2. Build Up to Revolution
- There were several events that helped bring about the
American Revolution.
- Some of these were the Boston Massacre, the Boston Tea
Party, and the idea of Taxation without representation.
3. Differences in Perspective
- When we have different perspectives, we may look at
one issue differently.
- In the case of the American Revolution there were two
different perspectives among colonists.
4. Two Perspectives
- Loyalists = people who were loyal to England. They would
say something like America needs to listen to England
and stop fighting.
- Patriots - supported the war and American
independence.
5. John Locke and Natural Rights
- John Locke was a famous philosopher who had many
ideas that America’s founders liked.
- One of his biggest ideas was Natural Rights. This was the
idea that of rights that all people are born with.
- Life
- Liberty
- Pursuit of Happiness
6. Watershed events
- We learned that Watershed Events are events that
change things so drastically, that things can not go back
to how they used to be.
- Perhaps the biggest watershed event leading into the
American Revolution were the battles of Lexington and
Concord.
- After these battles, there was no turning back.
7. The End
- As the American Revolution closed out, America became
an independent nation.
- The last battle of this war for independence was the
Battle of Yorktown.
