history have been proving to show that mental health illnesses have a genetic contribution. Mental health
professionals have long known that certain mental illnesses can run in families, due to the fact that most, the chance of obtaining schizophrenia or
bipolar disorder with no genetic factor is around one perfect, as to where if someone has a close relative with a certain disorder, such as a parent or
sibling, the risk factor jumps to around ten percent. The genetic force behind the abundance of mental illnesses is especially strong in identical twins
who have a risk factor of a little less than fifty percent.
Mental disorders are actually not about an individual gene, but about a multitude of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As of 2002, genes have appeared to influence the development of mental illnesses in three major ways: they may ultimately lead to causes that cause
disorders such as Alzheimer's or schizophrenia; they could possibly be responsible for the abnormalities in an individual's development before or after
birth; and lastly it can enhance a person's susceptibility to depression, multiple anxiety disorders, substance abuse problems, or personality disorders.
One technology achievement that has been contributed to the vast advances in the study of biological psychiatry in the last twenty years is high–speed
computing. The faster computers have enabled researchers to advance rough estimates of heritability of multiple disorders to being able to accurately
compute the quantifications of genetic effects. In multiple cases the data achieved by these supercomputers have led to significant studies of the
causes of specific disorders. For instance, in the 1960s and 1970s, schizophrenia was believed to be caused by the lack of affection toward a child by
their mother, however, it has been said that the heritability of the disorder may be as much as eighty percent and not actually from the cold hardness of
a mother. Another illness proved wrong is autism. Autism was blamed by faulty parenting, but is now known to be more than ninety percent heritable.

been applying variety of methods to software developing field. Up to this day, we are still trying to cross the river by feeling the stones. Where is the
solution? What is the best method? The fact is that at the professional workplace, both methods are implemented based on clients' needs and client's
requirements. I will examine the two methods, compare those two methods from variety of aspects. I will compare the methodology to professional
work experience and to seek improvements based on the articles I read and personal previous experience. Parallel comparison will be applied
throughout the text to provide readers a transparency and more unblemished theoretical understanding from the methodology based on experimental
trajectory. Waterfall and Agile Brief Introduction Waterfall method is one of the traditional software developing method that has been implementing
for decades. Usually, clients have requests, then software developers create an initial paln; after client approves the plan, developers follow through
the plan; at the end, developers test and finish the task. Upon clients' additional requests or tests, developers add up the extra features, but in most of
the case, it would be too late or too hard to change. The entire process is not very communicative or translucent since clients and developers generally
meet just once or twice throughout the project. In the article Why Making Software is so Difficult the author mentioned that software production is very

Mental Illness In Hamlet
42.5 million people are affected by mental health disorders in the United States. Hamlet is one of Shakespeare's most popular plays. In the
beginning of the play, Hamlet is depressed after hearing the news of his father passing away. Being depressed can lead to a health disorder
affecting your life. Hamlet's uncle had then promoted himself to claim the throne and had married Hamlet's mother, Gertrude. Hamlet was angry
that his mother had moved on so fast after the death of his father, also known as "the Ghost", throughout the rest of the play. Many events have
occurred in the book that have caused characters to be diagnosed with a mental health disorder based on their feelings or their own actions they
have taken. There are many disorders that people carry around their lives with them. Depression is a disorder in which a person is persistently in a
upset mood and loses all interest in activities that they had once enjoyed. According to statistics, over 300 million people have been diagnosed with
having depression. Bipolar depression is another common disorder. A person who has been diagnosed with depression has constant mood swings that
range from depression low to manic high. Statistics show that 5.7 million carry this disorder and that it can be a genetic based disorder. Another
disorder is Schizophrenia and it is not as common as other disorders, it can still occur. Some children have been diagnosed with Schizophrenia. This
disorder affects the thoughts, feelings and behaviors of a person. 3.2 million people around the world have been affected by this disorder and it can
be found to be a genetically based disorder but not only diagnosed with genetics. Hamlet carries the Schizophrenia disorder. Hamlet shows in the
beginning of the play that he has hallucinations and delusions. He states that he has seen the ghost version of his father which not only shows up in
front of him but talks to him and has a conversation as well. "Speak. I am bound to hear. / So art thou to revenge when thou shalt hear. / What? / I
am thy father's spirit, Doomed for a certain term to walk the night, And for the day confined to fast in fires, Till the fire crimes done in my days of
nature, Are burned and purged away."

The Diagnostic Criteria Of The Dsm V As A Guide
Case Study
1. What is your assessment? Be sure to include specifics as to why you are giving a particular diagnosis. You should use the new diagnostic criteria
of the DSM V as a guide. First of all, I would like to start saying that my assessment depends on the given information, and lacks the credibility that I
would like to have before diagnosing a patient. Considering the new diagnostic criteria of the DSM–V, John is suffering from schizoaffective disorder.
Schizoaffective Disorder is one of the Schizophrenia Spectrum Disorders that is characterized by schizophrenic symptoms' existence with a
co–occurring mood disorder. In order to diagnose a patient with schizoaffective disorder, the patient must have a two week period with psychotic
disorders, but he or she also must carry traces from a mood disorder. Speculated mood disorder could be depression or bipolar, effecting the
experienced symptoms. My assessment for John is Schizoaffective Disorder (Depressive Type) because I personally believe that he is illustrating both
depression and schizophrenia related symptoms. When we carefully look into John's case, the summary itself reports that he has been in good health
for the last five years except for a few episodes of depression, which was treated with tricyclic antidepressants and supportive psychotherapy. Therefore,
we already now that he has a history of depression. Although the summary doesn't indicate how long this treatment lasted, we can make few
assumptions

The DSM-V (TTM): A Psychological Analysis
The DSM– V (diagnostic standard manual of mental disorders) "is the standard order of mental issue utilized by psychological wellness experts as a
part of the United States and contains a posting of indicative criteria for each psychiatric issue perceived by the U.S. social insurance framework."
(American Psychiatry Association, 2014, About the DSM–V, para. 1). The DSM–5 is composed into three areas, with 20 sections that address
particular issue. The parts are masterminded in light of normal components among scatters. The DSM–5 shed the multi–hub framework utilized as a
part of the DSM–IV. "In DSM–IV–TR, trichotillomania (TTM) is classified as an impulse control disorder" (Willey–Liss, 2010, Trichotillomania (hair
pulling disorder), skin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The hair pulling or hair loss is not attributable to another medical condition (e.g., a dermatological condition). The hair pulling is not better explained
by the symptoms of another mental disorder (e.g., attempts to improve a perceived defect or flaw in appearance in body dimorphic disorder)." (The
BFRB Blog, 2014, Trichotillomania (Hair–Pulling Disorder), para. 2). The DSM recognizes that they hair pulling can occur from any part of the
body, it also acknowledges hair pulling from the pubic areas and elsewhere. It discusses how a few individuals pull for long sessions, while others
pull in a more scattered manner for the duration of the day. In that sense, it perceives the assorted qualities of the issue and that diverse individuals
pull in distinctive ways, which is essential in light of the fact that I realize that such a large number of individuals contrast themselves with different
pullers to decide how extreme their issue is or something of that sort. The pulling doesn't need to have a striking resemblance in everybody however
with the end goal it should be trichotillomania and with the end goal it should be impactful on your

Dsm-V. People With Generalized Anxiety Disorder
According to the DSM–v, people with Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) exhibits excessive anxiety and worry that could be explained as
apprehensive expectation, which occurs more days than not for at least 6 months. Their worry occurs under different settings especially in the
performance of certain activities such as school, work, and other social events. They always anticipate an uncertain disaster which elevates their fear
and provokes anxiety. Comer, (2015). Explains that, individuals with GAD suffer both emotional distress and physical distortions. According to
DSM–V, for diagnoses of generalized anxiety to occur, the person shall meet these criteria; excessive anxiety and worry, occurring more days than not

Patient with GAD mainly talk to themselves when they are worrying and less likely to engage in imagery both at rest and during the worrying
episode (Borkovec & Inz, 1990; Freeston, Dugas, & Ladouceur, 1996; Rapee,1993). ( Borkovec, Alkaine, & Behar, 2004) have suggested that, a
verbal– linguistic kind of thinking about upcoming problems serves to avoid the negative affect associated with the threat. This occurs in the process
of creating images of potential danger which elicit more substantial negative affect and autonomic activity. Furthermore, GAD patients lack the
experience that the disaster or catastrophes they try to prevent from happening by thinking and worrying about would also not have occurred if they
had not worried about it, indicating that they are trapped and more or less remain to live in a "world of illusion" (Borkovec, 2002), which means they
spend time thinking about things in their own mind without consideration of other possibilities because they are convinced that negative events are
prevented by worrying about them and pay little or no attention to the real life because there is a persistent anticipation of an uncertain danger ahead.
Many people worry from time to time and more often than not about issues that are comparable to the themes of what GAD patients worry about. The

DSM-V: The Only Categorical Approach To Our Classification...
I wholeheartedly agree with Helzer, Kraemer, and Krueger (2006) that the integration of both categorical and dimensional approaches to our
classification system is imperative. Both categorical and dimensional approaches have strengths and weaknesses, but when combined these weaknesses
can counterbalance each other to create a stronger overall classification system. The current categorical approach of the DSM–V is a much more black
and white perspective of diagnosis. In other words, a person is either healthy or disordered; a person either meets for the diagnostic criteria or he does
not. With a cutoff or threshold for diagnosis, it is much easier to decide who receives treatment, as well as for insurance companies to understand who
deserves... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The categorical approach for the DSM can also trivialize small but potentially significant differences between patients. This is especially true in
reference to the thresholds within the diagnostic criteria of the DSM. For example, a client that is just below threshold for a diagnosis may be in
serious need for treatment, but without the diagnosis the client would potentially be at a loss for such services. What is really different between a
client who has been suffering symptoms of depression for thirteen days and a client how has been suffering for fourteen days? Is the difference of a
day actually significant? No; it is an arbitrary cutoff, with little supportive research, which can greatly affect a person's life (i.e. whether or not they
can afford to receive help for their problem). Although a cutoff is necessary so that psychologists do not over diagnose, the current classification
system provides too much of an opportunity for type II errors (i.e. false negatives). For psychological treatment, type II errors are considerably worse
as you are not providing treatment to a person that truly needs

Analysis Of The DSM 5
One of the most debated proposals for the DSM 5 was a proposal to re–structure the DSM into five clusters of mental disorders that shared certain
external validating factors. While this proposal was not entirely adopted in the actual DSM 5, many concepts and ideas from this proposed idea were
used. The idea behind this metastructure originated from advances in the field of psychiatry since the DSM IV that demonstrated that many disorders
share external validating factors such as genetic risk factors, rates of co–morbidity, and likely course (Andrews, Goldberg, Krueger, Carpenter, Hyman,
Sachdev, & Pine, 2009). These ideas were backed up by twin studies that showed how important genetic and environmental risk factors are and raised
concerns... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, despite these important advantages of having a five–cluster metastructure, there were many problems with this proposal mostly due to
insufficient research. The proposed clusters were not based on systematic reviews, metaanalyses, or statistical approaches. They were merely based
on informed expert opinion and selective literature references (Jabalensky, 2009). The reason there were problems with sufficient research is
because it would have been impossible to complete a systematic review for each disorder. Research in etiology and pathophysiology is not advanced
enough to allocate disorders into certain categories. To fully understand the implications of the proposed clusters would require comparisons between
disorders that share the same cluster as well as comparisons in different clusters. It would also require research into disorders that fall in between
disorders, such as bipolar disorder, that was argued by different experts to be in both thepsychosis cluster and the emotional cluster (Andrews et al.,
2009). The ambiguity of these clusters is very apparent, as it is not easily definable what is even being "clustered" Most of these groups of disorders
are based on a single feature like neural substrate abnormalities for neurocognitive and information processing deficits for the psychosis cluster
(Jabelensky, 2009). These defining features for each cluster are far too broad

Energy Drinks And Athletic Performance
Introduction
Energy drinks, are beverages that contain large doses of sugar (up to a quarter cup per can), caffeine and other ingredients, like the stimulatory herb
Guarana and the amino acid Taurine. Dr. Erin Duchan, a pediatrician and co–author of a review of the current science about energy drinks for athletes,
published recently in The Physician and Sports Medicine, said "There's good evidence that caffeine is ergogenic (substance used for the purpose of
enhancing performance) " and "it can, in the right circumstances, improve athletic performance.' (Duchan, 2014)
The aim of this investigation is to see whether Mother energy drinks increase athletic performance. The hypothesis that will be tested is that 'If a person
consumes an energy drink they will run further in the beep test.'
The independent variable is the Energy drink and the dependent variable is the athletic performance – how long someone can run the beep test until
they can no longer run. In this investigation there are various factors that need to be kept constant in order to achieve the best results, these include the
environment – the place it is performed e.g. if one is performed on a tennis court the second one will need to be performed on a tennis court, the
weather conditions should be similar, the energy drink – type and amount, participants, time of day practical is performed and participants should wear
similar clothing in each test – same shoes (running shoes) and type of clothing,

Journey of Self–Discovery in Thomas Pynchons' The Crying of Lot 49
Thomas Pynchons' The Crying of Lot 49 challenges the readers' perception of the world by enfolding his readers, through a variety of means, within
the intricate workings of his narrative. It centers around would be heroine Oedipa Maas whose life is turned upside down when she discovers that
she has been made executor of the estate of old flame and entrepreneur Pierce Inverarity. When she is imposed upon to travel to the fictional city of
San Narcisco, where Inverarity is said to have numerous real estate holdings, in order to carry out her task, Oedipa stumbles upon a muted post horn; the

Like Pynchons' reader's, Oedipa is forced to either work toward interpreting the trail of seemingly indecipherable clues being tossed in her wake or
forgo it all and walk away in bewilderment. Like the reader by deciding to go on, however aimlessly, she is forcibly drawn out of the complacency
of her own existence; into a chaotic system of intrigue that reaches far beyond her normal scope of understanding. In the same turn, like Oedipa the
reader's role is also based on interpreting numerous symbols and metaphorical clues as a means of stumbling upon a legible conclusion that will stop
the madness. Each of them arriving at a different conclusion or none at all solely depended upon how far the use of our perceptions will allow us to
go. Unfortunately both Oedipa and the reader (myself included) are overwhelmed by the myriad of inconsistencies and masked innuendo saturating this
book from cover to cover. Unable to sufficiently distinguish between what is real and relevant and what is unreal and irrelevant, both are left feeling
disconcerted and paranoid; fearful that nothing they've ever perceived to be true, is...
Paranoia is the common bond that now unites Oedipa and the reader; but it isn't paranoia as described in the Webster's dictionary, instead it is an
aberration of their individual views which have been shifted and enhanced forcing them to see the world beyond that of their front porch; where before

Analysis Of ' V For Vendetta ' By James Mcteigue
It's a title with a strong letter used as somewhat like a alliteration to exaggerate the ideas within this film, 'V for Vendetta', directed by James McTeigue,
this defines what the true meaning of injustice which seems to be over exaggerated through action, sci–fi and thriller scenes. 'V for Vendetta' is a type
of film where in a future, where there was a British tyranny or corruption in the government, a shadowy freedom fighter plots to overthrow it with the
help of a young woman. This film shows the message of the best advice is to stop fighting it and embrace the fact that you have been given an
opportunity if you chose to view it with a different set of eyes. And yet there will be many who miss this opportunity as they feel a false sense of
security operating in the belief systems that harbor fear, anger and hate rather than letting go to face the very emotions that enslave them. This film uses
fancy quotes or catch phrases, with a strong act of violence in acting around the main character(s), especially the protagonist 'V' and to the eventuality,
'Evey' at the end of the story. Special effects and the fanatical costume visuals (with the famous Guy Fawkes mask) all is used intently to make the
audience with a tint of exhilarance, to make them think, what does this mean? What is the idea that V is trying to show in injustice? Through elements

Summary Of The Crying Of Lot 49
The mid and late 20th century is marked by the cultural movement known as postmodernism, which redefined philosophy and literature.
Postmodernism challenged the established modernist style of literature by deconstructing the notion of an objective reality and championing satire,
skepticism, and paranoia. The notion of self–determination and one's ability to control their own life is largely dependent on their ability to actualize
their identity: to find meaning in their life. But, any postmodernist would be skeptical of the idea that one can ever actually find true meaning in a
society filled with superficial and meaningless ideals. One of the preeminent works of postmodern literature, The Crying of Lot 49, attempts to explore
and critique this notion of self–determination as it relates to popular culture and society. Oedipa Maas, a suburban housewife, finds her life unraveling
before her as she discovers a world conspiracy by the underground organization The Trystero to dominate the mail carrier industry. As Oedipa finds
herself more and more isolated, she tries to find self–validation and meaning in her life. In The Crying of Lot 49, Thomas Pynchon critiques the notion
of self–determination by asserting that to truly find meaning in life ones must reject mainstream society. Through the use of satire and the instability of
his characters, Pynchon asserts the idea life is desiccated within the confines of a superficial consumerist society. In The Crying of Lot 49, the

Diagnostic And Statistical Manual ( Dsm V )
Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM–V), American Psychiatric Association (APA) (2013) and International Classification of Diseases (ICD
–10),
World Health Organization (WHO) (1995) are two similar systems (though not identical) which clinicians use to offer dependence diagnosing criteria
by objectively identifying substance misuse and mental health disorder. According to Cooper (2011) dual diagnosis, co–morbidity, co–existence or
co–occurring are terms used to identify the combination of substance use and mental health problems. (SOURCE) states that dual diagnosis,
co–morbidity, co–existence, co–occurring, mental ill health, mental distress and mental health disorder/problems are terminologies used
interchangeably. McHugh et al (2010) suggests that substance use is the taking of any illicit psychoactive substances or the improper use of any
prescribed or over the counter medications. Hawkings and Gilburt, (2004, p.10) argues that substance use is the consumption of drugs by an individual
into their bloodstream through injecting, swallowing or smoking, while similarly APA (2013) maintains that a substance use disorder occurs when the
use of one or more substances leads to a clinically significant impairment or distress. Mind (2013) maintains that mental health problems are likely to
affect the way individuals think, feel and behave. Similarly Townsend (2014) suggests that mental illness is the diagnosed clinically recognised

Similarities. While studying the layout and information within the DSM–5 and ICD–10, I found it difficult to identify similarities within the two.
However, the DSM–V and ICD–10, have characterized autism as having difficulty with social interactions, communication difficulties, repetitive
actions, and a developmental disorder. Additional information that is discussed within the two resources is that symptoms must be present in the early
developmental period.
Differences. There are many differences between the DSM–5 and ICD–10. For starters, the layout is completely different. Autism in the DSM–5 is
located within the category of Neurodevelopmental Disorders and titled Autism Spectrum Disorder. On the other hand, in the ICD–10 autism is labeled
as Pervasive development disorders.

Discriminant Validity Involves How Much Constructs...
Discriminant validity involves how much two constructs can be discriminated from each other, such as how much two diagnostic categories in DSM
can be discriminated from each other. While, convergent validity involves how much corresponce two diagnostic categories. A construct needs to have
both of these to have construct validity, which is how valid the inferences from the diagnostic tools are. This essay argues that there have not been
improvements in overall construct validity from DSM–IV to DSM–V. However, there have been improvements in discriminant validity in DSM–V
compared with DSM–IV.
DSM–IV contains poor discriminant validity, due to the huge symptom overlap from the categorical approach used (Vieta & Phillips, 2007). Regier et
al. (2013) stated that the DSM–IV strict categories have not been supported by research. Vieta and Phillips (2007) state that many patients do not fit
the categories, most patients do not reach a sufficient severity or duration to qualify for a diagnosis in that category, and lastly a patient may fit a
criteria for several conditions because there is so much symptom overlap.
DSM–IV manages the problems by allowing professionals to put patients into broad categories such as the Not Otherwise Specified categories to
allow for co–existence of various diagnoses in the same patient (Vieta & Phillips, 2007). However, there is still the problem of comorbidity, where a
patient has two disorders (Vieta & Phillips, 2007). In addition, the validity of

If you're looking for a definition of addiction, you're not going to find it here, in fact the
DSM V (the diagnostic manual used today by the vast majority of medical professionals),
excludes the very word from it entirely. The DSM V instead gives guidelines for behaviors that
we might consider addictive: loss of control, continuation despite adverse consequences and
obsession or preoccupation. If we are to label something as addictive, we must first take into
account these guidelines. Though some may seek sex in what seems to fit the guidelines for
addiction, the so called addiction to sex is often the result of a deeper cause simply blamed on
oversexuality.

Many religions today, such as Christianity, condemn masturbation and
polygamy, however, recent studies have revealed that masturbation is beneficial to one's health.
In fact there has been action taken to urge people to dismiss religious or moral beliefs and
promote orgasming, whether it be through sex or masturbation. The "Orgasm a Day" campaign
was launched in Britain to encourage teens to masturbate because of the health benefits it has.
Among these benefits are decreased incidence of depression, increased self esteem and better
regulation of sex hormones. Further studies have shown that frequent orgasms, whether from sex
or masturbation, have neuroprotective effects and may help with preventing Alzheimer's and
other neurodegenerative diseases.
Though the typical "Orgasm a Day" type of person may not see any detriment to their

Due on: 29/3/2012
1. What Challenges and opportunities do senior executives at DSM N.V. face in 2000?
In 2000, DSM senior executives were provoked with a dilemma to either continue on supporting the past business services that DSM used to offer – the
core petrochemicals business – or make an eventually courageous investment in the future via growing the life sciences and performance materials
businesses. Subsequently, when they decided to go for the latter and alter the company's portfolio through divestitures and acquisitions in food and
pharmaceutical sectors, DSM primary objective was to make the company concentrate on growth opportunities. In addition, ... Show more content on

Moreover, it will provide many opportunities for value creation and aggressive financial goals. Obviously, without the standardized ICT then DSM
would be left with outrageous IT cost and lousy performance at the same time.
2. What challenges and opportunities does newly–hired CIO Jo van den Hanenberg face when he assumes his position in 2000?
In 2000, DSM hired Jo van den Hanenberg as a company–wide acting Chief Information Officer (CIO), who was reporting to the chair of the Board of
Directors responsible for ICT. Immediately after his appointment, Hanenberg faced two objectives: a) Standardization of the ICT within DSM. b) Skills
construction for quickly integrating acquisitions and removing disinvestments from the DSM information and ICT provision.
Hanenberg used to work for Philips and witnessed acquisitions often going wrong because of the lack of governance from the parent company. So and
in order to achieve his objectives, he focused on three subjects: 1– Standardizing the ICT infrastructure worldwide and supporting the business by ICT:
Hanenberg started by reducing the number of suppliers. Their number went down from 107 suppliers to just six. These six suppliers were utilized to
serve e–mail and distributed ICT facilities, end user support, networks, developing and reengineering of the business processes, and operations of the
computer centres. 2–

The Role Of Role Portrayal And Facade Is Essential For...
Roles are played depending on the audience set before the actor, who must decide the characteristics they want to portray. These societal roles are
often manipulated in a manner by which the actor feels as though they have control towards an end goal they wish to achieve. However, the roles
are not always met in the way expected and the traits in the role an individual plays results in either personal destruction or salvation. In
Shakespeare's Henry IV, the importance of role portrayal and facades is essential for Prince Henry/Hal, King Henry and Falstaff because not only
does it set their images in the public perception, but it allows the reader to see a glimpse into the true mind of the character. Prince Hal has a reputation

The war is just about to take place and it is certain that many lives will be lost from the battle, but despite the prince's likely fear, he makes an offer
to his father where he suggest that he "will, to save the blood on either side, try fortune with [Henry Percy] in a single fight" (Shakespeare V.i.99–100).
He made the choice to challenge his foil to save the lives of many others, despite it putting his own life at a great risk. He spoke bravely to his
father before the battle in risking his own, and demonstrated great leadership. The moment where he chose to offer his own life for the sake of many
others proved Hal's willingness to be an honourable leader. However, despite all of Hal's efforts to be the best man possible, his father still perceives
him to be the reckless and unfit son who disappointed the family. Though he failed to impress his father, Hal did succeed in impressing many others
and set forth the premise for his future reign as King after his father, his role ultimately leading to his salvation in the eyes of others. Unlike Hal, King
Henry's role consist of three qualities that radiate kingship, the traits being composed, assertive and commanding. Despite these traits being essential to
kingship, they ultimately lead to the court turning against King Henry and planning a rebellion against him. When discussing news of war and
casualties in his throne room, Henry remains composed and finds the positive points in the situation rather the

Can Medication Cure Kleptomania?

Author Note
This paper was prepared for Psychology 101, Section 05, taught by Professor Cuellar.
Abstract
In recent years, law enforcement agencies and medical experts have expressed concern about the stagnant problem of kleptomania in the United States.
While most agree that Kleptomania, as an impulse control disorder, deserves deeper medical research and cohesive legal reassessment, consensus
weakens around how to treat the disorder fairly and successfully. The literature review examines one approach to treating Kleptomania: medication.
With no FDA–approved medication for Kleptomania, the research paper presents the effectiveness for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If untreated, it can often cause much emotional pain to the kleptomaniac and those around him as the disorder is often accompanied by problems with
emotional and behavioral self–control. As one of psychiatry's most poorly understood diagnoses, despite recognition in the literature for 200 years,
Kleptomania remains misjudged by the public and the law or goes undiagnosed and untreated despite causing notable distress and impaired functioning,
Kleptomaniacs often experience the humiliation of repeated arrests, which may lead to internal guilt, depression, mood instability, and an overall
congestion of anger. Although there is no FDA–approved medication and clinically proven cure for Kleptomania, certain psychologically and
psychiatrically driven treatments with medication may be able to help reduce or even end vicious cycles of compulsive stealing.
Literature Review In 2009, The National Association of Shoplifting Prevention reported that an estimated 1 in 11 people have committed shoplifting

Dsm V On Psychopathy Essay
DSM V on psychopathy DSM V or the fifth version of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, is a compilation of mental
disorders and their standard classifications made by and for mental health professionals. It consists of every psychiatric disorder and the criteria used
to diagnose these. This manual is acknowledged by the U.S. healthcare system. The fifth edition was published in 2013. DSM V covers at least twenty
psychiatric disorders, such as neurodevelopmental disorders, sleep–wake disorders, gender disorders, and personality disorders. Psychopathy is defined
as a personality disorder, which is the section of the DSM V that will be focused on. DSM V makes use of five criteria to diagnose each personality

While criteria B covers pathological personality trait domains and facets, always chosen from a list of five: disinhibition, detachment, antagonism,
psychoticism and negative affectivity. Each of these five can be accomplished through different characteristics depending on the disorder. Criteria C, D
and E are the same for each disorder. C being about the stability of the impairments, and D stating that they are not more normal under certain
conditions. And lastly E states that the impairments must not be affected by medical conditions or effects of substances. Psychopathy is closely related
to Antisocial Personality Disorder (APD). Not all people diagnosed with APD are also diagnosed psychopaths, but all psychopaths are diagnosed with
APD. As with every personality disorder five criteria must be met to be diagnosed with APD, following the ones previously mentioned. Impairments in
the functioning of one's personality is shown through trouble with interpersonal functioning, such as the lack of concern for others and a lack of guilt
when hurting another. Also the inability to have an intimate relationship due to frequently exploit, deceive and coerce others. Likewise one will

Controversy: Revision of the DSM-IV to DSM-V Essay
Criticisms of the DSM–5 Task Force This fifth revision of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders or DSM will be the standard
classification of mental disorders (Nauert, 2011). Mental health professionals and other health professionals will use this standard in their diagnoses
and researches. The American Psychiatric Association released a draft of proposed changes after a decade of review and revision by the
Association. Allen Frances, chairman and editor of DSM IV, and Robert Spitzer, editor of DSM III, expressed objections to the task force conducting
the revisions and the proposed revisions. Present chairman is David Kupfer and vice chairman is Darrel Regier (Nauert; Collier, 2010). The DSM–5...

The process should be undertaken by experts in evidence–based medicine who are truly and fully independent and capable of applying the standards of
scientific proof in all medical specialties. The committee needs to guarantee that it is using a truly unbiased and independent review process (Frances).
This should go beyond a scientific review and tackle a thorough risk–benefit analysis of all recommendations (Spitzer & Frances, 2010; Oldham, 2010).
This plan was expressed in the charge. That charge requires the ideal and broader experience in primary care, public policy, health economics, and
forensics. The composition of the current work group cannot comply with the requirements of the charge (Spitzer & Frances, Oldham). Method
and Timing The assessments appear limited to the evidence the group already produced (Spitzer & Frances, 2010). The comprehensiveness and
balance of the reviews have not been determined. The lack of a standard operating procedure in the literature process makes the reviews variable
in both quality and method (Spitzer & Frances). The review has been very late as it should have been completed a year earlier and not after the
field trials have started (Spitzer & Frances, 2010). Field testing on proposals can only be expensive because of limited scientific support. The entire
DSM 5 process is beyond the deadline by a year or more. This late schedule is likely to rush the

The Diagnostic Structure Of The Dsm V
Diagnostic Rational: Using the diagnostic structure of the DSM–V, Lecter displays characteristics of both Post–traumatic Stress Disorder with
dissociative symptoms and Anti–Social Personality Disorder. To understand this diagnosis further, we must first examine the psychological history and
symptoms throughout Lecter's life. Post–traumatic Stress Disorder is defined as a clinical syndrome characterized by intrusive memories, emotional
avoidance, and heightened psychological arousal following exposure to a traumatic event (APA). In the novel Hannibal Rising, Lecter witnessed and
engaged in the death and cannibalization of his sister, Mischa Lecter. Through this experience, Lecter is shown to frequently recall this event
throughout the narrative. For example, during Lecter's time in Florence, Italy, he experienced a traumatic nightmare regarding his involvement of
Mischa demise. This dream is peculiar within the story, as it is the only time where Lecter is described as being genuinely fearful for his life. In
addition to Lecter's traumatic memories of Mischa's demise, is his avoidance of certain stimuli. Specifically, during Lecter's time in Florence, he
attended the Atrocious Torture Instruments show to observe people and to study their mannerisms. It was at this event that Lecter unintentionally
discovers a skeleton in a starvation cage. Upon viewing this demonstration, Lecter instantaneously makes an exit. Through this reaction, it is reasonable
to assume that Hannibal

Bipolar I Disorder (BD): A Case Study
Introduction In the three papers I have submitted this semester on Bipolar I Disorder (BD), I have discussed etiology, subpopulations and
comorbidity, and current gaps in care. In this paper, I will continue to discuss these topics by outlining what kinds of epidemiological evidence are
still needed to improve care for children and adolescents with mental health disorders, identifying anxiety disorders as subpopulation that needs
further research, and giving three recommendations for how we should address gaps in care for those with Bipolar I Disorder. Epidemiological
Evidence Two kinds of evidence that still need to be researched to increase care effectiveness are the specific etiology of Bipolar I Disorder (BD), and
cultural competency.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My first recommendation is to increase state and federal funding for treatment of mental health disorders. In previous papers, I discussed this at
length and mentioned that while government services account for some financial responsibility, there needs to be more federal grants passed that
increase access to care for those with mental health disorders like BD. My second recommendation is related to the first and would be to increase
access to care in any way possible, whether it be financially or just increasing the number of community treatment facilities in a given area. If those
who need care are not seeking treatment or do not have access to treatment, then they could have worse lifelong outcomes. My third recommendations
is to see mental health and mental illnesses like BD as a lifetime course and will need constant care throughout the person's life. Medication and
psychotherapy will not cure BD, but it can help the person manage their symptoms. I know that I may not rely on medications forever, but I also know
that I will need lifelong treatment for my BD and that just like taking antibiotics–you can't just stop taking them when you feel better and expect to be

Ever since the dawn of clinical psychology, every effort has been made by those versed in its practice to understand, identify, and when possible, to help
to heal the pathological and dysfunctional processes that we now call mental disorders. Among the many different varieties of mental disorders that
clinical psychologists can now identify, there are perhaps none that are as mysterious in nature, or are as challenging to threat as those which are
designated as Personality Disorders. Such disorders are characterized by persistent and enduring patterns of internal, cognitive and emotional
experiences, and subsequent outward behaviors that differ significantly from those of other individuals within the surrounding culture (APA, 2013). As

William Shakespeare 's ' Julius Caesar, Hamlet, And Henry V
The Renaissance was a time in which mankind was rediscovering itself. For ages, men were simply trying to exist, survive more than anything else.
The Renaissance was a period in which men no longer had to just get by everyday, but could begin exploring morality. No other Renaissance author
characterizes this more than William Shakespeare in the early 1600s. His plays highlight the internal moral struggle that every man goes through, the
concept of what is right and what is wrong in a world that is full of gray areas. More specifically he deals with the concept of honor and morality in
several of his plays. Julius Caesar, Hamlet, and Henry V, to a lesser extent, deal with how men handle these and can reconcile otherwise heinous acts.
Now, being well aware that Shakespeare does not account for all the Renaissance writers, however his are the most prevalent still today and it can be
argued that Shakespeare did not work alone. For the sake of organization, it is far easier to tackle these literary works in chronological order and
analyze the individual pieces first and then view them all as one whole. Henry V
The earliest of Shakespeare's plays was Henry V written in 1599. As a whole the play is mostly just a retelling of the battle of Agincourt in the year
1415, featuring the now very famous, "St. Crispin's Day" speech. However Shakespeare manages to capture the intensity and pure chaos of war while
also having a solid undertone about the morality of men and sending a

Antisocial Personality Disorder ( Dsm V )
Brain Activity and Functionality in Relation to Psychopathic and Sociopathic Behaviours
When most people hear the word psychopath or sociopath, the first image that pops into their head likely resembles some crude image of a crazy–eyed
maniac, wielding an axe dripping with the blood of their victims. This popular idea, however, could not be farther from the truth. The Diagnostic and
Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders–V (DSM–V), released in 2013, places psychopathy, along with sociopathy, in the category of ego–syntonic1
personality disorders (Jenkins, 2014). The official term, encompassing both psychopathy and sociopathy, is Antisocial Personality Disorder; this
disorder is "characterized by a long–standing pattern of a disregard for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Scientists have established a pattern of differences between a healthy brain and that of a psychopath. A strong link between brain activity in certain
parts of the brain and Antisocial Personality Disorder has been made allowing the causes of psychopathy to be better understood and methods for
preventing Antisocial Personality Disorder to be developed.
The first theory on psychopathy was presented by Cleckley, an American psychiatrist, in the early 20th century. Cleckley believed that psychopathy
was an array of traits that were presented as a fragmented personality (Cleckley 1976. The Mask, para. 2). In other words, a psychopath would have
many small disorders that would cause him or her to act less human than the average person. Though broken is a harsh word to use when describing
people, Cleckley implies it. Cleckley's theory was eventually overturned. Cleckley was, however, on the right track. Cleckley saw the connection
between a lack of morals and psychopathic behaviours (Tillier, 2011). Cleckley's theory has helped well–respected psychologists, such as Hare to
better understand psychopathy for what it is currently understood as: a lack of conscience.
The terms psychopath and sociopath are almost interchangeable in most social circles. This is because the terms have been quite unclear and
intersecting until recently; in the first four editions of the the DSM, definitions of both terms

Questions For The DSM-V By Susan M. BГѓВ¶gels
The diagnosis of social phobia has seen substantial changes in the last 25 years, from its first appearance in the DSM–III published in 1980 to the
DSM–IV. In DSM–III, phobic disorders and anxiety states were regarded as two types of anxiety disorders, and social phobia was considered a phobic
disorder. What do you think of when you hear the words Social Anxiety? Is it a mental illness or is it just a phobia? While there are many feelings tied
with social anxiety, social anxiety is a mental illness that people go through in their lives. From personally struggling with this I have always
wanted to know what are the causes and how can I deal with this issue. I decided this would be a great topic to do my future research paper on.
While researching information I came across a source I believe will help me write my paper. I found this source by using the Tacoma Community

Symbolic Deconstruction in The Crying of Lot 49
The paths leading toward knowledge (of self, of others, of the world around us) are circuitous. Thomas Pynchon, in his novel The Crying of Lot 49,
seems to attempt to lead the reader down several of these paths simultaneously in order to illustrate this point. Our reliance on symbols as efficient
translators of complex notions is called into question. Beginning with the choice of symbolic or pseudo–symbolic name, Oedipa Maas, for the central
character of his novel, Pynchon expands his own investigation of symbol as Oedipa also attempts to unravel the mysteries surrounding the muted horn
of the Tristero.
In choosing names that conjure up other images/ideas ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As an intuitive literary/historical detective discovering the existence of Tristero and W.A.S.T.E., perhaps Oedipa attempts to solve her ownSphinx's
riddle. More important, however, is the mindset Pynchon is able to create in the reader by including such overt symbolic references.
Other names, perhaps with less symbolic significance, begin to take on added meaning. The precedent is set. It is possible then to find further
significance in Oedipa's last name, Maas. Of course this exercise can quickly degenerate into absurdity when the word itself can mean anything
from thickened sour milk, to a type of fish, to a farm cottage, to a vulgar form of the word master. It is as an aberrant form of the word mass,
however, that the name could acquire some symbolic content. As a lump of raw material ready for moulding, or a large quantity often with the
notion of oppressive or bewildering abundance, or used to refer to the generality of mankind, the name Maas begins to resonate in the actions and
attitudes of both Oedipa and Mucho Maas. It is possible that Pynchon encourages this symbolic discovery not to promote their thematic value to his
novel, but instead to force the reader to be aware of the power and paradox invested in creating symbols.
Symbols are culturally constructed artifacts which give an otherwise intangible concept form. We are constantly engaged (consciously or
unconsciously) in the act of

Chosen Development Framework For The Past Decade
Rajat Chadha CS 4960 November 20, 2014 Professor Sarraille Scrum Methodology Abstract: Scrum Methodology has been the chosen development
framework for the past decade. Created in 2001, Scrum has taken over as the development framework of choice by business and companies [7].
Scrums counterpart, the Waterfall Methodology has taken a back seat to Scrum. The traditional developmental framework used by companies and
businesses previously was The Waterfall Methodology. When Scrum got developed it created a better understanding of how to develop projects in
iterations rather than a linear waterfall style. Scrum is a developmental framework that is done in iterations and can be implemented on many different
projects. This paper will go more into depth about the Scrum Methodology, The Three Artifacts, The Three Roles, Scrum Ceremonies, and The
Waterfall Methodology. 1. Introduction/Background Scrum is a simple framework used to organize teams and get work done more productively with
higher quality [7]. Scrum provides a productive working environment in which it allows teams to choose the amount of work to be done and how to
best complete the work. The application of Scrum enforces a few simple rules that have the potential to make a team self–organized into process that
can achieve 5 to 10 times the productivity of a waterfall based process [5]. Scrum focuses on prioritizing work based on business value, improving the

Essay About Dsm V

  • 1. Essay about Dsm V The DSM–V and Gender Identity Disorder UVIC April 5, 2012 Table of Contents Introduction1–2 Diagnostic and Statistics Manual for Mental Disorders (DSM) 2–3 Problems with the Current Diagnostic Criteria for GID Support of Keeping the GID Diagnosis in DSM–V Therapists Role in Transgendered Issues Introduction Although Gender Identity Disorder (GID) and homosexuality has been in the American Psychiatric Association's (APA) Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) for many years, I was personally unaware of the controversy that surrounded it. I realized that I needed to educate myself in the issues and changes that have occurred in the DSM regarding GID and homosexuality over the years. The APA... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is a consumer representative on the task force and the members of the task force are diverse in ethnic and racial groups and gender. There are 13 workgroups, and the workgroups focus on specific diagnostic areas (Narrow & Cohen–Kettenis, 2010). The taskforce and workgroups are composed of 163 members, 39 of whom are from outside the United States. Thirty percent of the members are female, 18% are non–Caucasian, and there is a diversity of disciplines represented. There is a DSM–5 Web site, www.dsm5.org, which contains Task Force meeting summaries, workgroup progress summaries, the names of the members of the taskforces and workgroups and their disclosure information (Narrow & Cohen–Kettenis, 2010) . There has been a subworkgroup formed to work on the Gender Identity Disorder. Four topics were nominated by the group to discuss: general issues, the differences and similarities between homosexuality and GID with regard to the DSM; and specific research literature of the criteria for GID in adolescents and adults (Narrow & Cohen–Kettenis, 2010) . One of the first things that the subgroup did was distribute a short survey amongst transgender organizations. The survey was designed to help the group learn what transgender organizations, not only in the United States and Europe but also worldwide, were thinking about various hot topics in gender identity. They were interested in suggestions for possible reconstruction of the

The DSM-V: The Diagnoses For The Winchester Family Relationships, especially primary ones like intimate partnerships or child/ parent relationships have a profound impact on a person's health physical as well as mental. They can have positive affects or negative ones. (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). According to the DSM–V, the diagnoses for the Winchester family consist of two primary and one secondary problem. After conducting the initial interview and reviewing the assessments, the therapist has diagnosed the family with the following problems. The first problem the Winchester family is experiencing deals with the intimate partnership between John and Mary. John and Mary are experiencing DSM Code V61.10 (Z63.0)Relationship Distress With Spouse or Intimate Partner. "This category ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Mental Health Illnesses Have A Genetic Contribution Studies revolving around twin and family history have been proving to show that mental health illnesses have a genetic contribution. Mental health professionals have long known that certain mental illnesses can run in families, due to the fact that most, the chance of obtaining schizophrenia or bipolar disorder with no genetic factor is around one perfect, as to where if someone has a close relative with a certain disorder, such as a parent or sibling, the risk factor jumps to around ten percent. The genetic force behind the abundance of mental illnesses is especially strong in identical twins who have a risk factor of a little less than fifty percent. Mental disorders are actually not about an individual gene, but about a multitude of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As of 2002, genes have appeared to influence the development of mental illnesses in three major ways: they may ultimately lead to causes that cause disorders such as Alzheimer's or schizophrenia; they could possibly be responsible for the abnormalities in an individual's development before or after birth; and lastly it can enhance a person's susceptibility to depression, multiple anxiety disorders, substance abuse problems, or personality disorders. One technology achievement that has been contributed to the vast advances in the study of biological psychiatry in the last twenty years is high–speed computing. The faster computers have enabled researchers to advance rough estimates of heritability of multiple disorders to being able to accurately compute the quantifications of genetic effects. In multiple cases the data achieved by these supercomputers have led to significant studies of the causes of specific disorders. For instance, in the 1960s and 1970s, schizophrenia was believed to be caused by the lack of affection toward a child by their mother, however, it has been said that the heritability of the disorder may be as much as eighty percent and not actually from the cold hardness of a mother. Another illness proved wrong is autism. Autism was blamed by faulty parenting, but is now known to be more than ninety percent heritable. ("As ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Analysis Of Waterfall And Agile Brief Introduction been applying variety of methods to software developing field. Up to this day, we are still trying to cross the river by feeling the stones. Where is the solution? What is the best method? The fact is that at the professional workplace, both methods are implemented based on clients' needs and client's requirements. I will examine the two methods, compare those two methods from variety of aspects. I will compare the methodology to professional work experience and to seek improvements based on the articles I read and personal previous experience. Parallel comparison will be applied throughout the text to provide readers a transparency and more unblemished theoretical understanding from the methodology based on experimental trajectory. Waterfall and Agile Brief Introduction Waterfall method is one of the traditional software developing method that has been implementing for decades. Usually, clients have requests, then software developers create an initial paln; after client approves the plan, developers follow through the plan; at the end, developers test and finish the task. Upon clients' additional requests or tests, developers add up the extra features, but in most of the case, it would be too late or too hard to change. The entire process is not very communicative or translucent since clients and developers generally meet just once or twice throughout the project. In the article Why Making Software is so Difficult the author mentioned that software production is very ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Mental Illness In Hamlet 42.5 million people are affected by mental health disorders in the United States. Hamlet is one of Shakespeare's most popular plays. In the beginning of the play, Hamlet is depressed after hearing the news of his father passing away. Being depressed can lead to a health disorder affecting your life. Hamlet's uncle had then promoted himself to claim the throne and had married Hamlet's mother, Gertrude. Hamlet was angry that his mother had moved on so fast after the death of his father, also known as "the Ghost", throughout the rest of the play. Many events have occurred in the book that have caused characters to be diagnosed with a mental health disorder based on their feelings or their own actions they have taken. There are many disorders that people carry around their lives with them. Depression is a disorder in which a person is persistently in a upset mood and loses all interest in activities that they had once enjoyed. According to statistics, over 300 million people have been diagnosed with having depression. Bipolar depression is another common disorder. A person who has been diagnosed with depression has constant mood swings that range from depression low to manic high. Statistics show that 5.7 million carry this disorder and that it can be a genetic based disorder. Another disorder is Schizophrenia and it is not as common as other disorders, it can still occur. Some children have been diagnosed with Schizophrenia. This disorder affects the thoughts, feelings and behaviors of a person. 3.2 million people around the world have been affected by this disorder and it can be found to be a genetically based disorder but not only diagnosed with genetics. Hamlet carries the Schizophrenia disorder. Hamlet shows in the beginning of the play that he has hallucinations and delusions. He states that he has seen the ghost version of his father which not only shows up in front of him but talks to him and has a conversation as well. "Speak. I am bound to hear. / So art thou to revenge when thou shalt hear. / What? / I am thy father's spirit, Doomed for a certain term to walk the night, And for the day confined to fast in fires, Till the fire crimes done in my days of nature, Are burned and purged away." ... • 7. The Diagnostic Criteria Of The Dsm V As A Guide Case Study 1. What is your assessment? Be sure to include specifics as to why you are giving a particular diagnosis. You should use the new diagnostic criteria of the DSM V as a guide. First of all, I would like to start saying that my assessment depends on the given information, and lacks the credibility that I would like to have before diagnosing a patient. Considering the new diagnostic criteria of the DSM–V, John is suffering from schizoaffective disorder. Schizoaffective Disorder is one of the Schizophrenia Spectrum Disorders that is characterized by schizophrenic symptoms' existence with a co–occurring mood disorder. In order to diagnose a patient with schizoaffective disorder, the patient must have a two week period with psychotic disorders, but he or she also must carry traces from a mood disorder. Speculated mood disorder could be depression or bipolar, effecting the experienced symptoms. My assessment for John is Schizoaffective Disorder (Depressive Type) because I personally believe that he is illustrating both depression and schizophrenia related symptoms. When we carefully look into John's case, the summary itself reports that he has been in good health for the last five years except for a few episodes of depression, which was treated with tricyclic antidepressants and supportive psychotherapy. Therefore, we already now that he has a history of depression. Although the summary doesn't indicate how long this treatment lasted, we can make few assumptions ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The DSM-V (TTM): A Psychological Analysis The DSM– V (diagnostic standard manual of mental disorders) "is the standard order of mental issue utilized by psychological wellness experts as a part of the United States and contains a posting of indicative criteria for each psychiatric issue perceived by the U.S. social insurance framework." (American Psychiatry Association, 2014, About the DSM–V, para. 1). The DSM–5 is composed into three areas, with 20 sections that address particular issue. The parts are masterminded in light of normal components among scatters. The DSM–5 shed the multi–hub framework utilized as a part of the DSM–IV. "In DSM–IV–TR, trichotillomania (TTM) is classified as an impulse control disorder" (Willey–Liss, 2010, Trichotillomania (hair pulling disorder), skin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The hair pulling or hair loss is not attributable to another medical condition (e.g., a dermatological condition). The hair pulling is not better explained by the symptoms of another mental disorder (e.g., attempts to improve a perceived defect or flaw in appearance in body dimorphic disorder)." (The BFRB Blog, 2014, Trichotillomania (Hair–Pulling Disorder), para. 2). The DSM recognizes that they hair pulling can occur from any part of the body, it also acknowledges hair pulling from the pubic areas and elsewhere. It discusses how a few individuals pull for long sessions, while others pull in a more scattered manner for the duration of the day. In that sense, it perceives the assorted qualities of the issue and that diverse individuals pull in distinctive ways, which is essential in light of the fact that I realize that such a large number of individuals contrast themselves with different pullers to decide how extreme their issue is or something of that sort. The pulling doesn't need to have a striking resemblance in everybody however with the end goal it should be trichotillomania and with the end goal it should be impactful on your ... • 9. Dsm-V. People With Generalized Anxiety Disorder According to the DSM–v, people with Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) exhibits excessive anxiety and worry that could be explained as apprehensive expectation, which occurs more days than not for at least 6 months. Their worry occurs under different settings especially in the performance of certain activities such as school, work, and other social events. They always anticipate an uncertain disaster which elevates their fear and provokes anxiety. Comer, (2015). Explains that, individuals with GAD suffer both emotional distress and physical distortions. Patient with GAD mainly talk to themselves when they are worrying and less likely to engage in imagery both at rest and during the worrying episode (Borkovec & Inz, 1990; Freeston, Dugas, & Ladouceur, 1996; Rapee,1993). ( Borkovec, Alkaine, & Behar, 2004) have suggested that, a verbal– linguistic kind of thinking about upcoming problems serves to avoid the negative affect associated with the threat. This occurs in the process of creating images of potential danger which elicit more substantial negative affect and autonomic activity. Furthermore, GAD patients lack the experience that the disaster or catastrophes they try to prevent from happening by thinking and worrying about would also not have occurred if they had not worried about it, indicating that they are trapped and more or less remain to live in a "world of illusion" (Borkovec, 2002), which means they spend time thinking about things in their own mind without consideration of other possibilities because they are convinced that negative events are prevented by worrying about them and pay little or no attention to the real life because there is a persistent anticipation of an uncertain danger ahead. Many people worry from time to time and more often than not about issues that are comparable to the themes of what GAD patients worry about. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. DSM-V: The Only Categorical Approach To Our Classification... I wholeheartedly agree with Helzer, Kraemer, and Krueger (2006) that the integration of both categorical and dimensional approaches to our classification system is imperative. Both categorical and dimensional approaches have strengths and weaknesses, but when combined these weaknesses can counterbalance each other to create a stronger overall classification system. The current categorical approach of the DSM–V is a much more black and white perspective of diagnosis. In other words, a person is either healthy or disordered; a person either meets for the diagnostic criteria or he does not. With a cutoff or threshold for diagnosis, it is much easier to decide who receives treatment, as well as for insurance companies to understand who deserves... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The categorical approach for the DSM can also trivialize small but potentially significant differences between patients. This is especially true in reference to the thresholds within the diagnostic criteria of the DSM. For example, a client that is just below threshold for a diagnosis may be in serious need for treatment, but without the diagnosis the client would potentially be at a loss for such services. What is really different between a client who has been suffering symptoms of depression for thirteen days and a client how has been suffering for fourteen days? Is the difference of a day actually significant? No; it is an arbitrary cutoff, with little supportive research, which can greatly affect a person's life (i.e. whether or not they can afford to receive help for their problem). Although a cutoff is necessary so that psychologists do not over diagnose, the current classification system provides too much of an opportunity for type II errors (i.e. false negatives). For psychological treatment, type II errors are considerably worse as you are not providing treatment to a person that truly needs ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Analysis Of The DSM 5 One of the most debated proposals for the DSM 5 was a proposal to re–structure the DSM into five clusters of mental disorders that shared certain external validating factors. While this proposal was not entirely adopted in the actual DSM 5, many concepts and ideas from this proposed idea were used. The idea behind this metastructure originated from advances in the field of psychiatry since the DSM IV that demonstrated that many disorders share external validating factors such as genetic risk factors, rates of co–morbidity, and likely course (Andrews, Goldberg, Krueger, Carpenter, Hyman, Sachdev, & Pine, 2009). These ideas were backed up by twin studies that showed how important genetic and environmental risk factors are and raised concerns... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, despite these important advantages of having a five–cluster metastructure, there were many problems with this proposal mostly due to insufficient research. The proposed clusters were not based on systematic reviews, metaanalyses, or statistical approaches. They were merely based on informed expert opinion and selective literature references (Jabalensky, 2009). The reason there were problems with sufficient research is because it would have been impossible to complete a systematic review for each disorder. Research in etiology and pathophysiology is not advanced enough to allocate disorders into certain categories. To fully understand the implications of the proposed clusters would require comparisons between disorders that share the same cluster as well as comparisons in different clusters. It would also require research into disorders that fall in between disorders, such as bipolar disorder, that was argued by different experts to be in both thepsychosis cluster and the emotional cluster (Andrews et al., 2009). The ambiguity of these clusters is very apparent, as it is not easily definable what is even being "clustered" Most of these groups of disorders are based on a single feature like neural substrate abnormalities for neurocognitive and information processing deficits for the psychosis cluster (Jabelensky, 2009). These defining features for each cluster are far too broad ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Energy Drinks And Athletic Performance Introduction Energy drinks, are beverages that contain large doses of sugar (up to a quarter cup per can), caffeine and other ingredients, like the stimulatory herb Guarana and the amino acid Taurine. Dr. Erin Duchan, a pediatrician and co–author of a review of the current science about energy drinks for athletes, published recently in The Physician and Sports Medicine, said "There's good evidence that caffeine is ergogenic (substance used for the purpose of enhancing performance) " and "it can, in the right circumstances, improve athletic performance.' Journey of Self–Discovery in Thomas Pynchons' The Crying of Lot 49 Thomas Pynchons' The Crying of Lot 49 challenges the readers' perception of the world by enfolding his readers, through a variety of means, within the intricate workings of his narrative. It centers around would be heroine Oedipa Maas whose life is turned upside down when she discovers that she has been made executor of the estate of old flame and entrepreneur Pierce Inverarity. When she is imposed upon to travel to the fictional city of San Narcisco, where Inverarity is said to have numerous real estate holdings, in order to carry out her task, Oedipa stumbles upon a muted post horn; the first of many clues leading her deep into the impenetrable conspiracy ... Like the reader by deciding to go on, however aimlessly, she is forcibly drawn out of the complacency of her own existence; into a chaotic system of intrigue that reaches far beyond her normal scope of understanding. In the same turn, like Oedipa the reader's role is also based on interpreting numerous symbols and metaphorical clues as a means of stumbling upon a legible conclusion that will stop the madness. Each of them arriving at a different conclusion or none at all solely depended upon how far the use of our perceptions will allow us to go. Unfortunately both Oedipa and the reader (myself included) are overwhelmed by the myriad of inconsistencies and masked innuendo saturating this book from cover to cover. 'V for Vendetta' is a type of film where in a future, where there was a British tyranny or corruption in the government, a shadowy freedom fighter plots to overthrow it with the help of a young woman. This film shows the message of the best advice is to stop fighting it and embrace the fact that you have been given an opportunity if you chose to view it with a different set of eyes. And yet there will be many who miss this opportunity as they feel a false sense of security operating in the belief systems that harbor fear, anger and hate rather than letting go to face the very emotions that enslave them. This film uses fancy quotes or catch phrases, with a strong act of violence in acting around the main character(s), especially the protagonist 'V' and to the eventuality, 'Evey' at the end of the story. Special effects and the fanatical costume visuals (with the famous Guy Fawkes mask) all is used intently to make the audience with a tint of exhilarance, to make them think, what does this mean? • 16. Summary Of The Crying Of Lot 49 The mid and late 20th century is marked by the cultural movement known as postmodernism, which redefined philosophy and literature. Postmodernism challenged the established modernist style of literature by deconstructing the notion of an objective reality and championing satire, skepticism, and paranoia. The notion of self–determination and one's ability to control their own life is largely dependent on their ability to actualize their identity: to find meaning in their life. But, any postmodernist would be skeptical of the idea that one can ever actually find true meaning in a society filled with superficial and meaningless ideals. One of the preeminent works of postmodern literature, The Crying of Lot 49, attempts to explore and critique this notion of self–determination as it relates to popular culture and society. Oedipa Maas, a suburban housewife, finds her life unraveling before her as she discovers a world conspiracy by the underground organization The Trystero to dominate the mail carrier industry. As Oedipa finds herself more and more isolated, she tries to find self–validation and meaning in her life. In The Crying of Lot 49, Thomas Pynchon critiques the notion of self–determination by asserting that to truly find meaning in life ones must reject mainstream society. Through the use of satire and the instability of his characters, Pynchon asserts the idea life is desiccated within the confines of a superficial consumerist society. In The Crying of Lot 49, the ... • 22. Discriminant Validity Involves How Much Constructs... Discriminant validity involves how much two constructs can be discriminated from each other, such as how much two diagnostic categories in DSM can be discriminated from each other. While, convergent validity involves how much corresponce two diagnostic categories. A construct needs to have both of these to have construct validity, which is how valid the inferences from the diagnostic tools are. This essay argues that there have not been improvements in overall construct validity from DSM–IV to DSM–V. However, there have been improvements in discriminant validity in DSM–V compared with DSM–IV. DSM–IV contains poor discriminant validity, due to the huge symptom overlap from the categorical approach used (Vieta & Phillips, 2007). Regier et al. (2013) stated that the DSM–IV strict categories have not been supported by research. Vieta and Phillips (2007) state that many patients do not fit the categories, most patients do not reach a sufficient severity or duration to qualify for a diagnosis in that category, and lastly a patient may fit a criteria for several conditions because there is so much symptom overlap. DSM–IV manages the problems by allowing professionals to put patients into broad categories such as the Not Otherwise Specified categories to allow for co–existence of various diagnoses in the same patient (Vieta & Phillips, 2007). However, there is still the problem of comorbidity, where a patient has two disorders (Vieta & Phillips, 2007). In addition, the validity of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Diagnostic Structure Of The Dsm V Diagnostic Rational: Using the diagnostic structure of the DSM–V, Lecter displays characteristics of both Post–traumatic Stress Disorder with dissociative symptoms and Anti–Social Personality Disorder. To understand this diagnosis further, we must first examine the psychological history and symptoms throughout Lecter's life. Post–traumatic Stress Disorder is defined as a clinical syndrome characterized by intrusive memories, emotional avoidance, and heightened psychological arousal following exposure to a traumatic event (APA). In the novel Hannibal Rising, Lecter witnessed and engaged in the death and cannibalization of his sister, Mischa Lecter. Through this experience, Lecter is shown to frequently recall this event throughout the narrative. For example, during Lecter's time in Florence, Italy, he experienced a traumatic nightmare regarding his involvement of Mischa demise. This dream is peculiar within the story, as it is the only time where Lecter is described as being genuinely fearful for his life. In addition to Lecter's traumatic memories of Mischa's demise, is his avoidance of certain stimuli. Specifically, during Lecter's time in Florence, he attended the Atrocious Torture Instruments show to observe people and to study their mannerisms. For ages, men were simply trying to exist, survive more than anything else. The Renaissance was a period in which men no longer had to just get by everyday, but could begin exploring morality. No other Renaissance author characterizes this more than William Shakespeare in the early 1600s. His plays highlight the internal moral struggle that every man goes through, the concept of what is right and what is wrong in a world that is full of gray areas. More specifically he deals with the concept of honor and morality in several of his plays. Julius Caesar, Hamlet, and Henry V, to a lesser extent, deal with how men handle these and can reconcile otherwise heinous acts. Now, being well aware that Shakespeare does not account for all the Renaissance writers, however his are the most prevalent still today and it can be argued that Shakespeare did not work alone. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Scientists have established a pattern of differences between a healthy brain and that of a psychopath. A strong link between brain activity in certain parts of the brain and Antisocial Personality Disorder has been made allowing the causes of psychopathy to be better understood and methods for preventing Antisocial Personality Disorder to be developed. The first theory on psychopathy was presented by Cleckley, an American psychiatrist, in the early 20th century. Cleckley believed that psychopathy was an array of traits that were presented as a fragmented personality (Cleckley 1976. The Mask, para. 2). In other words, a psychopath would have many small disorders that would cause him or her to act less human than the average person. Though broken is a harsh word to use when describing people, Cleckley implies it. Cleckley's theory was eventually overturned. Cleckley was, however, on the right track. Cleckley saw the connection between a lack of morals and psychopathic behaviours (Tillier, 2011). Cleckley's theory has helped well–respected psychologists, such as Hare to better understand psychopathy for what it is currently understood as: a lack of conscience. The terms psychopath and sociopath are almost interchangeable in most social circles. This is because the terms have been quite unclear and intersecting until recently; in the first four editions of the the DSM, definitions of both terms ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Questions For The DSM-V By Susan M. BГѓВ¶gels The diagnosis of social phobia has seen substantial changes in the last 25 years, from its first appearance in the DSM–III published in 1980 to the DSM–IV. In DSM–III, phobic disorders and anxiety states were regarded as two types of anxiety disorders, and social phobia was considered a phobic disorder. What do you think of when you hear the words Social Anxiety? Is it a mental illness or is it just a phobia? While there are many feelings tied with social anxiety, social anxiety is a mental illness that people go through in their lives. From personally struggling with this I have always wanted to know what are the causes and how can I deal with this issue. I decided this would be a great topic to do my future research paper on. While researching information I came across a source I believe will help me write my paper. I found this source by using the Tacoma Community College library search. I then typed 'Social Anxiety Disorders'and found the article "Social Anxiety Disorder: Questions for the DSM–V. The article 'Social Anxiety Disorder: Questions for the DSM–V by Susan M. • 38. Symbolic Deconstruction in Thos Pynchon's The Crying of... Symbolic Deconstruction in The Crying of Lot 49 The paths leading toward knowledge (of self, of others, of the world around us) are circuitous. Thomas Pynchon, in his novel The Crying of Lot 49, seems to attempt to lead the reader down several of these paths simultaneously in order to illustrate this point. Our reliance on symbols as efficient translators of complex notions is called into question. Beginning with the choice of symbolic or pseudo–symbolic name, Oedipa Maas, for the central character of his novel, Pynchon expands his own investigation of symbol as Oedipa also attempts to unravel the mysteries surrounding the muted horn of the Tristero. In choosing names that conjure up other images/ideas ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As an intuitive literary/historical detective discovering the existence of Tristero and W.A.S.T.E., perhaps Oedipa attempts to solve her ownSphinx's riddle. More important, however, is the mindset Pynchon is able to create in the reader by including such overt symbolic references. Other names, perhaps with less symbolic significance, begin to take on added meaning. The precedent is set. It is possible then to find further significance in Oedipa's last name, Maas. Of course this exercise can quickly degenerate into absurdity when the word itself can mean anything from thickened sour milk, to a type of fish, to a farm cottage, to a vulgar form of the word master. It is as an aberrant form of the word mass, however, that the name could acquire some symbolic content. As a lump of raw material ready for moulding, or a large quantity often with the notion of oppressive or bewildering abundance, or used to refer to the generality of mankind, the name Maas begins to resonate in the actions and attitudes of both Oedipa and Mucho Maas. It is possible that Pynchon encourages this symbolic discovery not to promote their thematic value to his novel, but instead to force the reader to be aware of the power and paradox invested in creating symbols. Symbols are culturally constructed artifacts which give an otherwise intangible concept form. We are constantly engaged (consciously or unconsciously) in the act of ... The American Psychiatric Association 's Dsm V ( 2013 ) Introduction As the opioid epidemic takes hold throughout American's rural counties, public health departments are struggling to mitigate the health threats presented by substance abuse and addiction. While detailed longitudinal data is unavailable, many areas that report increased rates of drug abuse also report increased hospital admissions and accidental deaths. While the relationship between these outcomes is not explicit, it is important to implement interventions that address health issues related to drug related injuries. More specifically, Ohio's Scioto County reported 58 overdose deaths per 100,000 of the population (County Health Rankings, 2017). Ohio exceeds the national average in emergency room visits, with 891,000 admittances in 2013 alone (Ohio Governor's Office of Health Transformation, 2013). Longitudinal data explicitly capturing the relationship between drug abuse and hospitalizations is scant, thereby indicating a need for more effective data–keeping, as well as improved emergency responses for rural populations (Unick, Rosenblum, & Ciccarone, 2013; Rudd et al., 2016).
